AbstractThe Language Choice of A Multilingual Community in Sampit City. This study aims to describe the form of language choice of multiethnic communities in Sampit City in the realm of family, friendship, religion, education, and employment, and the factors that influence the language choice of multiethnic communities in Sampit City. This study used qualitative approach with field research. The method that was used in this study was descriptive method. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are various languages that coexist in a multilingual community in Sampit, namely Indonesian, Dayak, Banjar, Javanese, Maduranese, Bima, Batak, and Serawai. The dominant language used besides Indonesian is Banjar, because it is considered to have the highest prestige, so it is often chosen in communication. Multilingual people in Sampit are able to use language for the purpose of communication or polyglossia, and are able to distinguish between high and low varieties or diglossia. The choice of language made by the multilingual community in Sampit is influenced by the factors of people (participants), topics and situations.Keywords: language choice, speech community, multilingual.AbstrakPilihan Bahasa Masyarakat Multilingual di Kota Sampit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan wujud pilihan bahasa masyarakat multilingual di Kota Sampit pada ranah keluarga, kekariban, agama, pendidikan, dan lapangan kerja, dan faktor yang memengaruhi pilihan bahasa masyarakat multilingual di Kota Sampit. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian lapangan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat berbagai bahasa yang hidup berdampingan di tengah masyarakat multilingual di Kota Sampit, yaitu bahasa Indonesia, bahasa Dayak, bahasa Banjar, bahasa Jawa, bahasa madura, bahasa Bima, bahasa Batak, dan Serawai. Bahasa yang dominan digunakan selain bahasa Indonesia adalah bahasa Banjar, karena dianggap memiliki prestise tertinggi, sehingga sering dipilih dalam komunikasi. Masyarakat multilingual di Kota Sampit mampu menggunakan bahasa dengan tujuan komunikasi atau poliglosia, dan mampu membedakan ragam tinggi dan ragam rendah atau diglosia. Tanah Mas is one of the areas in Sampit that the Sampit Dayak and Madurese Muslim communities inhabit. They live side by side, peacefully exchanging culture and language. This area's uniqueness needs to be explored further so that it can become a good practice for mitigating conflicts that often occur in Indonesia. This study explores the cultural values developed, the processes of exchange and cultural literacy, and the cultural literacy methods used in Tanah Mas. The research was conducted using qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach. The research was conducted for two months. The research locus was Tanah Mas Village, Baamang Sampit District. The study results show that cultural literacy is carried out in the family, community, and leaders. Parents provide examples and advice in the family to live well together and get along with anyone regardless of ethnicity. Community leaders provide examples and advice to respect each other, help each other, and cooperate reasonably with each other. Social literacy is performed by performing arts conveying messages of peace and moral teachings. In addition, the community mingles and cooperates in various activities. Information exchange is carried out through daily activities such as community interaction, traditional events such as weddings, religious events such as the Prophet's birthday or isra' mi'rāj, and artistic activities such as art performances.

With the relatively low habit of reading, Indonesia created the urgent condition. The same problem actually happen in Universitas Muhammadiyah Sampit, especially in English educcation study program.Remebering how crucial reading in development of Language, the concrete way out deriving the will of reading of students is needed. One of the way out in UMSA bring the bright perspectively in both side, even students and lecturer in the class. This study aims to find out Description of Using MALL in the instructional process. The focus of this study is the extensive reading lecture in English Education Study Program in UMSA. The researchers use a type of qualitative research which is Case Study. Then, the instruments of this study were Interview and Documentation. Primary data were collected merely through interview; however, it has been taken deeply on the collecting data. The secondary data in this study are sources related to the problems in the object of this paper. The implementation of the MALL in this study was using Wattpad mobile apps as teaching media. Findings consists of the use, the features and the assessment of Wattpad as the learning medium in the class. The reason the supporting lecturer chose to use Wattpad was based on the needs of students in the Extensive Reading class. With Wattpad students can explore various uploaded literary works concluding on building and creating reading materials independently. In addition, students can collaborate with other students in building their knowledge and solving problems together.

This article discusses the successful methods used in English speaking classroom at Kedai Inggris Coffee Shop Sampit, a coursework taught by Andra Fakhrian. Thereof, the purpose of this research is to observe and learn the journey of the teacher got the admission and brought the students to be distinguished and fluent in performing English. A descriptive qualitative method and autoethnography approach are the tools to draw the analysis as this research is a self-study, that the analysis is elaborated in the form of narrative. Throughout the results of Autoethnography description, moreover, this article has found: 1) a role play model is the key to the technique used in the classroom, 2) code switching and mixing are often got through in order to build the engagement between teacher and students, yet it results the clear understanding towards the material.�

Fars dili samitlərinin bir-biri ilə əvəzlənmələri həm səs tellərinin iştirakına görə, həm də əmələgəlmə yerlərinə - artikulyasiyaya görə hər biri 3 bölüm daxilində tədqiq edilmişdir. Tədqiqatdan aydın olmuşdur ki, karlıq-cingiltililik, eləcə də əmələ gəlmə üsuluna görə samit səslər tələffüzü asanlaşdırmaq üçün öz xarakterlərini dəyişir, bir-biri ilə əvəzlənirlər. Tədqiqat boyu “Xəmsə”də işlənən iki fakültativ variantın hansı birinin Nizami dövründə daha işlək olduğu da imkan daxilində araşdırılmışdır. Gradations of Persian consonants were studied in 3 parts, each according to the participation of vocal cords, places of formation, and articulation. It became clear from the research that consonant sounds change their character and replace each other in order to facilitate pronunciation due to Voiceless -Voiced, as well as the way of formation. During the research, which of the two facultative options used in "Khamsa" was more effective during the Nizami period was investigated as far as possible. The rapid growth of cultural consumption has led to a nearly seamless generation of hyperrealities. This generation is accentuated through the swift and inundated barrage of advertisements that have permeated all modes of expression in mainstream media. This article explores cultural dilution in the context of the convergence of art, advertising, and hyperrealities. Drawing on a textual analysis of Samit Basu's novel ‘Chosen Spirits’(2020), Baudrillard’s notions of hyperreality espoused in ‘Simulacra and Simulation’(1994), and a close study of influencer advertising and its effects, this study dissects the intricate relationship between art and commerce and its subsequent implications for cultural significance. The paper argues that blending art and advertising creates a continuous flow of hyperrealities, eventually diluting the represented culture. This process leads to the convergence of the once distinct realms of art, culture, and commerce, wherein culture becomes a consumable object. Advertising leeches, dilutes, and duplicates significant elements from its source, further blurring the boundaries between the two domains. The symbiotic relationship between advertising, culture and consumption is catalysed by technology. Consequently, the gormandised culture's value diminishes, and the communication gap between producers and consumers widens. In addition to transforming the nature of artistic expression, it impacts the authenticity and integrity of cultural production. The complex dynamics that shape contemporary cultural landscapes are unveiled by analysing how advertising and hyperrealities intertwine with art and culture. This subsequently invites critical reflection upon the implications of cultural dilution, the commodification of art, and the role of technology in reshaping cultural identities.

