Résumé :
This is an area where there is considerable disagreement on the definition of concepts, and what is right and wrong. Accordingly you should read widely and critically; never assume that you need to accept every concept and every assertion. You will probably be able to find an exception to every rule (see Feyer bend, 1975, for an extreme version of this principle). These notes are intended as a brief overview of the main issues. It is important that you read in more depth on the specific issues of particular concern to you. For example, if you intend to conduct some interviews or a questionnaire survey, it is important that you consult a suitable source of guidance on surveys, interviews and questionnaires – eg Saunders et al (2003), Robson (2002), Easterby-Smith et al (2002).

Résumé :
This study tries to propose using questionnaires in L1 and L2 as a method for investigating awareness of the translation relationship between L1 and L2 sentences by EFL learners at the intermediate level. The participants in this study were Jordanian university students majoring in computer science with Arabic as L1 and English as L2. They were given two versions of a questionnaire; one in Arabic and another in English, to elicit their attitudes towards technology. Then, they were interviewed to find out if they were aware of the translation relationship between the two versions of the questionnaire. The results show that the correlation between the students’ responses to most items on L1 and L2 questionnaires was not generally high. The results also show that the students' responses in the interview indicated that few of them were aware of the translation relationship between the two questionnaires. These results support the Linguistic Threshold Hypothesis regarding the relationship between L1 and L2 reading comprehension, and they indicate that questionnaires can be used as a method for investigating the translation relationship between L1 and L2 sentences. The results also indicate that L2 questionnaires can be a particularly challenging genre for L2 learners. .

Résumé :
In recent years, there appears to have been an increase in the number of postal questionnaires being received by ENT consultants. Questionnaires with unsound methodology waste the time of those who send and receive them, as inferences cannot be made from their results. In this study, a review was performed on a sample of 19 questionnaire studies published in two ENT journals between January 1998 and December 2002. Each study was given a 30-point score, based on the quality of its methodology. The average score assigned to each study was 32 per cent, suggesting that the quality of methodology was generally poor. These results should serve as a warning to those embarking on and those interpreting research of this kind.

Résumé :
The article presents the results of standardization of the "Personality’s Agency Activity Profile" methodology. This methodology is the author's multidimensional personality questionnaire, with confirmed validity and reliability, and is aimed at discovering the personality positioning system that determines the nature and orientation of the agent’s activity. The problems of standardization of personal psychological questionnaires are raised, in particular, the problems of the relativity of the norms obtained during standardization and the need for additional indicators to receive a correct psychodiagnostic interpretation. A step-by-step scheme for standardizing the methodology scales has been implemented on a sample of 958 people, including a test for the normality and homogeneity of empirical distributions. The need for differentiated standardization of the methodology depending on the gender and age of the respondents has been substantiated using the methods of mathematical statistics. For the middle-aged (25-42 years old) part of the sample, tables for converting raw test scores to stanines have been built up and presented.

Résumé :
Background: Nursing and health care research are increasingly using e-questionnaires and e-forms for data collection and survey conduction. The main reason lies in costs, time and data-entry errors containment, increased flexibility, functionality and usability. In spite of this growing usage, no specifc and comprehensive guidelines for designing and submitting e-questionnaires have been produced so far. Objective: The aim of this review is to collect information on the current best practices, taking them from various fields of application. An evaluation of the efficacy of the single indication is provided. Method: A literature review of guidelines currently available on WebSM (Web Survey Methodology) about electronic questionnaire has been performed. Four search strings were used: “Electronic Questionnaire Design”, “Electronic Questionnaire”, “Online Questionnaire” and “Online survey”. Articles’ inclusion criteria were English language, relevant topic in relation to the aim of the research and the publication date from January 1998 to July 2014. Results: The review process led to identify 48 studies. The greater part of guidelines is reported for Web, and e-mail questionnaire, while a lack of indications emerges especially for app and e-questionnaires. Conclusion: Lack of guidelines on e-questionnaires has been found, especially in health care research, increasing the risk of use of ineffective and expensive instruments; more research in this field is needed.

