We have investigated with the pulsed ESR technique at X- and Q-band frequencies the coherence and relaxation of Cu spins S = 1/2 in single crystals of diamagnetically diluted mononuclear [n-Bu4N]2[Cu(opba)] (1%) in the host lattice of [n-Bu4N]2[Ni(opba)] (99%, opba = o-phenylenebis(oxamato)) and of diamagnetically diluted mononuclear [n-Bu4N]2[Cu(opbon-Pr2)] (1%) in the host lattice of [n-Bu4N]2[Ni(opbon-Pr2)] (99%, opbon-Pr2 = o-phenylenebis(N(propyl)oxamidato)). For that we have measured the electron spin dephasing time T m at different temperatures with the two-pulse primary echo and with the special Carr–Purcell–Meiboom–Gill (CPMG) multiple microwave pulse sequence. Application of the CPMG protocol has led to a substantial increase of the spin coherence lifetime in both complexes as compared to the primary echo results. It shows the efficiency of the suppression of the electron spin decoherence channel in the studied complexes arising due to spectral diffusion induced by a random modulation of the hyperfine interaction with the nuclear spins. We argue that this method can be used as a test for the relevance of the spectral diffusion for the electron spin decoherence. Our results have revealed a prominent role of the opba4– and opbon-Pr2 4– ligands for the dephasing of the Cu spins. The presence of additional 14N nuclei and protons in [Cu(opbon-Pr2)]2– as compared to [Cu(opba)]2– yields significantly shorter T m times. Such a detrimental effect of the opbon-Pr2 4− ligands has to be considered when discussing a potential application of the Cu(II)−(bis)oxamato and Cu(II)−(bis)oxamidato complexes as building blocks of more complex molecular structures in prototype spintronic devices. Furthermore, in our work we propose an improved CPMG pulse protocol that enables elimination of unwanted echoes that inevitably appear in the case of inhomogeneously broadened ESR spectra due to the selective excitation of electron spins.

Nanomaterials are desirable for sensing applications. Therefore, MnO2 nanosheets and nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) were used to construct a ratiometric biosensor for quantification of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. The MnO2 nanosheets drove the oxidation of colorless o-phenylenediamine to OPDox, which exhibits fluorescence emission peaks at 556 nm. The fluorescence of OPDox was efficiently quenched and the NCDs were recovered as the ascorbic acid produced by the hydrolyzed alkaline phosphatase (ALP) substrate increased. Owing to the selective inhibition of ALP activity by 2,4-D and the inner filter effect, the fluorescence intensity of the NCDs at 430 nm was suppressed, whereas that at 556 nm was maintained. The fluorescence intensity ratio was used for quantitative detection. The linear equation was F = 0.138 + 3.863·C 2,4-D (correlation coefficient R2 = 0.9904), whereas the limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.013 and 0.040 μg/mL. The method was successfully employed for the determination of 2,4-D in different vegetables with recoveries of 79%~105%. The fluorescent color change in the 2,4-D sensing system can also be captured by a smartphone to achieve colorimetric detection by homemade portable test kit.

After the placebo-controlled extension of the pivotal US trial of glatiramer acetate for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis ended, 208 participants entered an open-label, long-term treatment protocol. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was added to the planned evaluations of these subjects to determine the consequences of long-term treatment on MRI-defined pathology and evaluate its clinical correlates. Of the 147 subjects that remained on long-term follow-up, adequate images were obtained on 135 for quantitative MRI analysis. The initial imaging sessions were performed between June 1998 and January 1999 at 2447+61 days (mean+standard deviation) after the subject's original randomization. Clinical data from a preplanned clinical visit were matched to MRI within 3+51 days. At imaging, 66 patients originally randomized to placebo (oPBO) in the pivotal trial had received glatiramer acetate for 1476+63 days, and 69 randomized to active treatment with glatiramer acetate (oGA) were on drug for 2433+59 days. The number of documented relapses in the 2 years prior to entering the open-label extension was higher in the group originally randomized to placebo (oPBO=1.86+1.78, oGA=1.03+1.28; P=0.002). The annualized relapse rate observed during the open-label study was similar for both groups (oPBO=0.27, +0.45 oGA=0.28+0.40), but the reduction in rate from the placebo-controlled phase was greater for those beginning therapy with GA (oPBO reduced by 0.66+0.71, oGA reduced by 0.23+0.58; P=0.0002). One or more gadolinium enhancing lesions were found in 27.4% of all patients (number of distinct enhancements=1.16+2.52, total enhanced tissue volume=97+26 ml). The risk of having an enhancement was higher in those with relapses during the open-label extension (odds ratio 4.65, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.0 to 10.7; P=0.001). The odds for finding an enhancement was 2.5 times higher for those patients originally randomized to placebo (CI 1.1 to 5.4; P=0.02) compared to those always on glatiramer acetate. MRI-metrics indicative of chronic pathology, particularly measures of global cerebral tissue loss (atrophy), were uniformly worse for those originally on placebo. These observations enrich our long-term follow up of the clinical consequences of treatment with glatiramer acetate to include its apparent effects on MRI-defined pathology. They show that the effect of glatiramer acetate on enhancements is definite, but modest, consistent with the drug's described mechanisms of action, and that a delay in initiating treatment results in progression of MRI-measured pathology that can be prevented.

