Résumé :
ABSTRACTA long-term radio frequency interference monitoring program is now in progress at the Ohio State University Radio Observatory. Current observations encompass the 1-2 GHz band, measuring the signal strength in each 150 KHz subband. Preliminary results show many strong and persistent signals, and wide bands in which no signals are detected. Daily and weekly variations appear to be correlated with periods of maximum human activity such as “rush hours”. It may be that aircraft reflections are causing many of the signals to be received, and that airline schedules correlate with “rush hours”. The program is being upgraded to automatically measure the direction of arrival of each signal, as an aid to further identify it. This directional information will also be used in designing rolled edges and side shields for the co-located OSU Radio Telescope, to further reduce its vulnerability to RFI.

Résumé :
Cooperative Extension has a long history of using radio broadcasts in educational programming. The Minneapolis, MN-based CBS affiliate WCCO Radio 830AM contacted the University of Minnesota Extension (UMNExt) in 2013 to reinstate an 8:00 AM Saturday live gardening show titled “Smart Garden”. After several years of doing the radio show, we wanted to determine the effectiveness of getting information to listeners, what people were doing differently because of what they heard on the show, and how much they used the Extension’s resources after listening to the program. After analyzing 410 responses to an online survey, we found 78% of respondents reported they frequently or always learned something new when listening, and 56% reported adopting environmentally important practices, such as pollinator gardens, less chemical use, better lawn care, water conservation, and removing invasive plants. We concluded that this educational programming was making a positive impact on consumer horticulture practices.

The article is devoted to the characteristics of the object of related rights of a broadcasting organization. The subject matter of the study is the legal regulation of this object in the Laws of Ukraine “On Television and Radio Broadcasting”, “On Copyright and Related Rights” of 1993, and the Civil Code of Ukraine whose provisions contained conflicts for a long time, and the Law of Ukraine “On Copyright and Related Rights” of 2022. The purpose of the article is to provide a comprehensive characterization of the broadcasting organization program as an object of related rights and to determine its relationship with the separate show of the broadcasting organization. The study was conducted using historical, comparative legal, formal legal, dialectical and logical methods. It is substantiated that a separate show, in case of a creative contribution to its creation, is an oral work (radio show) or an audiovisual work (television show) capable of copyright protection. Related rights of broadcasting organizations extend to a set of shows and other materials combined in the program but not to individual components of this program. This approach is also reflected in the provisions of the new Law of Ukraine “On Copyright and Related Rights” of 2022. It is determined that the program of broadcasting organization is not identical to a composite work since its legal protection covers the result of not creative selection and arrangement of certain materials but organizational and technical efforts to compose certain objects into a complete program.

We describe an on-going HST program aimed at determining the relationship between the nuclear black hole mass and bulge mass in spiral galaxies. We have selected a volume limited sample of 54 nearby spiral galaxies for which we already have ground based emission line rotation curves, CCD surface photometry and radio maps. We are now obtaining HST/STIS longslit observations of each of the galaxies in the sample in order to determine the nuclear Hα rotation curve at high (∼ 0.1) spatial resolution. We will use these data to measure the unresolved dark mass concentration at the nucleus of each object. Here we show the first results from observations of objects in the sample.

This study presents the results of an opinion pool among the users and residents of Mamirauá and Amanã Reserves in relation to the effectiveness of the communications broadcasted through the radio show “Ligado no Mamirauá” (Tunned into Mamirauá). This research was carried out between September and October 2004 aiming to support the planning of a new structure for this radio show, based on the perception of its main listeners. “Ligado no Mamirauá” has been broadcasted every Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. by Tefé Rural Radio Station for more than ten years. This research was conducted among listeners at the age of 16 or older, residents and users of these two protected areas. Semi-structured questionnaires were applied to gather opinions about what listeners consider the most relevant subjects, their evaluation of the information offered by the broadcast, their preferences of time shifts and days of the week for a new broadcasting plan. Besides these pools, data about their access to current means of diffusion and information dissemination (radio and TV), and about the conditions of the equipment used were also registered in the individual interviews. The analysis has shown that “Ligado no Mamirauá” needs to broadcast more clear subjects, related to basic local needs, such as health, education, citizenship, and to give opportunity to popular participation during the programs so to strengthen its audience, providing means to establish a participative dialogue about social and environmental development of the protected areas, yet informing more frequently the local opinion (throughout community participation in the radio program) about the work and research carried out by Mamirauá Institute towards the improvement of life quality in the local communities, and about their strengthening as social actors, responsible for the conservation of their own environment.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT We present the largest single survey to date of average profiles of radio pulsars, observed and processed using the same telescope and data reduction software. Specifically, we present measurements for 1170 pulsars, observed by the Thousand Pulsar Array programme at the 64-dish SARAO MeerKAT radio telescope, in a frequency band from 856 to 1712 MHz. We provide rotation measures (RM), dispersion measures, flux densities, and polarization properties. The catalogue includes 254 new RMs that substantially increase the total number of known pulsar RMs. Our integration times typically span over 1000 individual rotations per source. We show that the radio (pseudo-) luminosity has a strong, shallow dependence on the spin-down energy, proportional to $\dot{E}^{0.15\pm 0.04}$, that contradicts some previous proposals of population synthesis studies. In addition, we find a significant correlation between the steepness of the observed flux density spectra and $\dot{E}$, and correlations of the fractional linear polarization with $\dot{E}$, the spectral index, and the pulse width, which we discuss in the context of what is known about pulsar radio emission and how pulsars evolve with time. On the whole, we do not see significant correlations with the estimated surface magnetic field strength, and the correlations with $\dot{E}$ are much stronger than those with the characteristic age. This finding lends support to the suggestion that magnetic dipole braking may not be the dominant factor for the evolution of pulsar rotation over the lifetimes of pulsars. A public data release of the high-fidelity time-averaged pulse profiles in full polarization accompanies our catalogue.

