Résumé :
This article examines the political activism of conservative civil society in postrevolutionary Mexico through the lens of American service clubs. It focuses on the case of the Rotary Club of Monterrey, which gathered the city's industrial elites and some of the most vocal opponents of the Mexican state, particularly the presidency of Lázaro Cárdenas (1934–40). Monterrey is significant because of its economic and political clout; by the 1930s, it was the powerhouse of heavy industry and in the 1940s a key center of support for the Partido Acción Nacional. After Monterrey Rotarians dissolved their club in 1936, following a disagreement with Rotary International's policy against political involvement, they regrouped and established throughout Mexico the only service club that blended pro-business goals with right-wing hispanidad ideology: the Club Sembradores de Amistad. This story illustrates how conservative civil society in Mexico adopted seemingly contradictory transnational influences (Catholic Hispanist thought and American service clubs) to challenge the postrevolutionary state in a less confrontational way.

This study explores the role of Rotary International and Nigeria’s brand personality and culture from the lens of Hofstede’s cultural principles and Rotary International Four Way Test. Using discourse analysis, Hofstede’s cultural principles such as power distance, individualism vs collectivism, masculinity vs femininity and uncertainty avoidance and Rotary International Four way Test (that questions if whatever act that’s said or done is the truth; fair to all concerned; if it brings goodwill and better friendship or if it is beneficial to all concerned) were used to examine the brand personalities of Nigeria and Rotary International. Findings indicate the existence of different cultural responses when both Hofstede and Four Way Test were used to examine the multicultural nature of Nigeria as it is evident that citizens have no National culture nor trust between cultures.

Résumé :
Clean water is vital for physical, social, and mental health, however, water insecurity is a public health threat for many countries. Sabana Larga is a rural community made up of approximately 230 families located in the province of Dajabon on the Northwest region of the Dominican Republic. Building a new water system has been a priority for the community for many years, however the reason for the delay in the process is the lack of funds and assistance in building such a water system. In 2016, as a Peace Corps volunteer living in the community, I asked the Saint Cloud Rotary club for financial support to build a new water system. The objective of this paper is to share my experience of building a water system in a rural community in the Dominican Republic with the Saint Cloud Rotary Club, the Dajabon Rotary Club, local engineers, and the local community. Between April 2017 and June 2017, the new water system in Sabana Larga was successfully implemented. The water system improved access to clean and safe drinking water for all families, leading to a healthier community and better quality of life. Many lessons were learned throughout the process including the importance of community involvement, understanding local customs and traditions, establishing a Water Committee, and gaining various skills.

Clinical practice and research are frequently seen as two worlds apart, in psychiatry as in the vast majority of medical specialties. In order to bridge the gap between them, economic founds and grants are required, not always easy to obtain. In this contribution we report the birth of the Association for Research in Psychiatry (ARPSY) and its main activities. ARPSY was born in May 2016 thanks to a research prize assigned to dr. Giorgio Mattei by the eight Rotary Clubs of the Province of Modena, Italy (Rotary Club Modena, Mirandola, Carpi, Sassuolo, Vignola Castelfranco Bazzano, Frignano, Modena L.A. Muratori, Castelvetro di Modena Terra dei Rangoni, that altogether make up the so-called “Ghirlandina Group”). Aim of the association is to promote mental health among students and trainees, mental health professionals, patients and their families, and among the general population by means of fund raising, in order to finance research projects, clinical interventions and educational activities.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Background and context: Aparajita Society Against Cancer is a not-for-profit 100% volunteer-based organization run by cancer survivors in Bangladesh. Aparajita provides moral, psychological, and financial supports and connects cancer patients and their families with appropriate treatment facilities. Aparajita also runs awareness and educational campaigns and screening camos for early detection. Funding always remains a critical problem in conducting its activities. Though traditional fund raising through donations remain an important means, Aparajita explored other ways of funding its activities. Aim: The aim is to build win–win partnerships with like-minded organizations to secure funding for Aparajita´s activities. Strategy/Tactics: Aparajita recognized that providing due credit to like-minded partner organizations can encourage viable partnerships to share costs, which can reduce cost of funding by Aparajita. Aparajita identified Rotary Clubs as potential partners for jointly organizing events as they are also engaged in community service and not having much activities in this area. Two of its members are Rotarians, who helped in connecting Aparajita with Rotary Clubs. Program process: Aparajita shared its activities, successes, impacts and proposed activities with 1 of the Rotary Clubs and explained our proposed mode of collaborations, including sharing of costs and impacts created by each. Then we worked out a budget and often provided the lead role to Rotary Club in organizing and requesting other clubs to join. Costs and returns: Aparajita greatly reduced its own share of costs while improving the physical targets and qualitative achievements. What was learned: We learnt that establishing partnerships in jointly organizing activities can reduce pressure on funds otherwise raised through donations. We can achieve more and increase the number of volunteers. This is very much sustainable.

