Résumé :
Due to poor local range of the perception and object recognition mechanisms used by autonomous vehicles, incorrect decisions can be made, which can jeopardize a fully autonomous operation. A connected and autonomous vehicle should be able to combine its local perception with the perceptions of other vehicles to improve its capability to detect and predict obstacles. Such a collective perception system aims to expand the field of view of autonomous vehicles, augmenting their decision-making process, and as a consequence, increasing driving safety. Regardless of the benefits of a collective perception system, autonomous vehicles must intelligently select which data should be shared with who and when in order to conserve network resources and maintain the overall perception accuracy and time usefulness. In this context, the operational impact and benefits of a redundancy reduction mechanism for collective perception among connected autonomous vehicles are analyzed in this article. Therefore, we propose a reliable redundancy mitigation mechanism for collective perception services to reduce the transmission of inefficient messages, which is called VILE. Knowledge, selection, and perception are the three phases of the cooperative perception process developed in VILE. The results have shown that VILE is able to reduce it the absolute number of redundant objects of 75% and generated packets by up to 55%. Finally, we discuss possible research challenges and trends.

Résumé :
Peculiarities of expert systems for image analysis (ESIA) as well as their distinction from traditional expert systems are considered. Two interconnected components of the ESIA which simulate left and right cerebral hemisphere mechanisms of human visual perception are pointed out. The left formal-logical mechanism is simulated by a “conceptual hierarchy”, reflecting a problem area specialists’ knowledge. The right spatial-pattern mechanism is simulated by a “visual hierarchy” and an image processing expertise. An approach to ESIA development on the base of pyramidal-recursive structures as a way for image representation and for establishing a correspondence between elements of the two hierarchies is proposed.

Résumé :
The article presents a review of domestic studies of social perception among teachers. The social and professional significance of this phenomenon for teachers; the relationship of gender and age, sociodemographic and individual psychological characteristics of teachers and individual mechanisms of social perception are described. Aspects of the relationship between the phenomenon of social perception and professional competence were identified. The studies of the phenomenon of social perception in future teachers were reviewed. The article also presents generalized data of studying the mechanisms of social perception. Particular attention was paid to the fact that the identification mechanism is included in the empathy mechanism. Reflection was defined as a professionally important quality for a teacher, stimulating the research, creative process, thereby leading the teacher to new tasks of professional activity and acting as the main means of supporting the subjectivity of students. Attraction was studied, mainly, on a wide sample without correlation with professional activity. At the same time, it was highlighted that this mechanism was identified as a factor in the development of moral and environmental values of the teacher. Despite a wide range of studies devoted to the phenomenon of social perception and its mechanisms, according to the results of a review of domestic studies of social perception among teachers, it was concluded that there is insufficient empirical study of the mechanisms of understanding and perception of the personality and behavior of a student among teachers as a result of professional stress, as well as a lack of research related with the possibilities of including social perception in preventive measures for the formation of professional stress.

Résumé :
Dehumanized perception, a failure to spontaneously consider the mind of another person, may be a psychological mechanism facilitating inhumane acts like torture. Social cognition – considering someone’s mind – recognizes the other as a human being subject to moral treatment. Social neuroscience has reliably shown that participants normally activate a social-cognition neural network to pictures and thoughts of other people; our previous work shows that parts of this network uniquely fail to engage for traditionally dehumanized targets (homeless persons or drug addicts; see Harris & Fiske, 2009 , for review). This suggests participants may not consider these dehumanized groups’ minds. Study 1 demonstrates that participants do fail to spontaneously think about the contents of these targets’ minds when imagining a day in their life, and rate them differently on a number of human-perception dimensions. Study 2 shows that these human-perception dimension ratings correlate with activation in brain regions beyond the social-cognition network, including areas implicated in disgust, attention, and cognitive control. These results suggest that disengaging social cognition affects a number of other brain processes and hints at some of the complex psychological mechanisms potentially involved in atrocities against humanity.

