Résumé :
Multidrug efflux pumps of bacteria are involved in the resistance to various antibiotics and toxic compounds. In Rhizobium etli, a mutualistic symbiont of Phaseolus vulgaris (bean), genes resembling multidrug efflux pump genes were identified and designated rmrA and rmrB. rmrA was obtained after the screening of transposon-generated fusions that are inducible by bean-root released flavonoids. The predicted gene products of rmrAB shared significant homology to membrane fusion and major facilitator proteins, respectively. Mutants of rmrA formed on average 40% less nodules in bean, while mutants of rmrA and rmrB had enhanced sensitivity to phytoalexins, flavonoids, and salicylic acid, compared with the wild-type strain. Multidrug resistance genes emrAB from Escherichia coli complemented an rmrA mutant from R. etli for resistance to high concentrations of naringenin.

This paper introduces multiresolution analyses with composite dilations (AB-MRAs) and addresses frame multiresolution analyses with composite dilations in the setting of reducing subspaces ofL2(ℝn)(AB-RMRAs). We prove that an AB-MRA can induce an AB-RMRA on a given reducing subspaceL2(S)∨. For a general expansive matrix, we obtain the characterizations for a scaling function to generate an AB-RMRA, and the main theorems generalize the classical results. Finally, some examples are provided to illustrate the general theory.

Résumé :
SummaryIn this paper, a novel robust model reference adaptive impedance control (RMRAIC) scheme is presented for an active transtibial ankle prosthesis. The controller makes the closed loop dynamics of the prosthesis similar to a reference impedance model and provides asymptotic tracking of the response trajectory of this impedance model. The interactions between human and prosthesis are taken into account by designing a second-order reference impedance model. The proposed controller is robust against parametric uncertainties in the nonlinear dynamic model of the prosthesis. Also, the controller has robustness against bounded uncertainties due to unavailable ground reaction forces and unmeasurable feedbacks of accelerations at the socket place. Moreover, an appropriate Series Elastic Actuator (SEA) mechanism for the prosthetic ankle is included in this work and its effects are discussed. Tracking performance and stability of the closed-loop system are proven via the Lyapunov stability analysis. Using simulations on an overall amputee prosthetic foot system, the effectiveness of the proposed RMRAIC controller is investigated for the task of level ground walking.

Résumé :
This paper examines the potential of personal values-based user modeling for long tail item recommendation. Long tail items are defined as those which are not popular but are preferred by small numbers of specific users. Although recommending long tail items to relevant users is beneficial for both the providers and consumers of such items, it is known to be a challenge for most recommendation algorithms. In particular, a long tail item is one that would be purchased and/or rated by a small number of users, so it is difficult to predict its rating accurately. This paper assumes that the influence of personal values becomes more obvious when users evaluate long tail items, and examines it through offline experiment. The Rating Matching Rate (RMRate) has been proposed in order to incorporate users’ personal values into recommender systems. As the RMRate models personal values as the weight of an item’s attribute, it is easy to incorporate into existing recommendation algorithms. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of long tail item recommendation; Experimental result shows that personal values-based user modeling can recommend less popular items while maintaining precision.

Résumé :
In the field of color texture segmentation, region-level Markov random field model (RMRF) has become a focal problem because of its efficiency in modeling the large-range spatial constraints. However, the RMRF defined on a single scale cannot describe the un-stationary essence of the image, which highly limits its robustness. Hence, by combining wavelet transformation and the RMRF model, we present a multi-scale RMRF (MsRMRF) model in wavelet domainin this paper. In the Bayesian framework, the proposed model seamlessly integrates the multi-scale information stemmed from both the original image and the region-level spatial constraints. Therefore, the new model can accurately describe the characteristics of different kinds of texture. Based on MsRMRF, an unsupervised segmentation algorithm is designed for segmenting color texture images. Both synthetic color texture images and remote sensing images are employed in the comparative experiments, and the experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain more accurate segmentation results than the competitors.

Résumé :
The order reduction method is an important approach to optimize higher-order binary Markov random fields (HoMRFs), which are widely used in information theory, machine learning and image analysis. It transforms an HoMRF into an equivalent and easier reduced first-order binary Markov random field (RMRF) by elaborately setting the coefficients and auxiliary variables of RMRF. However, designing order reduction methods is difficult, and no previous study has investigated this design issue. In this paper, we propose an order reduction design framework to study this problem for the first time. Through study, we find that the design difficulty mainly lies in that the coefficients and variables of RMRF must be set simultaneously. Therefore, the proposed framework decomposes the design difficulty into two processes, and each process mainly considers the coefficients or auxiliary variables of RMRF. Some valuable properties are also proven. Based on our framework, a new family of 14 order reduction methods is provided. Experiments, such as synthetic data and image denoising, demonstrate the superiority of our method.

