Although there are theoretical and empirical research on modular consortium, studies on the relationship between modulists, the flow of information and the Interorganizational Cost Management (IOCM) in modular consortium arrangements are embryonic. The modular consortium and IOCM induce companies to overcome organizational boundaries in order to allow the entire value chain becomes more efficient. This thesis, configured how a Case Study with Embedded Objects, defends the possibility of accepting that the association between modular consortium and IOCM promotes mutual learning and further reducing overall operating costs in the automotive value chain, rather than taken alone. It is understood that the approaches adopted by the modular consortium in Resende (modularization and IOCM) are complementary and include several common factors, such as the sharing of R&D projects, meshing of its employees in other companies, integrated information systems, knowledge transfer as well as the need to develop a more efficient inter management. In this context, modular consortium is on a facilitator of the IOCM process because the allowable cost of the components is defined by inter-working teams, which include product design, engineering, procurement and production engineering. Thus, companies have shown a high interdependent relationship. But it is evident that not always, the benefits are shared between all the actors involved, due to the asymmetry of power between MAN and modulists. Regarding the exchange of the findings indicate a strong occurrence cost information of this initiative, but only the modulists for MAN. The empirical evidence obtained in this study denote the use of power by MAN to its modulists. The use of power may favor disclosure by modulists cost data, but this does not guarantee the success of IOCM in all its fullness. This is a limitation to the applicability of IOCM through open book accounting.

Texte intégralObjective: Intellectual capital is a strategic resource that plays an important role in the value creation process. Taking into account that the twentieth century is a century of ideas, knowledge, innovations, information and changes, intellectual capital has been an interesting topic over the past few decades. At the same time, the financial market has become influential in the global market, so intellectual capital found a very important role for itself. Most of the research is aimed at identifying the relation between intellectual capital and short-term financial performance, such as profits, market shares, turnovers, or market value. This research aims to fill the gap in the literature that relates to the total book value as a final performance. By improving the total book value of a company and creating new assets through the capitalization of investments in intellectual capital components, a company generates benefits on a long-term basis. Methodology: We included 498 and 475 French companies in a complex correlation statistical analysis in two main research models respectively. The financial information was obtained from the financial database “Point Risk” for the purpose of addressing the main research question. The model used in the study is the Intellectual Capital Transformation Evaluating Model (ICTEM) developed by Molodchik et al. (2012). This model investigates the process of intellectual capital transformation in the performance of a company.Findings: Companies transform and capitalize their investments in intellectual capital components into concrete assets in the total book value. The three main intellectual capital components that companies invest in are: human capital, organizational capital and relational capital. Implications and limitations: The main contribution of our research is the identification of the link between investments in intellectual capital components and a company’s total book value as final performance. Until now, the total book value as company final performance has not been used in correlation with intellectual capital and its investments. There are limitations of the study. One of them is to find adequate financial information about companies that will be used in an analysis and another one is financial information, such as marketing expenses and R&D expenses, which is not always available in the accounts of a company. Original feature: This study presents the first verification of a positive relationship between investments in intellectual capital components and a company’s total book value

Texte intégralThis essay aims to explore the relationship between literature and film in education. A study was performed with upper secondary school students to determine their attitudes towards the two media and investigate if there were any differences in their reception of them. The results show that the students were generally more positive to films, found them easier to understand and were more able to answer closed, information-seeking questions about scenes from films than excerpts from texts. However, when it came to open questions, asking the students to reason for themselves, texts proved to provide a better basis. These results are discussed using literacy theory and the conclusion is that films can be a useful complement when teaching literature in school.

This study investigated an application of picture books to reading instruction. Picture books with a theme of interpersonal relationships and various story reading models were used for picture book reading instruction. The experimental instruction, which spanned 12 weeks, consisted of three main units, including “make friends and build relationships”, “control emotions and resolve arguments”, “offer care and maintain friendship”. This reading instruction was expected to help increase students’ ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships. Based on the action research approach, fifth-grade students studying in the school where the researcher worked for were provided a series of courses and activities related to development of friendships. Research data were collected from observation, interview, discussion, learning sheets, and teacher reflections. The effects of the instruction were assessed through students’ self-evaluation, classroom observation, inter-evaluation, interpersonal relationship evaluation, and questionnaire. The results of this study were divided into two aspects: 1.In the aspect of interpersonal relationships: (1)Picture book reading instruction could improve students’ interpersonal relationships. (2)Interpersonal relationships had to be formed through practices and interactions. (3)A good interpersonal relationship could prevent relational bullying. 2.In the aspect of instruction: (1)A variety of models of story reading could be applied. (2)Story-telling instruction could be offered in diverse ways. (3)Picture books were helpful during promotion of reading instruction.

