Cette recherche traite la question de l’infirmité en tant qu’objet historique et d’analyse. Le terrain et l’époque choisis représentent un banc d’essai afin d’analyser la longue sédimentation et le renouvellement de certains mécanismes fondés sur l’infériorisation de l’infirme. La biographie et les parcours sociaux de certains individus provenant de différents milieux sociaux constituent des instruments pour saisir quelques mécanismes parmi ceux qui m’ont conduit à formuler la notion de dette symbolique. Inspirée par la sociologie de P. Bourdieu et par son concept de violence symbolique, cette notion est utile pour saisir la longue histoire des lectures sociales et de l’imaginaire qui infériorisent l’infirme par un mécanisme de renversement des causes et des effets. Ce n’est pas le déficit corporel qui produit cette infériorisation, mais plutôt cette vision infériorisante qui lit le fait corporel en décrétant le statut d’infériorité de l’individu. Cette lecture, cherche et trouve, dans l’objectivité corporelle de l’infirme des appuis qui la justifient. Dans la deuxième partie, nous nous confrontons à certains mécanismes, entre pratiques et discours, qui nous mettent face au renouvellement de ces schémas de pensée et d’action. D’abord, un certain nombre de cas de dispenses pour irrégularités par défaut corporel à laquelle doit se soumettre le prêtre qui, à cause de son infirmité, devient indigne et irrégulier dans l’exercice de son ministère. La construction religieuse de l’infirmité est également analysée à partir de la médecine pastorale, discipline du cursus de formation des prêtres, ainsi que de l’élaboration théologique. Les silences qui entourent les individus rendus infirmes par les accidents à l’intérieur du système industriel, associés à l’opacité et à l’insuffisance du développement des dispositifs qui devraient fournir les premières formes de réparation, constituent, au cours de la période historique retenue, de nouvelles formes qui contribuent à l’infériorisation du statut de l’infirme. La troisième partie porte sur l’analyse de certaines pratiques discursives avec un fort pouvoir pour construire l’opinion publique et un imaginaire sur l’infirmité : les chroniques d’un quotidien et un corpus de plus de cents textes littéraires. Dans les conclusions, se pose à nouveau la question de la construction de l’objet de recherche au sein du champ d’études du handicap, un champ très articulé, très conflictuel et aussi très orienté par l’action et l’engagement.

Aspetto sinora poco conosciuto della politica religiosa promossa da Bonaparte, strettamente legato alle esigenze dettate dalla ricerca di consenso, l’introduzione del culto di San Napoleone costituisce un esempio significativo del tentativo compiuto dal regime francese di circondare la figura e il potere del sovrano di un alone sacralizzante. Il presente lavoro, condotto sulla base di un’abbondante ricerca d’archivio e attraverso l’analisi di molto materiale documentario sinora inedito, si propone di indagare in profondità la genesi e lo sviluppo di tale culto, ponendo l’accento sulle motivazioni che furono alla base della sua introduzione in età consolare, sulle strategie che furono adottate dal governo napoleonico ai fini della sua diffusione, nonché sulle reazioni che si verificarono presso gli ambienti della Curia romana a seguito dell’istituzione della festività religiosa ad esso legata.
The religious policy promoted by Bonaparte is a little known topic at the moment. Closely linked to the needs to find consensus, the introduction of the cult of St. Napoleon is a significant example of the attempt made by the French government to surround the figure and the ruler’s a sanctifying aura. This study, based on an extensive archival research and through a deep analysis of many unpublished documents, aims to investigate in depth the genesis and development of this cult, with an emphasis on the motivations that were at the base of its introduction in consular age, on strategies that were adopted by the Napoleonic government for its spread, as well as on the reactions that occurred in the the Roman Curia following imposition of religious festivities connected to it.

This bachelor's thesis examines three books in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The aim is to increase understanding for what Harry Potter could contribute in terms of morality in religious studies, and how the story about Harry Potter, as a popular literary phenomenon, can be helpful for this. Lawrence Kohlberg's theory of moral development is central to this essay. I have used an hermeneutic method for the analysis of the Harry Potter books. The result shows that the main character, Harry Potter, can be seen as kind of a role model when it comes to moral development. Pupils may benefit by reading this book series because it can open their eyes to life questions and moral values. Identity formation, loyalty and fellowship are issues that the reader will be able to recognize and relate to in the Harry Potter books. Therefore it is relevant to use the Harry Potter books in teaching of religion. Life questions and moral values are also stressed in the syllabus for religious studies in junior high school. Furthermore the character Harry Potter does follow the moral development theory developed by Kohlberg, though it seems like the various stages are not separated, but rather integrated with each other. Harry Potter changes both intellectually and emotionally according to the magical world of Hogwarts school of wizardry and witchcraft.