Résumé :
This study investigated the associations between relative telomere length (RTL) and resting metabolic rate (RMR), resting fat oxidation (RFO), and aerobic capacity and whether oxidative stress and inflammation are the underlying mechanisms in sedentary women. We also aimed to determine whether the correlations depend on age and obesity. Sixty-eight normal weight and 66 obese women participated in this study. After adjustment for age, energy expenditure, energy intake, and education level, the RTL of all participants was negatively correlated with absolute RMR (RMRAB) and serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) concentration, and positively correlated with maximum oxygen consumption (V˙O2max) (all p < 0.05). After additional adjustment for adiposity indices and fat-free mass (FFM), RTL was positively correlated with plasma vitamin C concentration (p < 0.05). Furthermore, after adjustment for fasting blood glucose concentration, RTL was negatively correlated with age and positively correlated with V˙O2max (mL/kg FFM/min). We found that normal weight women had longer RTL than obese women (p < 0.001). We suggest that RTL is negatively correlated with RMRAB and positively correlated with aerobic capacity, possibly via antioxidant and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. Furthermore, age and obesity influenced the associations. We provide useful information for the management of promotion strategies for health-related physical fitness in women.

Résumé :
Purpose This research intends to look at the regional characteristics through an analysis of crowd preference and confidence, and investigates how regional characteristics are going to affect human beings at all aspects in a scenario of sharing economy. The purpose of this paper is to introduce an approach to provide an understandable rating score. Furthermore, the paper aims to find the relationships between different features classified in this study by using machine learning methods. Furthermore, due to the importance of performance of methods, the performance of the features is also improved. Design/methodology/approach The Rating Matching Rate (RMRate) approach is proposed to provide score in terms of simplicity and understandability for all features. The relationships between features can be extracted from accommodation data set using decision tree (DT) algorithms (J48, HoeffdingTree, and REPTree). Usability of these methods was evaluated using different metrics. Two techniques, “ClassBalancer” and “SpreadSubsample,” are applied to improve the performance of algorithms. Findings Experimental outcomes using the RMRate approach show that the scores are very easy to understand. Three property types are very popular almost in all of selected countries in this study (“apartment”, “house”, and “bed and breakfast”). The findings also indicate that “Entire home/apt” is the most common room-type and 4.5 and 5 star-rating are the most given star-rating by users. The proposed DT algorithms can find the relationships between features significantly. In addition, applied CB and SS techniques could improve the performance of algorithms efficiently. Originality/value This study gives precise details about the guests’ preferences and hosts’ preferences. The proposed techniques can effectively improve the performance in predicting the behavior of users in sharing economy. The findings can also help group decision making in P2P platforms efficiently.

This work presents a contribution to the study of AC Power Sources, where a prototype s development is presented. The stages that compose the system, including converter topology, filter, instrumentation and controller, are presented. The developed prototype is a three-phase four-wire source, which uses a four-leg voltage source inverter. This topology increases the flexibility for unbalanced waveforms generation or unbalanced load conditions, also simplifying the control problem of the process. This work first looks for justifying the use and the study of AC Power Sources, in this sense, some examples of tests and norms, whose tests demand its use, are given. The applications are in general related to electrical and electronic equipments and for driving electromechanical plants such as shakers. In this sense, AC Power Sources are equipment that can be used both in industry applications and didactic or research laboratories. In practically all applications, it is shown that good performance in waveforms generation is necessary. This performance is related to the ability for waveforms generation with low harmonic distortion even in conditions of variable frequency or amplitude and with nonlinear loads behavior. In this way, the use of an adequate converter topology is not enough, are too necessary controllers to guarantee performance for the system, even in adverse load conditions or in presence of unmodeled dynamics. The unmodeled dynamics are derived from some stages that compose the system, but they are generally related to the uncertainties on the model of the plant and load. Then, this work not only describes the implemented prototype and topological relative questions but also applies a Robust Model Reference Adaptive Control (RMRAC) for the plant control. This technique improves the robustness in the closed loop system even under presence of unmodeled dynamics and disturbances. The controller makes use of a Gradient type algorithm for parametric adaptation with four adapted parameters, which leads to a new error equation that is used for the controller s implementation

SHARMA, VIPIN KUMAR. « Modeling and Analysis of Rotational Magnetorheological Abrasive Flow Finishing Process ». Thesis, 2015. http://dspace.dtu.ac.in:8080/jspui/handle/repository/14308.

