One of the most important aspects of photovoltaic modules is reliability for future uses, that is, a certain module will last certain number of years in use (generally 30 or 35 years). Reliability yields from excellent qualification tests on photovoltaic (PV) modules. Testing for reliability identifies unknown failure mechanisms and whether modules are susceptible to known failure mechanisms. This paper illustrates techniques of outdoor measurements and qualification characterization to know PV module conditions for commercial uses. Matrix methods are used for energy prediction. Failure material tests, using digital imaging and thermography, have also been conducted.

Abstract. Previous research has supported the use of Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk) for online data collection in individual differences research. Although MTurk Masters have reached an elite status because of strong approval ratings on previous tasks (and therefore gain higher payment for their work) no research has empirically examined whether researchers actually obtain higher quality data when they require that their MTurk Workers have Master status. In two different online survey studies (one using a personality test and one using a cognitive abilities test), the psychometric reliability of MTurk data was compared between a sample that required a Master qualification type and a sample that placed no status-level qualification requirement. In both studies, the Master samples failed to outperform the standard samples.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate how the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is viewed by students and teachers and its value as a vehicle to promote self-directed independent learning. Design/methodology/approach – A mixed methods approach was adopted in three stages. Stages 1 and 2 structured questionnaires were issued to students and teachers were interviewed in a third and final stage. The second questionnaire relating to students’ views were analysed for statistical reliability using the χ2-test. Findings – The research suggests that EPQ is a possible vehicle to promote independent learning and negates some of the more negative aspects associated with classroom-based learning. Research limitations/implications – This research was based on research undertaken at two Sixth Form Colleges (SFCs). Although insightful and a useful description, it cannot claim to reflect the experience of EPQ at every institution in the SFC sector. Originality/value – The SFC sector is rarely reported on in the academic literature. This paper also reports on a relatively new and important initiative within the sector and offers a possible view of the future in the classroom.

Résumé :
AbstractIn recent years, reducing cost and lead time in product development and qualification has become decisive to stay competitive in the space industry. Introducing Additive Manufacturing (AM) could potentially be beneficial from this perspective, but high demands on product reliability and lack of knowledge about AM processes make implementation challenging. Traditional approaches to qualification are too expensive if AM is to be used for critical applications in the near future. One alternative approach is to consider qualification as a design factor in the early phases of product development, potentially reducing cost and lead time for development and qualification as products are designed to be qualified. The presented study has identified factors that drive qualification activities in the space industry and these “qualification drivers” serve as a baseline for a set of proposed strategies for developing “Design for Qualification” guidelines for AM components. The explicit aim of these guidelines is to develop products that can be qualified, as well as appropriate qualification logics. The presented results provide a knowledge-base for the future development of such guidelines.

Résumé :
This paper reviews the most significant qualification and reliability achievements obtained, over the last 6 years, by the scientific community for hybrid bonding-based interconnects (HB) also named Cu–Cu or Cu/SiO2 bonding. First, the definition of words qualification, robustness and reliability are given to avoid misunderstanding about the published results. Second, the five potential threats (moisture ingress, thermomechanical stresses, electromigration, Cu diffusion, dielectric breakdown) are presented. Finally, the publications of six industrials or Research and Technology Organizations are summarized and discussed. Most of the published data are related to qualification results (pass or fail). Few studies published in-depth studies, mainly on electromigration (Black’s parameters extraction and failure analysis) and copper diffusion (electrical and analytical characterizations). To conclude, once the manufacturing issues (surface preparation, alignment…) have been solved, this technology is robust and reliable at pitches > 1 μm as it reacts, roughly, like a conventional back-end of line (BEoL) interconnect.

Résumé :
In its most basic form, Simple Reliabilism states that: a belief is justified iff it is formed as the result of a reliable belief-forming process. But so-called New Evil Demon (NED) cases have been given as counterexamples. A common response has been to complicate reliabilism from its simplest form to accommodate the basic reliabilist position, while at the same time granting the force of NED intuitions. But what if despite initial appearances, Simple Reliabilism, without qualification, is compatible with the NED intuition? What we can call the Dispositionalist Response to the New Evil Demon problem is fascinating because it contends just that: Simple Reliabilism is fully compatible with the NED intuition. It is claimed that all we need to do to recognize their compatibility is appreciate that reliability is a dispositional property. In this paper I shall critically evaluate the Dispositionalist proposal.

Résumé :
Threshold voltage (VT) instability remains an important issue for the performance, reliability, and qualification of SiC power MOSFET devices. The direct application of existing reliability test standards to SiC power MOSFETs can in some cases result in an inconsistent pass/fail response for a given device. To ensure SiC MOSFET device reliability, some modifications to existing test methods may be necessary..

Résumé :
The use of reliability growth and test-analyze-and-fix (TAAF) testing has become widespread within the Department of Defense as complements to and substitutes for formal reliability qualification testing (RQT). Many different models, tools and techniques for their use have been presented in the literature, military standards and handbooks. Still, many reliability experts within DoD question the utility and cost effectiveness of reliability growth testing and describe it as rewarding contractors for sloppy initial designs. This paper presents an overview of a Rome Air Development Center (RADC) in-house study whose objective was to fully investigate the subject of reliability growth testing to enable a better understanding by reliability engineers as well as to present guidance for its potential application in the development of Air Force systems.