Then the macrostructural relations, the argument and the pragmatics of Galatians are analysed. Two main sections are identified, the first (Galatians 1:11-4:11) consisting of a double argument for the legitimacy of Paul's gospel, the second (4:12-6:10) being an appeal concentrating on Christian freedom.

This work suggested that Cu2+ ion coordinated by the peptide with a histidine (His or H) residue in the first position from the free N-terminal reveals oxidase-mimicking activity. A biotinylated polymer was prepared by modifying His residues on the side chain amino groups of lysine residues (denoted as KH) to chelate multiple Cu2+ ions. The resulting biotin-poly-(KH-Cu)20 polymer with multiple catalytic sites was employed as the signal label for immunoassay. Prostate specific antigen (PSA) was determined as the model target. The captured biotin-poly-(KH-Cu)20 polymer could catalyze the oxidation of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to produce fluorescent 2,3-diaminophenazine (OPDox). The signal was proportional to PSA concentration from 0.01 to 2 ng/mL, and the detection limit was found to be eight pg/mL. The high sensitivity of the method enabled the assays of PSA in real serum samples. The work should be valuable for the design of novel biosensors for clinical diagnosis.

Résumé :

This paper proposes a method based on a new word embedding approach for matching business process model. The proposed method aligns two process models in four steps. First activity labels are extracted and pre-processed to remove meaningless words, then each word composing an activity label and using a semantic similarity metric based on WordNet is represented with an n-dimensional vector in the space of the vocabulary of the two labels to be compared. Based on these representations, a vector representation of each activity label is computed by averaging the vectors representing words found in the activity label. Finally, the two activity labels are reported as similar if their similarity score computed using the cosine metric is greater than some predefined threshold. An experiment was conducted on well-known dataset to assess the performance of the proposed method. The results showed that the proposed method shared the first place with RMM/NHCM and OPBOT tools and can be effective in matching process models.

Pastoral care for the objectors and the impatient: a church growth perspective The aim of this article is to develop a pastoral theological perspective to a recent pastoral problem. This problem is the growing polarization within churches (with the focus on the Dutch Reformed Church) in South Africa today due to theological, church policy, social, economical and political factors. These factors are outlined and analysed systematically. Special attention is paid to the two poles - the objectors and the impatient. The "objector" is described as the church member who experiences an increasing concern and impasse with the church regarding new directions that are followed, and which are not correct according to his convictions and perceptions. The "impatient" is described as a church member who experiences an Increasing impasse with the church because according to him the church is not going far enough in concretizing the full consequences of church policy (as spelled out in Church and Society for example). The nature, symptoms and needs of both are examined and guidelines for a directed pastoral care are proposed.

In die historiografie van die Anglo-Boereoorlog (1899–1902) het die vooroorlogse bestuur van Britse onderdane wat historiese, kulturele en bloed bande met die republieke gehad het tot dusver min aandag geniet. In die lig hiervan, word in die artikel die bestuur deur die Kolonie van Natal van hul Afrikaner onderdane, in die opbou tot die oorlog, onder die loep geneem. Deur gebruik te maak van ‘n teoretiese raamwerk met lojaliteit as ‘n fokus word die bestuur van Natal Afrikaners deur die Natalse owerhede in terme van vuurwapen besit; betrokkenheid in die militêre magte en algemene optrede, ondersoek. Hoewel Natal Afrikaners, in die algemeen slegs dislojaal in woord en denke en nie in daad was nie, het die Natalse owerhede dit anders beskou. Vir laasgenoemde was ‘n simpatieke lojaliteit teenoor die republieke niks anders as ‘n dislojaliteit teenoor die Natalse en imperiale owerhede nie. As gevolg daarvan, ondanks die feit dat min bewyse daarvoor bestaan het, is Natal Afrikaners in die aanloop tot die oorlog deur hul regering gewantrou en met die uitbreek van die oorlog versaak.

