Résumé :
Remote lab systems are one of the essential requirements for an increased academic productivity in the modern digital world. These systems support and facilitate effective migration from face-to-face classroom education to online education. Digital technology applications and processes are required to easily build a remote lab system. With the availability of multiple access techniques, users can comfortably share laboratory equipment among themselves. The sharing of resources using the remote lab system is highly required for a smooth deployment and implementation of online education. This paper therefore proposed and tested some techniques that combine Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in remote lab systems. The tested techniques are Multi-Carrier Direct Sequence CDMA (MC-DS-CDMA), Multi-Tone CDMA (MT-CDMA), Multi-Carrier CDMA (MC-CDMA), and Spread Spectrum Multi-Carrier Multiple Access (SS-MC-MA). The first step proposed in this work had to do with the setting of the comparison criteria. At the second step, the solutions cited previously in the real equipment was tested and the best option that met the criteria was selected for the eLab system since the performance technique varies with the laboratory equipment characteristic. The four techniques that were tested demonstrated high performance in telecommunications and online laboratory systems. The implementation of these techniques will benefit universities in several ways, which include reduction of remote lab cost and optimization of sharing of online resources among users. This will further provide students with conducive learning environment by addressing the challenges of reservation and time slot limit. It is therefore recommended that MC-CDMA should be integrated into remote lab system.

Résumé :
For people in remote regions, limited access to specialists like cardiologists can turn treatable conditions into a serious threat. In this work, a heart diagnostic system capable of collecting and analyzing an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal in a remote location and sending the results to be reviewed by a cardiologist is designed and implemented. This system is controlled using a Raspberry Pi 4 microcomputer, with a physical subsystem designed to collect the ECG signal. This signal is utilized to diagnose certain heart conditions using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based system. A touchscreen mini-terminal guides the user through collecting and compiling patient data, sending this data to the AI agent for classification, and then storing and transferring the results to another location for further examination. A user-friendly website is implemented to give the health professionals remote access to the collected data. The entire system is housed in a 3-D printed enclosure for protection. It is important to note that the AI system is trained using multiple data sets obtained from Physionet, as the collection of training data using this system is a multiyear project requiring a staff of health professionals, which is beyond the scope of this project.

Résumé :
The relevance Due to constantly changing market conditions, high decision-making speed, multitasking and the need to reduce risks, more and more modern approaches are required in the organizational activities of enterprises. Currently, companies have begun to actively migrate to the digital space, creating and developing their information systems with remote access support. According to the survey results of the TAdviser portal, 35 % of companies have transferred more than 50 % of their employees to a remote or hybrid work format. Another 18 % of respondents shared that in their companies 25 % to 50 % of employees work remotely. However, the control of robotic systems requires periodic monitoring. To manage such platforms, enterprises need to create interfaces and provide them with remote access. Therefore, using a chatbot as an interface for remote access to mobile robots can provide an alternative solution to this problem. The use of chatbots provides user service around the clock, which allows you to instantly receive the necessary information, collect data and automate the process of interaction between the user and the robot. Aim of research The main aim of the research is to explore the possibility of using a chatbot to provide remote access to inaccessible or hard-to-reach places for humans. Design and create an information system for research. Research methods To achieve the study aim, it was decided to conduct a physical simulation. A certain technical composition for the mobile platform was chosen and a chat bot was written to interact with the robot. Results A chatbot has been developed and manufactured with which you can control the movement of the robot and connect to its camera. It was decided to use Python as the main programming language. The platform for the implementation of the information product is Telegram, which is multiplatform, its versions are available for iOS, Android, Windows, Linux. In addition, it is possible to use the messenger through a web browser.

