Résumé :
In view of the ground drilling of the N2206 working face in Shanxi Wangzhuang Coal Mine, the gas concentration is low and the extraction effect is not good. Fluent computational fluid dynamics software was used to simulate the ground extraction drilling position of the N2206 working face in the goaf (the distance from the top of the coal seam and the distance from the return to the wind). The numerical simulation results show that when the final hole of the ground extraction hole in the goaf is 16 m from the roof of the coal seam and the distance from the return air is 45 m, the extraction effect is optimal. The average extraction gas volume is 9.78 m3/min, and the average extraction gas concentration is 43.95%, the best extraction effect is obtained. After optimizing the ground drilling position in the goaf and combining with the site implementation, the maximum gas scouring amount of the extraction is 12.59 m3/min, which is 3.42 m3/min higher than the original. The maximum gas concentration of extraction was 63.54%, which was 28.82% higher than the original. After optimization, the gas concentration of the extraction is more than 30%, and the extraction effect is very good. Field application results further validate the reliability of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation results.

Résumé :
Organic photovoltaic research is continuing in order to improve the efficiency and stability of the products. Organic devices have recently demonstrated excellent efficiency, bringing them closer to the market. Understanding the relationship between the microscopic parameters of the device and the conditions under which it is prepared and operated is essential for improving performance at the device level. This review paper emphasizes the importance of the parameter extraction stage for organic solar cell investigations by offering various device models and extraction methodologies. In order to link qualitative experimental measurements to quantitative microscopic device parameters with a minimum number of experimental setups, parameter extraction is a valuable step. The number of experimental setups directly impacts the pace and cost of development. Several experimental and material processing procedures, including the use of additives, annealing, and polymer chain engineering, are discussed in terms of their impact on the parameters of organic solar cells. Various analytical, numerical, hybrid, and optimization methods were introduced for parameter extraction based on single, multiple diodes and drift-diffusion models. Their validity for organic devices was tested by extracting the parameters of some available devices from the literature.

Résumé :
This paper presents a succinct exploration of several analytical methods for extracting the parameters of the single-diode model (SDM) of a photovoltaic (PV) module under standard test conditions (STC). The paper investigates six methods and presents the detailed mathematical analysis leading to the development of each method. To evaluate the performance of these methods, MATLAB-based software has been devised and deployed to generate the results of each method when used to extract the SDM parameters of various PV test modules of different PV technologies. Similar software has also been developed to extract the same parameters using well-established numerical and iterative techniques. A comparison is subsequently made between the synthesized results and those obtained using numerical and iterative methods. The comparison indicates that although analytical methods may involve a significant amount of approximations, their accuracy can be comparable to that of their numerical and iterative counterparts, with the added advantage of a significant reduction in computational complexity, and without the initialization and convergence difficulties, which are normally associated with numerical methods.

Résumé :
This paper presents a new numerical approach for the full extraction of the coupling-of-modes (COM) parameters by stationary and eigenfrequency analyses in the finite element method (FEM). This is a fast method extracting from the results of static analysis and eigenfrequency analysis. It avoids the long calculation time of admittance frequency response analysis, which is commonly used in extracting COM parameters. In addition to the usual COM parameters (velocity, reflection coefficient, transduction coefficient and capacitance), the phases of reflection and transduction coefficient can be also extracted with this method. The proposed method was applied to different cutting types LiNbO3 with different types of thicknesses in a varying interdigital transducer (IDT). These examples show that our approach has great potential in extracting all the COM parameters of the Rayleigh SAW for all kinds of IDT structures. Therefore, it is a fast, accurate, general and full extraction approach of COM parameters.

Résumé :
In this work, a numerical approach has been proposed to estimate the five single-diode circuit model physical parameters of photovoltaic generators from their experimental current-voltage characteristics. Linear least square method has been used to solve the system of three linear equations to express the shunt resistance, the saturation current and the photocurrent as a function of the series resistance and the ideality factor. Two key points have been used to solve the system of two nonlinear equations to extract values of series resistance and ideality factor. The advantage of the proposed method with respect of existing numerical techniques is that use only two key points of the experimental characteristic and need only two initial guesses and does not use any approximation. To evaluate the proposed method, three PV generators data have been used to compare the experimental and the theoretical curves. The application of the proposed method provides a good agreement with the experimental.

