Abstract The present commentary addresses cybersemiotics, a transdisciplinary theory of communication, signification, information, and cognition which is based on the work of Danish scholar Søren Brier. Cybersemiotics is a metatheory that encompasses the research programs of information theory, first and second-order cybernetics, Luhmann’s systems theory, cognitive sciences, Peircean biosemiotics, pragmatic linguistics, and language game theory. I will explore some of these theoretical frameworks and how cybersemiotics integrates them.

This paper attempts to critique phonocentrism based on linguistic signs and explores the cognitive functions of Chinese characters through semiotic concepts and approaches. From the semiotics of writing, this paper suggests a model of Chinese characters’ perceptive cognition which works on schema of character codes and signification. This model logically demonstrates the process by which consumers recognize Chinese orthographic signs and associate with certain meanings. This paper also analyzes the process of signification performed by consumers in the Sinosphere. Specifically examining some cases of branding strategies by Chinese and Korean companies, it endeavors to test the efficacy of the model by applying it to the model for perception cognitive of Chinese character. This study aims at expanding the discursive space for the incorporation of convergence theory and methodology. Presenting a semiotic model of sensory perception, the paper attempts to contribute to the establishment of semiotics based on Chinese characters which display eminent iconic, symbolic and cognitive functions.

This article presents a discussion about the application of metaphors in the meaning of words as an original way of interpreting the world due to the ability of this linguistic resource to adapt to the multiplicity of being, with its different meanings. It was intended to define the concept of metaphor bringing the vision of Aristotle (1987), as well as delimiting the reflexes of the adoption of terms and words for figurative representation. The potential for cognitive abstraction of metaphors that arises from associations is evidenced and ends up enriching and valuing hermeneutic pluralism in everyday expression and also in scientific language.

Résumé Les Communia gramatice, un compendium grammatical anonyme rédigé autour de 1250 dans le milieu éclectique de la Faculté des arts de Paris et contenu aujourd’hui uniquement dans le manuscrit 16617 du fonds latin de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, traitent entre autres du statut linguistique de l’interjection. La notion de signification, au sens de contenu de connaissances et de rapport référentiel entre un mot et son signifié, y joue un rôle fondamental : la principale difficulté onto-grammaticale présentée par l’interiectio étant précisément de déterminer la nature de sa signification. L’auteur anonyme des Communia gramatice pose clairement la distinction classique entre la signification d’une émotion (affectus) et la signification d’un concept (conceptus), mais y apporte des nuances intéressantes de nature cognitive : nous sommes à une époque où la philosophie naturelle aristotélicienne vient tout juste de rencontrer la grammaire spéculative typiquement parisienne (vers 1240).

The great hopes of scientists in various fields, from computer science and mathematics to literature and art criticism, from analytical philosophy to post-structuralism, in the last third of the 20th and first quarter of the 21st centuries are assigned to semiotics, or the general theory of signs, which studies signification and its laws. Signification, or designation (denotation, signalizing, symbolization) is the widest-common procedure in scientific creativity and culture in general.
 The scope of the semiotic approach and the abstractness of the categories of semiotics are such that they allow for speaking at least of the theoretical-cognitive, if not ontological, universality of its approaches and the general methodological validity of its tools. One is capable of thinking only on the basis of the semiotic mediation of reality; moreover, the essence of consciousness itself as a whole is reflective, and representative. The recognition of the great informative capacity and value of the basic semiotic concepts, as well as the extreme breadth of the subject of semiotics due to the actual or potential symbolic nature of human science and culture, the instrumental nature of signs and symbols which science, ethics, religion, and art are full of, allows us to hope that semiotics will play, in the near future, the role of a universal manifestor and communicator.

Traditionnellement, une théorie de la signification doit rendre compte à la fois des conditions de vérité des phrases des langues naturelles et des relations évidentes qu'entretiennent le langage et la pensée. À ce titre, le paradigme frégéen est un modele du genre. Une phrase y est dite exprimer une pensée, laquelle lui sert de valeur cognitive et a une valeur de vérité. Différentes occurrences d'une même phrase expriment une même pensée. Si cette phrase a une occurrence dans un contexte d'attitude propositionnelle, elle réfère à la pensée qu'elle exprimerait en contexte ordinaire. La théorie de la référence directe a fait voler en éclats cette image aussi simple que claire de la relation entre langage et pensée. C'est sur cet arrière-plan que prend place le livre de François Récanati, Direct Reference. Une bonne partie des efforts de l'auteur est en effet consacrée à rétablir des liens aujourd'hui étiolés.

In this article we try to contextualize the relations between Linguistics and Cognitive Sciences from a pragmatic-discursive standpoint. For this purpose, we proceed with a critical study of the streams that, in Linguistics, postulate a close relation between language and cognition, concerning some fundamental notions such as communication, use and context. Finally we list the theoretical bases upon which a conceptual bridge betweeen language and cognition can be established: a relation of mutual constitutiveness, which necessarily passes through the processes of signification and in which discourse intervenes.

Recent studies on musical signification have been characterized by an apparently insurmountable gap between disciplines that focus on the musical text as sound (music theory, musicology), those that focus on the hearing subject (cognitive sciences, psychology of music), and those that focus on social discourses about music (ethnomusicology, anthropology, sociology). This article argues that the most recent theoretical advances in music semiotics provide means to overcome this gap. After a brief examination of some key concepts in music semiotics, the author identifies three approaches to this problem: the semiotic-hermeneutic approach, the cognitive-embodied approach, and the social-political approach. Mais une telle mise à l'épreuve n'a de valeur que si elle confronte d'abord l'idée reçue voulant que sa position a peu ou pas de liens avec l'étude empirique du développement cognitif. Je défends ici une approche du point de vue de Davidson qui montre clairement en quoi une vaste gamme de découvertes empiriques en psychologie du développement — souvent considérées comme non pertinentes, voire comme incompatibles, avec son enquête conceptuelle — est en fait fort pertinente et en harmonie avec lui.

