Résumé :
In India the enormous loss of life and property perceived in the last couple of decades, attributable to failure of structures instigated by earthquakes. Responsiveness is now being given to the assessment of the sufficiency of strength in framed RCC structures to resist solid ground motions. The seismic reaction of RCC building frame in terms of performance point and the earthquake forces on Reinforced building frame with the help of pushover analysis is carried out in this project. In this method of analysis a model of the building is exposed to a lateral load. Pushover analysis can afford a substantial insight into the weak links in seismic concert of a structure and we can know the weak zones in the structure. In this project effort has been made to investigate the effect of Shear Wall and Structural Wall on lateral displacement and Base Shear in RCC Frames. RCC Frames with G+13 are considered, one with soft storey and other with normal building in L- shape. The pushover analysis of the RCC building frame is carried out by structural analysis and design software ETABS.

Résumé :
Abstract: Modern tall buildings have efficient structural systems, and utilize high-strength materials, resulting in reduced building height, and thus, become slenderer and more flexible with low damping. These flexible buildings are very sensitive to wind excitation and earthquake load causing discomfort to the building occupants. Therefore, in order to mitigate such an excitation and to improve the performance of tall buildings against wind loads and earthquake loads, the tube in tube structures and tube frame structures are the innovative and fresh concept in the tubular structures. Generally, tube in tube structures is formed by connecting peripheral frame tube and inner core tube so closely, it is not seen as a solid system but it acts like a solid surface. The total loads acting on the structures to be collectively shared between the inner and outer tubes. The tubed frames Structure are new concept for tall building. In tubed mega frames instead of one central tube several vertical tubes are carrying the lateral loads. a comparative study of tube in tube structures and tubed mega frame system with different building geometry has been done using ETABS software.

Résumé :
The present decade, high rise multi-storey buildings are subjected to many external effects such as earthquake, wind loads, tidal loads, etc., in most cases high rise buildings have more vulnerable to earthquake and wind loads. Most of the reinforced concrete multi-storeyed frame buildings were heavily damaged and many of them completely collapsed during due earthquakes. RC frame buildings were severely damaged due to various deficiencies when proper codal provisions are not designed. A study is need to study the behaviour of the RC framed structure under earthquake load to reduce the damage caused by earthquake forces In this investigation a RC framed building of G+20 storeyed is considered in several seismic zones under different soils as per Indian Standard code IS 1893(part1):2016, using STAAD. Pro V8i as software tool. Finally evaluate the ultimate Base shear using Equivalent static method and Response spectrum method addressing under design forces.

Résumé :
Abstract Recently, the reinforced cement concrete (RCC) frame has been one of the most commonly used structural systems for buildings in the high seismic region due to its inherent earthquake-resistant property. However, there is still a deficiency in understanding the RCC building structural system dynamic behaviour during significant earthquakes. A 1/4th scaled RCC framed building structure has been tested on the shake table in the present study. The response in terms of engineering parameters like natural time period, damping, story acceleration, and damage pattern have been reported. The 1940 EL-Centro (NS component) time history has been used for the study. The failure patterns were observed within the column-beam joints. The difference between the input signal and the output signal has been noted and found to be in good agreement with each other.

Résumé :
Steel-concrete composite constructions in Bangladesh are nowadays very popular owing to their advantages over conventional concrete and steel constructions. Concrete structures are massive and allot more seismic weight and less deflection whereas steel structures instruct more deflections and ductility to the structure, which is beneficial in resisting earthquake and wind forces. Composite construction combines the better properties of both steel and concrete along with lesser cost, speedy construction, fire protection etc. The objective of this study was to analysis and design ground floor plus 19 storied R.C.C, Steel and Composite (steel-concrete) multi-storied parking structure’s frame of same plan using ETABS 2013 software and compare their structural parameters with estimated cost for required material. All frames are designed for same gravity and dynamic loadings. The RCC deck-slab is used in steel and composite frame. Beam and column sections are made of RCC, steel or steel-concrete composite sections. The composite construction option provided about 25 % and 18% less cost when compared to RCC and steel structure, respectively. Comparative study concludes that the composite frames are best suited among all the three types of constructions in terms of material cost and benefit added with better structural behaviour.