A novel compact output power combiner for broadband Doherty Power Amplifiers is proposed in this paper. The proposed output power combiner avoids the use of quarter-wave impedance transformers as they are sizable and work over narrow bandwidths. Instead, the proposed combiner utilizes a distributed Brune Section to implement a compact broadband impedance inverter. The final area of the proposed output combiner is λ2/48. When compared to the conventional broadband Doherty structure, which has an approximate area of λ2/16, this structure offers an approximate size reduction of 67%. The proposed combiner is verified by using it in the design of a broadband Doherty power amplifier with an operating bandwidth of 1.7 GHz to 3.4 GHz. The saturated output power varies from 39.2 to 40.4 dBm with a peak power drain efficiency ranging from 58% to 66%. The drain efficiency at 6 dB Output Power Back-Off (OPBO) varies from 37.4% to 45% over an octave.

In this article, a Ka-band broadband analog predistortion (APD) microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) with independent tunability based on a 0.15 μm GaAs pHEMT process is proposed, which can be cascaded in front of traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTAs) to improve their linearity. The influence of different diode sizes on the parameters of Schottky diodes is analyzed and used to design the gain and phase nonlinear branches. The broadband APD MMIC is realized based on a dual-branch vector synthesis design and nonlinear frequency adjust module (NFAM). The independent tunability and broadband characteristics of the APD MMIC are verified by simulated and measured results with an error of less than 5%. Furthermore, a Ka-band 60 W TWTA is linearized by the APD MMIC, and the gain and phase compressions are reduced from 8 dB and 50° to within 3 dB and 12°, respectively. The third-order intermodulation (C/IM3) is greater than 28 dBc and noise power ratio (NPR) is greater than 15.7 dBc at 3 dB output power backoff (OPBO) over the operating band of 25.1~27.5 GHz, indicating that the APD MMIC can improve the nonlinearity of TWTA effectively under broadband signals.

Infection with Staphylococcus aureus has been considered a major problem in hospitals. The clinical importance of S. aureus isattributed to notable virulence factors and genetic diversity. The objective of this study therefore was to investigate the distribution of S, aureus virulence gene anddifferent genotypesin some isolates obtained from clinical samples from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti. A total of 25 isolates were screened for the presence of 16SrRNA,GeIE and asaIvirulence genes using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).Virulence genes 16SrRNA, gelE, asaI) formed clusters in S. aureus isolates used in this study. 16SrRNA was absence in 5 of the isolates and only present in 21 of the isolates. GeIE virulence gene was absence in 2 of the isolates and present in 23 of the isolates. AsaI virulence gene was absence in 7 of the isolates and present in 18 of the isolates. Virulence diversity was observed among isolates. Which could be used as a guide to the pathogenicity of individual isolates and hence control spread of infection.The genetic typing was carried out by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD-PCR) using OPBO8, OPHO4, OPH03, OPBO5, and OPT12 Primers. Also there exist different genotypes among the S. aureus isolates used in this study revealing high level of genetic diversity occurrence among S. aureus isolates. The DNA fingerprint revealed high genetic diversity among isolates irrespective of their sources. Further work could be done considering the antibiotic resistant gene and also sequencing of virulence gene clusters peculiar to S. aureus pathogens.

In this article current definitions of congregation building (church growth) in the ranks of the Gereformeerde Kerke in Suid-Afrika are described. Several contributions of Reformed ("Gereformeerde”) theologians concerning these definitions are considered and evaluated. The possibility of different points of departure is discussed. In conclusion, several suggestions concerning a definition of congregation building are made for future consideration.

Résumé :

The basic issues dealt with in this article include the investigation of data in the epistle to the Colossians regarding human subjects in building up the congregation. In the analysis of material, special attention is given to the following aspects: the imperatives underlying the building up of the congregation, the use of building-up metaphors in this epistle, the role of the epistle itself as written by an apostle as a medium of edification. In the last instance, attention is paid to the function of human subjects in the process of building up the congregation. In the analysis the eschatological character of building up the congregation is dealt with. From the results of this investigation guidelines for practical application are given.

