This paper is a qualitative descriptive study, which aims to analyze how the academic education concerning hand hygiene contributes to the pediatric patient safety. This research was developed in an university hospital in Southern Brazil, in the pediatric unit, during the period of August to December, 2012. Sixteen healthcare professionals participated (doctors, nurses and physical therapists). A semi-structured interview was used to gather information. Data was organized by the software QSR Nvivo and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The results allowed us to list two thematic categories: "Hand hygiene and healthcare professionals' academic education"; and "Hand hygiene and professional life". The first thematic category will be presented in this paper. It was identified that the academic education contributes in an ineffective way to the creation of a patient safety culture. According to the professionals, there are gaps during the educational process regarding hand hygiene. The topic is treated in an ineffective and not very significant way to the learning and adhesion of hand hygiene in the professional life. It is recommended that, for the internalization of the practice by future professionals, a transversal, continuous and systematical approach is adopted during the professional's training, evaluations concerning the hand hygiene are done throughout the academic life as well as healthcare professors bethink the topic.

New standards like checklists are introduced to establish so-called “connective professionalism,” but it is difficult to work with checklists in daily circumstances. Professionals might comply with standards, but they might also neglect or resist them. By linking the sociology of professions to routine theory, we develop a relational perspective on working with standards, which is sensitive to the actual usage of standards, not so much “by” but “in-between” professionals. We analysed whether and how checklists are part of daily professional routines. Our ethnographic data show that medical professionals pragmatically cope with checklists. They “tick boxes,” but also use standards to improve case treatment, depending on the nature of cases, time pressure, and team composition. Connections between professionals not so much result from standards, but are a prerequisite for using standards. Professionals themselves rather than checklists establish collaboration, but checklists might be important devices for using “connective potential.”Various exogenous developments force professions to organize collaboration. New standards, like checklists, are introduced to reconfigure work and organize so-called ‘connective professionalism’. Despite serious efforts, it has proven difficult to incorporate these standards in daily practice. Different perspectives on the reconfiguration of professional work explain noncompliance. While implementation science employs a solely instrumental perspective, Sociology of Professions literature employs a broader social perspective mostly focusing on maintaining professional power. By combining Sociology of Professions and Routine Theory, this paper provides an analytical perspective that embraces possibilities for change of routines. A critical case in surgical care is used to empirically show how a checklist (re)creates professional routines. Our ethnographic data show that rather than the result of active professional resistance, differences between checklists and routines emerge from pragmatic coping with checklists amidst high-paced circumstances. Though deviating from the formal rule, these might be meaningful action patterns.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the professional practice challenges in reaching the goals and objectives of the National Patient Safety Program (Programa Nacional de Segurança do Paciente). Method: qualitative case study, based on the Comprehensive Sociology, carried out with 31 professionals from the Patient Safety Center (Núcleo de Segurança do Paciente) and the nursing team, working in a teaching hospital. Data collection took place between May and December 2015 through interviews, observation and documentary analysis. The analysis proceeded according to the prerogatives of the Content Analysis. Results: three categories emerged: the prescribed reality; material resources and their impact on care; and human resources related to the reality. Final considerations: challenges to safe professional practice are caused by inadequate physical structure, insufficient physical and human resources, but mainly invade the transition from the prescriptive reality scope.

Ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in offshore operations is paramount to the success and sustainability of these projects. This paper explores the significant impact of professional engineering certifications on offshore industry standards and practices, specifically focusing on how certifications contribute to enhancing quality, safety, and efficiency. Professional engineering certifications validate the skills and expertise of individuals working in the offshore sector, providing assurance to stakeholders that industry standards are being met. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and case studies, this paper examines the role of certifications in maintaining quality assurance, ensuring safety protocols, and enhancing operational efficiency. Certified professionals play a crucial role in implementing and adhering to stringent quality standards throughout offshore projects, ultimately reducing the risk of costly errors and project delays. Moreover, certifications equip professionals with the necessary knowledge and training to identify and mitigate safety hazards, thereby minimizing the likelihood of accidents and environmental disasters. In addition to quality and safety considerations, certifications also contribute to improving efficiency in offshore operations. Certified professionals are equipped with the latest industry best practices and technologies, enabling them to streamline processes, optimize resource utilization, and deliver projects on time and within budget. While professional certifications are instrumental in raising industry standards and practices, challenges such as access to training, certification maintenance, and evolving regulatory requirements remain. Addressing these challenges and promoting the adoption of certification programs are essential steps towards further enhancing the quality, safety, and efficiency of offshore engineering operations. Overall, this paper underscores the critical role of professional engineering certifications in shaping the future of the offshore industry, providing a roadmap for stakeholders to leverage certifications effectively to achieve their operational objectives. Objective Globally, the degree of patient harm occurring in healthcare was first publicised in the 1990s. Although many factors affect patient safety, in the US the Institute of Medicine identified hospital organisational culture as one factor contributing to a reduction in errors. This led to the development of many tools for measuring the safety culture of hospital staff. The aim of the present study was to review the literature on patient safety culture in acute hospitals to identify: (1) how patient safety is viewed by health professionals; (2) whether patient safety culture is perceived differently at the hospital versus ward level; and (3) whether clinicians and managers place the same importance on patient safety. Methods Following a search of electronic databases using OneSearch and a manual search of grey literature, an integrative review method identified 11 articles as being suitable to meet the review’s aims. The search terms of patient safety culture, patient safety and safety climate were used. To ensure relevancy to current practice, the search was restricted to the period 2010–15. Results Hospital patient safety culture is not a shared vision, because health professional groups have different views. In the present study, 67% of articles examined found doctors to have a poorer perception of the patient safety culture than nurses and allied health professionals. All health professional groups reported a more positive view of their ward safety culture than that of the hospital safety culture. Furthermore, managers of the health professionals reported more positively on patient safety culture than bedside clinicians. Conclusion This review provides an international understanding of health professionals’ views of patient safety. From an Australian context, the review highlights the need for further investigation, because there is a lack of recent Australian literature in the acute hospital setting relating to patient safety culture. What is known about the topic? Globally, many research papers have reported upon the correlation between a positive patient safety culture and a reduction in healthcare errors. What does this paper add? The present integrative review highlights that regardless of the country of origin, there are differences in the way that a hospital patient safety culture is perceived among different health professional groups, particularly between managers and bedside clinicians. What are the implications for practitioners? Individual health professional groups, and managers and clinicians, have different views on the patient safety culture; therefore, training needs to involve everyone to create a shared vision for patient safety.

Objectives As a potentially preventable severe event, venous thromboembolism can lead to malpractice claims. We aim to identify characteristics of claimed events and to assess possible association between guidelines compliance and professional liability. Methods We analyzed every claim of alleged medical negligence following venous thromboembolism registered at the Catalan Council of Medical Colleges from 1986 to 2014. Results A total of 100 claims related to venous thromboembolism were identified. In 24 cases, out of 95 closed-claims, medical professional liability was the outcome. The specialty with more complaints was Orthopaedic Surgery. In 43 cases, venous thromboembolism occurred in low-risk patients with no prophylaxis prescribed. Professionals’ conduct followed the official guidelines in 73 cases but still 11 of them ended up in professional liability. Nevertheless, liability outcome was significantly associated with non-compliance of guidelines, as well as the absence of a prophylaxis ( p < 0.001). Conclusions Guidelines should be considered not only a patient safety measure but also a relevant issue towards determining the standard of care required in law. However, guidelines compliance does not qualify automatically as an affirmative defense in claims. It is individualized prophylaxis and protocols compliance that makes clinical practice safe and at the same time avoids medical professional liability.

