Résumé :
We give a graphical theory of integral indefinite binary Hamiltonian forms f f analogous to the one of Conway for binary quadratic forms and the one of Bestvina-Savin for binary Hermitian forms. Given a maximal order O \mathscr {O} in a definite quaternion algebra over Q \mathbb {Q} , we define the waterworld of f f , analogous to Conway’s river and Bestvina-Savin’s ocean, and use it to give a combinatorial description of the values of f f on O × O \mathscr {O}\times \mathscr {O} . We use an appropriate normalisation of Busemann distances to the cusps (with an algebraic description given in an independent appendix), the SL 2 ⁡ ( O ) \operatorname {SL}_{2}(\mathscr {O}) -equivariant Ford-Voronoi cellulation of the real hyperbolic 5 5 -space, and the conformal action of SL 2 ⁡ ( O ) \operatorname {SL}_{2}(\mathscr {O}) on the Hamilton quaternions.

Résumé :
Estimating averages of Dirichlet convolutions $1\ast \unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$, for some real Dirichlet character $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$ of fixed modulus, over the sparse set of values of binary forms defined over $\mathbb{Z}$ has been the focus of extensive investigations in recent years, with spectacular applications to Manin’s conjecture for Châtelet surfaces. We introduce a far-reaching generalisation of this problem, in particular replacing $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}$ by Jacobi symbols with both arguments having varying size, possibly tending to infinity. The main results of this paper provide asymptotic estimates and lower bounds of the expected order of magnitude for the corresponding averages. All of this is performed over arbitrary number fields by adapting a technique of Daniel specific to $1\ast 1$. This is the first time that divisor sums over values of binary forms are asymptotically evaluated over any number field other than $\mathbb{Q}$. Our work is a key step in the proof, given in subsequent work, of the lower bound predicted by Manin’s conjecture for all del Pezzo surfaces over all number fields, under mild assumptions on the Picard number.

Résumé :
We consider a real polynomial of two variables. Its expansion in the vicinity of the zero singular point begins with the third degree form. We find its simplest forms to which this polynomial is reduced by reversible real local analytic coordinate substitutions. First, the normal forms for the cubic form are obtained using linear coordinate substitutions. There are three of them. Then three non-linear normal forms were obtained for the full polynomial. A simplification of the computation of the normal form is proposed. A meaningful example is considered.

Résumé :
Abstract Crystallization of the drug entacapone from binary solvent mixtures was monitored in situ using a Raman optical probe. The recorded Raman spectra and statistical analysis, which included the principal components method and indirect hard modeling made it possible to estimate the starting point of crystallization, to assess crystallization temperatures and to provide information on the polymorphic content of the mixture. It was established that crystallization temperatures were proportional to the volume content of the solvent in mixtures. The samples were also evaluated off-line via Raman spectroscopy and SWAXS. The collected data showed the presence of forms b and g in all solvent mixtures. In a toluene/methanol 30:70 mixture, in addition to forms b and g, at least one of the forms A, D or a was also indicated by SWAXS. The results have shown that the presence of a particular polymorph is strongly dependent on the nature and portion of the solvent in the binary solvent mixture.

Résumé :
AbstractLet {uk} be a Lucas sequence. A standard technique for determining the perfect powers in the sequence {uk} combines bounds coming from linear forms in logarithms with local information obtained via Frey curves and modularity. The key to this approach is the fact that the equation uk = xn can be translated into a ternary equation of the form ay2 = bx2n + c (with a, b, c ∈ ℤ) for which Frey curves are available. In this paper we consider shifted powers in Lucas sequences, and consequently equations of the form uk = xn+c which do not typically correspond to ternary equations with rational unknowns. However, they do, under certain hypotheses, lead to ternary equations with unknowns in totally real fields, allowing us to employ Frey curves over those fields instead of Frey curves defined over ℚ. We illustrate this approach by showing that the quaternary Diophantine equation x2n±6xn + 1 = 8y2 has no solutions in positive integers x, y, n with x, n > 1.

Résumé :
This article adopts a semiotic (and edusemiotic) perspective that abolishes all binary divisions in favour of the process of semiosis that ensures a continuous translation of signs into other signs via the dynamic relations formed by the human mind, cultural artefacts, and events in real life. The mind, in edusemiotics, partakes of unconscious ideas in the form of mental images. As for culture, the field of communication phenomena calls for, according to Yuri Lotman, the identification of specific semiotic systems representing their ‘languages’, including non-verbal signs such as images, pictures, and other art forms that function as cultural texts. The methodology of bricolage (conceptualized in educational research by Joe Kincheloe) combines hermeneutics with narratology, and ‘reading’ images becomes imperative for advancing critical pedagogy. The article examines and interprets selected images, including those belonging to the low end of popular culture, and connects them with the exemplarily significant event at the level of socio-cultural reality. The paradoxical self-referential ‘logic’ is the prerogative of semiotic reason that constantly reflects on – thus bringing to cognition and transforming – our often unconscious assumptions, beliefs and habits thus contributing to the construction of subjectivity that uses critical reason informed by signs, which include the bricolage of images.

Résumé :
Matching of keypoints across image patches forms the basis of computer vision applications, such as object detection, recognition, and tracking in real-world images. Most of keypoint methods are mainly used to match the high-resolution images, which always utilize an image pyramid for multiscale keypoint detection. In this paper, we propose a novel keypoint method to improve the matching performance of image patches with the low-resolution and small size. The location, scale, and orientation of keypoints are directly estimated from an original image patch using a Log-Spiral sampling pattern for keypoint detection without consideration of image pyramid. A Log-Spiral sampling pattern for keypoint description and two bit-generated functions are designed for generating a binary descriptor. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method is more effective and robust than existing binary-based methods for image patch matching.