The discourse of civism in Pereira, or The “sacredness” of public matters during the 20th century AbstractThe constant reference to civism is one of the most distinct characteristics of the urban history of Pereira. Similar to many Colombian cities, the ideology of civism assumes that there is a need to establish a kind of symbiosis between the city, its public spaces, and its citizens, in material as well as spiritual matters. In the case of Pereira, the author seeks to identify the most relevant aspects of the civic discourse which developed entities like the Improvement Society and the Rotary Club, through different written means, putting special emphasis on the moral values which the civic citizens (or ciudadanos de bien) must have exhibited in the process of transformation and modernization experienced throughout the 20th century. Résumé :
The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in India delivers vaccines under its policy, through government hospitals, health centers and outreach clinics. However, the national average full immunization coverage is stagnating at about 70%. The days and times of clinics are not always convenient for mothers working at home or employed outside. Moreover, vaccines not under EPI, but recommended by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), are unavailable there, forcing mothers to go to private sector immunization clinics to get them. Recognizing the local need for user-friendly immunization clinic, we designed one in the Department of Child Health. The impetus came from local demand by a civil society organization (Rotary Club of Vellore). Our immunization clinic is open every working day (8.30 am to 4.00 pm) offering both groups of vaccines. Its success is illustrated by the fact that over 7000 children per month receive immunization in this clinic. We describe its design and operation so that this model may be replicated in other urban hospitals with pediatric sections.

Résumé :
AbstractAntonio Gramsci's thought has strongly influenced the fields of IR and IPE through the work of Robert Cox, Stephen Gill, Kees van der Pijl and others, engagements often gathered (not uncontroversially) under the rubric of an ostensibly unified ‘neo-Gramscian’ position or ‘the Italian School’. The emergence of such interventions into IR/IPE has sparked controversy regarding whether Gramsci's work can be legitimately applied to ‘the international’, both from within IR and in other fields. This article examines the validity of such critiques of ‘neo-Gramscian IPE’, which we argue rely on problematic characterisations and little evidence from Gramsci's writings. More substantively, we provide an exegesis of the role of the international dimension in the construction of central categories of Gramsci's thought and his approach to nation-state formation and international organisations such as the Catholic Church and the Rotary Club, which have been regrettably neglected by all facets of these discussions. We demonstrate that Gramsci can indeed be understood as a theorist of the international, whose approach is particularly salient for the present historical conjuncture.

