Résumé :
The analysis of modern methods and technologies used for solving the problems of creating and maintaining distributed databases with a multi-variant storage was carried out. Distributed databases with a single mechanism for accessing multi-variate data are singled out. The use of scalability mechanisms in the direction of horizontal scaling (in which a certain number of servers are increased within one system) is considered. The justification for the use of the Brewer'stheorem is given, in relation to restrictions and compromise solutions regard-ing properties: consistency, availability, partition tolerance. In relation to this theory, a formalization of the definition of prop-erties for distributed multimodel databases is presented. The extension to the Brewer'stheorem, which requires a trade-off between delays and consistency when applying a replication, and the principles for basic availability and eventual consistency are taken into account. The ways to create and support a highly loaded e-commerce system with support for distributed databases with multi-variate persistence are provided in the article. Examplesof possible architectural solutions for organizing access in such a system using a mix of relational and NoSQL (such as document, key-value, graph and column storage) are given. Such archi-tectural solution as distributed multi-model DBMS with a single access mechanism is proposed to overcome the problems of accessing databases with multi-variant saving from business logic. The shortcomings for such solution’s modern implementa-tions and ways of its improvement are shown. In particular, it is a support for all known data models and dynamic access to data loaded in one model in the format of another model. This work provides an opportunity to obtain and analyze experimental data at the next stages for the study of distributed multi-model dynamic databases using loading effects to obtain quantitative and qualitative characteristics of basic availability and partition tolerance for a fixed parameter of the eventual consistency for multimodel DBMS with a single access mechanism.

Résumé :
Using different programming languages when software advancement is a familiar method in current software advancement. Nevertheless, using various languages that can hinder developer capacity is not widely known. This research simulated an unplanned controlled study examining the adoption of various languages in the situation of a directory programming task. Participants in this study were given programming tasks written in Java and one of three SQL-like embedded languages. Simple “SQL” over authority, “Java” program only, and a more Java-like hybrid embedded language. Furthermore, to transcribe the responses to the online quest and the participators' “task” solutions, the participators' eye movements were also recorded with an eye tracker. “Eye Tracker” or in this study call as “Eye-Trc” is the methodology of the study of software development that has developed nowadays and grants more in-depth info about how developers accomplish programming tasks. This Eye-Trc method is used as a data collection method in this study. Eye-Trc data was get by thirty-one participators (university background and Industrial Background) for different programming tasks. To analyze the impact of inter-group inconstant and professional experience and in-group “task” variables on the dependent variable Time in completion, this study used a mixed model ANOVA. The outcome of this study indicates that an important impact on productivity was not found, this is different from the initial research because of the language used. However, the same effect was found from the participators' expertise in programming activity indicating that more competent programmers were easy to full fill “polyglot programming tasks” more efficiently. In addition, it was raised that participators viewed the specimen code with the same proportion (time) for bringing “task” reckless of skills or language alternative provided. dominant-stage exploration management also remains mostly consistent over the experiences or language alternatives. Overall, it can be concluded that the programming stage of the linguist doesn’t have an important impact. The top-stage strategies that participators used came to be identical reckless of the language alternative presented to them. As a suggestion for future research, the impact of various characteristics of polyglot programming languages should be studied in depth for the conclusions reached to remain correct across various polyglot programming contexts.

Résumé :
Evidence recently unearthed in documentary sources (such as voyage accounts and Hawaiian-language newspapers) has failed to support the theory that the predominant plantation language and lingua franca of Hawaii's polyglot population in the 19th century was an English-lexifier pidgin. Available evidence actually indicates that a pidginized variety of Hawaiian (which began to develop almost immediately after first contact) formed the original plantation language, and began to be displaced by pidgin English only in the 1880s and 1890s. This Hawaiian-lexifier pidgin also served as a general communicative medium in competition with pidgin English outside the plantation communities. Its prevalence may explain the slow development of pidgin English in Hawaii and late creolization.