AbstractWe obtain a nontrivial upper bound for almost all elements of the sequences of real numbers which are multiplicative and at the prime indices are distributed according to the Sato–Tate density. Examples of such sequences come from coefficients of severalL-functions of elliptic curves and modular forms. In particular, we show that |τ(n)| ⩽n11/2(logn)−1/2+o(1)for a set ofnof asymptotic density 1, where τ(n) is the Ramanujan τ function while the standard argument yields log 2 instead of −1/2 in the power of the logarithm. Another consequence of our result is that in the number of representations ofnby a binary quadratic form one has slightly more than square-root cancellations for almost all integersn. In addition, we obtain a central limit theorem for such sequences, assuming a weak hypothesis on the rate of convergence to the Sato–Tate law. For Fourier coefficients of primitive holomorphic cusp forms such a hypothesis is known conditionally and might be within reach unconditionally using the currently established potential automorphy.

Many recent analysis-by-synthesis density estimation models of cortical learning and processing have made the crucial simplifying assumption that units within a single layer are mutually independent given the states of units in the layer below or the layer above. In this article, we suggest using either a Markov random field or an alternative stochastic sampling architecture to capture explicitly particular forms of dependence within each layer. We develop the architectures in the context of real and binary Helmholtz machines. Recurrent sampling can be used to capture correlations within layers in the generative or the recognition models, and we also show how these can be combined.

Résumé :
The hub maximal covering location problem aims to find the best locations for hubs so as to maximize the total flows covered by predetermined number of hubs. Generally, this problem is defined in the framework of binary coverage. However, there are many real-life cases in which the binary coverage assumption may yield unexpected decisions. Thus, the partial coverage is considered by stipulating that the coverage of an origin-destination pair is determined by a non-increasing decay function. Moreover, as this problem contains strategic decisions in long range, the precise information about the parameters such as travel times may not be obtained in advance. Therefore, we present uncertain hub maximal covering location models with partial coverage in which the travel times are depicted as uncertain variables. Specifically, the partial coverage parameter is introduced in uncertain environment and the expected value of partial coverage parameter is further derived and simplified with specific decay functions. Expected value model and chance constrained programming model are respectively proposed and transformed to their deterministic equivalent forms. Finally, a greedy variable neighborhood search heuristic is presented and the efficiency of the proposed models is evaluated through computational experiments.

AbstractThe largely unfettered realm of hardware and software code offers limitless possibilities in expanding the use and influence of information and communication technologies. As transcendent technologies they are unrestrained by the divergent equivalence of human categories of difference such as gender, race and class, or conceptual binary oppositions such as good/evil, happy/sad, freedom/oppression. Whilst a material grounding in earlier forms of embodied social experience remains an essential precondition of interaction with virtual systems, it is suggested that the virtual world is in the process of transforming the real world or, at least, subordinating it as slave to the machine world. This shift has fostered an imbalance of power between human and the posthuman, and consequently the epoch of the machine is often alleged to be both modern miracle and monster. Just as at a human level, rational thought processes restrain ideas which are unruly and require control, ICT advancements have proliferated to the point where these technologies also need to be classified, constrained where necessary, and diluted into the real world in real time. In this current climate of endless technological transformation, along with the growth of mass surveillance technologies together with the expansion of regulatory state powers, it is clear that any further innovations cannot be left to market forces without first considering the groundwork for the development of an appropriate monitoring mechanism. Before an appropriate set of regulatory mechanisms can be explicated, it is first necessary to consider the nature of the evolving transgressive human–machine relationship and the possible implications for humanity in the modern hypermediated world.

SUMMARYThis paper presents a practical method for generating task strategies applicable to chamferless and high-precision assembly. The difficulties in devising reliable assembly strategies result from various forms of uncertainty such as imperfect knowledge on the parts being assembled and functional limitations of the assembly devices. In order to cope with these problems, the robot is provided with the capability of learning the corrective motion in response to the force signal through iterative task execution. The strategy is realized by adopting a learning algorithm and is represented in a binary tree-type database. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a series of experiments are carried out under simulated real production conditions. The experimental results show that sensory signal-to-robot action mapping can be acquired effectively and, consequently, the assembly task can be performed successfully.

Résumé :
It is a classical result, deriving from the Gaussian theory of genera of integral binary quadratic forms, that there exist only finitely many imaginary quadratic fields for which the ideal class group is a group of exponent two. This finiteness has been shown to extend to all those totally imaginary quadratic extensions of any fixed totally real algebraic number field. In this paper we put forward the conjecture that there exist only finitely many imaginary abelian algebraic number fields which have ideal class groups of exponent two, and we examine the extent to which existing methods can be brought to bear on this conjecture. One consequence of the validity of the conjecture would be a proof of the existence of finite abelian groups which do not occur as the ideal class group of any imaginary abelian field.

Résumé :
An important issue in the design of FRBS is the formation of fuzzy if-then rules and the membership functions. This paper presents a Mixed Genetic Algorithm (MGA) approach to obtain the optimal rule set and the membership function of the fuzzy classifier. While applying genetic algorithm for fuzzy classifier design, the membership functions are represented as real numbers and the fuzzy rules are represented as binary string. Modified forms of crossover and mutation operators are proposed to deal with the mixed string. The proposed genetic operators help to improve the convergence of GA and accuracy of the classifier. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated through development of fuzzy classifier for seven standard data sets. From the simulation study it is found that the proposed algorithm produces a fuzzy classifier with minimum number of rules and high classification accuracy. Statistical analysis of the test results shows the superiority of the proposed algorithm over the existing methods.

Résumé :
Aiming at the influence of fewer feature points and dynamic obstacles on location and mapping in off-road environments, we propose a dual-constraint LiDAR-based Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) scheme. By abstracting LiDAR registration into two constraints, namely, in-window constraints and out-of-window constraints, the in-window constraints allow our scheme to compromise between accuracy and real-time performance, and out-of-window constraints can exploit optimized variables to provide richer constraint information. The advantages of incremental SLAM map construction can be used to design a variety of map forms. Although the variables outside the window are no longer involved in the optimization, we can use the two-dimensional probability grid map to provide binary semantic information and dynamic weights for the constraints outside the window to enhance the registration accuracy. Finally, we conducted experiments in off-road environment and compared with the mainstream LiDAR SLAM scheme, which can prove that our scheme has more advantages in accuracy.

