Résumé :
Co-parenting emphasizes how couple manage their relationship in the parenting domains and carry out their role as parents. Based on research conducted by Feinberg and colleagues (2012), there are four overlapping domains of co-parenting: (1) child rearing agreement; (2) support/undermining partner’s parenting; (3) joint family management; and (4) division of labor. The interference of mobile-based technology is needed on the co-parenting relationship between the couple with reference to the four domains of co-parenting. The method used was the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model. It was divided into six stages of the process: requirement analysis, system design, implementation, system testing, system deployment, and system maintenance. In implementation, the system at an early stage has four main features: (1) child’s activity scheduling and reminder; (2) co-parenting’s education contents; (3) partner’s feedback; and (4) co-parenting’s assessment. The results that are proven by experts, agreed that educational content in the application is very necessary for more knowledge for parents, UI/UX design that is friendly and easy to understand by users, as well as the use of the latest reliable and flexible technology.

Résumé :
One of the two key measures to encourage birth within the Law on Financial Support to the Family with Children is salary compensation during parental leave. The very nature of maternity leave as a financial measure (based on the previous version of the Law) additionally contributed to the birth postponement in the period of stable employment. Under the conditions of high unemployment of young women, this measure seems to have deepened the problem because women were waiting for permanent employment on the basis of which they could obtain the right to maternity leave, young women often postponed birth for many years, objectively reducing the chances of conception. The new version of the Law formulates the specific conditions for gaining the right to salary compensation in a different way, which will almost certainly result in a much greater coverage by this measure. On the other hand, the method of calculating the compensation base is such that the average amount of compensation in relation to the previous version of the Law could be lower, so it can be concluded that the legislator wanted to achieve as much coverage as possible with a relatively similar amount of budgetary allocations. These amendments to the Law could have a positive effect through increased coverage and greater impact through creating a pro-family climate in a country that supports the family. Secondly, population groups that work on temporary and occasional jobs, and especially young people engaged in short-term contracts (under six months), whose work arrangements are often interrupted, will now be covered. Thirdly, the formulated conditions in this manner will potentially allow faster acquisition of the right to compensation at a lower age. Fourth, gaining rights at a lower age will potentially influence the pace of fertility and indirectly to the birth quantum. Regardless of the fact that by adopting the latest version the Law is undoubtedly improved, there is still a huge space for its significant improvement. As it was pointed out that the parental leave can have more dimensions, and that the importance of its flexibility and use by both parents is equally important for the decision to give birth, and in particular for the decision on the number and time of higher order births, it would be of great demographic significance for the system of work-parenting convergement to harmonize with the postulates of modern population policy and take into account positive experience of countries with confirmed effect on fertility as soon as possible.

Résumé :
This qualitative study explored the experiences of 22 domestic violence survivors attempting to negotiate safe post-separation parenting arrangements through the Australian family law system. Their allegations of violence put them at odds with a system that values mediated settlements and shared parenting. Skeptical responses, accusations of parental alienation, and pressure to agree to unsafe arrangements exacerbated the effects of post-separation violence. Core themes in the women’s narratives of engagement with the family law system—silencing, control, and undermining the mother–child relationship—mirrored domestic violence dynamics, suggesting the concept of secondary victimization as a useful lens for understanding their experiences.

Résumé :
While there are many parent education programs in Australia, there have been few developed to cater specifically to the needs of migrant groups. Attempting to fill this gap, a parenting program was developed and trialedfor three ethnic communities. The program addressed key parenting issues found to be of relevance to members of culturally and linguistically diverse groups, including: intergenerational conflict arising from different acculturation rates; the protective factor of a bicultural parenting identity; knowledge of the school system; discipline options and child abuse laws; and how to gain support. The program was subsequently independently evaluated. Quantitative and qualitative information from both the process and outcomes of the program revealed that it was effective, particularly in fostering an understanding of the impact of culture on parenting, knowledge of the school system, non-physical disciplinary methods and child abuse laws. This study may be one of the first targeted ethnic parenting programs to be independently evaluated in Australia.

