Cities are currently undergoing vast changes, which have very significant implications for the functioning of the housing market. In particular, it should be stated that the traditional residential market, in imitation of the smart city concept, is becoming increasingly smarter. This smartness can be expressed in four dimensions: the “automatic” rental housing market; innovative digital platforms in the traditional housing market; innovative policies and housing models; and the ability to forecast demand on the housing market, which together form the so-called smart housing concept. On this basis, this study attempted to assess empirically the smartness of the residential markets in Polish provincial capitals. Firstly, after a thorough analysis of digital housing portals, official websites of Polish provincial capitals and public statistics data, the smart housing concept was operationalised in all its dimensions by defining appropriate indicators measuring its level in a given city. Then, using the zero unitarization and entropy weight methods, followed by a no-pattern synthetic measure, a comprehensive smart housing index was obtained for each city investigated. Research results showed that there is a large degree of variation in the level of smartness of the housing markets in the examined cities. Furthermore, the analysis also indicates that the economic dimension of the smart city concept and the co-working concept are the main driving forces behind the development of smart residential markets. In addition, the study reveals that the implementation of the smart housing concept has a positive impact on the quality of life of city inhabitants.

Smart home is an emerging technology which is growing continuously now. It integrates many of the new technologies with the help of home networking for improving human’s quality and standard of living, so there are many projects which are researching in diverse technologies in order to apply them to the smart home system. As the technology evolves it comforts mankind with some additional ease and advancement. At the time the evolution calls upon all the daily routine devices to operate over internet and this project is based on the idea to make these devices accessible to the owner anytime anywhere. Particularly for now we intend to connect electrical appliances in any house to a kind of a local area network so that it can be operated by the respective authorities so as to minimize the electricity wastage. Further these devices along with sensors can be made to operate on their own, intelligently and accurately. The excellency of the project can be utilized in hostels and classrooms as well where most of the times we find electrical appliances operational even when not necessary. The idea is to turn a house into a smart house. The project utilizes the current technology such as wifi and low cost electronic modules to meet the requirements of IOT and gives it a web as well as an app interface for an ease of access. The technologies which we are using include - Wifi module, Relay module, Raspberry pi, Sensors for automatic support and feedback to user. The project can be extended to cloud also for data storage and providing access to authorized user.

The smart cities are considered to be an engine of economic and social growth. Most countries started to convert their existing cities into smart cities or construct new smart cities in order to improve the quality of life of their inhabitants. However, the problem that facing those countries while applying the concept of smart cities is the costs, especially for the residential sector. Despite the high initial and even operation costs for adopting different technologies in smart housing; the benefits could exceed those costs within the lifespan of the project. This article is shedding the light on the economics of smart housing. This study aims to evaluate the net present value (NPV) of a smart economic housing model to check the viability and feasibility of such projects. The calculation of the NPV based on Monte Carlo simulation provides an interesting methodological framework to evaluate the robustness of the results as well as providing a simple way to test for statistical significance of the results. This analysis helps to evaluate the potential profitability of smart housing solutions. The research ends up by proving the feasibility of this type of project.

Smart city is a major discussion in metropolitan planning and governance as it involves using technology to create livable spaces for the present and the future; it also considers issues of mobility, governance, economy and energy production. The innovation of smart city initiative can be beneficial to urban planning and policies for house provision. The housing challenge is a prominent issue in Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria with more than 20 million inhabitants. Despite the attempts by the Lagos state government to create low-cost housing for citizens living and working in the city, there are still enormously high housing deficits because of the city’s overpopulation and limited resources. The city still lacks adequate infrastructures for mobility, networking and affordable housing as some people come from other states to work in the state; this has increased the urban carbon emissions. Yet, emerging discourses on housing infrastructure have rarely engaged the smart city question in urban governance of Lagos. Although there is a plethora of literature interrogating urbanization processes and housing, there are feeble attempts at explaining the notion of the smart city as the panacea for infrastructural inadequacies and urban development. This research examines the concept of smart city and its implication for urban governance structures and affordable housing in Lagos, drawing information and data from interviews and relevant secondary sources. The relevance of this study is to the government, private sector and architectural community is formulating policies through the application of the smart city concept in a megacity in a developing country like Lagos.

