Résumé :
The photocurrent in tellurium nanowire (Te NW) exhibits a subtle influence by many extrinsic factors. Herein, we fabricate Te NW devices and explore their photoresponse properties in detail. It is observed that the current increases greatly at low environmental relative humidity (RH) under light illumination, demonstrating an evident positive photoconductivity (PPC). However, the photocurrent reduces at high RH, yielding a typical negative photoconductivity (NPC). In addition, when exposed to a proper relative humidity, Te NW devices show PPC immediately and then transfer to NPC gradually under illumination, exhibiting the RH sensitive PPC/NPC switch. It is proposed that the competition between photo-excitation and photo-desorption is responsible for this subtle switch of PPC/NPC. On the one hand, the adsorbed water molecules on the surface of Te nanowires, acting as electron acceptors, lead to an increase of conductance, exhibiting the PPC phenomenon. On the other hand, the photo-desorption of water molecules from the surface results in a decreased carrier concentration in the Te nanowires, yielding the NPC phenomenon. The in-depth understanding of such charge transfer processes between the absorbed water molecules and Te nanowires provides an effective route to modulate the carrier densities and control the PPC/NPC switch, which will accelerate the design and application of novel optoelectronic nanodevices.

Résumé :
Due to its attractive interaction with light, negative photoconductivity (NPC) has received widespread attention and has been used in optoelectronic logic devices with excellent performance. However, long negative response time triggered by photogenerated carriers trapping mechanism became a bottleneck in further application. Therefore, an enhanced strategy that can speed up negative response is urgently needed. Herein, we prepared a zinc oxide microwire (ZnO MW)–silver nanowires (Ag NWs)–methylammonium lead halide perovskite (CH3NH3PbBr3) heterostructure with enhanced negative response than the previous NPC device. The Ag NWs with high mobility at the interface of ZnO and CH3NH3PbBr3 accelerate the photoresponse time from 50 to 5.4 s and improve the dark current recovery time by two orders of magnitude. This work provides a strategy to improve the negative response speed with simple operation, which represents a step toward applications in the field of fast NPC optoelectronics.

Résumé :
Single crystals of BGHB were grown by slow evaporation technique. The unit cell dimensions and space group of the grown crystals were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The modes of vibration of the molecules and the presence of functional groups were identified using FTIR technique. The microhardness study shows that the Vickers hardness number of the crystal increases with the increase in applied load. The optical properties of the crystals were determined using UV-Visible spectroscopy. The thermal properties of the grown crystal were also determined. The refractive index was determined as 1.396 using Brewster’s angle method. The emission of green light on passing the Nd: YAG laser light confirmed the second harmonic generation property of the crystals and the SHG efficiency of the crystals was found to be higher than that of KDP. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss measurements were carried out for different temperatures and frequencies. The ac conductivity study of the crystals was also discussed. The photoconductivity studies confirm that the grown crystal has negative photoconductivity nature. The etching studies were carried out to study the formation of etch pits.

Résumé :
This paper examines different off-grid renewable energy-based electrification schemes for an informal settlement in Windhoek, Namibia. It presents a techno-economic comparison between the deployment of solar home systems to each residence and the supplying power from either a centralized roof-mounted or ground-mounted hybrid microgrid. The objective is to find a feasible energy system that satisfies technical and user constraints at a minimum levelized cost of energy (LCOE) and net present cost (NPC). Sensitivity analyses are performed on the ground-mounted microgrid to evaluate the impact of varying diesel fuel price, load demand, and solar photovoltaic module cost on system costs. HOMER Pro software is used for system sizing and optimization. The results show that a hybrid system comprising a solar photovoltaic, a diesel generator, and batteries offers the lowest NPC and LCOE for both electrification schemes. The LCOE for the smallest residential load of 1.7 kWh/day and the largest microgrid load of 5.5 MWh/day is USD 0.443/kWh and USD 0.380/kWh, respectively. Respective NPCs are USD 4738 and USD 90.8 million. A sensitivity analysis reveals that variation in the fuel price and load demand changes linearly with system costs and capacities. However, reducing the PV module price in an energy system that includes wind and diesel power sources does not offer significant benefits. Furthermore, deploying an energy system that relies on fossil fuels to each residence in an informal settlement is not environmentally responsible. Unintended negative environmental impacts may result from the mass and simultaneous use of diesel generators. Therefore, a microgrid is recommended for its ability to control the dispatch of diesel generation, and its scalability, reliability of supply, and property security. A roof-mounted microgrid can be considered for piloting due to its lower initial investment. The electricity tariff also needs to be subsidized to make it affordable to end-users. Equally, government and community involvement should be prioritized to achieve long-term economic sustainability of the microgrid.