Résumé :
Summary Although a wealth of research exists related to children involved in the child welfare system, far less is known about parents’ experiences. Specifically, research is needed that examines the motivation for change of parents involved with the child welfare system in order to inform interventions with this at-risk population. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 33 parents court ordered to participate in a parent education group due to involvement with the child welfare system. Interviews were recorded and transcribed, and researchers used qualitative content analysis to examine parents’ motivation to change their parenting behaviors. Findings Participants highlighted how patterns from their family of origin, their own identity, and their current support systems served as motivation for change in their own parenting behaviors. Results were discussed using a social cognitive theory framework. Application Clinical implications include the need to assess at-risk parents’ unique sources of motivation for change and how current parenting practices may be encouraged or modeled from others. Doing so may improve engagement and retention in interventions meant to improve family outcomes.

Résumé :
Nur Hidayah integrated Islamic high school Surakarta is an educational institution that provides dormitories. Several years ago there were not as many students living as now. Nearly 80% of students live in guesthouses. This study aims to identify and examine the roles of supervisors (musyrif) on student achievement. This research is field research conducted by Integrated Islamic High School (SMA IT) Nur Hidayah Surakarta. This research is implementing interviews, observation, and documentation and then using a phenomenological and analytical approach. This study showed that this school tended to use democratic parenting. In educational institutions, no parenting style only uses one pattern, so in fact, educational institutions apply moderate parenting or combine all parenting patterns with a divided composition. The special role of the supervisor members (musyrif) at Nur Hidayah is to implement a home learning system. The special feature of this system allows students to be more intense to interact with the surrounding community. This system makes it possible for them to be prepared in real life. Given that intellectual intelligence is no longer the main thing, there must be a balance between social and emotional intelligence. Nur Hidayah's musyrif parenting provides opportunities and stimuli for students to be able to develop academic and non-academic abilities. Specific positive activities that exist in each type of Dormitory will support their development in learning such as taḥfiz, foreign language practice, and so on. Besides that, the composition of moderate parenting (combining three styles of parenting) that has been made in such a way will make fostering, supervision, learning, and education more effective and efficient.

Résumé :
This article draws from American research on ‘‘concerted cultivation’’ to compare the parenting logics of 41 upper-middle-class parents in Toronto, Canada. We consider not only how parents structure their children’s after-school time (what parents do) but also how the broader ecology of schooling informs their parenting logics (how they rationalize their actions). We find that parenting practices mirror American research. Upper-middle-class families enroll their children in multiple lessons and cultivate their children’s skills. However, unlike their American counterparts, Canadian parenting logics are not explicitly stratification oriented, guided by a desire to access elite universities. Canada’s relatively flat stratification system of higher education, where prestige differences between universities are minimal, prompts the emergence of a more expressive parenting ethos. Our findings draw attention to the macrofoundations of social behavior by articulating the connection between parenting logics and educational status hierarchies. We conclude by considering the implications of cross-national differences to theories of parenting and social stratification.

