Résumé :
Optical waveguide phased arrays have highlighted advantages than other electro-optical material optical arrays in scanning angle, response speed etc. For diffraction fields of uniform waveguide have strong side-lobes, which have influence on scanning performance of phased arrays. So side-lobes compression is one of the main issues for optical waveguide phased array device development. Based on photoelectric effect, the relations of voltage and phase are analysised. Phase-only array beam control using a Genetic Algorithm, an efficiency-optimized scheme, for uniform optical waveguide array with process errors is proposed. Phase distributions are arranged as randomly increasing distributions and random distributions. The results show phase-only optical waveguide arrays control, without the reconstruction of devices, has fine side-lobes compression effects with -9.89[dB] side-lobes intensity ratio. So the performance of scanning beams gets well improved.

Résumé :
The influence of driving conditions on the phase-modulation ability of an optically addressable spatial-light modulator (OASLM) is investigated using an equivalent circuit method and a system for measuring wave-front modulation that uses a phase-unwrapping data-processing method, and is constructed with a charge-coupled device and wave-front sensor. 1λ peak-to-valley phase change for a 1053 nm laser beam is acquired with the home-made OASLM at the optimal driving voltage of 14 V at 200 Hz. The detection system for wave-front modulation has a spatial resolution of 200 µm for binary images and a minimum distinguishable contrast of 1 mm. On-line phase modulation with feedback control can be acquired with the OASLM and the corresponding measuring system.

Résumé :
This paper presents an iterative algorithm for the synthesis of the three-dimensional (3D) radiation pattern generated by an antenna array of arbitrary geometry. The algorithm is conceived to operate in fifth-generation (5G) millimeter-wave scenarios, thus enabling the support of multi-user mobile streaming and massive peer-to-peer communications, which require the possibility to synthesize 3D patterns with wide null regions and multiple main beams. Moreover, the proposed solution adopts a phase-only control approach to reduce the complexity of the feeding network and is characterized by a low computational cost, thanks to the closed-form expressions derived to estimate the phase of each element at the generic iteration. These expressions are obtained from the minimization of a weighted cost function that includes all the necessary constraints. To finally check its versatility in a 5G environment, the developed method is validated by numerical examples involving planar and conformal arrays, considering desired patterns with different numbers of main beams and nulls.

Résumé :
In this paper an effective iterative method is presented for the power synthesis of reconfigurable antenna arrays. The algorithm is suitable for arrays of arbitrary geometry, including the case where a large number of elements is involved. The reconfigurability is achieved by phase-only control, so that the excitation amplitude of each array element remains constant during the reconfiguration process. Such amplitudes may be different from one array element to the others, and they are not assigned a priori, but are optimized. Furthermore, the electric field is imposed to vanish in a number of prescribed points of the near-field region, so that a strong field reduction is obtained in a neighborhood of them.

Résumé :
The application of geometric phases into robust control of quantal systems has triggered exploration of the geometric phase for coupled subsystems. Earlier studies have mainly focused on the situation where the external control parameters are in the free Hamiltonian of the subsystems, i.e. the controls exert only on the individual subsystems. Here we consider another circumstance that we can control the coupling geiϕ between the subsystems. By changing only the phase ϕ in the coupling constant, we derive the Berry phase acquired by the system and compare it to the geometric phase acquired by changing the coupling strength g. We find that the asymptotic behavior of the Berry phase depends on the relative Rabi frequency of the two subsystems, and it approaches π when the amplitude of the coupling tends to infinity.

Résumé :
Fine pixel size and high-resolution liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) backplanes have been developed by various companies and research groups since 1973. The development of LCoS is not only beneficial for full high definition displays but also to spatial light modulation. The high-quality and well-calibrated panels can project computer generated hologram (CGH) designs faithfully for phase-only holography, which can be widely utilized in 2D/3D holographic video projectors and components for optical telecommunications. As a result, we start by summarizing the current status of high-resolution panels, followed by addressing issues related to the driving frequency (i.e., liquid crystal response time and hardware interface). LCoS panel qualities were evaluated based on the following four characteristics: phase linearity control, phase precision, phase stability, and phase accuracy.

Résumé :
Phase controlled accurate voltage divider creates two coherent AC voltages with calculated magnitude ratio using additional voltages with calculated phase control. Ratio of these voltages is calculated theoretically with high accuracy. Digital-to-analog converters (DAC) are used to create AC additional voltages. Because of it the discreteness of the phase controlled voltage divider is equal to DACs digit divided on two. Modern DAC, depend on their operation speed, usually have 6-16 digits. Consequently, the discreteness of the relative magnitude phase control lies in the range of 3 × 10–2 –3 × 10–5. Discreteness of the DAC phase control only slightly infl uence on the accuracy of the magnitude phase control, so that only discreteness of DAC infl uences on the accuracy of measurement by phase controlled dividers. Report describes the methods of the discreteness uncertainty reduction in voltage dividers with phase control. Two methods of the discreteness uncertainty reduction are discussed. First one use phase controlled dividers only. Other one use mixed both phase and magnitude control. The discreteness uncertainty of both methods is investigated. Possibility of the crea tion of the phase controlled divider with diff erent control low are discussed and analyzed. Decade calibration in both cases is developed and researched.