Résumé :
Abstract Jupiter’s decimeter-wavelength flux density is dominated by synchrotron emission from magnetically trapped ∼5–50 MeV electrons in the radiation belts. Synchrotron radio emission remains the most useful diagnostic of the radiation belts, and a global picture is provided by ground-based observations. Monitoring of the long-term variations of Jupiter’s Synchrotron Radiation (JSR) flux density is crucial to understanding its relationship with the solar wind. The GAVRT (Goldstone-Apple Valley Radio Telescope) program operates two retired Deep Space Network (DSN) antennas, and as part of their K-12 program and Juno support, GAVRT has been collecting data to monitor JSR radio emission at 2280 MHz (13 cm wavelength). We present new results from 2019 August to 2021 December GAVRT monitoring observations. As viewed from Earth the JSR varies systematically (by about 10%) with Jupiter’s 9.9 hr rotation period, and our observations were typically much shorter than 9.9 hr. To estimate the daily flux density of JSR, we took advantage of recent progress in modeling the radiation belt, scaling individual observations by the predicted relative variation due to Jupiter’s rotation as viewed from Earth. We discuss the JSR variability from 2015 to 2021, combining our results with previous GAVRT data. Our new results show a marked decrease (∼1 Jy) in JSR flux density between 2018 and 2021, while earlier observations showed an increase from 2015 to 2018. These results are remarkably consistent with long-term variability shown by the simulations of Han et al. based on models driven by the solar wind ram pressure.

Summary: The paper examines the lexicon used by young Catalan speakers by studying a night-time radio program called Prohibit als pares (‘Parents Not Allowed’), which the station Ràdio Flaixbac FM aired during the period of Sept. 2003–July 2006. The show targeted mainly young people and dealt with topics such as love, sex, friendship, infidelity or drugs. The published materials manage to convey the no-holds-barred nature of the program, rendering the text very close to the hearts of young people, who identify with what is said. Precisely because of the specific features of the show and the accurate rendition of the actual words used by these speakers (and not, as stated, because of the spelling, morphology or syntax), the corpus allows us to describe the colloquial lexicon of young people today: what type of lexical mechanisms are used (loanwords, derivations?), to what extent these mechanisms pertain to the Catalan language or are otherwise borrowed or new, etc. [Keywords: Catalan, lexicon, teenagers’ language, word formation].

Résumé :
Aims. In the framework of the multi-wavelength and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) monitoring program TANAMI (Tracking Active Nuclei with Austral Milliarcsecond Interferometry), we study the evolution of the parsec-scale radio emission in radio galaxies in the southern hemisphere and their relationship to the γ-ray properties of the sources. Our study investigates systematically, for the first time, the relationship between the two energy regimes in radio galaxies. In this first paper, we focus on Fermi-LAT-detected sources. Methods. The TANAMI program monitors a large sample of radio-loud AGN at 8.4 GHz and 22.3 GHz with the Australian long baseline array (LBA) and associated telescopes in Antarctica, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa. We performed a kinematic analysis for five γ-ray detected radio galaxies using multi-epoch 8.4 GHz VLBI images, deriving limits on intrinsic jet parameters such as speed and viewing angle. We analyzed 103 months of Fermi-LAT data in order to study possible connections between the γ-ray properties and the pc-scale jets of Fermi-LAT-detected radio galaxies, both in terms of variability and average properties. We discuss the individual source results and draw preliminary conclusions on sample properties including published VLBI results from the MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments) survey, with a total of fifteen sources. Results. We find that the first γ-ray detection of Pictor A might be associated with the passage of a new VLBI component through the radio core, which appears to be a defining feature of high-energy emitting Fanaroff-Riley type II radio galaxies. We detect subluminal parsec-scale jet motions in the peculiar AGN PKS 0521−36, and we confirm the presence of fast γ-ray variability in the source down to timescales of six hours, which is not accompanied by variations in the VLBI jet. We robustly confirm the presence of significant superluminal motion, up to βapp ∼ 3, in the jet of the TeV radio galaxy PKS 0625−35. Our VLBI results constrain the jet viewing angle to be θ < 53°, allowing for the possibility of a closely aligned jet. Finally, by analyzing the first pc-scale multi-epoch images of the prototypical compact symmetric object (CSO) PKS 1718−649, we place an upper limit on the separation speed between the two mini-lobes. This in turn allows us to derive a lower limit on the age of the source. Conclusions. We can draw some preliminary conclusions on the relationship between pc-scale jets and γ-ray emission in radio galaxies, based on Fermi-LAT-detected sources with available multi-epoch VLBI measurements. We find that the VLBI core flux density correlates with the γ-ray flux, as seen in blazars. On the other hand, the γ-ray luminosity does not show any dependence on the core brightness temperature and core dominance, which are two common indicators of jet Doppler boosting. This seems to indicate that γ-ray emission in radio galaxies is not driven by orientation-dependent effects, as in blazars, in accordance with the unified model of jetted AGN.

