Résumé :
The Latvian economy mainly consists of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). There are two important moments in the enhancement of their successful development and competitiveness: competition and collaboration. In the modern world collaboration or partnership is starting to play an ever increasing role as is shown by the research carried out. This research analyzes the partnership model which consists of three components: partnership context component, external partner network component, and internal environment component. The following research methodology was used: monographic method based also on literature review; logically constructive method – to formulate conclusions, analyze the results and establish correlations; analytical method – to divide whole into parts and analyze the parts during the research; synthesis method – unification of elements into a system to research their correlations; social research methods – to obtain primary information and to verify it; graphic method – to depict factor interactions.

Résumé :
In order to help banks formulate Credit Strategies for small, medium-sized and micro enterprises, this paper analyzes enterprises from two aspects. On the one hand, starting from the enterprise's data and from the enterprise's relevant data, including qualitative indicators such as reputation level, invoice information, credit record and operating income, a model is established to quantitatively analyze the operation status and reputation status of the enterprise. On the other hand, through the analysis of the "maximum lending rate" and "maximum lending rate" of the bank, we can analyze the "maximum lending rate" and "how much lending rate" of the bank. Combining the above variables, we can get the best credit strategy of the bank under the factors of credit risk and income. Firstly, without considering the influence of other data, this paper abstracts five indicators to measure the reputation status and enterprise-scale from the data of small and medium-sized enterprises with credit rating, quantifies the indicators. At the same time, the Euclidean distance is calculated by MATLAB modeling, the correlation between lending enterprises and non-lending enterprises is analyzed, and the high-risk enterprises in lending enterprises are selected. Then, among the remaining enterprises that can issue loans, five different credit strategies are formulated according to the weighting of their credit rating and enterprise scale as the primary basis for the number of bank loans and interest rate. Secondly, the focus is on how to comprehensively quantify the credit status and business problems of small, medium-sized and micro enterprises without credit records. Without considering the influence of other data, this paper mainly analyzes the correlation between the enterprises without credit records and the enterprises mentioned above that do not grant loans. It preliminarily obtains the enterprises that can grant loans. Then, through decision tree modeling, the loan demand of enterprises with different credit levels is estimated as a variable. By fitting the curve between interest rate and customer churn rate, different interest rate ranges under different levels are obtained as the second variable. Finally, through the above two variables, we establish the profit function of bank credit, find the corresponding variables at the maximum value, and formulate relevant credit strategies.

Résumé :
The study presented in this thesis investigates the influence of IT capability on the relationship between IT expenditures and long term business performance. To do so, the Resource Based View (RBV) has been used as the theoretical framework, and, within such a framework, the concept of sustainable competitive advantage has been used as a point of reference. IT capability, a term often mentioned in the scientific literature dealing with the applications of RBV in the IS field, has been the subject of this study. Within the IS discipline, IT capability is perceived to have considerable influence on the effect of IT expenditure on the long term results of an organization. However, few studies have identified the extent of this influence and indeed the very definition of IT capability has been so ambiguous that no measurement instrument has been developed and universally accepted. In this thesis we recognized this lack and carried out a multi-method study, to first identify a comprehensive definition of IT capability and then to develop and validate a measure of IT capability and evaluate its role on business performance. The empirical study was performed within the context of small-medium enterprises (SMEs),which implies a lower level of organizational complexity but in order to reflect the reality ofmodern business all such organisations were involved in inter-organisational networks within industrial aggregations in Italy. Eleven SMEs were involved in a multiple case study, and 77 SMEs (belonging to the textile and the mechanical industrial districts in Italy) were surveyed and these results analysed and aggregated to form some conclusions with respect to the meaning and influence of IT capability. The study was conducted over a number of stages to allow an initial definition of IT capability to be evaluated within a case study context and then expanded prior to the main survey. As such the literature review and analysis of previous studies was carried out in two different time periods as the scope of the study was refined.

Résumé :
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are considered the price of entry in today's business environment, and the number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) retiring legacy systems in favor of ERP systems is increasing exponentially. However, there is a lack of knowledge and awareness of ERP systems and their potential benefit and effect on performance, and overall value to SMEs. While ERP adoption costs and potential benefits are high, it is not apparent whether the end result will translate into higher productivity for SMEs. The goal of this study is to evaluate the benefits that accrue to a firm on adoption of an ERP system. In the context of SME, a production function approach is used to assess benefits over short and long term. In addition to the production function approach, a variety of related methods such as those based on stock market valuation and Tobin's Q are examined. Data were collected using the well-known CRSP datasets for SMEs. Analysis of data suggests that ERP implementation has no effect on firm's performance as measured by profit margins, Tobin's Q ratio and Labor productivity. In fact, ERP investments do not yield noticeable improvements on the performance measures even four years after implementation. Weaknesses in data suggest that the conclusion may be seen as tentative. The results of this research study, added value to the academic knowledge base by helping to understand the effects ERPs have on SMEs overall performance.

