La présente étude visait à mieux connaître les liens que les hommes ayant des relations sexuelles avec d'autres hommes entretiennent avec leur environnement social. Les données ont été recueillies auprès d'un échantillon de 564 hommes à l'aide de trois stratégies : bars gais ; " boule de neige " et journaux gais. Alors que 22 % des répondants déclarent que leurs droits ont déjà été lésés parce qu'ils ont été identifiés comme homosexuels, 11 % affirment qu'ils ont déjà fait face à des réactions négatives sans pour autant avoir été lésés. De plus, la participation à des activités d'organismes augmente en fonction du niveau de scolarité. La presse écrite, la télévision et la radio sont très utilisées pour se tenir informé sur le sida. Il s'agit donc de moyens importants à l'aide desquels son peut rejoindre tous les hommes ayant des relations sexuelles avec d'autres hommes, particulièrement ceux qui ne s'identifient pas à la communauté gaie.

Résumé :
Cet article s’intéresse à la réception du terme queer par les journaux québécois, plus particulièrement entre 2010 et 2012. Il y est d’abord question d’une mise en contexte de son apparition aux États-Unis, puis d’une tentative de traduction par le mouvement jeunesse LGBT au début des années 2000. La proposition d’utiliser « allosexuel » comme terme parapluie pour la diversité sexuelle éliminait plusieurs des aspects politiques de la théorie américaine. Dans les journaux grand public du Québec et dans la presse gaie, le queer conserve une certaine ambigüité selon qu’on le trouve comme nom propre ou qu’on lui attribue des valeurs stylistiques, spatiales et identitaires. Il sert également de marqueur générationnel, comme on peut le voir dans le cas du concours Queer of the Year.

Malgré une amélioration de la tolérance, l'acceptation sociale des homosexuels reste problématique en particulier au sein de la famille. Par ailleurs, l'homosexualité implique des modes de vie particuliers. Ainsi, au cours de cette période de la vie, les jeunes homosexuels sont confrontés au double souci de l'insertion dans des cercles de relations tolérants et de la mise en place d'un mode de vie qui favorise l'épanouissement de leur orientation sexuelle. À cela s'ajoute actuellement un contexte épi- démiologique dramatique.: en raison d'une prévalence du virus du VIH très forte dans le groupe, un tel choix de vie contraint ces jeunes à faire face à un risque de santé grave dès le début de leur carrière sexuelle. En nous appuyant sur des études menées en population générale, nous tenterons de déterminer si les processus d'autonomisation des jeunes homosexuels sont similaires à ceux des autres jeunes et dans quelle mesure leur sexualité marginale influe sur leur trajectoire.

Based on analysis of press working characteristics, some of the main kinematics requirements for working mechanisms of servo mechanical presses were put forward: fast in empty stroke, slow and uniform in working stroke and big force gain. Crank link and knuckle-straight link are the most common working mechanisms in mechanical presses. To meet the requirement of servo mechanical presses, another mechanism, knuckle-triangle link, was designed. The kinematics simulations of the three mechanisms for a 1600kN press were conducted by dynamic software ADAMS. Knuckle-triangle link had the most uniform and lowest slide’s average velocity and biggest force gain within the working stroke. For the same nominal pressure of 1600kN, the required input torque of knuckle-triangle link was 9108Nm. In comparison with crank link and knuckle-straight link, the crank’s input torque was reduced by 84% and 76% respectively without considering the influence of friction and inertia. In conclusion, knuckle-triangle link mechanism is more suitable for large-tonnage servo presses.

Elastic moduli of both as-hot-pressed and oxygenated YBa2Cu3Ox were measured, under isostatic pressures up to 1 GPa, using a combination of strain gage and ultrasonic techniques. Pressurization of the as-hot-pressed samples caused no significant change in moduli; however, pressurization of the oxygenated sample produced a 5-fold increase in bulk modulus. The results show that the significant decreases in moduli between the as-hot-pressed and the oxygenated state were due to extensive microcracking, of an extremely fine nature, that occurred during the oxygenating sequence.