Purpose Stakeholder theory research identifies changes in language as one possible mechanism to overcome the deficiencies of current accounting practices with regard to social aspects. This study aims to examine the effects of the terms used for specific accounts on company internal decision-making, drawing on the example of “value creation accounting”. Design/methodology/approach The study uses a survey based-experiment to analyze the effects of terms used for specific accounts on decision-making, with a focus on social aspects (in particular expenditures for staff) in cost reduction and expenditure decisions. Findings The findings indicate that wordings, which more closely relate to value creation than to costs, decrease cost reductions and increase the priority ascribed to the social aspect of reducing staff costs in times of financial shortage. The effects of terms used on cost reductions are stronger among female decision makers. Practical implications The analysis suggests that conventional accounting language best suits organizations that aim at incentivizing decision makers to primarily cut costs. By contrast, if an organization follows an approach that puts importance on social aspects in times of financial shortage and on not doing too sharp cost reductions, value creation-oriented language is the more effective approach. Social implications The study suggests that the specific terminology used for accounts should be chosen more carefully and with awareness for the possible effects on cost reduction decisions as well as on social consequences. Originality/value This study contributes to a better understanding of the relevance of language in accounting. It suggests that the terms used for accounts should be chosen purposefully because of their far-reaching potential consequences for stakeholders as well as for the organization.

Names constitute a key component of the cultural heritage of any region. Though geographically, culturally and linguistically apart, Estonia and Zambia share some elements and motivations in naming. Zambia’s British colonial experience and Estonia’s Danish, German, Polish, Swedish and Russian/ Soviet influence in the past made significant changes to personal and place names in both regions. Following independence, both states made strides in the indigenisation of names for promoting local heritage and national identity. Zambia predominantly focused on changing the names of some towns, and of the country (from Northern Rhodesia to Zambia). On the other hand, the Estonian onomastic experience has been more comprehensive – regulating both personal and place names, enacting corresponding laws and maintaining the Institute of the Estonian Language to oversee language and name planning, among other responsibilities. Kokkuvõte. Osward Chanda ja Peeter Päll: Nimekorraldus Sambias ja Eestis: võrdlev analüüs. Artikkel vaatleb Sambia ja Eesti nimesituatsiooni erinevusi ja sarnasusi. Sambia on mitmekeelne maa, ametikeel on inglise; Eesti on ametlikult ükskeelne maa, praktikas käibivad eesti keele kõrval ka vene ja inglise keel. Sambia isikunimedes on perekonnanimed valdavalt kohalikku päritolu, eesnimed enamjaolt euroopalikud; kohanimed on valdavalt ühekordsed. Sambias ei ole erinevalt Eestist nimeseadusi isiku- ja kohanimede reguleerimiseks. Ühine on mõlema maa puhul asjaolu, et ajaloos on varem domineerinud võõrvõimud, mis on jätnud jälje nimepilti. Kui proovida sõnastada universaalseid nimekorralduspõhimõtteid, siis võiksid need olla 1) nimede kui kultuuripärandi kaitse; 2) kohalike nimekujude eelistamine; 3) nimede keeleline korrektsus, 4) oma kultuuriidentiteedi hoidmine, 5) nimede pragmaatiliste aspektide (eristatavus, nimeinfo kättesaadavus jm) arvestamine.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh penggunaan bahasa anak-anak di desa Hilimaera yang cenderung mencampurkan antara bahasa daerah Nias dengan bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk-bentuk kalimat dan fungsi kalimat pada pemerolehan bahasa anak usia 4-5 tahun. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah ujaran anak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti menyiapkan alat rekam, alat tulis dan buku, mendatangi tempat anak-anak yang sedang berbicara sambil merekam. Teknik analisis data meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan tiga bentuk kalimat yang digunakan berdasarkan bentuk sintaksisnya yakni kalimat berita (deklaratif), kalimat tanya (interogatif) dan kalimat perintah (imperatif). The Prussian settlements contain archaeological information that can be enriched with data from folk legends about these fortified settlements. In the proposed article, several legends of Sambia (the Kaliningrad peninsula of the Kaliningrad region) are selected, the analysis of which allowed us to draw the following conclusions: in the names of the settlements there are rudiments of the Prussian language, which disappeared from local use in the beginning of the 18th century . In the array of legends about the Prussian settlements, some of which arose already in the 17th century, there are several sorts / types of texts. They have both local, Prussian, and external, Germanic origin. Some of the legends of Sambia are an echo of finds made not earlier than the time of the order on the sites of settlements or near them (treasures, individual valuable artifacts, sacrificial stones, etc.). Indirectly, this indicates that the authors of the legends and their narrators reported that the settlements were once the habitats of the local population. All of the above allows us to consider the legends about the Prussian settlements of Sambia as a special, but, nevertheless, interesting and important source of the settlement history of the center of the Prussian tribal area.

In the holy book, Bhagavadgita stated two trends affect the human character, the properties of all devata's (daivi sampat) and properties of giant (asuri sampat). Both of these trends are directly or indirectly will shape human character. The rapid development of science and technology these days have influenced the characters of the children, who are faced with heavy challenges. Teaching children should be then directed towards strenghtening their morals. Regarding that, it needs a neo-traditional norm that is based on the traditional origins. The Hindu education could become the normative agent that builds any modern Indonesian characters through their local wisdoms that are motivative to the children. On the instrumental level, the primary values to be taught are autonomy, dignity, creativity, morality, pride, and sense of aesthetics, and democracy awareness. They should preserve the local cultural heritage, including the languages and the arts, while adapting the global trend. As the educators, the teachers at schools as well as the parents at homes must be the role models whose responsibilities and disciplines are followed

The study of images begins to flourish because of the ubiquity of visual representations in communication. A visual medium communicates across ages and languages. Each artifact, like strokes, colours and gestures, has its specific meaning that highlights human behaviour. In stories, animals in human form delight and capture the audiences’ attention. The selection of animals and their projected ways reflects more than what is expressed directly in the text. As a result, anthropomorphism (nonhuman entities that talk and act like human) is widely used as a communicative tool to insist on sensitive themes. Simultaneously, there is a belief that anthropomorphism misattributed human-like abilities to nonhuman which can risk the people’s approach towards nonhuman. This paper identifies some of the degrees of anthropomorphism noted in Indian visual narratives from Malik’s Munnu: A Boy from Kashmir, Gupta and Rastogi’s Chhotu: A Tale of Partition and Love, Amar Chitra Katha’s Animal Tales from India, Samhita Arni’s Sita’s Ramayana, Amruta Patil’s Aranyaka: Book of the Forest and Samit Basu’s Tall Tales of Vishnu Sharma: Panchatantra. The study researches the role and importance of anthropomorphism in visual narratives.