Abstract: This research work focuses on comparison of seismic analysis of G+12 story buildings stiffened with shear wall at various locations. The performance of the building is analysed in Zone II, for Mumbai city. This research paper includes understanding the main zone factor that tends the structure to perform poorly during lateral moments caused by earthquake in order to achieve their appropriate behaviour under future earthquakes. The analysed structure is symmetrical, G+12, Ordinary RC moment-resting frame (OMRF). Modelling of the structure is done by using staad proV8i software. The Time period used for the seismic calculations of the structure in both the direction is achieved from the software and as per IS 1893(part I):2016 seismic analysis has conducted. The Lateral seismic forces of RC frame are carried out using equivalent static method as per IS 1893(part I): 2016. The purpose of present work is to understand that the structures need to have suitable Earthquake resisting features to safely resist large lateral forces exerted on structure during lateral movement of structure. Shear walls are efficient (model no.3), In terms of effectiveness in minimizing lateral movement and damage caused due to the earthquake in structure the conventional frame system also provides the resistance to structure but it is unable to minimise the damage caused by the earthquake in structure. Résumé :
Abstract: Structure analysis and design are significantly influenced by earthquake. It is believed that seismic evaluation is required for the viability and serviceability of both present and future building structures. When a structure's base is subjected to a certain type of ground motion, a time history analysis is performed to examine the dynamic reaction of the structure at each time interval. The near-field earthquake ground motion verification may have specific impacts for both forward and backward directivity. The initial's velocity and displacement motions, respectively, exhibit pulse and fling-step characteristics. Therefore, it is crucial to assess how well structures built solely to withstand the primary shock would work through future aftershocks. Using modern seismic protection systems, such as base isolations or / and supplemental dampening devices, that significantly reduce building damages during main shocks and their related aftershocks is one of the appropriate solutions to this issue. Due to changes in both static and dynamic stress that take place during the earthquake process, aftershock events are set off by the primary shock. In order to better understand the ground motion features of a sizable collection of mainshock and subsequent aftershock ground motion data recorded in accelerograph stations around the region, this study reviews pertinent literature in the field. The G+9 RCC building will be used in this study to conduct a time history analysis of the mainshock and aftershock data of the Chamoli earthquake provided by the Centre for Engineering Strong Motion Research Ground Motion Database. For designing purposes, the IS 456-2000 code is taken into consideration. Live loads are measured in accordance with IS 875-part 1, and seismic zone IV is selected for analysis in accordance with IS 1893-2016. Storey drift, base shear, joint reactions, and storey displacement are just a few of the variables that can have an impact on how well a building performs. Since each of these variables has a significant impact on how a structure responds to seismic loads, they are also taken into account when evaluating the results.

Résumé :
Abstract Strong Ground Motions have a significant impact on structural analysis and design. Seismic evaluation is deemed necessary for the quality, reliability, and feasibility of existing and developing structures. Earthquakes are even more disastrous when a mainshock is succeeded and preceded by aftershocks of higher magnitude. Most of the time, these aftershocks are ignored during analysis. In the last few decades, steel buildings have been crucial to the construction sector. On the other hand, RCC frames are commonly designed structures for commercial purposes and cost-effectiveness. IS 1893 (Part:1)-2002 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures and IS 13920-2016 Ductile Detailing of RC Structures Subjected to Seismic Reactions are majorly used for Seismic Analysis. Steel bracings in the structural system increase the ductility and stiffness of the frame structure. That can be arranged in a variety of ways, such as X, diagonally, alternatively, V, inverted V, K, etc. Cross bracings are used in this paper for the design of a typical multi-story (G+9) semi-rigid steel frame and a typical RCC frame is designed of the same dimensions. Both the frames are modelled and compared using ETABS software and a static nonlinear Time History analysis is executed to examine the performance of both the frames under the Mainshock and Aftershock of Chamoli earthquake. The Mainshock and Aftershock results of the Chamoli earthquake are extracted from the Centre for Engineering Strong Motion Research Ground Motion Database. Base shear, joint displacement, kinetic energy, and story displacement are a few of the variables of Time History Analysis that affect how well a building performs during mainshock and aftershock earthquakes. When analysing the outcomes, it is important to take into account that each of these factors significantly affects how a building responds to seismic loads.