Nowadays, all PM part manufacturers are subjected to the huge pressure to reduce prices and minimize cost. Apart from the maximum utilization of the machines in multi-shift operation, the manufacturers have to select the optimum machinery in terms of pressing technology. Flat parts, for instance, are produced on mechanical high-speed presses with very high economic efficiency. Here high stroke rates that can be achieved are the focal point. Multi-level complicated components are produced on multiplaten presses providing hydraulic auxiliary movements. Both mechanical automatic presses with modular multiplaten die sets and hydraulic presses with closed-loop controlled movements, equipped with position sensors, are suitable for this application. The geometrical complexity, the requested dimensional tolerances and the density are of decisive influence of the machine to be selected. The sizing is process is carried out on machines providing optical part recognition and automatic part handling. For this wide variety of different applications DORST Technologies can offer customized plants to suit the requirements. To gain maximum economic efficiency, all machines – powder compacting presses or automatic sizing presses – are available with handling systems such as die set change systems, or linkage of the press with the furnace.

Difference in dot gain using various additives to the damping solution was investigated on two offset web presses. Dot gain was measured using a densitometer and calculated considering CIE L*a*b* coordinates. It was found that while using a non alcohol additive instead of the alcohol one, dot gain became smaller and printing stability was lower. Changes in dot gain depend on the ink that may vary in colours. The influence of changes in dot gain on the colour was determined. Besides, it was found that differences in colour were unacceptable in many cases.

Si plusieurs périodiques européens et américains, dont Arcadie, Gai Pied et The Advocate, ont fait l’objet d’études approfondies, la presse gaie québécoise, en revanche, a relativement peu suscité l’intérêt des chercheurs. Surtout, aucune étude d’ensemble n’a été publiée sur le sujet. Pourtant, il s’agit d’un corpus particulièrement foisonnant : depuis 1971, 144 périodiques gais ont été créés au Québec. La présente thèse entend donc combler une lacune en proposant une étude à la fois quantitative et qualitative de l’ensemble des périodiques gais de la province. Plus précisément, nous nous penchons sur les fonctions que ces périodiques ont occupées – et continuent d’occuper – au sein de la communauté gaie. Cette thèse se divise en deux parties. Dans la première, plus théorique, nous revenons dans un premier temps sur les fonctions du livre et de la presse à travers les époques et définissons les concepts qui sont au cœur de nos recherches. À ce chapitre théorique succède l’analyse quantitative des périodiques gais produits et diffusés au Québec depuis 1971. En somme, nous établissons un cadre théorique et méthodologique utile à l’étude de notre corpus. La deuxième partie de la thèse, la plus longue, regroupe les cinq chapitres suivants. Avant 1971, peu d’imprimés abordent l’homosexualité au Québec – et lorsque c’est le cas, c’est souvent (pour ne pas dire la plupart du temps) pour la contrôler, la condamner et la définir comme une forme de sexualité qui n’a pas sa place dans la société. Or, comme nous le montrons dans le chapitre III, des périodiques tels que les journaux jaunes et les physiques magazines, tout en véhiculant les stéréotypes les plus éculés concernant l’homosexualité, constituent également des sources d’information non négligeables et permettent aux lecteurs de s’identifier à des images, à des représentations qui ne visent pas nécessairement à stigmatiser les homosexuels. Le quatrième chapitre couvre les premiers périodiques gais publiés au Québec durant les années 1970. Des titres comme Le Tiers (1971-1972) et Omnibus (1971?-1975?), qui font l’objet d’études de cas plus fouillées, sont étroitement liés à l’essor de la communauté gaie dans la province et à l’affirmation de l’identité gaie au sein de l’espace public. Ce mouvement d’affirmation prend de l’ampleur durant la deuxième moitié de la décennie 1970, tandis qu’une vague de descentes et d’autres actes répressifs sévit dans plusieurs établissements gais de la métropole. Les cinquième et sixième chapitres de la thèse mettent en relief l’importance des périodiques gais dans des moments de crise. Ainsi, un titre comme Le Berdache est capital pour la reconnaissance sociale et juridique des gais dans la province : grâce à ce périodique, les collaborateurs dénoncent la répression multiforme ainsi que l’homophobie généralisée et revendiquent des droits pour les membres de leur communauté. Durant les années 1980 et 1990, alors que le sida décime une partie importante de la population gaie québécoise, Le Virulent (1986-1989?), un bulletin émis par le Comité Sida Aide Montréal (C-SAM), demeure un outil de premier choix, un mode d’action, pour sensibiliser et informer. Enfin, le septième et dernier chapitre de la thèse est consacré aux périodiques – et plus particulièrement aux magazines – gais publiés à partir du milieu des années 1980. Ces publications témoignent de l’évolution d’une communauté qui, autrefois stigmatisée et perçue comme une grave menace pour le maintien de l’orthodoxie sociale, est désormais de plus en plus reconnue, voire légitimée, et a acquis un certain pouvoir (sociopolitique, économique). Une telle évolution n’est pas sans conséquence sur les façons de produire, de distribuer et de diffuser les périodiques gais : les bulletins, tabloïdes et autres publications périodiques artisanales des années 1970 cèdent progressivement la place à des magazines luxueux, produits avec plus de ressources et davantage axés sur les modes de vie. Cette tendance, qu’on observe encore aujourd’hui dans le milieu de la presse gaie, est même devenue une sorte de norme.