C'est une recherche qui étudie la pensée entrain de connaître, dans les moments spécifiques de déséquilibration cognitive appelés moments de turbulence. Dans une étude expérimentale, à propos de la flottaison des corps, nous essayons d'analyser le processus d'évolution de la pensée lorsu'elle est déstabilisée cognitivement. Le cadre épistémologique retenu pour étuider ce phénomène d'apprentissage repose principalement sur la théorie de Sara Pain qui aborde la pensée comme une double structure, l'une de caractère logique-conceptuel, chargée de la construction de l'objectivité de l'autre de caractère dramatique-désidératif, chargée de donner de la signification subjective et affective à la connaissance et à l'ignorance. Cette thèse explore une approche multipropositionnelle du langage et son application à divers phénomènes linguistiques. Ici, je motive une extension de la théorie réflexive-référentielle de John Perry pour couvrir les énoncés de phrases simples et complexes. J’argumente que ce cadre offre une compréhension plus profonde des contenus modaux et cognitifs ainsi que de leur interaction. Tout d’abord, j’introduis la théorie en soulignant sa base multipropositionnaliste. J’applique ensuite l’analyse aux phrases simples pour résoudre les problèmes de signification cognitive et les violations apparentes des principes d’extensionnalité dues à la substitutivité. Par la suite, j’étends cette analyse aux phrases complexes contenant des verbes d'attitude ou des expressions modales. Concernant les rapports d’attitude, je propose une solution au problème de l’opacité, une interprétation des rapports opaques versus transparents, relationnels versus non relationnels, et une approche novateur des rapports de croyance impliquant des constituants non articulés. Pour les phrases modales, je discute du rôle de la rigidité dans l’élucidation de la sémantique des noms et critique les réactions à la rigidité. Enfin, je présente une interprétation de la rigidité et un compte rendu du contenu modal, des modalités mixtes, et de la distinction de dicto et de re dans les phrases modales au sein du cadre multipropositionnel<br>This thesis explores a multipropositional approach to language and its application across various linguistic phenomena. Here, I motivate an extension of John Perry’s reference-reflexive theory to cover utterances of simple and complex sentences. I argue that this framework provides a deeper understanding of modal and cognitive contents and their interaction. First, I introduce the theory emphasizing its multipropositionalist basis. I then apply the analysis to simple sentences for solving problems with cognitive significance and apparent violation of extensional principles due to substitutivity. Afterward, I extend this analysis to complex sentences with attitude verbs or modal expressions. Concerning attitude reports, I offer a solution to the problem of opacity, an interpretation of opaque vs. transparent reports, relational vs. non-relational reports, and a novel approach to belief reports involving unarticulated constituents. For modal sentences, I discuss the role of rigidity in elucidating the semantics of names and critique reactions to rigidity. Finally, I present an interpretation of rigidity and an account of modal content, mixed modalities, and the de dicto and de re distinction in modal sentences within the multipropositional framework

Tout d'abord perçue comme un phénomène marginal, presque un accident en langue, on considère aujourd'hui que la polysémie fait partie intégrante des systèmes linguistiques. De nombreuses théories se sont intéressées au phénomène des unités à sens multiples et reliés. La première partie de notre travail en dresse un panorama non exhaustif mais révélateur, montrant comment et pourquoi la polysémie s'est peu à peu imposée comme un phénomène incontournable qui doit nécessairement être au cœur de tout modèle de la signification. Aussi, à partir de la distinction établie par G. Kleiber (1999), nous considérons deux grands courants selon le rapport établi entre signification, référence et polysémie. Le premier décrit la polysémie en termes de sens premier référentiel dont sont dérivés des sens secondaires (courant objectiviste). Le second l'analyse en termes de potentiel sémantique aréférentiel à partir duquel est obtenu l'ensemble des sens du polysème par spécialisation ou enrichissement contextuel(le) (courant constructiviste). Notre réflexion porte ensuite sur la représentation de la signification des polysèmes - principalement des noms - en grammaire cognitive (R.W. Langacker). Nous postulons que toute expression est associée, dans l'appareil cognitif des locuteurs-auditeurs, à une structure conceptuelle d'informations représentant sa signification. Nous proposons une modélisation en réseau structuré autour de valeurs sémantiques plus ou moins schématiques et de sens élaborés. Ainsi, c'est la valeur la plus schématique qui permet de faire le lien en langue entre ses élaborations que sont les sens observables en discours. Sur la base des travaux de D. Tuggy (1993), nous déclinons les représentations de la signification des mots à sens multiples le long d'un continuum homonymie-polysémie-multifacialité-indétermination, selon les degrés d'enracinement, de saillance, et les possibilités d'accessibilité et d'activation des différents composants (valeur schématique et élaborations sémantiques). Et, nous mettons ainsi en avant certaines des régularités organisatrices propres aux représentations sémanticoconceptuelles des polysèmes nominaux, ainsi qu'une typologie des sens polysémiques. Nous abordons enfin la construction du sens en grammaire cognitive, notamment l'influence du contexte dans l'interprétation d'expressions complexes comportant un polysème. Ainsi, nous considérons qu'il s'agit d'un processus non modulaire, compositionnel et dynamique. L'analyse de syntagmes nominaux du type Adj-N et N-Adj révèle en outre certaines régularités dans l'activation des sens polysémiques des unités linguistiques mises en jeu, liées au cotexte (place et fonction de l'adjectif par rapport au substantif recteur) et au contexte extralinguistique