Purpose This paper aims to study the impact of readability of corporate social responsibility (CSR) information on its credibility as perceived by generalist versus specialist readers. It is hypothesized that the readability-credibility effect will be contingent on reader specialization. Design/methodology/approach To test the hypothesis, a quasi-experiment with a 2 (readability) × 2 (reader specialization) design was conducted. Findings Overall, the results lead to the conclusion that using plain language in CSR disclosures may be beneficial for their credibility as perceived by generalist readers thanks to their higher perceived truthfulness (one specific sub-dimension of credibility). Specialist readers’ perceived credibility, on the other hand, is not influenced by the enhanced readability resulting from plain language. Research limitations/implications Student participants were used. The results may not be generalizable to practitioners with different levels of exposure to, familiarity with, and understanding of CSR disclosures. Practical implications Given the lack of credibility of CSR disclosures, insight into perceived credibility antecedents is important. This study may be considered as a first step toward informing reporting standards regarding the inclusion of more detailed guidance on how corporations should formulate their CSR information to increase its perceived credibility. Originality/value The results suggest that enhanced readability may improve the potential of CSR reports as legitimacy tools for generalist readers. The direct examination of readers complements prior studies on CSR reporting quality and the language used in CSR disclosures.

Foreign language skills are needed to be able to compete internationally, so the role of English in education is expected to improve the quality of human resources as one of the pillars of education. Improving the quality of human resources is meant to start earlier, namely for the elementary school students. The Community Service (PkM) activities at elementary schools in central Maluku aims to (a) find out students' motivation in learning English, and (b) find out English knowledge at the elementary school level at the level of words and themes that become students' interest in learning. The results of PkM activities by applying learning while playing methods: word play, short sentences, and sentence dictation (Indonesian sentences, written in English and vice versa) indicate that the majority of students have motivation in learning English, it can be proven through the active role of students in the teaching and learning process and students' enthusiasm in answering questions given by the teacher. While student’s knowledge of English shows that the number of students who could fill in the words in the table according to the number given (50 words in 15-20 minutes) was very minimum (4 pairs from a total of 20 pairs or 20%). Further, students could write words with varied topics/themes. The most popular topics were animals (animals) and colors (colors), and also students were able to write simple Indonesian sentences into English or vice versa.

Articulatory phonetics is a linguistic study that focuses on the aspects of sound produced through human speech organs. Without the human speech organ, language sounds cannot be produced. Physiological Aspects/Physiological aspects known as articulatory and auditory phonetics explain how the organs of the human body function or play a role in producing language sounds and how sounds are received by the auditory sensory apparatus. The study method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with library research as the type of research. هدفت الدراسة إلى قياس أثر البرنامج التدريبي في تنمية مهارات اللغة البراغماتية عند الأطفال ذوي اضطراب طيف التوحّد في الأردن، وقد تكونت عينة الدراسة من (26) طفلًا من ذوي اضطراب طيف التوحّد، تراوحت أعمارهم بين (5-10) سنوات، ووُزِّعوا عشوائيًّا إلى مجموعتين؛ تجريبية وضابطة، بالتساوي. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة تم إعداد مقياسين: مقياس استخدام مهارات اللغة البراغماتية لدى أطفال اضطراب طيف التوحّد، وبرنامج للتدريب على تنمية مهارات اللغة البراغماتية حيث تناول (6) أبعاد: العلاقات الاجتماعية، والاهتمامات، والتواصل غير اللفظي، والانتباه، وسياق الحديث، والتواصل مع الآخرين. وكشفت نتائج هذه الدراسة وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية لصالح المجموعة التجريبية بين القياس القبلي والبعدي على مقياس مهارات اللغة البراغماتية على القياس الكلي، يعزى إلى البرنامج التدريبي، ووجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية على جميع الأبعاد، باستثناء بُعد سياق الحديث. كما أظهرت النتائج عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين التطبيقين البعدي والمتابعة على أفراد المجموعة التجريبية.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis eksfora dalam tuturan bahasa Banjar.Metode yang digunakan metode deskripsif dengan pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu prosedur penelitianyang menghasilkan data deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis atau lisan. Data yang digunakan dalampenelitian ini dibagi menjadi menjadi dua bagian, yaitu data primer dan data sekunder. Data primerberupa tuturan lisan yang diperoleh dari informan yang menguasai bahasa Banjar. Data sekunderberupa informasi yang diperoleh dari buku-buku cerita berbahasa Banjar. Data yang diambil dalampenelitian ini berupa sejumlah ujaran yang berupa kata, frasa, dan kalimat yang menyangkut masalaheksofora. Pengumpulan data ini menggunakan metode simak. Istilah menyimak di sini tidak hanyaberkaitan dengan pengunaan bahasa secara lisan, tetapi juga penggunaan bahasa secara tertulis.Metode ini memiliki teknik dasar yang berwujud teknik sadap. Dalam teknik selanjutnya, teknik sadapini diikuti dengan teknik lanjutan yang berupa teknik simak libat cakap, teknik simak bebas libat cakap,catat dan teknik rekam. Teknik libat cakap maksudnya si peneliti melakukan penyadapan itu dengancara berpartisipasi sambil menyimak, berpartisipasi dalam pembicaraan, dan menyimak pembicaraan.Selanjutnya teknik catat adalah teknik lanjutan yang dilakukan ketika menerapkan metode simakdengan teknik lanjutan. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah modelinteraktif dilakukan melalui empat tahap kegiatan, yaitu (a) pengumpulan data, (b) reduksi data,(c) penyajian data, dan (d) penyimpulan/verifikasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa 1)Wujud kata atau frasa yang tergolong deiksis persona dalam bahasa Banjar meliputi a) bentuk bebas, b)bentuk terikat, c) bentuk dasar, dan d) bentuk turunan. 2) Wujud kata atau frasa yang tergolong deiksiswaktu dalam bahasa Banjar meliputi a) pronomina penunjuk temporal, b) pronomina penunjukkandeskriptif, dan c) promonima penunjukkan dimensional. 3) Wujud kata dan frasa yang tergolong deiksistempat dalam bahasa Banjar meliputi a) pronomina penunjuk lokotif. 4) Kategori deiksis yang eksoforadalam tuturan bahasa Banjar meliputi a) pronomina persona pertama, b) pronomina persona kedua, c)pronomina persona ketiga, d) pronomina yang direduplikasikan, dan e) sifat khas leksem persona dalambahasa Banjar. 5) Ciri sintaksis yang memperlihatkan gejala eksofora dalam bahasa Banjar meliputia) fungsi sintaksis unsur-unsur kalimat (menduduki fungsi subjek, objek, dan keterangan) b) Peransemantik unsur-unsur kalimat (pelaku, pengalam, peruntung).Kata-kata kunci: eksofora, deiksis, bahasa banjar