Résumé :
Digital transformation and the utilization of Industrial IoT (IIoT) introduces numerous interconnected devices to factories increasing among others the challenge of managing their software versions and giving attackers new possibilities to exploit various software vulnerabilities. Factory networks were earlier isolated from the Internet. However, this separation is no longer valid and there can be connections that allow intruders to penetrate into information systems of factories. Another issue is that although factories typically are physically isolated, it is not necessarily safe to assume that physical security is in good shape as the novel supply networks comprise subcontracted activities and temporary work force. Another threat can also arise from unauthorized monitoring of devices and the unauthorized replacement of existing ones. Based on the previous, it is crucial that IIoT security should be built into factories of the future (FoF) right from the design phase and even low-end devices need to be supported. Trusted computing concept called remote attestation should be used. Remote attestation allows remote parties to verify the integrity of each system component. System components should include trusted hardware components that can be used to measure executable software. The term measurement means calculating the cryptographic hash of the binary component before passing control to it. Trusted hardware components should also have a mechanism to protect the integrity of the measurement list and cryptographic keys that can be used to sign integrity assertions. The verifier part should have a storage of reference integrity metrics identifying the expected values of these measurements. Deploying trusted computing and remote attestation concepts to industrial automation is not straightforward. Even if it is possible to use remote attestation with suitable hardware components, it is not clear how remote attestation should be integrated with various operational technology (OT) industrial automation protocols. Approaches to use remote attestation with existing industrial automation protocols (e.g., OPC UA) is discussed. Advanced identity and access management (e.g., OAuth2, OpenID Connect) can be used to combine integrity measurements with device identity information so that the remote attestation process is triggered by authentication during the first transaction. The focus is on machine-to-machine (M2M) communications with immutable device identities and integrity evidence transfer.

Résumé :
Distributing Big Data for science is pushing the capabilities of networks and computing systems. However, the fundamental concept of copying data from one machine to another has not been challenged in collaborative science. As recent storage system development uses modern fabrics to provide faster remote data access with lower overhead, traditional data movement using Data Transfer Nodes must cope with the paradigm shift from a store-and-forward model to streaming data with direct storage access over the networks. This study evaluates NVMe-over-TCP (NVMe-TCP) in a long-distance network using different file systems and configurations to characterize remote NVMe file system access performance in MAN and WAN data moving scenarios. We found that NVMe-TCP is more suitable for remote data read than remote data write over the networks, and using RAID0 can significantly improve performance in a long-distance network. Additionally, a fine-tuning file system can improve remote write performance in DTNs with a long-distance network.

Résumé :
The quick advances of Cloud and the advent of Fog computing impose more and more critical demand for computing and data transfer of low latency onto the underlying distributed computing infrastructure. Remote direct memory access (RDMA) technology has been widely applied for its low latency of remote data access. However, RDMA gives rise to a host of challenges in accelerating in-memory key–value stores, such as direct remote memory writes, making the remote system more vulnerable. This study presents an in-memory key–value system based on RDMA, named Craftscached, which enables: (1) buffering remote memory writes into a communication cache memory to eliminate direct remote memory writes to the data memory area; (2) dividing the communication cache memory into RDMA-writable and RDMA-readable memory zones to reduce the possibility of data corruption due to stray memory writes and caching data into an RDMA-readable memory zone to improve the remote memory read performance; and (3) adopting remote out-of-place direct memory write to achieve high performance of remote read and write. Experimental results in comparison with Memcached indicate that Craftscached provides a far better performance: (1) in the case of read-intensive workloads, the data access of Craftscached is about 7–43[Formula: see text] and 18–72.4% better than those of TCP/IP-based and RDMA-based Memcached, respectively; (2) the memory utilization of small objects is more efficient with only about 3.8% memory compaction overhead.

Résumé :
Federated, secure, standardized, scalable, and transparent mechanism to access and share resources, particularly data resources, across organizational boundaries that does not require application modification and does not disrupt existing data access patterns has been needed for some time in the computational science community. The Global Federated File System (GFFS) addresses this need and is a foundational component of the NSF-funded eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) program. The GFFS allows user applications to access (create, read, update, delete) remote resources in a location-transparent fashion. Existing applications, whether they are statically linked binaries, dynamically linked binaries, or scripts (shell, PERL, Python), can access resources anywhere in the GFFS without modification (subject to access control). In this paper we present an overview of the GFFS and its most common use cases: accessing data at an NSF center from a home or campus, accessing data on a campus machine from an NSF center, directly sharing data with a collaborator at another institution, accessing remote computing resources, and interacting with remote running jobs. We present these uses cases and how they are realized using the GFFS.

Résumé :
Recent achievements in high-performance computing significantly narrow the performance gap between single and multi-node computing, and open up opportunities for systems with remote shared memory. The combination of in-memory storage, remote direct memory access and remote calls requires rethinking how data organized, protected and queried in distributed systems. Reviewed models let us implement new interpretations of distributed algorithms allowing us to validate different approaches to avoid race conditions, decrease resource acquisition or synchronization time. In this paper, we describe the data model for mixed memory access with analysis of optimized data structures. We also provide the result of experiments, which contain a performance comparison of data structures, operating with different approaches, evaluate the limitations of these models, and show that the model does not always meet expectations. The purpose of this paper to assist developers in designing data structures that will help to achieve architectural benefits or improve the design of existing distributed system.