Ce travail s'intéresse à la manière dont se construisent les significations, ce sur quoi ces dernières s'appuient et comment elles évoluent au cours de la projection cinématographique. La façon dont la construction du sens progresse, concerne plus cette recherche que le résultat de l'interprétation lui-même. Pour effectuer cette recherche, nous nous appuyons plus spécifiquement sur des situations d'interprétations expériencées (vs expérimentées) au cours de la projection du film. Lost Higway est le film central de notre analyse. Plusieurs spécificités permettent de cerner l'approche fondamentalement compréhensive de notre démarche. La première consiste à ne pas se centrer exclusivement sur le film. Nous souhaitons dépasser les seules données filmiques et introduire le spectateur au centre du débat. La seconde est de considérer que la construction de sens ne peut pas se comprendre, si on oublie de la considérer au sein de la situation de communication dans laquelle elle existe. Les interprétations des spectateurs sont des actions situées. Pour finir, notre axe de recherche s'intéresse tout particulièrement au " cours d'action " de la projection. Cela signifie que nous cherchons à comprendre le processus de l'avancée des significations, au fur et à mesure de la projection du film. Ces positions nous contraignent à observer un mouvement d'interprétation qui mobilise toute une dynamique de relation entre le film, le spectateur et la situation. Ce que nous cherchons à décrire est " un " mode de fonctionnement progressif et complexe de l'avancée progressive du sens.

Este trabalho objetiva discutir aspectos culturais do processo de significação, analisando a linguagem de conversas com indígenas Kaiowá do Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil. O ponto central da tese é discutir as diferenças culturais do processo de significação. Para desenvolver o trabalho, foram coletadas falas de indígenas identificados como representantes da cultura kaiowá, ou seja, indígenas reconhecidos por seus pares por possuírem conhecimentos tradicionais e habilidades de liderança. As falas foram coletadas em dez diferentes lugares e tematizaram o tekoha [teko’ha] - espaço genericamente definido como o lugar onde vivem os Kaiowá segundo seu modo de ser. Dessas conversas, delimitou-se um corpus que foi analisado com base em perspectivas teóricas desenvolvidas no âmbito da Linguística Cognitiva pensadas e aplicadas por Lakoff (1987), Lakoff; Johnson (2003), Fauconnier (1994, 2002), Kövecses (2005) e outros. A interpretação do corpus permitiu demonstrar traços comuns a todos os entrevistados, evidenciando características da cultura kaiowá. As análises das conversas permitiram refletir sobre o jeito kaiowá de conceptualizar e simbolizar elaborado na experiência desse grupo étnico pelo mundo, configurando-se como uma maneira específica de construir entendimentos da realidade e de elaborar e utilizar uma linguagem para evocar e reatualizar esses entendimentos. Dessa maneira, este trabalho corrobora a tese da Cognição Corporificada, ou seja, de que a elaboração de significado institui-se no contato do corpo com o meio. Esse processo é determinado por forças biológicas, mas é elaborado nas experiências dos grupos sociais com seu meio ambiente. Os diferentes grupos sociais vivenciam experiências diferentes em ambientes diferentes, o que suscita diferentes culturas, isto é, diferentes maneiras de produzir a vida, de perceber, conceptualizar e representar as experiências sócio-históricas. Os resultados do trabalho demonstraram a importância de se compreender os aspectos cognitivos, linguísticos, sociais e históricos das culturas bem como as premissas básicas que as alicerçam. Levar em consideração todos esses aspectos possibilitou demonstrar a complexidade e o engendramento do significado de tekoha e o entrelaçamento desses aspectos no processo de construção e reatualização desse significado. A análise dos dados possibilitou ainda refletir sobre a cultura kaiowá como um ninho de pertença, uma possível maneira de estabelecer uma verdade, um conjunto de premissas e valores que garante e justifica a existência desses indígenas. Por meio desse tipo de análise, foi possível demonstrar como o significado de tekoha, fora do frame cultural kaiowá, pode ser compreendido de maneira muito superficial, o que reforça a tese da importância do contexto cultural para a compreensão de categorias e conceitos. A realização do trabalho permitiu concluir que o método de coleta de dados, com destaque para a etnografia semiestruturada, a perspectiva teórica e a abordagem interdisciplinar foram fundamentais para atingir os objetivos estabelecidos. A perspectiva teórica da Linguística Cognitiva mostrou-se um importante aporte teórico para discutir a significação e compreender as questões indígenas, podendo auxiliar, inclusive, em discussões sobre diálogo intercultural. Por fim, as reflexões realizadas neste trabalho podem servir de base para se pensar projetos de pesquisa, de ensino e métodos de ensino a serem aplicados em escolas indígenas diferenciadas. Pode ainda, contribuir com discussões que pautem as relações interétnicas, sobretudo as relações entre não índios e os Kaiowá.<br>This work aims at discussing the cultural aspects of the signification process, by analyzing the language used in talks with Kaiowá people from Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Its central point is to discuss cultural differences in the signification process. To develop the work, conversations with Kaiowá members considered being cultural examples by their peers, for having traditional knowledge and leadership traits were recorded and analyzed. The conversations were recorded in ten different places and approached the theme tekoha [teko’ha], generically defined as a place where the Kaiowá people live according to their way of living. With the recordings, a corpus was formed and analyzed on the basis of theoretical perspectives developed within the Cognitive Linguistics framework, as thought and applied by authors like Lakoff (1987), Lakoff; Johnson (2003), Fauconnier (1994, 2002), Kövecses (2005), and others. The corpus interpretation permitted to demonstrate common traits among all people interviewed, evidencing Kaiowá cultural characteristics. The corpus analyses revealed these cultural traits as well as reflected the Kaiowá way of conceptualizing and symbolizing. These traits have been constructed based on their experience in the world, becoming a specific way of constructing world understandings and of elaborating and applying a language to evoke and update them. In this way, this work corroborates the Embodied Cognition Hypothesis, according to which meaning elaboration takes place in the interaction between body and environment, a process determined by biological forces, but elaborated in the experience of social groups in a determined place, which comes up with different ways of perceiving, conceptualizing and representing social-historical experiences. The analyses demonstrated the importance of understanding cognitive, linguistic, social, and historical aspects as well as the basic premises that mix up to form cultures. Taking into account all these aspects made possible to demonstrate the complexity and the engendering of the meaning of tekoha, as well as to show how they are all interconnected in the process of meaning building and updating. The data analyses reflected how the Kaiowá people have built their culture as a belonging nest, a possible way of engendering truth and a set of premises and values whereof they ensure and justify their existence. By using this kind of analysis, it was possible to demonstrate how the meaning of tekoha, out of this cultural frame, might sometimes be understood very superficially, which reinforces the thesis of the importance of the context for the comprehension of categories and concepts. The research has led to conclude that the data collection method, by means of semi structured ethnography, as well as the theoretical perspective and the interdisciplinary approach were suitable so as to achieve the established objectives. The Cognitive Linguistics theoretical perspective proved to be an important theoretical support to understand not only the signification process in academic terms but also to discuss indigenous issues contributing to understand intercultural dialog. At last, the reflections carried out in this work can inspire research and teaching projects and also be used as a support for teaching methods at indigenous schools. It can still contribute for discussions on interethnic relations, especially on relations between the non-indigenous and the Kaiwoá people.