Résumé :
In today’s society, many families do not have children due to various reasons. The reasons include the pressure brought by childcare, and that double-income families do not have time to raise children, especially novice parents who will retreat. For this reason, we made a chatbot to solve problems. Through the questionnaires collected by our study, we found that most novice parents use INFANBOT when their children cry, thus, we used a baby’s cry as an example here. When parents face a baby’s cry, they can tap the button “burst into tears!”. The chatbot will immediately tell parents how to solve the problem. The authors designed a chatbot system named INFANBOT that combined the concepts of infancy health education to alleviate parents’ troubles at work and parenting. It also reduced the anxiety of caregivers during the parenting process and gave them correct parenting knowledge. The INFANBOT is a real-time system that can provide real-time services to novice parents. Additionally, when the user is using INFANBOT, the system will record the problems encountered and invite the user to fill in a questionnaire at an appropriate time to improve the system. After a preliminary study, we found that INFANBOT can solve most of the problems encountered by users. Statistically, all respondents gave above 4.5 points in the Likert-type five-point scale. Therefore, most respondents felt that INFANBOT could solve their problems effectively and quickly. The INFANBOT system developed by this study is designed to meet the needs of users. The system design of INFANBOT established in this study met the needs of its users and can help users improve their parenting troubles. This study also has positive effects and contributions to society: 1. After using INFANBOT, users can effectively improve their knowledge of children’s health education. 2. After using INFANBOT, users feel recognition of the professionalism of the health care knowledge provided by the robot, which can effectively improve the user’s parenting problems. 3. Most of the users are satisfied with the positive results after using INFANBOT, so novice parents and parents who feel anxious about parenting can quickly search for common parenting problems on the LINE community software.

Résumé :
The present research was aimed to identify the abusive family environment in disciplinary context for adolescents through analyzing the link between parenting styles, risk family factors, and experiences of abusive parenting in adolescent girls and boys. Study involved a sample of 300 school going adolescents with age range from 14-17 years. Physical Abuse Scale (Rizvi & Najam, 2014), Psychological Maltreatment Experience Scale (Petretic-Jackson, Betz, & Pitman, 1995), and Parental Authority Questionnaire (Buri, 1991) were used to measure physical abuse, psychological abuse, and parenting styles (respectively) perceived by adolescents. Findings of study revealed that authoritarian parents were perceived more abusive, physically as well as psychologically as compared to permissive parents; while authoritative parents were perceived as non abusive parents. Findings of regression analysis showed that authoritarian parenting predicted abuse potential; while, authoritative parenting predicted non abusive parenting. Moreover among family demographic factors, larger families and joint family system were appeared as significant predictors of abusive parenting. The present research might be an effort to spark the recognition of an issue that parents are perceived abusive by their children though they are practicing different styles of parenting to control their children. Future implications of the study were also discussed.

Résumé :
Abstract Objective Mindfulness is defined as paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally and these behaviors can be applied to parenting. Thus far, it is not understood whether mindful parenting (MP) differs in parents of children with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and how MP relates to other parenting practices and children’s self-regulation. Methods This study examined the relationships between MP, parenting behaviors and children’s self-regulation in 120 families with child ADHD (85% male; mean age = 11.93) and 105 control families (62% male; mean age = 11.98). Parents completed measures of MP (Interpersonal Mindfulness in Parenting Scale), parenting behaviors (parenting warmth, consistency, and anger assessed with the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children measures), psychological distress (Kessler 6), and children’s self-regulation (Social Skills Improvement System—self-control subscale). Results When compared with controls, parents of children with ADHD reported significantly lower MP. Higher MP was associated with lower levels of parent psychological distress, higher levels of parenting warmth and consistency, lower levels of parenting anger, and higher child emotion self-regulation in both groups. In mediation analyses, MP was indirectly associated with child emotion self-regulation through lower parenting anger, with the model accounting for 55% of the variance in child self-regulation. Conclusions MP is a useful construct for understanding parent behaviors, and children’s emotion self-regulation.

Résumé :
The current systematic review aimed to evaluate the variables influencing foster parents’ parenting stress, distress and parenting style, thereby supporting their adjustment and well-being as well as that of foster children. A PRISMA-guided search was conducted in three databases. Observational studies examining parenting stress, parenting distress (subsuming anxiety, depression and stress symptoms) and parenting style—all assessed through validated tools—were considered. A total of 16 studies were included, comprising N = 1794 non-relative foster parents (age range = 30–67 years). Results showed heightened parenting stress over time, both overall and compared to parents at large. Neither foster parents’ nor foster children’s socio-demographic characteristics significantly contributed to the increase in parenting stress; yet child-related stress and children’s externalizing problems were its main predictors. Foster parents’ couple cooperation was associated with reduced parenting stress. Moreover, the authoritative parenting style was associated with parental warmth, while the authoritarian style was associated with foster parents’ greater perceived burden, greater criticism and rejection toward the foster child. Evidence supports the mutual influence between foster parents and children. Foster care services should support foster parents’ needs within a concentric modular system, to ultimately provide better care for both foster parents and children.