Résumé :
The terpenoid, small-compound strigolactones (SLs) are plant hormones that regulate plant shoot branching, which is an important agronomic trait that determines crop yields. An α/β-hydrolase protein, DWARF14 (D14), has been recognized to be an essential component of plant SL signaling. Recently, it has been demonstrated that D14 interacts with a gibberellin (GA)-signaling repressor SLR1 in an SL-dependent manner [1], which suggests that SLR1 mediates crosstalk between the SL and GA signalings in the regulation of plant shoot branching. Although D14 functions in SL perception to promote the interaction with SLR1, its molecular mechanism remains unclear. Here, we report the crystal structure of D14 in the complex with 5-hydroxy-3-methylbutenolide (D-OH), which is a reaction product of SLs. The structure was solved at a 2.10-Å resolution when an SL synthetic analogue, (–)-ent-2'-epi-GR7, was soaked into D14 crystals [1]. In the complex structure, D-OH was located at a site far from the catalytic residues including H297 and appeared to function as a plug for the catalytic cavity to induce an overall hydrophobic surface with a hydrophilic patch between the two α-helices in the cap structure of D14. In the binding site, the indole amine of Trp205 formed a hydrogen bond with the oxygen atom of the C2' hydroxy group, which arose from the catalytic reaction of D14, instead of a water molecule in the structure of apo D14. In addition, the side chain of Phe245 moved 1.3 Å toward D-OH. Mutational analyses of D14 showed that the interaction between D14 and SLR1 required an enzymatic activity of D14 and the residues Trp205 and Phe245 were essential for the SL-dependent SLR1-binding of D14. These results suggest that the D14–D-OH complex mediates the interaction with SLR1 in which the D-OH-induced surface and/or structural change is crucial.

Résumé :
The relationship between the behavior of single-celled organisms and cognition in higher animals is explored. Recent research and theory in bacterial chemotaxis are presented, together with a discussion of the implications of chemotaxis for perceptual theory. A number of parallels between chemotaxis and perception in higher organisms are drawn. It is suggested that Koshland's model of the chemical processes controlling chemotaxis is an example of a mechanism for direct perception of change and can help elucidate Runeson's work on ‘smart mechanisms’ of perception. It is argued, more generally, that the growing body of knowledge about the perceptual activities of lower organisms should be used to broaden the factual base on which theories of perception are constructed: eg explication of perceptual parallels between humans and lower organisms should help clarify the nature of these phenomena in humans and, perhaps, help in the development of theories of greater generality. Also, the debate between direct and indirect theories of perception may be advanced by analysis of the specific mechanisms used by lower organisms. Contrasts to mediated perception are pointed out and arguments for the relative simplicity and explanatory power of theories of direct perception are provided.

Résumé :
Physiological stimuli in the gut induce regulatory reflexes to accomplish the digestive process, but are normally not perceived. However, under some circumstances, gut stimuli may activate perception pathways and induce conscious sensations. Experimental evidence gathered during the past decade suggests that patients with functional gut disorders and unexplained abdominal symptoms may have a sensory dysfunction of the gut, so that physiological stimuli would induce symptoms. Assessment of visceral sensitivity is still poorly developed, but in analogy to somatosensory testing, differential stimulation of visceral afferents may be achieved by a combination of stimulation techniques, which may help to characterize sensory dysfunctions. Visceral afferent input is modulated by a series of mechanisms at different levels of the brain–gut axis, and conceivably, a dysfunction of these regulatory mechanisms could cause hyperalgesia. The sensory dysfunction in functional patients seems to be associated with altered reflex activity, and both mechanisms may interact to produce the symptoms. Evidence of a gut sensory–reflex dysfunction as a common pathophysiological mechanism in different functional gastrointestinal disorders would suggest that they are different forms of the same process, and that the clinical manifestations depend on the specific pathways affected.

When visibility was low (e.g:39m), fog resulted in overestimation of the speed, When visibility was higher, fog resulted in underestimation of the speed, it is not in accordance with one-way influence of Anstis and Snowden. Have analyzed the reason why the experimental result is inconsistent and emerge in terms of light stream rate and contrast ratio in thesis. When visibility is low, the nearby optical flow rate is great which cause the driver overestimate the speed; When visibility is higher, the decline of contrast cause the driver underestimate the speed.