This study investigates voter decision-making on two smart-growth components: land preservation and affordable housing. We seek to understand how voters make concurrent decisions about unpaired smart-growth components at the ballot box. Previous studies of smart growth, affordable housing, and environmental preservation have focused primarily on describing the attitudes and traits of voters on these policies, utilize aggregate voting outcomes, or are case studies of single towns in which there is a fairly homogenous group of residents either supporting or opposing the policy. We draw on a unique data set to investigate the different covariates of attitudes for environmental preservation and affordable housing: an exit poll of voters in the 2016 Rhode Island General Election on bond referendums for environmental preservation and affordable housing. We find that the coalition for smart growth that includes both land preservation and affordable housing is undermined by views of minorities and the poor as undeserving.

The AI smart housing market is expected to grow, but there is no study on the effect of the installation of AI smart housing on housing prices in terms of activation. It was attempted to demonstrate whether there is a housing price as a characteristic of a house through the hedonic model, which is most commonly used. The empirical data was used by combining the K-apt apartment management fee disclosure data and the apartment price and apartment characteristics data provided by Real Estate 114 Reps. According to the apartment management cost information provided by K-apt, 2,144 (12.15%) of 17,638 apartment complexes nationwide for which the AI Smart Housing maintenance fee is charged as an AI Smart Housing were installed. In the case of Seoul, an AI Smart Housing was installed in 213 (8.59%) of the total 2,479 apartment complexes. As a result of attaching price information to the management cost information, a total of 12,073 apartment transaction price data were used, and 1,598 pieces of AI Smart Housing installation complexes were used for the analysis. As a result of the empirical analysis, as in the general hedonic model, the house sale price per unit area was higher as the transaction level increased, the number of years elapsed, the total number of households, and the common management cost per household increased. In the case of common management fees, in the case of apartments that are recently supplied, the common management fees are high according to the trend of supplying various resident convenience facilities such as swimming pools and golf driving ranges in the complex, as well as large lobby spaces, and this can be seen as a result of this part being reflected in the house sale price. . In addition, the fact that the smaller the exclusive area is, the higher the price per unit area is due to the fact that the preference for small flats due to the downsizing of the household size, such as the increase in one- or two-person households, is reflected. Lastly, it was found that the apartment price per unit area was higher when the AI Smart Housing, the subject of this study's interest, was installed, compared to the case where the AI Smart Housing was not installed.

Graha Sudirman housing started its construction in 2012, Graha Sudirman itself is located in thecenter of Indramayu city. Graha Sudirman housing has implemented an internet network to support ITbasedsmart housing. In this case, it is still based on simple fiber optics. This network has limitations interms of QoS on the client side. One of the initiators of IT-based smart housing is the housing coordinator,namely Mr. Khaerul Anam. In this Community Service program, we try to apply FTTH technology inGraha Sudirman housing to support IT-based smart housing. This service is expected to assist partners inimplementing IT-based smart housing programs both in terms of infrastructure and applications. From theresults of the implementation, the fiber optic attenuation output in each house ranges from -13dB to -25dB,this is due to many factors ranging from the type of fiber cable to the splicing or installation process. Forspeed, from -13dB to -25dB, you can still get 902 Mbps of bandwidth. This speed will decrease if it exceeds-29dB and above, even for connections it can be lost.

Tiny Homes are an environmentally friendly housing option popping up across the United States. Tiny Homes have a minimal environmental footprint due to their small size and eco-friendly design. As such, Tiny Homes could address several of the Environmental Protection Agency’s city development goals. The Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) has created a Smart Growth program that provides financial assistance to cities seeking to implement greener practices throughout city planning. Tiny Home Eco communities could become a popular Smart Growth development plan. Unfortunately, cities have not welcomed Tiny Homes, and this alternative green housing scheme has remained undeveloped. This Comment is a proposal to expand the EPA’s Smart Growth program to include pre-planned Tiny Home Eco communities. Currently, prospective Tiny Home owners lack the freedom to choose this environmentally-friendly housing option. This proposal seeks to incentivize cities to reform zoning regulations by providing public transportation to those implementing the proposed communities.