The books about Harry Potter have been read by people all over the world, but is there some-thing more to them than just the magical adventure novels they first appear to be? Many have discovered the multiple layers of understanding that the author J. K. Rowling has put in her famous books, and since I was curious about a few features in the story that reminded me of certain elements which can be found in the Bible, I decided to find out more. The following essay investigates which specific features in the books about Harry Potter that can be traced to which specific parts of the Bible. The main focus is the comparison between the character Harry Potter and Jesus Christ. I use a comparative analyzing method and secure my theory with quotes from both Harry Potter and the Bible. In the end, I found a wide range of similarities between the two characters, and in my discus-sion, I raised the question whether or not the likenesses were intentional by Rowling. I reached the conclusion that the authors intention is not as important as the reader’s interpreta-tion and what they can learn from it.

Other important aspects investigated are those concerning the nuns' relationships with the political power and the analysis of religious practices and cultural aspects. Lo studio affronta il problema storico religioso della ricostruzione e dell'analisi storicista delle feste regali in Egitto e nel Levante tra il IV e il III millennio a.C. Il tema verrà sviluppato partendo da una introduzione metodologica finalizzata a fornire una base strumentale solida per meglio comprendere l'argomento oggetto d'indagine. Una prima parte si focalizzerà sul rapporto tra l'uomo e l'ambiente, quindi tra cultura e natura, al fine di far comprendere le dinamiche e le strategie che stanno alla base del controllo e della manipolazione umana del mondo. Una seconda parte, più specifica, si concentrerà invece su come queste strategie culturali sono state impiegate all'interno della società, per rafforzare e legittimare il potere di chi sta al suo vertice, provando ad elaborare delle chiavi di lettura o schemi per chiarirne le dinamiche. Successivamente si prenderanno in esame due casi specifici e limitrofi: la festa Sed egiziana e la festa regale eblaita. Per l'Egitto si tenterà di ricostruire il rituale nel corso dei due millenni presi in esame, evidenziandone i mutamenti e gli aspetti critici, provando a smontare gli errori che si sono accumulati nel tempo, prevalentemente a causa di analisi e ricostruzioni non scientifiche e anacronistiche, e tentando inoltre di comprendere il significato simbolico delle singole azioni rituali. Per Ebla, analogamente, oltre a ricostruire il rituale sulla base dei testi a disposizione, si proverà a fornire una chiave di lettura della festa che prenda in esame, per quanto possibile, non solo le azioni rituali ma anche la maglia simbolica che fa loro da sfondo. Infine, per comprendere meglio alcuni aspetti o nodi critici dei rituali presi in esame, verrà proposta una analisi comparativa, svolta con un approccio storicista, evidenziando le analogie e le differenze delle due feste, concentrando l’attenzione soprattutto sul ruolo che hanno avuto l’Egitto e la festa Sed nella elaborazione del rituale della regalità di Ebla.

The relationship between fandoms and religion has become an increasingly popular topic to study within the field of the sociology of religion. In previous studies, there have been different views concerning whether or not fandoms should be regarded as religious from a functional perspective. This issue is especially interesting considering the decreasing popularity of traditional religion in some aspects.   The aim of this essay is to study how Harry Potter fandoms are described in previous studies. The study aims at discerning both the empirical data and how the data is interpreted. The material in this study consists of three previous studies about the communities centered around Harry Potter fandoms. These studies were analyzed in relation to Meredith B. McGuire´s (2002) concept “cultic stance” and Matt Hills (2002) concept “neoreligiosity”.  The studies were analyzed through a hermeneutical text analysis. According to the results, the Harry Potter fandoms examined in the previous studies somewhat relate to both abovementioned theories. The cultic stance was applicable when the fans described a desire for some kind of god or supernatural power. The neoreligiosity was applicable when the fans described their fandom with religious language. The previous studies in my material describe fandoms from different perspectives. The analyses of the previous studies which resulted in that the concepts fit differently on the different previous studies.

Den populära bokserien om den föräldralöse pojken och trollkarlen Harry Potter har väckt stor uppmärksamhet i medier och inom diverse forskningsfält. De religiösa budskap som serien sänder ut till läsare har bland annat blivit kritiserade av diverse kristna samfund i Sverige och det är denna kritik som ligger till grund för denna studie. Det övergripande syftet i denna studie är att, utifrån de motstridiga uppfattningarna angående Harry Potter bokserien, undersöka vilka symboliska uttryck för ondska och godhet som skildras i samband med de två karaktärerna Harry Potter och Lord Voldemort. Den textanalys som sedan utförs bygger på olika symbolteorier inom. Vidare är olika symboliska uttryck för begreppen ondska och godhet centrala för denna studies analys. Sammanfattningsvis går att säga att hos karaktären Harry Potter skildras både symboliska uttryck för ondska och godhet medan det hos karaktären Lord Voldemort finns starkt uttalade symboliska uttryck för ondska i boken Harry Potter och Halvblodsprinsen. Då det kommer till den kritik bokserien har mottagit från diverse kristna samfund så blandar författaren av dessa böcker symboler och deras innebörd i samband med många av karaktärerna och inte minst i skildringen av Harry Potter. Trots detta så framkommer det inte att detta sänder ut ett budskap om att typiskt onda egenskaper kan tolkas som goda utan, precis som i dessa böcker så är det varje människas egna val i avgörande situationer som definierar en människas karaktärsdrag.