Résumé :
With the rapid development of data science, digital technology is integrating deeply with enterprise management, driving companies towards digital transformation to achieve sustainable development. However, digital transformation is a systematic and comprehensive process, posing challenges in accurately depicting firm-level digitalization. Hence, this study systematically reviews measurement methods for digital transformation across various themes related to enterprise digitalization. Existing literature predominantly employs questionnaire analysis, quantitative statistics, and text analysis to gauge the extent of digital transformation. In terms of indicator construction, existing literature mainly relies on input, process, and outcome variables to construct measurement indicators. Nevertheless, due to the subjectivity of questionnaires, the uniqueness of industry data, and the limitations of textual information, these methods and the indicators derived from them possess distinct applicability scopes. Refining the measurement of digital transformation should hinge on both the research objectives and the characteristics of the data. Furthermore, through the analysis of industry cases such as agriculture, manufacturing and service industries, this study also reveals the unique characteristics encountered by these industries in the process of digital transformation, provides a more detailed summary of measurement methods for these specific industries, and emphasizes the importance of selecting measurement methods according to industry characteristics.

Résumé :
The use of email and fax communications has increased dramatically over the last decade. They are now commonplace methods of information exchange. Most research involving questionnaires has used postal mail to deliver and return the surveys from recipients who might not otherwise be reached through live administration. A frequent methodological issue with mail surveys is low levels of return rates. The present research compared the return rates of a survey that was sent by mail, email or fax. Participants could return the survey by any of the same three methods. The results showed that postal mail and email exhibited higher return rates than facsimiles and that the method of return tended to be the same method in which the questionnaire was originally sent. Implications of these results for survey research are discussed.

Résumé :
In 2013, the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Overuse Injury Questionnaire (OSTRC-O) was developed to record the magnitude, symptoms and consequences of overuse injuries in sport. Shortly afterwards, a modified version of the OSTRC-O was developed to capture all types of injuries and illnesses—The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Questionnaire on Health Problems (OSTRC-H). Since then, users from a range of research and clinical environments have identified areas in which these questionnaires may be improved. Therefore, the structure and content of the questionnaires was reviewed by an international panel consisting of the original developers, other user groups and experts in sports epidemiology and applied statistical methodology. Following a review panel meeting in October 2017, several changes were made to the questionnaires, including minor wording alterations, changes to the content of one question and the addition of questionnaire logic. In this paper, we present the updated versions of the questionnaires (OSTRC-O2 and OSTRC-H2), assess the likely impact of the updates on future data collection and discuss practical issues related to application of the questionnaires. We believe this update will improve respondent adherence and improve the quality of collected data.

Résumé :
This paper considers the study of stress in school principals from three perspectives. In the first of these reference is made to three critical reviews of studies which have revealed heavy dependence on data gathered via questionnaires and treated by correlational analysis, the inadequacy of conceptual frameworks, and wide variations in the definitions of stress. Acknowledgement is then made of several Australian studies through the 1980s and 1990s which have investigated stress in principals in situ through observation and observation plus physiological measurement. Finally, consideration is given to possible future methodologies that seek to address criticisms of stress research by acknowledging the place of both appropriate questionnaires and observation/physiological measures and suggesting how these may be productively combined.

The purpose of this research is to provide a job satisfaction matrix for further clarification of the interrelationships between individual emotional exhaustion, job properties, and organizational factors of job satisfaction. Job satisfaction was evaluated through the use of a novel, fuzzy rule-based algorithm. Interviews were conducted to generate data on the effective factors of job satisfaction. Following interview analysis and using categories suggested by the interview data, questionnaires were generated offering linguistic choice to support the qualitative aspect of job satisfaction. A stratified sampling technique was employed to find a sample of interviewees for the questionnaires. The job satisfaction matrix provides further clarification of the interrelationships between individual factors and is track-able in time intervals for identifying the dissatisfaction factors. The research demonstrated that by using the weighted scores of the data, strategies could be suggested to fill the gaps between ideal and reported satisfaction outcomes.