The purpose of the study is to determine the criteria for segmentation of consumers of housing and communal services and build a model of their needs as a basis for the formation of marketing relationships for the management organization in order to increase the effectiveness of the introduction of smart technologies in the housing and communal services market. The introduction of smart technologies in the sphere of housing and communal services directly depends on the development of the relationship marketing as a technology for coordinating interests of all stakeholders in the market under consideration. In relation to the market of housing and communal services (HCS), the relationship marketing has been studied very little, which is due to the weak development of the categorical and methodological apparatus of the concept itself, as well as the complexity and multidimensionality of the subject-object structure of the housing and communal services market as an object of research. The housing and utilities market is a complex system that includes two clusters: the utility and housing segments which differ in service parameters, market types, and the composition of market entities. The article analyzes key barriers to the introduction of smart technologies in the market of housing and communal services. Besides, the segmentation of consumers is carried out; a model of the hierarchy of needs of consumers of housing and communal services is proposed; the relationship between the needs and the selection of specific smart technologies for managing an apartment building is revealed.

The recent increase in vessel shaftline bearing incidents indicates that a static shaft alignment design may not be suitable for all operational shaftline loading conditions. Hull deflections caused by vessel loading or propeller loads initiated by interaction with the wakefield have become important considerations in modern vessel design. Jack-up tests, typically used as a bearing load verification method, can only be accomplished under static shaft conditions and cannot verify the shaft dynamic behavior under running operational conditions. A newly developed sensor using strain gauge technology measures the bearing load and the shaft misalignment angle through the bearing housing's deformation-induced strain. It effectively converts the bearing housing into a weighing machine by mapping the bearing housing strain onto the bearing load. Unlike jack-up tests, this method allows for the continuous measurement of the bearing load and misalignment angle under all shaftline operational conditions. It is envisaged that this technologically simple system will allow for the earliest possible diagnosis of shaft alignment-related problems, such as bearing unloading, bearing overloading, or excessive shaft-bearing misalignment. This provides a much earlier warning indicator when compared with the bearing temperature alarm. The subject technology has been tested on intermediate bearings and is considered for future application into stern tube bearings. 1. Introduction In post-IMO's (International Maritime Organization) Energy Efficiency Design Index vessel designs, the propulsion shafting arrangements become increasingly sensitive to shaft alignment with lower tolerances and margins, increasing the risk of stern tube bearing failures (Leontopoulos 2016a). This change is due to the wider use of more efficient, larger diameter propellers with increased cantilevered load on the shafting system and shorter shaftlines as a result of maximizing cargo space and minimizing engine room length. Widespread application of the single stern tube bearing design (an arrangement without a forward stern tube bearing) has also highlighted a decreased tolerance to eccentric propeller thrust and propeller forces in general. Reduced tolerance to shaft alignment sighting errors, bearing offset inaccuracies and other shaft installation errors, also affects the integrity of the shafting system and can result in complete bearing wiping with the consequence of vessel propulsion immobilization. This undesirable consequence has increased, particularly during the years 2013–2017.