Résumé :
The major purpose of this study is to justify construction method of a hybrid structure in core area with construction complexity due unsafe excavation conditions and tries to define its rigidity and strength. Both RCC and Frame structure transfer same load to ground through foundation but the transfer mechanism varies. In some practical condition, building construction should be carried out in compact areas with unsafe adjoining building where adequate excavation for foundation cannot be carried out. In such cases, one bay hybrid structure is proposed for construction with combined RCC frame structure and load bearing walls. In these combined cases, both structures works as same unit to transfer building load but the transfer pattern varies. The variable load transfer pattern is due to discontinuity in structural system which also effect on seismic response of the building. The placement of a masonry load bearing structure in RCC frame structure varies design of all structural components of the building. To study actual behavior of hybrid structure in various load condition and introducing cost minimization techniques of buildings structural analysis was carried using ETABS 2016 with composite structural arrangement and with induction of load bearing wall as structural component. By which seismic behavior of building in both cases was obtained as well as reduction in rebar percentage and dimensional reduction of structural components can be achieved.Journal of the Institute of Engineering, 2017, 13(1): 117-124

Résumé :
Abstract: Damage indices which take into account both maximum deformation and cyclic effects were developed by Park and Ang. In the field of structural engineering, it’s observed that the Park and Ang damage index is mostly used for RCC structure. The damage index parameter assessed based on plastic hinge approach which is not effective to consider the coupled response between axial force and flexural moment especially in nonlinear domain. The accurate damage evaluations of structure are depending on other parameter such as, accurate modelling of frame, selection ground motion records. Masonry infill walls are widely used as partitions all over the world. Commonly masonry walls are not considered in the damage evaluation process because they are supposed to act as non-structural members or elements. Fiber discretization technique is used to consider inelastic behaviors of member. Single strut is model as infill wall in multidirectional. Results obtained from this study show that the accuracy of damage index totally depends on damage parameter consideration and modeling of building. The coupled effects give more realistic damage of structure as compared with other damage parameters.

Abstract: The objective of present study is to analyze and compare the change in location of floating column in R.C.C frame structure. The comparison of both structures is studied by calculating, finding and tabulating comparative values of displacement. The study reflects that with change in structure i.e. the behavior of structure towards earthquake changes, nodal displacement, moment, and base shear values shows drastic changes towards resistivity against seismic forces. The soft computing tool and commercial software STAAD-Pro is used for modeling and analysis also the study done over here thus helps to understand effect of earthquake on structures for achieving stable and safe structure.

Résumé :
Abstract High rise structures becoming very common everywhere due to scarcity of land and increasing population. Though we have RCC structure system as high-rise buildings, but in RCC buildings due to bulky size of the components of the structure self-weight will be more due to the heavy density of materials. By observing the difficulties and challenges in the field of high-rise structures engineers are using efficient structural system that is Steel Concrete Composite Structure. Composite structure consists composite deck slab, composite beam and composite column. Composite Structure complies of Concrete which is good in compression and structural steel which good in tension and composition of these material makes structure better in ductility which comparatively on higher side than RCC structure. Here G+7 high rise structure is considered for analysis by ETABS software. This paper involves Analysis of Commercial building by Equivalent static method on Composite structure and RCC structure with same plan of building and same design data. The structure is in earthquake zone III and wind speed 44m/s. Analytical comparisons of both Composite and RCC frame based on structural parameters are made with help of graphs and tables. By comparing the results, we found that Steel-Concrete Composite Structures are more desirable than RCC structures.

