Résumé :
The attachment relationship between children and teachers consists of three types of relationships, namely secure attachment relationships, insecure attachment relationships, and ambivalent or insecure resistant attachment relationships. In forming a good bond with children, teachers must have a secure attachment with children. Attachment or attachment is a relationship between two people who have a strong relationship and a good emotional bond. A secure attachment between children and teachers will have a positive impact on children until children become adults.

This article uses a panel study of children and mothers to examine how parents and children conceptualize, perceive, and report on their relationships with each other during the children's transition to adulthood years. The article provides strong support for the reliability and validity of reports of parent-child relationships. The article documents generally positive and supportive relationships between parents and children, more positive relationships with mothers than with fathers, and an improvement in relationships as children mature from age 18 to 23. Further, parent-child relationships are perceived differently by parents and children in that there is not just one perception of the relationship between child and parent, but a relationship as perceived by the child and a relationship as perceived by the parent.

Résumé :
Background: Cerebral Palsy (CP) refers to permanent, mutable motor development disorders stemming from a primary brain lesion, leading to secondary musculoskeletal alterations, and limitation of activities of daily living. Motor impairment is the main manifestation in children with CP, and it has consequent effects on the biomechanics of the body. The WeeFIM is a short and quick to administer assessment of functional outcome in paediatric rehabilitation. The modified Timed Up and Go test (mTUG) was designed for children with Cerebral Palsy and assesses mobility and requires both static and dynamic balance. Context and Purpose: Determining if a relationship exists between functional mobility and level of functional independence in daily activities will help to design treatment programs which target improvement in functional mobility in order to improve functional independence in children with Cerebral Palsy. The studies done correlating functional balance and functional performance in children with CP have largely yielded inconclusive results. Hence this study was designed with the aim of finding if a relationship exists between functional mobility measured by mTUG and functional independence measured by WeeFIM in children with CP. Methods: It was a correlation study conducted on 20 children with spastic cerebral palsy from different CP centers in and around Mangalore. Participants were evaluated using modified TUG and WeeFIM scales and the scores tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis to determine if there is a relationship exists between mTUG and WeeFIM. Results: When the measured variables were correlated with each other using Pearson’s correlation it was found that the Pearson’s correlation coefficient was - .470, indicating a moderate negative correlation between the mTUG and WeeFIMscores. Conclusion: There exists a positive relationship between functional mobility and functional independence in children with CP. Improving mobility in children with CP can help them to attain better functional independence. KEY WORD: Cerebral Palsy, GMFC, mTUG, WeeFIM.

Résumé :
Abstract For the increasing number of grandparent caregivers, relationship quality with adult children has important implications for the well-being of grandparents. Based on solidarity, conflict, and ambivalence, the present study examines how parent-adult children's relationships differ by grandparent caregiving status on depressive symptoms and psychological well-being. This study uses The 2014 Health and Retirement Study from a sample of 1,197 grandparent caregivers age 51 and older. Latent class analysis is applied to measure affection and conflict in older grandparents-adult children relationships. Results from the latent class analysis identified four clusters: amicable, ambivalent, detached, and disharmonious. OLS regression models are estimated the association between relationship types and depressive symptoms and psychological well-being by grandparent caregiving. For the depressive symptoms, disharmonious relationships with adult children increase depressive symptoms among co-parenting and custodial grandparents. Also, ambivalent and disharmonious relationships with adult children reduce the psychological well-being of older grandparents. The study discusses the variances of the relationships with adult children and their effects on grandparents’ well-being. The results will shed light on the importance of familial relationships and will be beneficial for the development and maintenance of policies and practices that support the families of grandparent caregivers.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
It has long been recognized that childhood bereavement is a risk factor for depression in adulthood. Research also has consistently demonstrated that parental depression is linked to poor parent-child relationship quality. The current study examined whether bereavement in childhood increases likelihood of current depressive symptoms among parents and explored whether this vulnerability in the parent then alters the quality of the parent-child relationship. Archival data for a sample of 86 families (N=176 parents) are drawn from the Family & Kid Connection project led by Dr. Shelley Riggs. Instruments utilized include the Background Information Questionnaire, the Symptom Assessment-45 Questionnaire, and the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire. Using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model, Multilevel Modeling procedures explored the hypothesis that parental depression mediates the association between parents’ childhood bereavement and their perception of the parent-child relationship. Results show a significant relationship between parental (actor) depressive symptoms and parent-child attachment, indicating the need for therapeutic interventions targeting the parent-child relationship, and not just parents, for parents suffering from depression.

