Résumé :
Despite today’s routine denunciations of Eurocentrism and the rise of critical schools that consider imperialism to be the exclusive outgrowth of “European epistemologies,” Europe has always been a much more internally mixed entity than is usually supposed as a result of foreign occupations, unassimilated indigenous peoples, contested borders, and a massive cultural and intellectual influx from its present and former colonies. Especially interwar Europe saw this unevenness come to the fore with the residency in Europe of intellectuals and activists from the global South who joined Europeans of like mind in the wake of the Russian Revolution to forge a new international order. The Bengali revolutionary M. N. Roy was one of the most exceptional figures of this type, a promoter equally of science and humanism who dedicated the latter part of his life, in fact, to promoting a “radical and integral humanism” fashioned in part on the work of European thinkers of earlier centuries. In doing so, he was establishing the unevenness of Europe, and making a case for Europe as a joint creation. He was pointing out that these ostensibly European ideas derived from an Enlightenment infused with the more worldly and cosmopolitan philosophies of medieval Arabic, Persian, and Jewish thought.

Résumé :
Manabendra Nath Roy (1887-1954) was the founder of the Communist Parties of Mexico and India and a socialist-humanist philosopher. In the Western world, his works are today widely ignored and forgotten. This article introduces some philosophical aspects of Roy’s thought. It engages with foundations of his theory and shows its relevance for the study of communication, culture, technology, the human being, fascism, and nationalism. Frankfurt School thinkers such as Theodor W. Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Herbert Marcuse, and Erich Fromm were interested in similar topics to Roy. This article also compares the approach of Roy and the Frankfurt School. It shows parallels between Roy and the first generation of the Frankfurt School with respect to themes such as the dialectic of technology and society, the dialectic of the Enlightenment, fascism, nationalism, and authoritarianism. In the age of new nationalisms and authoritarian capitalism, global environmental crises, capitalist crisis, and the digital crisis, socialist-humanist theories such as M. N. Roy’s can inspire struggles for a humanist and socialist society as antidotes to the acceleration and deepening of the three crises.

Let PR(X) denote the hyperspace of nonempty finite subsets of a topological space X with the Pixley-Roy topology. In this paper, motivated by [4], we introduced cf-covers and rcf-covers of X to establish the R-selective separability and the M-selective separability in PR(X) under the Pixley-Roy topology. We proved that the following statements are equivalent for a space X: (1) PR(X) is R-separable (resp., M-separable); (2) X satisfies S1(Crcf, Crcf) (resp., Sfin(Crcf,Crcf)); (3) X is countable and each co-finite subset of X satisfies S1(Ccf, Ccf) (resp.,Sfin(Ccf,Ccf)); (4)Xis countable and PR(X) has countable strong fan tightness (resp., PR(X) has countable fan tightness).

This article uses translation analytically in order to address the issue of context. This can be elusive in global intellectual history, especially when the ideas at stake claim to be valid anywhere, with no regard to circumstances. Examples are drawn from the oeuvre of the universalist Indian thinker M. N. Roy in order to argue that his ‘contingent contexts’ of personal political circumstances and tactical decisions can illuminate historical arguments, as well as positing that contexts were not merely what Roy operated in, but also what he operated with.

Roy, Sudipta. « Perspectives and Impact of Green Electrodeposition ». ECS Meeting Abstracts MA2022-02, no 24 (9 octobre 2022) : 1002. http://dx.doi.org/10.1149/ma2022-02241002mtgabs.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Green electrodeposition is a concept where electrodeposition is carried out sustainably; with safety, society, and environmental aspects playing a significant role in decision-making. ECS and electrochemists have seen large changes in the use of materials and chemicals over the last 50 years: for example, the slow phase out of mercury in labs and industry due to its toxicity [1]. On the other hand, the development of DSA and Boron-doped Diamond (BDD) electrodes have provided strategies for effluent control [2]. The Electrodeposition and Electroless Division (EDLP) members also would have faced challenges over the last 40 years. This could have involved replacing Cr(VI) electrolytes [3], Cd-based coatings, or developing cyanide-free processes [4]. In many cases EDLP has led the exploration of a new set of functional materials: an exemplar being “Get the Lead Out” Symposia Series focused on the development of Pb-free solders. Green Electrodeposition is a marriage of Green Chemical Principles and Electrodeposition. Green Chemical Principles [5], urges one to focus on the reduction of waste, atom economy, energy efficiency, benign solvents, etc. These guidelines are useful for the development of any process, including electrodeposition processes. To adopt these principles, one has to understand and consider the stability of chemical formulations [6], surface electrochemistry that enables electrodeposition [7] and energy and atom efficiency of the process [8]. Electrochemistry, in particular, is a low temperature, low pressure process using electrons to drive reactions which reduces waste. It should therefore follow, that electrochemistry has a significant advantage in offering “Green” processes if developed, implemented and monitored carefully. The talk will focus on how the concept started which simply focused on “prevention of generating” of waste. In particular it examined the notion of development of alternative formulations, the thermodynamics of stable electrolytes and associated issues. The application of this approach towards the development of gold deposition using non-cyanide baths for opto-electronic devices [9] will serve as an exemplar. Following this, the talk will focus effluent remediation of waste from printed circuit board manufacturing [10] and its extension to clean up of galvanic sludge from plating companies [11]. If time permits the use of engineering methodologies using current pulsing, novel agitation schemes and monitoring methods for energy efficiency and metal recycling and recovery will also be discussed. Recently, some researchers determined lower bounds for the normalized version of some special functions to its sequence of partial sums, e.g., Struve and Dini functions, Wright functions and Miller–Ross functions. In this paper, we determine lower bounds for the normalized Le Roy-type Mittag-Leffler function Fα,βγ(z)=z+∑n=1∞Anzn+1, where An=ΓβΓα(n−1)+βγ and its sequence of partial sums (Fα,βγ(z))m(z)=z+∑n=1mAnzn+1. Several examples of the main results are also considered.