ABSTRACT Endodontists belong to the category of specialist dentists who depend much on dental radiography. Starting from the stage of disease diagnosis, radiography is of much importance in different stages of endodontic therapy, and further on radiographic evaluation is a tool for assessment of endodontic treatment. There is a heavy dependency on dental radiography in some form or other in the speciality of endodontics. As is the case with any ionizing radiation, radiation hazard is a phenomenon that matters a lot to this group of dental professionals. There needs to be a change in our attitude toward radiation safety measures, as many of our professional colleagues are seen much not to be bothered about the cumulative outcomes of radiation hazard, which can create havoc in our professional and personal lives. This article outlines the potential hazards that can happen by routine radiographic utilization in endodontic setup and tries to highlight the measures that need to be taken to mitigate the negative effects. Traffic safety culture, recently this definition is very often heard at conference calls of heads of services. What does this concept imply, how is it interconnected with safety management and why do these areas of work relate to the main tasks of the Russian Railways holding in the field of traffic safety and operation of railway transport? The article discusses the causes of traffic safety violations, which are associated with the influence of the human factor, violation of labor discipline, and improper performance of official duties. The main objective of the study is to find approaches to raising the level of safety culture among railway workers. Most often, when solving a certain task, it is necessary to go beyond it and consider issues that at fi rst glance do not relate to the essence of the problem, but the more you delve into the study, you come to conclusions that show the connection between themselves sometimes in the most unexpected and unpredictable way. How to improve the traffic safety culture among the company’s employees? Is it possible to correct employees whose professional experience has been assessed not for one year, but for decades? Is it possible to change the thinking of an employee whose professional experience has been assessed not for one year, but for decades? In my opinion, an employee who has been violating for many years will no longer be able to perform his job duties properly. This is a “professional” defect that cannot be corrected, because most often it was taught this way during an internship in production. Most cases could have been avoided because minor violations combined with certain factors are fatal.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES: The project was designed to assess the level of professional commitment among Jordanian Registered Nurses and examine how professional commitment among nurses relates to patients' safety.BACKGROUND: Professional commitment has received a great deal of interest worldwide. Nurses constitute the largest group of healthcare professionals that spend a majority of their time at the bedside in direct patient care. Nurses have an important role in improving patient safety and providing quality of care.DESIGN: A descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational design was used to answer the research questions.METHODS: A convenience sampling of 180 nurses selected from three accredited hospitals (governmental, private and university-affiliated teaching hospitals) completed two questionnaires; Professional Commitment Questionnaire (PCQ) and a Patient Safety Scale. Descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient, independent sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA test were used in data analysis. RESULT: Nurses' professional commitment was significantly and positively correlated with patient safety. Registered nurses perceived that their level of commitment was medium (M=3.47; SD=1.58 of a 7 point scale), with the highest mean recorded for nurses working in governmental hospitals (M=3.88; SD=1.53). The level of perception of issues related to patient safety was slightly higher than the midpoint (M=5.94; SD=1.38 of a 9 point scale). Nurses' professional commitment was influenced by gender t (158 =-2.33; p =.02), nursing experience in current hospitals (r=- 0.193; p=0.01), current hospital sector (F=4.334, p=0.01), and monthly salary (F=12.327, p=0.000). Patient safety was influenced by nurses' educational level (F=3.306, p=0.03).CONCLUSION: This study provides a preliminary understanding of how professional commitment of registered nurses can enhance patient safety. Managerial support was deemed necessary to enhance nurses' professional commitment, which, in turn, improves healthcare outcomes.

Theme: Anatomy for patients’ safety and professional growth It is with great honor that I welcome you to our 2nd anatomy annual congress. This year’s theme is “Anatomy for Patients’ Safety and Professional Growth.” Understanding anatomy is crucial for patient safety and professional development as it forms the cornerstone of healthcare practice. For accurate diagnosis and treatment, a solid understanding of anatomy is necessary in all areas, including the physical examination of a patient, the interpretation of symptoms, the interpretation of radiological images, and the comprehension of pathological illnesses. Thus, it may be claimed that a good healthcare worker is one who can use anatomical knowledge to give his or her patients high-quality care. Patient safety is a concern in healthcare practice not just in Rwanda but globally, as it directly impacts the quality of care, patient outcomes, and public trust in healthcare. Rwanda is a low- and middle-income country with a developing healthcare infrastructure, and it is important that patient safety is a priority. This is why the 2nd Anatomy Congress of S-CAR offers the ideal setting for professionals to collaborate and share experiences, learn from specialists, embrace ongoing advancements in anatomy education, and advance patient safety and professional development in Rwanda and Africa. Our participation in this S-CAR congress is a testament to our commitment to the well-being of our patients and our passion for professional growth. We will all promise to uphold not only the anatomy profession in Rwanda but also to support patient safety and carry the torch for our professional advancement. The 2nd Anatomy Annual Congress program offers an interesting package for both professionals and students, with 39 presentations subdivided into six sessions (medical education, learning assessment, anatomical study, anatomical variations, surgical anatomy, neuroanatomy, and neuroscience). This conference will help appreciate the beauty of the anatomy sciences and its importance in patient safety and professional growth in Rwanda. The article is devoted to understanding the issue of occupational safety management in Ukrainian libraries from the point of view of social and psychological safety. The problems and trends of library safety management are revealed in the issues of regulatory and legal support in the library sphere. It is indicated that the socio-psychological aspect of labor safety management needs special attention, since there is a contradiction between the inconsistency of norms and standards of the professional library environment with the conditions for the functioning of libraries, on the one hand, and the need to improve the efficiency of staff, on the other. It is determined that currently labor protection is at the stage of significant transformations. Along with well-known forms and methods of management, new models and principles of security management are widely distributed. The concept of hygiene and safety management, based on internationally recognized standards and recommendations, replaces the formed traditional forms and methods of labor protection management in Ukraine. It is concluded that innovative activities in the field of social protection should be aimed at continuous improvement and development of a regulatory framework that promotes the identification and neutralization of negative factors of library labor. Priority areas of activity have been proposed that should be reflected in terms of measures to prevent, identify and neutralize the negative factors of library labor, to which: continuous improvement of working conditions, bringing them to indicators close to regulatory; reduction of professional risk to actually acceptable levels; The formation of corporate and behavioral culture in the teams, the principle is to work safely more importantly, than to work is profitable or productively different. It is concluded that changing the conditions of library work in the further development of the information society require special research and development of a set of relevant legal documents to create conditions for safe work in the library.