Résumé :
Transcription factor gene ZFHX3 is one of the candidate genes involved in stroke development. The ZFHX3 protein contains oligopeptides encoded by trinucleotide repeats (TNRs). TNR variability is considered to be one of the causes of the disease, but their biological function has not yet been established. We assume that TNRs are the binding sites of miRNA to mRNA and are involved in regulation of ZFHX3 gene expression. The characteristics of miRNA–mRNA interaction were determined using MirTarget software. It has been shown that the first TNR in mRNA of the human ZFHX3 gene consists of the seven consecutive miR-12-32603-3p binding encoding polyGlu. The ZFHX3 protein of human polyGlu contains 30 Glu. In the orthologous proteins of 36 animal species the length of polyGlu varied from 27 Glu to 33 Glu. Negatively charged polyGlu of the ZFHX3 transcription factor probably interacted with positive DNA-binding proteins. The following mRNA region of the ZFHX3 gene contained the binding sites for miR-17-39416-3p, miR-5-15733-3p, miR-9-20317-3 encoding polyAla by 15 Ala lengths. In the 33 ZFHX3 orthologous proteins polyAla had the same length. The mRNA region of the human ZFHX3 gene with binding polysite of miR-1322-3p encoded polyGln consisting of 19 Gln. In the 41 orthologs of the ZFHX3 protein the length of polyGln varied from seven Gln to 23 Gln. The binding sites of miR-2-6184-3p, miR-5-14114-5p and miR-19-43437-5p were located with overlapping nucleotides sequences, and encode polyPro. In ZFHX3 human polyPro consisted of 12 Pro. In the orthologs, polyPro contained from 10 Pro to 14 Pro. The binding sites of miR-17-39416-3p, miR-9-20317-3p, miR-1-1819-3p, miR-5-15733-3p, miR-6-17815-3p, miR-18-39953-5p, miR-26862-5p, miR-1260b and miR-X-48174-3p in human ZFHX3 encoded polyGly by 22 Gly length. In the 28 orthologs of ZFHX3 the length of polyGly decreased to 11 Gly. The TNR regions could simultaneously bind several miRNAs, which increased the dependence of gene expression on miRNA. The oligopeptides encoded by the binding polysites of miRNA in mRNA in the orthologous ZFHX3 proteins were flanked by conserved oligopeptides.

Wells, Stephanie Alice. « Vocabulary development in a grade 7 class using dictionary skills : an action research project ». Thesis, Rhodes University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1003708.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
As I was involved as a voluntary, part-time teacher in a local, semi-rural school in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, I became increasingly aware of the learners' lack of English literacy. I therefore decided to do a practical research on vocabulary development, focusing on dictionary skills. In this thesis I describe how I implemented a vocabulary development programme as an Action Research project. My research group was a grade 7 class of English First Additional Language learners who had minimal exposure to English at school and in their communities. The class was a mixture of Afrikaans and isiXhosa home language speakers and the medium of instruction was Afrikaans. The school served a low-income community and was poorly resourced. As dictionary skills is a requirement of the national curriculum, I used 10 time-tabled lessons over a 5 week period to introduce the learners to dictionaries. My data sources were a journal detailing my reflections on each lesson; a video-recording of the lessons; small group interviews after each lesson which were audio-recorded; tasksheets on the work covered in class and questionnaires asking the learners for written responses to the lessons. The class teacher who filmed the lessons was also asked for feedback during and after the programme. My goals were to assess my teaching approach in these circumstances and to what extent the outcomes were positive for the learners. As I had come from a background of English Home Language teaching in good, well-resourced schools I found I had to question many of my assumptions. Although I was an experienced, qualified and confident teacher, I was continually having to reassess my teaching methods which were being challenged by very different classroom conditions. The outcomes of the research show why I was not able to achieve what I had thought I could in the time given.

The purpose of the study is to contribute with knowledge of preschool teachers' perceptions of the work with the app Polyglutt during reading aloud to promote children's language development. Preschool teachers' reflections on the use of Polyglutt and physical books are also studied. Using qualitative semi-structured interviews, the study was conducted with eight licensed preschool teachers from seven different preschools and one preschool class. The material was analyzed with qualitative content analysis. The results show that the preschool teachers in the study work relatively equally with the Polyglutt app. All preschool teachers believe that Polyglutt is an excellent complement to physical books but for different purposes. It appears that the Polyglutt app can be used to promote children's language development, but that reading aloud, regardless of the form of reading aloud, has a positive impact on children's language development. One of the conclusions that emerges in the study is that preschool teachers' presence in reading aloud with Polyglutt and physical books is important in the work with children's language development. Another conclusion according to the preschool teachers is that reflection and discussion about the book's content is of great importance. A mixture of Polyglutt and physical books when reading aloud proves to be beneficial in the work with children's language development according to the preschool teachers' perceptions.

