Résumé :
In modern conditions, the issue of tourism and recreation research arises from the need to find a harmonious balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. Today, tourism is an important part of the global economy, but it is also an activity that has a significant impact on the environment and natural resources. The study of environmental and economic relations in this area is key to the development of sustainable and responsible tourism. This is especially important in the context of climate change, growing environmental awareness among the population, and increasing regulatory measures by governments. The relevance of this topic is conditioned by the constant changes in the tourism sector, which require rethinking and adaptation of economic models and strategies. In particular, innovative technologies, which are becoming increasingly available, can be integrated to monitor the environmental condition of tourist areas and ensure more efficient resource management. The article aims to study the nature of the tourism and recreation sphere of the region and determine its ecological and economic aspects. The article examines the issue of the definition of tourism and recreation activities and points out different approaches to its interpretation, as well as the lack of agreement on its ecological and economic structural elements. The author proposes to consider this field as an activity aimed at satisfying the tourist and recreational needs not only of local residents but also of visitors from other regions and countries, using natural and other resources that are attractive to tourists. The author analyzes and classifies various types of tourism and recreation services, including ecological and economic aspects. The key factors of their attractiveness, which form popular tourist destinations and influence the specifics and opportunities for the development of the tourism and recreation industry, are identified.

Résumé :
The article emphasizes the significant role of environmental factors in the development of sustainable tourism. The essence of the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sphere in the context of the environmental component is determined. The purpose of the article is to determine the environmental factors influencing the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sphere of the region, evaluate them from the point of view of manageability, and determine the prerequisites for ensuring the sustainable development of the region. The main elements influencing the ecological stability of the tourism and recreation sphere are substantiated. Groups of managed and unmanaged environmental factors influencing the competitiveness of tourism and recreation are identified. The assessment of the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sphere of the regions of Ukraine is based on the general methodological approaches used in the calculation of the travel and tourism competitiveness indices (The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index, TTCI). An algorithm and environmental indicators are defined. The results of the assessment of the impact of environmental factors on the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sphere are presented. The article points out that in the conditions of the war and the post-war period, the assessment of the impact of environmental factors and the forecasting of their consequences on the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sphere of the region is complicated by the need to carry it out from different positions: damage to natural resources and ecosystems; environmental pollution; loss of biodiversity; reconstruction of tourist identity. The following methods and strategies are proposed to contribute to the achievement of ecological development of the tourism and recreation industry: ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources; using environmentally friendly technologies and materials in hotels and other tourist infrastructure; developing ecotourism and other forms of tourism that contribute to the preservation of the natural environment and draw attention to environmental issues; applying the system of ecosystem restoration and waste minimization; developing ecological management of tourism; conducting environmental education among the local population and tourists.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of household spending on physical recreation and the structural distribution of spending over the years 1985-2012 in Finland linked to various contextual factors including education level, income and area of residence. Design/methodology/approach The study uses Statistics Finland’s consumption research data in a quantitative analysis toward adding a new dimension to research on Finns’ physical recreation spending. Findings Findings show that the amount of money spent on physical recreation equipment and services has grown steadily. Finns’ spending on physical recreation continues to be relatively conservative relative to income, though there are notable differences between population groups. The link between education level and physical recreation remains strong. The largest difference between education levels is between those having completed basic level education and those with higher education degrees. Household type also explains a great deal of the difference in amount spent on physical recreation. According to the results, physical recreation spending is central to the leisure activities of highly educated family units. Originality/value Research on the stratification of consumption habits in Finnish society has not yet addressed physical recreation spending. Furthermore, research on income spent on such activity by various population groups at different times has not been carried out. This paper provides research on both of these themes.

