Résumé :
Motorcycles are among the most vulnerable vehicles on the road. Although a combination of different factors may cause motorcycle crashes, an appropriate design of roadside safety systems can play an important role in limiting the severity of motorcycle crashes. Roadside safety systems are not typically designed with the special needs of motorcyclists in mind. The Roadside Design Guide provides guidelines for proper concrete barrier placement on roadways but does not address motorcycle barriers ( 1). The Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware includes testing guidelines and evaluation criteria for roadside safety barriers impacted by errant vehicles but does not address impacts by motorcycles ( 2). There is a need to improve motorcyclist safety by designing and evaluating a containment system for upright errant motorcycle riders impacting a concrete barrier. This system would prevent riders from flying over, while limiting injury severity to the rider during the impact event. In this study, finite element computer simulations were used to assist with the design and evaluation of proposed containment options to be mounted on a concrete barrier. An upright motorcycle full-scale crash test with a Hybrid III 50th percentile male dummy was conducted to evaluate the crashworthiness of a chain link fence containment system supported by U-shaped posts and attached to a curved concrete barrier section. The test was conducted at nominal impact speed of 35 mph and impact angle of 18 degrees to the barrier. During the impact event, the system successfully contained the dummy, which did not interact with the system posts.

Résumé :
World Health Organisation has determined that South-East Asian region has the highest road traffic death in 2015 involving motorised 2-3 wheelers. Generally, motorcycles are lack of active safety features that capable to prevent road accident. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop active safety features for a motorcycle to prevent a frontal collision through an audible warning to the motorcyclist and detected object when the collision is about to happen. The system should consist of a simple algorithm with a minimum set of hardware. Based on the design criteria for the system, an audible warning will only be given when all three conditions stated below are met. (1) An object is within stopping distance limit, (2) object heading towards the centre of motorcycle and (3) relative velocity of an object might cause a frontal accident. The system called Detection and Warning System for Motorcycle Vehicular Collision Avoidance (DEWAMCA). It is expected that DEWAMCA can assist currently available Blind Spot Detection System (BSDS) to reduce accident involving motorcycles significantly.

Résumé :
Motorcycle is a popular mode of transportation in many developing countries, including Pakistan. Since the last decade, the registered number of motorcycles in Pakistan has increased by six times, constituting 74% of the total registered vehicles. However, limited research efforts have been made to investigate motorcycle-related safety issues in Pakistan. Thus, the relationship between potential risk factors and injury outcomes of motorcycle crashes is still unclear in the country. This study, therefore, established a random parameter logit model to examine the factors associated with the motorcycle injury severity. The analysis is based on two years (2014–2015) of data collected through the road traffic injuries surveillance system from Karachi city, Pakistan. The results indicate that the summer season, weekends, nighttime, elderly riders, heavy vehicle, and single-vehicle collisions are positively associated with fatalities, while the presence of pillion passengers and motorcycle-to-motorcycle crashes are negatively associated with fatalities. More importantly, in the specific context of Pakistan, morning hours, young riders, and female pillion passengers whose clothes stuck in the wheel significantly increase the fatal injury outcomes. Based on the findings, potential countermeasures to improve motorcycle safety are discussed, such as strict enforcement to control motorcyclists' risky behavior and speeding, provision of exclusive motorcycles lanes, and education of female pillion passengers. The findings from this study would increase awareness of motorcycle safety and can be used by the policymakers to enhance road safety in Pakistan, as well as in other developing countries with similar situations.

Résumé :
Conventionally, a motorcycle has headlight and mirrors to provide front illumination and rear views for drivers, respectively. Rearview mirrors on conventional motorcycles are fixed, which is easy to cause instant rear blind area for drivers on turns or hubbly roads. Therefore, the drivers cannot get traffic information behind motorcycles, and easily lead to traffic accidents. In this paper, actuation for an adaptive rearview mirror system for motorcycles was proposed. According to sensor inputs, this system adaptively adjusts the rearview mirrors to compensate the changes of vehicle dynamics in pitching, steering and rolling under different road conditions. A grey predictor was also developed in this paper to estimate the change of vehicle dynamics in advance. With the properly designed actuation, this system can provide wide and appropriate rear views to motorcycle riders. It significantly enhances riders’ safety and reduces the occurrence of traffic accidence.