Résumé :
Abstract Flip Chip Land Grid Array (FcLGA) packages are widely used in Mobile product applications due to their thin form factor and performance. Assembly process qualification requires careful selection of materials and optimization of reflow processes to make consistent and reliable product. The fcLGA typically uses an organic substrate on which the die is reflowed instead of the copper lead frame used in QFN packages. This requires assessment of CTE mismatch and controlled reflow processes to prevent bump separation [1]. The paper reviews the selection of substrate, optimization of assembly process and reliability testing conducted for package qualification

Résumé :
This paper examines the ability of educational qualifications and ICT knowledge to predict the teaching competence of teachers in the technical school setting in Osun State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of 40 teachers and 100 students in technical schools from two Local Government Areas (LGAs) were selected from Osun State which formed the participants for the study. Qualification and ICT knowledge were measured using assessment questionnaire and technical subject teaching competence was assessed by students’ evaluation of their teachers’ competencies in teaching with reliability coefficient of 0.85. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, frequency counts and linear regression analysis statistic. The result revealed that teachers were proficient in using smartphones, email and internet; while they ranked disc player, film stripes, smart boards and projectors least among facilities they have proficiency in. The result revealed that students’ evaluation of teachers’ competence was low. The study also showed that teachers’ qualification had a positive correlation with their teaching competence while their knowledge of ICT had a negative correlation with their competency in technical secondary schools in Osun State. It was recommended that technical schools should ensure that their teachers upgraded themselves in terms of qualifications, certification and knowledge in ICT in order to meet the demands of technical education.

Résumé :
Package qualification and verification (PQV) of advanced electronic packaging and interconnect technologies and various other types of qualification hardware for the Mars Exploration Rover/Mars Science Laboratory flight projects has been performed to enhance the mission assurance. The qualification of hardware (engineering camera and platinum resistance thermometer, PRT) under extreme cold temperatures has been performed with reference to various project requirements. The flight-like packages, sensors, and subassemblies have been selected for the study to survive three times (3×) the total number of expected temperature cycles resulting from all environmental and operational exposures occurring over the life of the flight hardware including all relevant manufacturing, ground operations, and mission phases. Qualification has been performed by subjecting above flight-like qual hardware to the environmental temperature extremes and assessing any structural failures or degradation in electrical performance due to either overstress or thermal cycle fatigue. Experiments of flight-like hardware qualification tests are described in this paper.

Résumé :
Disruptive technologies face a lack of Reliability Engineering Standards and Physics of Failure (PoF) heritage. Devices based on GaN, SiC, Optoelectronics or Deep-Submicron nanotechnologies or 3D packaging techniques for example are suffering a vital absence of screening methods, qualification and reliability standards when anticipated to be used in Hi-Rel application. To prepare the HiRel industry for just-in-time COTS, reliability engineers must define proper and improved models to guarantee infant mortality free, long term robust equipment that is capable of surviving harsh environments without failure. Furthermore, time-to-market constraints require the shortest possible time for qualification. Breakthroughs technologies are generally industrialized for short life consumer application (typically smartphone or new PCs with less than 3 years lifecycle). How shall we qualify these innovative technologies in long term Hi-Rel equipment operation? More Than Moore law is the paradigm of updating what are now obsolete, inadequate screening methods and reliability models and Standards to meet these demands. A State of the Art overview on Quality Assurance, Reliability Standards and Test Methods is presented in order to question how they must be adapted, harmonized and rearranged. Here, we quantify failure rate models formulated for multiple loads and incorporating multiple failure mechanisms to disentangle existing reliability models to fit the 4.0 industry needs?

Résumé :
The article proposes a qualimetric method for assessing the quality of such hazardous production facilities of a metallurgical enterprise as special bridge metallurgical cranes. The supporting structure of the crane is investigated, structurally divided into four main groups of structures and fifteen elements, which carry all the information about the dominant properties of the operation of the crane. Two indicators of the quality of the crane structure were introduced: complex and integral. For a complex function, the probability density function of the reliability levels of structural elements in the form of a uniform law is taken. For integral - an indicator of the risk of an accident, since most of the cranes under consideration are operated outside the warranty period. The obtained quantitative data on the reliability levels that structural elements should have is valuable. The investigated qualimetric method will allow experts to make the right scientific and technical decisions and, ultimately, will bring a significant economic effect that can be comparable to the price of a new crane and its commissioning. Special cranes of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine were considered. The article continues to develop studies of qualimetric science for assessing the quality of products and various objects of a metallurgical enterprise of the scientific school of the Magnitogorsk State Technical University named after V.I. G.I. Nosov.

Résumé :
This study attempted to investigate the perception of the technical qualification system for waxing. Waxing is one of the tasks done by aestheticians. For this study, a questionnaire was performed among aesthetic salon employees. A total of 220 copies were distributed, and 208 were used for the final analysis. Empirical analysis was performed to assess the significance level. For statistical analysis, validity, and reliability were analyzed, using SPSS WIN 21.0. Furthermore, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan’s test were conducted, and the results found the following: For the perception of the national technical qualification system and waxing, a statistically significant difference was found. In the perception of the issuance of new national waxing licenses, no statistically significant difference was observed. When asked why such new national technical qualifications are needed, ‘an independent national waxing license is needed depending on the segmentation and the professionalization of waxing’ was the most common response. This study examined how aesthetic salon employees view waxing. It is anticipated that the study results would be used as basic data for studies on the issuance of new national waxing licenses.