Résumé :
This work examined the effects of incorporation of exogenous enzyme preparation on growth and performance traits in broilers fed diet containing 400 g/Kg of L. angustifolius(cv. Arabella) of Europe and L. angustifolius (cv. Kalya) obtained from Australia. A maize- soy (MS) based diet served as a control diet and acted as positive, while non-protein control diet acted as a negative control (NPC) and fed ad libitum for 18 days. Growth rate, apparent digestibility of N, fat and excretion of essential minerals were assessed. In comparison to broilers fed maize-soy (MS) diet, broilers fed the L. angustifolius of European origin (EL) diet, consumed less feed, had considerably lower body weight gain, as well as lower apparent digestibility. Addition of Rena phytase to the EL (ELPH) and L. angustifolius of Australian origin (ALPH) increased feed intake, however, the feed gain ratio was found to be decreased. . This study indicates that a diet containing high level of lupin meal is detrimental to feed intake broilers and thus affected their performance. However, when lupin meal diet was supplemented with Rena phytase, performance parameters were not different from those obtained from raw meal. The inclusion of lupin meal with or without exogenous enzyme had significant effect on the mineral content of the faeces and on mineral balance. The results suggest that lupin protrein is involved in the elevated loss of minerals associated with long-term effects of this seed as protein source in poultry. Compared to those of control, the N excretion was in the range of 14.9% (EL), 15.6% (ELPH) and 13.9% (ALPH). On the other hand, digestibility was found to be in the range of 78% (EL) and 73% (ELPH) than the corresponding control fed on (MS) diet. The fat excretion was found to be highest in (ALPH) fed diet 19.1% as compared to those of control. True fat digestibility was found to be at the lowest level n ALPH group. The present work has revealed a very remarkable property of L. angustifolius of Australian lupin, that has caused high level of fat excretion in the droppings of broilers fed this as compared to those of its European counterpart. It is highly likely that Australian lupin due to its gel forming character may have caused this kind of response in fecal lipid excretion.Bang. J. Anim. Sci. 2017. 46 (4): 266-272

Résumé :
ABSTRACTWe have measured the Shubnikov-de Haas effect and Quantum Hall effect on the AlxGa1−xSb/InAs quantum wells for the A1 composition (x) from 0.1 to 1.0 under the negative persistent photoconductivity (NPPC) conditions. It confirmed the prediction of ionized deep donor model that the NPPC effect is a general property for the materials containing ionized deep donors at low temperatures. The time-dependent recombination (electron capture) of the ionized deep donors has the similar property to that of DX centers. The saturated reduction of carrier concentration in the InAs well increases with increasing x, and rises steeply at about x=0.4. By comparing with the concentration of the DX center-like deep donor in the bulk AlxGa1−xSb, we believe that the ionized deep donors which cause the NPPC in the AlxGa1−xSb,/InAs QW's are the DX center-like deep donors in the AlxGa1−xSb layers.

Résumé :
AbstractThe development of high-temperature photodetectors can be beneficial for numerous applications, such as aerospace engineering, military defence and harsh-environments robotics. However, current high-temperature photodetectors are characterized by low photoresponsivity (<10 A/W) due to the poor optical sensitivity of commonly used heat-resistant materials. Here, we report the realization of h-BN-encapsulated graphite/WSe2 photodetectors which can endure temperatures up to 700 °C in air (1000 °C in vacuum) and exhibit unconventional negative photoconductivity (NPC) at high temperatures. Operated in NPC mode, the devices show a photoresponsivity up to 2.2 × 106 A/W, which is ~5 orders of magnitude higher than that of state-of-the-art high-temperature photodetectors. Furthermore, our devices demonstrate good flexibility, making it highly adaptive to various shaped surfaces. Our approach can be extended to other 2D materials and may stimulate further developments of 2D optoelectronic devices operating in harsh environments.