Introduction:The National Strategy for Disaster Resilience (NSDR) characterizes resilient communities as having strong disaster and financial mitigation strategies, strong social capacity, networks, and self-reliance. Nonprofit organizations (NPOs) embrace many characteristics of a disaster resilient community. NPOs do not operate for the profit of individual members. Community groups like Lions and Rotary Club have long histories, and while not established to respond to disasters, they frequently have heavy involvement in preparing for or recovering from, disasters.Aim:The study aims to address the question, “What is the potential role of nonprofit organizations in building community resilience to disasters?”Methods:An applied research project was carried out, using theories of resilience, social capital, and the Sendai framework to conceptualize the frameworks and guide the process. Qualitative research methods, thematic analysis, and case studies helped identify Lions, Rotary, and Neighbourhood Houses Victoria strengths, barriers, and enablers. Results:Research demonstrated how NPOs made significant contributions to building communities’ resilience to disasters. NPOs facilitate three Sendai guiding principles of engaging, empowering, and enabling the community to build disaster resilience. Actions included raising awareness to disaster risk, reducing disaster risk, helping prepare for disasters, and contributing to long term disaster recovery. NPO strengths included local knowledge, community trust, and connections, which matched characteristics listed in the NSDR for a disaster resilient community. However, barriers to participation included traditional emergency services ignoring NPOs, lack of role definition, and lack of perceived legitimacy.Discussion:As the first Australia research to scientifically analyze the contributions of these NPOs to build community resilience, before, during and after disaster, this study enhances understanding and recognition of NPOs and assists in identifying means to facilitate their disaster resilience activities and place them more effectively within Emergency Management strategic processes. Greater utilization of such assets could lead to better community outcomes.

Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a largely preventable, chronic, and progressive medical condition. However, this preliminary study has been carried out to investigate the knowledge deficit of type 2 DM in Australia, amongst young adults. To investigative knowledge deficit of type 2 DM amongst Australian adolescents. A cross-sectional survey was conducted amongst 18–25-year-olds. Using a random sampling method, 108 young Australian adults were questioned from the local Rotary club via an online survey. A combination of close-ended questions and a multiple-choice self-completed questionnaire were utilised to collate the data through the online survey. Questions were formulated by assuming that participants did not have any medical background. Questions were focused on general knowledge, knowledge of risk factors, knowledge of symptoms, knowledge on complications and knowledge about lifestyle modifications. A total of 108 Australian adolescents completed the survey, of which 64.8% was female & 35.2% was male. The study found that there is a statistically significant difference in the knowledge about diabetes factors between the sexes. None of them had Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. Analyses of data from this population indicates that that there is a deficit in knowledge amongst Australian adolescents about type 2 DM. Enhanced effort by clinicians to employ early intervention, especially at the adolescent stage by advocating for healthy lifestyle choices would help lower the burden of this disease.

Kata kunci: Stunting, Konseling, 1000 Hari Pertama Kehidupan, Pengasuhan ABSTRACT There is a golden period of human growth and development known as the First 1000 Days of Life (1000 HPK). This period occurs from the womb until the age of 2 years after birth. To support the growth and development of 1000 HPK, it is necessary to provide nutrition and intensive stimulation to the fetus and baby. When there is a lack of nutrition and severe stimulation, stunting or a condition of failure to thrive will occur. There are still many North Sulawesi people who do not understand stunting and how to prevent it. It can be seen from the number of stunting cases as much as 21.2% according to the Nutrition Status Monitoring (PSG) (Kemenkes, 2018). There needs to be a special approach to increase public understanding of stunting and its prevention. This approach is carried out through interdisciplinary collaboration: medicine and psychology. From a psychological point of view, there is counselling approach that can help to create effective communication between sender (counsellor) and receiver (people) by listening process (Corey, 2018). People in this context are the people of Radey Village and its surroundings who are vulnerable to stunting. Based on this, the service team collaborated with Yayasan Cakrawala Kesahatan (Frontiers for Health), Rotary Club Indonesia and PT SASA Inti to carry out community service for counseling training "Ayo, Cegah Stunting!" to a counselor in Radey Village, South Minahasa, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The purpose of this activity is to increase participants' understanding of stunting, counselling methods, nutrition, and the development of 1000 HPK. The results of the t-test showed that there was a significant change in understanding between the pre-test and post-test (t = 2.03; p = 0.02 < 0.05). That is, the training that is carried out effectively can increase the participants' understanding of the material provided. Keywords: Stunting, Counselling, First 1000 Days of Life, Parenting