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat aplikasi event organizer di tempat wisata Garut berbasis web untuk membantu memudahkan wisatawan yang hendak berwisata sambil mengadakan suatu event atau acara agar liburannya lebih menarik. Metodologi dalam perancangan aplikasi ini adalah Rational Unified Process (RUP) dengan bebrapa tahapan yaitu Inception, Elaboration, Construction, Transittion serta menggunakan pemodelan Unified Modeling Language (UML). Hasil dari penelitian ini berupa aplikasi event organizer wisata garut berbasis web.

Media pembelajaran yang interaktif akan membantu anak dalam menguasai pelajaran bahasa inggris sejak dini. Pada penelitian ini penulis membuat Game edukasi sebagai media pembelajaran yang interaktif. Dalam pembuatan game edukasi yang interaktif dibutuhkan perancangan Game Desain Document. Pada saat anak belajar dengan metode konvensional maka anak akan susah memahami dan cepat bosan karena anak belajar dari buku dan mendengarkan guru menjelaskan tetapi dengan adanya game edukasi sebagai media pembelajaran yang interaktif maka diharapkan akan memudahkan anak dalam mempelajari, memahami dan menguasai bahasa asing khususnya bahasa inggris. Aplikasi game yang dibangun menggunakan metode Game Design Document (GDD) dan metode perancangannya menggunakan metode waterfall. Adapun hasil dari penelitian ini berupa aplikasi media pembelajaran dan mendapatkan nilai presentase 80% dari kuesioner yang diisi oleh pengguna.</p><p class="Abstrak"> </p><p class="Abstrak">Abstract</p><p class="Abstrak">The importance of learning English at an early age because English is an international language. The method of learning in early childhood is learning while playing, children will also be easier to receive information in multimedia form. Interactive learning media will help children to master English language lessons early. In this study the author makes educational games as interactive learning media. In making interactive educational games, it is necessary to design a Document Design Game. When the child learns by conventional methods, the child will be difficult to understand and get bored quickly because the child learns from the book and listens to the teacher explaining but with the educational game as an interactive learning media it is expected to facilitate the child in learning, understanding and mastering foreign languages, especially English . Game applications are built using the Game Design Document (GDD) method and the design method uses the waterfall method. The results of this study are in the form of learning media applications and get a percentage value of 80% from the questionnaire filled in by the user.</p>

Se não primam pela criatividade, tais sonetos revelam um jovem e sensível escritor que não apenas tinha boas noções do fazer poético em voga no sistema literário francês, mas também familiaridade com a obra de autores menos conhecidos dos leitores de hoje, como Albert Samain. Não obstante tenha abandonado a escrita em língua francesa quando de seu retorno definitivo ao Brasil em 1925, Sérgio Milliet guardará dessa experiência literária um repertório que será continuamente acionado em sua crítica. A apresentação dos poemas é precedida de alguns comentários acerca dessa obra inaugural e é sucedida de uma breve análise das estratégias de tradução.

In this study using the quantitative research method, since this research is a type of quantitative research, the variables involved in this research are the X variable and the Y variable, for the X variable here, which is “the effect of learning a comprehensive book, while the Y variable is the ability to read the book As for the results of this study, the researchers found that there was an additional agenda for the students at the Institute of Al-Ameen Islamic University, which included learning about the basic rules of syntax and morphology.The first semester of the Idea Brendawan Institute.

Purpose Through a feminist lens, this study aims to provide insight into the ability of KPMG’s true value approach to include “the other” in the corporate value creation process and into its potential to introduce a more “multiple” form of accounting. Additionally, this study seeks to set up the true value approach within its broader social, economic and political context. Design/methodology/approach The study uses an interpretative analysis of KPMG’s document “A New Vision of Value; Connecting corporate and societal value creation”. Findings The KPMG document uses a language of fear of an external threat to promote its true value approach. It is suggested in this study that the concern of the KPMG approach is to include “the other” in their valuation model if it has an impact on corporate earnings. However, stakeholder actions or governmental regulations could be problematically attenuat by the document’s use of a language which suggests integration of “the other” and which might be perceived as socially progressive. It is argue that the increase in societal or environmental value set out in the KPMG document depends upon “excessive” commodity production which uses up scarce environmental resources. Research limitations/implications The implication of this research is that the daunting problems of inequality and environmental destruction cannot be solved by initiatives such as the KMPG true value technology. Practical implications The paper argues that a feminine management or reporting framework would not need to fulfil the aim of managing the other in the sense of measurement and control, as it is not based on the fear of loss. It would instead be an approach of giving and caring. A feminine alternative, however, is difficult to express in phallogo-centric language. The ability to bring about change requires the capacity to understand the prevalent symbolic order and the willingness to challenge it. Social implications The feminist perspective used in this paper to critically reflect on KPMG’s true value approach and the neo-liberal economy in which it is embedded aims to create public awareness of the prevalent phallocentric symbolic order. Recognising the invisible power of the symbolic order is essential to be able to see how the new “integrative” management and reporting approaches are only slight modifications of the existing management and reporting tools. The paper highlights that these “alternatives” create the impression that business is dealing with the greatest global threats and can potentially be used to silence critics. Originality/value This paper contributes to existing critiques of integrated or shared value approaches by taking a feminist view. Even though corporate claims of “win-win situations” (in which environmental degradation and inequality can be solved as business opportunities) have been critiqued in the literature, this study adopts a rather unusual perspective (in accounting). This approach argues that initiatives grounded in the phallogo-centric symbolic order are incapable of overcoming the current problems of our society; but they bear the risk of making the situation worse by creating a public impression that “someone is dealing appropriately with serious social and environmental issues”.