Precast Steel-Reinforced Concrete (PSRC) structural frame systems for moment-resisting, comprised of Prefabricated Steel (S) girders and Precast Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) columns. This structural system has the advantage of inherent stiffness and damping during a seismic event. PSRC’s moment-resisting frame system is also known for its construction efficiency, lightweight, and low cost. Earlier investigations have shown PSRC systems helpful in designing and constructing buildings while maintaining ample strength and high ductility during seismic incidents. Despite much previous research, the use of the PSRC structural system in India is still limited. Previous studies have accepted a vital need to test comprehensive structural systems, both experimentally and analytically - to validate the knowledge collected to date and act as evidence of concept for the PSRC moment-resisting frame system. This paper aims to facilitate more recognition and use of the PSRC structural system as a feasible choice for traditional RCC lateral resisting systems. A shake-table test was conducted to evaluate the PSRC building performance during maximum considered earthquake events. The comparative study of experimental and numerical results of the 1/4th scaled building is presented.

Résumé :
Earthquake causes considerable damage to a large number of RCC high-rise buildings and tremendous loss of life. Therefore, designers and structural engineers should ensure to offer adequate earthquake resistant provisions with regard to planning, design, and detailing in high-rise buildings to withstand the effect of an earthquake and minimize disaster. As an earthquake resistant system, the use of coupled shear walls is one of the potential options in comparison with moment resistant frame (MRF) and shear wall frame combination systems in RCC high-rise buildings. Furthermore, it is reasonably well established that it is uneconomical to design a structure considering its linear behavior during earthquake. Hence, an alternative design philosophy needs to be evolved in the Indian context to consider the postyield behavior wherein the damage state is evaluated through deformation considerations. In the present context, therefore, performance-based seismic design (PBSD) has been considered to offer significantly improved solutions as compared to the conventional design based on linear response spectrum analysis.

Résumé :
386 Background: Aberrant alternative splicing (AS) events have been implicated in the initiation and progression of various cancers; however, the detailed nature of their role in RCC is yet to be fully elucidated. Our study aims to characterize AS events in RCC tumors using a novel AS pipeline (Bisbee). Methods: We retrospectively identified patients (pts) with RCC who had tumor-normal whole exome sequencing and tumor whole transcriptome sequencing (GEMExtra, Ashion Analytics) performed as part of their routine clinical care. AS events from RNA sequencing data were identified and further characterized as (1) alternative splice 3’ site (A3), (2) alternative splice 5’ site (A5), (3) exon skipping (ES), (4) intron retention (IR), and (5) mutually exclusive exons splice events (MUT). The Bisbee outlier analysis was performed against normal kidney tissues from the GTEx tissue library to further identify tumor-associated splice events. Outlier splice events were categorized as either non-coding/protein loss/silent, isoform switch, novel, or unknown. Results: Overall, 147 RCC pts (77% male) with RNA sequencing data were included in this analysis. Median age at diagnosis was 60 (range 31-94) and 97% of pts had metastatic RCC. The distribution of histology was 85% clear cell RCC followed by 11% papillary RCC. The AS analysis identified 25,928 outlier splice events. Approximately 60% of these were predicted to be protein-coding events, with the majority arising from IR and ES. These were followed by A3, A5, and MUT, in descending order of frequency. We also examined tumor-associated novel outlier events where 70% of analyzed RCC tumor samples noted 34 tumor-associated novel events were present, shared in most of the cohort and found an enrichment for IR events leading to frame disruptions. Data of splice variants will be presented at the meeting. Conclusions: In depth examination of this large cohort suggests that IR resulting from AS events occur frequently within RCC. Further efforts to investigate the association of AS events and clinical outcomes are underway.

Abstract: The stairs have significant influence on the seismic lateral stiffness, vibration mode and internal force of frame beam column of the reinforced concrete frame structure. In this paper, 3 analysis models have been made by E-TABS. In these models, relevant analysis has been made about the influence of stairs in 10-storey building while it has no staircase, it is near the middle of the building and while it is near the corner of the building. Results from linear analysis show that in concrete structure, it is essential to consider the modelling of staircase as it causes additional stiffness and change in coordinate of center of rigidity. These effects can be evaluated in period, stiffness, base shear, lateral load and displacement of the structure.