Abstract In this work, an efficient non-invasive terahertz pulse technique is proposed and investigated to determine the thickness and refractive index of each layer in an optically thick stratified media. A closed form formulations are derived for simultaneous extraction of the thickness and complex refractive index of each layer with the help of primary reflected signals from the multilayered structure. The proposed technique is numerically tested using a full wave electromagnetic simulator and is experimental verified in the millimeter wave frequency range by utilizing the power peaks corresponding to the primary reflected signals. The numerical and measured results of multilayered samples under test are in good agreement with the reference data. The proposed terahertz pulse technique can be used for non-destructive testing of the multilayered system existing in various industries.

In this paper we present an original method for n-channel power MOSFET resistance extraction in the operation mode (RDS(ON)). The IDS=f(VDS) electrical characteristics measurements for the transistor and the Body-Drain junction are realized for the experimental determination and the extraction (by numerical analysis) of RDS(ON), respectively. Values of this resistance are extracted for different positive bias applied between the gate and the source (+VGS). Résumé :
Sandwich beams that are composed of laminated face sheets and aluminum pyramidal truss cores are considered to be essential elements of building and aerospace structures. In this paper, a methodology for the experimental and numerical analysis of such structures is presented in order to support their industrial application. The scope of the present research covers both the experimental and numerical extraction of the dynamic parameters of the sandwich beams. Vibration tests are performed while using an optical system for three-dimensional vibrations sensing. The in-plane and out-of-plane vibration modes can thus be examined. A detailed numerical model of the sandwich beam is developed, including an adhesive joint (an additional layer of material) between the parent components of the beam. The numerically predicted modal parameters (eigenfrequencies, mode shapes, modal loss factors) are comported with their corresponding experimentally-obtained values. The modal loss factors are predicted based on the strain energy method, for which a brief theoretical introduction is provided. The obtained experimental and numerical results coincide with good accuracy. The circumstances for possible model simplifications are provided depending on the solution objectives.

Résumé :
This thesis presents a numerical methodology to predict the noise and vibration characteristics of large power transformers. The approach, which focuses on a vibro-acoustic finite element simulation, has been validated by appropriate experimental measurements and is shown to identify both the local and global acoustic behaviour of a transformer under nominal operating conditions. Furthermore, analysis methods presented in this thesis have illustrated a transformer's complex vibration characteristics that result in elevated noise levels. An understanding of such vibration characteristics together with acoustic predictions will better enable transformer manufacturers to consistently meet noise emission targets set by customers and regulators.