In Korea, the demand for new housing services is increasing due to changes in the demographic structure, but in terms of activation, affordable and universal housing services are lacking. Therefore, in this study, the necessity of revitalizing the AI smart housing market was confirmed in terms of housing service activation, and through AI smart market analysis, various market participants tried to analyze the market access patterns in two factors: price and function. In addition, it was intended to present a commercialization model including price, target market, and service provided for the activation of AI smart housing. As a result of the study, although there is a difference in the level of functions, various industries in the front and rear are forming the market in terms of the implementation of AI smart housing. As a result of quantifying the functions of 16 similar/competitive markets and alternative markets based on a total of 11 functional levels, it was found that the lowest two functional levels had a maximum functional level of 7.5. In the case of AI smart housing service and platform, it was analyzed that a functional level of about 6.5-8 would be implemented. In the case of the price range, it was found that the distribution method of subscription was determined in the range of 0.11 to 6.49 million won/month. In the case of distribution by purchase, simple products start at about 20 million won, but when implemented with smart home appliances, the price is formed up to about 20 million won. Finally, seven types of commercialization models were established by comprehensively summarizing the target market and characteristics of the target market, price level, platform function, and core customer value (service). It was classified into entry-level, entry-level youth, entry-level elderly, high-end type, 1-2-person household type, high-end type, 3-4-person household type or more, high-end senior type, and high-end type. In the case of the entry-level type, it can be considered for application in terms of housing welfare, which has recently been attracting attention.

Despite Smart Living houses potential benefits in providing occupants convenient independence and the care for well-being, their adoption in Malaysia remains infancy. Besides, it has been reputably more expansive than conventional houses. Intensive literature review managed to uncover one of the common reasons - unclear goal of urbanisation, which is a gap between policing and enforcing. This gap in practice is convinced to derive from the uncertainty within Smart Living development. For instant, the addition of Smart Living features onto the housing development master plan, respective phases and building elements. These additions do bring more barriers in a form of development cost components that were anticipated to subsequently increase the inflating gross development cost. From the construction economics point of view, these uncertainties are conventionally identified as ‘unintended consequences’. Furthermore, it is speculated to be closely relevant with the transaction cost components. Unlike the hard cost and soft cost components (from the whole development cost), transaction cost components are usually hidden and overlooked during cost planning and control. Hence, this paper is set to establish a primary list of anticipated transaction cost components for Malaysian Smart Living housing development. The research methodology adopted is PRISMA-compliant systematic literature review. The phases of development consistency will be aligned with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Plan of Works to review, analyse, and hypothesise the anticipated transaction cost components from preceding sustainable concept housing and building development. Toward the end, this list will shed lights on the relevant transaction cost components that are applicable within Smart Living development. In conclusion, the finding concludes that there are up to 40 anticipated transaction cost components summarised and distributed along the Smart Living housing development. With the clarity and transparency available, perhaps will promote a more aggressive Smart Living housing development growth in Malaysia.

Smart home designs have an essential role in enabling new urban co-living services for the rental housing market. These services are appealing for their flexibility, ease of access and comfort, but they impact the autonomy of the residents. By utilising a protection-appreciation space model we explore how bundled co-living contracts, community as a service, and smart spaces redefine the relationship between the tenants and housing service providers in the smart city. We discuss the compromises tenants have to accept for the comfortable housing service. Our results are based on a thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with residents in two co-living studio facilities in a major Nordic city. We conclude with a reflection on how the technologies used function to cushion the autonomy of the residents and identify policy development needs to respond to the new challenges presented by the application of smart home technologies in co-living.

The search for a pleasant home has concerned people ever since. Paradoxically, people are facing strong difficulties in finding a decent place to settle their lives in cities. As such, the housing market regained momentum in connection with the development of Smart Cities, where life quality of residents is strongly emphasized. Well-being in the metropolis is affected by a wide variety of factors with housing supply being among the most important, hence stirred by financing costs, construction costs, vacancy rate, sales delay, inflation rate, housing stock, price of agricultural land, and regulation. The present article reviews empirical studies on housing supply for a better understanding of the dynamics in this market, shedding some light on the expectable outcomes of policy actions in the promotion of sustainable housing towards the smart city transition. Our review shows that the long-run price elasticity of housing supply is larger than the short-run, as well as the existence of substantial differences in the price elasticity across countries and regions. As such, overall, the hypothesis of a perfectly elastic supply is rejected. In addition, our review highlights that housing supply is negatively related to financial costs, inflation, sales delay, and the existence of regulatory or physical constraints. Also, the elasticity is lower when there are regulatory constraints. Newfangled strategic interaction models, though overlooked in the literature, reinforce that housing does not fit the perfect competition frame. The review proves that we are in face of a non-competitive market in which policy intervention is required to maximize social welfare; policy packages to grant people access to the housing market may be required. However, policy interventions should be carefully designed and clear, to mitigate their potentially negative impact on the housing supply as adverse results may be harmful to the transition towards a smart city.