Abstract: This present study focuses G +14 Simple Building model In STAAD PRO software. With beam size 300 X 400 mm and column size 400 X 500 mm this reinforced concrete building having M30 grade of Concrete and Fe415 high density steel. To study the response of building with and without bracing system. The performance of the building is analyzed in Zone III, Zone IV, Zone V. Metallic braces is the easiest of simplest way of reducing response of building which gave rise to nine models for the analysis.Model1 in -BFB- Bare frame RCC Building.Model2 in -BX1-Framed building with Bracing at the exterior side along X-direction.Model3 in -BY2- Framed building with Bracing at the exterior side along Y-direction.Model4 in -BXY3- Framed building with Bracing at the exterior side along X and Y-direction.Model5 in-BEC4- Framed building with Bracing at the exterior side around the corners. This system of bracing is used because eccentric bracing systems consist of a link element that undergoes inelastic deformation for energy dissipation. This link is possibly beam element of frame structure which is more suitable for steel structures and not for reinforced concrete structures and a shear wall is a structural panel that can withstand the impact of lateral forces on it. Lateral forces are those parallel to the wall plane and are usually wind loads and seismic loads. This building has been modeled as 3D Space frame model with six degree of freedom at each node using STAAD PRO. software for stimulation of behavior under gravity and seismic loading.

Résumé :
Abstract Experimental investigation of RCC beam provide an important understanding on its flexural properties. The stages involved from the design to casting, curing, testing and interpretation of results is time consuming and involves economy and labour. To reduce the above said challenges, numerical investigation seems to be an alternate without involvement of money and labour. Preliminary design stages involves design equation which are provided by the basic experiments conducted and they also give the basic information to develop the finite element model. This paper presents the numerical investigation of RCC beam to study the flexural properties using an effective finite element analysis tool ABAQUS. RCC beam prototypes were casted and their flexural properties were experimentally investigated. The results were validated through the finite element model by providing suitable properties for the material that are actually used for the prototype with the desired loading and support conditions. Beam of size 3000 x 230 x 300 mm of M20 grade concrete was casted and tested in the loading frame for flexure and deflection. The study focussed for under reinforced, balanced and over reinforced sections. Numerical analysis was performed using ABAQUS for model geometry and the results were compared with the experimental results. The results agreed with both the experimental and numerical values. Numerical results helps in developing reliable models which can reduce the number of required test specimens for conducting experiments and the model can be used for various study. Also from the finite element results the propagation of cracks can be well understood for the actual specimen.

Résumé :
Systemic treatment of renal cancer (RCC) has undergone remarkable changes over the past 20 years with the introduction of immunotherapeutic agents targeting programmed cell death (PD-1)/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis, as a single-agent or combined with anti-CTLA-4 monoclonal antibodies (MoAbs) or a multi-target vascular endothelial growth factor-(VEGF) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). In this paper, we review the main evidence on the use of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors (ICIs) for RCC treatment from the first demonstration of activity of a nivolumab single agent in a phase I trial to the novel combination strategies (anti-PD-1 plus anti-CTLA4 or anti-PD-1 plus TKI). In addition, we discuss the use of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 agents in patients with non-clear cells and rare histological subtype RCC. Then, we critically examine the current findings in biomarkers that have been proposed to be prognostic or predictive to the response of immunotherapy including immune gene expression signature, B7-H1 expression, PBRM1 loss of function, PD-L1 expression, frame shift indel count, mutations in bromodomain-containing genes in patients with MiT family translocation RCC (tRCC), high expression of the T-effector gene signature, and a high myeloid inflammation gene expression pattern. To date, a single biomarker as a predictor of response has not been established. Since the dynamic behavior of the immune response and the different impact of ICI treatment on patients with specific RCC subtypes, the integration of multiple biomarkers and further validation in clinical trials are needed.