Résumé :
The aim of this study is to investigate the risk taking status of the recreation department students. The universe of this study consists of students studying at the Recreation Department of the Faculty of Sport Sciences of Fırat University. The sampling on the other hand consists of 130 people who were randomly selected from the Recreation department. The risk taking scale was applied to 130 individuals studying the recreation department and the results obtained were evaluated in the SPSS 22 analysis program. The "Risk Taking Scale", which was first prepared by Weber, Blais and Betz in 2002 and measures individuals' risk taking in terms of moral, social, health, entertainment and financial aspects, was used in the study. The scale was shortened by Weber and Blais in 2006. The scale used in 2006 was used in our study. The reliability value (Cronbach's Alpha Value) in the study is .83. It is measured how much risk individuals are willing to take in five fields specified, according to the scale. After obtaining the research data, SPSS 22.0 statistics package program was used. In the analysis of the data, first of all, whether the data showed normal distribution was examined by Kolmogorov Smirnov test. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the data showed normal distribution. Frequency %, Independent Samples T Test and One Way Anova Tests were used to evaluate the data of the study. The significance level was determined as P < 0.05 in the analysis. As a result, it was seen in our study that the values of the students studying in the recreation department were above average. In this study conducted on recreation students, it was found that there was no significant difference in terms of risk taking situations. It has been observed that there is not much research done on risk taking in our country. Most of the studies conducted were in the scope of adolescents. There has been scarcely any research, especially on sports and risk taking. For this reason, it is recommended to carry out comprehensive studies on sports and risk.

Résumé :
The tourism suitability index (TSI) is criteria of resources and the environment to meet the needs of tourism development. The tourism suitability index research was carried out at Batu Bolong Beach, Canggu with the aim of knowing tourism suitability index and tourism area utilization zone for beach recreation activities. Method used field observation by purposive sampling at 4 station points which are divided into a beach length of 640 m. Data retrieval in the form of 10 parameters: water depth, beach type, water current velocity, coastal slope, water base material, beach width, water brightness, dangerous biota, fresh water availability, and coastal land cover. Tourism suitability analysis based on TSI matrix with considering classification of four types categories. The limiting factors at Batu Bolong Beach are the brightness of the waters and the closure of coastal land. The value of tourism suitability for tourism activities in the beach recreation category based on assessment of stations I, II, III, and IV are different, namely 98.80%, 94.04%, 95.23%, and 91.67%. So this indicates that each station in the coastal area can be declared very suitable category for recreational tourism activities. The zones for use of coastal tourism areas include sports, walks, sunbathing, swimming, and surfing. The sunbathing, walking, swimming, and surfing zones can be done at all stations, while the sports zone can be done at stations I and IV. The sacred zone is located in the northern area, stations I and III which are adjacent to station II.

Résumé :
The article examines how natural conditions and resources influence the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sector of the Carpathian region of Ukraine. It highlights the methodological approaches to their assessment in the system of competitiveness factors in the studied sector of the regions on a national level. To calculate the competitiveness indices, the following dominant indicators are suggested: forested areas, mountainous areas, objects in the nature reserve fund, UNESCO World Heritage sites, medicinal mineral waters, deposits of therapeutic mud, ozokerite, lakes and estuaries with therapeutic brine, density of the river system, area of lakes, ponds and reservoirs, availability of sea beaches, number of hunting sites on the territory of hunting grounds. In addition to the partial indices for Ukraine’s regions based on individual indicators of natural resource factors, integral indices of regions are calculated. According to the indicators of integral indices of the impact of natural resource factors on the competitiveness of the tourism and recreation sector, the rating of the oblasts of the Carpathian region is determined, in particular: Zakarpatska (4.3) and Lvivska (3.4) oblasts are ranked first and second, Ivano-Frankivska – fifth (3.1), and Chernivetska – seventeenth. In general, natural conditions and resources offer significant competitive advantages to the region’s oblasts in providing wellness, tourism and wellness (especially in Lvivska and Zakarpatska oblasts), tourism and recreation, and tourism and sports services, particularly in skiing. The article reveals that the combination of natural conditions and resources available in the Carpathian region provides significant competitive advantages for its oblasts in the tourism and recreation sector at the national level.