Résumé :
Body Worlds is a hugely popular exhibition that claims to offer a reverential and educational experience of the ‘real human body’ through the display of plastinated dead human bodies. However, because they are posed, staged, and composed of significant nonhuman artifice, plastinates are ambivalently ‘real’ as human bodies, let alone ‘real’ as humans. Plastinates are as much nonhuman as human, and neither category fully accounts for them. In this article, I discuss the consequences of this for feminist theory. Approaches in feminist theory that reify, either implicitly or explicitly, a human/nonhuman binary framework are challenged by plastinates. I show that locating plastinates within either ontological category, though not fully accounting for them, enables feminist critiques of the exhibition; however, these categories also paradoxically permit forms of violence with which feminists are typically concerned. In this way, I argue that plastinates force feminist thought to the very interface of the human/nonhuman divide. When applied to Body Worlds, these concepts at best form a heuristic ontological hinge whose angle is determined by ethical and political commitments, illustrating the ways in which key ontologies should be seen as political strategies more or less amenable to feminist goals, but not more or less true. I argue that what lies at the crux of this hinge, in the case of plastinates, is death, and suggest that Body Worlds demands that the interface of death with life become a key feminist concern.

Abstract Tramadol, a strong pain killer known for its addictive problems is either co-administrated or co-formulated with other analgesics or muscle relaxants. The power of fluorescence detection in HPLC is tested to resolve such mixtures in plasma matrix to reach the required sensitivity with simple sample treatment using just protein precipitation. The aim of this work was to develop an eco-friendly and sensitive HPLC method with fluorimetric detection for analysis of Tramadol in its two binary mixtures with Ibuprofen (mixture 1) and Chlorzoxazone (mixture 2) in two combined dosage forms and spiked plasma. Separation was done using a C18 column with mobile phase of acetonitrile and water (pH 3.5) in gradient elution and 1 mL/min flow rate. Detection was carried out with λ excitation/λ emission of 220 and 307 nm, respectively. The method was applied to detect the two binary mixtures in real plasma samples after invivo application to rats, to assure that the drugs’ metabolites do not affect the sensitivity or selectivity of the assay. Evaluation of greenness of the proposed method was done using semi-quantitative Eco‐Scale and new Green Analytical Procedure Index which showed that this method can be a greener alternative with higher sensitivity for analysis of both mixtures. The method (15 min-assay) was linear over concentrations of 0.1–10 μg/mL and 0.1–33 μg/mL in plasma. In addition, the proposed method was validated per ICH as well as FDA bioanalytical methods’ validation guidelines.

Résumé :
Developing an appropriate route choice model for managed lanes with multiple entrances and exits is critical for the success of managed lane planning and operations. This research focuses on route choice models for managed lane networks with stochastic and time-varying tolls and travel times. In the model, a traveler receives real-time information about the tolls and travel times upon arrival at each diverge node and makes a dynamic lane choice decision that minimizes the total expected cost. The online route choice model is formulated as a Markov decision process and solved using a backward recursion algorithm. The model is compared against four other routing models: a binary logit model, a model based on decision routes, a model that chooses paths a priori, and a model with routes chosen randomly. The study also models irrational driver behavior with parameters like driver’s inclination toward making optimal lane choices and preference for certain lanes. Findings show that the expected costs from the routes chosen using the decision route model from the literature are close to the optimal cost with an average percentage error of 0.93%. The binary logit model is shown to have a high average error of 50% in the expected cost when a driver is assumed to behave rationally, but the same model shows optimal prediction for certain irrational driver behaviors. The proposed routing model forms a basis for future work in the area of managed lane pricing and planning.

Résumé :
Today digitalization increasingly affects the economy, including the transport industry. The consequence of this is the emergence of digital twins that allow modeling and predicting the behavior of both individual processes and enterprises as a whole. The aim of the article is to investigate the process of digitalization in the transport industry. The theoretical basis of the article was the universal organizational science of A. Bogdanov. The article offers a definition of information, and its classification in relation to the economy at three levels: applied information (technological information), information about algorithms of the owners of factors production behavior (behavioral information) and information, with which the impact on the owners of production factors and the real economy in general (directive information). The totality of these levels of information from the macroeconomic point of view forms an information economy, and from the microeconomic point of view – a digital twin of a particular subject of the real economy. It is proved that the digital economy is a subsystem of the information economy, differs in a binary way of presenting information and is maximally oriented to the management of the real economy.Information precedes all activity, so the real economy is a product of the information economy. Consequently, the technological division of labor is based on a prior informational division of labor. This theoretically allows us to judge the adequacy of the digital twin through the analysis of individual technological levels of the transport enterprise. This hypothesis was applied to the analysis of the Russian railway transport, which gave reason to consider this approach promising for use at macro- and micro-levels both.

Different nanomaterials and their modified forms are very often added into a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix in order to improve the energy storage and conversion efficiency of the system. The improvement in energy storage density caused by this secondary nanomaterial addition is most often found to be accompanied by the reduction in energy storage efficiency due to increased amounts of space charges. Here, we show that both the capacitive energy storage density and efficiency can be simultaneously improved by air-plasma discharging on the PVDF based composite system. The energy storage density and efficiency of a 5 wt. % BiFeO3 loaded PVDF film (5BF) have been found to be increased to ∼1.55 J/cm3 and ∼73%, respectively, from the values of ∼1.36 J/cm3 and 59% after air-plasma discharging. The dipole rotation caused by air-plasma discharging also helped in improving the mechanical to electrical energy conversion efficiency and magnetoelectric coupling of the studied composite system. Upon similar periodic applied stress, the pristine and air-plasma discharged 5BF film showed ∼3 and 9.6 μW/cm2 of output electrical power density with ∼13.5 and 19.2 V of open circuit output voltage, respectively. The air-plasma discharged 5BF film (5BFD) has also shown an excellent magnetoelectric coupling coefficient ( α33) of ∼35 mV cm−1 Oe−1 at 1 kHz frequency of fixed AC magnetic field (∼3 Oe) and 4 kOe of DC bias field. The simultaneous improvement of all of these parameters of the studied composite system caused by air-plasma discharging proves its multifunctional applicability in a variety of real life applications.