The Harry Potter series has been a phenomenal publishing success for their author J. K. Rowling. This thesis argues for the use of these books as a worthwhile teaching asset, especially in the promotion of values in our schools. It particularly focuses on the use of these books for Values Education in the curriculum area of Religious Education. While the world continues to change and evolve there are some aspects of our societies that remain unchanged and the power of stories is one of these stable forces. This thesis looks at the importance of stories in teaching our youth about values, especially Christian values. It also provides research on how critics and youth have responded to the stories about Harry Potter through undertaking a review of critical comments and by actually asking young people what they feel about aspects of the novels. Comment is made on what Christian values can be found in the Harry Potter series and how they are shown through the choices characters make. This thesis also looks at how the power to choose is a fundamental basis of Christian religion and that through our choices we live out our humanity. Mention is made of Values Education in both State and Catholic schools and how, in recent years, we have seen increased moves by both Federal and State Governments to instigate Values Education programmes in Australian schools. This study also looked at how curriculum changes in Tasmania, at both State and Catholic levels, encourages the teaching of values through the use of resources that connect with our young people and teaching strategies that encourage higher-order thinking skills. An analysis is also made regarding the connection between the Harry Potter series and the hero journey motif. This connection provides some answers as to why the series is so popular and why our youth feel some connection to the characters in the books.Through research and analysis this thesis found that the Harry Potter series is popular with our youth and that they are connected to the characters in the books and the choices they make. This study also found that the series, through the characters and choices they make, provides itself as a valuable teaching tool because it is able to be used in both secular and Catholic schools regardless of attacks on the books by Christian groups. Studies undertaken indicated that the values presented in the books are compatible with our Australian societal values and that with the use of good teaching strategies the books can assist students in developing their higher-order thinking skills. The Harry Potter series can be used to assist youth in acquiring values that will assist them in their personal development and to help them become useful contributors to our modern world. Through the character of Harry Potter and his experiences students can learn more about themselves and the values they need to overcome those difficulties that they, like all of us, face in life.

La ricerca ha mostrato come per mezzo della riforma ospedaliera e della fondazione di un capitolo – l’organo d’autogestione dell’ospedale - il ceto decurionale milanese riuscì dopo la caduta della Repubblica Ambrosiana a perpetuare l’esistenza di una sorta di micro-repubblica (uno spazio cioè che garantiva la conservazione di un potere pluralistico). Con l’assunzione del patronato sul sontuoso edifico dell’Ospedale Maggiore il neo-duca Francesco Sforza invece, trasformò l’immagine della riforma ospedaliera in emblema del suo principato e in espressione della sua potenza. In questo senso allora il fenomeno della riforma ospedaliera - fenomeno molto precoce in Lombardia rispetto al resto dell’Europa centrale - trova a Milano una propria spiegazione nel contesto della contrapposizione politica di due autorità, che, attraverso il riferimento al concetto medievale della misericordia, si impegnavano a far trionfare un potere legittimo. Non vi sono attestazioni che permettono di inserire la riforma milanese nella tipologia dei riordinamenti sociali realizzatesi in Europa centrale negli anni venti e trenta del Cinquecento, che la moderna storiografia considera secondo i paradigmi del 'disciplinamento sociale' e della 'esclusione'.
The research has shown how, through hospital reform and the foundation of a chapter - the body for the self-government of the hospital – the local governing classes (ceto decurionale) of Milan succeeded in perpetuating the existence of a kind of micro-republic (a place where the conservation of a pluralistic proportion of power was guaranteed) after the fall of the Ambrosian Republic. On the other hand, by assuming patronage of the sumptuous building housing the Ospedale Maggiore, the new Duke, Francesco Sforza, transformed hospital reform into an emblem of his principality and a manifest sign of his power. In this sense, therefore, the phenomenon of hospital reform, which came about very early in Lombardy compared to the rest of central Europe, can be explained in terms of a political confrontation between two authorities which, using the medieval concept of misericordia as their landmark, endeavoured to make a certain legitimate seat of power committed themselves to the triumph of legitimate power. At the same time there is no evidence to warrant the Milanese reform being classified together with the type of social re-ordering carried out in central Europe in the fifteen-twenties and fifteen-thirties, which modern historical scholarship considers according to the paradigm of 'disciplinary action' and 'exclusion'.