Résumé :
Sun-oriented attitude control is one of the most important attitude control modes for most micro/nano satellites, which directly affects the on-orbit energy acquisition. Therefore, it is of great importance to use the simplest sensors and actuators and the most reliable algorithm to achieve sun-oriented attitude control. A sun-oriented spin-stabilized attitude control method for micro/nano satellites using only magnetic control is proposed in this paper, in which the control progress is divided into four phases: initial damping phase, sun-aligned phase, spin-up phase, and spin-stabilized phase. The influence of the shadow zone of the orbit, offset installation of sun sensor and solar panel, limitation of the field of view of the sun sensor, and environmental disturbance torques are all considered in the proposed method. The control performance is evaluated by numerical simulations, and the simulation results show that the proposed method is applicable to the satellite equipped with a sun sensor and a 3-axis magnetometer as attitude sensors and three magnetic torquers installed orthogonally as attitude actuators. The proposed method is applicable to most Earth-orbit satellites for which the geomagnetic field can provide sufficient attitude control torque.

The approximate value of exterior orientation parameters is needed for air photo bundle adjustment. Usually the air borne GPS/IMU can provide the initial value for the camera position and attitude angle. However, in some cases, the camera’s attitude angle is not available due to lack of IMU or other reasons. In this case, the kappa angle needs to be estimated for each photo before bundle adjustment. The kappa angle can be obtained from the Ground Control Points (GCPs) in the photo. Unfortunately it is not the case that enough GCPs are always available. In order to overcome this problem, an algorithm is developed to automatically estimate the kappa angle for air photos based on phase only correlation technique. This function has been embedded in PCI software. Extensive experiments show that this algorithm is fast, reliable, and stable.

Résumé :
This paper presents a fast iterative method for the synthesis of linear and planar antenna arrays of arbitrary geometry that provides pattern reconfigurability for 5G applications. The method enables to generate wide null regions shaped according to a Gaussian distribution, which complies with recent measurements on millimeter-wave (mmWave) angular dispersion. A phase-only control approach is adopted by moving from the pattern provided by a uniformly excited array and iteratively modifying the sole phases of the excitations. This allows the simplification of the array feeding network, hence reducing the cost of realization of 5G base stations and mobile terminals. The proposed algorithm, which is based on the method of successive projections, relies on closed-form expressions for both the projectors and the null positions, thus allowing a fast computation of the excitation phases at each iteration. The effectiveness of the proposed solution is checked through numerical examples compliant with 5G mmWave scenarios and involving linear and concentric ring arrays.

Résumé :
The polymorphic phase of 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) was examined as a function of mass loading, solvent, and sample deposition technique. When RDX was deposited at a high mass loading, the vibrational modes in the obtained Raman spectra were indicative of concomitant polymorphism as both the α-RDX and β-RDX phases were present. At low mass loadings, only β-RDX was observed regardless of solvent when using the drop cast crystallization method. However, α-RDX (the thermodynamically stable polymorphic phase observed with visible quantities of the explosive) was observed when RDX deposits were dry transferred. Observation of α-RDX was independent of the initial mass loading or the initial deposition solvent when using the dry transfer methodology. These data indicate that the use of the dry transfer preparation method can be used to successfully prepare RDX-based test articles with the α-RDX phase regardless of the solvent used to initially dissolve the RDX, the initial deposition technique, or the mass loading.

Résumé :
Power control method had been widely used because of its simplicity, good dynamic performance, decoupled active and reactive power control for three-phase PWM rectifier. But it is not adapted to single-phase rectifier as power calculating problem. A power tracking control method is proposed for single-phase PWM rectifier. In new method, voltage and current with harmonics are decomposed of Fourier series. Their fundamental components are only extracted in order to calculate active power and reactive power and track requirement value. So the system not only realizes high power factor, sinusoidal current and stable DC link voltage, but also meet the application demand the capability of power regeneration to the power supply. The results of experiment show that the DC link voltage fluctuations should be minimal and the power factor is high. The proposed method is effective and practicable.

Résumé :
Abstract The environmental Alphaproteobacterium Caulobacter crescentus is a classical model to study the regulation of the bacterial cell cycle. It divides asymmetrically, giving a stalked cell that immediately enters S phase and a swarmer cell that stays in the G1 phase until it differentiates into a stalked cell. Its genome consists in a single circular chromosome whose replication is tightly regulated so that it happens only in stalked cells and only once per cell cycle. Imbalances in chromosomal copy numbers are the most often highly deleterious, if not lethal. This review highlights recent discoveries on pathways that control chromosome replication when Caulobacter is exposed to optimal or less optimal growth conditions. Most of these pathways target two proteins that bind directly onto the chromosomal origin: the highly conserved DnaA initiator of DNA replication and the CtrA response regulator that is found in most Alphaproteobacteria. The concerted inactivation and proteolysis of CtrA during the swarmer-to-stalked cell transition license cells to enter S phase, while a replisome-associated Regulated Inactivation and proteolysis of DnaA (RIDA) process ensures that initiation starts only once per cell cycle. When Caulobacter is stressed, it turns on control systems that delay the G1-to-S phase transition or the elongation of DNA replication, most probably increasing its fitness and adaptation capacities.