Abstract We present Arecibo 327 MHz confirmation and follow-up studies of seven new pulsars discovered by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). These pulsars are discovered in a pilot program of the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS) with the ultra-wide-bandwidth commissioning receiver. Five of them are normal pulsars and two are extreme nulling slow pulsars. PSR J2111+2132’s dispersion measure(DM: 78.5 pc cm−3) is above the upper limits of the two Galactic free electron density models, NE2001 and YMW16, and PSR J2057+2133’s position is out of the Scutum-Crux Arm, making them uniquely useful for improving the Galactic free electron density model in their directions. We present a detailed single pulse analysis for the slow nulling pulsars. We show evidence that PSR J2323+1214’s main pulse component follows a non-Poisson distribution and marginal evidence for a sub-pulse-drift or recurrent period of 32.3±0.4 rotations from PSR J0539+0013. We discuss the implication of our finding to the pulsar radiation mechanism.

Résumé :
Critiques of antidepressants in public spaces such as print media, blogs, social media, websites, and radio and television programs are now commonplace. Such critiques typically center on issues such as the side effects and risks of antidepressants, overblown claims of effectiveness, the fallacy of the chemical imbalance hypothesis, overprescribing, and the availability of equally or more effective nonmedication interventions for depression. In this article, we employ a discursive analysis to show how online commenters fashion a particular counter-argument to these critiques. Prominent in this counter-argument is that only “real” depression benefits from antidepressants, and that a “one-size-does-not-fit-all” understanding of these medications is needed. We argue that, while this nuanced counter-critique contains features that make it difficult to undermine, it simultaneously embeds many unanswered questions.

Indonesia's creative da'wah media is developing along with advances in technology that have developed into an important component of modern society. Communicators can build da'wah on this foundation by presenting media in attractive packaging to facilitate distribution to the wider community. Da'i used to preach from the pulpit of mosques and other traditional places before spreading to television and radio. However, now there are many variants. Preachers currently use various means, one of which is social media, which is considered the easiest way to reach people. Nowadays, when it comes to social media, there are lots of influencers from artists, celebrities, or even young people who have creative ideas. These influencers give interesting presentations specifically discussing religious issues, either through Vlogs, Podcasts or Talkshows, which we usually do. Since the da'i's job is to encourage people to act in a good way according to God's commands, they are also known as influencers. The goal is to engage people but not force them, so you need to be creative and interesting. People won't immediately change their beliefs if you just show them kindness; instead, you will be educating them about the beauty of Islam. Therefore, preachers must be creative content creators (editors, layouters, designers). Preachers and media professionals can collaborate. Da'i can collaborate with celebrities and community leaders. Da'i can also collaborate with those in power. Keywords: Manages Programs, Media, Da'wah,

Résumé :
Background and context: In 2012, 560,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer (CXCA) worldwide and 266,000 women died of the disease: 86% of cases and 88% of deaths occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and two thirds of the cases are locally advanced. For locally advanced CXCA the evidence-based treatment is a combination of external beam radiotherapy with chemotherapy and brachytherapy. Five-year overall survival for all stages combined ranges between 60%-69%, depending on the case-mix and the treatment modalities used. Countries with no access to radiotherapy may only offer palliative treatment to women diagnosed with locally advanced cervical cancer. Any curative attempt for these patients should include the two components of radiotherapy: concomitant radio-chemotherapy and brachytherapy. Radiotherapy is also a cost-effective treatment modality. Aim: To show the contribution and impact of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the improvement of results of CXCA in LMICs. Strategy/Tactics: Through its various programs, such as the Technical Cooperation programs, the Human Health program and the Program of Action for Cancer Therapy, the IAEA is committed to address these disproportionate geographic incidence and mortality rates introducing, expanding and improving radiotherapy services, working with partners such as WHO to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment, care, and control through collective action in these countries. Program/Policy process: During the last six decades, the IAEA has helped in addressing the growing cancer burden, delivering cancer-related assistance to LMICs, with financial and in-kind support from member states, donors and partners. The IAEA assistance has been primarily facilitated through the deployment of robust radiotherapy and nuclear medicine programs, coordinated research activities, documentation system and quality assurance program. This has enabled many member states to establish safe and effective diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy capacity to provide treatment and higher quality care to many of their cancer patients. The Program of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT) is the IAEA's umbrella program for combating cancer and builds upon the above experience in radiation medicine expertise and technology. The WHO-IAEA Joint Program enable LMI member states to introduce, expand and improve their cancer treatment capacities and therapeutic effectiveness by integrating radiotherapy into a comprehensive national cancer control program. Outcomes: The IAEA provides tools for improving the practice of radiation medicine around the world. A fully implemented department (megavoltage and afterloading units, trained staff and quality assurance procedures in place) can treat up to 666 new CXCA cases per year, of which around 70% (466) can be cured. What was learned: Investing in radiotherapy can save lives!

Résumé :
Radio radiation has been detected across the Hertzsprung Russell diagram. We selected three objects with radio radiation (a semi-detached eclipsing binary V Crt, and two detached binaries WY Cnc and CG Cyg) that show magnetic activity. We made new photometric observations using a SARA 60 cm and NAOC 85 cm optical telescopes. Then, we obtained their orbital and starspot parameters by analyzing our light curves and published radial velocities using the updated Wilson-Devinney program. We revised the ephemeris information for V Crt and WY Cnc by analyzing the orbital minimum times. The orbital periods increased by 2.8 (±2.1) ×10−9 d yr−1 for V Crt, which maybe caused by mass transfer. The orbital periods decreased by −8.641(±0.004) ×10−8 d yr−1 for WY Cnc. Orbital period change for CG Cyg was also found and we used a third-body of M3 of 0.14 M⊙ and a period of approximately 59.20 (0.36) yr to explain that. We also analysed the possible second period oscillation of CG Cyg with a cycle about 18.31 (0.06) yr. The long period changes of WY Cnc and CG Cyg might be caused by magnetic activity or stellar wind, rather than mass transfer.