In Indonesia, there are 1128 ethnic groups that can be divided into 2 according to lineage system, that is matrilineal and patrilineal. In patrilineal families, family name, property and others are passed down through sons. The characteristics of patrilineal families showed bias and favor towards sons. The goal of this research is to provide a description of father’s parenting style towards daughters and sons in patrilineal families. This research used a descriptive research method with Baumrind’s parenting style as the grand theory. The data collection process starts from April till May to 201 fathers using a parenting style questionnaire from Tarumanagara University’s Department of Psychology. The result of this research shows that 84.6% of the total fathers applied the same kind of parenting style towards their sons and daughters. These fathers no longer differentiate between daughters and sons. 92.9% of these fathers applied authoritative parenting styles to both daughters and sons. A small portion of the participant, 15.4% of 201 participants applied different parenting style towards their daughters and sons. These fathers applied authoritative parenting style towards their daughters and permissive parenting style towards their sons.

The theory of attachment underlines how traumatic experiences from the parent’s past—when stored in a dysfunctional way—can be reactivated in the parent caregiving system, emerging from an internal working model (IWM) of attachment that holds the memory traces of such traumatic events. This article presents a clinical case report of a mother who was referred to treatment because she presented strong depressive symptoms. Forty sessions were provided, consisting of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) to address maternal trauma issues and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for parenting skill development, debriefing, cognitive restructuring, and psychoeducation. The positive treatment results included distinct evidence of changes in the mother’s relationship with her child, and her mental representation of her caregiving system as measured with the Parent Development Interview (Slade et al., 1993).

Family is the first social environment where children can interact. It is in this primary institution that a child experiences parenting. Prolonged parenting will form a habit in children. Teaching good habits is very important to do since the beginning of a child’s life and education through habituation can be done by giving parenting to children or students. Parenting between families with one another are different. Many factors can influence parenting by the family. One of the factors that determine the shape of parenting is culture, so that among tribes and others have different forms of parenting. In providing parenting, the Gayo tribe is strongly influenced by the traditions and culture which they have. They follow to the patrilineal kinship system, which is a fatherly manner, and in principle, this system is a kinship system that draws the lineage of the father or male ancestors. Boys have a very important role in the kinship system of the Gayo tribe, boys are given an important place, because boys are successors and nobility. This such parenting is known as gender bias, because boys and girls get different status and roles based on sex (sex) and not based on their abilities. Keywords: Parenting, Parents, Child, Gender Bias, Gayo Tribe Keluarga merupakan lingkungan sosial pertama tempat anak dapat berinteraksi. Based on spillover and crossover models in the family system, we hypothesized the mediating effect of parenting style in the association between maternal work–family conflict (WFC) and children’s problematic internet (PIU). This is a cross-sectional study using data from the 10th wave Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC) in 2017. The study subjects were 707 mothers and their children. The WFC was measured using the Marshall and Barnett scale, parenting style by the Parenting Styles and Dimension Questionnaire developed by Robinson, and the PIU of a child by the K-Scale for adolescent observers. As a result, maternal WFC had a positive association with the PIU of a child. Maternal WFC also had a link with parenting styles. Specifically, WFC had a negative association with an authoritative parenting style, and a positive association with authoritarian and permissive parenting styles. Regarding the relationship between maternal WFC and the PIU of a child, parenting styles showed a mediating effect for authoritative (z = 2.08, p = 0.037), authoritarian (z = 2.71, p = 0.007), and permissive (z = 3.14, p = 0.002). Based on the results, we assert that when planning an intervention to reduce children’s PIU for working mothers, a multifaceted approach is essential, including both WFC and parenting behavior.