Résumé :
Diaspora transformed the urban terrain of colonial societies, creating polyglot worlds out of neighborhoods, workplaces, recreational clubs and public spheres. It was within these spaces that communities reimagined and reshaped their public identities vis-à-vis emerging government policies and perceptions from other communities. Through a century of Macanese activities in British Hong Kong, this book explores how mixed-race diasporic communities survived within unequal, racialized and biased systems beyond the colonizer-colonized dichotomy. Originating from Portuguese Macau yet living outside the control of the empire, the Macanese freely associated with more than one identity and pledged allegiance to multiple communal, political and civic affiliations. They drew on colorful imaginations of the Portuguese and British empires in responding to a spectrum of changes encompassing Macau’s woes, Hong Kong’s injustice, Portugal’s political transitions, global developments in print culture and the rise of new nationalisms during the inter-war period.

Résumé :
A wide-ranging Renaissance-like figure, Dora d’Istria (the literary pseudonym of Princess Elena Ghica Koltzoff-Massalsky - 1828-1888) was one of the most refined intellectuals of the nineteenth century. Dedicating herself both to history and sociology, researcher of European stature, d’Istria addressed issues such as the relationship between Christian values and the progress of humanity, the national rebirth of Eastern European populations or the improvement of the moral and material condition of women. She was also a polyglot (at age ten she had already spoken nine foreign languages), writer, painter, translator, composer, music performer, and feminist. The breadth of her achievements made her biographer, Bartolomeo Cecchetti, write that Dora d’Istria “was truly a living encyclopedia.” Moreover, she had the vision of forming a European union, which she saw as a future union of states of neo-Latin tradition. The development of democracy, articulated on two founding pillars, freedom and equality, is one of the fundamental tenets of her thinking. Dora d’Istria surely takes an equal place beside the enlightened prince of the Moldavia, Dimitrie Cantemir.

Résumé :
Spatial databases form the foundation for a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). For this, a spatial database should be methodically developed to accommodate its role in SDI. It is desirable to have an approach to spatial database development that considers maintenance from the early stage of database design and in a flexible way. Moreover, there is a lack of a mechanism to capture topological relations of spatial objects during the design process. This paper presents an approach that integrates maintenance of topological integrity constraints into the whole spatial database development cycle. The approach is based on the concept of Abstract Data Types. A number of topological classes have been identified and modelling primitives developed for them. Topological integrity constraints are embedded into maintenance functions associated with the topological classes. A semi-automatic transformation process has been developed following the principles of Model Driven Architecture to simplify the design process.

Résumé :
The Slovenian education system educates and trains young people under the guidelines of sustainable development, as this will increase responsibility and adherence to the environment and human society, which part we are. With this training, active method learning is emphasized, where students in empirical way in the real world through the experience of life and with use of their senses get the new knowledge. In this chapter, the authors present two learning polygons: a polygon for ecoremediations, and learning ground for permaculture, where students on the basis of experiential learning in real world pursue their learning objectives the field of geography. These are piloting examples of the educational polygons outside schools, and therefore create opportunity for practical application of frontal classroom lessons. Field works can substitute classroom activities and create new way of learning. Research and education work on polygons give possibilities for planning active work in landscape, team work, cooperation, and evaluation.

Résumé :
Abstract. The focus of this research lays on the further development of the Polygon Forming Technology, which is already successfully used for cold forming components in the aerospace industry. One example is the fuselage shell of the Airbus Beluga XL. According to the current state of the art it is possible to incrementally form large cylindrical or conical fuselage components by Polygon Forming. With the use of so-called infills, the Polygon Forming process can also be used to form components with pockets milled in the initial plane state. The limits of this technology exclude the creation of spherical geometries, such as those used in the front or rear fuselage sections of aircrafts. Presently, such components are produced by more complex stretch forming processes, which result in a considerable amount of scrap. In this work, a tool is developed to replicate the Polygon Forming process on experimental scale at the Institute of Forming Technology and Machines (IFUM) for materials commonly used in aerospace engineering. In addition, a downscaled pre-test tool is developed to investigate different tool geometries for incremental spherical forming inexpensive and easy according to the method of rapid prototyping.