Résumé :
Abstract A new objective method to determine the height of the planetary boundary layer (PBL) is presented here. PBL heights are computed using the statistical variance and kurtosis of dewpoint and virtual potential temperature differences measured from radio soundings at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program at the Southern Great Plains (SGP) site. These heights are compared with those derived from lidar, also on the site, and with gridded model data from the North American Regional Reanalysis (NARR). A climatology of mean heights in the early (1800 UTC) and late (0000 UTC) afternoon from 2002 to 2010 is presented to show the effectiveness of the method. Future work using the new method include producing an observational climatology of PBL heights and understanding the aerosol loading within the PBL as well as a better understanding of the coupling between the surface and free atmosphere.

Résumé :
Abstract: Long Term Evolution emerged from the previous 3GPP system known as the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System. This technology is an entire IP-based network that provides an IP-based mobile content called the Evolved Packet Core. The main goals of LTE are to increase data rates, provide lower latency on the Radio Access Network, improve bandwidth and optimal performance. The LTE architecture combines a new basic channel called eNodeB with a single core called the Evolved Packet Core that provides access to both voice and IP data resources. Long Term Evolution (LTE) talks about a promising new invention that gives broadband internet access to the universe. Therefore, many test groups are trying to simplify their show. Shockingly, from now on, apparently, there are no open source simulation systems, which can be used to emulate high-density user platforms like India, which are unrestricted. Lack of a standard reference system for use by assessment students and researchers is a loss. To overcome this, we came up with a project that not only imitates LTE but can also be used to replicate any OFDM package programs such as LTE pro advanced, and was launched to provide a comprehensive presentation of the LTE environment. Our simulation project has been contemplated to reproduce uplink and downlink editing methods in multi-cell / multi-user environments, considering customer portability, radio asset development, reusable strategies, flexible balance and coding module, and various ideas that work best for aspiring students. researchers. Using simulation software and framework,After researching many simulation software we concluded that OMNet ++ would be the best suit for our project. We have used the Inet 4.3 framework in the required modules.

Résumé :
Abstract The present study regards the creation of a support model for access control and optimization of cargo loading at ports. It aims to minimize the deficiencies of port accesses and to optimize shipping rates, using an algorithm to create virtual queues and use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The theoretical approach and some of the data reported in this paper came from a master’s degree research project of one of the authors, through the Civil Engineering Graduate Program at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The port chosen for implementing the proposed model was the Porto de Vitória, one of the busiest transportation terminals in Brazil. Initially, a survey was carried out locally and the data collected were tabulated to be used in a simulator. The results show the effectiveness of the model based on the use of a simulation system (Arena®). The applied model helps to avoid traffic jams in the port area and also allows the automation of port access.

Résumé :
Context. TANAMI is a multiwavelength program monitoring active galactic nuclei (AGN) south of − 30° declination including high-resolution very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) imaging, radio, optical/UV, X-ray, and γ-ray studies. We have previously published first-epoch8.4 GHz VLBI images of the parsec-scale structure of the initial sample. In this paper, we present images of 39 additional sources. The full sample comprises most of the radio- and γ-ray brightest AGN in the southern quarter of the sky, overlapping with the region from which high-energy (> 100 TeV) neutrino events have been found. Aims. We characterize the parsec-scale radio properties of the jets and compare them with the quasi-simultaneous Fermi/LAT γ-ray data. Furthermore, we study the jet properties of sources which are in positional coincidence with high-energy neutrino events compared to the full sample. We test the positional agreement of high-energy neutrino events with various AGN samples. Methods. TANAMI VLBI observations at 8.4 GHz are made with southern hemisphere radio telescopes located in Australia, Antarctica, Chile, New Zealand, and South Africa. Results. Our observations yield the first images of many jets below − 30° declination at milliarcsecond resolution. We find that γ-ray loud TANAMI sources tend to be more compact on parsec-scales and have higher core brightness temperatures than γ-ray faint jets, indicating higher Doppler factors. No significant structural difference is found between sources in positional coincidence with high-energy neutrino events and other TANAMI jets. The 22 γ-ray brightest AGN in the TANAMI sky show only a weak positional agreement with high-energy neutrinos demonstrating that the > 100 TeV IceCube signal is not simply dominated by a small number of the γ-ray brightest blazars. Instead, a larger number of sources have to contribute to the signal with each individual source having only a small Poisson probability for producing an event in multi-year integrations of current neutrino detectors.

Résumé :
M2M is a concept and a general term for all technologies that enhance the communication and network capabilities of machines and equipment. It is a combination of different types of communication technologies. M2M enables all devices and users to share information, saving operation time and improving work efficiency. M2M is not a simple data transmission, but it is an intelligent and interactive communication between machines. Even if no real-time signal is sent, the machine will actively communicate according to the established program and select intelligently according to the obtained data. The communication system refers to the general term of the technology that completes the information transmission function. The modern communication system is mainly realized by the propagation of electromagnetic waves in free space or the transmission mechanism in the guiding medium. When the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave reaches the light wave range, such a telecommunication system is called an optical communication system, and the communication system in the other electromagnetic wave range is called an electromagnetic communication system, abbreviated as a telecommunication system. The purpose of this paper is to explore the study of wireless data sharing method for M2M mobile telecommunication systems in the 5G era. It is expected that the new algorithm will make the wireless resource allocation more reasonable and improve the resource utilization rate. The performance of the deterministic measurement matrix proposed in this paper is close to or even better than that of the random measurement matrix. The M-SP algorithm greatly improves the performance of the SP algorithm. The experimental results of this paper show that when the number of microbase stations is 10, the energy consumption of the direct algorithm is 175000 W, the energy consumption of the indirect algorithm is 350000 W, and the energy consumption of the direct algorithm is much smaller than that of the indirect algorithm.