This research aims to understand whether and how ritual manifests in ceramic objects dating to the Late Mississippian Period (ca. late 1200s A.D. to A.D. 1500) in southern Illinois. The study focuses on ritual phenomena that occurred at two village sites: Millstone Bluff (11Pp3) and Dillow’s Ridge (11U635). Millstone Bluff has been interpreted as a site of public ritual and unusual symbolic importance evidenced by its general location and topography, spatial organization, and distinctive rock art. Though Dillow’s Ridge was the locale for an inordinate level of lithic tool production, in other ways the site is understood to be typical of Mississippian villages for this region and time and unlikely to have accommodated large-scale public ritual activity. Through the analysis and comparison of ceramics from each site, this research seeks to identify the ceramic correlates of public ritual activity for this region and time. Statistical results suggest very little differentiation between the ceramic assemblages, suggesting the ritual activities that took place at either site may not have been substantially different from one another. Alternatively, the lack of differentiation may indicate ceramics do not play an active role in large-scale public ritual activity in this context.

Syftet med uppsatsen är undersöka hur ondskan framställs i Harry Potterfilmerna och att förbereda ett material som kan användas i religionsundervisning på grundskolans senare del och gymnasiet för att få till stånd en diskussion om ondska med elever.

För att uppfylla mitt syfte tänker jag svara på följande frågor:

1. Hur vet man som tittare vilka som är onda? Vad finns det för ondskemarkörer i filmerna? Vilka gärningar, dialoger, miljöer och färger visar vem som är ond?

2. Hur kan man använda Harry Potterfilmerna i religionsundervisning på grundskolans senare del och på gymnasiet?

I Harry Potterfilmerna har Voldemort valt den onda sidan för att få makt. Han blir en parasit som bryter ned och förstör det som är gott.

Flera motpoler finns i filmerna som till exempel på Hogwarts med elevhemmet Slytherin vars grundare var en ond man. Sorteringshatten delar in eleverna i olika elevhem när de kommer till Hogwarts första året och ser till att onda elever hamnar i Slytherin. I skogen, som är en ond plats, finns det goda varelser som kentaurer och enhörningar. Det finns lärare som är goda, som Professor McGonagall, och onda som Professor Snape.

Det är viktigt att man förklarar begreppet ondska så eleverna har klart för sig att det inte är något enkelt och enhetligt begrepp. Harry Potterfilmerna visualiserar flera olika grader av ondska på ett tydligt sätt genom att studera till exempel dialoger, attityder, miljöer och relationer.

Abstract The questions of this essay are:
    What is Richard Abanes’s criticism against occult elements in the Harry Potter books? How can Abanes’s – from a Christian point of view - religiously motivated criticism of the four first Harry Potter books be seen as an expression of moral panic and the construction of folk devils according to Cohen's scientific theory in popular culture? The questions are answered through a content analysis of Richard Abanes's book Harry Potter and the Bible: the menace behind the magick based on Stanley Cohen's theory of moral panic and folk devils. The aim is thus to develop a religious-scientific understanding of religiously motivated criticism of popular culture. The result of the essay shows that the biggest criticism Abanes has against the occult elements in the Harry Potter books is that the occult becomes glamorized, normalized and packaged in a box of fun, adventures and excitement. But according to critics like Abanes and the Christian Right, this is dangerous to children and young people as the occult pulls them away from God and closer to the devil. They can develop an interest in the occult and Wicca and later seek out occult sects and religious communities. According to Abanes, the Harry Potter books are dangerous as the author has mixed innocent imagination with real events, people and objects. Because of this, the boundaries are blurred and children can find it difficult to discern what is reality and fantasy. The moral panic of the Harry Potter books is created primarily by the Christian Right, as the concerns and fears of the actual threat the books issue are magnified. Whatever the truth of their statements, Abanes and other critics create fears within the Christian community so that Christian parents won’t allow their children to read the Harry Potter books, because they can contribute to the curiosity of the occult and an attraction to the devil, and can twist their morals. The deviant behaviors in the Harry Potter books that are not appreciated by the Christian Right are to lie, steal, and to be evil, something that Harry and other good characters do, therefore could Abanes's criticism contributes to the creation of moral panics and folk devils. Also, criticism against J. K. Rowling's character, morals and way of life has made her a folk devil.

Populärkultur uppstår inte i ett vakuum. Det är inte konstigt att västerländsk populärkultur hämtar inspiration från Bibeln och västerländsk kristen kultur. Bokserien om Harry Potter tycks vara ett sådant exempel. Jag är intresserad av det intertextuella mötet mellan Harry Potter-böckerna och Bibeln. Detta är ett relevant ämne att studera inom bibelvetenskapen då intertextualitet är tolkning i flera led och alltså påverkar vår läsning av såväl Bibeln som skönlitteratur. Som Lina Sjöberg visar kan intertextuella studier mellan Bibeln och skönlitteratur vara ett sätt att exegetiskt arbeta med mellanmänskliga aspekter av bibelberättelser som i sin tur plockats upp av skönlitteraturen genom intertextuella referenser.1 Utifrån bibelvetarens uppgift att tolka och förstå Bibelns texter blir intertextuella studier en framkomlig väg bland flera.2Harry Potter är en bästsäljande bokserie skriven av den brittiske författaren J.K. Rowling.3 Bokserien har filmatiserats och även filmerna är mycket populära. Det har skapats en fandom4 kring Harry Potter. Fansen kallas för ”Potterheads”5 och J.K. Rowling har skapat plattformen ”Pottermore” som är en nöjessite, nyhetssite och online-butik för allt Potter-relaterat.6 Det genomslag Harry Potter har gjort gör serien till ett intressant ämne för intertextuella studier. Många älskar bokserien och även de som inte läst böckerna känner ofta till handlingen i viss utsträckning.