Résumé :
In the framework of the concept of neoconflictology, the possibilities and methods of mathematical modelling of conflict dynamics under uncertainty are considered. Complex contradictory situations, when it is necessary to quickly respond to changes in the situation and perform some actions in conditions of uncertainty, are often found in different spheres of activity. In this case, the uncertainty may be due to incomplete knowledge of the situation, the inability to quickly understand and evaluate possible options for its development, the influence on it from other participants in the process, etc. The result of further developments depends on how the decision will be to the situation and what actions will follow on its basis. Usually, the effectiveness of behavior in difficult situations is determined by the level of special training and experience of the decision maker. The trend of using artificial intelligence systems to support decision-making, including complex conflict situations with a high level of uncertainty, is now more frequent. Focusing on the use of such systems requires the creation and improvement of specialized tools and technologies, thanks to which the artificial intelligence systems themselves can form an information base, which is a necessary factor for developing rational solutions in a complex environment. The creation of a virtual polygons is one of the ways for producing such information base.

Résumé :
As part of the development CAD for design rule checks (DRC), it is necessary to use logical operations on orthogonal polygons that form the layout of an integrated circuit. Such operations as union, intersection, subtraction are performed over layers that contain orthogonal polygons. These operations are subject to stringent execution time requirements. The traditional representation of polygons in the form of bitmaps does not provide a quasi-linear dependence of time on the processed data size and requires development of new algorithms and polygon representation approaches. This paper contains a description of a modified sweeping line obscuring algorithm that achieves O(N log N) time. The algorithm uses three properties of the polygon: the separation of inner region from outer region by the edge, the belonging of edges to the set of either vertical or horizontal edges, and dissection of the layer plane into rectangular fragments which belong to either inner or outer region of the polygon. Procedures of input polygon contour representations that are dissected into sets of vertical and horizontal edges are described. As a result of performing logical operations, polygon edges of the resulting layer are formed. These edges, in turn, are converted into contour representations. The results of a computational experiment confirming the nature of the time dependences determined theoretically are presented. We propose the structure of a software system for DRC, built with the use of programming languages C++ and Lua.

Résumé :
Abstract This paper considers distance-to-contact (DTC) calculation strategies to improve computational efficiency in two dimensional motion planning. A basic DTC calculation approach is described which combines geometric concepts and iterative calculations in identifying the minimum distance between two separated objects of interest. The developed approach, termed the “Q-polygon” method, efficiently obtains the analytical minimum distance between two convex objects. The paper describes the development of the Q-polygon strategy and considers its performance in representative DTC calculations. The performance of the Q-polygon approach compares very favorably to a typical quadratic programming technique for basic DTC calculations and shows an impressive low sensitivity to increasing complexity of the considered objects.

Résumé :
Erosion dominates among the degradation processes of chernozems (black soils) in Ukrainian. It covers 32% of the total area of agricultural land 14.9 million hectares. The development of erosion processes depends on the combined effect of factors: climatic, geomorphologic, geologic (including the characteristics of parent rocks), hydrogeologic and technogenic impact. The purpose of the research is the analysis of natural and technogenic factors of chernozems degradation in Ukraine to develop the principles of preservation and restoration of their fertility. The comparative-analytical method, mechanical-mathematical bases of engineering geology in a complex with approaches of the system analysis were used in carrying out research. Remote sensing data (ALOS PALSAR, Sentinel) have been processed using a geoinformation system to the database of indicators of erosion processes such as relief steepness and Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI). The assessment of the development of degradation processes has been done for the territory of polygon Kherson", Ukraine. The parent rocks are loess, loess loam and sandy loams, eluvial rocks (carbonate), alluvial soils. There is a risk of development of the following dangerous geological processes: flooding, subsidence of loess soils, soil erosion, karst, development of gully network. The degree of erosion (degradation) within the polygon varies from 10-20% to 30-40%. Research methods developed to establish the patterns of erosion processes determined by natural factors will allow the development of zonal systems of anti-erosion measures aimed at protecting fertile soils.