The established practice of holding a medical professional accountable when claims are received from patients and their legal representatives in the event of unfavorable treatment outcomes indicates that the guilt of a specialist in most cases is determined by his or her actions or inactions. The authors give arguments and discuss that, along with errors that occur directly to the medical professional, there are factors that influence the outcome of the treatment, including those caused by the characteristics of the patient himself, which cannot be foreseen and which generally remain unknown to the society.

Professional experiment courses are important to students’ understanding and recognition of professional knowledge as links to professional experiments. The University of Science and Technology Beijing’s “Macro-Safety” discipline integration approach to safety engineering was used to develop safety engineering experimental courses. Development methods were discussed. A research background in multiple dominant disciplines helped establish the cultivation mode for innovation in students majoring in safety engineering. We combined the traditional teaching mode with multi-disciplinary, innovative experimental teaching, which improved the students’ enthusiasm for studying safety engineering, enhanced their practicality and innovation, and laid a solid foundation for their comprehensive development. The research results of this paper can be used in metallurgy, materials, and other related majors.

Abstract This theoretical study discusses bioethics in the sense of safely promoting and ensuring the patients’ dignity, respectful of their decision making, following regulations and protocols that help fulfill this will and bring safety to the care team. The lack of clear and consensual legal regulations on how to elaborate an advance directive generates uncertainty among healthcare providers, patients and their families. Beyond legal standardization, professionals must also have full knowledge on the topic to correctly guide and inform their patients, thus guaranteeing this right. But ensuring the right to express one’s will is not enough—one must be assured that such whishes will be fulfilled. Further and broader discussions on this topic anchored on the Brazilian reality are needed.

Background and Objectives: Several factors can compromise patient safety, such as ineffective teamwork, failed organizational processes, and the physical and psychological overload of health professionals. Studies about associations between burn out and patient safety have shown different outcomes. Objective: To analyze the relationship between burnout and patient safety. Materials and Methods: A systematic review with a meta-analysis performed using PubMed and Web of Science databases during January 2018. Two searches were conducted with the following descriptors: (i) patient safety AND burnout professional safety AND organizational culture, and (ii) patient safety AND burnout professional safety AND safety management. Results: Twenty-one studies were analyzed, most of them demonstrating an association between the existence of burnout and the worsening of patient safety. High levels of burnout is more common among physicians and nurses, and it is associated with external factors such as: high workload, long journeys, and ineffective interpersonal relationships. Good patient safety practices are influenced by organized workflows that generate autonomy for health professionals. Through meta-analysis, we found a relationship between the development of burnout and patient safety actions with a probability of superiority of 66.4%. Conclusion: There is a relationship between high levels of burnout and worsening patient safety.

With a drastic increase in the frequency and intensity of fires in the capital, engineers and entrepreneurs saw fire hazards as business opportunities. Global trends that promoted patenting new technologies spurred entrepreneurs and professionals alike to transform the capital into an epicentre of innovation aimed at making the city safer. Their inventions marked the city with visible signs of technological change and reminded residents that fire was a real threat to urban life.

