Résumé :
The experience of migration includes costs and benefits to migrants and sending communities. In the tradition of a “letters” type discussion, this paper presents a synthesis of recent work from a longitudinal study from Zambia, Africa that used a mixed-methods approach to investigate the experience and outcomes of migration among the Gwembe Tonga. In this ethnographic study, we argue that including anthropometric methods in migration studies enhances our ability to empirically assess impacts of mobility to better understand the experience of migration. In this particular African context we see, on average, a beneficial outcome for migrants’ nutritional status, and livelihoods.

Résumé :
This paper presents multi-criteria methods for ranking project activities according to several ranking indexes. The methods are based on the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP), on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and on the use of common ranking indexes. This paper reviews ranking indexes of project activities for project management tasks. The ranking of project activities in one project is applicable for focusing the attention of the project manager on important activities. The selection of the appropriate ranking indexes should be done in accordance with managerial purposes: 1) Paying attention to activities throughout the execution phase and in the resources allocation process, in order meet pre-determined qualities, and to deliver the project on time and within budget, i.e., to accomplish the project within the "iron triangle" 2) Setting priorities in order to share the managerial care and control among the activities. The paper proposes to use multi-criteria ranking methods in order to rank the activities in a case where several ranking indexes are selected.

Résumé :
For multi-actuators speed control system driven by single pump, several effective control methods have been proposed, such as flow feedback control, etc. These methods are effective only to the engineering equipment with fewer actuators. As for large vessels with more than ten actuators required for speed control, using traditional control methods will result in that costs much, the structure of the hydraulic system is very complicated, even unable to realize. In order to meet the coordinate action of many actuators, two ways based on throttle control and pressure compensation control are introduced in this paper. The research results based on the theoretical analysis of speed control error and adaptability, simulation research and experimental confirmation indicate that the throttle control method is limited by the number of actuators, load size and the speed error, but the pressure compensation control method is helpful to enhance rationality and the coordination of flow distribution between various actuators.

Résumé :
This article discusses methodological approaches to app studies, focusing on their embeddedness and situatedness within multiple infrastructural settings. Our approach involves close attention to the multivalent affordances of apps as software packages, particularly their capacity to enter into diverse groupings and relations depending on different infrastructural situations. The changing situations they evoke and participate in, accordingly, make apps visible and accountable in a variety of unique ways. Therefore, engaging with and even staging these situations allows for political-economic, social, and cultural dynamics associated with apps and their infrastructures to be investigated through a style of research we describe as multi-situated app studies. This article offers an overview of four different entry points of enquiry that are exemplary of this multi-situated approach, focusing on app stores, app interfaces, app packages, and app connections. We conclude with nine propositions that develop out of these studies as prompts for further research.

Résumé :
Standardization of radiotherapy structure names is essential for developing data-driven personalized radiotherapy treatment plans. Different types of data are associated with radiotherapy structures, such as the physician-given text labels, geometric (image) data, and Dose-Volume Histograms (DVH). Prior work on structure name standardization used just one type of data. We present novel approaches to integrate complementary types (views) of structure data to build better-performing machine learning models. We present two methods, namely (a) intermediate integration and (b) late integration, to combine physician-given textual structure name features and geometric information of structures. The dataset consisted of 709 prostate cancer and 752 lung cancer patients across 40 radiotherapy centers administered by the U.S. Veterans Health Administration (VA) and the Department of Radiation Oncology, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). We used randomly selected data from 30 centers for training and ten centers for testing. We also used the VCU data for testing. We observed that the intermediate integration approach outperformed the models with a single view of the dataset, while late integration showed comparable performance with single-view results. Thus, we demonstrate that combining different views (types of data) helps build better models for structure name standardization to enable big data analytics in radiation oncology.

Résumé :
Currently, some manual segmentation problems exist in multi-beam waterjet cutting process drawings, such as low efficiency, incomplete segmentation and so on. In order to solve the problems, this paper designs a set of criteria for multi-beam cutting process and proposes the method of partition-classification trim, then uses the secondary development tool which is embedded in AutoCAD to program three user-defined commands, and these commands can partition the drawing by region, classify and trim the entities in the cutting process drawing. Through inputting the three simple commands on the command lines, it can realize automatic segmentation of cutting process drawings. Finally, the feasibility of this method is proved by a segmentation experiment. It can effectively solve the problems which exist in manual segmentation and greatly improve work efficiency.

Résumé :
Based on the multi-roller-pressing flexible stretch forming (MRPFSF) process, force loading and displacement loading were researched. The process of spherical parts of 08AL sheet material were simulated by means of an explicit finite element method. The variations of the forming force in stretch-forming process and the distribution of stress after springback were analyzed comparatively for both loading methods. The results show that the change of the forming force in the force loading method has fluctuation. With the depressing of rollers, the vibration amplitude is smaller. At the end of forming, the forming forces of both loading methods are gradually consistent. The stress distribution of spherical parts formed by the two loading method is accordant.