The inquiry of this essay is to examine the expression of evil in fantasy literature with a special focus on J.K. Rowlings’ Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s stone and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but also C.S. Lewis’ Narnia the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Narnia the Last Battle. The purpose is to illuminate different depictions of evil in the books and reflect what these depictions can tell us about evil in our contemporary context. With this essay I want to show how world views are present in fantasy literature with a special focus on the portrayal of evil and its significance for the understanding of the narrative. I mean that the understanding and depiction of evil is a universal problem and an existential issue of relevance to world views.

This master thesis deals with questions concerning facts and fiction in the world of Beatrix Potter's rabbits. The purpose is first and foremost to find the connections between the pet rabbits, that she used as art models, and the rabbits that came to life through her "tales". The method has been to gather facts through biographic reading, and to analyse Beatrix Potter's rabbit tales, using tools developed by Swedish picture book experts. The rabbit characters are thoroughly examined and so are the settings where the tales take place. Matters concerning Beatrix Potter's painting technique and illustration style as well as her literary and pictorial inspirations are dealt with. Conclusions are, that the fictive rabbit characters have indeed a lot to do with the fact that Beatrix Potter was interested in natural history and studied animal behaviour and anatomy in detail. For a long time rabbits, both wild and domesticated, were her favourite study objects which provided conditions for her rabbit fantasies. Sprung from her first infant picture book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, there are many "side shows" associated with her name. Peter Rabbit is now immortal but in the hands of others than his creator.

A partir d'un mémoire du master sur l'étude du mobilier issu du sanctuaire de Beire-le-Châtel « Le Pâtis du Letto » ainsi que de nouvelles études comme celle du matériel provenant du fanum de Lux « Le Bois Giraud », l'ambition de cette thèse est d'appréhender la population qui le long de la voie Lyon - Trèves en pays lingon à l'époque romaine et fréquentent ses lieux de culte. Le mobilier retrouvé dans les sanctuaires a été confronté à celui issu des fouilles d’établissements ruraux, permettant de distinguer fréquentation locale et voyageurs de passage. Enfin, l’étude permet de mettre en avant le rôle des agglomérations – chef-lieu de cité et agglomérations secondaires – et des axes de communication dans la genèse des lieux de culte lingons, mais aussi la place tenue par les établissements ruraux de moyen et fort statut dans mise en place du paysage religieux
From a memory of a master on the study of the material from the sanctuary of Beire-le-Châtel "The Pâtis the Letto" as well as new studies such as material from the fanum Lux "Le Bois Giraud", the objective of this thesis is to understand the people who live along the Roman road Lyon - Trier on the civitates of the Lingoni et go on these places of worship. The material found in these sanctuaries was confronted with one of the rural settlements to distinguish local attendance and passing travelers. Finally, the study allows to emphasize the role of settlements - administrative center of the city and secondary towns - and communication routes in the genesis of Lingones’ places of worship but also the place held by the rural settlements of medium and high status in the implementation of the religious landscape

With an eye on the current social and political situation in Europe, and with regards to the so-termed refugee crisis, this study aims to map the discourse on assumed good and evil shared among Western cultures, as represented by Sweden, Germany and the United States.  The thesis takes its point of departure from essayistic reflections of the philosophical tradition and theological and religious analytical positions respectively. These are then followed by two investigative main chapters, designed along the lines of Norman Fairclough’s approach to critical discourse analysis (CDA). The first of these chapters studies the narratives of good and evil employed in the mainstream cinema of the past ten years in the mentioned countries. The second analysis is made up of three case studies, in turn looking at similar narratives in the campaigns of the two main competitors in the 2016 presidential race, a German protest movement against free trade agreements, and the everyday political communication of Swedish Facebook users. In a final chapter, findings from all four preceding chapters are brought together in an attempt to sketch an image of the congruences and discrepancies of narratives on good and evil in the overall discursive field. The thesis finds that the discursive field shared by the three investigated societies is largely homogenous, with certain imagery permeating all analysed orders of discourse. Many of the reoccurring images are however likely rooted in the human psyche and therefore less dependent on discourse practice. Furthermore, certain principles are agreed upon in theory while not reproduced in social practice. Themes assigned to either good or evil often seem to take on secondary functions next to assumed fixed identities of in- and out-groups.  Being a qualitative study, this thesis aims at giving an overview and delivering a base for further investigations rather than providing definitive answers.