Résumé :
AbstractQualitative reasoning involves expressing and deriving knowledge based on qualitative terms such as natural language expressions, rather than strict mathematical quantities. Well over 40 qualitative calculi have been proposed so far, mostly in the spatial and temporal domains, with several practical applications such as naval traffic monitoring, warehouse process optimisation and robot manipulation. Even if a number of specialised qualitative reasoning tools have been developed so far, an important barrier to the wider adoption of these tools is that only qualitative reasoning is supported natively, when real-world problems most often require a combination of qualitative and other forms of reasoning. In this work, we propose to overcome this barrier by using ASP as a unifying formalism to tackle problems that require qualitative reasoning in addition to non-qualitative reasoning. A family of ASP encodings is proposed which can handle any qualitative calculus with binary relations. These encodings are experimentally evaluated using a real-world dataset based on a case study of determining optimal coverage of telecommunication antennas, and compared with the performance of two well-known dedicated reasoners. Experimental results show that the proposed encodings outperform one of the two reasoners, but fall behind the other, an acceptable trade-off given the added benefits of handling any type of reasoning as well as the interpretability of logic programs.

Résumé :
Recent theoretical work in causal inference has explored an important class of variables which, when conditioned on, may further amplify existing unmeasured confounding bias (bias amplification). Despite this theoretical work, existing simulations of bias amplification in clinical settings have suggested bias amplification may not be as important in many practical cases as suggested in the theoretical literature. We resolve this tension by using tools from the semi-parametric regression literature leading to a general characterization in terms of the geometry of OLS estimators which allows us to extend current results to a larger class of DAGs, functional forms, and distributional assumptions. We further use these results to understand the limitations of current simulation approaches and to propose a new framework for performing causal simulation experiments to compare estimators. We then evaluate the challenges and benefits of extending this simulation approach to the context of a real clinical data set with a binary treatment, laying the groundwork for a principled approach to sensitivity analysis for bias amplification in the presence of unmeasured confounding.

Résumé :
Crack detection at an early stage is necessary to save people’s lives and to prevent the collapse of building/bridge structures. Manual crack detection is time-consuming, especially when a building structure is too high. Image processing, machine learning, and deep learning-based methods can be used in such scenarios to build an automatic crack detection system. This study uses a novel deep convolutional neural network, 3SCNet (3ScaleNetwork), for crack detection. The SLIC (Simple Linear Iterative Clustering) segmentation method forms the cluster of similar pixels and the LBP (Local Binary Pattern) finds the texture pattern in the crack image. The SLIC, LBP, and grey images are fed to 3SCNet to form pool of feature vector. This multi-scale feature fusion (3SCNet+LBP+SLIC) method achieved the highest sensitivity, specificity, an accuracy of 99.47%, 99.75%, and 99.69%, respectively, on a public historical building crack dataset. It shows that using SLIC super pixel segmentation and LBP can improve the performance of the CNN (Convolution Neural Network). The achieved performance of the model can be used to develop a real-time crack detection system.

Duringthesecond decadeof theIndependence, i.e. at thebeginningof thetwenty-first centurythe increasing number of performances trying to escape the tradition of anti-mimeticrepresentation and to re-engage with reality appeared on the Lithuanian theatre stage.Fragments of everyday reality, ?real?personalities onstage, autobiographic narratives, historicdocuments, authentic spaces were becoming increasingly popular, allowing some critics toproclaim theeagerly awaited ?return to realism?. However, acloser analysisof thistendency ofcontemporary Lithuanian theatre can lead one to believe that such performances do notdemonstratetheurgeto return to thetraditional notion of realist representation, but rather toplayfully flirt with reality and its reception in the fictional world of theatre. In the light oftheoretical and practical revisions of the concepts of reality and its representation, youngLithuanian theatrecreatorsarenot somuch interested in truthful representation of reality, butrather in a performative investigation of processes of representation and their effects onaudience perception. One might add that while engaging with the codes of reality or ?real?material onstage, contemporary Lithuanian artists try to dismantle the binary oppositionbetween realistic representation and anti-realistic playfulness, which dominated the symbolicmentality of modern Lithuanian theatre. Various forms of playing with reality and fiction onthe Lithuanian theatre stage, their underlying principles and wider cultural implications ofsuch games are the object of investigation of this article. A comparative analysis ofperformances from Lithuania and Estonia will help to highlight the specific character ofLithuanian theatre as well as to define the patterns of playing with reality present on thepost-Soviet Lithuanian stage.

Résumé :
The paper consists of two main parts: a microscopic and spectroscopic investigation of the single crystal of 17-year-old 238Pu-doped Eu-monazite, and a theoretical calculation of the properties of several structural types of orthophosphates. It is shown that actinide-doped monazite is prone to the formation of mechanically weak, poorly crystalline crust, presumably consisting of rhabdophane. Its formation is likely promoted by the formation of peroxides and, potentially, acidic compounds, due to the radiolysis of atmospheric moisture. The calculations of mixing the enthalpies and Gibbs energies of binary solid solutions of Pu and rare earth element (REE) phosphates that were performed for the principal structural types—monazite, xenotime, rhabdophane—show that, in the case of light REEs, the plutonium admixture is preferentially redistributed into the rhabdophane. This process strongly affects the behavior of actinides, leached from a monazite-based waste form. The applications of these results for the development of actinide waste forms are discussed. The current data on the behavior of real actinide-doped monazite suggest that this type of ceramic waste form is not very resistant, even in relatively short time periods.