Evans, Julie Marianne. « 'Consuming children' : a sociological analysis of children's relationship with contemporary consumer culture ». Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/368.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The aim of this thesis is to identify and understand children's relationships with the world of consumption. Through the children's own narratives a picture emerges of the mediating properties of consumer goods in their wider social and personal friendships. Living in what could be described as a materially divided society this project explores how children make sense of those inequalities and what their experiences are in understanding their own socio-economic position compared to others and how it impacts on their relationships to consumer culture. A particular concern is that such relationships may be more complicated than they seem on the surface and that class has an especially significant impact on children's experience of consumption. The contention here is that the impact of material inequality on an individual's capacity to consume is in the context of the sociology of both consumption and childhood remains largely under-explored. Creative child-centred data collection methods were therefore used in order to prioritise children's 'voices' as a means of understanding the impact of consumption on their lives. This data was further complemented by interviews with parents and in this context parents' management of familial household budgets emerged as having a particularly important influence in determining the role of consumption as a resource in the dynamic that exists between children, their parents and friendship groups. The evidence collected here suggests that the role of consumer goods is central to children's participation in what passes for a 'non-nal' life in contemporary consumer society. Both the children and their parents are acutely aware of this and as such go to inordinate lengths to ensure their children are able to have the appropriate signifiers of inclusion in their peer group networks. Material possessions appear to provide a currency with which children trade, whilst offering them inclusion within their wider personal and social networks. This research has given 'consuming children' a forum within which they can articulate what role consumer goods occupy in their lives on a day-to-day basis and what it means to children if they are unable to participate fully in the society in which they live.

Lambirth, Andrew. « What is the appeal of poetry written for children for children ? : a study of children's relationship with poetry ». Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2004. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/10007412/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This thesis explores the appeal that a sample of children's poetry has for a group of thirty children in their final year of primary school in the United Kingdom. It examines this appeal within a socio-historical context that perceives literature written for children as playing an important role within a 'developmental state' (Lee, 2001) - a State where children are seen as sites of investment and as 'human becomings'. The thesis argues that the literature written for children forms part of the discourse that has historically attempted to define, manage and maintain contemporary conceptualisations of childhood. Within this context of adult society's ideological claim over literature written for children - including poetry - the study explores the nature of the appeal the texts generate for a class of ll-year olds. Through the use of a triangulation of case studies, the enquiry investigates how this appeal reflects children's own understanding of their childness (Hollindale, 1997). It will argue that although children's literature continues to be written for a variety of adult purposes, children are able to manage the messages and meanings found within the poetry and create their own pleasures from the texts with which they engage, rejecting those that they individually dislike.

Résumé :
The following study explores the factors associated with security of romantic attachment in Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOAs). ACOAs are more vulnerable to inconsistent parenting and consequently are more likely to develop negative internal models of self, a stable construct that affects romantic attachments (Bowlby, 1982; Ainsworth et al, 1989; Bartholomew, 1990). This study examined associations between parent, and peer relationships as possible resiliencies. It was hypothesized that ACOAs will report less secure attachments with their parents (as measured by the IPPA), less romantic attachment anxiety and avoidance (as measured by the ECR-R), and no significant difference in peer attachment (as measured by the IPPA) when compared to ACONAs. It was also hypothesized that there will be an association between peer attachments and romantic attachments for ACOAs and not for the ACONAS. One hundred forty-three undergraduate students participated in the study. An independent T-test showed no significance for the initial hypothesis. The second hypothesis was partially supported, an independent T-test showed significant findings unique to ACOAs. ACOAs with more positive peer attachments had more positive romantic attachments.