Résumé :
Nowadays, vehicles are the main requirement for carrying out activities of daily life. One of the most widely used by Indonesians is motorbikes. The motorcycle safety system provided by motorcycle manufacturers has not been effective and still has many shortcomings. Besides, the rampant motorcycle thief and robbery cases have made vehicle owners have to pay attention to their motorbikes' safety. An integrated motorcycle safety system is much needed. The design of a motorcycle vehicle system that is integrated with the Arduino via Bluetooth media provides quite maximum test results. Based on the results of testing, the accuracy of the tool gives 99% results. This safety system can turn off and turn on the motorcycle stock contact automatically. When the motorbike is on, Bluetooth on the motorbike and Bluetooth on the helmet are separated beyond a distance of 10 meters, the stock contact on the motorcycle vehicle will turn off so that the motorbike cannot be turned on at the same time the alarm will flash. The motor can be turned on after Bluetooth on the helmet, and the motorbike is connected or reconnected. With this, the safety standards on motorbikes are getting better. Motorcycle users will feel safe after leaving their vehicle.

Résumé :
Dampers are the parts of suspensions which improve the ride comfort and the safety of vehicles including motorcycles. Magnetorheological dampers are very attractive for motorcycle suspensions, because of their controllable properties and their fast responses. Considerable energy is wasted owing to the energy dissipation by dampers encountering road irregularities and accelerating processes during everyday use of motorcycles. In addition, the current magnetorheological suspension systems depend on the power supply of batteries. Therefore, in this paper, a self-powered magnetorheological damper for motorcycle suspensions is proposed and implemented for the first time. It can convert the wasted mechanical energy into useful electrical energy to power itself. There are great merits in this such as energy saving, independence of extra batteries and less maintenance in comparison with conventional magnetorheological suspension systems, while keeping controllable performances. A customized prototype of the self-powered magnetorheological damper that is compatible with a motorcycle is developed and actually implemented in a motorcycle. Modelling for the self-powered magnetorheological damper is developed and validated by laboratory testing. Laboratory testing showed that the self-powered feature works well to generate the electrical power and to vary the magnetorheological damping force. Preliminary system-level testing showed that a self-powered magnetorheological suspension results in a better ride comfort, compared with that of a magnetorheological suspension without power generation. The results showed that implementing self-powered magnetorheological dampers in motorcycle suspensions is feasible and beneficial.

Résumé :
Movement in Semarang City has dependence on motorcycle, evidenced by the domination of motorcycle that reach 79%. It causes the highest percentage of accident rates by motorcycle users, reaching 66% of 5,378 incidents and 18.4% of them are high school students. Based on that problem, conducted research that aims to understand travel behavior of high school students motorcycle users in Semarang Central City and understand how dependence on motorcycles and safety riding awareness on the student. This research is use mix approach research to combine quantitative and qualitative method. The method of data analysis used in this study are descriptive statistics, network analysis and phenomenology analysis. The results show that social demographic aspects as measured by student participation in additional activities after school affect the student's travel behavior. Schedule and location of activities after school will form student travel pattern and then shaping the student travel behavior. It causes the motorcycle become the main mode of student travel. Besides travel behaviour, motorcycle dependence is caused by accumulation negligence by various parties. Such negligence is the provision of school parking following the demand growth, lack of integration of public transportation modes, and the permission of students to use motorcycles without driver license. Unfortunately, motorcycle dependence has not been accompanied by safety riding, it is evidenced by the percentage of causes of the highest accidents caused by driver factor, which reached 96%. 98% of students had committed traffic violations and 96% of them were deliberate. This is happened because students feel tired due to increased hours of activity from full day school system and additional activities after school so that students become unaware and not obey. These problems cause both well-informed and uninformed students ignore smart riding method.

This paper presents an effective vehicle and motorcycle detection system in the blind spot area in the daytime and nighttime scenes. The proposed method identifies vehicle and motorcycle by detecting the shadow and the edge features in the daytime, and the vehicle and motorcycle could be detected through locating the headlights at nighttime. First, shadow segmentation is performed to briefly locate the position of the vehicle. Then, the vertical and horizontal edges are utilized to verify the existence of the vehicle. After that, tracking procedure is operated to track the same vehicle in the consecutive frames. Finally, the driving behavior is judged by the trajectory. Second, the lamps in the nighttime are extracted based on automatic histogram thresholding, and are verified by spatial and temporal features to against the reflection of the pavement. The proposed real-time vision-based Blind Spot Safety-Assistance System has implemented and evaluated on a TI DM6437 platform to perform the vehicle detection on real highway, expressways, and urban roadways, and works well on sunny, cloudy, and rainy conditions in daytime and night time. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed vehicle detection approach is effective and feasible in various environments.