Résumé :
This paper attempts to provide a cost-benefit analysis of the economic and social effects of hosting the Olympic Games. I provide an overview of the economic and social impacts of the Games and analyze their effects. I focus the economic effects of the Games on tourism, trade, corporate sponsorship and the sale of television rights. I also look at the social effects of the Games on infrastructure and employment. Finally I assess why the Olympics remain an appealing venture for cities, despite evidence that demonstrates how they produce more actual harm than good for the host city. In addition, I provide predictions for two alternative directions that the Olympics could take in the future: to either continue in the current trend of immense growth and commercialization, or alternatively, implement a new Olympic bidding process that establishes stricter criteria for candidate cities.

Brown, Anthony Michael. « Exploring the Effectiveness of Environmentally Sustainable Practices in Municipal Government : A Case Study of the City of Knoxville’s Department of Parks and Recreation ». 2011. http://trace.tennessee.edu/utk_gradthes/942.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Sustainability practices produce programs and services that meet current needs while preserving the environment and natural resources for the future. City parks and recreation departments are facing budget shortfalls and increasing expectations from customers. Governments are now embracing sustainability practices to create financial savings while also fostering relations with customers. The purpose of this single case study was twofold: (1) to examine the effectiveness of one city department’s strategies in outsourcing its environmental sustainability program through a performance contract with Ameresco; and (2) to examine the perceptions of key department employees about the effectiveness of the sustainability initiative. A snowball sample of 14 employees, stratified by employee class (upper administrative, middle management and, line staff) was drawn from the City of Knoxville, Tennessee’s parks and recreation department. Qualitative data generated from semi-structured interviews was coded and thematized to analyze the perceptions of the employees included in the sample about the agency’s sustainability practices. Additionally, financial archival data from utility bills (N = 96) were analyzed over the implementation phase of the contract to determine if cost savings were realized. Key findings of the study included: (1) financial savings were realized across key operating areas as a result of the contract with Ameresco; (2) employees identified positive feelings towards investment in environmental initiatives; (3) sustainability can be obtained through the implementation of an environmental sustainability performance contract; and (4) sustainable practices can further increase efficiency of facilities operation. The results of this study may be generalized to cities of similar size and governmental structure.

Résumé :
The need to diversify the use of natural recreational resources and territories is a national issue of environmental management at the national and regional entities. This is especially true for unique natural areas and objects. The paper analyzes the current state and identifies trends in the development of recreational and tourist sphere of Ukraine. The analysis of normative-legal and organizational support of processes of of natural resources and territories use is carried out. It is established that a separate part of the main factors of production (facilities and fixed assets involved in the provision of health services) are privately owned by business entities, as natural recreational resources are owned by the state and local executive authorities. This situation is due to the need to reconcile socio-economic and environmental interests. The need to improve the permitting system for assessing natural resource potential, in particular natural recreational resources, as a tool for state regulation of economic relations on forms and property rights to natural recreational and involvement of socio-economic interests of territorial development and recreational tourism.

Résumé :
Abstract: This chapter deals entirely with Fisher’s experience as a medical officer in a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. Medical facilities and care, recreation, learning experiences, and German behavior in the prisoner-of-war camp are discussed, as is his liberation. Undoubtedly, Fisher’s wartime experiences had a profound effect on his later life and career. He did not pay much attention to material goods, money, or finances. He believed so much time in his life had been wasted as a prisoner that he was determined to make each subsequent day meaningful. With regard to his career, he was determined to contribute to knowledge and to dedicate himself to the optimum care of patients. He also developed a wide interest in people and human nature, probably at least kindled by the variety of individuals he came in contact with during the war years.

Résumé :
Superpower ambitions are the driving force of technological development seen in China in the last decades. After years of recreating and copying Western solutions, the Chinese industry entered the path of implementing innovations, first with the participation of foreign knowhow, and with time – based on the domestic potential. This article aims to outline the current priorities of the Chinese government in the field of computer science, supercomputers, and the fledgling yet dynamic quantum computerization, in the context of the development of financial technologies (FinTech), based on the analysis of the literature and the business press. These data processing technologies, thanks to their support in economic development strategies, are currently being successfully implemented to build multifunctional smart finance platforms and the Chinese national cryptocurrency system based on the digital yuan.