Résumé :
AbstractInnovative work on close binary models in 2003-06 improved upon synthesized line spectra, line profiles, and polarimetry; developed new ways of parameter estimation; and increased solution effectiveness and efficiency. Recent applications demonstrate the analytic power of binary system line spectrum models that pre-date the triennium. X-ray binary line profiles and radial velocity curves were refined by solution of the radiative transfer problem with specific inclusion of X-irradiation. Model polarization curves were generated by Monte Carlo experiments with multiple Thomson scattering in thin and thick binary system disks. In the parameter estimation area, independent developments by two groups now allow measurement of ephemerides, apsidal motion, and third body parameters from whole light and velocity curves, to supplement the traditional way of eclipse timings. Although the new route to those parameters is not well known within the ephemeris community, there are accuracy advantages and the number of applications is increasing. Numerical solution experiments on photometric mass ratios have checked two views of their intuitive basis, and show that mass ratios are well determined where star radii and limiting lobe radii are both well determined, which is for semi-detached or over-contact binaries with total-annular eclipses. Solution efficiency and automatic operation is needed for processing of light curves from large surveys, and will also be valuable for preliminary solutions of individually observed binaries. Neural networks have mainly been used for classification, and now a neural network program reliably finds preliminary solutions for W UMa binaries. Archived model light curves and Fourier fitting also are being pursued for classification and for preliminary solutions. Light curves in physical units such as erg·sec−1·cm−3 now allow direct distance estimation by combining the absolute accuracy of model stellar atmospheres with the astrophysical detail of a physical close binary model, by means of rigorous scaling between surface emission and observable flux. A Temperature-distance (T-d) theorem specifies conditions under which temperatures of both stars and distance can be found from light and velocity curves.

In 1965, the first International Symposium on Glacier Mapping was held in Ottawa. This was convened at the beginning of the International Hydrological Decade, at a time of great expansion in glaciological research around the world. The purpose and scope of glacier mapping were well defined, perhaps for the first time, by the late Valter Schytt and others at the Symposium, It must be remembered that this symposium took place at a time when much of the technology we now take for granted did not exist. In some respects the symposium was prophetic: Gordon Robin suggested that the topography of the ice sheet might be measurable with an altimeter mounted in a satellite, and A.H. Waite, Jr. discussed the beginning attempts to sound glaciers using radio waves. Now in 1985 a Symposium on the same subject has been concluded in Reykjavik. It is apparent that the interest generated in the first Symposium has had a real effect, and some dreams have come true. Jay Zwally reported that repeated satellite altimetry has measured growth of part of the Greenland Ice Sheet, and sophisticated radio echo-sounding programs are adding the third dimension to glacier mapping. And glacier mapping has progressed in many other new and exciting directions. However, problems remain. For instance, only 20% of the Antarctic continent has been mapped at a scale of 1:250 000 or larger and what maps do exist of Antarctica were compiled over long periods of time and cannot be precisely dated. There are still few maps of remote areas in the world and these often lack geographic coordinates and captions in a language of common international use. The navigation or positioning systems used in many large-scale mapping programs have not been as highly developed as they should be. Much glacier mapping data now exists in digital form, but many of the digital data bases can not be accessed internationally. What are the needs for the future? First, we need wider application of digital data bases, including digital terrain models and geographic information systems. These should be set up so that the data can be retrieved by scientists from different countries, a difficult problem for parochial, technical, and political reasons. Attention needs to be given to long-term storage of digital data to insure against degradation with time. Once a good digital data base is established, the appropriate hard copy maps can be produced to whatever specifications are appropriate. But computers will not solve everyone’s needs. We certainly will need, far into the future, classical paper maps, the so-called “hard copy” that displays all of the information the field glaciologist or traveller requires. Public display maps that show the topography in an artistic way that is clear to the inexperienced viewer will always be needed. Of course, all maps should have geographic coordinates and a legend in an international language, such as English, to meet the needs of the international community. The quality of mapping will have to improve to meet tomorrow’s needs, This will include such things as improved definition of ice sheet surfaces, especially along ice divides so that flow patterns can be discerned. We need to integrate accurate positioning systems with the radio echo-sounding or other mapping systems. Repeated mapping of certain glaciers or ice mass areas, using similar mapping specifications, will be needed to detect change in these ice masses; such maps will have to be very precise in the measurement of surface ice elevation, We will certainly need “snapshot” maps of the large ice sheets, a task that can probably be accomplished only through the use of satellite technology. The field has come a long way in the last twenty years but it will probably progress far more in the next twenty. Résumé :
Atmospheric data obtained from the radio occultation (RO) technique are a well-recognized source of information for weather and climate studies. From the Challenging Minisatellite Payload (CHAMP) mission launched in July 2000 to the most recent Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate follow-on (COSMIC-2) program, a continuous RO dataset of about 20 years has been collected, and a new opportunity for long-term climate analyses using multi-mission RO observations has subsequently arisen. Therefore, assessments of the long-term homogeneities of multi-mission RO data have become a necessary research task. For this purpose, in this study, we identified systematic discrepancies between the RO temperature profiles from the CHAMP, COSMIC, and Meteorological Operational Polar Satellite (METOP) missions. The results show that the temperature profiles from all three RO missions agree well in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS, 9–20 km altitude) regions, while some systematic discrepancies are found in the lower troposphere (2–8 km) and the high-altitude region (21–30 km). The homogeneities of long-term RO temperature climatologies were assessed by comparing them with radiosonde temperature records. The results of this comparison show obvious temporal inhomogeneities in the lower troposphere. The reasons for these temporal inhomogeneities include the systematic discrepancies between multi-mission RO profiles, the different monthly numbers of RO profiles, and the residual sampling error. The results of this study suggest that the systematic discrepancies between different RO missions should be thoroughly considered in the development of long-term multi-mission RO-based climatologies.