Résumé :
The goal of this research is to develop a fuzzy logic-based vehicle door control system to avoid motorcycle–vehicle door crash accidents. Accidents of this nature usually occur when the driver has parked the car, opens the door getting out of the car and collides with a motorcycle approaching from the rear, causing injury to the motorcyclist. In order to prevent such accidents, the fuzzy logic control system inputs the speed (MS) and safety distance (SD) of the motorcycle approaching from the rear, and then the fuzzy inference unit (FIU) calculates the clear output (Crisp) defuzzification Vehicle Door Opening Model (VDOM) value for the central locking system of the car, which can be used to trigger three modes, namely Danger Mode, Caution Mode and Warning Mode. In this study, the VDOM system is designed to trigger reasonable, reliable and consistent door control under different speeds of motorcycles coming from the rear and will be effectively applied to the door control of semi-automatic cars in the future.

Introduction: The federal government estimates that per mile traveled in 2018, the number of deaths on motorcycles was nearly 27 times the number in cars. In the United States there is no universal helmet law. In twenty-two states, motorcycle helmets are entirely optional, while in nineteen states and the District of Columbia universal motorcycle helmets laws requiring helmets for all riders regardless of age are implemented and nine states only require younger motorcycle riders to wear a helmet, with varying age limits. Objectives: The overall objectives of this study were to evaluate the following: (1) number of fatalities (with and without helmet use), (2) fatality rate per motorcycle registration, (3) fatality percentage with age, (4) percent fatality due to alcohol impairment, and (5) location of collision impact to the rider in two southern states (Mississippi and Alabama) where helmet laws are established compared with a southern state (Florida) that only requires riders less than 20 years of age to be helmeted. Methods: Data from 2015-2018 were obtained from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration Reporting System (FARS) and supplemented with state related and CDC data. Results: In all three states, the most common collision was a front-end impact. Mississippi had the highest percentage of motorcycle fatalities even with >80% of riders helmeted when the fatal accident occurred, followed by Florida motorcyclist who are only 50% of the time helmeted. In all three southern states similar percentage of fatalities were seen in each age group with higher fatalities associated with age range of 30-39 years. Conclusions: Variables such as helmet type, distance from a level 1 trauma center, poor roads, weather conditions, and visibility of the rider may also be factors that contribute to a higher incidence of fatality and need to be further investigated to improve motorcycle safety.

Résumé :
Motorcycle drivers are considered among the most vulnerable road users, as attested by the number of crashes increasing every year. The significant part of the fatalities relates to “single vehicle” loss of control in bends. During this investigation, a system based on an instrumented multi-sensor platform and an algorithmic study was developed to accurately reconstruct motorcycle trajectories achieved when negotiating bends. This system is used by the French Gendarmerie in order to objectively evaluate and to examine the way riders take their bends in order to better train riders to adopt a safe trajectory and to improve road safety. Data required for the reconstruction are acquired using a motorcycle that has been fully instrumented (in VIROLO++ Project) with several redundant sensors (reference sensors and low-cost sensors) which measure the rider actions (roll, steering) and the motorcycle behavior (position, velocity, acceleration, odometry, heading, and attitude). The proposed solution allowed the reconstruction of motorcycle trajectories in bends with a high accuracy (equal to that of fixed point positioning). The developed algorithm will be used by the French Gendarmerie in order to objectively evaluate and examine the way riders negotiate bends. It will also be used for initial training and retraining in order to better train riders to learn and estimate a safe trajectory and to increase the safety, efficiency and comfort of motorcycle riders.

The Arduino Uno-based three-wheeled motorcycle engine starting system aims to make it easier for motorcycle users to turn on and add motorcycle safety features from theft. The contact system and the starter system are controlled through the device. The research method used the development research model developed by Dick and Carey. The development research stages are defined, design, develop, and disseminate. The components needed are a battery, Arduino, Bluetooth, and two relays. The device controls this system through an android application developed by the researcher. The results of testing the engine start system using an Android smartphone are a series of techniques that can work by its function, and a Bluetooth connection on an Android smartphone can turn on the motorcycle engine start system at a distance of 1 to 9 meters. The Arduino Uno-based three-wheeled motorcycle engine starting system effectively minimizes inclination because motorbike users can only use it if they have a device that has the application installed.