Le fameux centre monumental de Pachacamac a fait l'objet d'investigations incessantes depuis la fin du siècle dernier, mais c'est surtout depuis les années '60 que l'intérêt des chercheurs s'est porté sur les pyramides à rampe. Les pyramides à rampe sont des édifices monumentaux construits en briques d'adobe et en tapia sur le même modèle architectonique général. On compte quatorze pyramides à rampes sur le site de Pachacamac, et d'autres dans la vallée du Lurin et les vallées voisines. La plupart des auteurs considèrent que ces constructions remontent à la période Intermédiaire récent (ca AD900-I470), le site portait alors le nom de la divinité principale de la Côte centrale, Ychsma, rebaptisé Pachacamac par les Incas à l'Horizon récent. Le consensus s'est fait autour du modèle explicatif de la "théorie des ambassades", que l'on peut résumer de la façon suivante :lors de la période Intermédiaire récent, une série de sanctuaires dédiés chacun à un membre de la parentèle mythique du dieu auraient été établis dans divers paliers écologiques. Ces sanctuaires auraient eu chacun leur correspondant, leur "ambassade", dans l'enceinte du centre cérémoniel. Le tribut récolté dans les "provinces" était ainsi concentré à Pachacamac-Ychsma, où il faisait l'objet d'échanges entre les différentes "ambassades".

Celles-ci, du point de vue architectural, comprendraient un certain nombre d'éléments structurels communs permettant de les ranger sous un même patron désigné sous l'appellation de "pyramide à rampe". Ce modèle aux bases discutables a été largement commenté et étoffé. En réalité, la révision des données disponibles indique que les hypothèses relatives au fonctionnement, au développement et à l'influence du site nécessitent une réévaluation. Celle-ci a constitué l'objectif principal des recherches menées par l'auteur sur le terrain durant quatre campagnes successives comprenant des prospections, des ramassages de surface, des relevés planimétriques et des fouilles à Pachacamac et dans l'ensemble du bas-Lurin.

Les résultats des fouilles indiquent qu'à l'Intermédiaire récent, ces structures étaient occupées par une élite restreinte, qui y donnait des banquets et présidait vraisemblablement à des cérémonies. L'ensemble des données convergent vers l'hypothèse selon laquelle les pyramides seraient avant tout des palais, occupées par des personnages de haut statut auxquels les structures servent de tombeau. Chaque pyramide correspondrait au palais d'un chef qui la construit, l'occupe de son vivant et y est enterré à sa mort. La pyramide en tant que siège du pouvoir serait alors abandonnée au profit d'une autre, construite par le successeur du chef défunt. Le modèle de succession dynastique fournit une explication plausible à la multiplication des pyramides à rampe dans le site de Pachacamac mais s'avère difficilement compatible avec la théorie des ambassades. Ainsi, la distribution des pyramides à rampe montre qu'un site spécifique entretenait des relations privilégiées avec Pachacamac dans le Lurin :Pampa de las Florès. Les autres sites comprenant des pyramides à rampe centrale dans le Lurin fonctionnaient par paires selon le même principe, mais à un niveau d'autorité inférieur. Certains sites d'élite sans pyramides à rampe faisaient également partie de la chefferie. Celle-ci englobait vraisemblablement le bas Lurin, une partie du moyen Lurin, le moyen Chilca (au sud du Lurin) et peut-être le bas Chilca.

L'hypothèse selon laquelle les pyramides constitueraient autant de palais successifs de chefs locaux permet d'expliquer aussi bien, sinon mieux, le fonctionnement du site. En effet, si l'on accepte de considérer l'idée que les seigneurs ychsma résidant à Pachacamac exerçaient leur autorité sur l'ensemble de la chefferie et recevaient une part des surplus de production locaux, il n'est pas nécessaire de faire appel à d'hypothétiques foules de fidèles "étrangers" (?) pour justifier la construction des diverses pyramides du site et l'entretien de leurs occupants. Les ressources humaines locales suffisaient largement à construire et à entretenir une pyramide par génération (voire même plusieurs pyramides dans l'éventualité d'une autorité bi-partite ou quadri-partite). Il ressort également des recherches que le développement spatial de Pachacamac suit un processus complexe que l'on ne saurait réduire à une simple croissance centrifuge ou à une addition des complexes pyramidaux les uns aux autres au cours du temps. Il est vraisemblable que ce processus a été dicté à la fois par des critères physiques, sociaux et conjoncturels. En ce qui concerne l'influence du site, Pachacamac présente davantage de points communs avec certains établissements et cultures de la Côte centrale-sud et centrale-nord qu'avec sa propre vallée haute, pourtant plus proche dans l'espace. Il est possible de situer la limite supérieure de l'influence du site vers 1000-1200m. Sous l'impulsion des peupIades issues des hautes terres à la fin de l'Intermédiaire récent et à l'Horizon récent, cette limite a sans doute reculé jusqu'en vallée moyenne, vers 450-700m. D'autre part les éléments archéologiques semblent confirmer les données ethnohistoriques évoquant l'existence de la seigneurie de Ychsma dans la zone Rimac-Lurin et l'appartenance des diverses chefferies qui la composaient à une même culture, dont la spécificité reste à définir.