Also, much attention was paid to the use of innovative intellectual materials to improve environmental sustainability, economic efficiency and safety. New technologies and high-performance materials are being developed to meet these needs, offering creative and innovative solutions to long-standing problems that are especially negative for the environment. The study will discuss and analyze the integration of smart materials, technology and architecture, which promises to transform architectural thought so that we can hardly imagine it today.

The subject of the research is to study the impact of modern digital technologies on the organization and management of public utilities within the framework of the concept of “smart HCS”, which ensures optimization of municipal budgets, reducing the costs of homeowners for the maintenance of real estate, and, as a result, improving the quality of life of citizens. The purpose of the study is to identify promising areas of digitalization of the housing and communal services sector (hereinafter referred to as HCS), creating comfortable and safe living conditions for citizens using smart technologies adapted to the “smart city” concept. In the course of the study, the methods of scientific analysis were used, including methods of analogies for generalization and comparative analysis of the digitalization of such areas as the “smart” housing sector and the “smart” utility sector. The result of the study is to highlight the most promising areas of digital transformation of the public utilities sector and the positive effect that can be obtained for each participant in this business process. As a conclusion, it should be noted that the active implementation of the concept of “smart HCS” will help in solving such problems as increasing the readiness of management companies and resource supplying organizations to use digital technologies for high-quality provision of public services to the population, intensifying work on the formation of a unified information environment for control and supervision in the field of HCS through the further development of SIS HCS, etc.

Smart Buildings is a modern building that allows residents to have sustainable comfort with high efficiency of electricity usage. These objectives could be achieved by applying appropriate, capable optimization algorithms and techniques. This paper presents a Housing Development Building Management System (HDBMS) strategy inspired by Building Energy Management System (BEMS) concept that will integrate with smart buildings using Supply Side Management (SSM) and Demand Side Management (DSM) System. HDBMS is a Multi-Agent System (MAS) based decentralized decision making system proposed by various authors. MAS based HDBMS was created using JAVA on a IEEE FIPA compliant multi-agent platform named JADE. It allows agents to communicate, interact and negotiate with energy supply and demand of the smart buildings to provide the optimal energy usage and minimal electricity costs. This results in reducing the load of the power distribution system in smart buildings which simulation studies has shown the potential of proposed HDBMS strategy to provide the optimal solution for smart building energy management.

This study investigates factors that influence multifamily housing zoning from a hierarchical governance perspective. Local zoning is a product of interactive processes among various stakeholders and of local politics. Since local zoning represents community interests in land development and has an exclusionary characteristic, multifamily housing zoning is controversial in some localities, We hypothesize that a hierarchical governance structure influences the supply of local multifamily housing zoning, The result of a hierarchical generalized linear model shows evidence that state smart growth reform and state intervention in local land use are positively associated with the establishment of local multifamily housing zoning. The decisions are also affected by local factors such as the supply of land, density restrictions, cost of new infrastructure, and city budget constraints. This study concludes that state authority and smart growth reform make it possible for local governments to commit to multifamily housing zoning to achieve housing affordability and high-density development.

Smart livestock farming aims to improve the productivity of livestock through the provision of optimal housing, and it is developed using various sensors and actuators. Ventilation systems play a crucial role in smart livestock farming, including disease prevention and the processing of pollutants (ammonia and hydrogen sulfide) that are severely detrimental to livestock growth. Malfunctions in animal housing ventilation systems lead to mass mortality events. To address such issues, this study reports the design and implementation for a smart detection system for malfunctions in the ventilation devices installed in animal housing. This system is based on recurrent neural networks (RNNs) and implements the ontology method, considering sensor and controller data as the standard. A semantic sensor network ontology founded on a knowledge base was used to detect malfunctions, and stimulus-sensor-observation patterns were used to determine a sensor network within the smart barn. System activation and RNN model tests were used to test the malfunction detection system, and the error between actual data and predicted values was found to be 0.06889. These findings provide insight into the development of autonomous detection systems for device malfunctions and are essential for the development of smart livestock farming technologies.