Résumé :
The aim of this research was to discover the issues influencing the adoption of e-commerce by small and medium business enterprises (SMEs) in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The demand aspect of the theory of diffusion of innovation enabled the formulation of a number of research propositions which formed the focus for this research. Seventy-five randomly-selected SMEs within the ACT were interviewed. Of these seventy five, fifty had adopted e-commerce and twenty-five had not. Findings complemented results from other studies, but also added to them. Factors from the demand aspect of the theory of time, resources (personnel, financial, technological), business organisation, size, return on investment, push by outside agencies or clients, and communication channels were found to be of little importance. Of greater importance were characteristics of the SME operators themselves (such as their innovativeness, their relative youth and educational level), the size of their business, the number of years it had been operating, and marketing issues. A prime consideration was that of attaining and maintaining a competitive edge over their competitors. Security and privacy issues were of little consideration prior to the adoption process, but became of much greater importance once SMEs had adopted e-commerce. Some things discovered by this research that have not appeared in the reporting of other studies included: The importance of tertiary education for the primary decision-makers in the organisation; The role banks played in the adoption process; The high cost and difficulty of compliance with government regulations, especially regarding the employment of staff; and The lack of use of specifically established communication channels, set up by government bodies or associated industry organisations to educate and inform SMEs about the potential and process of e-commerce. Results of this research have implications for a large number of associated stakeholders government, educational institutions, and trade, industry and professional associations and as such deserve to be widely disseminated.

Résumé :
Thesis (MTech (Information Technology))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2012.
South Africa has a complex financial and retail service industry with high reliance on the use of IT systems to ensure effectiveness and maintainability. Decision making and improved outcomes may be done through an IT aligned enterprise architecture (EA) strategy. EA is a capability that contributes to the support and success of an organisations' IT. Organisations are currently using EA to better align IT and the business strategy which provides a comprehensive v.ew of the IT system. Thus, EA is increasing in organisations yet the measurement and value of EA is limited to organisations and enterprise architects. The discussions of the benefits and value of EA has been discussed for several years, however there are still no consensus about how the benefits and value of EA can be measured. The lack and clear understanding of the benefits and value of EA needs to consider different aspects of IT as well as the shareholders when measuring the benefits and value of EA to an organisation.

Résumé :
This paper presents a methodological approach to support the running of a temporary collaborative network through the formation and operation of a virtual enterprise (VE), where the participating enterprises, especially small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), collaborate with each other for mutual benefit. Overall VE architectural framework which is considered as the baseline to execute VE manufacturing processes is highlighted in this research. Different components within this architecture such as visualization and configuration, message exchange, process designer, forecasting and simulation, optimization, cloud-based data storage, etc., are briefly explained with respect to their corresponding interfaces with each other. Among all the components of VE architecture, the user interface component termed ‘Dashboard’ is explicitly highlighted with a case example of a VE network. This Dashboard component is implemented to visualize the VE operational activities that directly contribute to monitor and manage the associated collaborative processes successfully. Further research potential along with the general research outcomes are also highlighted in the conclusion section of this paper.

Résumé :
Metrology is an important aspect to be cared for in Small and Medium Enterprises, mainly in the field of manufacturing. A Mexican entrepreneur said that ‘metrology is in the ladder step that brings a manufacturing enterprise from the craftsmanship level to the industrial level. Beyond, metrology can be a competitive advantage of a SME for achieving higher levels of quality, productivity, competitiveness and innovation. SMEs often find it difficult to devote the necessary resources to metrology, sometimes they don't know what metrology can do for them and other times they don't know how to take an adequate strategy for this important aspect of their company. The present work is based on the experience of a number of years attending the metrological aspects of manufacturing companies with the MESURA methodology and work team. The methodology has a number of principles which include a lean approach to metrology with a fit fur purpose tactics, equilibrium among the elements of measuring systems and live integration.

Résumé :
This paper reviews the overall micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise landscape in Asia, including the challenges and constraints faced by enterprises in physical (offline) and online markets. It explores the unique circumstances and externalities that arise due to the special characteristics of platforms and how they impact merchants and other platform users. Findings suggest that the unique features of platforms, and the two-sided market structure they foster, require a bespoke policy approach from competition authorities and policymakers.

This brief looks at how projects to build entrepreneurial capacity and improve access to finance and equipment can strengthen the resilience of Mongolia’s micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). It details how MSMEs, which account for around 70% of Mongolia’s employment, suffered financially during the COVID-19 pandemic and shares feedback from needs assessments, capacity building, and equipment provision programs. It recommends future programs focus on improving access to loans, offer e-commerce and digital marketing training, and support the growth of local cooperatives to bolster income equality and build more sustainable businesses.

Vives, Antonio. Social and Environmental Responsibility in Small and Medium Enterprises in Latin America. Inter-American Development Bank, septembre 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0008786.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This technical paper determines the extent to which small and medium enterprises (SMEs) behave responsibly, and propose measures to enhance and promote corporate social responsibility in SMEs. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has taken on a broader view and refers to the actions that firms take to carry out their activities in a responsible manner, respecting the environment, the community and the workforce, and also creating opportunities to enhance them. The study covers eight countries in Latin America and over 1,300 firms surveyed. As SMEs represent over 95 percent of all firms in Latin America, provide between 40 and 60 percent of all jobs, and account for 30 to 50 percent of GDP, their behavior can have a significant impact on society and the environment.

Micco, Alejandro, et Arturo Galindo. Bank Credit to Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises : The Role of Creditor Protection. Inter-American Development Bank, décembre 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0010766.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This paper develops a model showing that inefficient legal protections disproportionately increase financial restrictions for creditors that have less wealth. Due to fixed monitoring costs in equilibrium, banks will not monitor small firms, and therefore these firms will adopt risky technologies that imply a higher probability of bankruptcy. This implies that inefficiencies in the bankruptcy procedure will have a greater effect on small firms vis-à-vis large ones. Using a survey of firms in 62 countries around the world (WBES) and econometric techniques that allow us to deal with observed and unobserved country-specific components, as well as with partial endogeneity, the paper explore the role of creditor protection on small and medium-size enterprises access to bank credit. It is found that better protection of creditors reduces the financing gap between small and large firms.