Ce travail a pour but de simuler la compréhension d'expressions de la langue par le locuteur-auditeur. Cette simulation se situe dans un courant qui privilégie l'accès à l'ensemble de l'information cognitive et une construction du sens au fur et à mesure de la prise en compte de l'énoncé. Nous fournissons en entrée des expressions. Le système dispose d'une base de connaissances qui contient les représentations conceptuelles des unités composant ces expressions, et la sortie se présente sous la forme d'une structure de représentation de l'énoncé entré. L'obtention de ce résultat requiert différentes modélisations : tout d'abord celle de structures de représentation des lexèmes qui traduisent leur richesse informationnelle et l'organise au moyen de filtres. Ensuite, nous devons imaginer un système d'interaction pour la compréhension dynamique et l'élaboration d'une structure complexe à partir de la signification de ces lexèmes. Le coeur du projet est ce système d'interaction entre les éléments de l'expression complexe. Il privilégie le principe de compositionnalité entre les unités et les processus de construction : les parties s'influencent entre elles, les parties influencent le tout et le tout influence les parties. Le processus de compréhension est dynamique dans la mesure où il évolue au cours de la construction de la signification de l'expression, cette évolution étant permise du fait de l'interaction constante entre les mots. Ce travail se focalisera plus particulièrement sur les associations nom-modifieur de nom, mais avec l'ambition d'atteindre à une formalisation suffisamment générale pour qu'elle permette ensuite un élargissement aux autres éléments syntaxiques et aux interactions qui se produisent entre eux. Parmi la multitude d'énoncés possibles, nous nous attacherons à choisir plus particulièrement des unités polysémiques, et des énoncés permettant la prise en compte des différentes facettes des unités impliquées

This thesis explores the nature and emergence of early body ornamentation, which has long been at the forefront of the debate on modern human origins. According to most prehistorians, ornamental shell beads are unequivocal proxies for behavioural and cognitive "modernity", for they are considered the arbitrary products of symbolically-capable brains. In my dissertation, I argue against the "symbolic" dictum of reducing material signification to linguistic terms, and attributing its creation to a representational mechanism. For one, the significative meaning of material culture is not entirely arbitrary, because concepts can be founded on physical properties and affordances. Moreover, material signification is not the epiphenomenal product of innate cognitive modules, for the mind is not a computational device that processes internal representations before externalising them through behaviour. I thus suggest that these theoretical fallacies about the nature and emergence of material signification can be overcome by combining a pragmatic semiotic approach with an enactive theory of cognition. Briefly put, a pragmatic semiotic theory describes the nature of material signification by recognising that significative concepts can be founded on physical qualities and relations, whereas an enactive theory of cognition accounts for the emergence of material signification by explaining how significative concepts are brought forth via the constitutive entwinement of mind and matter. Through the synergistic fusion of these theoretical tenets, the origins of early body ornamentation can be examined from a developmental perspective that treats the generation of significative meaning as the emergent product of material engagement. In its light, the preoccupation of most evolutionary archaeologists with the notion of "modernity" appears to be inherently problematic. It is therefore ultimately proposed that the dominant symbolic interpretation of material signification need be replaced with a pragmatic and enactive theory of cognitive semiotics that is suitably geared to trace the evolution of prehistoric material signs.

Establishing a comprehensive framework for investigating the profound connection between music and spiritual experiences, this chapter first introduces the Metaphysics of Quality by Robert Pirsig. This philosophical approach offers specific ontological positions on spirituality and empiricism, laying the groundwork for the exploration of music and trance phenomena, often considered outside of empirical studies. Drawing upon the Metaphysics of Quality, the study then adopts a multidisciplinary approach to unravel the intricate dynamics of musical trance. It addresses the prevailing dichotomy in existing literature, which often isolates either the socio-cultural significance or the psychoacoustic mechanisms of music in trance states. In order to bridge this gap, the inquiry simultaneously delves into music's role as a culture-specific sign and a sonic inducer within spiritual contexts. Through cognitive and psychological lenses, the study explores theories of altered states of consciousness (ASC), examines ethnographic examples of musical trance practices from nine distinct geographical regions, and provides comparative analysis of field recordings to gain insights into the psychoacoustic properties accompanying trance states. While direct causality between sound and trance induction remains elusive, the study identifies common sonic patterns hinting at a complementary function of music in ASC. Various units of statistical regularities in music emerge as significant elements linking sound to perceptual and socio-cultural contexts of trance rituals. Through integration within a non-dualist eco-social model of sonic signification, the chapter provides a nuanced understanding of music's multifaceted role in facilitating spiritual experiences across diverse cultural landscapes.