The main purposes of this paper are to evaluate the Chinese translation of Teen Love: On Relationships, A Book for Teenagers and to analyze the involvement of theories and activities in the translational action. This paper is divided into six chapters, along with four appendices. The first chapter states the motive for and the structure of this paper. The second chapter gives a brief introduction to the author Kimberly Kirberger and her other relative books, as well as a summary of this book on a chapter-by-chapter basis. The third chapter provides an analysis of the original text in terms of form and style, and a discussion in readership and cultural adaption. The fourth chapter demonstrates the guiding principles held by the translational action initiator and those by the translator. An example of the application of the IBM Via Voice software and sight translation skills in translational practice is also given in this chapter. The fifth chapter focuses on the evaluation of the translation by way of a contrastive analysis between the original translation and the editor’s modification. The sixth chapter sums up the findings and suggestions derived from the translating process.

The library catalogue is the most important tool to bridge a library’s collection and its users. Nowadays, users are often faced with the problem of information overload and find it difficult to search for relevant and useful information. Thus, how to provide a better platform and mechanism to enhance users’ searching experiences has become a very important issue. One of the possible directions is to improve the way that search results are displayed. Traditionally, libraries prefer to catalog each book as an individual bibliographic entity. This practice will not be able to collocate related works properly. Moreover, people are getting used to the search interface provided by Google or Amazon.com, this change makes the aforementioned practice a more critical issue. Amazon.com is the first and the most successful Internet bookstore. Amazon.com employs some means to keep the visitors continually browsing its products. One of its mechanisms is to create a lot of linkages among its products to encourage its visitors to keep clicking on them. The goal of Amazon.com is to sell more of its products. Similarly, the library wants to increase and facilitate the use of its collection as well. This functional similarity suggests that the library professionals should understand and learn how Amazon.com provides links and how they work. This study, thus, aims to explore the linking relationships and linkage types presented in the book search results of Amazon.com. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was chosen as the target work because it is a classic and has many different versions and various formats. The complication of its publishing status is useful in helping us get an overall picture of Amazon.com’s link relationships. The investigation was divided into two stages. First, a search for Romeo and Juliet was conducted on Amazon.com, and the first 100 titles of the search results were selected for further analysis. The reason why the first 100 titles were selected is because most people would not examine more than 100 records during a search session (Wiberley, Daugherty, & Danowski, 1995). The results of the first stage analysis reveal that nine types of linking relationship are found in the first 100 titles. These are equivalence relationships, derivation relationships, descriptive relationships, content relationships, accompanying relationships, whole-part relationships, responsibility relationships, subject relationships, and title relationships. In the second stage, five titles were purposively selected from the first 100 titles examined in the first stage. These five titles represent the following selection criteria: a version of Romeo and Juliet, a descriptive work of Romeo and Juliet, an adaption of Romeo and Juliet, a translation of Romeo and Juliet, and a version of Romeo and Juliet in different media. The results show that there are 13 types of linking relationships found in the Web pages of these five titles. These relationships comprise of equivalence relationships, derivation relationships, responsibility relationships, subject relationships, items viewed by the same customer relationships, link by system analysis or suggestion relationships, items bought by the same customer relationships, customer review relationships, the same booklist relationships, the same customer tags relationships, link by system advertisement relationships, citation relationships, and the same key phrases relationships. The last 9 kinds of relationships are different from the traditional bibliographic relationships. These linkage relationships are based upon two factors: the relationship is either linked by customers or connected by the system. These relationships can be viewed as shared characteristics relationships as well. Based on the findings, the researcher then proposes the following suggestions. First, in Amazon.com, the page of each book record comprises of various information blocks. The contents of these information blocks will vary according to user’s browsing movements. In other words, the contents are based on user’s interests and the purpose is to attain the user’s attention. It means that the display of library OPACs could be more targeted toward the users. Second, in Amazon.com, an item might repetitively appear in different information blocks. The purpose is to increase the linkage to the item and enhance the visibility of the item. If we believe that every book has its reader, we should take this approach into consideration when designing an OPAC. Finally, more and more catalog user studies report that users prefer one-stop-shopping system. Amazon.com may not be an ideal information model to satisfy the needs. However, it does demonstrate a model which is focused on attracting and attaining its visitors. From the perspective of bibliographic relationships, it does employ many linking mechanisms that have been neglected by the library professionals. We definitely can learn something from Amazon.com to improve our OPAC systems.

