Résumé :
Samples of polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET) and polylactide (PLA) non-woven fabrics were exposed to carbon arc light in a covered chamber at 65°C and 50% relative humidity for different times. In order to determine state of degradation, samples were examined by Tensile Properties, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy and Differential Scanning Calovimotry (DSC) curves, and then were evaluated by retention rate of Tensile strength and Elongation , appearence changes on fabric and fiber, infrared spectra and melting point changes. Its observed that PP is more vulnerable to photodegradate than PET and PLA non-woven fabrics. Photosensitizer is crucial for samples photodegradation. Mechanical properties are used to examine photodegradation for PP, PET, PLA, and melting point changes could evaluate photodegradation for PP, PET. SEM observation can make qualitative evaluation, and Transform Infrared Spectroscopy might evaluate photodegradation for PP.

Résumé :
It is very important matter whether we should choose between the ‘National Exhaustion’ which prohibits the parallel importation of patented goods and the ‘International Exhaustion’ which permits the parallel importation. The author generally supports the ‘International Exhaustion’, because once the patent holder exercises his rights and receives the remuneration, then such rights should be exhausted irrespective of the location of the first exercise of such right. However, in order to cope with complicated phenomena of the international trade, proper mixture of ‘International Exhaustion’ and ‘National Exhaustion’ would be a better option in light of the each characteristics of the patented goods in question. In this respect, the comparison of the economic notion of ‘Durable Goods’ and ‘Non-Durable Goods’ seems to be meaningful in dealing with exhaustion of patented goods and parallel importation. Patent exhaustion should be applied to the durable goods, which may be expected to be traded in the second hand market afterwards. On the contrary, non-durable goods is expected to consumed by the purchasers themselves. If the patent exhaustion should be applied to non-durable goods in international context, then windfall may be granted to the commercial scale, opportunistic third party who seeks the arbitrage in the course of trade of such non-durable goods. Thus, national exhaustion might be applied to only non-durable goods. To institutionalize above idea, it is proposed to amend the relevant regulation of the Korea Customs Service to the effect to permit the parallel importation of patented durable goods.

Résumé :
AbstractThe contribution aims to identify the influence of income on Slovak household expenditures. Analyses are querying from the household income and expenditures data in the Slovak Republic during the period 2004–2018. The data source is the Statistical Office of The Slovak Republic. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis are used. The analysis of the goods and services expenditures reveals the major share of the expenditures is expended for the non-durable goods. The non-durable goods expenditures of the pensioners are 72% of their total consumption expenditures. Expenditures of employees, self-employees and other households for the non-durable goods present more than a half of their total expenditures. The share of services expenditures is also considerable. It is varying above 30% for all households kinds. The income influence on the household expenditures is analyzed using Engel’s expenditures functions which are used as the basis for the income elasticities of household expenditures. The analysis results are pointing to the fact that the less elastic on the income change is the reaction of the Slovak household expenditures on non-durable goods. A significant reaction on the income change is observed in household durable goods expenditures.

Résumé :
Using data from China's Urban Household Survey and exploiting China's mandatory retirement policy, we use the regression discontinuity approach to estimate the impact of retirement on household expenditures. Retirement reduces total non-durable expenditures by 20 percent. Among the categories of non-durable expenditures, retirement reduces work-related expenditures and expenditures on food consumed at home but has an insignificant effect on entertainment expenditures. After excluding these three components, retirement does not have an effect on the remaining non-durable expenditures. It suggests that the retirement consumption puzzle might not be a puzzle if a life-cycle model with home production is considered.