This chapter uses Aquinas’ doctrine of intentions in the medium to develop a new theory of physiosemiosis (signification in inanimate nature). For Aquinas, intentionality is present not only in mental states but also in bodily senses and inanimate media such as air and water. By this means, for Aquinas, inanimate things participate to some degree in the cognitive processes that are proper to cognitive beings. Intentions in the medium can be understood in modern terms as patterns of matter and energy, which signify the physical things that caused those patterns. There is, then, a rudimentary action of semiosis in the exchange of matter and energy among inanimate things, and the semiotic patterns here give a very diminished but—extraordinary as it sounds—nonetheless true expression of the movement of signification that constitutes culture. This points to a semiotic ontology: being is sign.

This chapter first explores early grammarians’ accounts of the interjection and then elaborates on thirteenth-century grammarians’ analysis of interjections, communication rather than formal grammar, and the role of affectus, feeling, and emotion within grammar and semantics. The grammarians stretched the idea of verbal meaning to include both cognitive and affective signification as understood in specific contexts. Priscian (Institutiones, 2.15) provided grammarians with a framework for contrasting assertive sentences referring to substances with nonassertive sentences or interjections signifying mental dispositions or affects. These grammarians situated grammar and usage within interpersonal speech contexts.

The concept of diegesis is essential to film studies and narratology. The first part of the chapter examines the historical trajectory to which the present concept of the diegesis owes its appropriation in film semiology, structuralist narratology, film musicology, and cognitive formalism into a “textual” model detached from narrative experientiality and affect. In reference to recent debates concerning the concept of diegesis, it is evidenced how textual assumptions continue to impede a field trying to move on to more embodied understandings of the filmic experience. This chapter develops the “enactive” and “media-anthropological” concept of the diegesis-as-environment as an alternative to the dominant conception of the diegesis-as-text. In doing so, it returns to the original filmological conception of the diegesis as more than “a series of events” but, rather, the world of the story, including its affective components such as the atmospheres that radiate from it. Consequently, the diegesis-as-environment rejects the semiological reduction of the diegesis to the sum of a film’s “literal” meanings, its denotations. Such a definition effectively identifies filmic signification with linguistic and verbal signification, thereby neglecting cinema’s material and affective modes of communicating their worlds through ambient noises, subtle colorations, editing rhythms, performative techniques, and camera movements that communicate through embodied affects. Proposed instead is an affective semiotics that replaces the Saussurean “sign” with Deleuze’s “signaletic material” as the main constituent of cinematic signification.

Abstract The aim of this chapter is fourfold. First, it introduces an artistic mode of enquiry to a cognitive archaeology readership. Called clayful phenomenology, the method depends upon the sense-making potential of material change. Unlike the outcome of scientific research, the ideas created by a clayful phenomenological investigation are not expressed in words or numbers but become manifest through the morphosis and metamorphosis of clay. Meanings that are made with a clayful attitude lack the clarity of logical or semantic statements; their sense derived from connections that are metaphorical, allegorical, and mythical. Method and meaning are non-coherent. Second, the chapter gives the theoretical framework for clayful phenomenology, principally provided by Material Engagement Theory, with additional support from Heidegger’s phenomenological accounts of Dasein. It shows how this ontological backdrop transforms the agent of enquiry from an individual artist to a “transient system of creation,” a temporary assembly made not of whole things but a collection of processes. Third, it shows how an engagement with Project Holocene changed the contemporary signification of a specific prehistoric artifactual type, a Jōmon flame pot. The change was born, not of prior intention, but happened non-coherently, through the confluence of the sort of disparate events that gather as a transient system of creation. Fourth, the chapter describes what time feels like from inside a system of creation. Inside, instead of creative activity happening in time, the creation of temporal experience is part of the activity of the system.

Objetivos. Explorar el rendimiento cognitivo en diferentes funciones cognitivas una vez completada la desintoxicación de sustancias de abuso. Determinar si existe recuperación en el funcionamiento cognitivo a los seis meses de abstinencia en el contexto de un tratamiento intensivo multidisciplinar e integrado. Comparar el rendimiento cognitivo en el grupo de diagnóstico dual y el grupo de diagnóstico no dual. Comparar la evolución en rendimiento cognitivo de un grupo y otro. Material y Método. Muestra formada por 212 pacientes que completan el programa terapéutico (libre de drogas, excepto nicotina y cafeína) en un dispositivo de tratamiento multidisciplinar e integrado, que incluye hospitalización y centro de día con una duración de 6 meses. Instrumento de medida. Evaluación Cognitiva de Montreal (MoCA) administrada por psicólogos clínicos. Análisis estadísticos: Se utilizó el paquete estadístico SPSS vs. 23. Estadísticos descriptivos: edad, sexo, nivel de estudios, diagnóstico al alta y dominios cognitivos que evalúa el MoCA. Prueba t para muestras relacionadas para diferencias pre-post en estos dominios. Prueba t para muestras independientes para comparar diagnóstico dual y no dual. Resultados y conclusiones. Las funciones cognitivas más afectadas son las visoespaciales y memoria diferida y las más conservadas la denominación y la orientación. Existe mejoría significativa en atención, lenguaje, recuerdo diferido y orientación en ambos grupos y la diferencia entre ambos se acorta al alta. Pacientes con diagnóstico dual presentan al mes de ingreso un deterioro cognitivo mayor que aquellos con diagnóstico no dual pero tras completar el mismo tratamiento experimentan una mejoría significativa hasta el punto que al alta las puntuaciones entre ambos grupos se aproximan y la diferencia deja de ser significativa. Planteamos nuevos estudios donde afinar en las variables implicadas para diseñar tratamientos con componentes específicos que se acomoden a las dificultades individuales.

