Résumé :
Construction has long been identified as an industry resistant to change and innovation, a reality that has prevailed to shape its overall reputation. The public sector includes an influential client type that dominates the major percentage of construction demand and is subject to public law. The Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) have been championed recently by the UK government and early adopters upon the emergence of data indicating their effectiveness in addressing key construction challenges. However, the uptake of MMC has been low among UK construction clients, particularly among public client organisations. Theories emerge across decades to inform researchers of variable clusters that can aid a broader understanding of decision-making and innovation adoption. One of the popular innovation theories suggests a relation between the characteristics of decision-makers and their own innovation decisions. This paper, therefore, aims to investigate the characteristics that are responsible for public clients’ low MMC uptake despite the associated relative advantages. Overall, 91 public client organisations have responded to this research’s survey, reflecting their organisation’s characteristics in line with the constructs adapted from the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory. Results suggest that among the ten influences that are captured from a detailed review of the literature, confidence in MMC firms supersedes all other factors in critically influencing the organisation’s favourable decision towards using MMC. Evidence provided in this paper suggests that a communication issue is presenting itself in the public construction sector, which is evident by the lack of confidence that public clients have in MMC businesses. This is the first study to utilise quantitative means to examine construction clients’ characteristics and relate the same to the adoption of construction innovation. Future research is encouraged to acknowledge the most influencing characteristics and detail how such knowledge can be embraced by supply to develop business models that can orchestrate better confidence in the public sector.

Résumé :
Currently, in the building industry is emphasizes the sustainability of construction. Sustainable buildings have low costs for energy consumption and operations, they are environmentally friendly, able to save natural resources and they are comfortable and healthy for their users. One of the factors contributing to this requirement is also application of more or less known materials and components through modern methods and technologies. Modern methods of construction (MMC) can be the way, how to achieve buildings, that can minimise the negative impacts of building life cycle on the environment. MMC can, in addition to increasing the efficiency of the construction, ensure the requirements resulting from Agenda 20-20-20 in energy consumption. The paper is focused on the research and comparison of two low-energy houses groups from technical and quality indicators point of view and especially from the perspective of relationship between construction cost and building volume. One of the groups is low-energy houses made of bricks by traditional methods (TM) and the second group representative of modern methods of construction are low-energy houses made of ceramic panels.

Résumé :
Abstract A range of new and innovative construction systems, currently developed, represent modern methods of construction (MMC), which has the ambition to improve the performance parameters of buildings throughout their life cycle. Regarding the implementation modern methods of construction in Slovakia, assembled buildings based on wood seem to be the most preferred construction system. In the study, presented in the paper, were searched already built and lived-in wood based family houses. The residents’ attitudes to such type of buildings in the context with declared designing and qualitative parameters of efficiency and sustainability are overlooked. The methodology of the research study is based on the socio-economic survey carried out during the years 2015 - 2017 within the Slovak Republic. Due to the large extent of data collected through questionnaire, only selected parts of the survey results are evaluated and discussed in the paper. This paper is aimed at evaluating the quality of buildings expressed in a view of users of existing wooden buildings. Research indicates some defects, which can be eliminated in the next production process. Research indicates, that some defects occur, so the production process quality should be improved in the future development.

Résumé :
Major efforts have been invested in the UK Residential sector to meet the increasing housing demands, deliver sustainability, and improve its resiliency against many uncertainties. While data/information within the UK residential sector relating to location, sizes and volumes are annually updated, there is limited emphasis on the methods of construction that support meeting housing demands. Over the years, it has been recognised that the UK residential sector has been dominated by two methods of construction: timber frame and masonry. This study aims to holistically compare timber frames with masonry as the two domineering construction methods for the UK residential sector. The comparison will be based on build costs, preference and drivers by construction professionals, longevity and consumer confidence, and sustainability. The research methodology was developed based on applying mixed methods of quantitative data analysis of build costs and qualitative data assessment of semi-structured interviews. The findings showed that, from a build cost perspective, masonry methods of construction are a more cost-effective choice with major variation in material cost. However, although the masonry method of construction was more favoured, in many respects, small-in-size developers show more tendency to timber frames, as this is being rationalised by meeting sustainability targets. Practical implications show that the future of the residential sector in meeting the housing demands would heavily depend on Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), as it offers a more optimised mechanism; however, the uptake of this is considerably low. Future studies will enquire into pillars to make MMC efficient in the UK residential sector.

Résumé :
Purpose This paper aims to provide insights into how supply chain integration may occur for small housebuilders adopting modern methods of construction (MMCs). The process of creating an empirically informed road map is described, whereby the practical day-to-day challenges of adopting a timber-frame solution on a small housing development in Southeast England were fed into a road map of future supply chain integration scenarios. The intention is to better position small housebuilders to contribute in addressing the shortfall in housing that continues to face the UK. Design/methodology/approach Interviews with supply chain members along with on-site observations captured key aspects of integration. Findings were used within two collaborative forums to guide discussion in a dual approach; discussing the challenges of timber-frame on the project and what would be needed on future projects for the firms analysed. Findings Empirically informed malleable roadmaps, of the kind developed within this study, provide feasible options for small housebuilders and suppliers of MMCs to collectively collaborate when transitioning towards fully integrated supply chains. Practically, the roadmapping approach, and the roadmap itself, would help small housebuilders and suppliers of MMCs transition towards full integration. Opening up avenues of integration that are spread across yet connected through numerous phases, firms and technologies helps construction professionals use more sophisticated modular and volumetric off-site solutions. Research limitations/implications Data collection took place over the course of a year. Future research could expand this relatively short duration to analyse the potential for construction professionals within the supply chain to integrate further over a longer period of time. Originality/value The novelty and contribution of this paper lie in the development and application of an alternative approach to roadmapping that departs from the normative linear examples of roadmaps found within the technology-roadmapping literature. The authors present a structured yet flexible approach to roadmapping that is both representative of the strategic planning and innovation activities that occur within small housebuilding firms and open to adaption to account for firm-level characteristics and contingencies. Positioned alongside firm-level dynamics (e.g. business cases and approaches to design), the roadmapping approach also reinforces the potential of incremental rather than whole-scale transitions.