Abstract AIMS CaPaBLE tests the feasibility and acceptability of assessing quality of life (QoL) using the patient-, or caregiver-generated index (PGI/CaGI) methodology in patients with HGG and their caregivers. METHOD CaPaBLE, (https://www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN45555598), followed patients and/or their caregivers up to 6 months. Standard measures for patients were EORTC QLQ-C30/BN20, for caregivers the CarGOQOL questionnaire. The QoL topics raised through PGI/CaGI have been coded to the most relevant domain from their respective standard measure for an initial assessment of concordance. RESULTS 36 patients, 24 caregivers recruited to study; completing an average of 3 study assessment timepoints. PGI and CaGI generated 240 and 160 topics respectively. Patient concerns most frequently coded to EORTC domain of Role Functioning; Caregiver concerns mostly coded to CarGOQOL domain of Burden. Other topics frequently raised by patients such as the driving and sex life, and future planning by caregivers are not specifically raised in standard questionnaires. CONCLUSION Nearly all topics raised by patients and caregivers were mapped to the domains of their respective standard QoL measure. However, almost half of all topics raised by patients and caregivers mapped to a minority of the domains included in standard measures; whilst a notable number of topics are not specifically included in standard measures at all. This raises questions regarding the efficiency and relevance of such questionnaires to patient and caregivers’ daily lives.

Résumé :
This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Overuse Injury Questionnaire (OSTRC-O) and the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center Questionnaire on Health Problems (OSTRC-H) into the Japanese context. The validity and reliability of these translated questionnaires examining overuse injuries and health problems among Japanese university athletes were also examined. The translation was performed following an internationally recognized methodology. A total of 145 athletes were tracked over 10 consecutive weeks and four questions were added in the 10th week to examine the questionnaires’ content validity. Test-retest analysis for reliability was performed 24–72 hours after the 10th week of registration. Internal consistency was determined by calculating Cronbach’s a during the cohort study. No major disagreements were found in the translation process. The translated questionnaires had high acceptance and compliance, with an average response rate of over 80% throughout the 10-week cohort study. Most participants reported that the questionnaires were not difficult to complete, there were no items they wanted to change or add, and that the web-based technique worked effectively. Good test-retest reliability and high internal consistency was observed in the translated questionnaires. The translated questionnaires were found to be valid, reliable, and acceptable for medically monitoring Japanese athletes.

Résumé :
Objectives The purpose of this study is to explain and introduce a methodology of teaching and learning cor-pus-based English vocabulary to Korean college students. Methods A total of fifty-five students were divided into two groups. The control group included twenty-eight subjects and they took vocabulary lessons in the traditional method. The experimental group had twenty-seven learners and they did corpus-based vocabulary exercises. They were all female students. During one semester, the two groups studied all the same content and amount of target vocabulary, but they practiced two different types of vocabulary exercises at the beginning of the lessons. Four instruments were used to collect data from the learners: vocabulary tests, grammar tests, questionnaires and self-reports. Results The result in this study showed that the two groups achieved significantly better scores in post vocabulary and grammar tests. Furthermore, the experimental group did better than the control group in grammar. Through questionnaires and self-reports, the students shared various feelings and opinions of the two classes after lessons. They expressed positive opinions and feelings about learning English and favoured the idea of studying vocabulary with self-reports. Some students felt the class was too easy. Conclusions This research suggests an effective method for teaching corpus-based vocabulary. It also states the limitations of the study and has implications in TESOL for Korean College learners as they study the lexis.

ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to determine patient satisfaction compared to nurse perception of patient satisfaction in Peri-anesthesia unit.BackgroundIn 2014 American Society of Anesthesiology published guidelines stating standards for care for hypervigilance during perioperative patient assessments. Other policy publications focus on equipment and practices in this clinical setting. However, none of these sources provide an account of patient experience.MethodsThis is a Prospective, convenience paired matched sampling study using Three multichoice questionnaires were distributed to patients and nurses in this unit. Both nurse and patient questionnaires were distributed simultaneously and paired.Results200 patients and total staff 30 nurses, 26 participated in the study-response rate 87%. Patients' perception showed highest level of satisfaction in nurses' listening. The nurses rated patients' satisfaction with communication and environmental conditions highest compared to other categories. The only significant difference between the nurses and patients' perceptions was in specific symptom communication, patients rated this lower satisfaction compared to nurses ranking this domain.ConclusionIn conclusion, similarity was found between nurses' and patients' ratings. This knowledge is relevant in raising awareness that nurses should be more vigilant evaluating and inquiring about peri-operative patients' symptoms.

Résumé :
Many counselor education and supervision (CES) doctoral programs offer doctoral-level teaching instruction courses as part of their curriculum to help prepare students for future teaching roles, yet little is known about the essential design, delivery, and evaluation components of these courses. Accordingly, the authors investigated instructor and student views on the essential design, delivery, and evaluation components of a doctoral counselor education teaching instruction (CETI) course using Q methodology. Eight first-year CES doctoral students and the course instructor from a large Midwestern university completed Q-sorts, which were factor analyzed. Three factors were revealed, which were named The Course Designer, The Future Educator, and The Empathic Instructor. The authors gathered post–Q-sort qualitative data from participants using a semi-structured questionnaire, and the results from the questionnaires were incorporated into the factor interpretations. Implications for incorporating the findings into CES pedagogy and for designing, delivering, and evaluating CETI courses are presented. Limitations and future research suggestions for CETI course design and delivery are discussed.

Résumé :
Background Patient satisfaction has become an important component of quality improvement in ambulatory anesthesia services. However, it is difficult to measure due to its subjective and complex psychological construct. Psychometric methodology has been successfully used to evaluate this outcome. The authors conducted a systematic review to evaluate questionnaires to measure patient satisfaction with ambulatory anesthesia. Methods A systematic literature search of The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, HAPI, PsycINFO, and Dissertation Abstracts was performed to identify studies on questionnaires evaluating patient satisfaction after ambulatory anesthesia. The authors included the articles that used multiple-item questionnaires, and the questionnaires were assessed with the strategy of psychometric questionnaire construction, validity, reliability, and acceptability. Results The authors scanned 131 articles yielded by our search strategy. Eleven articles were included in the study. Two questionnaires, IOWA Satisfaction with Anesthesia Scale and Evaluation du Vecu de I'Anesthesie Generale, fulfilled the criteria, but the latter was not developed specifically for ambulatory anesthesia, whereas Iowa Satisfaction with Anesthesia Scale was designed only for monitored anesthesia patients. Conclusions In a large number of trials, patient satisfaction has been evaluated using overall satisfaction or nonvalidated questionnaires. Only a few studies have developed questionnaires with rigorous psychometric methods to measure patient satisfaction with anesthesia care. At this time, there is still no valid or reliable questionnaire for measuring patient satisfaction in ambulatory anesthesia. Further study should be conducted to develop standardized instruments to measure this outcome.

Résumé :
Abstract Background CaPaBLE tests the feasibility and acceptability of assessing quality of life (QoL) using the patient-, or caregiver-generated index (PGI/CaGI) methodology in patients with HGG and their caregivers. Material and Methods CaPaBLE, (https://www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN45555598), followed patients and/ or their caregivers up to 6 months.