e16107 Background: Guidelines recommend surgical resection of primary tumor in stages 1-3 RCC. TTS refers to the time frame from the initial diagnosis to surgical resection of primary tumor. Shorter TTS has shown OS benefit in breast, head and neck cancers whereas longer TSS was shown to be acceptable in colon cancer. However, no such data exists for RCC. Using National Cancer Data Base (NCDB), we sought to determine the factors associated with TTS and its effect on OS. Methods: Patients with RCC who underwent partial or total nephrectomy were included, excluding those received neoadjuvant therapy. Logistic regression model was utilized to evaluate relative risk of delayed TTS. OS in association with TTS was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and Cox multivariate analysis (MVA). Results: A total of 60,198 RCC patients met the inclusion criteria. In contrast to a prior study that showed a median TTS of 41 days our study showed a median TTS of 35 days. We dichotomized the TTS as ≤ 35 days or ≥ 36 days. On MVA, TSS ≥ 36 days had significantly better OS (HR: 0.95 [CI:0.92-0.99], p < 0.01). Factors associated with TSS ≥ 36 days were race, insurance, higher Charlson score, lower grade, and getting managed at academic facilities and Pacific region (p < 0.01) (Table). Conclusions: A longer TTS with RCC is understandably associated with greater comorbidity, and non-private insurance, but questionably so in race, ethnicity, and facility related factors. However, given that TTS ≥ 36 days was not associated with higher risk of death, it may indicate that a reasonable delay could be pursued in certain cases for more accurate preoperative evaluation. Résumé :
The Building behaves nonlinearly as a result of both man-made and natural risks. Flat slab construction has several advantages over traditional RC frame construction. This work examines the progressive collapse analysis of a flat slab structure using a non-linear static analysis approach known as pushover analysis. In this sort of study, a computer model of a structure is exposed to a preset lateral load pattern. The modeling of a structure is done by software named ETABS, and pushover analysis is done. By doing this pushover analysis, we can identify the weak points in the structure and decide whether the specific portion of the building should be retrofitted or changed to satisfy the requirements. Pushover analysis is conducted in both positive and negative x and y directions. For each member, default hinge parameters based on the FEMA-356 and Applied Technology Council (ATC-40) criteria are applied.

Résumé :
Progressive collapse starts when any load-carrying elements of the building collapse during extreme loading, such as earthquakes, blasts, or fire. The Precast Steel Reinforced Concrete (PSRC) buildings comprise of precast RCC columns and steel girders. These structural elements are connected to form a moment-resisting frame and are susceptible to progressive collapse. However, this structural system has the advantage of inherent stiffness and damping during lateral loads and is also known for its construction efficiency, lightweight and low cost. Earlier investigations have shown PSRC systems useful in designing and constructing buildings while maintaining ample strength and high ductility during seismic incidents. Despite much previous research, the PSRC structural system's use is limited in high seismic regions. This paper aims to study the progressive collapse of the PSRC building using non-linear dynamic analysis and U.S. General Service Administration (GSA) guidelines during extreme loading. Two structures are studied to validate the performance of progressive collapse of PSRC and RCC structures. Four-story PSRC and RCC buildings are designed according to Indian Codes of practice. Design columns under provisions of the Indian reinforced concrete structures code, and beams are designed according to the Indian steel construction code. Comparative studies of progressive collapse for the two buildings are presented.

Abstract: In the context of the seismic evaluation of building structures, nonlinear static analysis that makes use of pushover processes is becoming an increasingly common technique in engineering practice. In order to carry out a pushover study, the document FEMA-356 (2000) suggests using a variety of distributions of lateral forces. The use of these force distributions, on the other hand, does not adequately reflect the effects of modifying dynamic parameters across the inelastic response or the influence of higher modes. Four different lateral load patterns are investigated in this body of work by contrasting the pushover responses of RCC moment frame buildings with five and twelve stories.