Energy consumption in the social housing sector constitutes a major economic, social, and environmental issue, because in some countries such as France, social housing accounts for about 19% of the housing sector. In addition, this sector suffers from ageing, which results in high energy consumption, deterioration in the occupant quality of life, and high pressure on the budget of low-income occupants. The reduction of the energy consumption in this sector becomes a “must”. This reduction can be achieved through energy renovation and innovation in both energy management and occupant involvement by using smart technology. This paper presents a contribution to this goal through the investigation of the impact of smart monitoring on energy savings. The research is based on monitoring of comfort conditions in an occupied social housing residence in the North of France and the use of building thermal numerical modeling. Results of monitoring show that the indoor temperature largely exceeds the regulations requirements and the use of a smart system together with occupant involvement could lead to significant savings in heating energy consumption. The novelty in this paper concerns the use of comfort data from occupied social housing residence, occupation conditions, and building thermal modeling to estimate energy savings. The proposed methodology could be easily implemented to estimate heating energy savings in social housing buildings that lack individual energy consumption monitoring.

In the concept of the Smart City, the issue of quality of life of residents is strongly emphasized. In theory and practice, the quality of urban life is determined by a wide variety of factors. This article focuses on housing infrastructure as a determinant of the quality of life in selected Polish Smart Cities and seeks answers to the question: What is the level of variation in the availability and quality of housing infrastructure in the studied cities and against the provinces in which they are located? In solving the research problem formulated in this way, the following were used: (1) Indicators determining the quality and accessibility of housing infrastructure at the level of the studied cities and provinces; (2) a multiple case study (for eight cities from different regions of Poland); and (3) a comparative analysis conducted at the level of the cities and provinces in which they operate. The resulting analyses indicate that there are differences in the availability and quality of housing infrastructure at the level of smart cities and provinces representing the regional average. The analyzed cities—in all the criteria studied (except the area of the apartment)—dominate over the provinces, which means that they have larger and better housing resources than the rest of the region.

Population growth in Indonesia is always increasing every year so that the number of residential needs also increases. Higher house installaments make people think twice before buying a house. The lack of information about subsidied housing makes people think that the prices of some houses are relatively expensive so people choose to contract which will certainly drain income. Subsidied housing is an untaxed plus house with low interest. On the research this time using a Decision Support System that is called the option-based housing support system, using the smart method, which is able to help people select subsidied housing to fit the need. The implementation of this method aims to facilitate the selection of subsidied housing based on calculations from the criteria used as locations, public facilities, access to locations, the quality of buildings and the credibility of developers. The results of this system provide solutions in the form of the best alternatives to be determined based upon the ranking of smart calculations.

The Smart City Scheme, as part of the Smart Mauritius initiative, adopted by the Government of Mauritius in 2014, heavily incentivised the emergence of new smart cities in greenfields. The resulting migration of business and residents from existing cities to new cities affected the liveability standard of existing cities and encouraged property speculation. This shift reduced home pricing affordability further from the grasp of young professionals. With the Mauritian Landlord and Tenant Act of 1999 discouraging investment in Mauritian city centres, property developers were additionally encouraged to invest in housing projects in these emerging Smart Cities. As part of the Smart Urban Regeneration strategy of Port Louis that sought to reduce competition between new and existing cities, the provision of housing was seen as paramount to enabling the Smart Cities concept as promoted by the Government. The findings of this paper, which explores the urban footprint of Port Louis through field survey, provides insights, as to the components of the city, that can assist policy-makers and developers to better shape projects that are more responsive to the Smart Urban Regeneration plan.