Résumé :
Abstract Objectives The objective of the present study was to evaluate the impact of a public private multi-stake holders comprehensive intervention on the linear growth, and weight status among children 0–59 mo. Methods A cluster randomized efficacy trial of a public private multi-stake holders comprehensive intervention package designed for Anganwadi centers (n = 20, 10 experimental (E) and 10 control (C) centers, including 679 children aged 0–5 y) of the Government run ICDS program was conducted in Western India in Surat city, Gujarat, (October, 2016 -January, 2018). The intervention package included additional 100 ml milk supplementation, health education, infrastructure development and upgradation of anganwadis including pediatrician's visits as compared to only routine government activities in the control anganwadis for a period of 1 year. Data on anthropometry, demographics, household characteristics, child morbidity, feeding practices and community facilities were collected and analyzed using WHO Anthro software and SPSS version 20. Results Of the 368 only 86.9% E and 311 (74.0%, C) participants completed the study after 1 year. Children in intervention arm had lower maternal education, and poorer anthropometry status at baseline but were similar in age and household incomes. In models adjusted for maternal education, conditional on random effects, the intervention improved HAZ by 0.85 (95% CI: 0.62, 1.08), WHZ by 0.53 (95% CI: 0.33, 0.74), and MUACZ by 0.30 (95% CI: 0.19, 0.42) at 14 mo. Conclusions Comprehensive intervention packages for Anganwadis can potentially improve growth outcomes in Indian children 0–59 mo on successful implementation. Résumé :
Background: In 2020 the Health Science Center Libraries (HSCL) at the University of Florida collaborated with the Okeechobee County Public library (OCPL) on their plan to install Little Free Libraries (LFLs) within their community. It was agreed that the HSCL would provide consumer health-related materials for the Little Free Libraries and training with the goal of improving health literacy, precision medicine, and increasing rural access to consumer health materials and services. Case Presentation: Using census data, the County Health Improvement Plan, and OCPL circulation data the team identified minority population groups, potential accessibility issues, and local consumer health information needs and barriers to select appropriate resources. Additionally, partnerships were created with the local Health Department, Parks and Recreation services, the Rotary Club, and other local organizations to make the project a success. A total of 424 books were selected for the LFLs and 40 unique online resources were selected, printed, and shipped to OCPL to be used during LFL reference sessions. Technology was purchased to assist OCPL with their planned community health reference outreach sessions. HSCL created and provided online training on facilitating consumer health outreach, conducting health information reference services, and promoting community engagement for OCPL. Discussion: LFLs have become an important resource for lower-income rural families in Okeechobee. There are 7 LFLs in Okeechobee County, with a goal of eventually establishing 15 total to provide vital health resources and books. Over 2,456 items have been circulated among the 7 LFLs since May 2020. Overall, the project has been successful with positive feedback received from the community and with OCPL planning to continue to expand the project.

Integrated Movement Program in the Field of Health, Economy, Education, Infrastructure, and Environment or abbreviated Gerdu Kempling Semarang City Government was launched based on Local Regulation No. 4 of 2008 on Poverty Alleviation and Instruction of Mayor of Semarang number 054/2/2011 on Acceleration of Poverty Reduction Semarang City. This program targets poverty to fall by 2% every year. To achieve these objectives, Semarang City government cooperates with private parties, state-owned enterprises, universities and NGOs. One of the kelurahans who have implemented Gerdu Kempling program is the Palebon village. The Village get CSR from PDAM Tirta Moedal, PT Telkom and Rotary Club for Rp 200 million which is used to carry out empowerment activities. However, there are some problems that affect the outcome of the Gerdu Kempling program in the Palebon subdistrict. Based on this study, this study evaluates the performance of Gerdu Kempling program in Palebon sub-district by observing the phenomenon of input, process, output, and outcome. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with interview data collection method, questionnaire, and documentation study. The data already collected will be presented and reduced then drawn conclusions. The results of this research are that the program input is correct, but the main problem is in the process of improper policy transformation which involves short time of empowerment that is only 1 year, the types of activities that are not in accordance with the needs of the community and not sustainable, and monitoring evaluation only administrative and no measure of success in the program. These problems affect the results of community appraisal of outputs and outcomes where most people state that they are not yet self-sufficient through the Gerdu Kempling program. However, the community also assessed the greatest impact felt is the field of environment and infrastructure. Keywords: Poverty, Gerdu Kempling, Village