Résumé :
Abstract The motorcycle suspension system is one of the crucial components. It helps to support the motorcycle’s weight, isolate the vibration level caused by road imperfection, and keep the wheel in contact with the road surface. Therefore, the performance of suspension system needs to be enhanced to ensure the ride comfort and safety of riders. Coil spring is one of the essential parts of motorcycle suspension system. In this study, two different materials of coil spring are being focused include steel alloy and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The geometry of the coil spring is the existing design in the market. The static structural analyses are carried out to determine the directional deformation of y-axis, equivalent stress and equivalent elastic stress analysis of the corresponding coil spring material. The obtained results are discussed. It is found that the steel coil spring has better performance for the existing coil spring design. The directional deformation, equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain of steel coil spring are considered at the lower side, which is 0.029357mm, 2003MPa and 0.010051mm/mm respectively. In this study, it is observed that the number of turns of coil spring should be increased to enhance the performance of CFRP coil spring.

Résumé :
Motorcycle safety is usually included in the emphasis areas of Strategic Highway Safety Plans because of the over-representation in fatal traffic crashes relative to the proportion of motorcycle registrations. Understanding the trends and patterns of motorcycle fatalities requires unique considerations because, unlike passenger vehicles, trip purpose causes their riding patterns to be irregular. Most studies of motorcycle fatalities focus on trends at the national or state levels; however, concentrating on changes at the county level allows for more targeted intervention strategies. As this study shows, state patterns can be quite variable, with a small number of counties accounting for most motorcycle fatalities. This paper seeks to identify spatial and temporal patterns in total motorcycle fatalities at multiple scales (state and county). This research focuses on 3-year aggregates of 2004–2006 pre-recession and 2014–2016 post-recession total motorcycle fatalities from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System. To examine spatial patterns of change in total motorcycle fatalities, a stochastic gradient boosted random forest model from 2004 to 2006 was trained to predict the aggregate values in 2014 to 2016. The model was trained on variables that encompass economic, demographic, and climate factors. The results demonstrate the disaggregated variability in total fatalities. This approach identified several counties that had a significantly higher-than-expected increase in the number of fatalities that population increases cannot explain. Also, the approach shows potential as a method of setting targets for Safety Performance Management.

Résumé :
Abstract In Colombia, the most widely used means of transport today are motorcycles, which have become increasingly numerous, bearing in mind that they are subject to laws and regulations imposed by the country’s mobility, transit and transport agencies, the use of helmets is mandatory for drivers and passengers, safety measures are monitored, the hull must be certified and meet the required technical standards; whereas its role is to protect people in the event of accidents, regulations require that the helmet be completely closed to protect the entire head and chin; the design of the helmet allows air entry and there is no concentration of temperature inside, all this is done by implementing air inlet and outlet ducts, which circulate air when the motorcycle is in motion, unfortunately this does not happen due to the accumulation of temperature in the back of the helmet that makes the user feel tired and uncomfortable. This research proposes the development of a prototype portable cooling system for motorcycle helmets by the physical principle of heat transfer, by using Peltier cells, to have low production cost, optimal operation, and low energy consumption thanks to natural air flow.