The overwhelming consensus of the world's climate scientists is that we must rapidly reduce our greenhouse emissions if we are to avoid catastrophic and irreversible climate change. Yet the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which would carry tar sands oil that emits three to four times the carbon emissions of conventional gasoline across the U.S., is supported by a solid majority of Americans. This level of support for a project a proposal that would dramatically increase greenhouse gas emissions, pollute sensitive lands and water sources, and threaten the health and safety of communities along the way begs the question: what kind of information have Americans received about the pipeline? Relying on theoretical perspectives developed by scholars who examine power structures, ideology, and the political economy of the mass media, I analyze 177 national network and cable news broadcasts in order to determine what kind of information leading media sources provide to the public about the Keystone XL pipeline proposal and the context in which this information is presented. Content analysis of broadcast transcripts reveals that television news stations exhibit biased coverage that encourages viewers to support pipeline construction. Furthermore, television news stations marginalize environmental and social concerns and disproportionately rely on business and government sources for information. Finally, the dominant frame employed by the news media is informed by neoliberal ideology and offers no challenge to the preferences of corporate and government elites--including the continued dominance of the fossil fuel industry. This type of coverage affords viewers a very limited basis for understanding the environmental and ultimately social threats posed by Keystone XL.

The purpose of the research is to analyze contemporary versions of Chinese Stratagems texts and identify «instant character» of their elements that have semantically close interpretations in different cultures and civilizations, distanced from each other mentally, geographically and chronologically, that helps us to identify their archetypal nature. The research methodology is based on approaches, borrowed from James George Frazer’s works on social anthropology and Gilbert Durand’s instrument «Imaginer» that were joined within canvas of our research methodology with traditional methods of content and event comparative analysis. The scientific novelty of our article consists in an attempt to apply archetypal meta-theory and its instruments for creating concept of intellectual card game «Stratagems» that has passed probation during 2017 – 2019 in frameworks of seminars on economics, theory of international economic relations, management, psychology and applied linguistics in National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute». Conclusions. During all periods of human history, numerous issues close related with strategies of sustainable development on local, regional and global levels traditionally were dependent on evolution of spiritual-philosophic domain of mankind being. Contemporary wisdom (global intellectual capital) as balanced set of tactics (theory) and based on them behavioral patterns (praxis) we have defined as interpreted and reshaped eternal knowledge by different civilizations and cultures into variety of sources and forms like games, epic stories, sacral doctrines, legends, fables and folklore. The most interesting and controversial by nature among them are group of works on Chinese Stratagems and their application for different spheres of communication and socioeconomic interactions (policymaking, consumer’s behavior, diplomacy, constructing of quality management systems, administrative management and etc.). Today globalization, as socio-economic and geopolitical process, has faced all contemporary communities with dilemma of making right choice and appropriate strategy in frameworks of interpersonal or intercultural communication (business, bilateral talks, mediation of conflicts and etc.) and also in sphere of administrative management, international economic relations and quality assurance of decision-making process. Thus, our attention focused on mentioned above issues, has being attracted by works devoted to strategic decision-making, crisis management and philosophy of quality management.
Мета дослідження – проаналізувати сучасні версії текстів Китайських Стратагем та вивчити «універсальний характер» їх елементів, що мають семантично наближені інтерпретації у різних культурах та цивілізаціях, розділених між собою ментально, географічно й у часі, що допоможе нам виявити їх архетипну природу. Методологія дослідження базується на підходах, запозичених у роботах з соціальної антропології Джеймса Джорджа Фрейзера та інструмент «Імаджинер» Жильбера Дюрана, які були поєднані у канві методології нашого дослідження з традиційними методами порівняльного аналізу змісту та подій. Наукова новизна нашої статті міститься у спробі залучити архетипну метатеорію та її інструменти для створення концепції інтелектуальної гри «Стратагеми», яка пройшла апробацію протягом 2017 – 2019 років у рамках семінарів з економіки, теорії міжнародних економічних відносин, менеджменту, психології та прикладної лінгвістики у Національному технічному університеті «Харківський політехнічний інститут». Висновки. Протягом усіх періодів історії людства численні питання, тісно пов’язані з стратегіями сталого розвитку на локальному, регіональному та глобальному рівнях, традиційно знаходилися в залежності від еволюції духовно-філософського простору людського буття. Сучасна мудрість (глобальний інтелектуальний капітал) як збалансований набір тактик (теорія) та похідних від них поведінкових патернів (практика), нами визначено як першознання, інтепретоване та видозмінене багатьма цивілізаціями і культурами у різноманітні джерела й форми, такі як: ігри, епічні історії, сакральні доктрини, легенди, байки та фольклор. Найбільш цікавими і суперечливими за своєю природою серед них є група робіт з Китайських Стратагем та їх застосування у різних сферах спілкування й соціоекономічних взаємодій (політика, психологія споживача, дипломатія, створення систем менеджменту якості, адміністра-тивний менеджмент тощо). Нині глобалізація як соціально-економічний та геополітичний процес поставила сучасні спільноти перед дилемою вибору правильної стратегії у рамках міжособистісної чи міжкультурної комунікації (бізнес, перемовини, розв’язання конфліктів тощо), а також у галузі адміністративного менеджменту та забезпечення якості процесу прийняття рішень. Тому наша увага, зосереджена на згаданих вище питаннях, була привернута до робіт, присвячених прийняттю стратегічних рішень, кризовому менеджменту та філософії менеджменту якості.