Concurrently with the advent of new technologies, the content and typology of language courses have changed. The borders between the courses we propose to our students have become more permeable in view of the society demands, educational needs and institutional constraints. In a francophone country such as Romania, where there are French streams receiving students who have French as their mother tongue, or as a second or foreign language, having relatively heterogeneous linguistic and cultural backgrounds, the French for Specific Purposes (FSP -FOS) modules also comprise components of French for Academic Purposes (FAP -FOU) and of French for Professional Communication (FPC -FLP). On the other hand, for future engineers who are very open to new technologies, the use of the digital technology in a mixed FOS-FOU (FSP-FAP) module can contribute to a better acquisition of specific knowledge as well as the development of know-how essential to successful communication and action of the future social actor. I will therefore aim to present digital technologies integration in the language for specific purposes course in the particular context of Bucharest POLITEHNICA University. Starting from a type of course that is not a classical FSP (FOS) one, in Mangiante et Papette’s signification, having one specific objective only, but a mixed type one, I will analyze the pedagogical efficiency of the text treatment software and smart phone use in class. The analysis will be carried out on the following types of activities: information search, language work with a stress on the terminological-lexical and/or intercultural components, as well as on the types of documents that allow digital means of exploitation. I will also approach the role of digital technologies integration from a cognitive perspective, as well as from a didactic and/or intercultural one.

Notadamente, os jogos estao frequentes cada vez mais no ensino, pois sao imprescindiveis para que o cognitivo da crianca se desenvolva, alem da integracao social e a organizacao do pensamento. No que concerne ao ensino de Matematica e possivel observarmos incontaveis recursos utilizados para o favorecimento da aprendizagem significativa dos conteudos matematicos, dentre eles, o Xadrez por possuir admiraveis atributos que podem desenvolver habilidades cognitivas, o aprimoramento do raciocinio logico e da concentracao dos educandos em diversos niveis. Diante dessa premissa, a presente pesquisa teve como objetivo geral analisar a importancia do xadrez como ferramenta pedagogica, possibilitando assim a sua utilizacao nas aulas de Matematica. O conteudo deste artigo trata a origem do xadrez, regras e caracteristicas, bem como os movimentos especiais utilizados durante uma partida; o uso do xadrez na escola; o xadrez pedagogico e sua relacao com a Matematica. Para alcancarmos o nosso objetivo de estudo, estabelecemos dialogos com autores como: Rezende (2013), Loureiro (2006), Almeida (2010), Goes (2002), Lara (2003), Garrido (2001) dentre outros. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa e como tecnica de producao dos dados optou-se por um questionario, o qual contou com a participacao de quatro professores licenciados em Matematica que atuam em escolas da rede publica e privada no ambito do municipio de Parnaiba (PI) e utilizam xadrez em suas aulas. 1.Objetivos: La prevalencia del trastorno por uso de cannabis (TUC) es <10% en la población general, llegando a 27,1% en la esquizofrenia. El 64% de personas con primer episodio psicótico (PEP) consumen cannabis, el 30% de los cuales presentan TUC. Los pacientes con diagnosis de PEP tienen mayor probabilidad de presentar consumo de cannabis de alta potencia (THC > 10%). Los déficits cognitivos en pacientes con esquizofrenia (con o sin consumo de cannabis) son determinantes para su funcionamiento, y parecen estar presentes desde el PEP. Revisar el conocimiento actual acerca de la asociación entre TUC y los déficits cognitivos en personas con PEP. 2.Material y métodos: Selección de artículos científicos publicados en los últimos 6 años; recerca en bases de datos utilizando la combinación de términos MeSH: “cannabis use”, “first-episode psychosis”y “cognitive impairment”. 3.Resultados y conclusiones: Los estudios desarrollados se han centrado en la relación entre el consumo de cannabis y cognición en PEP, con la evaluación de funciones neurocognitivas a registrar mayor afección en la atención, memoria verbal y funciones executivas. Sin embargo, algunos resultados han sido contradictorios debido a fatores como: heterogeneidad de cuadros clínicos (hay estudios con un enfoque en psicosis en general, incluyendo psicosis afectivas, mientras que otros se centran específicamente en esquizofrenia o PEP); El cannabis presenta tetrahidrocanabinol (THC) y canabidiol (CBD) que pueden tener efetos opuestos en la cognición. El THC tiene un efeto prejudicial y hay evidencia de que el CBD puede mejorar la cognición. Son necesarios nuevos estudios para evaluar la asociación entre el consumo de cannabis y disfunción cognitiva. Sin embargo, las muestras deben tener un tamaño significativo, uniformidad diagnostica y deben ser controlados los fatores confundentes en las variables evaluadas. Así, deben ser estudiadas las características diferenciales entre cuadros clínicos aisladamente para que los resultados pueden ser verificados y replicados.