Résumé :
Purpose: World Health Organization reports that more than 1.2 million people die every year due to road transport related traffic accidents. In Kenya approximately one in every five death is due to road traffic accidents. In Vihiga County, motorcycles are the leading cause of accidents with victims increasing from 140 in 2008 to 338 in 2018. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to analyze motorcycle accident effects on household livelihood in Vihiga County, Kenya. Methodology: The study was modeled around the system theory. A descriptive research design was adopted with a target population of 140 respondents who were the victims of the road traffic accident were involved using the census technique. Data collection was done using questionnaires and interviews. Validity test was by construct validity while reliability test involved the use of Cronbach’ alpha. Data was analyzed into frequencies, cumulative frequencies and percentages using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 16). The study findings indicated that motorcycle accidents have an effect on livelihoods because families find it difficult accessing basic needs after their bread winner is involved in a road accident. There is an association between motorcycle accidents and access to food with chi-square of 4.487 and p-value of 0.016. Unique contribution to practice and policy: The study recommends that the government should train all riders to impart them with skills that will help reduce accidents and also revise the driving school curriculum in order to seal loopholes that see unqualified motorcycle riders on the road. National Transport and Safety authority to make known to the public blackspot areas especially in Hamisi sub county and ensure safety measures are taken to stop motorcycle accidents. Traffic police department to reinforce traffic rules especially on the use of helmets as most of the injuries that were fatal were as a result of riding without helmets. Ministry of education through the constituency development fund committee to identify children from families with victims of motorcycle accidents and ensure their fees is paid to avoid the high school dropout cases. The government to incorporate NGOs offering humanitarian services to consider including families of victims of motorcycle accidents in their feeding program to ensure they access food. Asia has the highest number of registered motorcycles globally, and the recent data has shown that motorcycles fatalities have been the main road death category in the Southeast Asian region. One of the major concerns is the visibility of motorcycles to other vehicles on the road. Thus, in this project, UN R46 and FMVSS regulations have been referred to as the base guidelines to establish a novel test protocol for vehicles rearward visibility assessment. Sixteen cars have been benchmarked and analysed in terms of their rear-view mirror (Class I) and external mirror (Class III) performance. Motorcycles visibility to the vehicles’ Class I and Class III mirrors also been assessed by converting the measured data into several motorcycles based on its width. A proposed performance scoring system for ASEAN NCAP has been developed based on that to address the Motorcycle Safety pillar.

Abstract: Today's engendering has a rage about faired bikes because they endeavour ergonomic glances as well as speeds. Although it has now graced a fact that most motorcycle accidents occur in darkness due to poor illumination and are more dangerous when the bike is cornering. As per the present contour of headlamps of fairing bikes, the headlamps become stable, giving rider vision at an upright position. These headlights do not provide enough illumination on bent roads and put riders in a vulnerable position. To overcome this dilemma, an alternative lighting system was needed. The goal of the project is to discover a cost-effective explication, increasing the safety and comfort of the rider. This called for cornering lights for faired bikes to persuade the road at the corner. The cornering lights serve riders by illuminating the shadowed area of the curve providing better vision. The Cornering lights can not only be useful in twilight but also bad weather, the rider can have a clear vision and control on the motorbike. The rider may react to the state of danger at an appropriate time. Résumé :
Motorcycle fatal accidents on roads in Malaysia are one of the major causes of death and injuries. There is a need to increase and improvise road safety awareness. In Malaysia, riders with hearing impairment are allowed to ride a motorcycle on the road but restrictions such as responding to the surrounding sounds, especially the sounds produced by the horns and emergency siren from other vehicles warrant a high degree of concern. In this work, a safety helmet is designed to aid the rider with hearing impairment, in detecting the sounds produced by the horns and emergency siren of vehicles. A simple mechanism is developed by using sound sensors as the input, light-emitting diode (LEDs) as the output, and Arduino Uno Board as the controller. The threshold of the sound sensor is 96 dB. When the sensor detected sound waves that exceed the threshold, the LEDs will turn on, which serves as the awareness indication for the rider with hearing impairment. The functionality of the sound detection mechanism in the designed safety helmet is tested based on its response to car and motorcycle horns. The sound intensity produced by car and motorcycle horns is in the range of 107 – 109 dB and 96 – 105 dB. Respectively. The functionality test was conducted at three different distances starting from 4.7m, 9.4m, and 14.10m and the developed system operates to detect the sound of horns in the range of 120-90 dB. Finite element analysis was also performed in analyzing the carbon fiber material for the designed safety helmet, which shows the least deformation (6.174 mm) with the stress of 1014 MPa resulting in the lowest strain of 0.01181 when the load of 3432N was applied to it vertically. Safety helmets that impair hearing with hearing aids are crucial for riders with hearing impairment. However, this work implements an alternative method that focused on using visual warning signals instead of audible warning signals, in aiding the riders with hearing impairment, especially completely deaf riders to stay alert and safe on the road.

