Résumé :
As the gateway to the beaches of Daytona Beach, Florida, the new Broadway Bridge will be a signature bridge for the community. Mosaic tile murals up to 3 m in height will be incorporated around the columns of the new bridge, as will mosaic panels along the sidewalk handrail. The bridge will also feature ornamental handrail and light fixtures with aesthetic lighting that will display this high-profile structure to the surrounding skyline of Daytona Beach. Additional plantings and fountains will be provided with a grand architectural entrance welcoming visitors to Daytona Beach and onto this signature bridge. The glass tile mosaic art will feature manatees, dolphins, and other nature scenes with species endemic to Florida. Special reviews and approval of the art scenes will be done by the architect of record before fabrication of the large pieces. The Broadway Bridge replacement is being constructed with twin, precast, segmental concrete bridges erected by balanced cantilever construction with an overhead gantry system. The construction includes a cast-in-place, posttensioned flat-slab section on the west end. Each bridge will have a 20-m vertical clearance over the 38-m-wide navigational channel. The bridges will be approximately 918 m in length, with spans varying from 30 to 80 m. The span length variation with structure height will add to the overall aesthetic features of this signature bridge. Graceful lines developed by the segmental design and the additional architectural features provided by the mosaic inlays, lighting, plantings, and fountain make the Broadway Bridge unique and a beautiful addition to the Daytona Beach area.

Résumé :
In this paper, we consider generalizations of the Alexander polynomial and signature of 2-bridge knots by considering the Gordon–Litherland bilinear forms associated with essential state surfaces of the 2-bridge knots. We show that the resulting invariants are well-defined and explore properties of these invariants. Finally, we realize the boundary slopes of essential surfaces as differences of signatures of the knot.

Résumé :
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to evaluate various reliability measures like reliability, expected lifetime (mean time to failure), signature reliability and compare networks based on the different flows.Design/methodology/approachThe reliability characteristics of complex bridge networks have been evaluated using different algorithms with the help of universal generating function (UGF). Further, the signature reliability of the considered networks has been determined using Owen’s method.FindingsThe present paper proposes an efficient algorithm to compute the reliability indices of complex bridge networks having i.i.d. lifetime components (nodes, edges) with the help of UGF and Owen’s method. This study reveals that a slight change in the complex bridge network affects the reliability significantly. Finally, by the reliability structure function, proposed algorithms are used to find the signature and MTTF. From signature, we have determined the different failure probabilities corresponding to edges of the network.Originality/valueIn this work, we have evaluated reliability characteristics and signature reliability of the complex bridge networks using UGF method and Owen’s method respectively unlike done in the past.

Résumé :
Rumor has it that that the Turks crossed the Marmara Sea on rafts. The Ottoman Empire, which set out from Gallipoli and became a state first and then an empire; reached the Balkan and Europe through bridges. Every bridge built over the huge rivers Ottomans crossed slowly became a signature of that region or city. Spectacular stone bridges, which are both art and aesthetic monuments and meet the transportation needs of the army, were built on the rivers from the capital to the last point Empire reached. Many bridges, especially the Mostar Bridge, Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, Stone Bridge in Skopje, Bridge over Maritsa in Edirne, Bridges over the Tunca and the Uzunköprü (Long Bridge), which were built on the great Balkan rivers, symbols of abundance and plenitude, have been the subject of poems, shehrengiz and historical poems of classical poets, and also prose works and travel books. through various dreams and imaginations, these bridges are from time to time places where lovers go out for an evening stroll and meet, and sometimes through similes and metaphors compared to lover’s body, rainbow, Milky way, or the Sirat Bridge. These bridges are so ostentatious and appear as a great kemend that connects two mountains. The stone bridges built on the Balkan rivers from Edirne to Mostar that have poems written about them will be determined and interpreted in our article.

Comparing violins requires competence and involves both subjective and objective evaluations. In this manuscript, vibration tests were performed on a set of 25 violins, both historical and new. The resulting bridge admittances were modeled in the low and mid-frequency ranges through a set of objective features. Once projected into the new representation, the bridge admittances of three historical violins made by Stradivari and a famous reproduction revealed high similarity. PCA highlighted the importance of signature mode frequencies, bridge hill behavior, and signature mode amplitudes in distinguishing different violins.