Résumé :
The objective of this study was to determine the stability of the function describing subjects' magnitude estimates of added inspiratory resistive loads following short-term exposure (STE) to a high but nonfatiguing, inspiratory load. Four inspiratory resistive loads (8.9–35.7 cmH2O X l–1 X s) were presented twice each in random order. Subjects were asked to estimate load magnitude by force of handgrip. Perceptual performance was quantified using Stevens power law, psi = k phi n, where psi is the subject's estimate, k is a constant, and phi is the peak mouth pressure developed against the load. The exponent n represents the slope of the line in the plot of log psi vs. log phi. After a 2-min period in which subjects were required to generate 80% of their maximum inspiratory pressure against a high resistance, the load estimation protocol was repeated. Estimates were significantly reduced compared to control; however, there was no significant difference in the exponent for magnitude functions between conditions. Similar results were obtained in a second parallel experiment involving magnitude estimation of weights lifted by the elbow flexors. The results suggest plasticity in the mechanism(s) subserving sensation of added loads to breathing and that such plasticity is a general feature of sensation arising from nonrespiratory muscles as well.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTIrritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by chronic abdominal discomfort or pain in the absence of detectable organic disease. IBS is common and is associated with a significant impairment in health-related quality of life. Enhanced perception of visceral stimuli (“visceral hypersensitivity”) appears to be an important patho-physiological mechanism. Early IBS studies using functional brain imaging techniques suggest an alteration in central pain modulation circuits, rather than an increased sensitivity of peripheral visceral pain pathways. The frequent comorbidity with psychiatric disorders suggests the possibility of shared pathophysiological mechanisms and etiologic factors.

Résumé :
COVID-19 pandemic has affected the educational system worldwide. Policies were created and implemented to guide the schools to offer flexible learning. Nevertheless, its implementation was partly in favor of those on the mainland. So, the author explored the lived experiences of teachers, parents, and learners in Science about their problems encountered, coping mechanisms, and perception of the learning modality in an island school. With this, an in-depth interview was employed to gather the data and was triangulated through observation and focus group discussion. Thematic analysis revealed that the complexity of the topics, the conduct of experiments and its materialization, and the unreliability scores of the learners were Science teachers' problems; their coping mechanisms were teacher-parent communication, additional learning resources, and house-to-house visitation; their perceptions disclosed that the learning modality is difficult. Participants' perception of the modular approach is attributed to their problems and coping mechanisms. Hence, the Department of Education may provide professional opportunities such as seminars, workshops, and training to enhance the skills of the teachers needed and relevant to the current setting of education. Résumé :
In recent efforts, instead of the conventional co-branding marketing approach, many fashion brands have tried to break through the original image by applying a crossover alliance method, and have achieved good results in practice. However, whether this kind of alliance can effectively enhance consumers’ online brand engagement is still a key question to be addressed. Using the S-O-R model, the paper introduces two mediating variables, novelty perception and hedonic perception, to explore the potential mechanism of brand image differences and product type differences on consumers’ online brand engagement under the background of a crossover alliance of fashion brands. This study shows that (1) brand image differences and product type differences positively affect consumers’ novelty perceptions and hedonic perceptions, and (2) such positive perceptions facilitate online brand engagement of consumers.

Résumé :
Understanding the relationship between the chemical structure and physicochemical properties of odor molecules and olfactory perception, i.e., the structure–odor relationship, remains a decades-old, challenging task. However, the differences among the molecular structure graphs of different molecules are subtle and complex, and the molecular feature descriptors are numerous, with complex interactions that cause multiple odor perceptions. In this paper, we propose to decompose the features of the molecular structure graph into feature vectors corresponding to each odor perception descriptor to effectively explore higher-order semantic interactions between odor molecules and odor perception descriptors. We propose an olfactory perception prediction model noted as HGAFMN, which utilizes a hypergraph neural network with the olfactory lateral inhibition-inspired attention mechanism to learn the molecular structure feature from the odor molecular structure graph. Furthermore, existing methods cannot effectively extract interactive features in the large number of molecular feature descriptors, which have complex relations. To solve this problem, we add an attentional factorization mechanism to the deep neural network module and obtain a molecular descriptive feature through the deep feature combination based on the attention mechanism. Our proposed HGAFMN has achieved good results in extensive experiments and will help product design and quality assessment in the food, beverage, and fragrance industries.