Résumé :
Magneto rheological abrasive flow finishing (MRAFF) is used to finish complex internal and external geometries with the help of magnetorheological polishing fluid. Such finishing operations play a crucial role in manufacturing process of machine parts. The cost escalates sharply when the requirement is to achieve surface roughness values near nano levels. The need for finishing is to avoid power losses due to friction, increase the wear resistance and to provide a long serviceable life to the equipment. MRAFF is a time consuming process and any effort to reduce the process time even marginally saves production time and cost of the finished product. Researchers have often strived to improve finishing rate and MRR. An attempt has been made to overcome the said limitations, a new finishing process called rotational magneto rheological abrasive flow finishing (R-MRAFF) is developed, which is a combination of rotational abrasive flow machining (R-AFM) and magneto rheological finishing (MRF), for nano finishing of parts even with complicated geometry for a wide range of industrial applications. Rotational magneto rheological abrasive flow finishing (R-MRAFF) process provides better control over rheological properties of abrasive laden magneto rheological finishing medium. Magneto rheological (MR) polishing fluid comprises of carbonyl iron powder and silicon carbide abrasives dispersed in the viscoplastic base of grease and mineral oil. It exhibits change in rheological behaviour in presence of external magnetic field. This smart behaviour of MR-polishing fluid and centrifugal force due to rotation of rams is utilized to precisely control the finishing forces, hence final surface finish. In the present work, an attempt has been made to analyze the total force acting on the single grain at different magnetic field strength and rotational speed and a model for the prediction of volumetric material removal and surface roughness has also been presented. A three dimensional modeling is done to calculate force acting on the single grain. In order to rotate the magnetoreheological polishing fluid (MRPF), rams of the machining system are joined together with the help of a connecting rod. Modeling was done on brass work piece at different magnetic field strengths and at different rotational speeds to observe its effect on final surface roughness and volumetric material removal. No measurable changes in surface roughness a observed after finishing at zero magnetic field and at zero rotational speed. However, for the same number of cycles, the roughness reduces gradually with the increase of magnetic field and rotational speed. This validates the role of centrifugal force and rheological behaviour of magneto rheological polishing fluid in performing finishing action. The present study shows that with the rotation of MR polishing fluid, an extra component of centrifugal force (Fc) adds up to the resultant force which increases the volumetric removal rate and surface finish as compared to other finishing processes.

The influence of phospholipids based formulations on the in vitro percutaneous penetration of niacinamide was examined using abdominal skin of Wistar mouse mounted on Franz-type diffusion chamber. Transepidermal permeation through excised mouse skin and skin deposition of niacinamide from different formulations were assessed and compared. Liposome in water solution did not enhance the skin permeability of niacinamide, but when ethanol (20% v/v) was present in the donor with SPC-vitE or SPC-sc, permeability of niacinamide was increased. Liposome size and entrapment efficiency were determined. The encapsulation efficiency of niacinamide was found to be very low, however, the amount of absorbed niacinamide was nearly independent of the encapsulation and the vesicle size. Based on the results obtained, liposome components in solution have additive effect with a possible synergism in some cases.

Résumé :
This article presents a discrete robust adaptive control structure, gathering a Robust Model Reference Adaptive Controller (RMRAC) with an adaptive Super-Twisting Sliding Mode (STSM) controller. The resulting control structure is applied to current control of a voltage-fed three-phase inverter, connected to the grid by an LCL filter. The main contribution of this control proposal is its adaptability, maintaining the robustness characteristics of the controllers that compose it with good regulation performance. Moreover, as the adaptive Sliding Mode action is high-order (Super-Twisting), the chattering phenomenon is significantly mitigated. Thereby, its implementation is simplified, using a first order reference model. For this, the dynamics of the LCL filter capacitors are neglected during the modeling process, considering it as an additive unmodeled dynamics. To validate the viability of the proposed control structure, Hardware in the Loop (HIL) results are presented.
