Il presente volume si propone di eseguire uno studio che, attraverso un set di indicatori da applicare a tre parametri (appropriatezza, efficienza e qualità dei servizi sanitari), valuti le eventuali debolezze dei servizi assistenziali, territoriali e ospedalieri in caso di disastri con ripercussioni sul medio-lungo periodo. Il progetto vuole identificare la vulnerabilità degli ospedali fiorentini nel caso in cui l’area del Comune di Firenze e le aree limitrofe siano interessate da una maxi-emergenza con parziale o totale compromissione della continuità assistenziale delle strutture ospedaliere. Si propongono, inoltre, strategie e piani per mantenere la continuità operativa anche in caso di maxi-emergenza.

Negli ultimi anni l’approfondimento sulle tematiche paesaggistiche, l’approvazione dei primi piani paesaggistici regionali, la riflessione sull’azione svolta dalle Soprintendenze stanno introducendo un cambio di prospettiva nell’azione di tutela, richiamando l’attenzione sugli aspetti di criticità a essa connessi ma anche sulle numerose innovazioni emerse. Questo libro presenta i risultati di una ricerca dedicata alla pianificazione paesaggistica in Italia restituendone un dettagliato stato dell’arte e offrendo alcuni approfondimenti sulle esperienze più significative. Il volume propone infine una proposta metodologica per un modello operativo di pianificazione paesaggistica basata su un approccio di tipo patrimoniale e strutturale al paesaggio.

Il volume è frutto di una ricognizione delle esperienze e delle avvertenze utili alla creazione di un osservatorio del paesaggio in Toscana e alle definizioni delle modalità reticolari e interattive che questo può assumere ai fini della propria efficacia operativa. L’analisi si è svolta nell’ambito del processo di formazione del Piano Paesaggistico della Regione Toscana e della collaborazione che questa ha promosso con il Centro interuniversitario di Scienze del territorio. Partendo dall’esame dei modelli organizzativi e funzionali che caratterizzano le principali esperienze europee e italiane, nella pluralità dei contesti normativi, delle forme di pianificazione e regolazione paesaggistica e delle pratiche di mobilitazione culturale e associativa delle popolazioni di riferimento, vengono formulate alcune ipotesi di lavoro calibrate sulla situazione toscana.

This introductory chapter discusses string chamber music, which fostered a variety of social interactions that helped build communities within communities in the nineteenth century. Chamber music for strings resists easy incorporation into the dominant narrative of musical developments centered on technological progress and compositional innovation. This is because chamber music's association with musical conservativism and orthodoxy has colored its reception since at least the 1840s. One reason for string music's apparent orthodoxy lies in the fact that stringed instruments themselves experienced only subtle organological changes in the nineteenth century in comparison to the piano or to wind instruments, which radically changed the timbre of the orchestra in symphonic and operatic works. Moreover, observations that string chamber music remained essentially conservative in its treatment of genre, form, harmony, and the like betray modern historiography's obsession with innovation.

In story and production, Duel in the Sun and The Paradine Case have little in common, but it is precisely their contrasts that show how music served both a more elaborate and experimental function in Selznick’s postwar films. For Duel, Selznick construed a genre-bending western of operatic proportions, striving for “an equivalent of [Wagner’s] Tristan.” Inspired and intimidated by the comparison, composer Dimitri Tiomkin churned out music, much of it rejected. From film to soundtrack album, Tiomkin relied upon choral director Jester Hairston and editor Audray Granville to realize the film’s musical program. As Selznick conceded, The Paradine Case sought to make amends for Duel’s lapses of taste. In this emotionally chilled mystery of a piano-playing murder suspect, Franz Waxman’s music both conceals and discloses characters’ motivations. In adapting musical scenes from the source novel for the screen, Selznick and Hitchcock cast music as the hinge upon which deception swings.

The part dealing with health and wellbeing surveys the brain mechanisms involved in music learning and performing and musical activities in people with disabilities, performance anxiety, diseases and health risks in instrumentalists, hearing and voice, and finally, a discussion of how to promote a healthy related lifestyle. The first six chapters of the Science part cover the basic science underlying the operation of wind, brass, string instruments, and the piano, and two chapters covering the solo voice and vocal ensembles. The final two chapters explain digital musical instruments and the practical issues that researchers and performers face when using motion capture technology to study movement during musical performances.