Résumé :
Abstract Objectives There is a need for programs that can teach children valuable skills such as gardening along with nutrition education in order to sustain good health throughout the life cycle. The Plot to Plate Community Initiative utilized practical ways for children between the ages of 5–12 years old to learn about nutrition, gardening, and other related topics. Prior to the hands-on lesson plans an initial knowledge base was investigated via pre surveys in order to later provide post surveys for evaluating the effectiveness of the program. This analysis of the program evaluation focuses on the pre-surveys. Methods Fifty-five surveys were initially collected from children participants between the ages of 5–12 at two different local community centers within the same county during the Spring and Summer months in after school and summer programs. They consisted of 10 questions focusing on basic nutrition/hydration, health and the body, gardening, food choices and food safety and hand washing which were to be covered in subsequent hands on nutrition and gardening experiences. Results Initial reports indicate that, 84% of participants have different fruits and vegetables to pick from at home, 93% wash their hands before making or eating food, 69% thought that green vegetables were the best vegetables for you, and 93% concluded that staying hydrated keeps you healthy. Alternatively, t-tests indicated participants regularly had fruits and vegetables at home and stated green vegetables were the best but didn't regularly wash food or hands (P = 0.0497, P < 0.001). Participants that knew the purpose of the digestive system were able to cite watermelon having the most water in it out of 3 choices(P = 0.266) but didn't relate that plants were started with a seed in the ground (P = 0.048). Conclusions Initial data signifies that participants started the program with a wide range of solid knowledge pertaining to the different topics. This preliminary data shows a need to continue bringing together the importance of all the topics reviewed and their interplay and importance to the participants in living a healthy lifestyle. Résumé :
Abstract Introduction In a recent study, most patients diagnosed with isolated REM sleep behavior disorder (iRBD) preferred their physician discussed their risk for developing a future neurodegenerative disorder (NDD) such as parkinsonism or dementia (PD). In the Mayo Clinic email survey, 75% would lose trust in their physician if PD-risk was not discussed following an iRBD diagnosis. For this survey, questions were designed to investigate preferences for how sleep physicians might communicate to community-based adults about risk of a NDD. Methods A survey was administered to Rotary Club attendees prior to a sleep and neurodegenerative disease presentation, with options for responses being either strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, or strongly agree. Thirty-four surveys were obtained from approximately equal numbers of men and women with estimated ages above 50 years. Personal information were not obtained (i.e., sex and age). Results The vast majority of respondents wanted their physician to ask their preference prior to sharing NDD risk (86% strongly agreed or agreed), while virtually all would lose trust in their physician if he/she did not discuss their NDD risk (97% strongly agreed/agreed). If identified with NDD risk, responders would seek out information about medications and adaptive therapies that could delay onset (97% strongly agreed/agreed), while only about half currently had a good understanding of lifestyle patterns that might help delay onset (47% strongly agreed/agreed and 47% disagreed/strongly disagreed). Not knowing when memory problems might begin would cause most responders to feel anxious (85% strongly agreed/agreed). Conclusion Those surveyed wanted their physician to ask their preference prior to sharing NDD risk, but virtually all would lose trust in their health care provider if the information was known but not shared. There appears to be a role for physicians in educating those who may be at NDD risk about interventions that could delay onset of NDD, given approximately half have a limited understanding of lifestyle patterns that could help delay onset. Further, routine follow-up for changes in prodromal NDD biomarker severity might help to reduce anxiety in the 85% of those concerned about when memory problems might begin. Résumé :
Abstract Introduction Sleep markers can assess prodromal risk for neurodegenerative disorders (NDD). In a recent study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, most isolated REM sleep behavior disorder patients preferred knowing about their risk for parkinsonism or dementia. In their email survey, patients indicated a strong preference for disclosure of prognostic NDD risk in order to spur family discussions and plan for the future. For this pilot study, the Mayo questions were modified in order to investigate the perspectives and preferences of community-based adults about potentially being at-risk of a NDD and how it might impact their lives. Methods A brief survey was administered to Rotary Club attendees prior to a presentation on sleep and neurodegenerative disease. Each question offered five responses: strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, or strongly agree. Personal identifiers were not obtained. Thirty-four surveys were completed from approximately equal numbers of older men and women with estimated ages above 50 years. Personal information were not obtained (e.g., age and sex). Results When asked whether it was important to know their NDD risk given the fact that there are no known methods to prevent or cure the disease, most (83%) strongly agreed or agreed, while only 18% preferred not to know their NDD risk. The majority felt they would be more pessimistic about their future if identified as being at risk of NDD the (62% strongly agreed/agreed). Most believed their priorities and plans for living life would change (68% strongly agreed/agreed). Further, the vast majority felt that knowing NDD risk would help them plan for the future (89% strongly agreed/agreed), including planning for health resources and support (88% strongly agreed/agreed). Conclusion Eighty-three percent of those surveyed reported they would benefit from knowing if they were at risk of NDD, even though the majority would feel more pessimistic about their future. The vast majority (89%) responded that knowing their NDD risk would help them plan for the future. These results suggest that most community adults might be receptive to future sleep screening for NDD with results. Investigations are underway to confirm these findings in a broader community-based study. Support (if any) NIA-R44AG050326