Résumé :
To deal with an increasing demand in transportation, trains are made longer and faster. Higher speeds imply higher impacts on bridges. Therefore, structures have to be designed to resist these new constraints. The Eurocode (2002) introduced additional checks for the design of high-speed railway bridges. Among them, the maximum vertical deck acceleration criterion often determines alone the design of the structure. Tests on shake table brought to the conclusion that vertical bridge deck acceleration should never exceed 3.5 m/s2 for ballasted tracks. This master thesis investigates the optimization of cross section parameters of single-track simply supported and double-span bridges based on the limit of the maximum vertical deck acceleration criterion. The first natural frequency is considered as a proof of the feasibility of the structure. The optimization is carried out through MATLAB for both types of bridges. The deck acceleration of simply supported bridges is analytically calculated using the Train Signature (ERRI D214 1999) in MATLAB. The dynamic calculations of double-span bridges are implemented through the finite element software ABAQUS. The implemented programs have been verified by comparison to values of simple cases found in the literature. Structures are tested under the influence of the ten HSLM-A trains of the Eurocode running at speeds between 150 km/h and 350 km/h. Optimization algorithms are presented and compared in this study but their applicability in such context is questioned. Indeed, as the problem contains several suitable minima, the algorithms, which end in one solution, are not adapted. To overtake this difficulty, a scanning of the interesting zone is advised. However, the latter is very time consuming, even more if the finite element analysis is used. Suggestions to decrease analysis time are presented in this report. Single span composite bridges with a span longer than 20 m appeared to be impossible to optimize within the objectives defined in this work (i.e. considering limits of deck acceleration and first natural frequency), which draws doubts about their suitability for high-speed railways. Nevertheless, simply supported bridges made of concrete seem more adapted for high-speed railways and their optimized parameters are presented in this work. Optimized parameters for double-span concrete bridges are also presented.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT The most widely accepted concept of sustainability as defined during the Bruntland Commission in 1987 is “meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. The goals of providing sustainable features in the design and construction of transportation corridor in an Urban Environment are to minimise impacts on the environmental resources, consumption of material resources, energy consumption, encourage the use of new and innovative approaches, enhance the historic, scenic and aesthetic context and integrate into the community in a way that helps to preserve and enhance community life, encourage community involvement in the transportation planning process, encourage integration of non-motorized means of transportation and finally find a balance between what is important to the community, to the natural environment and is economically sound. These 3 Parameters i.e. social, economic and environmental are most commonly accepted as three pillars of sustainability. In this research, Sustainability indicators of a transportation corridor during construction in an urban environment have been identified and detailed out. The research has been made on a Signature Bridge being constructed by DTTDC and Barapulla elevated corridor project undertaken by PWD. During the research study made at both sites in the midst of the construction period, it was identified that Sustainability of these transportation corridors during the construction stage is just not limited to three Pillars, but in actually much beyond that. Every activity or any Project is to be looked into right perspective to understand its relevance to all those it matters. Transportation Corridor is a field which, during its operational stage, can affect the life in every area varying from education sector, all kinds of commercial activities, availing of medical amenities or say movement of the public at large for any purpose they wish. It is not only the operation stage, but the construction stage also makes an impact on the residents living nearby as well as on the commuters passing through the corridor on the diverted route. Both these members of society are subjected to Air Pollution, Noise Pollution, water pollution, and increase in travel time besides Health and Safety concerns. Environment faces 2 | P a g e irreversible degradation besides other adverse impacts on the number of directly or indirectly related issues. Various Sustainability Indicators during the construction stage as identified for an elevated transportation corridor and thereafter classified under various categories is covered in this research. A comparative study on the above mentioned sites, through construction under identical urban environment, was carried out to evaluate the sustainability of these sites, using fuzzy logic, so that the site more sustainable based on identified sustainability indicators is known. Methodology and result of the study are also discussed in this research.

Résumé :
AbstractWith the rapid development of the blockchain, smart contract technology has been widely applied. The number of smart contracts has grown at a high rate and nearly at an average of thousands per day. However, the correctness and security of the smart contract itself are facing huge problems. The well-known DAO vulnerability, and Parity multi-signature wallet’ vulnerabilities have leaded to a hundreds of millions dollars loss, and they are both caused by the security problems of smart contracts. Once the smart contract vulnerability is exploited, it is very likely to bring the loss of cryptocurrencies, the disorder of the financial order and other catastrophic consequences. Therefore the security of smart contracts is imminent. This project has designed and implemented a vulnerability detection system of Ethereum smart contract. The system uses the assembly instruction sequences of the smart contract to generate the control flow graph, then performs symbolic execution and vulnerability constraint solving over the control flow. The system can detect some common types of vulnerabilities, such as the integer overflow and underflow vulnerability, reentry vulnerability and unchecked call return value vulnerability. It has a high accuracy of detection result, and gives support for export vulnerability report.