Résumé :
Light is essential for photosynthesis but light levels that exceed an organism’s assimilation capacity can cause serious damage or even cell death. Plants and microalgae have developed photoprotective mechanisms collectively referred to as non-photochemical quenching to minimize such potential damage. One such mechanism is energy-dependent quenching (qE), which dissipates excess light energy as heat. Over the last 30 years, much has been learned about the molecular mechanism of qE in green algae and plants. However, the steps between light perception and qE represented a gap in our knowledge until the recent identification of light-signaling pathways that function in these processes in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. In this review, we summarize the high light and UV-mediated signaling pathways for qE in Chlamydomonas. We discuss key questions remaining about the pathway from light perception to photoprotective gene expression in Chlamydomonas. We detail possible differences between green algae and plants in light-signaling mechanisms for qE and emphasize the importance of research on light-signaling mechanisms for qE in plants.

Résumé :
According to the enhanced perceptual functioning (EPF) model, autistic perception is characterized by: enhanced low-level operations; locally oriented processing as a default setting; greater activation of perceptual areas during a range of visuospatial, language, working memory or reasoning tasks; autonomy towards higher processes; and superior involvement in intelligence. EPF has been useful in accounting for autistic relative peaks of ability in the visual and auditory modalities. However, the role played by atypical perceptual mechanisms in the emergence and character of savant abilities remains underdeveloped. We now propose that enhanced detection of patterns, including similarity within and among patterns, is one of the mechanisms responsible for operations on human codes, a type of material with which savants show particular facility. This mechanism would favour an orientation towards material possessing the highest level of internal structure, through the implicit detection of within- and between-code isomorphisms. A second mechanism, related to but exceeding the existing concept of redintegration, involves completion, or filling-in, of missing information in memorized or perceived units or structures. In the context of autistics' enhanced perception, the nature and extent of these two mechanisms, and their possible contribution to the creativity evident in savant performance, are explored.

Résumé :
The aim of the paper is to analyse the influence of linguistic concepts of an agent on the qualitative aspects of her perception. We examine conceptualist and non-conceptualist approaches to the problem of what the content of perceptions is. The conceptualist approach asserts that the content of perception is similar to the content of beliefs: both types of content are assumed to be expressible in language. The non-conceptualist approach to the content of perception assumes that the content of perception cannot be conceptualized due to too much information available to the agent through visual perception. However, the assumption about non-conceptual content of perception leads to some serious difficulties with explaining the phenomenon of cognitive penetration of perception. This is an empirically established fact that some cognitive states may influence on the qualitative aspects of agent’s perception. We show that cognitive penetration of perception implies that perception and those cognitive states which affect it should have comparable content and this mechanism is based on the influence of expectations on perception.

Résumé :
Based on supportive evidence, it is proposed in this paper that rapid eye movements during paradoxical sleep actually represent nystagmus, the latter due to the occurrence of conflicting perceptions of bodily position in space. During rapid eye movements in sleep, the brain's perception of bodily position in a dream is opposed to the sensory perception of the dreamer's sleeping position. The split in perception triggers nystagmus, a physiological mechanism known to accompany motion sickness and other waking forms of spatial sense distortion. Supportive evidence from studies on motion sickness, nystagmus, and sleep is presented. A number of experiments are suggested to lend validity to the hypothesis.

Résumé :
Colorectal cancer originates from adenomatous polyps. Adenomatous polyps start out as benign, but over time they can become malignant and even lead to complications and death which will spread to adherent and surrounding organs over time, such as lymph nodes, liver, or lungs, eventually leading to complications and death. Factors such as operator’s experience shortage and visual fatigue will directly affect the diagnostic accuracy of colonoscopy. To relieve the pressure on medical imaging personnel, this paper proposed a network model for colonic polyp detection using colonoscopy images. Considering the unnoticeable surface texture of colonic polyps, this paper designed a channel information interaction perception (CIIP) module. Based on this module, an information interaction perception network (IIP-Net) is proposed. In order to improve the accuracy of classification and reduce the cost of calculation, the network used three classifiers for classification: fully connected (FC) structure, global average pooling fully connected (GAP-FC) structure, and convolution global average pooling (C-GAP) structure. We evaluated the performance of IIP-Net by randomly selecting colonoscopy images from a gastroscopy database. The experimental results showed that the overall accuracy of IIP-NET54-GAP-FC module is 99.59%, and the accuracy of colonic polyp is 99.40%. By contrast, our IIP-NET54-GAP-FC performed extremely well.
