Résumé :
The chapter reviews how EBIs are typically evaluated. Evaluation usually begins with small pilot studies that examine implementation processes and feasibility and gather input from community members on training and implementation needs. The next stages involve efficacy trials, such as randomized experiments to evaluate intervention impact and larger scale effectiveness and dissemination trials to understand how EBIs can be implemented at scale. This chapter describes how CTC has been evaluated following these stages. Early pilot studies examined its implementation procedures and feasibility, feedback from communities was used to improve the CTC system, and larger scale studies evaluated its impact on community rates of youth behavioral health problems. The research used to create valid and reliable measures of community processes is described, including the methods used to create the CTC Youth Survey that measures a comprehensive set of risk and protective factors and behavioral health problems across youth in a community.

Abstract Functional neurosurgery by example is a concise text designed to provide neurosurgeons in training and early career neurosurgeons a deeper dive into the nuances of functional neurosurgery through carefully selected case examples. The overall structure and format of this book follows the structure and format of the series, which includes bulleted questions, pearls, pivot points and complications. The discussions reflect the thought process behind the management choice(s) presented for each case as well as the alternative choices with their pros and cons. The cases chosen encompass the breadth of functional neurosurgery and constitute the vast majority of likely cases to be encountered during practice of functional neurosurgery.

Résumé :
Meaning-focused coping is important in cancer survivorship because it is strongly related to successful adjustment and psychological well-being after cancer diagnosis. This chapter provides background information on meaning-making processes in cancer survivors and describes a four-step adaptation process of meaning-centered group psychotherapy for cancer survivors (MCGP-CS). Step 1 was a focus group study on meaning-making issues in Dutch cancer survivors. In step 2, expert meetings on meaning-making in cancer survivorship were conducted. Step 3 comprised the adaptation of the MCGP manual, and step 4 was a pilot study to test the feasibility of the adapted manual. Finally, the results of a randomized controlled trial on the efficacy of MCGP-CS and a client satisfaction evaluation are provided, and some recommendations for future adaptations to implement MDCG-CS in clinical practice are proposed.

Résumé :
The world's largest demonstrator of a revolutionary energy system in desalination for drinking water production is in operation. MIDES uses Microbial Desalination Cells (MDC) in a pre-treatment step for reverse osmosis (RO), for simultaneous saline stream desalination and wastewater treatment. MDCs are based on bio-electro-chemical technology, in which biological wastewater treatment can be coupled to the desalination of a saline stream using ion exchange membranes without external energy input. MDCs simultaneously treat wastewater and perform desalination using the energy contained in the wastewater. In fact, an MDC can produce around 1.8 kWh of bioelectricity from the energy contained in 1 m3 of wastewater. Compared to traditional RO, more than 3 kWh/m3 of electrical energy is saved. With this novel technology, two low-quality water streams (saline stream, wastewater) are transformed into two high-quality streams (desalinated water, treated wastewater) suitable for further uses. An exhaustive scaling-up process was carried out in which all MIDES partners worked together on nanostructured electrodes, antifouling membranes, electrochemical reactor design and optimization, life cycle assessment, microbial electrochemistry and physiology expertise, and process engineering and control. The roadmap of the lab-MDC upscaling goes through the assembly of a pre-pilot MDC, towards the development of the demonstrator of the MDC technology (patented). Nominal desalination rate between 4-11 Lm-2h-1 is reached with a current efficiency of 40 %. After the scalability success, two MDC pilot plants were designed and constructed consisting of one stack of 15 MDC pilot units with a 0.4 m2 electrode area per unit. This book presents the information generated throughout the EU funded MIDES project and includes the latest developments related to desalination of sea water and brackish water by applying microbial desalination cells. Résumé :
The chapter summarizes the story’s conceptualization and contextualization. India was once the largest economy on earth. Contemporaneously, it accounts for a trivial portion of the world’s economy. Achieving higher growth is important, as India, one of the world’s largest countries, cannot remain marginalized. Per-capita growth enhancements lead to poverty declines. Understanding growth requires an understanding of capitalism dynamics. Growth is the outcome of capitalism, which is the process of capital organization and utilization. Efficiency is the pivot around which growth revolves, and I describe the comprehensive assessment of productive efficiency patterns, and its economic growth impact, for India’s industrial sector from 1950–51 to 2013–14. The nature of capitalism practiced leads to different organizational forms. I describe productive efficiency patterns assessment across different organizational forms comprising India’s economy. My analysis privileges the political economy context to be at the heart of forces driving India’s productive efficiency influencing policies.

Résumé :
Although entwined with other motivations, the primary objective of the Look East Policy was and remains economic. Indian policy makers felt the need to bridge the gap caused by China’s twelve years year head start in liberalizing its economy or risk being marginalized in Asia. The two countries choose, however, radically different strategies:, China becoming became in the process a massive exporter of manufactured goods while India while India specializedspecialized in high-skill service exports, alongside manufactures but failing failed to expand the latter as much as expected. Foreign direct investment played a key role in the strategies of both countries, leading to substantial differences in export output. Because it was meant to develop an export strategy, FDI gave China a decisive advantage in the region. In India, FDI essentially targeted the domestic market and its contribution to manufactured product exports remained limited. China rapidly emerged as the pivot of the Asian export platform, a position that also enhanced its political influence across Asia.

The decision may be for an individual (e.g. whether to ground a pilot because of a health problem), for the whole of a workforce (e.g. whether to immunize HCWs against smallpox), or at a societal level (e.g. whether to permit the use of a pesticide). Risk management is the process by which decisions of this sort are made, following an assessment of the risks and benefits associated with each option. Depending on the nature of the decision, the process of risk assessment and management may be more or less formalized....

Résumé :
Following on from Chapter 5, this chapter outlines the final three stages in the process of designing and delivering arts in health interventions. It provides a step-by-step guide for how to turn an idea into action and implement and evaluate interventions. It shows how to undertake an effective pilot project, design an evaluation that captures its impact as well a supporting its future development, assess its likelihood of success on a larger scale, draw up a case for support for stakeholders and funders, finetune the intervention to make it more efficient and economical, develop an ongoing audit process, create a manual of the intervention to enable its replication elsewhere, scope opportunities for expansion, and plan for continuous innovation to ensure it stays current and appealing for participants. These steps will provide the springboard for a promising intervention to be launched and scaled in a sustainable way.