Résumé :
The pivotal role of data security in mobile edge-computing environments forms the foundation for the proposed work. Anomalies and outliers in the sensory data due to network attacks will be a prominent concern in real time. Sensor samples will be considered from a set of sensors at a particular time instant as far as the confidence level on the decision remains on par with the desired value. A “true” on the hypothesis test eventually means that the sensor has shown signs of anomaly or abnormality and samples have to be immediately ceased from being retrieved from the sensor. A deep learning Actor-Criticbased Reinforcement algorithm proposed will be able to detect anomalies in the form of binary indicators and hence decide when to withdraw from receiving further samples from specific sensors. The posterior trust value influences the value of the confidence interval and hence the probability of anomaly detection. The paper exercises a single-tailed normal function to determine the range of the posterior trust metric. The decision taken by the prediction model will be able to detect anomalies with a good percentage of anomaly detection accuracy.

Résumé :
Tramadol (TRM) and pregabalin (PGB) are frequently used in combination for neuropathic pain management. Accordingly, a selective and sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–mass/mass spectrometric (ESI–LC–MS/MS) method is presented for determination of TRM and PGB, whether in pure forms or human biological fluids (plasma/urine), using gabapentin (GBP) (IS) as the internal standard. Chromatographic separation was effected in total run time of 2.5 min, on Phenomenex Luna® Omega 1.6 um polar C18 (LC 150 × 2.1 mm) column with a mobile phase of methanol/water (70:30, v/v), 0.1% (v/v) formic acid at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. Ionization of the analytes was obtained using electrospray in the positive ion mode (ESI+). The MS/MS detection was performed by monitoring the fragments for TRM, PGB and GBP on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. Assay calibration was over the range of 10–1000 ng mL−1 for TRM and PGB with the correlation coefficients over 0.999 in pure form, human plasma and urine spiked with the studied compounds. Validation data showed the inter-run relative standard deviations (RSDs) were less than 4.3% for TRM and 3.8% for PGB, whereas the intra-run RSDs were less than 3.7% for TRM and 3.6% for PGB. The mean extraction recoveries for TRM and PGB were in the ranges of 86.51–93.38% and 86.20–92.42%. This method was successfully performed on real plasma and urine samples taken from neuropathic patients and proved to be an applicable method for routine therapeutic drug monitoring of the proposed drug combination.

Résumé :
The performance of machine learning models diminishes while predicting the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of the equipment or fault prediction due to the issue of concept drift. This issue is aggravated when the problem setting comprises multi-class imbalanced data. The existing drift detection methods are designed to detect certain drifts in specific scenarios. For example, the drift detector designed for binary class data may not produce satisfactory results for applications that generate multi-class data. Similarly, the drift detection method designed for the detection of sudden drift may struggle with detecting incremental drift. Therefore, in this experimental investigation, we seek to investigate the performance of the existing drift detection methods on multi-class imbalanced data streams with different drift types. For this reason, this study simulated the streams with various forms of concept drift and the multi-class imbalance problem to test the existing drift detection methods. The findings of current study will aid in the selection of drift detection methods for use in developing solutions for real-time industrial applications that encounter similar issues. The results revealed that among the compared methods, DDM produced the best average F1 score. The results also indicate that the multi-class imbalance causes the false alarm rate to increase for most of the drift detection methods.

Résumé :
The Łukasiewicz conjunction (sometimes also considered to be a logic of absolute comparison), which is used in multivalued logic and in fuzzy set theory, is one of the most important t-norms. In combination with the binary operation ‘maximum’, the Łukasiewicz t-norm forms the basis for the so-called max-Łuk algebra, with applications to the investigation of systems working in discrete steps (discrete events systems; DES, in short). Similar algebras describing the work of DES’s are based on other pairs of operations, such as max-min algebra, max-plus algebra, or max-T algebra (with a given t-norm, T). The investigation of the steady states in a DES leads to the study of the eigenvectors of the transition matrix in the corresponding max-algebra. In real systems, the input values are usually taken to be in some interval. Various types of interval eigenvectors of interval matrices in max-min and max-plus algebras have been described. This paper is oriented to the investigation of strong, strongly tolerable, and strongly universal interval eigenvectors in a max-Łuk algebra. The main method used in this paper is based on max-Ł linear combinations of matrices and vectors. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the recognition of strong, strongly tolerable, and strongly universal eigenvectors have been found. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples.

Résumé :
Running costs of buildings represent a significant outlay for all businesses, thus finding a way to run facilities as efficiently as possible is vital. IoT-enabled Building Management Systems provide means for process and resource usage automation leading to overall efficiency improvements. Inferring spatial and temporal occupancy in all its forms (binary, numerical or continuous) is one of the key contextual inputs required for smart building management systems. In this work, we showcase design, implementation and experimental validation of a smart building occupancy detection and forecasting solution. The presented solution comprises three main building blocks: (1) A fog computing indoor positioning system (BLEMAT — Bluetooth Low Energy Microlocation Asset Tracking) which, combined with wireless access network monitoring processes, produces indoor location information in a semi-unsupervised manner; (2) Data analysis and pattern searching pipelines responsible for fusing data coming from different smart building and networking systems and deriving information on temporal and spatial occupancy patterns; (3) Long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks trained to predict occupancy patterns in different areas of a smart building. Data analysis and neural network training are conducted on real-world smart building dataset which authors provide in public online repository. Experimental validation confirms that the proposed solution can provide actionable occupancy detection and prediction information, required by smart building management systems.