Résumé :
An automobile braking system has a crucial role for safety of the passenger and riding quality of the vehicle. The brakingforce mainly depends on the normal reaction on the wheel and the coefficientof adhesion between the tire and the road surface. Sometimes the motorcycle may be over braked (Braking force exceeds the traction capacity between tire and ground) that increases vehicle stopping distance due to wheel sliding. So a variable braking force (VBF) system is developed in whichthe effective brake disc radius is variedbased on the pillion load on the motorcycle, for varying the rear wheel braking force that develops between tire and road surface. Whenever amotorcycleis loaded, the normal reaction on the rear wheel is increased. Thus the amount of braking force required to halt the motorcycle withminimum stopping distance and stability of the motorcycle, is based on the pillion load on the motorcycle. Hencethe amount of braking forcedeveloped between the road surface and the tire is varied in the variable braking force system. In this work, a mathematical modeling is developed and analyzed using MATLAB when the rear brake is applied for a motorcycleduring cornering for conventional disc brake system and the variable braking force system. It is found that variable braking force system develops more amount of yaw rate and lateral displacement when it is compared with conventional disc brake.

Résumé :
Purpose The braking system on motorcycles is of vital importance, taking into account that its operation is based on the friction between the surfaces in the contact that are found heat and, therefore, the brake liquid, the thermoelastic deformation on the contact surface, the degradation and failure of the material, as can be attributed to the safety of the occupants. The purpose of this paper is to perform mathematical calculations regarding the phenomena of the transfer of heat generated in the brake system. Design/methodology/approach Using SolidWorks simulation software, the geometric model of the three disc brakes of the different cylinders was carried out to identify the elements with the variations of the maximum temperature, and the verification with the calculations was made under ideal condition (80 Km/h and 12°C). Findings The results obtained show that with the mathematical calculations it was possible to validate the correct functioning of the braking system under different operating conditions, the systems that have higher capacity of displacement generate higher heat loss at higher speed so that their time of cooling according to Newton is major. Originality/value Through the analysis of finite elements, it was possible to identify that the braking system in severe working conditions is not overheated, assuring a natural convection cooling in approximately 12 min according to the mathematical calculations made.

Résumé :
The role of powered two-wheeler (PTW) transport from the perspective of a more sustainable mobility system is undermined by the associated high injury risk due to crashes. Motorcycle-based active safety systems promise to avoid or mitigate many of these crashes suffered by PTW riders. Despite this, most systems are still only in the prototype phase and understanding which systems have the greatest chance of reducing crashes is an important step in prioritizing their development. Earlier studies have examined the applicability of these systems to individual crash configurations, e.g., rear-end vs. intersection crashes. However, there may be large regional differences in the distribution of PTW crash configurations, motorcycle types, and road systems, and hence in the priority for the development of systems. The study objective is to compare the applicability of five active safety systems for PTWs in Australia, Italy, and the US using real-world crash data from each region. The analysis found stark differences in the expected applicability of the systems across the three regions. ABS generally resulted in the most applicable system, with estimated applicability in 45–60% of all crashes. In contrast, in 20–30% of the crashes in each country, none of the safety systems analyzed were found to be applicable. This has important implications for manufacturers and researchers, but also for regulators, which may demand country-specific minimum performance requirements for PTW active safety countermeasures.

Some of the accidents that occurred were caused by the negligence of passengers who did not pay attention to the clothes worn when riding a motorcycle. Generally, this happens to women who wear long headscarves or skirts that are too deep so that the hijab or skirt gets into the fingers or chain of the motorcycle until it becomes entangled and causes a single accident or even a series of accidents. According to Ghani (2018) published by detikNews, such an incident occurred in one of the Bayongbong Districts, Garut, where a mother and her child fell from a motorcycle and were run over by an elf car, both of whom died instantly at the scene. The long robe worn by the mother was wrapped in a motorcycle chain. As a result they fell from the motorbike but from the same direction the elf drove and crushed the mother's body. Conditions like this must be handled by proper precautions so that there are no more single or consecutive accidents caused by the entanglement of the hijab or the skirt worn by the passenger. This prevention can be done through an innovation that was created under the name Smart Alert as an effort to prevent the passenger's skirt or hijab from being wrapped around a motorcycle chain or spokes. Smart Alert will display the distance from the detected skirt or hijab. When it detects an object to be entangled, Smart Alert will issue a signal in the form of a blinking LED at a distance of ≤15 cm and <10 cm. If the object is within a distance of ≤10 cm dan <5 cm, the LED will turn on and the buzzer will sound simultaneously. However, when an object is detected within a range of ≤5 cm the system of Smart Alert will count down for 3 seconds. If within that time period the object to be entangled is detected again, the Smart Alert system will automatically disconnect the positive connection between the battery on the motorcycle and the coil so that the engine turns off and the motor stops automatically. Smart Alert as a smart tool that can anticipate the winding of the skirt when riding is placed at the bottom near the motorcycle chain. Smart Alert is expected to take on the role of being one of the technological innovations in the automotive industry that prioritizes passenger safety so that driving accidents can be avoided and minimized.