Résumé :
Hard coal mining is characterised by features that pose numerous challenges to its current operations and cause strategic and operational problems in planning its development. The most important of these include the high capital intensity of mining investment projects and the dynamically changing environment in which the sector operates, while the long-term role of the sector is dependent on factors originating at both national and international level. At the same time, the conditions for coal mining are deteriorating, the resources more readily available in active mines are being exhausted, mining depths are increasing, temperature levels in pits are rising, transport routes for staff and materials are getting longer, effective working time is decreasing, natural hazards are increasing, and seams with an increasing content of waste rock are being mined. The mining industry is currently in a very difficult situation, both in technical (mining) and economic terms. It cannot be ignored, however, that the difficult financial situation of Polish mining companies is largely exacerbated by their high operating costs. The cost of obtaining coal and its price are two key elements that determine the level of efficiency of Polish mines. This situation could be improved by streamlining the planning processes. This would involve striving for production planning that is as predictable as possible and, on the other hand, economically efficient. In this respect, it is helpful to plan the production from operating longwalls with full awareness of the complexity of geological and mining conditions and the resulting economic consequences. The constraints on increasing the efficiency of the mining process are due to the technical potential of the mining process, organisational factors and, above all, geological and mining conditions. The main objective of the monograph is to identify relations between geological and mining parameters and the level of longwall mining costs, and their daily output. In view of the above, it was assumed that it was possible to present the relationship between the costs of longwall mining and the daily coal output from a longwall as a function of onerous geological and mining factors. The monograph presents two models of onerous geological and mining conditions, including natural hazards, deposit (seam) parameters, mining (technical) parameters and environmental factors. The models were used to calculate two onerousness indicators, Wue and WUt, which synthetically define the level of impact of onerous geological and mining conditions on the mining process in relation to: —— operating costs at longwall faces – indicator WUe, —— daily longwall mining output – indicator WUt. In the next research step, the analysis of direct relationships of selected geological and mining factors with longwall costs and the mining output level was conducted. For this purpose, two statistical models were built for the following dependent variables: unit operating cost (Model 1) and daily longwall mining output (Model 2). The models served two additional sub-objectives: interpretation of the influence of independent variables on dependent variables and point forecasting. The models were also used for forecasting purposes. Statistical models were built on the basis of historical production results of selected seven Polish mines. On the basis of variability of geological and mining conditions at 120 longwalls, the influence of individual parameters on longwall mining between 2010 and 2019 was determined. The identified relationships made it possible to formulate numerical forecast of unit production cost and daily longwall mining output in relation to the level of expected onerousness. The projection period was assumed to be 2020–2030. On this basis, an opinion was formulated on the forecast of the expected unit production costs and the output of the 259 longwalls planned to be mined at these mines. A procedure scheme was developed using the following methods: 1) Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) – mathematical multi-criteria decision-making method, 2) comparative multivariate analysis, 3) regression analysis, 4) Monte Carlo simulation. The utilitarian purpose of the monograph is to provide the research community with the concept of building models that can be used to solve real decision-making problems during longwall planning in hard coal mines. The layout of the monograph, consisting of an introduction, eight main sections and a conclusion, follows the objectives set out above. Section One presents the methodology used to assess the impact of onerous geological and mining conditions on the mining process. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) is reviewed and basic definitions used in the following part of the paper are introduced. The section includes a description of AHP which was used in the presented analysis. Individual factors resulting from natural hazards, from the geological structure of the deposit (seam), from limitations caused by technical requirements, from the impact of mining on the environment, which affect the mining process, are described exhaustively in Section Two. Sections Three and Four present the construction of two hierarchical models of geological and mining conditions onerousness: the first in the context of extraction costs and the second in relation to daily longwall mining. The procedure for valuing the importance of their components by a group of experts (pairwise comparison of criteria and sub-criteria on the basis of Saaty’s 9-point comparison scale) is presented. The AHP method is very sensitive to even small changes in the value of the comparison matrix. In order to determine the stability of the valuation of both onerousness models, a sensitivity analysis was carried out, which is described in detail in Section Five. Section Six is devoted to the issue of constructing aggregate indices, WUe and WUt, which synthetically measure the impact of onerous geological and mining conditions on the mining process in individual longwalls and allow for a linear ordering of longwalls according to increasing levels of onerousness. Section Seven opens the research part of the work, which analyses the results of the developed models and indicators in individual mines. A detailed analysis is presented of the assessment of the impact of onerous mining conditions on mining costs in selected seams of the analysed mines, and in the case of the impact of onerous mining on daily longwall mining output, the variability of this process in individual fields (lots) of the mines is characterised. Section Eight presents the regression equations for the dependence of the costs and level of extraction on the aggregated onerousness indicators, WUe and WUt. The regression models f(KJC_N) and f(W) developed in this way are used to forecast the unit mining costs and daily output of the designed longwalls in the context of diversified geological and mining conditions. The use of regression models is of great practical importance. It makes it possible to approximate unit costs and daily output for newly designed longwall workings. The use of this knowledge may significantly improve the quality of planning processes and the effectiveness of the mining process.

Résumé :
In this chapter, we propose to perform a numerical technique based on genetic algorithms (GAs) to identify the electrical parameters (Is, Iph, Rs, Rsh, and n) of photovoltaic (PV) solar cells and modules. The one diode type approach is used to model the I–V characteristic of the solar cell. To extract electrical parameters, the approach is formulated as optimization problem. The GAs approach was used as a numerical technique in order to overcome problems involved in the local minima in the case optimization criteria. Compared to other methods, we find that the GAs is a very efficient technique to estimate the electrical parameters of photovoltaic solar cells and modules. Compared with other parameter extraction techniques, based on statistical study, results indicate the consistency and uniformity of method in terms of the quality of final solutions. In parallel, the simulated data with the extracted parameters of method base with GAs are in very good agreement with the experimental data in all cases.

Résumé :
Abstract Increasing number studies were conducted to explore the heat extraction performance of the enhanced geothermal system (EGS). However, most previous studies ignore the wellbore fluid flow and heat transfer effects and the variation of water thermophysical properties. It is difficult to accurately evaluate the influence of each engineering parameter on the heat extraction performance of the system. Hence, based on the fully coupled wellbore-reservoir model, this paper explores the influence of formation temperature and engineering parameters on the heat extraction performance of the system. The effects of fluid flow and heat transfer in the wellbore on the system heat extraction performance under different formation temperatures is compared and analyzed. The effect of the injection temperature and flow rate on the system heat extraction performance is studied. Results show that the effects of wellbore flow and heat transfer on the system heat extraction performance increase with the formation temperature. Increasing the injection temperature will decrease the system pressure difference, but it also reduces the thermal power of the system. Increasing the flow rate will increase the thermal power of the system, but it also increase the system pressure difference. Introduction The middle and deep high-temperature geothermal resources in China are abundant. The Enhanced geothermal system (EGS) is an effective means to develop deep high-temperature geothermal resources (Xu et al., 2018). Water is the most common working fluid for the EGS due to its high heat capacity and thermal conductivity.