Résumé :
This contribution describes the final part of the development process of PLEINAIR (Free and Inclusive Parks in Networks for Recreational and Physical Intergenerational Activity), a two-years multidisciplinary research project financed by the POR FESR 2014-2020 program regulated by Emilia Romagna Region in Italy. The PLEINAIR project aims to develop a smart outdoor park, specifically designed for encouraging positive socio-recreational interactions among different generations and for promoting the adoption of active lifestyles for all and at any stage of their life. This is because, according to WHO, sedentary lifestyle is increasing worldwide and it risks to produce more cardiovascular diseases compared to the past, but also because most of the urban parks nowadays are composed of arbitrary and selective areas that do not stimulate interaction between different generations. The purpose of PLEINAIR is to provide real solutions through operational products called OSOs (Outdoor Smart Objects). Monitoring a series of parameters – through an IoMT (Internet of Medical Things) infrastructure – related to people’s motor or ludic activities, the OSOs aim to find the most suitable and customizable motivational strategies to stimulate a positive health lifestyle for any user at any age.PLEINAIR is based on a Human-Centered Design approach and it utilizes participative Co-Design techniques to discover and satisfy the real needs of people.Due to the COVID-19, the first part of the needs analysis was conducted remotely. Despite there were no chances to interact with users in person, the on-line activities collected many insights to develop the early concepts of the OSOs.When the Italians lockdown restrictions in public education were temporally less severe, two Co-Design workshops were organized involving two schools in Province of Bologna, Italy, to collaboratively validate and refine the concept ideas with young users.Considering this, the paper describes two Co-Design activities performed in both schools. The first workshop collaborated with an elementary school and it was divided in two parts: the first stage collected the children’s and expectations about the OSOs’ early concepts through a visual questionnaire; the second stage used free drawing to collect children’s ideas, dreams and expectations about their personal concepts of PLEINAIR outdoor park. The second workshop involved an high school and it was divided in three main round tables, each one focused on a specific aspect of the PLAINAIR IoTM system: the first table co-designed the graphical interface and the navigation system of PLAINAIR application; the second table co-designed and co-validated the motivational strategies that the app uses to encourage people to improve their health conditions; the third table co-designed digital and analogic interactions for dialoguing with the OSOs. The activities were based on an open debate and free drawing session because they let young users free to express themselves around the three themes of the workshop. The final results produced qualitative data that were difficult to collect during the remote activities and they were used, as guidelines, to improve many aspects of the User Experience of the PLEINAIR IoTM system.

Résumé :
Human activity has modified and deteriorated natural ecosystems in ways that reduce resilience and exacerbate environmental and climate problems. Physical measures to protect, manage and restore these ecosystems that also address societal challenges in sustainable ways and bring biodiversity benefits are sometimes referred to as “nature-based solutions” (NBS). For example, reducing deforestation and restoring forests is a major opportunity for climate mitigation, while protecting or restoring coastal habitats can mitigate damage to coastal areas from natural hazard events, in addition to potentially providing co-benefits related to livelihood, recreation, and biodiversity. There is now an impetus to shift towards greater deployment of nature-based solutions. Not only do they offer an alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based or hard infrastructure solutions but, if implemented correctly, they also hold great promise for achieving multiple goals, benefits and synergies. These include climate mitigation and resilience; nature and biodiversity protection; and economic and social gains. 2020 saw an explosion in publications about NBS, which have contributed to filling many of the knowledge gaps that existed around their effectiveness and factors for their success. These publications have also highlighted the knowledge gaps that remain and have revealed a lack of critical reflection on the social and economic sustainability aspects of NBS. Building on these gaps, we decided to launch this mini-series of four briefs to provoke a more nuanced discussion that highlights not only the potential benefits, but also the potential risks and trade-offs of NBS. The purpose is not to downplay the importance of NBS for biodiversity, ecosystems, and coastal mitigation and adaptation, but to ensure that we establish a dialogue about ways to overcome these challenges while leaving no one behind.
