Résumé :
AbstractBackground: Allergy is one of the most widespread diseases in this century. Allergy-causing materials used in dentistry are most frequently metals, such as nickel, cobalt, palladium, and amalgam, certain components of dental composites, denture resin materials, and even certain mouthwash components. The aim of this study was to assess dentists’ experience regarding allergies occurring in their practice among patients and among dental team members.Material and methods: We conducted a questionnaire-based study, in which 104 dentists responded. Results: Immediate allergic reactions were more often caused by different drugs, detergents, and anesthetics, while delayed allergic reactions were mostly caused by acrylates. Allergic reactions occurred more often among women than men, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.3).Conclusions: Our results suggest that allergies in dentistry appear mainly among adults, caused mostly by acrylates, metals, and different drugs. Immediate allergic reactions are often present, and mostly women are susceptible to allergies.

Résumé :
This research reports on the application of aspects of a model of evidence-based practice (EBP) which were used to review a behaviour management programme. Special education practitioners employed at the Aotearoa/New Zealand Ministry of Education (MOE) drew from MOE principles and practices, as well as their professional expertise as they reviewed and critiqued the Collaborative Problem Solving Model (CPS). This study reveals two critical aspects when applying an evidence-based practice (EBP) process: understanding of research, and using a structured process. The article discusses a range of benefits and reports on the compatibility of the behaviour management programme with MOE principles and practices.

Résumé :
This article extends debates of how organizing practices of reflexivity and collective mindfulness are encouraged and sustained for learning, critique and change. We present, in a practice-based study, a fourfold framework of anticipatory, deliberative, organizing and critically reflexive practices. Our empirical study illustrates how these multiple forms of reflexive practice can support and co-shape one another so that knowing what to do next emerges in the midst of practice. Our analysis demonstrates the value of going beyond the optical metaphor of reflection to that of critical reflexivity and the metaphor of diffraction. This approach extends understandings of reflective practice in ways that foreground entanglement, co-production and the relational qualities of practice. Diffraction encourages managers and practitioners to not only reflect on what has been done but to also map the effects of their practices and interventions. This orientation assists them to notice the impact of their actions and better understand the complexities of organized reflection-in-action.

Résumé :
OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to determine the benefits, facilitators, and barriers of implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) into organizational culture. BACKGROUND Implementing EBP leads to higher quality of patient outcome care, improved patient outcomes, and decreased healthcare costs. Nurse leader (NL) influence is essential for successful EBP implementation. METHODS Data were collected using a descriptive qualitative approach with focus group interviews using 2 open-ended questions. Participants included NL attendees at the 2022 Association of California Nurse Leaders Annual Program/Conference. Data were analyzed and themes were identified using Sandelowski's method. RESULTS Two overarching themes emerged: capacity (the amount something can produce) and capabilities (the power or ability to do something). CONCLUSIONS Healthcare organizations need to invest in building NLs' capacity to implement EBP and allocate resources to strengthen the organization's capabilities in supporting EBP.

Résumé :
We compared gastroenteritis cases that consulted a general practitioner (GP) with those who did not in a community-based study and also with those in a GP-based study. We aimed to identify factors associated with consultation, and with inclusion of cases by GPs, and secondly to study the effects on the frequency of detection of pathogens. Furthermore, we estimated the under-ascertainment by GPs. Both studies were performed in The Netherlands in the same population in an overlapping time-period. Overall, 5% of community cases consulted a GP. Cases who consulted suffered from more severe episodes than non-consulting cases. Inclusion of cases by GPs, instead of a study team, caused a selection of more severe cases with more chronic symptoms. When extrapolating data from GP-based studies, it should be taken into account that, in general practice, gastroenteritis due to bacteria and Giardia lamblia is a relatively large proportion of that in the community and gastroenteritis due to Norwalk-like viruses is a relatively small proportion. The incidence of gastroenteritis in general practices was estimated between 14 and 35 per 1000 person years.