The article reveals the figure of the historian Ivan Filipchak (1871–1945) as a researcher of education in Eastern Galicia and, partially, Lemkiv region. For the first time, the study of I. Filipchak's studies in the history of education is analyzed. It is claimed that most of them are devoted mainly to the history of education and educational institutions: rural primary schools in the villages of Strilbychi and Hordynia in Sambir Region, the monastery school of the village of Lavriv, Sambir Teacher's Seminary. Two works of the researcher are singled out, which have a generalizing nature and are dedicated to the development of folk schooling in the ethnographic regions of Ukraine – Lemkivshchyna and Boykivshchyna. It is proved that some of the works were written on the basis of extensive source material (primarily the study of the history of the main school in Lavrov), while some others (school in Hordyna, education in Lemkiv region) were built on a rather limited source base. It was noted that the researcher actively used the memories of teachers and students, personal memories, documents from the school archives and funds of the «Boikivshchyna» Society in Sambor, of which he was an active member. A feature of many of his works has been established – a noticeable antiquarian approach to historical sources, the presence of archeographic essays in the studios, which is characteristic of novice historians and local historians. It was revealed that in his writings the author very clearly traces, in his opinion, the main factors of the development of education – the policy of the authorities, representatives of the church, the community and individual educational figures. It is proven that the scientist paid considerable attention to little-known figures in the field of public education, in particular to teachers P. Buschakovsky, H. Gordynskyi, Fr. M. Maksymovich, Y. Kerekyarto, T. Bilenko, and others. It was established that the scientist's works were characterized by special attention to native-language education, as well as ethnographic observations about the life of Boiks and Lemks. Analisa dan Perancangan Game edukasi untuk anak usia dini yang terdiri dari pengenalan angka dan huruf merupakan pengembangan dan pengenalan huruf dan angka untuk anak usia dini. Perancangan sistem dilakukan dengan model waterfall dan bahasa pemodelan menggunakan UML (United Modelling Language). Implementasi penelitian ini menghasilkan sebuah aplikasi Game Edukasi Berbasis Android yang sangat bermanfaat pada kalangan anak usia dini, disamping menempuh pembelajaran formal di sekolah, anak-anak dapat belajar sambil bermain dengan menggunakan aplikasi ini. Anak usia dini antara umur 3 – 6 tahun berada dalam masa Golden Periode (Periode Keemasan) perkembangan otak mereka. Dalam usia ini, mereka berada pada masa pertumbuhan dan perkembangan yang paling pesat baik fisik maupun mental. Oleh karena itu, penulis membuat game edukasi yang berbasis sistem operasi Android dengan harapan anak-anak dapat langsung menggunakan aplikasi permainan tersebut dan memperoleh pengetahuan lebih banyak serta merubah pola belajar agar tidak jenuh.

Makalah ini bertujuan mendeskripsi awalan kata kerja bahasa Bajau dari daerah Kota Belud dan Semporna, Sabah. Data diperoleh melalui temu bual tidak berstruktur. Kaedah temu bual secara bersemuka dan secara santai dilakukan sambil membuat rakaman terhadap semua aktiviti harian. Aktiviti harian tersebut melibatkan kegiatan ekonomi dan sosial para informan. Analisis menunjukkan terdapat pelbagai bentuk imbuhan dalam kedua-dua bahasa Bajau, namun imbuhan-imbuhan berkenaan memperlihatkan perbezaan ketara antara satu sama lain. Malah, dapatan juga memperlihatkan perbezaan dengan hasil kajian Omar (1983). Bagaimanapun, makalah ini hanya berfokus kepada imbuhan awalan kata kerja m(N) dalam bahasa Bajau Kota Belud yang mempunyai tiga alomorf, iaitu m-, n- dan ng-, dan imbuhan a(N) dalam bahasa Bajau Semporna yang juga memiliki tiga alomorf, iaitu an-, am- dan ang-. Kedua-dua imbuhan awalan tersebut boleh diimbuh dengan semua fonem vokal dan fonem konsonan /p, b, t, d, k, g, h, l, r, dan s/. Didapati juga bahawa imbuhan awalan dalam kedua-dua bahasa ini merupakan imbuhan yang sangat produktif dan boleh diimbuh dengan tiga jenis kata, iaitu kata nama, kata kerja dan kata adjektif.

Culture is an ancestral heritage that contains many moral values to learn. However, the current young generation seems reluctant to learn about the culture in their environment or from the teaching point of view in schools it does not provide a platform to introduce culture to their students. Even though by integrating cultural values in learning, especially language learning, it can add to students' repertoire of loving their own culture because there are many values of local wisdom contained in it. By inserting examples of cultural heritage such as wayang orang, traditional houses, traditional events can be used as interesting learning materials for students because they remind them of the rich ancestral heritage in the texts they are studying. The use of the blended learning method is also a good alternative in optimizing local wisdom in teaching integrated language skills. By utilizing their own devices, they can have access to search for information from various sources such as YouTube, podcasts, and several websites to enrich their understanding of the culture in their environment. From these devices they can also help promote local culture in their environment. And on the other hand, teachers also have a role as cultural promoters through learning materials in the form of texts that they teach. Abstrak: Masuknya budaya asing yang masif diduga akan membawa penurunan pengakuan budaya lokal oleh generasi muda khususnya anak-anak sekolah. Padahal, budaya lokal tersebut tetap dapat diajarkan secara terpadu dengan menyisipkan kearifan lokal melalui teks yang digunakan sebagai bahan dan media belajar mengajar khususnya pada mata pelajaran bahasa. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan bagaimana mengoptimalkan kearifan lokal dalam pengajaran keterampilan berbahasa terpadu melalui metode blended learning. Dengan meman­faat­­kan pendekatan POACE (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling, and Evaluating), program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan melalui platform daring berupa workshop. Program ini mendapat respon positif dari 50 peserta guru dan calon guru bahasa yang bergabung. Mereka juga menyadari pentingnya masalah ini untuk mencegah punahnya budaya lokal. Mengintegrasikannya dengan teknologi ke dalam pengajaran bahasa bisa menjadi alternatif yang bisa dilakukan. Para siswa juga dapat mengenali budaya lokal mereka sendiri dengan mendapatkan beberapa teks yang berisi warisan budaya sambil belajar bahasa. Sementara itu, guru juga dapat berperan sebagai promotor budaya melalui materi ajar yang dibawanya ke dalam kelas. Dengan demikian, konservasi budaya dapat dilakukan oleh kedua pihak, yaitu guru dan siswa sebagai generasi muda.