Résumé :
Childhood is an important period of individual psychological development, and parents’ company and parenting styles are highly significant to children’s personality cultivation and mental health. With the advancement of China’s modernization and urbanization, left-behind children without their parents’ company have become a growing concern. Compared with children raised by their parents, left-behind children are more likely to show social maladaptation and mental health problems. This study explored the mediating effects of left-behind children’s dual mode of self-control between caregivers’ parenting styles and emotional and behavioral problems (EBPs). In this study, 469 left-behind children in senior classes of primary schools were investigated by adopting the caregivers’ parenting styles questionnaire of left-behind children, the dual-mode of self-control scale and the strengths and difficulties questionnaire. This study found that (1) the protective and risk factors for caregivers’ parenting styles not only directly affected EBP, but also affected it through the mediating effect of the dual-mode of self-control, and (2) the mediating effect of the impulsive system was significantly greater than that of the control system. This study confirmed that caregivers’ parenting styles had an important impact on left-behind children’s psychological growth: positive parenting styles not only directly reduced the risk of EBP, but also indirectly improved left-behind children’s mental health by promoting their level of self-control; negative parenting styles directly increased the risk of EBP and indirectly affected left-behind children’s mental problems by enhancing their level of impulsiveness. These findings provide an important basis for reducing the risk of mental health problems and cultivating good personality qualities of left-behind children.

Résumé :
Abnormal patterns of sympathetic- and parasympathetic-linked cardiac activity and reactivity are observed among externalizing children and mark deficiencies in central nervous system regulation of behavior and emotion. Although changes in these biomarkers have been observed following treatment, mechanisms remain unexplored. We used MEMORE—a new approach to analyzing intervening variable effects—to evaluate improvements in parenting as mediators of changes in sympathetic nervous system (SNS)- and parasympathetic nervous system (PNS)-linked cardiac activity and reactivity among 99 preschoolers with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder who were treated using an empirically supported intervention. Decreases in negative parenting (criticism, negative commands, physical intrusions) were associated with increases in resting respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and pre-ejection period (PEP) reactivity to incentives from pre- to postintervention. Increases in positive parenting were not associated with changes in autonomic function. These findings suggest socially induced plasticity in peripheral biomarkers of behavior and emotion regulation and underscore the importance of reducing aversive interactions between parents and children when treating externalizing behavior.

Résumé :
AbstractOver 50% of adoptions are transracial, involving primarily White parents and children of color from different ethnic or racial backgrounds. Transracial adoptive (TRA) parents are tasked with providing ethnic–racial socialization processes (ERS) to support TRA adoptees’ ethnic–racial identity development and prepare them to cope with ethnic–racial discrimination. However, unlike nonadoptive families of color, TRA parents lack shared cultural history with adoptees and have limited experience navigating racial discrimination. Knowledge of ERS among TRA families has centered on unidirectional processes between parenting constructs, ERS processes, and children's functioning. However, ERS processes in this population have complexities and nuances that warrant more sensitive and robust conceptualization. This paper proposes a process-oriented dynamic ecological model of the system of ERS, situating transacting processes in and across multiple family levels (parent, adoptee, family) and incorporating developmental and contextual considerations. With its framing of the complexities in ERS among TRA families, the model offers three contributions: a conceptual organization of parenting constructs related to ERS, a more robust understanding of ERS processes that inform how parents provide ERS, and framing of transacting processes within and between parenting constructs, ERS processes, and children's functioning. Implications for research, policy, and practice are discussed.