Lors de la conquête inca de Pachacamac, le pouvoir local ychsma est relégué à un rôle subalterne. L'occupation inca se manifeste sous différentes modalités :les anciens palais, abandonnés depuis une période plus ou moins lointaine, sont utilisés comme campements et dépotoirs par les pèlerins. Les autorités incas ne réoccupent pas les pyramides à rampe mais construisent leurs propres structures administratives et résidentielles. La situation est différente dans le reste de la zone d'étude, où l'on observe que les structures locales d'autorité et de production continuent de fonctionner à l'Horizon récent, mais sous le contrôle plus ou moins direct de l'Empire. Tout cela sera radicalement bouleversé au XVIe s. lors de la colonisation du Pérou par les Espagnols.

La presente ricerca è incentrata sulla figura del tribuno della plebe, elemento cardine della ‘costituzione’ romana. In un sistema come quello romano caratterizzato tanto dall’elemento giuridico quanto da quello religioso, anche il tribuno della plebe dovette trovare un fondamento giuridico-religioso, la sacrosanctitas, che doveva costituire la risposta plebea agli auspici dei patrizi. I tribuni della plebe, infatti, in un sistema basato proprio sugli auspici ne erano privi, così è stata data ampia rilevanza proprio al problema relativo al rapporto intercorrente tra il tribuno della plebe, la sacrosanctitas e gli auspici. Il carattere della sacrosanctitas, fortemente collegato ai fatti svoltisi durante la prima secessione della plebe, costituì il fondamento di ogni potere tribunizio, tanto del potere negativo, estrinsecantesi nell’intercessio tribunicia, quanto del potere positivo, ossia il potere di proporre plebisciti. Scopo è, dunque, quello di proporre uno studio sinergico di questi due poteri, i quali contribuirono a delineare in maniera inscindibile la figura del tribuno della plebe. Quanto all’intercessiosi è tentato di fornire una panoramica completa, con particolare riferimento alla definizione degli atti avverso i quali la stessa fu mossa, degli effetti e dei limiti, attraverso l’ausilio di una raccolta sistematica di casi di intercessio rinvenibili nell’Ab Urbe condita di Tito Livio. Quanto al potere positivo, invece, si è posta particolare attenzione ai singoli plebisciti e al loro rapporto con le leggi comiziali.

William Louis Poteat (1856-1938) was a prominent educator, Progressive reformer, and leader in the Baptist denomination in North Carolina. He was the son of a slaveholder and grew up on a large tobacco plantation in Caswell County, North Carolina. From 1872 until 1877 he attended Wake Forest College, a Baptist school near Raleigh. He returned there in 1878 as a tutor and soon became a largely self-taught professor of biology. His introduction to modern science forced him to liberalize somewhat his conservative religious beliefs. He was a rarity in the South for openly teaching evolution beginning in the 1880s and was widely known among Southern Baptists for his advocacy of social Christianity. He led numerous campaigns for reform during the Progressive era on subjects including prohibition, public education, child labor, race relations, care of the insane, and eugenics. From 1905 until 1927 he served as president of Wake Forest College and guided the college based on a philosophy of Christian culture, a contrast to the zeal for practical training that simultaneously swept through the New South's state universities. In 1920 conservative Tarheel Baptists began to criticize Poteat for teaching his liberal (for the region) views on science and religion. He withstood assaults in 1920, 1922, and 1925 in a decade when a number of southern colleges dismissed professors for teaching evolution. This study advances historical understanding on several topics. It examines the intellectual compromises necessary for a social critic to avoid condemnation in the South in this period. Historians have identified Poteat as a foremost southern exemplar of social Christianity, but this biography reveals the individualistic, traditional roots of his quest for Progressive social reform, emphasizing the lack of a social gospel in the South. Analyzing Poteat's philosophy of education is a first step toward interpreting the history of denominational higher education in the South in the early twentieth century. Further, regarding the history of science in the postbellum South, Poteat's efforts toward original research indicate that he sought professional development but faced many obstacles such as a lack of resources and colleagues as well as his own commitment to broad liberal learning. This study also reinterprets the evolution controversy of the twenties by placing the religious conservatives who attacked Poteat within the context of a democratic opposition to Progressive-era bureaucratization, rather than regarding them only as irrational zealots.