The task of selecting the optimal strategy in the interval game with nature is considered; in particular, the situation when in the interactive dialogue of an analyst and decision support system there are cases of objective ambiguity caused, on the one hand, by interval uncertainty of data, and on the other hand – by the chosen model of the task formalization. The method for ranking quasioptimal alternatives in interval game models against nature is proposed, which enables comparing interval alternatives in cases of classical interval ambiguity. In this case, the function of the analyst preferences is used with respect to the values of the criterion that help determine the indicators for the quantitative ranking of alternatives. By selecting a specific type of the preference function, the researcher artificially converts the primary uncertainty of the data into the uncertainty of the preference function form, which nevertheless enables avoiding the ambiguity in the "fuzzy" areas of quasi-optimal alternatives.

Due to concerns over the psychological effects of playing video games, research into the role of morality and video games needed to be investigated. Some video games contain controversial, potentially morally questionable content, and numerous video games involve moral narratives or require the player to make moral decisions. Thus, both these features in video games show the importance of understanding the role of morality in this virtual space from a psychological perspective, to contribute to the gap in knowledge. Previous research suggests many inconsistencies in the findings; some research reported decisions in a video game were similar to moral decisions made in real-life, whereas other research found amorality in video games. The research contributed original knowledge, by addressing methodological issues, and examining the relationship with different aspects of morality and video game play. Phase 1 examined a variety of video game play factors and moral development. Three hundred and one participants from a Secondary school, Sixth form, and a University, aged between 11 and 27 years completed a questionnaire, which included a measure of moral development (the Sociomoral Reflection Measure) and questions regarding videogame play. The results suggest that different factors predicted low and high moral scores: moral narrative and number of genres played predicted higher moral scores, whereas years playing, average content rating, and playing Grand Theft Auto predicted lower moral scores. Surprisingly, moral development was suggested to transition between ages 12–13, which has not been reported in previous research. Phase 2 examined moral behaviour through the moral decisions of participants as they played a purpose-made game, which was designed and programmed specifically for this research. One hundred and fifteen University undergraduate participants participated. Decision-making was suggested to be slower than expected (not intuitive) which was influenced by the first encounter, suggesting participants were deliberating on their decisions. Overall the in-game instructions were suggested to be the strongest predictor for in-game decisions. Whereas real-life morality, previous game play and post-game measures (e.g. Positive and Negative Affect Schedule and Tangrams help/hurt task) did not significantly predict in-game moral decisions. The implications of the results, moral decision-making and using a purpose-made game was evaluated. In conclusion Phase 1 and 2 of the research undertook the question of the role of morality in video games from two different but complementary approaches; through examining long term moral reasoning and video game play and short term moral decisions in a purpose-made game. Both Phases of the research demonstrated the complex interaction that takes place between the player, the game and morality; in terms of both moral reasoning and decision making with video game play (i.e. genres) and the design of the game (i.e. in-game instructions). Further research is needed to understand the factors which affect moral engagement and disengagement within this interaction, as these can have important short term and long term effects.