Résumé :
This paper returns to Adam Smith's much maligned distinction of productive versus unproductive labour to flesh out a dimension of capital productivity that has been missed by the modern theory of production and welfare. The puzzle lies in Smith's use of a binary measurement scale to suggest opposing productivity, and household welfare outcomes obtained with a durable versus non-durable good. A durable good generates a permanent fund of labour savings and service spillovers over time. This dimension of productivity exists separate from, and beyond, any marginal productivity attributed to capital or labour services within the neoclassical production function. And, it forms the basis of improvements in household welfare that Smith described in the Wealth of Nations – in terms of continual net increases in the consumption-production possibility frontier enjoyed by the household, as a result of service spillovers obtained with a durable good over time. In contrast, no such spillovers are obtained with a non-durable good. A preference-bias for non-durable goods, instead, proves to be welfare-reducing – by having households under-invest and/or fail in maintaining the accumulated stock of durable-goods-as-capital. Both lead to a loss of production-consumption possibilities available within the household economy. An exploration of Smith's concern with 'unproductive labour' brings back into focus the broad set of behavioural traits and ethical-legal restraints that underlie economic progress and have been missed by neoclassical theory.

Résumé :
In this paper, I extend the analysis in Koh (2006) to examine the optimality of inter-temporal price discrimination for a durable-good monopoly in a model where infinitely-lived households consume both durable goods and a stream of non-durable goods subject to different inter-temporal budget constraints. I also consider the multi-dimensional setting where households differ in both inter-temporal budget constraints and the utilities they derive from the consumption of the durable good.

Résumé :
Background Anti-tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) therapy is widely used in the management of Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). However, up to a third of patients do not respond to induction therapy and another third of patients lose response over time. To aid patient stratification, polygenetic risk scores have been identified as predictors of response to anti-TNFα therapy. We aimed to replicate the association between polygenetic risk scores and response to anti-TNFα therapy in an independent cohort of patients, to establish its clinical validity. Materials and methods Primary non-response, primary response, durable response and loss of response to anti-TNFα therapy was retrospectively assessed for each patient using stringent definitions. Genome wide genotyping was performed and previously described polygenetic risk scores for primary non-response and durable response were calculated. We compared polygenetic risk scores between patients with primary response and primary non-response, and between patients with durable response and loss of response, using separate analyses for CD and UC. Results Out of 334 patients with CD, 15 (4%) patients met criteria for primary non-response, 221 (66%) for primary response, 115 (34%) for durable response and 35 (10%) for loss of response. Out of 112 patients with UC, 12 (11%) met criteria for primary non-response, 68 (61%) for primary response, 19 (17%) for durable response and 20 (18%) for loss of response. No significant differences in polygenetic risk scores were found between primary non-responders and primary responders, and between durable responders and loss of responders. Conclusions We could not replicate the previously reported association between polygenetic risk scores and response to anti-TNFα therapy in an independent cohort of patients with CD or UC. Currently, there is insufficient evidence to use polygenetic risk scores to predict response to anti-TNFα therapy in patients with IBD.

The purpose of the study was to explore the yearly consumption expenditure of household on durable, non-durable goods and services in Pakistan using partial data from Pakistan social and living standards measurement survey. From the hidden patterns in the data using different data mining techniques and statistical tools it has been observed that consumption quintiles in various regions, provinces, genders, and languages are changing. In addition, the mean consumption expenditures per household and mean consumption expenditures per-capita vary according to region, gender, province, and language. While summarizing consumption quintiles and people infected with different diseases, it has been seen that the number of infected people declines as consumption expenditure increases. The Chi-square test revealed that the number of people infected with malaria and hepatitis differs by consumption expenditure quintile. The number of days a person had malaria was negatively correlated with monthly consumption expenditure. The descriptive tables result that woman in rich households are more likely to make decisions in their households related to education and employment. In the regression analysis, women's involvement in decision-making impacts the monthly consumption expenditure per household except for medical decisions.

Résumé :
This paper delves into China’s differential growth in exports with high income and developing countries by focusing on bilateral content of China’s trade and particular exports over the time period 1979-2015. In the last 30 plus years, China has specialized in upstream capital goods and exhibited rapid diversification in consumer goods. Performing causality tests reveals a strong evidence of causality from the export growth of capital goods and consumer non-durable goods to gross domestic product (GDP) per capita. There is also evidence that the causality is bi-directional for consumer durable goods, intermediate goods, and primary non-energy goods with income. Econometric analysis shows a positive and statistical significant relationship between income and export growth of capital goods, consumer non-durable goods, intermediate goods, and primary non-energy goods. Trade openness allows stimulation of growth and efficiency as producers in China are exploiting areas in which they have a comparative advantage.