E-book has become the most popular topic in the publishing industry since the 90s. As digital reading is widely accepted today, books can be ready not only with printed media, but also with high-tech products like e-book reader or portable devices. While the behavior of reading changes, so does the reading media. The momentum of such change will reinforce the emergence of relevant industries and lead to the next digital revolution. Questionnaire as a method of survey is applied in this study to analyze the reading behaviors of Taiwanese e-book users in relation to Demographic Variables and Life Style. A total of 365 questionnaires are collected for empirical analysis with statistical tools of Descriptive Statistics, Factor Analysis, Reliability & Validity Analysis, Cluster Analysis and Chi-square Test. The study explores the reading behavior and preferences of e-book readers in order to provide marketing advices for current and potential businesses. Based on the research result, e-readers are mostly aged between 30 and 39 years old and are office workers inhabit in northern Taiwan. By using cluster analysis, e-readers in Taiwan can be divided into two groups based on their lifestyle, one is the trend-information receiver and the other is the traditional-information receiver. There is also a significant difference of reading behaviors between gender and e-readers who use different internet ready devices. This indicates that e-reading behavior is influenced by each user’s personality, and the time spends on reading is different across people with different lifestyle. The conclusion and suggestions for e-books are made in light of three aspects shown below. 1. With the understanding that reading behavior is influenced by Demographic Variables, it is advised that differentiated service and marketing shall be carried toward different gender. 2. With properly segmented groups of lifestyle, it is advised that e-books shall be developed in a more innovative way, and a niche business model shall be created as well. 3. The connection between reading behavior and lifestyle shall be utilized to overcome the problem of incompatibility across devices in order to develop a standard e-book format. Furthermore, with the help of today’s cloud service, reading seamlessly across devices and platforms shall be achieved.
Dutton, Jacqueline. « The rape of the Sabine women : Ovid Ars Amatoria, Book I : 101-134 ». Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10210/4422.
Texte intégralIn this dissertation I aim to establish how Ovid uses the Rape of the Sabine Women, part of the foundation myth of Rome, in the Ars Amatoria I: 101-134 to maintain or restructure male-female relationships within Roman patriarchal society. Furthermore, Ovid's legacy in the Middle Ages and our modem society is briefly looked at. This myth tells that Romulus and his men had a shortage of women in their city as they were not considered suitable husbands by the men of the surrounding tribes. In response to the ridicule of their neighbours, Romulus held a celebration of the Consualia at which he and his men seized the Sabine maidens, who would later become their wives. A semiotic approach is used to understand how Ovid viewed existing male-female relationships and to what end he would like to restructure them. Ovid understood the strength of this myth and retold it in order to persuade his audience of his argument. In these lines Ovid explained to the student-lover how and why to meet a woman at the Theatre. Through the comparison of the ancient and the contemporary, his use of certain words and figures of speech, Ovid attempted to convince his audience of the effectiveness of the art of love he promoted: a contract of agreement between two willing partners created by persuasion rather than force. He displayed an amazing understanding of the human psyche, as well as the violent, angry nature of rape. Ovid's novel approach has affected authors of the Middle Ages, among them Geoffrey Chaucer, artists of the 'heroic rape' genre and can even be discussed in relation to modem rape myths and the modern concept of equity between the sexes introduced in the Ars already. His style and subject matter has caused the analysis of his work to be highly debated among many modem scholars. It is my conclusion that Ovid wrote the Ars Amatoria with the intention of restructuring male-female relationships in Roman society, promoting a movement away from violence and unfulfilling relationships, typical of the Roman marriage tradition. His work was so far reaching that he did not only create a stir among his contemporaries, but instead he influenced the development of the male-female relationship and interaction over centuries.