Résumé :
Background: It is a well-known fact that exclusive breastfeeding benefits both mothers and their babies. The aim of this study is to assess the associated factors influencing exclusive breastfeeding of babies until 6 months of age. Methods: The study used data from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey. Overall, 1,542 women who had infants aged below 6 months were included in the study. Sociodemographic and maternal health service utilization factors were examined for association with exclusive breastfeeding, using logistic regression for a complex sample design. Results: The proportion of exclusive breastfeeding was 52.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.498–0.548). Parity, antenatal care visits, early initiation of breastfeeding, low-income households, and rural areas were significant factors associated with the increased likelihood of exclusive breastfeeding. However, working status (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.70; 95% CI, 0.57–0.86) and caesarean delivery or C-section (aOR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.57–0.99) were factors for a lower likelihood of exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: Working women are at risk of discontinuation of exclusive breastfeeding. Mothers who had a normal vaginal delivery and practiced early initiation of breastfeeding had a higher rate of exclusive breastfeeding. These findings have important implications for developing comprehensive guidance and resources for women regarding the importance of exclusive breastfeeding during the early postpartum period.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to explore how the employees and managers experienced skill-based pay (SBP) plans through the lens of the organizational justice perspective. The article investigates SBP plans and highlights the difficulties encountered in implementing them. SBP plans take a number of different forms that may diverge from the declared model. Design/methodology/approach – This study investigates the SBP plan implementation in situ. Following Yin’s case study design method, documents were collected, semi-structured interviews were conducted and observations were recorded in two different companies in France. Findings – The organizational justice concepts allow the authors to shed light on the mechanisms through which SBP implementation may lead to negative outcomes. First, the authors argue that injustice perceptions are a critical element in the SBP implementation. Second, they argue that the way SBP plans are implemented by front-line managers influence employee attitudes and behaviours. When employees consider that the decisions are established on the basis of criteria that lack legitimacy, they adopt withdrawal behaviour. Research limitations/implications – The majority of studies on SBP are largely atheoretical in nature. It is suggested that the organizational justice framework should be utilized to improve the authors’ understanding of what shapes the reaction of workers towards such plans. The authors consider that justice and trust are a particularly useful duo of lenses through which to examine the motivation of workers to be engaged in such plans. Practical implications – The implications for the practice of management surround the issue of unanticipated results of actions. It is not simply a question of designing the most appropriate SBP plans. The key issue is how they are actually implemented by front-line managers. Specifically, the findings highlight the pivotal role front-line managers play in building trust towards employees. Training in procedural justice should accompany SBP implementation. Originality/value – This paper highlights the complexity of implementation of SBP. By examining SBP implementation through the lenses of the organizational justice concepts, it sheds light on the under-theorized reactions to SBP implementation, and advances understanding of the mechanisms through which it affects employee attitudes and behaviours.

Résumé :
Whilst the practice placement is widely regarded as an integral component of social work qualifying courses there is less agreement about the most effective way of assessing student learning during this period on the course. This study explored students’ perceptions of a portfolio that was linked to the practice placement. The findings suggest the portfolio contributes positively to the learning process; however, this may be determined more by the separate parts of work than the compilation of an integrated or ‘holistic’ portfolio. If the portfolio is to be an effective assessment tool, it needs to complement fully students’ experience on placement rather than detract attention from it. Improvements in design will have to be mirrored by effective communication between tutors and practice teachers if the portfolio is to maximise practice learning.

A pre validated and structured questionnaire in English and Urdu language was created to avoid language barrier including personal detail, reasons and source and knowledge about over the counter drugs and Antibiotics. Sample of the study was randomly selected. Data was analyzed by software SPSS version 22. Results: Out of n=3388 respondents, the prevalence of self -medication practice of OTC drugs and antibiotics as self – medication practice in all of the respondents is 88% and 85.9% respectively. Knowledge of the respondents about the use of the antibiotics as well as side effects of antibiotics was 40.7% and 15.3% respectively. Headache, fever, cough and stomach problem were the minor ailments for which majority of OTC drugs and antibiotics used respectively. The commonly used OTC drugs and OPDEA were Paracetamol and Omeprazole. The commonly used antibiotics were Metronidazole, Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid and Ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: Government should make policies to train pharmacist in the community for antibiotics stewardship and standard treatment guidelines through educational workshops. Our future study will be on how to minimize antimicrobial resistance in the developing countries Conclusion: Government should make policies to train pharmacist in the community for antibiotics stewardship and standard treatment guidelines through educational workshops. Résumé :
Sigal, a second-grade girl in Israel, was observed for several months while practicing arithmetic with a structured and controlled computer-assisted instruction (CAI) system. Sigal was average in arithmetic in her class, enjoyed the computer practice, and believed that it helped her in arithmetic. However, observations showed that she consistently failed to solve problems on the computer that she could do successfully with paper and pencil. She was therefore given CAI practice well below her real arithmetic ability. She often oscillated among a few types of exercises, sometimes regressing rather than advancing upward in the hierarchical levels of practice. Several kinds of interventions did not bring about substantial improvement in her work with the computer. Continued observations in the following 2 years showed almost no change in her CAI-related behavior. This paper suggests the reasons for Sigal's problems with the CAI practice and draws implications for CAI design and implementation.

Résumé :
Purpose Nowadays health systems in most of the countries are trying to build their healthcare provision system based on scientific knowledge based evidence. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a crucial factor for quality improvement focusing on compliance with clinical standards. The purpose of this paper is to assess evidence-based knowledge and skills among healthcare providers in Qazvin hospitals in 2016. Design/methodology/approach This was a descriptive study conducted among 300 health professionals working in hospitals affiliated by Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in 2016. A self-administered questionnaire was used to gather data on health providers’ attitude, knowledge and skill regarding EBP. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regressions were used to analyze data using SPSS 16 software. Findings A total of 254 participants (84.6 percent) completed the questionnaire in which their attitude, knowledge and skill toward EBP were assessed at a low level. Study results indicated that among different occupational groups, physicians and those with greater awareness toward EBP terminology had a more positive attitude compared with others. Furthermore, a higher level of knowledge and skill toward EBP was associated with being a physician and having a positive attitude toward the issue. Practical implications Given the importance of EBP and due to insufficient knowledge of healthcare providers about the issue, it is necessary to hold appropriate educational courses to empower health workforce in implementing EBP principles. Originality/value The authors applied a self-administered questionnaire to assess health workforce knowledge and skills toward EBP. The results obtaining from the analysis not only highlights weaknesses related to service providers’ knowledge and capabilities to implement EBP but also reveals facilities required for realization of the subject in hospital settings.