Adapun Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu : 1) Untuk mengetahui proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru dalam pengembangan keterampilan Berbahasa melalui Pendekatan Active Learning anak 2) Untuk mengetahui pengembangan Keterampilan Berbahasa melalui Pendekatan Active Learning anak 3) Untuk mengetahui Faktor pendukung dan faktor penghambat dalam pengembangna keterampilan Berbahasa Anak Usia Dini. Metode penelitian menggunakan Metode Kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian Deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini yaitu Guru di TK Bina Kalam. Data yang diperoleh yaitu dengan cara metode Observasi (Pengamatan), Wawancara dan Dokumentasi. subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah Anak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan keterampilan Berbahasa Anak Usia Dini yaitu dengan cara guru memberikan Stimulus terlebih dahulu pada anak, guru memiliki peran penting dalam pengembangan keterampilan berbahasa anak yaitu mendidik anak, mengajar, membimbing, melatih, mengarahkan bahkan sambil memotivasi anak untuk meningkatkan perkembangan bahasa pada anak. Although previous research has demonstrated the significance of blended learning in foreign language learning, little attention is devoted to examining the influence of blended learning on students’ basic Korean learning process. This research aims to investigate the students’ perceptions of blended learning model in learning basic Korean. A quantitative and qualitative research method was employed by collecting data from questionnaires and interviews. This research involved 20 students in a Donasi Sambil Belajar (DOSILA) program. The DOSILA program was included as a learning program that used a blended learning model with a composition of 30% of e-learning and 70% of face-to-face learning. In addition, students’ perceptions of the blended learning model were examined. The results revealed that the application of blended learning as a new learning model could improve students’ learning independence properly. The students also informed that blended learning model assisted them to learn basic Korean easily with satisfaction. However, they encountered some obstacles such as forgotten schedules and poor internet connection. The results of this research can be a reference for future research to formulate more rigorous teaching framework.

Purpose The paper aims at summarizing the state of knowledge on the relationship between a company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its innovation performance. Design/methodology/approach The research relied on a systematic literature review with the use of SALSA (Search, AppraisaL, Synthesis, Analysis) and backwards-snowballing methods. The search encompassed one electronic database – Scopus. Finally, the set of papers analyzed amounted to 24 publications. The relationship between innovation and CSR reported in these papers were synthesized in the form of a mapping review. Findings The results indicated the lack of scientific consensus on many aspects of the relationship studied. CSR was assumed to influence innovation performance, and inversely, innovations were presumed to have an impact on the company’s CSR. However, the relation’s determinants were strongly diversified in the set of articles studied. Research limitations/implications The present paper omitted articles published in languages other than English. Also, it limited the papers studied to those published between January 2000 and August 2014 in journals listed on the Journal Citation Report. The paper contributes to the research by highlighting the most important research gaps and implications for further research. Practical implications The present paper constitutes an up-to-date summary on the studied relationship, which is important for practitioners in the management process. Originality/value According to the authors’ knowledge, no systematic reviews dedicated to the relationship between a company’s CSR and its innovation performance were made before. Thus, it fulfils an important research gap.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana gestur Ilyasa dan Alyasa pada saat berceramah di ajang Aksi Asia Indosiar, bagaimana struktur materi ceramah yang disampaikan, dan gaya bahasa apa saja yang digunakan pada saat berceramah di ajang Aksi Asia Indosiar. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori model komunikasi Aristoteles. Asumsi dasarnya yaitu speaker - message – listener. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan jenis data kualitatif. Hasil dari penelitian tersebut dapat diketahui bahwa gestur Ilyasa dan Alyasa yaitu meliputi badan yang berdiri tegak saat berceramah, nsmun terkadang sedikit membungkuk, sambil menghadap kepada audiens, dan bergantian tempat sesuai apa yang disampaikanya. Gerakan tangan saat berceramah mengikuti sesuai apa yang disampaikan, seringkali mereka menggerakan telunjuk ke atas, kanan, kiri, dan ke depan secara kompak. Adapun ekspresi yang terkandung meliputi mimik wajah dan pandangan mata. ILAL tidak hanya fokus kepada audience ataupun dewan juri saja, sesekali mereka melihat kepada kamera. Struktur materi yang disampaikan terdapat judul, pendahuluan, isi, dan penutup. Gaya bahasa yang digunakan mengandung beberapa majas dari gaya bahasa perbandingan, perulangan, sindiran, pertentangan, dan penegasan. This study aims to determine how the gesture of Ilyasa and Alyasa during the lecture at the Asia Indosiar Action event, how the structure of the material delivered, and what style of language is used when speaking at the Indosiar Asia Action event. The choice of the theory used in this study is Aristotle's communication model theory. The basic assumption is that the speaker - message - listener. The method used is descriptive method with qualitative data types. The results of this study can be seen that the gesture of Ilyasa and Alyasa which includes posture that stands upright, sometimes slightly bent, facing the audience, and move according to what he said. The movements of the hands when lecturing follow what is said, often they move their indexes upward, right, left, and forward in a compact manner. The expressions contained include facial expressions and eyesight. Ilyasa and Alyasa does not only focus on the audience or the jury, they occasionally look at the camera. The structure of the material presented is title, introduction, content, and closing. The style of language used contains several styles of comparative language styles, repetitive, satirical, contradictory, and affirmative.

Purpose This paper aims to examine, through the lens of language expectancy theory (LET), how sustainability assurors use optimism and certainty in possible persuasion attempts. The paper also explores a number of explanatory variables that could offer insights into the use of these verbal tones in sustainability assurance reports. Design/methodology/approach First, the paper relies on DICTION standard normalised optimism and certainty ranges in conjunction with descriptive statistics to analyse how sustainability assurors use optimism and certainty. Second, the paper uses quantile regression with robust standard errors to investigate the association between the measures of verbal tone used in this study and several possible explanatory variables. Findings Consistent with LET, the study documents that sustainability assurors exercise caution in using both certainty and optimism in persuasion attempts. The paper also finds that possible explanatory variables significantly associated with optimism include praise, assurance level, legal system and report location. However, reference to sustainability management control (SMC), status of assurance providers, praise, legal system and financial performance appear to explain the use of certainty. Research limitations/implications The paper does not, at this stage, claim causality between the two measures of verbal tone, on the one hand, and the possible explanatory variables explored, on the other hand. It rather reports their possible associations. Furthermore, the study only measures reference to management control system and not reliance on it. Practical implications The main findings of this study imply that the use of optimism and certainty exhibits likely cautious practice by assurors. Nevertheless, assurors are more likely to use certainty more flexibly and appear more discreet when using optimism. Social implications The findings of this paper also indicate how societal expectations play an important role in ensuring cautious persuasive behaviour by sustainability assurors in using verbal tones within sustainability assurance statements. This suggests that stakeholders may place reliance on attestations expressed in these statements. Originality/value The paper represents the first attempt to test LET in sustainability accounting by analysing verbal tones used by sustainability assurance providers. It contributes to the sustainability assurance literature in that it empirically demonstrates how sustainability assurors, as expert communicators, use optimistic tone and verbal certainty in careful persuasion attempts.