Abstract The young, compact, very high surface brightness but low excitation planetary nebula (PN) BD+30°3639 is one of the very few PNe that have been reported to exhibit the 21 cm H i emission line. As part of a long-term program to search for circumstellar atomic hydrogen, we observed the 21 cm feature toward BD+30°3639 with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Assuming a direct association between the PN and the detected H i emission, these new observations show that this surrounding emission is significantly more spatially extended than indicated by previous interferometric observations and can be resolved into two velocity components. The estimated H i mass is larger than 100 M ⊙, invalidating an origin from the host star itself or its ejecta for the emitting material. We discuss the possibility that the extended H i emission stems from the interstellar medium (ISM) swept out over time by the stellar wind. Moreover, we report tentative detections of H i absorption features lying near and blueward of the systemic velocity of this PN, which are probably from a stalled asterosphere at the outer boundary of the expanding ionized region. The mass of the gas producing the H i absorption is insufficient to solve the so-called “PN missing mass problem.” We demonstrate the capability of FAST to investigate the interaction process between a PN and the surrounding ISM.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT While the majority of massive stars have a stellar companion, most pulsars appear to be isolated. Taken at face value, this suggests that most massive binaries break apart due to strong natal kicks received in supernova explosions. However, the observed binary fraction can still be subject to strong selection effects, as monitoring of newly discovered pulsars is rarely carried out for long enough to conclusively rule out multiplicity. Here, we use the second Gaia data release to search for companions to 1534 rotation-powered pulsars with positions known to better than 0.5 arcsec. We find 22 matches to known pulsars, including 1 not reported elsewhere, and 8 new possible companions to young pulsars. We examine the photometric and kinematic properties of these systems and provide empirical relations for identifying Gaia sources with potential millisecond pulsar companions. Our results confirm that the observed multiplicity fraction is small. However, we show that the number of binaries below the sensitivity of Gaia and radio timing in our sample could still be significantly higher. We constrain the binary fraction of young pulsars to be $f_{\rm young}^{\rm true}\le 5.3(8.3){{\ \rm per\ cent}}$ under realistic (conservative) assumptions for the binary properties and current sensitivity thresholds. For massive stars (≥10 M⊙) in particular, we find $f_{\rm OB}^{\rm true}\le 3.7{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$, which sets a firm independent upper limit on the Galactic neutron star merger rate, ≤7.2 × 10−4 yr−1. Ongoing and future projects, such as the CHIME/pulsar program, MeerTime, HIRAX, and ultimately the SKA, will significantly improve these constraints in the future.

Résumé :
The purpose of the article is to study information warfare as an instrument of geopolitical influence on Ukraine, the main aspects of this problem and certain elements of the Ukrainian side's response to the Kremlin regime's information attacks. To achieve this goal, the methods of comparison, analysis, synthesis and content analysis were used. The results indicate that the Russian side in the information warfare uses both traditional tools, such as the media, troll factories, bot factories, and fakes, and new technologies, such as deepfake. This arsenal is constantly evolving and adapting to technological advances. The Kremlin's main goal in the information warfare is to "undermine" Ukraine from within, creating the impression of close ties between Ukraine and Russia as a Eurasian state. Russian activities go beyond Ukraine, influencing public opinion in European countries, the United States and beyond. "Influence operations use social media platforms to spread individual narratives and sow hostility. To counter Russian influence, a program is being implemented to increase media literacy among the Ukrainian public. Ukrainian television companies are responding to the invasion by creating joint telethons that expand communication channels and counter disinformation. Individual tools, such as podcasts, are becoming important in countering disinformation. Ukrainian radio plays a key role in providing information in the occupied regions, and media literacy projects help to verify information and increase information literacy. Initiatives to develop media literacy and counter disinformation in Ukraine are widespread and effective. Results show that the level of resistance to propaganda has increased, and more than 70% of the population can recognize manipulative tactics. Government and civil society initiatives are working together to combat disinformation. Institutions such as the Center for Countering Disinformation and the Center for Strategic Communications are making an important contribution to the resilience of Ukrainian society.