Résumé :
Calculating area and perimeter in real-world conditions has its challenges. The actual conditions include applications in the medical field to measure the presence of tumors or the condition of human organs and applications in geography to measure specific areas on a map; applications in architecture often calculate the area and perimeter of buildings, interior design, exterior design, and other uses. Technology can make it easier with automatic calculations. Mathematical methods and computer vision techniques are required to create automated systems. The Canny method is usually used, which is good enough for detecting edges but not sufficient for measuring irregular geometric shapes. This paper aims to calculate the area and perimeter of a geometric shape using the Canny method and geometry. Data samples in various forms are used in this study. Calculating area and perimeter using the Canny method involves obtaining the length (X,Y) of the RGB image converted to HSV. Edge detection values are used to calculate the area and perimeter of objects. The morphological method uses binary image input as input data. Then proceed to the convolution process with structuring and calculating the area and circumference of objects. Based on the research results, calculating the area and circumference of objects is more effective using morphological methods. However, the level of accuracy is affected by the selection of structuring elements (strels) which must be optimal and global.

Résumé :
This article argues for the value of authenticity as an analytic. “Authentic possibilities” plays on a double meaning. In one sense, possibilities may be “authentic” in terms of what is true, real, original, grounded, or not fake. In another sense, authenticity as a concept may offer possibilities for analysts to notice how value is created. This article draws on long-term as well as disrupted ethnographic research in the Made in Italy arena across two sectors—slow figs and fast fashion—to theorize authentic possibilities. Fieldwork disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic opened conceptual space to propose a nonbinary approach to authenticities. In breaking from the authentic–inauthentic binary and taking inspiration from artisanal producers of figs, the article offers authenticities as an analytic to illuminate uncommon lessons. Fig producers straddle discipline and improvisation, sustaining and generating novel and nuanced forms of authenticity. The taste of authenticity may be unpredictable and even at odds with tradition. The article draws inspiration from theorists who signal authenticity’s dynamic qualities whether through the slowness of food (Grasseni 2017), the realness of food (Weiss 2012), the emplacement of value (Cavanaugh and Shankar 2014), the power of reverse engineering terroir (Paxson 2010), and “stifling” aspects of authenticity (Gross 2020). The article is structured around four heterogenous instruments: place, fieldwork, discipline, and vulnerability. Takeaways propose possibilities and limits of authenticity for critical food studies.

Résumé :
Digitalisation contributes both to fundamental changes in production processes and to the web of relationships between business units. According to contemporary views, it will result in the common widespread using of the real objects’ digital models (digital twins). Their quality will define the competitiveness of a certain economic pattern. Thus, all the digital twin data automatically becomes a trade secret. In this context, external investigators are able to analyse only visible representation of digital twins – digital footprints, imprints and shadows. The aim of the article is to formalise the “digital shadow” notion and to investigate the perspectives of its implementation in economic sectoral analysis. The subject of the research is freight transport. The article claims that the digital twin includes three components: physical transportation (first-type information), coordination of economic interests (second-type information) and long-term management of consignors and consignees technologies (third-type information). Therefore, the digital shadow is the inversion of the digital twin for each component. The author proposes the digital twin model and the corresponding digital shadow. This model is applied to road, railway and pipeline transport modes in Russia. The digital shadow, in turn, is given in the lowest possible resolution – in the binary assessment of the each information type components. The researcher assumes that the resulting digital shadow allows to conduct a generalised analysis and also forms the basis for identifying cause-effect relationships and forecasting.

ObjectiveThe objective of this study is to examine the association between livelihood capital and catastrophic health expenditure (CHE).DesignBetween July and August 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted in critically ill patients.SettingShandong, China.Participants1041 households with critically ill patients from 77 villages.Primary and secondary outcome measuresWe defined expenditure as being catastrophic if a household’s out-of-pocket payments were greater than or equal to 40% of their capacity to pay. Using the sustainable livelihoods framework, this study explored the associations between CHE and the various forms of livelihood capital—inclusive of human capital, natural capital, physical capital, financial capital and social capital. χ2 tests, t-tests, Wilcoxon tests and binary logistic regression analysis were performed to examine these associations.ResultsThe incidence of CHE among households with critically ill patients was 76.37% in this study. Better livelihood capital was significantly associated with lower incidence of CHE. After controlling for confounding factors, households with healthier patients (OR 0.47, 95% CI 0.23 to 0.96), more real estate ownership (OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.19 to 0.67) and better economic status (OR 0.33, 95% CI 0.18 to 0.62) were associated with a reduction in the occurrence of CHE.ConclusionsLivelihood capital was significantly associated with CHE in rural families with critically ill patients. This association suggests that, in addition to providing health insurance to the critically ill, more attention should be paid to their ability to create and preserve livelihood capital.

Résumé :
The phase transformations and the microstructure developments in Fe-Cu base alloys during isothermal aging are simulated based on the phase-field method. Since the chemical free energy used in this simulation is obtained from the thermodynamic database of phase diagrams, the calculated microstructure changes are directly related to the phase diagram of the real alloy system. Firstly the phase decomposition and the microstructure changes in the Fe-Cu binary alloy system are demonstrated as the simple example of the phase-field modeling, i.e., the phase decomposition in bcc phase where the Cu-rich phase forms, the structural phase transformation from bcc to fcc phase in the Cu-rich nano-particle, and the shape change of fcc-Cu precipitates from sphere to rod. Secondly, the phase decomposition in bcc phase of the multi-component alloys such as the Fe-Cu-X (X=Mn,Ni) ternary system and the Fe-Cu-Mn-Ni quaternary alloy is simulated. At the early stage of aging, the Cu-rich zone with bcc structure begins to nucleate, and the component X (=Mn, Ni) is partitioned to the Cu-rich phase. When the Cu composition in the precipitate reaches equilibrium, the component X inside the precipitates moves toward to the interface region between the precipitate and matrix. Finally, there appears the shell structure that the Cu precipitates surrounded by the thin layer with high concentration of component X.