This study is entitled “Translation Shift of Adverbs of Manner in Reference to ‘City of Bones: Mortal Instruments’ by Cassandra Clare”. The aims are to identify the equivalences of adverbs of manner translated into Bahasa Indonesia and to analyze the shift of adverbs of manner in the novel. The data was collected by close-reading to identify the English adverbs of manner and its translation into Bahasa Indonesia found in the novel, highlighting the data found in both of the novels, comparing the data found to find the equivalences in both source and target language, then note-taking the data found to be analyzed afterward. The theories used in this research are the theory of translation proposed by Larson (1984) and the translation theory of shift proposed by Catford (2000). The results show that the English adverbs of manner found were equivalent to prepositions dengan, sambil, oleh, bagaikan, seperti, and secara that were followed with adjective, noun, verb, adjective phrase, noun phrase, verb phrase, or adverb after the preposition. The translation shift that occurred in the translation was category shift, in which the adverbs of manner shifted into an adjective, verbs, and numeral, and another type of translation shift that occurred was a level shift, in which adverbs of manner shifted adjective phrase, the noun phrase, and verb phrase.

Praktik Lapang Tematik (PLT) merupakan kegiatan pendidikan yang diikuti oleh setiap mahasiswa perguruan tinggi. Dengan bekerja secara langsung di dunia usaha atau industri, secara sistematik dan terarah dengan supervisi yang kompeten di bidangnya yang bertujuan memperoleh pengalaman dan kecakapan penguasaan keahlian di suatu bidang, mahasiswa dapat mengaplikasikan ilmu yang diperoleh saat belajar di Universitas HKBP Nommensen kepada anak Sekolah Minggu di Gereja HKBP Laut Dendang. Metode pelaksanaan PLT dilakukan secara tatap muka. Dalam pelaksanaannya, ada beberapa anak sekolah minggu yang mengalami kesulitan saat membaca liturgi dalam bahasa Inggris dan dalam drama musikal ketika mendalami peran/karakter tokoh. Dengan demikian, mahasiswa melakukan pelatihan kepada anak Sekolah Minggu melalui metode pelatihan yang lebih mudah, yaitu dengan bermain games, seperti bernyanyi sambil melakukan gerakan, main tebak-tebakan seputar hal-hal tentang bahasa Inggris dan memberi contoh memainkan karakter tokoh dalam drama musikal di depan anak Sekolah Minggu. Hal ini sangat efektif dilakukan saat mengajari anak Sekolah Minggu mengingat usia yang masih kecil sangat aktif dalam bermain daripada belajar. Untuk itu, mahasiswa melakukan metode belajar sambil bermain agar memudahkan anak untuk lebih cepat memahami pembelajaran dan merasa nyaman selama mengikuti proses pembelajaran. Thematic Field Practice is an educational activity that is followed by every college student. By working directly in the business world or in the industrial world, in a systematic and directed manner with competent supervision in their field which aims to gain experience and skills in mastering expertise in a field, the students can transfer their knowledge gained while studying at HKBP Nommensen University to Sunday school children in HKBP Laut Dendang Church. The method for implementing Thematic Field Practice was face-to-face. In practice, there are some Sunday school children who have difficulty in reading the liturgy in English and in a musical drama. Some of children have difficulty understanding the roles of the characters. Therefore, students of HKBP Nommensen University conducted training for Sunday school children through easier training methods by playing games such as singing while making movements, playing guessing games about things about the English language and giving examples of playing the characters in musical dramas in front of the children. This method was very effective when teaching Sunday school children, considering that at a young age they are very active in playing rather than studying. The results of this activity is that it makes easier for the children to understand the material more and makes the children feel comfortable during the learning process.

Praktik Lapangan Tematik (PLT) adalah program dari Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas HKBP Nommensen. Program tersebut adalah wujud pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan di luar kampus dengan melakukan kegiatan sesuai dengan bidang ilmu yang dipelajari oleh mahasiswa dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan wawasan dan keterampilan mahasiswa di bidang yang ditekuni dan memberi dampak positif bagi masyarakat tempat pelaksanaan. Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni mengolaborasikan peran dari kedua program studi, yaitu Bahasa Inggris dan Seni Musik di dalam pelaksanaannya. Oleh karena peran yang berbeda dari setiap mahasiswa, metode yang digunakan dalam melakukan tugas tersebut tentu berbeda. Mahasiswa Sastra Inggris menggunakan metode belajar sambil bermain/metode fun learning, yaitu metode dengan memberikan kebebasan bagi anak untuk belajar agar tidak terbebani dengan apa yang diajarkan. Materi yang diajarkan adalah materi yang mudah dan umumnya diajarkan di sekolah sekolah dasar. Mahasiswa Seni Musik mengiringi musik bersama para pemain musik baik untuk Ibadah Sekolah Minggu maupun Ibadah Umum. Kegiatan tersebut dilakukan berdasarkan kebutuhan dan permintaan dari pihak gereja HKBP Pertahanan. Thematic Field Practice is a program from the Faculty of Language and Art, University of HKBP Nommensen. The program is the community-based activity carried out outside the campus by conducting activities in accordance with the fields of knowledge studied by students. The aim of this activity is to increase the students' insights and skills in the field they are studying and emerge positive impacts on the community where it is implemented. The Faculty of Language and Art collaborated the roles of the two study programs, English Literature and Music Art in its implementation. Students from the two study programs were divided to carry out different assignments according to their fields. English Literature students taught English to Sunday School children, while Music Art students played music as accompaniment in both Sunday School or public worship. This activity was carried out based on the needs and requests of HKBP Pertahanan organizer.