Résumé :
Background MTV Shuga is an edutainment campaign designed to equip young people with knowledge, motivation, and informed choices to protect themselves from HIV infection. From 2019 to 2020, a total of 10 episodes of a new dramatic series, MTV Shuga “Down South 2” (DS2), were broadcast via television and the internet, alongside complementary media activities. Objective This study aims to investigate whether the intensity of DS2 exposure was linked with positive HIV prevention outcomes in a setting with high HIV prevalence and relatively low levels of HIV testing. Methods We analyzed data from a web-based survey of participants aged 15 to 24 years in South Africa in 2020. The survey was promoted via social media platforms of schools, universities, and communities in Eastern Cape, South Africa. The primary exposure of interest was the intensity of exposure to DS2, measured by the number of episodes of DS2 watched on the television or the internet or listened to on the radio (out of 10 episodes). Individuals who had not watched or listened to any DS2 episode were classified according to other MTV Shuga content that they had accessed. We estimated associations between the intensity of DS2 exposure and HIV-related outcomes, including knowledge of HIV status, awareness of HIV self-testing (HIVST) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), uptake of HIVST, and demand for HIVST and PrEP, adjusting for potential confounders using multivariable logistic regression. Results Among the 3431 survey participants, 827 (24.1%) were exposed to DS2. Specifically, 18.1% (622/3431) watched or listened to only 1 DS2 episode, and 2.4% (82/3431), 1.7% (58/3431), and 1.8% (62/3431) watched or listened to 2 to 4, 5 to 7, and 8 to 10 DS2 episodes, respectively. Increasing the exposure to DS2 was associated with improvements in most outcomes. Exposure to multiple episodes (eg, 2-4, 5-7, and 8-10) was associated with successively higher odds of knowing one’s HIV status, awareness of PrEP and HIVST, and uptake of HIVST compared with no MTV Shuga exposure, albeit with statistical uncertainty around some estimates. The interest in using HIVST or PrEP was high overall (>80%), with no measurable differences by DS2 intensity. Conclusions We found evidence consistent with a dose-response relationship between MTV Shuga DS2 exposure and outcomes, including knowledge of HIV status, awareness and uptake of HIVST, and awareness of PrEP among young people in Eastern Cape. This indicates that greater engagement with a youth-focused edutainment campaign can improve HIV testing and prevention options in a setting and population with high need. However, only a few participants accessed multiple DS2 episodes despite its availability on multiple media platforms. We conclude that there is potential to benefit more young people by increasing access to and interest in the show.

Résumé :
The article aims to introduce the corpus of broadcast media (radio and television), which was compiled in the framework of the project Lithuanian Language: Ideals, Ideologies and Identity Shifts to the academic community. The corpus includes about 63 hours of transcribed recordings from 1960 to 2010. The article discusses theoretical principles of corpus sampling, which were based on the criteria of time periods and genres; the methodological issues encountered when constructing the sampling scheme; shares the practical experience of selecting and gathering recordings to be included into the corpus; and presents the actual structure of the corpus. One of the main requirements for any corpus is its representativeness and balance. One possible way to achieve them is to distinguish objectively defined text types and to build the corpus along these lines. Thus the composition of the corpus of the broadcast media was designed on the basis of two criteria: periods of broadcast media development and genre. There are three periods distinguished: Soviet 1960–1987, transitional 1988–1992 and contemporary 1993–now. In respect of genre, three groups of programs are included: talk programs (further subdivided into the types of interview, debate and talk-show); documentaries, features and journal programs; information programs. The article discusses problems that were encountered when trying to implement the corpus along these lines: problems of availability of materials due to technological peculiarities of different periods and organisational factors of archive institutions; the issue of balance between the periods; the problems of genre comparability and different extent of diversity of genres in different periods, and continuity of genres. Finally, the composition and the size of the corpus are presented (63 hours of recordings, about 350 thousand words). The paper concludes that despite the limited availability of materials and other problems discussed above which is why the corpus cannot be regarded as perfectly representative and balanced, it is sufficient for research into public language change. This was confirmed by tentative research studies done on its basis. The corpus meets the usual technical requirements: the transcriptions have been made in CLAN software developed within the CHILDES project, the recordings have been transcribed, coded and morphologically annotated following the conventions of the CHILDES project, the speakers have been assigned individual codes, and the transcriptions have been linked to the sound/image files.

Résumé :
Radio is a public media that conveys the content of its message in the form of information, entertainment, news, and education by audio. In broadcasting, the Radio should have a program that suits the tastes of listeners, has excellent programs, and broadcasters who have their own privileges in communicating with their listeners, as is the case with this Fuad FM radio with some of its program programs that adjust the tastes of its listeners, besides that it does not forget to make its flagship show programs. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze radio broadcast programs in general. The motto used is a qualitative research method. The results obtained from this study show an in-depth analysis of the ins and outs of radio broadcasting, starting from the programs, strategies for creating programs, factors, and others. So, a broadcast program is everything that a broadcasting station displays in the form of sound, image, or sound and image or in the form of graphics, and characters, whether interactive or not, that can be received through a broadcast receiving device to meet the needs of its audience.

Résumé :
In today’s globalized situation, people on the one hand enjoy the great convenience brought by the Internet and artificial intelligence Internet of Things (IoT) technology, and, on the other hand, they are also inevitably subject to a series of harms brought by network technology. Internet economic crime is a new type of crime based on Internet technology. Criminals use Internet technology to conduct illegal visits and Trojan horse program attacks, steal user information, and defraud victims of money. This has resulted in the people’s personal and property safety and social harmony and stability. Strictly cracking down on cyber economic crimes in accordance with the law is of great significance to safeguarding the interests of the people and maintaining social stability. However, as the methods and forms of cyber economic crimes emerge endlessly, it is very important to collect intelligence information on such crimes. This paper proposes using the sensor technology, embedded system technology, radio frequency automatic identification technology, and cloud computing technology in artificial intelligence Internet of Things technology to design and build a data-mining-based network economic crime intelligent information aggregation collection system to realize network economic crime intelligence of aggregation and analyze and help combat cyber economic crimes. This article takes cyber economic crime cases in various cities in our province as an example, selects 9 cyber economic criminals’ intelligence information as sample data, and tests and applies the designed cyber economic crime intelligence information system. The final results show that the numbers of cyber economic crime cases in four cities A, B, C, and D in four provinces are roughly the same, but city A has the largest number; the minimum confidence of the 9 criminals is above 0.60, indicating that the economic crimes of cyber economic criminals are related to their academic background and family status and criminal history are related to a certain extent; illegal fund-raising fraud and online credit card fraud account for the largest proportion of the four cities and are currently the main forms of online economic crime.