The content of systemic network structuring of corruption as an institution of absolute anti-social orientation is revealed. Attention is paid to the conceptual purity of the categorical apparatus, in particular, the concepts of “corruption” and “bribery” are distinguished. The characteristics of personalized and corporate-associated subjects of corruption are given, the content of modern forms and characteristic varieties of the object of corruption bribery is revealed. A differentiated list is given and the content of specific markets of “corruption services” operating within the general “black” market of Ukraine is revealed. The socio-economic origins are shown and the nature of personal and corporate interests of the subjects, the bearers of corruption relations, is revealed. The real spectrum of destructive anti-social consequences of the synergy of the binary union of the “institution of corruption” with the “institution of the criminal “black” economy” is determined. There are three basic blocks of criminal economic activity: i) criminal trade; ii) provision of criminal services; iii) criminal violation of the rules of economic and commercial activity. On the basis of the generalized experience of the USA the necessary conditions are defined and suggestions are given concerning formation of organizational-economic and economic-legal anti-corruption mechanisms. It is proven that overcoming corruption is impossible without abolishing the legal principle of “presumption of innocence” in the field of confirming the legitimacy of taxpayers' incomes, who are obliged to provide comprehensive information proving the legitimacy of the sources of personal and family real estate. The conditions for ensuring an effective order in the field of accounting and control of the completeness of citizens ’compliance with tax obligations on the basis of improving the mechanism of income declaration and state-market accounting of real estate of the population of Ukraine are determined. In the context of critical remarks on the mistakes made over the past five years, proposals are made to improve the organizational-economic framework for declaring annual income, as well as socially just and anti-corruption legalization of wealth, property and capital of individuals by providing fair compensation to the state treasury for losses caused to the budget during the period of independence of Ukraine.

Résumé :
Two main paradigms split the core of the debate on governance structures: the maxi-minimizing and the satisficing paradigms. Some differences between the two has been hidden by the (only apparently) similarity of the “maximum” and “maximal” concepts. If the maximizing behavior refers to the maximum of the utility function and not to the maximal of a binary preference relation, then satisficing does not correspond to maximizing behavior. Besides such differences, from an empirically grounded point of view the maxi-minimizing approach to choose and to evaluate governance structures has relevant limitations. The remarkable limitations of the maxi-minimizing approach become further evident and crucial when one acknowledges that the comparison between alternative governance structures is – like almost any other human choice – unavoidably multicriteria. The absence of tradeoffs among the different criteria prevents the generalized use of a single real-valued function (utility, profit, cost, etc.) to represent decision maker's goals. However, multicriteria problems can be solved when properly dealt with outranking methods. These are heuristic choice algorithms fully consistent with the satisficing paradigm and with the behavioral economic theory. In order to show its effectiveness, a tutorial example is discussed in detail comparing the three main forms of governance structures: market, hierarchy and network. They are scrutinized by four evaluation criteria: profitability, effectiveness, accountability and organizational capability. It will be demonstrated that the outranking algorithm can solve multicriteria decision making problems under conflicting criteria of evaluation. Outranking solutions are at the same time satisficing solutions, that take into account and operationalize the Simonian “levels of aspiration” through concrete parameters.

Résumé :
Biofeedback-EEG training to learn the mental control of an external device (e.g., a cursor on the screen) has been an important paradigm to attempt to understand the involvements of various areas of the brain in the volitional control and the modulation of intentional thought processes. Often the areas to adapt and to monitor progress are selected a priori. Less explored, however, has been the notion of automatically emerging activation in a particular area or subregions within that area recruited above and beyond the rest of the brain. Likewise, the notion of evoking such a signal as an amodal, abstract one remaining robust across different sensory modalities could afford some exploration. Here we develop a simple binary control task in the context of brain-computer interface (BCI) and use a Bayesian sparse probit classification algorithm to automatically uncover brain regional activity that maximizes task performance. We trained and tested 19 participants using the visual modality for instructions and feedback. Across training blocks we quantified coupling of the frontoparietal nodes and selective involvement of visual and auditory regions as a function of the real-time sensory feedback. The testing phase under both forms of sensory feedback revealed automatic recruitment of the prefrontal cortex with a parcellation of higher strength levels in Brodmann's areas 9, 10, and 11 significantly above those in other brain areas. We propose that the prefrontal signal may be a neural correlate of externally driven intended direction and discuss our results in the context of various aspects involved in the cognitive control of our thoughts.

Résumé :
In this paper, we conduct an in-depth study and analysis of sports video recognition by improved hidden Markov model. The feature module is a complex gesture recognition module based on hidden Markov model gesture features, which applies the hidden Markov model features to gesture recognition and performs the recognition of complex gestures made by combining simple gestures based on simple gesture recognition. The combination of the two modules forms the overall technology of this paper, which can be applied to many scenarios, including some special scenarios with high-security levels that require real-time feedback and some public indoor scenarios, which can achieve different prevention and services for different age groups. With the increase of the depth of the feature extraction network, the experimental effect is enhanced; however, the two-dimensional convolutional neural network loses temporal information when extracting features, so the three-dimensional convolutional network is used in this paper to extract features from the video in time and space. Multiple binary classifications of the extracted features are performed to achieve the goal of multilabel classification. A multistream residual neural network is used to extract features from video data of three modalities, and the extracted feature vectors are fed into the attention mechanism network, then, the more critical information for video recognition is selected from a large amount of spatiotemporal information, further learning the temporal dependencies existing between consecutive video frames, and finally fusing the multistream network outputs to obtain the final prediction category. By training and optimizing the model in an end-to-end manner, recognition accuracies of 92.7% and 64.4% are achieved on the dataset, respectively.