Résumé :
With the remarkable development and progress of earth-observation techniques, remote sensing data keep growing rapidly and their volume has reached exabyte scale. However, it’s still a big challenge to manage and process such huge amounts of remote sensing data with complex and diverse structures. This paper designs and realizes a distributed storage system for large-scale remote sensing data storage, access, and retrieval, called RSIMS (remote sensing images management system), which is composed of three sub-modules: RSIAPI, RSIMeta, RSIData. Structured text metadata of different remote sensing images are all stored in RSIMeta based on a set of uniform models, and then indexed by the distributed multi-level Hilbert grids for high spatiotemporal retrieval performance. Unstructured binary image files are stored in RSIData, which provides large scalable storage capacity and efficient GDAL (Geospatial Data Abstraction Library) compatible I/O interfaces. Popular GIS software and tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, rasterio) can access data stored in RSIData directly. RSIAPI provides users a set of uniform interfaces for data access and retrieval, hiding the complex inner structures of RSIMS. The test results show that RSIMS can store and manage large amounts of remote sensing images from various sources with high and stable performance, and is easy to deploy and use.

Résumé :
<p>Due to the vast increase in global industrial output, rural to urban drift and the over-utilization of land and sea resources, the quality of water available to people has deteriorated greatly. Before the sensor based approach to water quality monitoring, water quality was tested by collecting the samples of water and experimentally analyzing it in the laboratories. However, in today, with time being a scarce resource, the traditional method of water quality testing is not efficient anymore. To tackle this issue, several electronic (microcontroller and sensor based) water quality monitoring systems were developed in the past decade. However, an in depth study of this current water quality testing technology shows that there are some limitations that should be taken into consideration. Therefore, an automatic, remote, and low cost water quality monitoring system has been developed. This system consists of a core microcontroller, multiple sensors, GSM module, LCD display screen, and an alarm subsystem. The quality of water is read from the physical world through the water quality testing sensors and sent to the microcontroller. The data is then analyzed by the microcontroller and the result is displayed on the LCD screen on the device. At the same time, another copy of the sensor readings is sent remotely to the user’s mobile phone in the form of SMS. If an abnormal water quality parameter is detected by any sensor, the alarm system will turn on the respective red LED for that parameter and the buzzer will give warning sound. At the same time, the abnormality of the water parameter is reported to the user through SMS. The system is aimed to be used for wide applications and by all categories of users. It can facilitate the process of water quality monitoring autonomously and with low cost; to help people improve their quality of drinking water, household water supplies and aquaculture farms, especially in rural areas where residents do not have access to standardized water supply and suffer from different diseases caused by contaminated water.</p>

Résumé :
Remote laboratories have been developed at many universities worldwide to provide students with access to apparatus and experiments via the Internet around the clock, thus giving partner institutions the opportunity to share resources, expensive equipment and specialized laboratories, whether within a single country or at regional and international levels. Universities usually implement learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle and Blackboard to enable students to interact, carry out learning activities and access remote labs. However, remote labs generate enormous amounts of data, which is stored, processed, analyzed, and accessed using centralized systems that lack transparency, traceability, security features, trustworthiness, and reliability. In addition, they are vulnerable to the single point of failure problem due to centralization. The application of blockchain technology in remote labs is proposed as a promising solution for future online learning as it combines a new pedagogical approach with various state-of-the-art technologies in an era that embraces Education 4.0 as the education norm. Furthermore, a novel blockchain-based framework for remote labs allows data streaming and transfer in a decentralized, transparent, traceable, reliable, secure, and trustful manner, where only authorized peers can join or access the network, thereby providing privacy of students’ data files and reports. An initial pilot of an Ethereum-based remote lab show promising result for effective management of online experiments, originally hosted in a Moodle LMS.

Résumé :
The increased dependency on the World Wide Web by both laboratories and their customers has led LIMS developers to take advantage of thin-client web applications that provide both remote data entry and manipulation, along with remote reporting functionality. Use of an LIMS through a web browser allows a person to interact with a distant application, providing both remote administration and real-time analytical result delivery from virtually anywhere in the world. While there are many benefits of web-based LIMS applications, some concern must be given to these new methods of system architecture before justifying them as a suitable replacement for their traditional client-server systems. Developers and consumers alike must consider the security aspects of introducing a wide area network capable system into a production environment, as well as the concerns of data integrity and usability.