Résumé :
Worldwide health policies are trying to implement physical activity on prescription (PAP) at healthcare settings. However, there is not a proper methodology to analyze PHC organizational staff factors. This study aims to validate two questionnaires to assess the self-perception of nurses and general practitioners to implement PAP at primary healthcare (PHC) settings. The designed choice-modeling Google-form questionnaire was sent to 11 expert nurses and 11 expert sports medicine physicians. Experts evaluated each question on a 1–5 points Likert-type scale according to their expertise. Aiken’s V coefficient values ≥0.75 were used to validate separately each question using the Visual Basic-6.0 software. A total of 10 sports medicine physicians and 10 nurses with 28.4 ± 5.1 y and 16.3 ± 11.8 y of PAP experience, respectively, validated the questionnaire. One expert in each group was not considered for offering 3 ± SD answers in ≥2 questions respect to the mean of the rest of experts. Final Aiken’s V coefficient values were 0.89 (0.77–1.00) for the nurses’ questionnaire and 0.84 (0.77–0.95) for the physicians’ one. The questionnaires designed to assess the PAP self-perception of PHC nurses and physicians were validated. This methodology could be used to analyze PHC organizational staff factors in order to achieve an efficient PAP implementation in other PHC contexts.

Résumé :
Companies are conducting more and longer surveys than ever before. Massive questionnaires are pervasive in marketing practice. As an alternative to the heuristic methods that are currently used to split questionnaires, this study develops a methodology to design the split questionnaire in a way that minimizes information loss. Using estimates from a first wave or pilot study, the authors apply the modified Fedorov algorithm using the Kullback–Leibler distance as a design criterion to find the optimal splits. Their design criterion is based on a general mixed data model that accommodates continuous, rank-ordered, and discrete measurement scales. The optimal construction of the split questionnaire design is easy and fast. The authors use Markov chain Monte Carlo procedures to impute missing values that result from the design. They generate split questionnaire designs by selecting either entire blocks of questions (between-block design) or sets of questions in each block (within-block design). They compare the efficiency of split questionnaires generated with the proposed method with multiple matrix sampling designs, incomplete block designs, and a heuristic procedure, using synthetic and empirical Web survey data. The authors illustrate in a field study that as a result of reduced respondent burden, the quality of data using split questionnaire designs improves.

AbstractObjectiveTo outline key statistical considerations and detailed methodologies for the development and evaluation of a valid and reliable nutrition knowledge questionnaire.DesignLiterature on questionnaire development in a range of fields was reviewed and a set of evidence-based guidelines specific to the creation of a nutrition knowledge questionnaire have been developed. The recommendations describe key qualitative methods and statistical considerations, and include relevant examples from previous papers and existing nutrition knowledge questionnaires. Where details have been omitted for the sake of brevity, the reader has been directed to suitable references.ResultsWe recommend an eight-step methodology for nutrition knowledge questionnaire development as follows: (i) definition of the construct and development of a test plan; (ii) generation of the item pool; (iii) choice of the scoring system and response format; (iv) assessment of content validity; (v) assessment of face validity; (vi) purification of the scale using item analysis, including item characteristics, difficulty and discrimination; (vii) evaluation of the scale including its factor structure and internal reliability, or Rasch analysis, including assessment of dimensionality and internal reliability; and (viii) gathering of data to re-examine the questionnaire’s properties, assess temporal stability and confirm construct validity. Several of these methods have previously been overlooked.ConclusionsThe measurement of nutrition knowledge is an important consideration for individuals working in the nutrition field. Improved methods in the development of nutrition knowledge questionnaires, such as the use of factor analysis or Rasch analysis, will enable more confidence in reported measures of nutrition knowledge.