Résumé :
New Jack-up ships are built to transport offshore wind turbines from harbor and assemble them with the help of cranes on the ship at the site of installation. Every ship has four stilts, which can be lowered to seabed and jack the ship up. However, penetration and extraction the stilts at the harbor area could jeopardize the existing quay wall construction. In this paper two conceptual designs of foundations, which are used to improve the strength of the seabed in front of the quay wall, are investigated using numerical methods. Through soil exchange in open-ended cylinder or bucket foundation the strength of the seabed should be improved so that jack-up ships can dock directly at the quay wall and lower the stilts into the foundations. Three dimensional finite element analysis using a coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian method (CEL) are carried out to simulate penetration and extraction process. A hypoplastic constitutive model and the Mohr-Coulomb constitutive model are used to describe the filling. The studies of influences of geometry of foundations as well as the soil parameters on the bearing capacity of stilts and failure mechanism in foundations are carried out as the design basis of the foundations.

Résumé :
Abstract An experiment facility of parallel-foil turbine is proposed in this study. The flow field around foils at different reduced frequency, pitching amplitude and plunging amplitude is measured by 2D Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system. And the energy extraction performance at different motion parameters is analyzed numerically. The comparison between experimental and numerical flow field is conducted at different reduced frequency. The evolution of flow field and the aerodynamic force with different pitching amplitude and plunging amplitude are discussed. The effect of pitching amplitude and plunging amplitude on energy extraction performance is obtained. Results indicate that the pitching amplitude can increase the range and the strength of acceleration area by varying the pitching velocity and the effective angle of attack. The optimal extraction performance appears at 70°. Due to the increase in plunging amplitude, the energy extraction performance and efficiency increase gradually. The optimal plunging amplitude is 1.0. The pitching amplitude and the plunging amplitude influence the power output by affecting the vortex shedding and the flow reattachment in oscillation process.

Résumé :
Prior research has shown that the use of liquid-pistons in place of conventional solid pistons within gas compression technologies can significantly improve the efficiency of gas compression. The liquid-piston provides the prospect for a consistent and high rate of heat extraction from the compressed gas during system operation. Consequently, the input power requirements during each individual compression are lowered. To validate this concept, analytical studies of the thermal-fluids and heat transfer mechanisms during gas compression were performed. The analysis involved the development of a numerical model, using the finite-difference method, which simulated a single compression stroke and quantified the crucial parameters during compression. This model was utilized to obtain theoretical efficiency values and to recognize optimal system characteristics. The results obtained from the simulation indicated double-digit increase in efficiency with the introduction of the liquid-piston.

Résumé :
The DEM Breakline and Differencing Analysis Tool is the result of a multi-year research effort in the analysis of digital elevation models (DEMs) and the extraction of features associated with breaklines identified on the DEM by numerical analysis. Developed in the ENVI/IDL image processing application, the tool is designed to serve as an aid to research in the investigation of DEMs by taking advantage of local variation in the height. A set of specific workflow exercises is described as applied to a diverse set of four sample DEMs. These workflows instruct the user in applying the tool to extract and analyze features associated with terrain, vegetative canopy, and built structures. Optimal processing parameter choices, subject to user modification, are provided along with sufficient explanation to train the user in elevation model analysis through the creation of customized output overlays.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF TWO NOVEL CONNECTIONS WITH SHORT END I OR H STUB IN STEEL STRUCTURES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, mars 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/ijasc.2022.18.1.8.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
In this study, two novel steel connections are introduced by replacements in the conventional end-plate connection with an H-or I-shaped cross-section as a Short Stub Column (SSC). In the first connection, the SSC flange is bolted to the column flange, and the beam is welded to the stub flange. In the second connection, after welding the SSC flange to the column flange and welding the beam to an end-plate, the end-plate is bolted to the SSC flange. The flange and web of the stub are reinforced using horizontal stiffeners to transfer the beam moment. Stiffeners could be employed with various thicknesses and configurations such that the strength and ductility of the joint could be adjusted. In this study, the Finite Element Model (FEM) model of a conventional welded and bolted end-plate connection, subjected to cyclic loading, is primarily calibrated using experimental data from previous studies. After confirming the model's performance, the behavior of the two proposed connections, in comparison with it, has been studied. The hysteresis diagrams have been obtained for each case, followed by extracting the effective parameters and comparing them. The results show that the two Proposed Connections reduce the stress in the panel zone and increase the ductility compared to the previously confirmed end-plates. All the samples in this study satisfy the fundamental requirements for rigid beam-to-column connections, according to AISC.
