Texte intégralThis thesis work focuses on automatic speech processing, and more specifically on speaker diarization. This task requires the signal to be segmented to identify events such as voice activity, overlapped speech, or speaker changes. This work tackles the scenario where the signal is recorded by a device located in the center of a group of speakers, as in meetings. These conditions lead to a degradation in signal quality due to the distance between the speakers (distant speech). To mitigate this degradation, one approach is to record the signal using a microphone array. The resulting multichannel signal provides information on the spatial distribution of the acoustic field. Two lines of research are being explored for speech segmentation using microphone arrays. The first introduces a method combining acoustic features with spatial features. We propose a new set of features based on the circular harmonics expansion. This approach improves segmentation performance under distant speech conditions while reducing the number of model parameters and improving robustness in case of change in the array geometry. The second proposes several approaches that combine channels using self-attention. Different models, inspired by an existing architecture, are developed. Combining channels also improves segmentation under distant speech conditions. Two of these approaches make feature extraction more interpretable. The proposed distant speech segmentation systems also improve speaker diarization.Channel combination shows poor robustness to changes in the array geometry during inference. To avoid this behavior, a learning procedure is proposed, which improves the robustness in case of array mismatch. Finally, we identified a gap in the public datasets available for distant multichannel automatic speech processing. An acquisition protocol is introduced to build a new dataset, integrating speaker position annotation in addition to speaker diarization. Thus, this work aims to improve the quality of multichannel distant speech segmentation. The proposed methods exploit the spatial information provided by microphone arrays while improving the robustness in case of array mismatch

Texte intégralThis work focuses on the implementation of methods for multimodal recognition of text and speech in audiovisual content. It focuses in particular on lecture records, in which text and speech are extensively used. As the production of multimedia data is massively increasing, the access to these data becomes problematic and requires an efficient content indexing. It is necessary to take into account the heterogeneous nature of this information which is the aim of the paradigm of multimodal analysis. It should however be noted that due to the recent emergence of multimodal analysis, there have been only few attempts to define this field. In addition, only few studies have focused on the interaction between text and speech in multimedia stream and the use of this interaction for their extraction. Our contribution focuses on two points. First, we wish to address the lack of definition by proposing a model of the multimodal analysis. Its goal is to propose a framework for a better description of applications using multimodal analysis, including clearly defining the concepts of modality and multimodality. The second point of our contribution is focused on the multimodal recognition of text and speech. We compare text and speech recognition processes then consider two cases of text-speech collaboration. The first one doesn't involve text recognition. It aims to improve speech recognition by using a thematized language model based on textual resources of the course. Despite the small size of this corpus, we show a significant improvement in recognition results. We are experiencing also a text and speech cross-recognition method based on the complementarity phonetic and written representations of language. We show that this approach improves the text recognition results and could be used to emphasize the specialized vocabulary of the course

Texte intégralDesignating an object for the benefit of another person is one of the most basic processes inlinguistic communication. It is most of the time performed through the combined use of vocaland manual productions. The goal of this work is to understand and characterize the interactionsbetween speech and manual gesture during pointing tasks, in order to determine howmuch linguistic information is carried by each of these two systems, and eventually to test themain models of speech and gesture production. The first part of the study is about the production of vocal and manual pointing. The originalaspect of this work is to look for distance encoding parameters in the lexical, acoustic, articulatory and kinematic properties of multimodal pointing, and to show that these differentcharacteristics can be related with each other, and underlain by a similar basic motor behaviour: designating a distant object induces larger gestures, be they vocal or manual. This motorpattern can be related with the phonological pattern that is used for distance encoding in theworld’s languages. The experimental design that is used in this study contrasts bimodal vs. vocalmonomodal vs. monomodal manual pointings, and a comparison between these conditionsreveals that the vocal and manual modalities act in bidirectional cooperation for deixis, sharingthe informational load when used together. The second part of the study explores the development of multimodal pointing. The propertiesof multimodal pointing are assessed in 6-12 year-old children, in an experimental task similarto that of the adults. This second experiment attests a progressive evolution of speech/gestureinteractions in the development of spatial deixis. It reveals that distance is preferentially encodedin manual gestures in children, rather than in vocal gestures (and especially so in youngerchildren). It also shows that the cooperative use of speech and manual gesture in deixis is alreadyat play in children, though with more influence of gesture on speech than the reversedpattern. The third part of the study looks at sensorimotor interactions in the perception of spatial deixis. This experimental study, based on an intermodal priming paradigm, reveals that manual gestureplays a role in the production/perception mechanism associated with the semantic processingof language. These results can be related with those of studies on the sensorimotor nature ofrepresentations in the processing of linguistic sound units.Altogether, these studies provide strong evidence for an integrated representation of speech andmanual gestures in the human linguistic brain, even at a relatively early age in its development. They also show that distance encoding is a robust feature, which is also present in all aspectsof multimodal pointing

Texte intégralA statistical language model (LM) deals only with specific linguistic events and so, is not sufficient to describe the entire language. One must then combine several LM in order to recover a great part of the language. I propose, instead of systematically and linearly combining all the LMs, to select the best one following the linguistic context. I define a measure of the prediction capacity of a LM depending on the history. I apply this measure to the comparison of several distant n-gram LMs. This improves by 5. 4% the performance of the linear combination. Moreover, this method allows to define phrases as new lexical units in the vocabulary. These new units outperforms a baseline model by 21% in terms of perplexity and 12. 5% in terms of word error rate for a speech recognition task. An other contribution of this work consists in automatically collecting impossible events in french language. 60 millions of impossible bigrams are collected using heuristics based on information theory

Texte intégralThis thesis focuses on speaker voice transformation in the aim to indicate the distance of it: a spokento-whispered voice transformation to indicate a close distance and a spoken-to-shouted voicetransformation for a rather far distance. We perform at first, in-depth analysis to determine mostrelevant features in whispered voices and especially in shouted voices (much harder). The maincontribution of this part is to show the relevance of prosodic parameters in the perception of vocaleffort in a shouted voice. Then, we propose some descriptors to better characterize the prosodiccontours. For the actual transformation, we propose several new transformation rules whichimportantly control the quality of transformed voice. The results showed a very good quality oftransformed whispered voices and transformed shouted voices for relatively simple linguisticstructures (CVC, CVCV, etc.)

Texte intégralOur thesis aim was to design a system based on tactile modality to organize a synchronous, multi-user remote verbal communication to facilitate better turn-taking. The remote communication we studied is actually called the ‘conference call’, and relies on computer technology. A conference call is a form of CSCW, and it is thus a collaborative task. As conference calls have rarely been studied in previous research, a system designed to optimize this kind of work is of great value. Tactile modality is the basic element of the design and its impact is also studied in our thesis. As a modality of redundancy, tactile feedback accelerates the alternation of turn-taking. Moreover, it augments the intention of non-verbal exchanges, which accounts for most of the communication in face-to-face situations. As a modality of substitution, tactile modality shows a distinct advantage in making the turn-taking transfer smoother compared to visual modality. Finally, a conference call for a decision-making task under a simple turn-taking allocation system based on tactile modality provides evidence that this designed system’s controlled conference call has good efficiency and good distribution of the talking length of turn-taking