Abstract One form of entertainment that is familiar and indeed much in demand in our lives is the game. Games are applications that are familiar to the community and also early childhood from all walks of life. But the development of the game itself is currently still dominated by productions from abroad. In this study the authors chose early childhood as a sample of game users because remembering children prefer playing games rather than learning theoretically. From the existing problems, in this study the authors built an educational game application so that children can learn while playing. The purpose of this study is to facilitate children in the learning process in the form of games and the existence of educational guessing game pictures of animals and puzzles is expected to improve the ability of children in the learning process. The method used in this study is the method of data collection consisting of observations, interviews, and literature studies, for supporting tools used, namely UML (Unified Modeling Language) while the algorithm used by Fisher-Yates which functions to change the order of questions in educational game applications. With this educational guessing game application, guess the picture of animals and puzzle can make it easier for children in the process of learning to recognize the animals that exist on this earth. Namun perkembangan game itu sendiri saat ini masih di dominasi oleh produksi-produksi dari luar negeri. Pada penelitian ini penulis memilih anak-anak usia dini sebagai sampel pengguna game karena mengingat anak-anak lebih suka bermain game dibandingkan belajar secara teoritis. Dari permasalahan yang ada maka pada penelitian ini penulis membangun sebuah aplikasi game edukasi agar anak-anak bisa belajar sambil bermain. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mempermudah anak-anak dalam proses pembelajaran dalam bentuk game dan dengan adanya game edukasi tebak gambar hewan dan puzzle ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak-anak dalam proses belajar. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu metode pengumpulan data yang terdiri dari observasi, wawancara dan studi pustaka, untuk tools pendukung yang digunakan yaitu UML(Unified Modeling Language) sedangkan Algoritma yang digunakan Fisher Yates yang berfungsi untuk merubah urutan soal pada aplikasi game edukasi. Dengan adanya aplikasi game edukasi tebak gambar hewan dan fuzzle ini dapat mempermudah anak-anak dalam proses belajar mengenal hewan-hewan yang ada di bumi ini. Purpose This paper aims to examine trends in the content of reporting within 135 UK higher education institutions (HEIs). It explores the extent to which integrated reporting (IR) content elements, reflecting integrated thinking, are disclosed voluntarily and whether HEI-specific features influence the resulting disclosures. Design/methodology/approach Existing IR guidelines given by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and the adoption of content analysis have provided the opportunity to examine the trend and extent of IR content elements associated in HEI corporate reports. The evidence was obtained from 405 UK HEI annual reports covering the period 2014-2016. Findings The results indicate a significant increase in the number of IR content elements embedded in HEI annual reports. The HEI-specific characteristics examined, such as the establishment of HEI (before or after 1992), adoption of IR framework and size of HEI, are all significantly and positively associated with IR content elements disclosure. This paper argues that institutional theory, isomorphism and isopraxism are relevant for explaining the changes in the contents of HEI annual reports. The findings also suggest that universities are beginning to adopt an integrated thinking approach to the reporting of their activities. Research limitations/implications The study is based on IR content elements only and could be extended to include the fundamental concepts and basic principles of the IR framework. There are other factors that have a potentially crucial influence on HEI core activities (such as teaching and learning research and internationalisation) which have been omitted from this study. Practical implications The findings will allow policymakers to evaluate the extent to which integrated thinking is taking place and influencing the UK HEI sector in the selection and presentation of information. A further implication of the findings is that an appropriate a sector-wide enforcement and compliance body, for instance, the British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG), may consider developing voluntary IR guidance in a clear, consistent, concise and comparable format. Also, it may pursue regulatory support for this guidance. In doing so, it may monitor the compliance and disclosure levels of appropriate IR requirements. Within such a framework, IR could be used to assist HEIs to make more sustainable choices and allow stakeholders to better understand aspects of HEI performance. Social implications The research has implications for society within and beyond the unique UK HEI sector. Universities are places of advanced thinking and can lead the way for other sectors by demonstrating the potential of integrated thinking to create a cohesive wide-ranging discourse and create engagement among stakeholder groups. Specifically, IR builds on the strong points of accounting, for instance, robust quantitative evidence collecting, relevance, reliability, materiality, comparability and assurability, to explain the sustainability discourse into a “language” logical to HEIs organisational decision makers. Consequently, IR may generate better visibility and knowledge of the financial values of exploiting capitals (financial, intellectual, human, manufactured, social and natural) and offer a multifaceted approach to reassess HEIs organizational performance in various sectors that support the growth of integrated thinking. Originality/value This is the first known study to explore HEI characteristics and link them with the level of voluntary IR content elements disclosed in UK HEIs.

This qualitative study aims to explore the intrinsic literary aspects of "Laskar Pelangi" by Andrea Hirata, focusing on themes, character development, plot, Settings, language styles, narrative perspective, and moral values. Employing a research approach involving close textual analysis, thematic examination, character studies, linguistic nuances, and narrative perspectives, we dissected the multifaceted nature of the novel. The analysis revealed intricately developed characters, each embodying resilience and hope, while the narrative techniques, including vivid descriptions, dialogues, and cultural nuances, enriched the immersive experience. The thematic exploration highlighted the novel's profound messages about perseverance, the transformative power of education, and the enduring influence of dedicated mentors. Furthermore, the novel's language style use and narrative perspectives were found to enhance reader engagement and emotional connection. As a result, "Laskar Pelangi" emerged as a testament to the moral values of determination, camaraderie, and the pursuit of knowledge, resonating universally. These findings have significant implications for both literary scholarship and educational discourse, emphasizing the enduring relevance of the novel's themes as valuable educational resources. It also underscores the pivotal role of literature in conveying universal insights into the human condition and storytelling's power to inspire individuals facing adversity, while illuminating the impact of language style use and narrative perspective in enhancing the effectiveness of the literature.AbstractPenelitian kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mengexplorasi unsur-unsur intrinsik dari "Laskar Pelangi" sebuah novel karya Andrea Hirata, dengan fokus pada tema, penokohan, alur cerita, gaya bahasa, sudut pandang naratif, dan nilai-nilai moral. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan penelitian yang melibatkan analisis teks yang mendalam, analysis tematik, studi karakter, nuansa linguistik, dan sudut pandang naratif, kami menguraikan sifat yang kompleks dari novelini. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa karakterpada novel masing-masing menggambarkan ketahanan dan harapan, sementara teknik naratif, termasuk deskripsi yang jelas, dialog, dan nuansa budaya, memperkaya pengalaman yang mendalam. Eksplorasi tematis menyoroti pesan mendalam novel ini tentang ketekunan, kekuatan transformatif pendidikan, dan pengaruh yang berlangsung dari mentor yang berdedikasi.