Résumé :
My father was a true blue “promdi” from Angeles City, Pampanga. A son of a humble businessman who grew up with 3 siblings. A happy-go-lucky teenager who sometimes got into trouble with the usual traps of growing up and never really cared about his future. With the carefree attitude growing up, he was given an ultimatum by my grandfather. “Son, if you won’t study and don’t get serious with your life, you will be a bum or a beggar on the street.” Having an epiphany, he started getting inspiration from an uncle who was an EENT doctor -- observing in his clinic during summer and that started the fire that built his career of becoming a doctor. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine in Manila in 1959 then flew to the United States and had seven years of specialization -- first at the Elmhurst Hospital, New York City where he became Chief Resident in Otolaryngology. Not content with his training in ENT he decided to take a second specialty in Ophthalmology, with a three-year residency in Toronto East General Hospital in Canada. He could have stayed in North America to practice but opted to return to his hometown and serve his fellow Kapampangans, establishing Clinica Henson Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Center in Angeles City. He always liked to tell stories about his residency training days in the US. They did a lot of stapedectomy cases during those times and after every procedure the surgeon whispered in the ear of the patient and asked, “Who is the president of the United States” and the patient should answer “John F. Kennedy.” A memorable situation was while he was doing a tonsillectomy, the nurse said out loud that JFK had been just been assassinated. The most memorable memento he brought home after his training was a Zeiss operating microscope. His mentors told him he should buy one and bring it home to better diagnose and manage ENT cases especially otologic procedures. They said it was a good investment since his children could also use it in their future practice. I’m happy and proud to say that we still use this microscope in our clinic OPD in Angeles City. His thirst for learning and improving his craft continued as he grew his practice. He did further training in Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery in the 70’s at the University of California at Davies Sacramento USA and Shirakabe Clinic Osaka, Japan with the guidance of his mentor Dr. Jose Mathay. He eventually set up a cosmetic surgery clinic along Roxas Blvd in the 80’s and was one of the founding members of the Philippine Society for Cosmetic Surgery. His core competence was Rhinoplasty using silicone implant during those days. My mom, a fine arts graduate and portrait artist, helped in carving and designing the silicone implants. I must say that they were a perfect combination. Most of his patients were the wives of military officers and personnel from Clark Air Force base during the 70’s and 80’s. He also practiced in St. Luke’s Medical Center, Quezon City. Passion for teaching also led him to be a Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Hospital and Angeles University Foundation. I remember one of his students in UERM told me that his lectures also included life lessons, how to enjoy your practice and how to be a well-rounded doctor. He inspired a lot of students and residents who trained under him. Growing up as the child of a doctor, my siblings and I were enthralled by his life as a medical man. He was well-respected in the community not just in medicine but also in government service. His passion to serve brought him into politics and he once served as a provincial Board Member of the province of Pampanga during the Cory Aquino administration. He was also very active in the Rotary Club both locally and internationally. He was a people person and everyone knew him. He had that certain charisma that lights up the room. As a family, we were known to be a tennis team. Everybody played including my mom and my brothers. He also enjoyed playing golf with my mom-- and don’t even ask who was the better player! Family dinner was usually spent in debates about medical and surgical cases with my mother as the referee. He really took care of his patients. He always reminded us to give the best service to our patients because they travelled from faraway places just to see you. He never gave up even on challenging cases. I was always in awe when I saw him do local anesthesia on patients undergoing tonsillectomy and Caldwell Luc procedures after my residency. He always advocated using local anesthesia on almost all his surgical procedures. Seeing patients with him in the clinic has taught me a lot but it was also interesting and challenging because we sometimes debated on treatments in front of a patient. I enjoyed travelling with him during conferences and courses abroad. He liked to update himself by observing in FESS, temporal bone and oculoplasty courses. These were our bonding moments as father and son and also with my brother Raoul who is an ophthalmologist[1]oculoplastic surgeon. One thing I miss most about him is when we used to do surgery together. When my brother and I encounter difficult or challenging cases he was always there to provide advice on how to go about it. I am indeed lucky to have a father with the same passion and vocation. I hope I can continue the legacy with my children. I hope my father remains to be an inspiration to his former students and residents. A true gentleman to his family, profession and the community he served.