Reforming the system of educational institutions of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ukraine is aimed at forming the professional competence of a new generation of future fire safety and civil defense specialists using innovative training technologies capable of effectively performing assigned tasks. Currently, the problem of forming the modern content of departmental education, implementing effective innovative learning technologies and creating a favorable environment for mastering the latest professional competence in the training of future fire safety and civil protection specialists is being actualized. The most important task of the educational system today is the formation of a new approach in which the following needs are expressed: active cognitive activity of those who are taught, partnership relations between teachers and those who are taught, an individual approach to learning - revealing the cognitive potential of an individual through the use of reserves laid down by nature. The problem of formation of professional competence of future specialists (from the standpoint of its continuity) in any field is in the field of view of many sciences. Of particular importance today is the development of the professional and pedagogical competence of the teachers of departmental educational institutions, which train future fire safety and civil defense specialists with the introduction of innovative learning technologies. A modern teacher of a departmental educational institution needs flexibility and non-standard thinking, the ability to adapt to rapid changes in life, the ability to creatively approach the organization of the educational process and achieve high work results. An important condition for intellectual and professional improvement is the mastery of motivational, technological, methodical, psychological-pedagogical, intellectual and communicative competences. Participation in master classes and professional trainings contribute to increasing the level of professional and pedagogical competence; updating the content of advanced training and internship; improvement of methodical competence in the inter-course period; participation in competitions of professional skills; mastering information and telecommunication technologies. The article, based on a theoretical study, scientifically substantiates the need for the formation of professional competence in the application of innovative learning technologies in the preparation of future fire safety and civil defense specialists using innovative learning technologies.

Résumé :

Despite the numerous implications of non-compliance with safety practices in construction projects, there are still reports of a low level of compliance with safety rules on construction sites. The study seeks to investigate the awareness level on the implications of non-compliance with safety practices among professionals in construction projects. From the existing literature, two major types of implications namely; direct and indirect cost implications of non-compliance with safety rule were investigated. Questionnaires were used to elicit information from respondents. A hypothesis that examines the differences in the level of awareness on the implications of non-compliance with safety practices among construction professionals was postulated. Kruskal-Wallis test was used to test the hypothesis. The findings show that the awareness level on the implications of non-compliance with safety practice among each professional is high and that there are significant differences in the level of awareness on six implications of non-compliance with safety practices; ‘physical injury/fatality to persons’, ‘workmen’s compensation’, ‘liability insurance premiums, ‘low morale of supervisors and workers’, ‘costs of delay’ and ‘time of cost’. The study concludes that professionals are aware of the implications of non-compliance with safety practices and their professional background affects the awareness level of six of the implications of non-compliance with safety practices. The study contributes to knowledge by identifying the six implications of non-compliance with safety practices where disparity exists in the awareness level among construction professionals. In cases where disparity exists in the awareness level among professionals, construction firms should adopt group discussion as a means of sensitization to increase awareness levels.

Résumé :

Scientific approaches to the formation of digital technologies for managing the factors of influence on the anthropogenic risks of energy production in terms of reducing the rates of accidents and industrial injuries are outlined. On the basis of statistical material, using methods of mathematical approximation, the dependencies of injuries and errors of personnel on their professional experience were obtained. On the basis of the index method, indicators of the reliability of the professional activity of personnel in the operation of the main technological equipment of power facilities were determined. The index of professional success, which considers the professional experience of personnel, is taken as the basis for assessing their professional activity. A method for estimating this index is formed, statistical data on the influence of experience on accidents and injuries in the electric power industry are considered. The authors formulated and solved the problem of finding the numerical values of the index of professional success. The dependencies of the index of professional success on the professional experience of the personnel were obtained, confirmed by statistical data and (indirectly) by earlier studies in the nuclear power industry by scientists of the FBGU SSC FMBC named after. A. I. Burnazyan of the FMBA of Russia. The calculation of the index makes it possible to mathematically correctly solve a more general problem of assessing anthropogenic risks. Formal contradictions between the numerical values of work experience in a position and the number of injuries are considered, statistical data are presented that confirm the theoretical conclusions obtained. The presented classification of personnel errors allows for a deep analysis of their occurrence and management of the process of their prevention. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the influence of professional experience on the success of professional activity is proven and countable. It can be assessed by the proposed method for calculating the index of professional success of personnel, which can be mathematically correctly incorporated into the overall structure of anthropogenic risk assessment.