The dynamics of learning in everyone is influenced by many things. One of them is the parents' parenting way which have been gained since someone was born in the world. In this case, the parenting styles referred are the authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. Various approaches of parenting style are likely to shape a person's behavior in carrying out the learning process to the level of higher education called college students. Along with technological developments that take place, students carry out the learning process including of how a person has a tendency to behave in using an e-learning system. The user's behavior of e-learning systems referred to in this case are online individuals (individual self-learning online), offline individuals (individual self-learning offline), groups in synchronous (group based synchronously), and groups in non-synchronous (group based asynchronously). This descriptive study involved 486 active USU students as respondents obtained using cluster random sampling. Data analysis was carried out by a cross tab to explain a number of individual profiles based on parenting orientation and the tendency of user's behavior in the e-learning system, ethnic culture, and birth order. Distribution showed that the tendency of authoritative parenting was the user of an individual e-learning online system.

Résumé :
Background: The long-term effectiveness of parent training for children with externalizing behaviour problems under routine care within the German health care system is unclear. We report the 1-year follow-up results of the parent training component of the Prevention Program for Externalizing Problem Behaviour (PEP) for 270 children aged 3–10 years with externalizing behaviour problems. Method: Outcome measures included child behaviour problems (externalizing behaviour problems, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms and Oppositional Defiant Disorder symptoms) and parenting (self efficacy of parenting and perceived ability to solve difficult parenting situations). Data were analysed using multilevel modelling. Results: Comparison of the changes during the 3-month waiting and treatment periods revealed significantly stronger treatment effects on all outcome measures, indicating a substantial decrease in child behaviour problems and a significant increase in parenting due to treatment. At 1-year follow-up, initial treatment effects on child behaviour problems were maintained, while parenting continued to improve. Conclusions: Families whose children exhibited externalizing problem behaviour profit from PEP and improvements are maintained for at least one year.

It discusses the solid social science research that shows the harms to children raised in same-sex households. He says that in spite of this the child protective system (CPS), which seems to regard such things as spanking and free-range parenting as child abuse/neglect apparently does not view the harms of same-sex parenting to be worthy of investigating. Krason suggests that this is because of the ideological biases that characterize the CPS.

Objectives: We explored the literature to investigate the main results of research into the practice of co-parenting in families with an imprisoned parent. Moreover, we aimed to point out the theoretical approaches used to analyze coparenting in the case of parental detention and the methods by which co-parenting is recognized and measured. Method: We used the EBSCO platform to explore the databases PsycINFO and Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection.First, we researched parenting OR co-parenting AND (incarcerated mother OR incarcerated father); the next search was for family AND (incarceration OR prison OR jail). Then we searched for fathers OR mothers AND (incarceration OR prison OR jail), and the final search attempt was for wives OR partners OR husbands AND (incarceration OR prison OR jail). Results: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we selected 14 studies for this literature review. Conclusions: The number of studies about co-parenting in families dealing with parental detention is limited. Most of what is known about the co-caregiving system or alliance and children's adjustment has come from studies of families with young children. The methodological procedures used to explore the relationships between incarcerated parents, children, and home caregivers were individually focused. What emerged from this literature review is the need to recognize the triadic nature of family relationships and therefore the need to adopt procedures that would allow us to analyze the triadic processes characterizing a family system.

AbstractAn association has been found between receipt of harsh parenting in childhood and adult health problems. However, this research has been principally retrospective, has treated children as passive recipients of parental behavior, and has overlooked individual differences in youth responsivity to harsh parenting. In a 10-year multiple-wave prospective study of African American families, we addressed these issues by focusing on the influence of polymorphisms in the oxytocin receptor gene (OXTR), variants of which appear to buffer or amplify responses to environmental stress. The participants were 303 youths, with a mean age of 11.2 at the first assessment, and their parents, all of whom were genotyped for variations in the rs53576 (A/G) polymorphism. Teachers rated preadolescent (ages 11 to 13) emotionally intense and distractible temperaments, and adolescents (ages 15 and 16) reported receipt of harsh parenting. Allostatic load was assessed during young adulthood (ages 20 and 21). Difficult preadolescent temperament forecast elevated receipt of harsh parenting in adolescence, and adolescents who experienced harsh parenting evinced high allostatic load during young adulthood. However, these associations emerged only among children and parents who carried A alleles of the OXTR genotype. The results suggest the oxytocin system operates along with temperament and parenting to forecast young adults’ allostatic load.