Résumé :
<p>To relief the heavily congested north-eastern access to the metropolis of Delhi a new eight-lane bridge across the Yamuna river was required. The new bridge shall not only resolve the traffic problem but in a holistic approach become a new landmark for the northern part of Delhi and the seed of a new recreational area along the cleaned and recultivated Yamuna shores.</p><p>A single-pylon cable-stayed bridge now crosses the Yamuna river bed with a main span of 250 m to leave ample space for the future lake created here. The inverted Y-shaped pylon with a height of 150 m is leaning backwards to counterbalance the weight of the composite deck above the river. Also, the two cable planes of the main span are merged in the pylon to a central cable plane that leads to the backstay anchorages. The outcome was a uniquely shaped, origami-like pylon that is topped by a glass tip to act as a beacon at night.</p><p>The combination of a robust composite concrete deck with a prefabricated steel pylon made such a design feasible in the seismic area of Delhi. The bridge is equipped with an advanced monitoring system to ensure its anticipated durability into the next century.</p>

<p>This bridge is outstanding and so will be its Structural health Monitoring. Designed and installed by Sixense upon the specification of the Client, the system will manage more than 1000 sensors. This monitoring architecture will allow to measure any external event happening on the bridge such as strong, wind, earthquake, lightning, heavy traffic. It will also record all the reaction behavior of the structure such as temperature, displacement, vibration, fatigue stresses. Amongst all the recorded data, dynamic record of such a slender structure is key. The acquisition system provided by Sixense will allow to record, compute, sample, analyses, store and analyse a tremendous quantity of data from all kind of mechanical beaviour of the structure. It will for instance allow rainflow treatment of the stress of the orthotropic slab in order to survey and prevent fatigue failure.</p><p>But more than simply recording data for visualization and immediate maintenance, the system provided by Sixense will also allow to perform predictive computation of the future behavior of the infrastructure : regression analysis from the available data combined with tuneable environment parameters (temperature, traffic), will allow the owner of the bride to anticipate the behavior of the bridge and plan the maintenance operation far in advance out of critical service activity phases. This will increase the safety of the bridge, save money for the owner and allow this signature bridge to last for a very long time.</p>

<p>The New Storstrøm Bridge in Denmark includes a signature main bridge located centrally at the bridge crossing, spanning over two ship navigation channels as a cable-stayed bridge. It spans over 2 x 160 m with a single, architecturally shaped pylon with an integral, monolithic connection centrally between the deck and the pylon. The central pylon provides vertical support to the deck through the stay cables and lower pylon, but also acts structurally as the point of longitudinal fixity for one of the three frames of the bridge. The paper will describe the key design challenges for the structural design of the cable-stayed bridge of the New Storstrøm Bridge, including a discussion on the pylon design, stay cables, stay anchorage concepts and the bridge structural system.</p>

<p>Time dependent deterioration of bridge decks, directly subjected to: repeated abrasive loading from passing vehicles; the elements of weather; and winter maintenance agents, is the key challenge to achieving a 200 Year Bridge Design. In-service performance and laboratory tests over the past several decades have demonstrated that the steel orthotropic deck is the only system likely to accomplish this goal. Nevertheless, implementation of this deck system has been mostly limited to long span signature bridges, movable bridges, and temporary structures. The primary impediments to more wider application of orthotropic decks are lack of robust standards, increased efforts required for advanced analysis and design, relatively high initial cost owing to intensive fabrication, and most importantly due to concerns regarding higher possibility of in-service fatigue cracking from a large number of welded connections. This manuscript presents a standard deck design, developed based on the lessons learnt from a number of orthotropic bridge decks implemented in the greater New York region and the knowledgebase accumulated over the years from research and service performance of this deck around the world, which can be widely implemented as a prefabricated modular system towards durable, sustainable and life-cycle cost-effective design of the 200 Year Bridge.</p>

Résumé :
<p>The Cherry St North, Commissioners St, and Cherry St South bridges are a series of four signature steel tied arch bridges located in Toronto, Canada. The bridges are being constructed over the Keating Channel and a new extension of the Don River. The arch legs of the bridges are composed of non-prismatic open sections using curved plates. The centre domes at the tops of the arches are also composed of open steel plate sections with plates in double curvature. Steel plate hanger from the arches to the closed steel box tie girders serve to transfer the superstructure gravity loads to the arches. The in-plane and out-of-plane structural stability of the non-prismatic open section arch legs required detailed consideration during design. This paper discusses the various approaches used to analyse and design the arch legs, including the use of approximate methods.</p>

Résumé :
<p>The deteriorating condition and associated high maintenance costs of the existing Champlain Bridge prompted the accelerated need for its replacement. Part of the largest infrastructure project currently underway in North America, the Samuel De Champlain Bridge is a viaduct with a signature cable-stayed bridge. This life-line structure was designed to ensure 125 years of service life. The design-build team employed innovative pre- casting, modular segments, and non-traditional erection techniques and sequencing to meet the fast-track project schedule.</p>