The aim of this article is to examine the distinct character of pastorally-orientated marriage counselling in contrast to psychologically-orientated marriage counselling. The conclusions arrived at is that whereas pastoral marriage counselling aims at the edification of the congregation certain other marriage enrichment programmes do not provide adequate Scripturally-founded perspectives. The inherent character of marriage as revealed in Scripture is considered and an attempt is made to extract certain guidelines for pastoral marriage counselling. The focal point, however, remains the edification of the congregation by the pastorate. Bearing this in mind basic outlines from Scripture are given within which pastoral counselling can function in practice.

Genetic diversity analysis is the prerequisite to construct breeding program in any crops. This study aimed to analyse the genetic diversity of existing garlic (Allium sativum L.) genotypes grown in different regions in Bangladesh using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Nine garlic genotypes were used in this study to find out the existing polymorphism using seven different RAPD primers. Total 53 distinct and differential amplified DNA bands were generated from PCR amplification where 40 bands (75.88%) showed polymorphic, and 13 bands (24.12%) showed monomorphic. OPBX-02 and OPB-06 marker showed the highest and lowest number of bands respectively whereas OPBX-02 showed highest polymorphic band. The Nei´s genetic identity among nine garlic genotypes ranged 0.8053-0.9966 and genetic distance ranged 0.0053-0.2166. The UPGMA Dendrogram segregated the nine garlic genotypes into two main clusters having one and eight genotypes in first and second cluster respectively. Highest (0.2166) and lowest (0.0053) genetic distance were found in BARI-G1 vs GC0027 and GC0012 vs GC0017 varietal pair respectively. RAPD markers used in this study were found useful tool for the molecular characterization and polymorphic study among the nine cultivated garlic genotypes in Bangladesh which can be used as a useful information for developing new variety.

The purpose of this article is to investigate the understanding of God by members of the Netherdutch Reformed Church (Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika [NHKA]), their liturgical experience and its influence on the development of a missional congregation. The world is currently in the midst of a wave of changes that have far-reaching implications for the church and, specifically, for the NHKA. In a changing world it is imperative that church members understand the value of the different metaphors of God as well as its value for the development of the missional congregation. From a practical-theological approach, this article aims to look at the influence of the liturgy of life on the development of a missional congregation.

The role of singing in the formation and building up of the community of faith. Faith is communicated through participation in various actions and rituals in a dynamic process of socialising into the Christian community. Worship is the prime locus for growing into the community of faith. The singing of hymns in worship is important for people to participate in the faith, to socialise into the Christian community and to strengthen the identity of the faith community. Flowing from worship and back, singing and making music, as gifts of the Holy Spirit, are relevant in all activities of the church: to celebrate, to proclaim the gospel, to teach the faith, to comfort and support people pastorally, to open up the opportunity for participation, to give space for communication, to reach out, to bring people together, to form community and foster koinonia – and in doing so, to contribute in building up the community of faith. The community of faith is sung into being. Making music and singing together therefore need to be a part of the encompassing program of a congregation and a church. Ministers need a thorough liturgical-hymnological training as a sound theological base for working with others in actively building up the community of faith through music.

Die werke reeds in besit van die US is aangevul met groot skenkings soos dié van Solomon Caesar Malan, J du P Scholtz en Maggie Laubser. Groot oorsigversamelings van oeuvres soos deur Christo Coetzee (150-stuks), Nel Erasmus (112), Johannes Meintjes (91), en Larry Scully (10) is bekom. Skenkings en erflatings is selfs ook van buitelandse versamelaars ontvang, soos van die Duitser. Peter Freund (uiteindelik ongeveer 100 drukgrafiese werke van belangrike Europese en ander kunstenaars van die vroeë twintigste eeu), en van 'n Nederlandse besoeker die nodige fondse vir die aankoop van 'n kopbeeld in brons deur Rodin. Met die aanstelling van 'n nuwe Direkteur in 2013 het drastiese veranderings mettertyd begin plaasvind. Die name en beroepswerksaamhede van die instansies (Sasol Kunsmuseum en US Kunsgalery) as die belangrikste onderafdelings van die US Museum het letterlik verdwyn. Só ook die oorgrote meerderheid van bogenoemde kunswerke wat blykbaar meestal weggepak bly. Die fokus het verskuif van kunswaardering, -bevordering en -navorsing na 'n polities gemotiveerde transformasie, soos ook blyk uit die US Museum se aanstelling van 'n kurator vir sogenaamde Navorsing, Dialoog en Sosiale Geregtigheid. Hierdie instelling behoort sy akademiese roeping ten opsigte van die uitstalling, uitbreiding, bewaring en ontsluiting van sy belangrike en eersterangse estetiese bronnemateriaal vir die hedendaagse kunsgeskiedskrywing in Suid-Afrika sonder twyfel te bly navolg. ABSTRACT The Sasol Art Museum of the University of Stellenbosch (US) was established in 1991 to house the art collection of the US. At the time the US was already in possession of art pieces from various sources through the years. This included art works donated by students, the Solomon Caesar Malan and Maggie Laubser collections, and the comprehensive collection of Prof. Jdu P Scholtz of South African, European and exotic works of art. During the time of Prof. Muller Ballot as the first Director of the Museum, the collection grew rapidly with outstanding works of art. A number of large collections were donated by prominent artists, e.g. Christo Coetzee (150 items), Nel Erasmus (112), Johannes Meintjes (91) and Larry Scully (10), while bequests of valuable paintings were received from a number of supporters of the museum. Funds were bequeathed by an overseas visitor to buy a sculpture in bronze by the French artist Auguste Rodin. A number of prominent collectors also made donations from their collections, including Peter Freund from Germany who donated about 100 graphic works of important European artists of the early 20th century. With the appointment of a new Director in 2013, drastic changes started to take place. The name of the Sasol Art Museum as the prominent part of the US Museum disappeared and most of the acquired art works were moved to the storage room. The focus shifted from exhibiting artworks, art appreciation and art historical research to political transformation and social justice, as shown by the recent appointment of a Museum Curator: Research, Dialogue and Social Justice. This institution should not forsake its academic calling and should continue to strive to promote the exhibition, expansion, conservation, and study of visual art works as an important and top-ranking source of aesthetic material for research in art history as a present day discipline.