Based on the status quo of safety evaluation in China, the paper points out the issues which occur in China's safety evaluation by studying safety evaluation reports and the research results of safety evaluation institutions, and then carries out an analysis of reasons for these issues. This paper proposes that China should strengthen supervision on safety evaluation, improve the employment standards of professional safety evaluators, optimize the market environment of safety evaluation, strengthen education on professional safety evaluators and set up a special training course for professional safety evaluators in an effort to enhance the professional quality and sense of responsibility of professional safety evaluators and to improve the level of safety evaluation in China both internally and externally.

Résumé :

The study of individual characteristics of the patient safety culture was conducted in various Ukrainian health care facilities using the questionnaire of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ). The characteristics of the patient safety culture were analyzed by taking into account the length of service, membership of respondent to medical or nursing staff, and the profile of therapeutic or surgical activity. The essential professional qualities of patient safety specialists and the categories of persons who are the most suitable candidates for the training of patient safety specialists were defined. It was noted that training specialists to ensure patients safety, taking into account professionally essential qualities, becomes especially relevant in connection with the transition from the culture of blaming individuals for mistakes to the practice of a fair culture, in which mistakes are not considered as a personal oversight, but as an opportunity to improve the system and prevent future harm. It was found that the nursing staff rated patient safety on wards lower than in hospital. A greater risk of adverse event reporting was found for surgical workers and a reduced risk of adverse event reporting for workers with 21 years of experience or more compared to workers with five years of experience or less. Based on the conducted research, it was concluded that the most suitable candidates for training patient safety specialists would be surgeons with 5 years of experience, who are critical as for patient safety in their units and prone to disclose adverse events.

Objective: To analyze the importance of professional responsibility and patient safety during dental procedures performed at the dental school of the University of Cuenca. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out using a validated questionnaire based on the key dimensions of the SERVQUAL model to 50 patients between 18 and 65 years of age, who attend the undergraduate clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Cuenca during the period March 2023-August 2023, where questions aimed at finding out the management of professional responsibility and patient safety during dental care were addressed. Results: Results were obtained from 50 surveys; in which it was determined that patients are satisfied with the biosafety management offered by students during dental procedures. On the other hand, the patients expressed dissatisfaction with the technological advances used by the students in the different areas during dental care. Conclusion: It is recommended to improve the technological advances during dental procedures, since the patients were able to indicate that there is a deficiency in this area.

The goal of improving patient safety has led to a number of paradigms for directing improvement efforts. The main paradigms to date have focused on reducing injuries, reducing errors, or improving evidence based practice. In this paper a human factors engineering paradigm is proposed that focuses on designing systems to improve the performance of healthcare professionals and to reduce hazards. Both goals are necessary, but neither is sufficient to improve safety. We suggest that the road to patient and employee safety runs through the healthcare professional who delivers care. To that end, several arguments are provided to show that designing healthcare delivery systems to support healthcare professional performance and hazard reduction should yield significant patient safety benefits. The concepts of human performance and hazard reduction are explained.

Background: Despite leading in healthcare spending, the United States sees only marginal improvements in patient outcomes among developed nations. Assessing patient safety culture (PSC) through the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) provides insights into overall patient safety and attitudes toward medical errors. This study aims to examine PSC in U.S. hospitals across professional categories via a systematic review and meta-analysis of published literature. Methods: Embase, PubMed (Medline), Web of Science, Scopus, and AHRQ’s Bibliography were consulted for identifying studies. A total of 31 articles met the eligibility criteria for inclusion, which garnered 608,443 survey participants in a national population of hospital healthcare professionals. For each professional category of PSC, a fixed and random-effects meta-analysis was performed, and a subgroup analysis was also conducted to measure differences in perceptions of PSC based on type of healthcare professional. Results: The HSOPSC composite average across all the studies was 61.3% positive responsiveness, indicating a need for improvement in patient safety. “Teamwork within units” had the highest positive PSC perception while “nonpunitive response to error” and “handoffs and transitions” scored the lowest. Furthermore, healthcare trainees and physicians seemed to have overall worse perceptions of patient safety culture compared to other professional subgroups, indicating the potential impacts of inexperience and a culpability culture on patient safety and medical error in hospitals. Discussion: To strengthen weak aspects of patient safety culture, hospitals should implement interventions such as teamwork training and error-reporting systems, thereby enhancing patient safety measures and reducing medical errors.