Résumé :
AbstractUsing data from the multi-actor Divorce in Flanders survey, this study aimed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of linkages between children’s living arrangements after divorce and father-child relationship quality. First, we tested whether father involvement and co-parental relationship quality explained linkages between living arrangements and father-child relationship quality. Second, we examined whether child’s loyalty conflicts and child’s sex moderated associations between living arrangements and father-child relationship quality. Finally, we explored whether results differed when fathers or children reported on their relationship. Results show that father-child relationship quality (irrespectively of the reporter) was significantly higher for children living in JPC but only compared to children who live solely with their mother. Furthermore, father involvement explained the association between living arrangements and father-child relationship quality (again irrespectively of the reporter). The co-parental relationship also explained part of this association, but only when children reported on father-child relationship quality. The association between children’s living arrangement and father-child relationship quality was stronger for sons than daughters. This association did not differ by loyalty conflicts. These findings highlight the importance of enabling fathers to remain involved after divorce and having a positive co-parental relationship for maintaining high quality relationships between fathers and children.

Résumé :
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted family lifestyles, children's capabilities, and parent-child interactions. This study aimed to explore the influences of parent-child interactions with toys and playing time on children’s problem-solving abilities in post-COVID-19. The research process included two phases: (1) Literature Review: The relationship among playtime, toy types, and children’s capability to solve problems.; and (2) Questionnaire Analyses. The questionnaire focuses on the influences of different types of parent-child toys and the time of playing together for age 2-6 kids on problem-solving skills. Choosing 32 questions from Social Problem-Solving Questionnaire (SPSQ) and Problem-Solving Style Questionnaire (PSSQ), preschool education specialists designed this questionnaire. Questionnaires were distributed in December 2023, and 30 of them were collected. The results are as follows. (1) Learning toys with numbers and symbols that aid in reading can help develop children’s logical thinking, thereby enhancing problem-solving skills. When parents and children engage in studying picture or illustration books together, it nurtures children's language capabilities and fosters interest in learning. Furthermore, sensory-motor playthings have a significant impact on the language development of children.; and (2) Children from families with accompanying playtime during 17:00-18:00 (before school time) or 21:00-22:00 (before/during bedtime) showed good analytical problem-solving capabilities. When faced with a complex problem, these children could identify the most crucial factor and, if they encountered a bottleneck, they would review the problem's context and related conditions to devise alternative solutions.

In 2017 I participated in a training on restorative practices. Until that moment I had not heard anything related to restorative practices, which can also be applied in educational institutions not only in justice. I listened with great enthusiasm to the story of the trainer Negrea Vidia who told u show she became the representative of this practices. The purpose of restorative practices is from informal to formal methods: emotional statement, affective questions, conciliation meeting, proactive circle, restorative conferences. Restorative practices can be applied as methods to combat violence and bullying in schools, bot how do I apply as a speech therapist? Children with special educational needs are emotionally vulnerable and needs more attention. In order to establish the relationship of trust and safety with these children, I applied emotional statements and affective questions method. The safety atmosphere created helped to strengthen the children's self-esteem and help the therapeutic-recuperative process of children whit special educational needs. In the activity with children with special educational needs the relationship with parents is very important and also applied the restorative practices.

Résumé :
Although the historical changes in children's perceptions of the landscape have not been studied in depth, according to the different authors, this topic is of great importance for understanding children's perceptions of the environment and the factors influencing these perceptions, as well as for understanding which urban environments are best suited to meet children's needs. This study aims to determine the changes in children's ability to perceive and explore landscapes in a historical context. The main findings are obtained using studies of artwork content and literature systemic analysis. This research has indicated the most important sociocultural factors, such as social reforms, the establishment of compulsory education, and changes in the attitudes of parents that influenced children's perception of the landscape in different historical periods, and how, considering these aspects, children's relationship with the natural environment has changed. Today, children spend more and more time indoors and in virtual environments, and due to that their relationship with the natural environment is getting weaker compared to historical times. The results of this study underline that children have little options to engage with natural settings in today's cities, which are not safe enough. As a result, children go to virtual spaces that provide opportunities to have the experiences they want. This research has also highlighted the importance of understanding what places and environments were important to children when they were still able to experience them independently and applying this knowledge to create a city suitable for children to grow up in.

Résumé :
High-quality early learning has the potential to narrow disparities in children’s learning and development prior to kindergarten entry, particularly for children from families with low incomes and children who are multilingual learners. This study investigates the relationship between preschool quality and children’s learning and development from fall to spring of 1 school year through the analysis of child- and program-level data from approximately 70,000 children in California preschool programs. It suggests that attending a higher-quality-rated program is associated with greater learning and development than attending a lower-quality-rated program.