Using descriptive phenomenological design, 20 Somali families in Seattle, Washington, were interviewed. Interview transcripts were then analyzed using steps outlined by Colaizzi. The overarching theme that emerged was “Parenting: A Balancing Act,” which represents Somali parents trying to balance traditional cultural values and parenting traditions with dominant cultural expectations. Participants expressed fear of losing their children to American lifestyle choices, such as drugs or gangs, and misuse of the American system to turn on their parents. Parents also acknowledged the benefits of access to education and health care for children. To cope with the stressors of their new life, participants sought to preserve traditional cultural and religious values, thus strengthening their Somali community.

Résumé :
The family is the first educational environment for children, because in this environment the child first gets education and guidance from both parents. Education in the family does not have the curriculum as usual as in schools in general, the family environment is believed to be a strong foundation for children's education, because children are born and raised in the family environment. Therefore, it is a good time to instill the values of character, character, and good behavior from parents to their children. Thus it is clear that the first and foremost person responsible (parenting) for the survival and education of children is the parent. The family environment must give full role to the development of the family to provide a comprehensive and sustainable education system. Parents (parents) must provide for both biological and psycholytic needs for their children, and educate and guide in religious spiritual life so that children become resilient and can live in the midst of society. There are still parents who only understand part of the responsibility for raising children in the family. Therefore, it is very important for parents to understand and have the principles or the right way to educate and guide and raise children in the family in the middle of the Information Technology Gereration 5.0 community that is "real time access" in electronic transactions that operate with speed and high accuracy.

Résumé :
Several studies have highlighted the relationship between parenting styles and depression in children. The aim of this study is to ascertain whether there are differences in the parenting practices received by two groups of children who obtain low-risk and high-risk scores respectively in relation to depression and determine which parenting variables are linked with the presence or absence of this kind of internalizing problem. From a sample of 550 subjects, obtained by probabilistic cluster sampling, we selected 140 children between 3 and 12 years of age who met a set of specific criteria as having high risk scores (70 children) for depression according to the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) or having low scores in this variable (70 children). Then, the Parent–Child Relationship Inventory (PCRI) was applied to both parents. We carried out a binomial logistic regression analysis which resulted in a prediction model for 89.3% of the sample, based on the following parenting variables: limit setting and involvement from the mothers, and parental support, autonomy, satisfaction with parenting, and communication from the fathers. Finally, the usefulness of our results to plan intervention strategies within families of children with depression is discussed.

Résumé :
The preterm birth of a child is a sudden event that can disturb the overall family system and its functioning. Many studies have been conducted with the aim of exploring how and the degree to which this event affects the early mother–infant dyadic relationship and maternal well-being, with often mixed findings. The present study investigates the combined effect of preterm birth and parenting stress on mind-mindedness, a parenting dimension that captures how parents represent and treat their children as separate individuals with their own mental states and activities. A hundred and ten mothers and their three-month-old infants (preterm = 54; full-term = 56) participated in the study. Mind-mindedness was assessed by coding mothers’ comments about infant’s mental states during dyadic face-to-face interaction. Parenting stress was evaluated with the Parenting Stress Index Short Form questionnaire. Mothers of preterm infants reported similar levels of appropriate and non-attuned mind-related comments to mothers of full-term infants. The reported parenting stress levels were also comparable. Interestingly, only mothers of preterm infants who reported higher stress in parenting showed more non-attuned comments during the interaction. The results underline the need to address preterm birth as a complex event, going beyond group differences and considering its interplay with other risk or protective factors in shaping children’s and parents’ adjustments and well-being.