Résumé :
This paper describes a new feedforward algorithm for accurate tracking control of nonminimal phase systems. Accurate feedforward calculation involves a prefilter design using the inverse system model. Nonminimal phase systems cause problems with this prefilter design, because unstable zeros become unstable poles in the inverse model. The zero phase error tracking control algorithm (ZPETC) consists of a substitution scheme, which removes the unstable zeros. This scheme introduces a small gain error, which increases with frequency, but no phase error. This paper investigates additional properties which give more insight into the ZPETC algorithm, and allow to improve it. The improved algorithm is based on the same substitution scheme as ZPETC, but adds additional feedforward terms to compensate for the gain error. These additional terms increase the frequency range for which the overall transfer function has only limited gain error, without introducing phase errors. The additional feedforward terms repeatedly reduce the tracking error proportional to ε2, ε4, ε6, …, where ε is the ZPETC tracking error. The new feedforward algorithm or new substitution scheme is therefore called “extended bandwidth zero phase error tracking control algorithm” (EBZPETC). Experimental results on a one-link flexible robot compares both methods.

Résumé :
This article <span>presents the design control of a tracking problem for a non-minimum phase bilinear control system containing disturbance. The bilinear control system is assumed to have a relative degree one and non-minimum phase, which means it has unstable internal dynamics. The disturbance exists only in state variables corresponding to the control function in external dynamics. The control design was carried out using the backstepping method, which was applied to the normal form of the bilinear control system. Internal dynamics will be stabilised using virtual control to overcome unstable internal dynamics. The last step will stabilise the external dynamics and disturbance using the original control function. The simulation results show that the proposed control method can rapidly drive the output to the given trajectory. Control performance varies depending on the control parameter setting. The higher the control parameter, the better the control performance, evaluated using integral absolute error.</span>

Résumé :
On the foundation of the original backpressure-based traffic light control algorithm, a distributed cooperative backpressure-based traffic light control method is proposed in this paper. The urban traffic network is modeled as a smart agent-controlled queuing network, in which the intersection agents exchange the queue length information and the selected activating light phase information of neighboring intersections through communications and determine the activating light phase at each time slot according to local traffic information. The improved phase pressure computation method considers the phase state of downstream intersections instead of only the queue length of the local intersections. Light phase switching coordination among adjacent intersections is achieved using the consensus-based bundle algorithm, in which the cooperative light phase switching problem is viewed as a task assignment issue among adjacent intersections. Simulation results illustrated that the proposed cooperative backpressure-based traffic light control method obtained better performance than the original backpressure-based and fixed-time traffic control methods.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Swallowing is a motor process with several discordances and a very difficult neurophysiological study. Maybe that is the reason for the scarcity of papers about it. OBJECTIVE: It is to describe the chewing neural control and oral bolus qualification. A review the cranial nerves involved with swallowing and their relationship with the brainstem, cerebellum, base nuclei and cortex was made. METHODS: From the reviewed literature including personal researches and new observations, a consistent and necessary revision of concepts was made, not rarely conflicting. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Five different possibilities of the swallowing oral phase are described: nutritional voluntary, primary cortical, semiautomatic, subsequent gulps, and spontaneous. In relation to the neural control of the swallowing pharyngeal phase, the stimulus that triggers the pharyngeal phase is not the pharyngeal contact produced by the bolus passage, but the pharyngeal pressure distension, with or without contents. In nutritional swallowing, food and pressure are transferred, but in the primary cortical oral phase, only pressure is transferred, and the pharyngeal response is similar. The pharyngeal phase incorporates, as its functional part, the oral phase dynamics already in course. The pharyngeal phase starts by action of the pharyngeal plexus, composed of the glossopharyngeal (IX), vagus (X) and accessory (XI) nerves, with involvement of the trigeminal (V), facial (VII), glossopharyngeal (IX) and the hypoglossal (XII) nerves. The cervical plexus (C1, C2) and the hypoglossal nerve on each side form the ansa cervicalis, from where a pathway of cervical origin goes to the geniohyoid muscle, which acts in the elevation of the hyoid-laryngeal complex. We also appraise the neural control of the swallowing esophageal phase. Besides other hypotheses, we consider that it is possible that the longitudinal and circular muscular layers of the esophagus display, respectively, long-pitch and short-pitch spiral fibers. This morphology, associated with the concept of energy preservation, allows us to admit that the contraction of the longitudinal layer, by having a long-pitch spiral arrangement, would be able to widen the esophagus, diminishing the resistance to the flow, probably also by opening of the gastroesophageal transition. In this way, the circular layer, with its short-pitch spiral fibers, would propel the food downwards by sequential contraction.