Introdução: Nos últimos anos, o transplante de células-tronco hematopoéticas (TCTH) apresentou-se como uma alternativa frente ao câncer hematológico, o que proporcionou melhor sobrevida aos pacientes acometidos por essas neoplasias. Contudo, é necessário ressaltar que esse tratamento não apresenta apenas benefícios, sendo, portanto, importante avaliar quais os prognósticos positivos para a vida desse paciente. Objetivos: Avaliar se houve prejuízo de cognição aos pacientes submetidos ao TCTH e os impactos que os tratamentos do câncer hematológico proporcionaram para qualidade de vida desses após 3 anos do transplante . Material e métodos: O estudo realizado foi observacional, analítico e longitudinal. A amostra não probabilística contemplou 55 participantes e os critérios de inclusão foram: adultos que possuíssem câncer hematológico e a submissão ao transplante células-tronco hematopoéticas. Foi utilizado o Questionário de Qualidade de Vida-Core 30 (QLQ-C30) versão 2.0 , além dos valores da escala de funcionamento cognitivo e de Qualidade de Vida Geral. Dessa análise de escores foi obtido o coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Para avaliar associações entre grupos (autólogos versus alogênicos), estágios e possível interação grupo-estágios, foi aplicado o Modelo Linear Misto Generalizado (GLMM), utilizando o software SPSS 20. Resultados: ao final do estudo, observou-se 5 perdas de seguimento e 28 óbitos. A qualidade de vida geral nos transplantes autólogos e alogênicos apresentou declínio na fase de pancitopenia (59,3 e 55,3, respectivamente). Houve comprometimento da função cognitiva no grupo autólogo no pós-transplante após dois anos (61,90) e observa-se correlação positiva (0,76) e significativa (p <0,04) entre o domínio cognitivo e a qualidade de vida no pós-transplante após dois anos . No grupo alogênico, houve correlação positiva (0,55) e significativa(p<0,00) a partir de 6 meses após o transplante, além de um comprometimento da função cognitiva após dois anos (74), na pancitopenia. Conclusão: Houve evidências que a qualidade de vida e a função cognitiva dos pacientes submetidos ao TCTH foram comprometidas em ambos os grupos (autólogos e alogênicos), havendo indícios de maior depressão e ansiedade nesses pacientes, o que requer um cuidado holístico e mais profundo por parte das equipes médicas.

Este estudo remete à criação e validação de uma FlexQuest: ferramenta que conjuga a tecnologia digital à Teoria da Flexibilidade Cognitiva, com a finalidade de promover uma aprendizagem significativa em estudantes da Educação Básica. Nesse sentido, os elementos promotores de flexibilização do conhecimento foram idealizados e configuraram uma FlexQuest com tema Água. Uma análise de mapas conceituais construídos pelos estudantes foi realizada para evidenciar uma aprendizagem flexível, significativa e crítica em curso, promovida por meio da utilização da FlexQuest Água. Os resultados mostram que a ferramenta promoveu tais níveis de aprendizagem.

El presente trabajo ofrece una reflexión sobre la aplicabilidad de la Psicoterapia Cognitiva Analítica (PCA) en pacientes con diagnóstico dual. Especialmente en ciertos grupos de pacientes, como por ejemplo aquellos que, junto con el uso de sustancias u otras conductas adictivas, presentan Trastorno Límite de la Personalidad (TLP), patología para la que la PCA ha mostrado una eficacia significativa. La literatura sobre PCA en relación a problemas de adicciones es muy limitada actualmente. En consecuencia, para este propósito se revisa su eficacia en otros trastornos mentales, especialmente TLP, para discutir su potencial utilidad en casos de patología duale en el contexto del tratamiento multimodal que problema requiere. La PCA es un enfoque teórico y práctico de naturaleza integradora, colaboradora, y basado en la evidencia. Se encuentra ampliamente extendido en el Sistema de Salud de Reino Unido. Destaca de este enfoque su perspectiva del Self en cuyo desarrollo se hace especial énfasis en aspectos relacionales que darán lugar a procedimientos de rol internalizados y automatizados que el sujeto es incapaz de revisar y cambiar. La PCA es sobre todo un modelo práctico y cuenta con sus propias herramientas terapéuticas, además de ser compatible e incorporar otras procedentes de la terapia cognitivo conductual. La PCA ha mostrado tan eficaz como la terapia cognitivo conductual en el tratamiento de trastornos de ansiedad y depresión, aplicada tanto de forma individual como grupal. La PCA combinada con Terapia Cognitivo Conductual ha mostrado ser eficaz como tratamiento del alcoholismo. Ha mostrado ser eficaz en el tratamiento del TLP en población adulta y adolescente. El TLP es el trastorno de personalidad que más frecuentemente presenta un diagnóstico dual, por lo que podría resultar potencialmente una herramienta muy útil para incorporar en el tratamiento de pacientes duales, al menos combinando sus propias herramientas con las técnicas cognitivo conductuales.

InnovaciónSe presenta un nuevo procedimiento de simulación clínica en línea, síncrona a través de internet, en la que los alumnos de ciencias de la salud, situados en remoto dirigen la acción que se desarrolla en el centro de simulación, mediante la interposición de replicantes presentes en el escenario (avatares humanos), que actúan como sus propias manos y oídos, formando un binomio avatar-alumno; tras finalizar la sesión clínica se realiza un debriefing, para favorecer el aprendizaje significativo.2. Mejoras de la innovación docenteSe analizan distintas modalidades de telesimulación, y se propugna que la simulación con avatares humanos facilita el desarrollo cognitivo, afectivo y psicomotor, el trabajo en equipo, la interacción social, y es capaz de crear una comunidad de investigación con presencia cognitiva, social y docente.3. ResultadosSe presentan los resultados preliminares de una encuesta de opinión cumplimentada por 36 participantes tras atender una sesión de simulación clínica en línea con avatares humanos y su adaptación a diferentes modelos de evaluación.4. ConclusionesEsta innovación constituye un nuevo procedimiento de simulación clínica en línea, que contribuye a mejorar la formación médico-sanitaria. Se propone continuar la investigación científica.