Résumé :
In Sweden, leisure time and outdoor activities were important parts of the 1930s welfare society. The aim of this study is to examine the usefulness of some different source categories in the Nordic Museum’s collections and to complement representations of 1930s ideals about health, leisure time and outdoor activities. The article is written within the scope of the Nordic Museum and Stockholm University research project Images and Stories of Everyday Life. With digitising as an overall purpose, the project focuses on two categories of source material in the museum collections—the responses to the museum’s questionnaires and the photograph archive of the Swedish photographer Gunnar Lundh. Methodologically, around 400 questionnaire responses and 2,000 contact sheets have been looked at, with the aim of finding relevant representations of people’s leisure time and outdoor life in the 1930s. A selected number of questionnaires are analysed, and regarding the photographs, four series are analysed and represented by a selected number of photos. Series of photos on Gunnar Lundh’s contact sheets are essential, as they add knowledge beyond the individual photo. The combination of sources used in the article supports that holidays and outdoor life were part of urban people’s lives, while for rural people it was not easily combined with living conditions in agriculture. These results are reflected in the museum’s source material as well as in official government reports, earlier studies and historical sources. Although there is quite a large difference between the source categories, this study shows that the museum material, including evaluation of sources, makes it possible to broaden the image of Swedish people’s outdoor activities in the 1930s. The bricolage research method indicates that combinations of sources enlarge the image of different groups’ relationships to outdoor life.

Résumé :
SummaryPreliminary results of an epidemiological study in the general population of a small town near Paris are presented. This study investigates the prevalence of depressive and anxiety states and the risk factors associated with these disorders. The study methodology is reported in detail, especially the instruments chosen (some sections of the DIS/CIDI, questionnaires on social support, life events and self-rating questionnaires). Anxiety and depressive disorders are frequent in this population: life-time prevalence of Panic Disorder in men amounted to 2.3% and in women 3.1%, Generalised Anxiety Disorder in men 5.4% and in women 13.4%, Major Depressive Episode in men 8.5% and in women 21.9%. Panic Disorder is assessed with regard to different definitions and criteria (DSM III, DSM III-R). A wide difference in results is found according to the criteria used. Specifically, when anticipatory anxiety is taken into account, this increases the frequency rate of Panic Disorder. A significant comorbidity is found between anxiety and depressive disorders.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to draw attention to questionnaires as a corporate touch point, and their relationship with corporate identity (CI). Design/methodology/approach Following observational research, the paper presents a review of published works, including journals, textbooks and industry papers that consider qualitative aspects of questionnaire design. Primary data was collected via existential phenomenological interviews to understand the experiences of employees who engage with questionnaires from external companies within the industrial business-to-business (B2B) industry. Findings A lack of practical advice around aesthetic appearance of questionnaires in both journal papers and research design textbooks is identified, suggesting limited awareness of visual aspects of questionnaire design, even for those with formal training. Through interviews, it is suggested that poor design is forgiven through the understanding of the practical nature of the document, the idea that CI is a performance that is unnecessary at particular points of the B2B relationship, and that a more powerful company need not spend time on CI if collecting data from a stakeholder that is perhaps perceived as less important than other stakeholders. The findings indicate that organisations should consider questionnaires as a vehicle to promote CI, and as stakeholders to consider the document in terms of their relationship with the issuing company. Research limitations/implications This study proposes that qualitative inquiry is required to further determine how questionnaires are understood as a corporate touch point by stakeholders. Originality/value This paper considers the relationship between questionnaire appearance and stakeholder perceptions in the context of CI.

Résumé :
BackgroundThis paper outlines a multi-method’ process for developing a satisfaction questionnaire (SQ) for completion by service users. Satisfaction is a mark of service quality. Both health and social care services are required to evidence this. Working collaboratively with those who use our services is essential for achieving transformation in healthcare.AimIn developing a SQ, the aim was to collaboratively identify key quality criteria of most importance to service users and carers.MethodIn the absence of a gold standard methodology for developing a SQ, we developed an iterative multimethod’ phased process. Phase 1 involved a focus group, attended by service users and carers (n = 20). Participants at the focus group developed a preliminary list of quality criteria. Phase 2 involved a review of existing feedback questionnaires to supplement our quality criteria, including the Friends & Family Test. Phase 3 aimed to build consensus to refine the criteria, using a process informed by the Delphi technique with participants from a service user forum. The final phase of refinement is now underway.ResultsPreliminary findings highlight the key quality indicators of a high-quality service, as defined by service users and carers.ConclusionIt is useful to adopt and develop an iterative multi-method’ approach involving co-production and consensus building in developing a valid and meaningful SQ.