Résumé :
The aim of the paper is to study the cultural differentiation in the European Union countries and compare it with the differentiation in their consumption spending. The question is whether similar countries in terms of culture have similar final consumption expenditures and consumption structures. Culture in this research is characterised by six Hofstede dimensions – power distance, individualism vs. collectivism, masculinity vs. femininity, uncertainty avoidance, long term orientation and indulgence vs. restraint. The consumption structure is characterised by share of durable goods, semi‑durable goods, non‑durable goods and services in households’ final consumption. In the analysis, the influence of culture on the share of non‑durable goods and services in final consumption expenditures is considered. Countries’ similarities in these two aspects are evaluated with the use of the cluster analysis approach – the k‑means algorithm and the Ward clustering method. The dependence between the structure of final consumption expenditures and culture is investigated using spatial autoregressive (SAR) and spatial error (SE) panel data models.

Résumé :
Abstract Background Most of the patients undergoing bowel resection for Crohn’s disease (CD) develop postoperative recurrence requiring medical treatment intensification or surgery. Is there a subgroup of patients for which surgery allows durable remission? Methods In this retrospective follow-up study, we collected data from 592 patients undergoing ileocolic resection for CD who were included from 2013 to 2015 in a prospective nation-wide cohort of the GETAID Chirurgie group. Patients with follow-up superior to 36 months were included. Primary outcome was durable remission, defined as the absence of endoscopic recurrence (Rutgeerts ≥i2) and/or absence of medical treatment intensification. Uni- and multivariate analyses of the predictive factors for durable remission were carried out. Results Among 268 included patients, 158 (59%) had a B2 stricturing phenotype, 92 (34%) had a B3 penetrating phenotype and 18 (7%) had a non-stricturing non-perforating phenotype (Montreal classification). One hundred and eighty-eight patients (70%) had a primary ileocolic resection. One hundred and sixty-seven patients (66%) had postoperative medical treatment to prevent postoperative recurrence (Table 1). After a median follow-up of 85 (36-104) months, 52 patients (19%) had a durable remission, among which 24 (46%) had no medical treatment and 28 (54%) maintained the same postoperative prophylactic treatment, including anti-TNF therapy in 15 patients (54%) (Table 2). Durable remission rate was significantly increased in B1 phenotype vs B2/B3 (n=7/18 ;39% vs n=45/250; 18%, p=0.030) and in primary ileocolic resection vs redo ileocolic resection (n=43/184 ; 23% vs n=9/80 ; 11%, p=0.023). In multivariate analysis, B1 phenotype was an independent predictive factor for durable remission (OR=3.59, IC95%[1.13-11.37], p=0.030) (Table 3). Conclusion These long-term data obtained from a nation-wide prospective cohort are in line with those of a randomised controlled trial (LIR!C) and show that durable remission is obtained in nearly 40% of CD patients with non-stricturing non-penetrating phenotype operated for CD refractory to medical treatment. This important result should be considered when medical treatment intensification versus surgery is discussed in these patients.

Résumé :
Water scarcity is a worldwide issue that significantly affects the environment, population, and economy of the arid zones. In this study, we report a straightforward method for water-harvesting based on modifications of the surface wettability. Using magnesium chloride, lauric acid, and electrodeposition process, a superhydrophobic surface (155°) is obtained. Morphological characterization techniques allow determination of the characteristic flower-like microstructures combined with close packed nanoarrays that lead to the hierarchical structure. Furthermore, the coating presents vertically aligned microarrays in a non-linear cone morphology formed by dynamic templating of hydrogen bubbles. From a chemical point of view, magnesium laurate is responsible for the surface tension decrease. To determine the durability of the obtained surface ultra-violet (UV) light test and abrasive paper test, tests are carried out revealing high durability against these severe conditions. The water-harvesting ability of the superhydrophobic surface is studied at 45° and 90° tilted samples. The capacity of the water to be harvested efficiently is found to be at 90° tilt under fog conditions. The use of green reactants associated with this hierarchical structure broadens a new scope for sustainable freshwater collection and it becomes an excellent example of a green solution.