Résumé :
The present multidisciplinary theoretical article develops its focal line of argument gradually. At first, feminist and narrative theory are consulted; after that, some treatments in the philosophy of mind are discussed. The latter’s correlative relationship with the recent “materialist turn” in philosophy affords to propose a tentative alternative to the current and universally accepted approaches to the (fictional) character much indebted to philosophical idealism. This latter observation also determines the broad – some might argue seemingly overtly complicated – theoretical reach of the article. However, its timely point of departure – the online misogynistic abuse in fan discussions directed at Breaking Bad’s Skyler White and the actress Anna Gunn –, enables to cast the issue of character engagement in necessarily broad terms, disciplinarily speaking. Be it in the context of different scientific disciplines or as the crucial vertebra connecting them, whilst also suggesting far-reaching philosophical implications. This kind of engagement, and especially its expression in online discourse, provides an impetus to inquire about the peculiarities of the human mind and the operation of human thought. Therefore, the present article zooms in on the conventionally understood binary relationship between “fiction” and “reality”, sketching appropriate terminology (continuance, narrative person, realitization) and theoretical framework (inspired, in part, by the Soviet school of philosophical Activity Theory) to help explain the human proclivity to treat characters in naïve realist terms, i.e., as real people. The central research question is as follows: what kind of ramifications can be detected for the conceptualization of character (and narrative) engagement from a particular kind of value-laden reception (like the forms of digital misogyny that emerged in the context of Breaking Bad’s reception)?

Résumé :
In this paper my aim is to analyze the theme of simulation in Charles Stross’ hard science fiction novel titled ‘Accelerando’ (2005). The discussion shall start by pointing out the enormous significance of the ideas of simulation both in the world of pure science as well as in the fields of philosophy, arts and literature. We shall show by adopting an informational approach and by using the theoretical framework of Baudrillard’s ‘Simulacra and Simulation’ that science fiction novels like Charles Stross’ ‘Accelerando’ treat simulation not just as an abstract mathematical entity existing independently of human beings; rather they treat simulation as an indispensable step for mankind in their journey of ascension to the Posthuman plane of existence. This paper will also try to prove that Stross’ ‘Accelerando’ not only relies upon the description of the effects of use of many incomprehensibly powerful simulation technologies in various forms to produce the effect of estrangement upon the readers but it also implies that the very fabric of reality which deem to be real is composed of binary oppositions between different strands of contradistinctive signs and symbols which in a posthuman world will crumble together to give way to a Posthuman world replete with endless possibilities. This novel like many other contemporary hard science fiction novels implies that the reality is essentially indistinguishable from the simulation once the influence of human perception or consciousness is deducted from the equation and then the entire Universe can be interpreted as one gigantic computational entity consisting of myriads of quantum informational field operators through the manipulation of which we can derive a semblance of power indistinguishable from the actual one. Keywords: Science Fiction, Posthumanism, Simulacra and Simulation, Quantum Nature of Creation, Portrayal of Future

Résumé :
Background: With the advent of data analysis and machine learning, there is a growing impetus of analyzing and generating models on historic data. The data comes in numerous forms and shapes with an abundance of challenges. The most sorted form of data for analysis is the numerical data. With the plethora of algorithms and tools it is quite manageable to deal with such data. Another form of data is of categorical nature, which is subdivided into, ordinal (order wise) and nominal (number wise). This data can be broadly classified as Sequential and Non-Sequential. Sequential data analysis is easier to preprocess using algorithms. Objective: The challenge of applying machine learning algorithms on categorical data of nonsequential nature is dealt in this paper. Methods: Upon implementing several data analysis algorithms on such data, we end up getting a biased result, which makes it impossible to generate a reliable predictive model. In this paper, we will address this problem by walking through a handful of techniques which during our research helped us in dealing with a large categorical data of non-sequential nature. In subsequent sections, we will discuss the possible implementable solutions and shortfalls of these techniques. Results: The methods are applied to sample datasets available in public domain and the results with respect to accuracy of classification are satisfactory. Conclusion: The best pre-processing technique we observed in our research is one hot encoding, which facilitates breaking down the categorical features into binary and feeding it into an Algorithm to predict the outcome. The example that we took is not abstract but it is a real – time production services dataset, which had many complex variations of categorical features. Our Future work includes creating a robust model on such data and deploying it into industry standard applications.

Résumé :
In the article the problem of coreference of terms nominated the common linguistic concept in the correlation with the problem of optimization (ordering) the Ukrainian terminological linguistic system is considered. The cognitive and functional potential of Ukrainian linguistic terms-coreferents is investigated in a broad Slavic background by the materials of Bibliographic Database of World Slavic Linguistics Publications iSybislaw – bibliographic information retrieval system which Institute of Ukrainian Language at NAS of Ukraine creates in coordination with the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The scale of equivalence for terms-coreferents within the same and different languages is determined. Types of equivalence of linguistic terms are considered by the examples of individual terms as well as by their various oppositions. The variant of term is interpreted broadly – as the existence of different terms with different forms, but with a common object of nomination. Our narrow understanding of variants consider as the presence of the same terms with the partial changes in their forms, eg.: спрощення – опрощення. The linguistic terms- coreferents different in content and the type of formal structure are organized in such oppositions: 1) modern and old variants from the point of view of the language standard: зіяння – зяяння; 2) codified terms and author’s innovations: модальне слово – модальник; 3) contemporary and outdated terms: іменник – речівник; 4) own and foreign terms: милозвучність – евфонія; 5) synthetic (one- word) and analytic (combination of words) terms: наказовий спосіб – імператив. Often such binary oppositions may be combined, reflecting the wide range of changes in the form of the terms in modern Ukrainian scientific and educational practice and the historical perspective of the development of Ukrainian linguistic terminological system, eg.: орудний відмінок – інструменталь – знаряддєвик, інфінітив – неозначена форма дієслова – дієйменник or дієслово – глагол – часівник – слово часове – часослово. The terms-coreferents present the real picture of verbalization the certain linguistic concepts in Ukrainian language. Groups of terms-coreferents enable optimization of the search of information in the database Isybislaw without changing the structure of its information retrieval language. However, the completeness of such groups is important as the manifestation of amplitude of possible modifications of the nomination of certain concepts in modern Ukrainian linguistics. Coordination of keyword’s list for Ukrainian language with the texts in the database will help organize terms within certain coreferent groups by decreasing of their cognitive and functional potential in the modern Ukrainian linguistic practice.