This study is an in-depth investigation of game and excellence theory's linkage within the discipline of public relations during the period of market entry.The literature review defines and analyzes both game and excellence theory and the value of each within public relations. The literature also examines the impact of new businesses within U.S. economy and the importance of strategic decision making during the period of market entry. Decisions made during this time period, of which public relations professionals are often involved, can forecast the success or failure of a new business. The researcher argued that excellence theory's domination over the mindshare of public relations professionals has overshadowed other theories (such as game theory) which can be of value during the time of market entry.In order to quantify any educated opinions held by the researcher, a content analysis was conducted. The researcher identified specific game and excellence theory keywords to be examined and coded. The keywords were derived from a random sample of 384 public relations-based articles from 1997 to 2007 in Entrepreneur's online magazine, the leading magazine for entrepreneurs for over thirty years. The years of 1997 through 2007 were chosen due to a growth in new business births that have occurred over this time frame.The results of the content analysis showed that there were significantly more game theory keywords than excellence theory keywords referenced in Entrepreneur's online magazine in the aforementioned articles and timeframe. From this evidence, the researcher deducted that while excellence theory is still the paradigm for public relations professionals, game theory is being fused within public relations in some areas of the industry, specifically within new market entry strategy.

AbstractFor centuries, women in Vietnam had to respect the three obediences of Confucian morality. However, at the beginning of the twentieth century, a radical change took place: women went to school, wrote in the press, gave lectures, published novels and books, led associations, and campaigned for the status of women. In this chapter, we examine the life of a woman who lived during this time. Mrs. Huỳnh Thị Bảo Hòa, born in 1896, is known for her activities on behalf of women, as well as for her account of a trip to the mountains near Đà Nẵng, her essay on the kingdom of Champa and her novel telling the story of a Vietnamese man who was enlisted to fight in France during the First World War and who married a French woman. Through an examination of her biography, we will gain a better understanding of the life of an educated woman in Vietnam at the beginning of the twentieth century. We will then analyze her novel, The Western Beauty, published in Saigon in 1927 to gain a deeper sense of Mrs. Huỳnh Thị Bảo Hòa’s views on the place of Vietnamese women in colonial Vietnam.

With the rising demand for higher power densities and robust system control, the need for using press pack IGBT (PPI) devices in medium voltage (MV) applications is also increasing. So far PPI manufacturers have majorly focused on devices with paralleling of IGBTs/diodes inside a single housing, that drives thousands of Amperes and is used for high-power switching in various converter applications, like High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC), Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS), and MV drives. However, the absolute capabilities of a single chip are yet to be intensively explored for applications that do not require fast turn off, standard ±15 V gate voltage, and continuous switching, such as MV-DCbreaker. The idea of this work is to investigate the boundaries and robustness of a single chip at higher gate voltage for all possible conditions and eventually realize an application out of it. The major focus of the work is on determining the maximum potential of the 4.5 kV trench IGBT chip at a gate voltage as high as 40 V. After performing several robustness and stability tests, it can be claimed that a single chip can turn off at least 12 times the nominal current after conducting about 10 milliseconds, a requirement which is very important for the DC hybrid circuit breaker.

Tainter gates become dynamically stable at large gate openings, even though they usually exhibit intense dynamic instability at small gate openings. To assess which factors govern this stability at large openings, model investigations were conducted. The present study focuses on discharge characteristics and hydrodynamic pressures at large gate openings. The model tests were conducted using a 1/27-scaled 2-dimensional model of the Folsom Dam Tainter gate. The instantaneous flow-rate coefficient was obtained from LDV measurements of flow velocity accompanying periodic changes in the gate opening. Measurements of the hydrodynamic pressure associated with the flow-rate variation were also used to determine instantaneous flow-rate coefficients. Comparison of the directly measured instantaneous flow-rate coefficient form LDV measurements with that obtained from pressure measurements suggests that the flow field is less receptive to disturbances due to gate motion at larger gate openings. With increased gate openings, the fluctuating fluid force acting on the gate decreases, making the gate dynamically stable.
