Résumé :

La tesi consiste in uno studio monografico aggiornato, il primo in lingua italiana, dedicato allo scultore bavarese Hans Reichle, che fu un abile interprete della Maniera fiorentina al di là e al di qua delle Alpi. Il bavarese frequentò la bottega di Giambologna dal 1587 c. al 1594, anni di intenso studio durante i quali gettò le basi sulle quali costruì il successo di una vita: la memoria degli anni fiorentini e l’influenza del maestro si percepiscono in tutte le opere del catalogo del bavarese, dagli esordi fino alla piena maturità. La tesi è dedicata interamente all’esame della vita e dell’attività dello scultore. Inizialmente si ripercorre la biografia di Reichle, esaminando le opere realizzate nel corso della vita e il prestigio che queste guadagnarono. In questa prima parte emerge l’evoluzione del linguaggio dello scultore e, in particolare, il suo cimentarsi con tecniche che finora gli studi non avevano ammesso nel catalogo: si tratta di importanti novità che gettano luce su aspetti del tutto inediti della carriera dello scultore. Invece nella seconda parte della tesi si discutono alcuni casi-studio relativi alle imprese principali di Reichle. Un capitolo è poi dedicato all’eredità lasciata dallo scultore in Tirolo e agli allievi e collaboratori che affiancarono Reichle nel corso della sua vita. Le ultime due parti della tesi sono dedicate all’esame dell’inventario inedito del bavarese - che ha portato alla luce significative novità relative tanto alla biografia quanto alla sua attività - al catalogo delle opere di Reichle e dei suoi allievi, e infine all'appendice documentaria.

Nel presente lavoro vengono indagati gli aspetti politici della teologia di Friedrich Gogarten durante l’arco temporale della Repubblica di Weimar. La ricerca si propone due obiettivi fondamentali. In primo luogo, in essa si vuole dimostrare la presenza di una discontinuità all’interno della teologia politica di Gogarten, i cui noti esiti conservatori e vicini al nazismo durante gli ultimi anni della repubblica vengono generalmente considerati dalla critica come impliciti nel suo pensiero precedente. Un’analisi dettagliata della produzione di Gogarten, condotta con un’attenzione particolare al contesto storico-culturale, mostrerà che il suo pensiero politico fino al biennio ‘27/’28 presenta, al contrario, elementi critici nei confronti di un pensiero politico autoritario e dell’ideologia delle nuove destre, ai quali si avvicinerà solo successivamente. Il secondo obiettivo è quello di rinvenire le cause di questa evoluzione del suo pensiero. L’ipotesi di questa ricerca è che essa sia maturata sul terreno dei rapporti di Gogarten con la Chiesa Luterana della Turingia, e che le idee conservatrici inizialmente abbracciate dal teologo in questo ambito lo abbiano spinto a sviluppare una visione sempre più reazionaria della politica e della società durante gli ultimi problematici anni della Repubblica di Weimar.
This work examines the political aspects of Friedrich Gogarten’s theology during the time span of the Weimar Republic. The research seeks two fundamental goals. In the first place, it aims at demonstrating the discontinuity within Gogarten’s political theology, whose well-known conservative outcomes, close to Nazism, in the last years of the republic are generally considered by scholarship as implicit in his earlier thought. An in-depth analysis of Gogarten’s production, with particular attention to the socio-cultural context, will rather show that until the two-year period ‘27/’28 his political thought presents critical elements against authoritarian political power and new right-wing ideologies, that he will embrace only later. The second aim is to find the causes of this evolution of his thought. The research hypothesis is that it matured on the ground of Gogarten’s relationship with the Lutheran church of Thuringia. The conservative ideas first embraced by the theologian brought him to develop an increasingly reactionary vision of politics and society during the last problematic years of the Weimar Republic.