The focus of fighting tyranny and the justifications of the consecutive wars in fantasy literature for children and young adults play a noteworthy role in the intertwinement of literature and its educational potential. This genre is filled with numerous images of violence, in particular different scenarios of war and its justifications. In the books war constitutes the final battle between good and evil, and thus manifests the protagonists’ ultimate moral decisions between these two forces. The following books constitute the corpus: C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia (1950-56), Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising Sequence (1965-77), Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials (1995-2000), J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series (1997-2007), Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle (2002-11), Amanda Hemingway’s Sangreal Trilogy (2005-07), and P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast’s House of Night novels (2007-2014). Although not all the books feature wars, all display justifications for war and the imperative to fight tyranny. Located within an intersection of diverse critical theories, my thesis engages literary texts in order to reflect on their capacity to negotiate, challenge, subvert, and perpetuate values and power structures. Motif analysis forms the centre of this analysis. I deploy a varied approach to literary analysis, relying upon literary and cultural theories (especially theories of ideology) to understand the realizations of the different motifs. Through issues of character construction, (political) authority, religion, and the construction of difference, the reader learns much about the culture and values of the respective world. Furthermore, this analysis invites the reader to find parallels between the fabricated world and the real world, and thus transfer what s/he has learned from the texts his/her own world. Engaging in such a reading ensures the drawing of direct connections between the reality constructed in the books on the one hand, and politics, the construction of difference, religion, and just war theory in the reader’s world on the other. The content analysis leads to broader cultural messages, which comprise assumptions about gender, power, ethnicity, religion, and morality. This methodology emphasizes the relevance as well as the complexity of the books and their educative potential, and facilitates the analysis of the books as tools for the defence and perpetuation of Western values and culture.

La ricerca, pur nel riferimento consapevole alla consolidata letteratura ormai classica sull'argomento, ha tra i propri riferimenti filosofici specificatamente la teoria del discorso di Michel Foucault, con la sua metodologia dell’analisi discorsiva, e segue un approccio transdiscipli¬nare fra scienze culturali e filosofia. Essa ha come punto di partenza, come caso di studio, la rappresentazione mediale del politico e statista democristiano Aldo Moro quale martire di stato durante e dopo il suo assassinio per opera delle Brigate Rosse nel 1978. La ricerca si sviluppa sulla scorta dell’ipotesi di una connessione fra procedure di legittimazione dell’autorità politica e delle strutture di potere e l’emergere della figura del martire di Stato. Le rappresentazioni martirologiche sono considerate pratiche discorsive performanti, attraverso le quali la morte di Moro viene ad assumere il significato di un martirio per lo Stato, la Repubblica Italiana e i valori democratici. L’ipotesi di lavoro è che, attraverso l’allocazione dello statuto di martire, la morte di Moro acquisisca il significato di un atto (volontario) di testimonianza della verità assoluta e trascendentale dei diritti umani, garantiti dalla costituzione (in particolare articolo 2 della Costituzione Italiana), così come della necessità dello Stato come garante di tali diritti. Attraverso questa significazione, la figura di Moro assurge inoltre a corpo simbolico dello Stato-nazione, legittimando lo stesso e fungendo da simbolo d’identificazione collettiva con la nazione. Si tratta qui di mettere in luce il rapporto intrinseco fra la figura del martire e una narrazione mitologica dello Stato, dove mito sta a indicare un «assolutismo del reale» (Absolutismus der Wirklichkeit). La ricerca vuole altresì mettere in luce la dimensione strumentale delle rappresentazioni martirologiche di Aldo Moro, le quali hanno mantenuto e tuttora mantengono un’efficacia performativa nonostante il chiaro ed evidente rifiuto, espresso da Moro stesso, di essere sacrificato «in nome di un astratto principio di legalità.» La ricerca si propone di dimostrare la valenza di tale ipotesi di lavoro attraverso l’analisi dell’apparizione e diffusione delle rappresentazioni martirologiche di Aldo Moro in forme mediali differenti nell’intervallo temporale di quattro decenni. Il corpus delle fonti preso in esame include: articoli di giornali e riviste, i documenti prodotti da Moro e della Brigate Rosse durante i 55 giorni di sequestro, trasmissioni televisive (documentari e reportage), opere letterarie e cinematografiche. La teoria discorsiva e l’analisi archeologico-genealogica sviluppate da Michel Foucault fungono da base teorico-metodologica del lavoro. Il taglio transdisciplinare dell’indagine rende necessaria la distinzione di due diversi piani di ricerca. In primo luogo, ci si pone come obiettivo di individuare e analizzare le diverse rappresentazioni come elementi di una formazione discorsiva il cui tema comune è la morte di Aldo Moro. Si tratta di operare una ricognizione, attraverso il lavoro empirico, dei modi di rappresentare l’uccisione di Aldo Moro e di individuare le regole che determinano ciò che può essere detto e mostrato a tale riguardo. In secondo luogo, a partire da qui, ci si propone di fare un’analisi critica dell’uso e della funzione del linguaggio e della simbologia di matrice religiosa all’interno della forma¬zione discorsiva presa in esame. L'obiettivo è di mettere così in luce non solo il dispositivo di legittimazione politica che presiede alla costruzione della figura del martire, ma anche la sua polivalenza.