Résumé :
In a brief paper at the first meeting of this series, Vorontzov-Velyaminov (1968) presented the first examination of the fine scale structure found in the Helix Nebula. At that time he used the term “filaments” to describe them, although the results of improved spatial resolution during the ensuing decades (Malin 1982, Meaburn et al. 1992, Walsh & Meaburn 1993) show that the term “Cometary Knot”(CK) communicates a clearer picture of their form. The most useful groundbased images are those of Meaburn et al.(1992) made with the New Technology Telescope, which showed that each CK has a characteristic form, composed of a central dark knot, accompanied by a luminous cusp on the substellar side, and accompanied by a thin sheath of luminous material extending from the edge of the cusp to large distances. Owing to their much higher density, the Cusps are of lower ionization than the nebula as a whole, so that one sees the central dark knots, which evidently contain significant amounts of dust, in silhouette against the background nebular emission. Radio observations of the CO line show that the CK are also sources of molecular emission (Huggins et al.1992). The groundbased emission line images show that the “tails” trailing away from the Cusps lie closely on radial lines passing between the Cusp and the Central Star. Although these objects appear to be diving towards the Central Star, such an interpretation is naive, as their form must be determined by a central repulsive force arising from the star, much as true comets in our Solar System may trail their tails behind while approaching the Sun but actually follow their tails as they recede from the Sun. We also now know, from yet another excellent study by Meaburn et al. (1996) that the CK as a group are expanding away from the Central Star, although this group velocity of about 10 km s–1 is about half that value of 21 km s–1 characteristic of the nebula as a whole (Taylor 1977,Terrett 1979). The greatest breakthrough in imaging was the Hubble Space Telescope's WFPC2 (O'Dell & Handron 1996, hereafter O&H) program on a single field of view (FOV) in the north ring of the Helix in Hα, [NII], and [OIII]. One year later the same field was reimaged in [OI] and with the f547m filter, the newer observations allowing calibration of the emission line images with correction for the underlying continuum. A second, contiguous field, was also imaged, in all five filters. The results of both sets of observations are used in this paper and a combined color image is shown in the rear section of this volume. The method of calibration was the same as that used in studies of the Orion Nebula (Hu 1993). Details of the calibration and digital copies of the images can be obtained from the first author. The new observations show heretofore unseen structure which is discussed in the following sections. They indicate that there are about 3500 detectable CK in the entire Helix Nebula, with the actual number probably being much larger as strong observational selection effects operate against detection of objects far from the Central Star. The images also show that the previously known orientation along radial lines is followed, but a detailed examination shows that the tails show small local variations, as if additional, non-radial, forces are acting on them (Fig.4). O&H demonstrated that the chord diameters, measured across the cusps, decrease from about 1.8″ at 120″ distance from the Central Star to about 0.6″ at 180″. There are so many known CK that one cannot use a sequential system of designation. In this paper we will use a coordinate based system, dividing the nebula into boxes of 1″ in Declination and 0.1s of Right Ascension and dropping the values common to all of the CK. Therefore, a CK located at 22:29:42.331 −20:47:32.1 would have the designation Helix 423-732. This system will allow future studies to uniquely identify all CK with only six digits within the range of declination −20:45:00 and −20:55:00, with any objects found north or south of this range having either 4 or 5 inserted as an additional digit immediately after the hyphen. Epoch 2000 is used for the positions and the position is judged to be at the center of the dark knot.

Résumé :
The development of technology and communication has brought many changes, especially in broadcast industry. Since the internet era, people could listen to music through various media portals that they accessed through smartphones. This trend is known as media convergence, where there is an interlacing between internet and radio. The birth of media convergence in radio industry also gave rise to the term of ‘streaming’, where the content broadcasted live through the internet, in the form of audio and video. One of the streaming radio service providers in Indonesia is JOOX. This scientific work’s aim is to provide an overview and contribution to the era of new media, especially for music and radio industry. The concept of online strategy in music radio programming from Newton and Kaiser is being used. The result showed that JOOX is an audio visual based live streaming program that facilitates musicians to promote their new albums, as well as the place to interact with their fans through the live-chat feature as a form of engagement.

This research examines the existence of radio in the era of media convergence. The research aims to discover how radio exists in the era of media convergence, where new media emerged, making it easier for people to find information. This research uses a qualitative approach to the type of literature study with a historical review—data collection techniques through reviewing books and literature and references related to the research being carried out. The research results show that radio broadcasting can survive in the era of media convergence by making new media an opportunity, not a threat, by utilizing the internet to create websites and social media for archiving content and sharing information about broadcast programs. Résumé :
AbstractThe Ohio State SETI program has been in operation since 1974, making it the longest-running search. The Ohio State radio telescope is equivalent in size to a 175-foot circular dish. The latest and best all-sky meridian-transit survey is about 60% complete, searching in the Water Hole (1.4 to 1.7 GHz). Signals detected are automatically examined at greater resolution and then tracked for up to 1 hour. A dual-beam pattern-matching system is used for real-time signal detection and RFI rejection. A new 4 million channel receiver built at UC Berkeley is now being installed. A simultaneous broadband continuum survey at 1415 MHz is in progress, searching for natural radio sources that have changed since the previous OSU continuum survey was made 20 years ago. A new radio telescope called Argus is being designed that will look in all directions simultaneously, allow usage by everyone simultaneously, and have no moving or machined parts. It is a large timed array which is based on computers rather than steel. All possible beams are formed all the time, so there is no scanning or need to «point» the telescope. This approach has many advantages over dish-type telescopes, such as RFI rejection and retroactive observations. Ohio State University has decided to abandon its radio telescope at the end of 1997 and allow it to be torn down by land developers.