El objetivo principal de este trabajo fue comprobar los efectos cognitivos beneficiosos en pacientes con TRS tras la aplicación de "Trisquel", un programa de intervención en formato de juego de mesa. El tamaño muestra fue de 101 personas. El grupo experimental realizó sesiones estructuradas dos veces por semana durante tres meses, mientras que el grupo de control realizó actividades terapéuticas convencionales con la misma frecuencia y duración. Se realizaron pruebas neuropsicológicas a ambos grupos antes y después de la intervención. Después de los tres meses de intervención el grupo experimental mostró las siguientes mejoras estadísticamente significativas para las subpruebas del WAIS-III: clave numérica, búsqueda de símbolos, aritmética, dígitos directos, dígitos inversos, dígitos totales, letras-números en el índice de velocidad de procesamiento y en el índice de memoria de trabajo. En cuanto a las pruebas STROOP, se observaron progresos estadísticamente significativos en las subpruebas de fluidez fonética letra P, fluidez fonética letra M, fluidez fonética letra R, lectura de palabras y subpruebas de palabras-color. El grupo de control sólo obtuvo mejoras en las subpruebas WAIS-III de aritmética, letras-números y en el índice de memoria de trabajo. Los resultados de este estudio confirman que "Trisquel" es un programa de intervención eficaz para las personas diagnosticadas de SRD, consiguiendo mejoras en la velocidad de procesamiento (psicomotriz y de lectura), en los subprocesos atencionales (focalizados y sostenidos) y en las funciones ejecutivas (actualización e inhibición). Es un programa de intervención en formato de juego de mesa que genera un contexto terapéutico motivador que induzca mejoras en el rendimiento cognitivo-ejecutivo, la percepción de la salud, la sintomatología percibida. Este trabajo demuestra este programa puede mejorar el rendimiento cognitivo-ejecutivo de pacientes con deterioro cognitivo en tratamiento en centros de atención a personas con trastornos relacionados con sustancias.

La práctica de laboratorio de psicofisiología es una actividad complementaria a la conceptualización teórica desarrollada en el aula, incorporando recursos didácticos para el desarrollo de competencias generales y específicas para un proceso académico significativo, el cual permite a los estudiantes participar activamente en la construcción de su propio conocimiento, en un contexto experiencial, de descubrimiento e investigación. Los ambientes prácticos de aprendizaje (APA) motivan al estudiante a la investigación científica y potencian habilidades de observación, identificación, comparación, análisis y discusión. En esta guía, se incluyen contenidos teóricos que facilitan al estudiante la preparación del conocimiento para el desarrollo práctico en el laboratorio. Adicionalmente, esta guía dispone de actividades dinámicas de estudio en grupos de trabajo para mejorar su comprensión. Incluye parámetros claves para la presentación del informe del desarrollo de la actividad práctica. Esta guía práctica corresponde a uno de los componentes desarrollados en el curso de Neurociencia Cognitiva y del Comportamiento para los estudiantes de segundo semestre de Psicología.

En el presente documento se analiza la brecha de género en ingresos laborales en 18 países de América Latina y el Caribe. Se observa que existe una brecha de ingresos significativa en el ingreso por hora entre hombres y mujeres en la mayor parte de los países de la región. El estudio encuentra que las mujeres deberían presentar ingresos por hora más altos que los hombres, considerando el nivel educativo, los sectores de la economía en los que trabajan, las ocupaciones que desempeñan, la zona en la que viven y sus características personales. Esto significa que la diferencia en los ingresos, que existe en la región a favor de los hombres, se debe a factores que no están explicados por las variables que se utilizaron en el estudio, sino por características no observables relacionadas con sesgos de género (comúnmente conocidos como discriminación) que se manifiestan en legislaciones inadecuadas, sesgos cognitivos, discriminación o costos laboral relacionados con el cuidado de los hijos que no se visibilizan en la sociedad. Para el análisis se utilizan como insumos las Encuestas de Hogares armonizadas por el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), y se presentan dos modelos para la estimación de la brecha de ingresos laborales, las descomposiciones Blinder-Oaxaca y Nopo.

Según estimaciones de Naciones Unidas, en los próximos 30 años, el número de personas mayores de 65 años se doblará de 750 millones actuales a más de 1.500 millones. Globalmente, en 2050 el porcentaje de personas mayores de 65 años pasará del 9,3% al 16% de la población. En todo el mundo se experimentará este crecimiento, pero es América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) la región que más rápidamente envejece y donde se concentrará el mayor aumento de la población de más de 65 años que pasará, en tres décadas, de representar el 9% al 19% de la población. El envejecimiento y la diversidad van unidos. Algunas personas envejecen manteniéndose en forma, conservan plena movilidad y utilizan todo tipo de herramientas digitales hasta el final de sus días. Otras personas, en cambio, se enfrentan a nuevos retos a medida que envejecen como puede ser una menor movilidad, una reducción significativa de ingresos, pérdidas sensoriales o deterioro cognitivo. Sin obviar esa diversidad, lo cierto es que todos seguimos requiriendo productos y servicios financieros que se adapten a las nuevas necesidades que vamos encontrando a medida que vamos envejeciendo. Sin embargo, es cada vez más evidente que hay un riesgo de “exclusión financiera” de las personas mayores por la brecha digital y por la falta de productos o servicios pensados en sus demandas particulares. Esta publicación pretende compartir algunas iniciativas en el sector financiero para adaptarse al envejecimiento. Diseminar con mayor detalle esas iniciativas servirá para alentar a otras entidades financieras a desarrollar soluciones que permitan superar la “no exclusión financiera” de las personas mayores. Para los proveedores de servicios financieros de la región es importante centrarse en las necesidades financieras para satisfacer sus demandas básicas, reducir el fraude y proyectarse como una entidad comprometida con la inclusión financiera de todos los clientes. Ser una entidad financiera orientada a las necesidades de las personas mayores implica pensar en el tipo de atención que se va a prestar, el diseño físico de las oficinas, la oferta de productos y servicios, y la manera general en la que una entidad financiera se percibe a sí misma en relación con las personas mayores. Adaptarse a las necesidades y demandas específicas de las personas mayores puede ser un reto para las entidades financieras, pero puede representar también una gran oportunidad de negocio.