Résumé :

L’obiettivo del presente elaborato è proporre una traduzione, dal tedesco all’italiano, di alcuni capitoli tratti dalla biografia Gertrud Luckner “Botschafterin der Menschlichkeit” di Hans-Josef Wollasch. L’interesse nei confronti di questo libro, incentrato sulla figura di Gertrud Luckner, un’attivista tedesca oppositrice del Nazionalsocialismo, è stato incentivato dal desiderio di approfondire un aspetto quasi interamente sconosciuto ai nostri giorni: il ruolo delle donne nella Resistenza al regime nazionalsocialista. L’elaborato si articola in quattro capitoli. Inizialmente vengono introdotti l’autore e la sua opera, per poi offrire un approccio teorico alla traduzione e facendo un breve cenno sulla traduzione letteraria. Successivamente si passa alla proposta di traduzione. Sono stati dapprima tradotti i capitoli più rilevanti della vita della donna, dal suo impegno iniziale a favore degli ebrei, al pedinamento da parte della Gestapo e alla conseguente deportazione nel campo di concentramento di Ravensbrück. I passaggi appena citati fungono da cornice per il seguito della traduzione, in cui vengono rese note alcune pagine del diario personale sul quale Gertrud Luckner ha annotato le sue riflessioni dal 27 aprile, suo ultimo giorno di prigionia nel campo di concentramento, al 22 luglio 1945. Per concludere, nel quarto capitolo verrà fornito un commento alla traduzione relativo ai problemi riscontrati in corso d’opera e alle strategie adottate per risolverli.

Résumé :

This thesis examines how the concept of evil was understood by opposing German perspectives during the era of National Socialist rule (1933-1945). The rise of Nazism in Germany marked a period of massive political upheaval wherein the National Socialist government encouraged the masses to view the world in terms of a great struggle between forces of good and evil. This was the central theme of their propaganda, which zealously encouraged racialist beliefs in the popular consciousness, and was based on assumptions of German superiority and Jewish evil. Despite Hitler's apparent success in creating an obedient nation, a significant number of Germans opposed his rule, amongst whom a small group of writers expressed their discontent through creative fiction. Through a comparison of the worldviews communicated through political propaganda and anti-Nazi literature, it is revealed that the crux of the divide between their opposing perspectives hinged on the meaning of evil. Since evil is a concept with many meanings, this thesis approaches the subject thematically. The comparison begins by focusing on the perception of evil as an all-corrupting force that had taken hold of Germany, followed by an exploration of how power and brutality were understood, ending with a comparison of views on how the struggle between good and evil took place on both a social and individual level. In addition to demonstrating the subjectivity of moral perspective during a tumultuous period of the recent past, this research reveals how the struggle against Nazism existed as a conflict of ideas. Moreover, the comparison of cultural sources (including Nazi art, visual propaganda, written texts such as Mein Kampf, and anti-Nazi creative fiction) demonstrates the value of art as a tool for conducting historical enquiry. Since the legacy of the Third Reich continues to directly influence modern perceptions of evil, exploring how evil was understood according to contemporary Germans – from both pro and anti-Nazi perspectives – is of particular historical interest.

Résumé :

This dissertation analyses the roles and functions of the German film press during the Third Reich and explores the changes and tensions that characterized German cinema and, by extension, German society during that time period. A close reading of three major publications -- a trade journal, Film-Kurier, a popular magazine, Filmwelt, and the regime's official publication, Der deutsche Film -- first challenges the traditional view of a monolithic, top down control by the Nazi regime. I show the extent and the limits of the regime's utilization of culture and media and demonstrate how different parties used the film press to pursue different, but not mutually exclusive goals. By delineating the film press as a more dynamic public forum than previously assumed, this study secondly informs us about the multifaceted uses and functions of the film publications, and about the changing relationships between the film industry and the regime, as well as the theater, the music, and the press industries. I combine a media specific approach--demonstrating the central role of film publications in articulating the contradictions within film culture--with an exploration of the media convergence in place at the time. I thus firmly position the film press at the nexus of politics, business, film professionals, and the audience, and uncover a lively, albeit restricted, discursive system, with theoretical and practical discussions about film, its achievements under the new regime, its weaknesses and the need for improvement. I focus on the three most discussed issues: the relationship between film and theater, between film and music, and, as a correlation of the two previous topics, the need to train a new generation of film professionals, the Nachwuchs. This dissertation thus traces an important moment in German film history characterized by sustained debates about political, technical, aesthetic, and social aspects of film. More importantly, it uses the film press as a mirror to some of the tensions that characterized German society along several divides such as the masses and the elite, the past and the present, as well as the contradictions in its treatment and representation of gender and sexuality.
