C60 is a new form of molecular carbone, the study of C60's physical andchemical character property has received a lot of attention in chemistry.A character property of Fullerene is their affinity to various molecules.Fullerene(C60) coated piezoelectric quartz crystal membrane sensor with ahome-made microcomputer interface for singal acquisition and data processingwas prepared as gas detector to detect organic vapours adsorbed on C60/quartzmembrane. In this study, the affinity of C60 to organic molecules with various function group,e.g. aldehydes(RCHO),ketones(RCOR),acids(RCOOH),amines(RNH2), alcohols(ROH)was investigated.Effects of carbon chain, steric isomers and function group on adsorptions and frequency responses were also investigated and discussed. The reversibility of frequency response curve and IR spectrum were utilized to identifythe incorporate behaviors between C60 and these organic molecules. The interaction between C60 and organic molecule may be physical adsorption or chemical adsorption. The selecticity order of C60 for various organic molecules seems to be in th cal adsorptionon C60 piezoelectric membrance while physial adsorption is found in all another cases. The adsorbed ability on C60 membrane of alkyne is much greater than alkenes or alkanes. The C60 pizoelectric sensor also showed discrimination to n- butylamine and its isomers. The adsorption of bifunction group molecule (e.g. 1,2-ethandithiol,aethyenediamine) onC60 seems to be greater than that of monofunction group molecules , e.g. ethanthiol andethylamine. The adsorption of 1,3-diene which maybe undergoes than mono-alkene, such as hexene. The investigation of molecular adsorption on C60 with the piezoelectric detectionsystem could be a reference index for chemical interaction of fullerence and o-rganic molecules. The interaction between ozone(O3) and C60 was also investigated with the C60 coated piezoelectric crystal detection system. The violate reactionbetween O3 and C60 with a structural change was observed. In addition, the prese-nce of O3 seemed to lead to the improvement of the adsorption of some polar organic molecules such as acetone and alcohols.