Cosmology is concerned with the order of the universe and seeks to provide an account, not only of that order, but also of the mind or reason behind it. In antiquity, the cosmos was usually understood religiously, such that the cosmologies of the ancient Mediterranean world were either religious in nature or constituted a reaction to a religiously conceived understanding of the structures of the universe. The oldest form in which ancient cosmologies occur is myth, which, owing to its elasticity as a form, enabled them to be appropriated, adapted and used by different groups. In addition, different cosmologies co-existed within the same ancient culture, each having an authoritative status. This article provides an introductory overview of these cosmological myths and argues that a comparative approach is the most fruitful way to study them. Emphasis is given to certain prominent cosmological topics, including theogony (the genesis of the divine) or the relationship of the divine to the cosmos, cosmogony (the genesis of the cosmos), and anthropogony (the origin of humans within the cosmos). Although these myths vary greatly in terms of content and how they envision the origin of the cosmos, many of them depict death as part of the structure of the universe.Kosmologie het te doen met die orde van die heelal en wil rekenskap gee van hierdie orde en ook van die bewussyn daaragter. In die antieke tyd is die kosmos gewoonlik godsdienstig verstaan, met die gevolg dat die kosmologieë van die antieke Mediterreense wêreld óf ’n godsdienstige aard gehad het óf bestaan het uit ’n reaksie op ’n godsdienstig-geskepte begrip van die strukture van die heelal. This article explores the importance of the motif of forgiveness in the Gospel according to Matthew. It takes the arrangement (τάξις) of Matthew as an ancient biography (βίος) of Jesus as its point of departure for describing its ethics of forgiveness. The importance of the motif of forgiveness for Matthew is apparent from the relative frequency with which it is addressed in his Gospel and from the manner in which it is interwoven with his narration of the birth, ministry and death of Jesus. Thereafter the social-historical setting of the Gospel’s initial readers is briefly described in terms of the external (a growing schism with formative Judaism) and internal challenges (intrapersonal conflict) they faced in an attempt to understand the reason for the prominence of the motif of forgiveness in it. Finally, Matthew’s view of forgiveness is systematised by describing the different agents (God, Jesus and the disciples) of forgiveness in his Gospel. The article argues that the birth, life and death of Jesus as well as his words and deeds are integrated in a clear and compelling manner into Matthew’s ethics of forgiveness. For Matthew the confession that God had forgiven his people through Jesus, is the main reason why they are compelled to forgive others. Die motief van vergifnis in die Evangelie volgens Matteus. Die artikel ondersoek die tema van vergifnis in die Evangelie volgens Matteus. Dit neem die opbou (τάξις) van Matteusas ’n antieke biografie (βίος) van Jesus as vertrekpunt vir die beskrywing van die etiek van vergifnis daarvan. Vir Matteus blyk die belangrikheid van vergifnis uit die relatiewe frekwensie waarmee dit voorkom in die Matteusevangelie en die wyse waarop dit met sy vertelling van die geboorte, bediening en dood van Jesus verweef is.