The technology of a smart house is mostly understood as a system that combines a number of subsystems that provide comfortable living conditions for residents in the room and make it possible to significantly reduce energy costs. A house is called smart if it has a certain computer or control system for managing engineering equipment. "Smart House" should be designed so that all services can be integrated with each other with minimal costs (in terms of finances, time and effort), and their maintenance would be organized in an optimal way. The "Smart House" system should competently allocate resources, reduce operating costs and provide a clear control and management interface. Such an intelligent system should be able to recognize specific planned and emergency situations occurring in the home and respond to them (make decisions) in accordance with the given program. Therefore, today the urgent task is to recognize the situation and support decision-making in the "Smart House" cyber-physical system. The conducted overview of methods and tools for situation identification and decision-making support in the "Smart House" cyber-physical system showed that: in existing solutions, situation recognition occurs only for one of the groups of the system of managed housing functions or does not occur at all; existing solutions provide decision-making support for only one of the groups of the system of managed housing functions or do not provide it at all; the available solutions do not provide for the possibility of assessing the sufficiency of information for decision-making in the "Smart House" cyber-physical system. Therefore, there is a need to develop such methods and tools for situation identification and decision-making support in the "Smart House" cyber-physical system, which would: perform situation recognition for all 5 groups of the system of managed housing functions; provide the decision-making support for all 5 groups of the system of managed housing functions; perform an assessment of the sufficiency of information for making all decisions in the "Smart House" cyber-physical system, which will be the focus of the authors' further efforts.

Since 2017, a housing renovation program has been implemented in Moscow, which is a unique program aimed at settling and demolishing shabby low-rise housing stock and new construction on the vacated territory. The renovation program raises a fundamental issue of construction waste disposal. Many current technologies of building mass demolition imply dusting of adjacent territories, have low efficiency in transporting construction waste generated in this process and lead to environmental problems resulting from its disposal, so the rational use of construction waste becomes one of the environmental protection's main points. In this research, we address the question: how the principle "Green Digital Technologies," reflected in the Moscow development concept "Smart City," which is a part of the housing renovation program in Moscow, is currently implemented. Three implementation ways of this principle have been revealed: contraction of "smart houses" under the renovation program according to smart 1.0 standard; use of BIM-technologies in the program; use of "smart demolition" technology. It is proposed to consider the process of recycling construction waste after demolishing old houses under the renovation program according to the principles of sharing and circular economy to increase the program's environmental friendliness and reduce environmental risks for the Moscow population.

This study aims to understand how smart retrofit intervention in an extensive pioneering smart city project in Estonia is perceived among the residents with different dispositions towards the environment and technology in an early phase of the intervention. We interviewed the residents of 18 Soviet-era apartment buildings which underwent a complete retrofit into nearly zero-energy buildings equipped with smart technologies. The results showed that pro-technology residents expressed high interest and trust towards smart retrofit intervention, while residents with environmentally inclined dispositions conveyed more critical arguments. This indicates that individuals’ underlying dispositions may result in different social practices and that a diverse set of engagement approaches are crucial for the success and social acceptance of large-scale pioneering projects in the housing sector.

For a moment, it seemed that the architect had disappeared from the construction supply chain for sustainable and affordable housing provided by Dutch housing associations. Large contractors were making direct agreements with housing associations and wanted to scale up production with their housing factories. However, with the ‘So You Think You Can BUILD’ challenge, architects, consultancies, and contractors reinvented themselves within the construction supply chain and acquired a position as providers of circular building concepts. The aim of this challenge is to stimulate providers of homes to design and produce (in great numbers) affordable and sustainable houses. This not only scales up building production in empty fields but also within difficult and dense build urban areas. A whole new generation of Dutch architects, consultancies, and contractors working in collaboration are now intensively involved with circular and biobased residential buildings, innovative materials and production processes. They are managing to provide attractive products for housing associations and other clients. In the first part of 2021, ‘So You Think You Can BUILD’ challenged teams of designers, engineers and contractors to develop new concepts, with the three winners applying the principles of the ‘passive house’, which is modular and circular, as well as a smart building skin and smart core with open floor space in between.