Résumé :
In the contemporary literature on sustainability, one can notice an increasingly frequent use of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods instead of classic sustainability indices. The MCDA method should be tailored to the specific sustainability problem and decision situation so that its results are credible and satisfactory for the decision-maker. Therefore, the following research questions arise: (1) which MCDA methods are most often used in sustainability problems, and (2) which methods should be used depending on the characteristics of a particular sustainability decision problem and its assessment. The aim of the article is to scientifically analyse the applicability of various MCDA methods in decision-making problems related to sustainability, sustainable development, and sustainability assessment. In the article, based on the analysis of the literature, a set of features has been developed that determines the possibility of using individual MCDA methods in sustainability problems. Then, the characteristics of 28 methods are presented and the framework for selecting the MCDA method for the purpose of sustainability decision problems is indicated. As a result of the conducted research, it was found that the most commonly used MCDA methods in sustainability problems are primarily methods based on arithmetic aggregation of criteria. In addition, fuzzy methods and fuzzy modifications of classical methods are used more often. Research has established that MCDA methods are more functional than classic sustainability indices. In addition, the use of MCDA methods in the assessment of sustainability gives much more flexibility than the use of classic indices. The proposed framework allows the decision-maker to independently assess the potential of using individual multi-criteria methods in specific decision-making problems related to sustainability. The framework enables the selection of an appropriate MCDA method depending on the defined needs of the decision-maker, resulting from the decision problem, its structure, and decision-making situation.

Résumé :
Current evaluations on mobile text entry methods focus only on speed and accuracy performance but fail to consider subjective preferences of users. Such evaluation is ill-defined and does not constitute a systems approach since it requires a complex multi-criteria decision process that must encompass both objective and subjective criteria. Thus, this paper proposes the use of Analytic Network Process (ANP) in the evaluation of five mobile text entry methods in Android smartphones. A hierarchical network decision problem is developed from a focus group discussion of keen smartphone users. Using ANP, new insights in research and design of text entry methods are proposed. Results show that QWERTY method is the most preferred text entry method and is influenced by criteria on perceived text entry speed and number of keys. A survey is conducted to validate the results of the evaluation process using ANP. The main contribution of this work is in introducing a multi-criteria evaluation approach for mobile text entry research that holistically addresses speed-accuracy performance along with relevant subjective criteria that may potentially influence decision-making.

Résumé :
The multi-beam sounding system combines multi-beam bathymetry and integrated navigation technology, which can obtain underwater topography data quickly and accurately, it has become the most important way of marine investigation. Therefore, it is urgent for improving the accuracy of sounding system in the detection industry. During the study of multi-beam error processing, the installation error coefficient of transducer installation will be corrected, but all the time, the transducer mounting bracket is regarded would be corrected. However, the transducer mounting bracket has been regarded as a rigid body in the correction for a long time. In this paper, the transducer bracket is regarded as a non-rigid body, and the reversible elastic deformation of transducer bracket occurs due to the impact of water flow. With the change of ship speed and water flow velocity, the degree of elastic deformation is also time-varying. The elastic deformation of bracket leads to the deflection of transducer shafting, which can not be corrected when correcting the installation deviation, so that leading to the influence of this error in final sounding results. This paper aims at the fact of deformation of multi-beam bracket caused by the water flow velocity, ship speed etc., leading to the deflection of transducer relative to the deviation of inertial navigation system shafting and resulting in attitude deviation which affect accuracy of result is researched.

Résumé :
The success of labs- and organs-on-chips as transformative technologies in the biomedical arena relies on our capacity of solving some current challenges related to their design, modeling, manufacturability, and usability. Among present needs for the industrial scalability and impact promotion of these bio-devices, their sustainable mass production constitutes a breakthrough for reaching the desired level of repeatability in systematic testing procedures based on labs- and organs-on-chips. The use of adequate biomaterials for cell-culture processes and the achievement of the multi-scale features required, for in vitro modeling the physiological interactions among cells, tissues, and organoids, which prove to be demanding requirements in terms of production. This study presents an innovative synergistic combination of technologies, including: laser stereolithography, laser material processing on micro-scale, electroforming, and micro-injection molding, which enables the rapid creation of multi-scale mold cavities for the industrial production of labs- and organs-on-chips using thermoplastics apt for in vitro testing. The procedure is validated by the design, rapid prototyping, mass production, and preliminary testing with human mesenchymal stem cells of a conceptual multi-organ-on-chip platform, which is conceived for future studies linked to modeling cell-to-cell communication, understanding cell-material interactions, and studying metastatic processes.

Résumé :
Methodological pluralism or plurality is considered as the employment of more than one method in an inquiry. Methodological pluralism can be categorised into mixed methods and multi-method. The current study explored the use of methodological pluralism in Library and Information Science (LIS) research produced by Pakistani authors. Qualitative content analysis was used to explore latent and manifest use of methodologies in research articles authored by Pakistani published between 2001 and 2016 in national and international journals. Multiple searching strategies were used to identify the articles published in international journals. Findings show that high majority of Pakistani authors did not use the terms mixed methods and multi-method in the description of methodology. Nearly one third (30%) research articles used more than one method. The share of multi-method research (16%) is slightly higher than mixed methods research (14%). In multi-methods articles, combining of quantitative methods was less prevalent as compared to qualitative methods. Multi-method quantitative was used in only six articles. In case of multi-method qualitative design, interviews, personal communication and discussion with experts, literature review and content analysis are the most popular methods. In mixed methods research, interview and questionnaire are the most used methods. Growth in methodological pluralism is half than growth of articles with single method. Knowing and elaboration of the differentiation in mixed methods and multi-method can help in the education and use of methodological pluralism among LIS researchers. Authors should use and explore methodological plurality by treating multi-method designs as separate from mixed method designs.