The article is devoted to improving the quality of training on occupational safety and health in the context of national quarantine and distance learning. The need to integrate numerous, diverse studies related to the peculiarities of becoming a specialist, combining psychological and psychophysiological aspects of this problem and developing a holistic system of psychological support for all stages of becoming a specialist. It is shown that in ergatic systems specialists together with professional knowledge and skills must have special abilities, competencies, flexibility, dynamism, creativity in professional activities, independence in finding and assimilating new information and new professional experience, make adequate decisions in "non-standard" situations. in conditions of lack of time and have the skills of optimal interaction with other participants in the production process in joint professional activities in the team. It is noted that to obtain a sustainable learning outcome is possible only taking into account the psychophysiological characteristics of the student, his character defects and stereotypes of behavior in normal and extreme conditions. The method of psychological testing and analysis of the obtained results is offered. After passing all the proposed tests, the teacher receives a psychological portrait of each individual student and has the opportunity to adjust the curriculum and methodological approaches to ensure maximum mastery of theoretical material and practical skills of future professionals.

Continuing professional development (CPD) is an essential component of professional practice for registered health practitioners to maintain and enhance knowledge, skills and abilities. There are many topics that practitioners may pursue relevant to their practice environment, and, in recent years, providing culturally safe and respectful practice is an emerging area of need. Unfortunately, many health professionals, whilst willing to offer cultural safe healthcare, may be uncertain of how to enact that practice. The World Health Organisation recognises attainment of the highest possible standard of health as a basic human right, and cultural safety is increasingly becoming an expectation of health professionals. To address this need and the insufficiency of support in the literature, the authors have presented a discussion paper on various aspects of cultural safety and the underlying constructs, such as cultures, that support it. The discussion takes into account core constructs that signpost the path to cultural safety and recognises the role and accountability of all levels of the healthcare system, not merely the practitioner. Finally, we propose a model program for a cultural humility CPD activity incorporating pre-work, online modules, interactive workshop, reflection on professional practice and a post-workshop evaluation.

ABSTRACT Objective: To measure the response time of health professionals before sound alarm activation and the implications for patient safety. Method: This is a quantitative and observational research conducted in an Adult Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital. Three researchers conducted non-participant observations for seven hours. Data collection occurred simultaneously in 20 beds during the morning shift. When listening the alarm activation, the researchers turned on the stopwatches and recorded the motive, the response time and the professional conduct. During collection, the unit had 90% of beds occupied and teams were complete. Result: We verified that from the 103 equipment activated, 66.03% of alarms fatigued. Nursing was the professional category that most provided care (31.06%) and the multi-parameter monitor was the device that alarmed the most (66.09%). Conclusion: Results corroborate the absence or delay of the response of teams, suggesting that relevant alarms might have been underestimated, compromising patient safety.

The role of professional health care is very important to improve the quality of services provided and improve or ensure patient safety. The importance of patient safety is increasingly prioritized around the world and every day health care professionals face several challenges in providing safe care to patients. This study aims to analyze the application of patient safety goals in health care professionals at 3M Plus Tembilahan Hospital. The type of research is quantitative analysis using a cross sectional study approach. The research sample was carried out using the total sampling method, namely 201 respondents at 3M Plus Tembilahan Hospital. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of the study showed that there was a relationship of analysis of the implementation of patient safety goals in health care professionals at 3M Plus Tembilahan Hospital.

Résumé :

In the article, the relevance of the study of the problem of personal safety is revealed, and the essence of the conflictological approach to its understanding is considered. The difficulties that occur in defining the very concept and structure of human safety, are analyzed. A comparative analysis of the basic concept of “personal safety” and related definitions of “safe personality behavior”, “safe personality type” is given, and the role of everyday and professional socio-psychological competence is discussed. The need for a deep theoretical analysis is emphasized, including that for the purpose of salvation of applied problems of effective provision of personal safety. The theory of personal safety is considered as an integral part of social safety psychology. There is still a lot to do both in theoretical and applied terms for its complete design. Currently, there is an urgent need to develop professional competence in various areas of security, not only among professionals, but also among various groups of the population.