Indian Rammohun Roy and Russian Pyotr Tchaadaev are juxtaposed as cross-cultural philosophers in Modern social thought. Being at the crossroads of the West and the East cultures in their countries, they have demonstrated the special resemblance in their worldviews and paradigm of thinking. Based on comparative analysis of philosophers’ existential circumstances and texts, the author describes them as ‘problematic thinkers’ (M. Buber) who destruct quietness in their societies, form the problematic field of social thought and philosophy in the epoch of modernization, and create grounds for the self-understanding by Indian and Russian societies. The conventional description of paradigm of thinking by Rammohun Roy and Pyotr Tchaadaev is presented in the article. The universalistic approach is laid down in the paradigm ground; it permit to search for a unity and universality in diversity of natural and human worlds. The unity discovers through relation of their own social reality with the Other one (this role plays the West). Problems are raised and resolved in special trajectory “understanding of the Otner – thinking on their Own – a creation of some project of Eastern – Western synthesis”. Owing to the paradigm as well as the raised themes R. Roy and P. Tchaadaev have created the epochs in the history of thought and culture in India and Russia respectively.

Résumé :
The God of Small Things, a contemporary Indian Classic by Arundhati Roy is an analysis of the nature of subalternization and its repercussion on the individual and on society as well. The present fictional work is chiefly an interpretation of political misuse, personal relationships, caste and class conflicts, distressing experience of family dispute, broken faith, love, marriage, loss of identity, and marginalization of women as a result of foolish male dominance. Résumé :
Ultra broadband supercontinuum pulses are commonly used as a source of different wavelengths from a wide spectral bandwidth or as a source of very short pulses. However the processes responsible for wide spectral broadening are still under investigation. In this paper we examine the temporal and spectral characteristics of the pulses broadened upon propagation in the highly nonlinear photonics crystal fibers with different dispersion profiles. Generated supercontinuum pulses were experimentally characterized using cross-correlation frequency resolved optical gating technique. Full Text: PDF ReferencesM. Bradler, P. Baum, and E. Résumé :
Observations are presented on the natural regeneration of Eucalyptus victrix L. Johnson and K. Hill (coolibah), the dominant tree species of grassy woodlands on the floodplain of the Fortescue River, north of Newman in the Pilbara district of Western Australia. The main objectives of this study were to examine: (i) survival of newly recruited E. victrix seedlings on flooded and burnt sites, and (ii) growth and survival of established plants in a gilgaied landscape. Populations of newly-recruited seedlings following flooding or fire were monitored opportunistically at 'Marillana' and 'Ethel Creek' stations, for up to two years from tagging. A population of saplings at 'Roy Hill' station was observed over eight years. Seedling densities of E. victrix in flooded sites were 0.32 and 1.03 plants/m2 in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Locally high densities reached from 1.2 to 17.7 plants/m2 on areas of 28 and 6 m2 respectively. At the burnt site at 'Ethel Creek', 1.30 plants/m2 were observed where 58 seedlings were recorded on an area of 445 m2 a year after a natural fire. Many of these persisted well into their second year, whereas seedlings recruited in the flooded sites generally lasted less than a year (250-376 days). In contrast, persistence of a cohort of 100 established saplings < 2 m tall in a gilgaied landscape at 'Roy Hill' was high. During 8 years of observations, only one sapling was lost. Those found at the edges of gilgais had attained greater heights (3.91 1.14 m) than saplings located inside (3.16 0.95 m) or on top (3.12 0.93 m) of the gilgais. This study demonstrates that the seedling stage in E. victrix is critical, in that once newly recruited individuals reach the sapling stage (0.611 m), mortality rates are much reduced. Unfortunately, it was not possible during the course of this study to locate a cohort of young seedlings that did survive and so any consideration of the conditions necessary for their survival is purely speculative.

Résumé :
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is a major health and social problem worldwide. This study aims to assess the coping process of patients with type II Diabetes Mellitus in relation to sociodemographic variables and the time of evolution of the disease, in order to raise awareness of the importance and preventive processes of the disease to improve the quality of people's lives, a Callista Roy test was used for the evaluation of this study. It was a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation, which included 180 patients who voluntarily agreed to participate. The results showed that patients with a pathology of less than 10 years of evolution have high capacity to cope and adapt to the disease. However, the results were slightly lower in people with more than 10 years of evolution. Keywords: Adaptation, coping, Diabetes Mellitus II, self-care. Résumé :
Gravity is explained here as a not moving phenomenon, that instead is emerging inside matter, since ether particles are assumed to be absorbed by matter (not colliding with matter). Therefore, no aberration in gravity. So, it was a great mistake to abolish Fatio’s great idea [M. R. Edwards, Perspectives on Le Sage’s theory of gravitation, (C Roy Keys, Montreal 2002)] due to the lack of aberration in gravity. This mistake is the reason to the fact that we do not understand gravity today.