Résumé :
Vargo and Lusch (V&L) have claimed that there was a movement from a goods-dominant logic to service-dominant logic in marketing. We problematise this narrative via attention to multiple strands of service discourse from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Our focus begins with the promotion of service in the economics literature. A close reading of a publication important to V&L’s account reveals the politics associated with the rise of service discourse. This is elided in their work. Our genealogy subsequently engages with the publications of A. F. Sheldon. His views are unpacked and links to the Rotary Club explicated. The evidence indicates that service discourse was relational in orientation and ethically driven, with the intertwined themes in Sheldon and Rotary’s publications generalised into an emergent ‘theory of society’ that had applicability around the world. We term this discursive formation ‘service capitalism’. This perspective was contested by a ‘counter manoeuvre’ labelled ‘service socialism’. Service socialism differed fundamentally from Sheldon’s axiology, Rotary’s service capitalism or the midpoint view detailed by Edward Filene due to its focus on the deleterious impact of the profit motive, the significance of ‘use value’, the reorientation from ownership to access-based consumption and attention to human welfare and economic security. Service socialism, we conclude, generates insights that require engagement today.

Résumé :
Handball is a sport with a high risk of injury, The prevalence of injury is only obtainable through a thorough and comprehensive analysis. One of the most commonly used test batteries for interpreting the characteristics of an injury is the Functional Movement Screen (FMSTM). It makes possible to possible to identify movement limitations and asymmetries which are believed to impact injury risk in sports. The aim of this study is to use the FMSTM to determine whether an eight-week training protocol can predict and prevent injuries in handball. The study sample comprised the fifteen members of the Borac handball club youth team. The initial measurement showed that most players (80%) had an overall score in the test battery ranging from 15 to 20 points. In addition, three players were found to have asymmetry. Only one of the three players had an overall score in the FMSTM of ≤14. The participants scored the lowest in the initial measurement for Rotary Stability, followed by Deep Squat and Hurdle Step Left. They scored the highest in the Shoulder Mobility. After the implementation of the exercise protocol for improving body mobility and stability, the final measurements showed that all the participants had an overall score in the FMSTM of >14. The value of eta squared showed that training in between the two measurements had a significant impact. At the time of testing and protocol implementation no players sustained any injuries during matches or in training. This study confirmed that the FMSTM can be used to predict injuries in sports.