Résumé :
The suspension system is part of motorcycle that serves to absorb vibration and shocks of the road surface so as to improve the safety and comfort while driving. Motorcycle typically use double shockbreaker system which analogous to a two-spring system arranged in parallel. The aim of this researh is to analyze the model of the model of double shockbreaker motorcycle suspension system that working without outside force using passive suspension system. The data used are from damper tester experiment, then model analyzed using analytical method and the fourth order of numerical Runge-Kutta method. This research use shockbreaker observation datas that is the measurment data of spring constant and damping constant by performing damper tester using 4 different loads. The process model analysis using Matlab R2013a. Input variables are spring constant, damping constant, and the mass of the load. Methods of analysis using analytical method and the fourth order of Runge-Kutta method. While the resulting outputs are 2 spring constants, change the length of the spring, damping ratio, the optimal damping of the suspension, and the spring deflection chart against time. This model motorcycle suspension system uses solution of differential equations for the under damped suspension condition, that is the suspension system will be insulated a few moments before reaching the equilibrium position. Therefore, the resulting damping rate of the motorcycle is not optimal yet. This study found the optimal damping for each model of the suspension system. The level of accuracy of the fourth order of runge-kutta method for model analysis of the suspension system is quite high with error <0.1 and the timing of analysis is faster than the analytic method. Future research may use other methods or other input variables for more accurate analysis results.

Résumé :
A motorcycle has an electrical system that functions to make the vehicle operate and provide comfort and safety while driving. Generally, the electrical system on a motorcycle can be divided into three parts: the filling system, the lighting system, and the ignition system. In this study, an analysis was carried out on the body's electrical system, which has more functions in the lighting system. Examining the body's electrical system is carried out by checking the voltage, resistance, and current flowing in each electrical component. The results of these measurements are adjusted to the standard component specifications in the manual. Based on the results of the component inspection, it can be concluded that the inspection of the body's electrical system includes headlights, city lights, rear lights, turn signals, and horns on Nex-FI motorbikes after 5 years of operation in normal conditions according to standards and functions according to their respective roles.

Résumé :
The safety of a motorcycle is very important for vehicle owners. Until now, most motorbikes still rely only on the key to contact the vehicle itself. In the case of vehicle theft, it is very easy for the perpetrator of the theft to use the letter "T" key. Therefore an additional vehicle safety is required which is difficult to break apart from the ignition key. The purpose of this research is to design and implement motorcycle safety using Arduino-based Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) as additional vehicle safety. The author uses an RFID card / tag to add security to the vehicle starting system with a card / tag reading distance that can be read by an RFID reader. The ID code on the RFID Card must be inputted into the Arduino so that the RFID reader can read the ID Card that has been inputted into the Arduino. Based on the results of the tests that have been done, it is found that the reading distance of the RFID Card / Tag ranges from 1 cm to 3.5 cm. If the correct ID code is inputted, the electrical system is active and vice versa if the ID code entered is wrong, the buzzer will sound and the electrical system in the vehicle is not active / does not turn

Résumé :
Cases of motor vehicle theft are still common in the environment around us. The main cause is the knowledge of criminals, the dominant motorcycle security system is the same in every other motorcycle unit that uses a steering handlebar safety lock. Therefore the need for additional safety systems is felt very necessary to avoid motor vehicle theft. From the four tests conducted, the level of accuracy of location scanning by GPS experienced a difference in each test, this is due to the strength of the network received by the GPS device between the two devices, both from the researchers' GPS device and the GPS device attached to the vehicle unit, decreasing the relative accuracy between 6.8% and 17% in testing. The speed of response of the safety device is very dependent on the signal strength and the place where the vehicle or vehicle owner is owned by each provider, from the test delay calls are 3,2 seconds results,it was concluded that TELKOMSEL providers who have a more stable network. This is evidenced by the difference in the time of receipt of the response of vehicle safety devices when testing telephone delay calls and GPS testing. The advantage of this tool is that the assembling of components is quite simple compared to other electrical safety devices so that it is easy to peruse