The article analyzes construction of crypto-code designs (CCDs) on the basis of asymmetric Mac-Alice and Niederreiter crypto-code systems on elliptical (EC) and modified elliptic codes (MEC), which, in the conditions of post-quantum cryptography, allow to provide a guaranteed level of crypto stability, to counteract the modern Attacks and attack by V. Sidelnikov on the theoretical code schemes of McAlias and Niederreiter. Schemes of hybrid crypto-code designs constraction the lossy codes are addressed. Methods of constructing mechanisms of confidentiality and integrity of banking information resources under hybrid threats to security components (information security, cybersecurity, information security) are proposed. Using of a lossy code is suggested to this end. Lossy Code allow you to increase the speed of code changes by reducing the power of the field when causing damage to open text and reducing the amount of data transferred by causing harm to the cipher text. The methods of constructing unprofitable codes and approaches for use in hybrid KKK of McAlias and Niederreiter on modified elliptic codes are considered. Practical algorithms for the use of the MV2 mechanism in McAlias’ CCD and Niederreiter’s modified elliptic codes are proposed, which allows the implementation of the CCD hybrid scheme. The comparative results of the study of stability and power capacity with respect to their practical use in automated banking systems are presented.

Résumé :
Calculating Repeating Thermal Bridges (RTBs) for Timber Frame (TF) closed panels that could occur in Offsite Manufactured (OSM) Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), such as exterior walls for nearly-to-zero operational energy dwellings to be constructed in Wales, United Kingdom (UK) is discussed in this paper. Detailed calculations for linear RTBs due to the TF components are often neglected when evaluating thermal transmittance (known as U-values hereafter). The use of standard TF fractions does not allow the designer to perceive their detrimental impact on RTBs and consequent U-values for exterior walls. With the increase of the thermal performance of exterior walls and as such lower U-values due to ever-tightening Building Regulations, specifically related to the energy use and carbon emissions from the space heating of dwellings, then the impacts of RTBs requires more investigation. By not calculating the potential of linear RTB at the design stage could lead to a performance gap where assumed U-values for exterior walls differ from manufacture to onsite. A TF detail from the Welsh manufacture has been chosen as a case study, to develop and apply a methodology using manufacturing drawings to evaluate TF fraction and their effect on the thermal performance.

Résumé :
Abstract The urgency of renewing the Architecture, Engineering and Construction related processes to increase quality standards and performances while reducing costs and operations time is widely discussed in literature. In this scenario, increasing the energy renovation rate of the existing European building stock is a key priority to support the EU’s 2050 decarbonisation targets through innovative solutions. The introduction of prefabricated panels for building renovation – incorporating insulation, mechanical systems, and finishing – can provide the existing buildings with improved structural, thermal, acoustic, and architectural features. The higher quality and safety for the off-site activities, the faster on-site application and the reduction of waste are some advantages of this typology of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). Several digital and informative tools have been introduced over the last years to customize and integrate the design of prefabricated panels on existing building envelopes (i.e. panelisation tools). However, the comparison of technological alternatives is left to the intuition of designers and managed through the use of several tools that are not interconnected and often downstream the design process. This paper presents a Panelisation Design Tool, which is a Decision Support System (DSS) to help decision-makers in the choice of technological solutions for retrofitting operations during the Early Design Stage. Thanks to BIM integration, some indicators related to different aspects (n Dimensions) are extracted from the model of the panelised building to compare different technologies in a systematic way. The Panelisation Design Tool is tested on a case study building located in the city of Monza, in Northern Italy, used as a pilot in the BIM4EEB European Project. The test aimed at demonstrating the effectiveness of the chosen parameters to evaluate multiple technological solutions in an integrated BIM approach.

Résumé :
Aim and Objective: Antibiotic resistance is a serious constraint to the development of new effective antibacterials. Therefore, the discovery of the new antibacterials remains one of the main challenges in modern medicinal chemistry. This study was undertaken to identify novel molecules with antibacterial activity. Materials and Methods: Using our unique double-reporter system, in-house large-scale HTS campaign was conducted for the identification of antibacterial potency of small-molecule compounds. The construction allows us to visually assess the underlying mechanism of action. After the initial HTS and rescreen procedure, luciferase assay, C14-test, determination of MIC value and PrestoBlue test were carried out. Results: HTS rounds and rescreen campaign have revealed the antibacterial activity of a series of Nsubstituted triazolo-azetidines and their isosteric derivatives that has not been reported previously. Primary hit-molecule demonstrated a MIC value of 12.5 µg/mL against E. coli Δ tolC with signs of translation blockage and no SOS-response. Translation inhibition (26%, luciferase assay) was achieved at high concentrations up to 160 µg/mL, while no activity was found using C14-test. The compound did not demonstrate cytotoxicity in the PrestoBlue assay against a panel of eukaryotic cells. Within a series of direct structural analogues bearing the same or bioisosteric scaffold, compound 2 was found to have an improved antibacterial potency (MIC=6.25 µg/mL) close to Erythromycin (MIC=2.5-5 µg/mL) against the same strain. In contrast to the parent hit, this compound was more active and selective, and provided a robust IP position. Conclusion: N-substituted triazolo-azetidine scaffold may be used as a versatile starting point for the development of novel active and selective antibacterial compounds.

Résumé :
The research performed is actual because it is necessary to improve methods of calculations of rapid dynamic processes in electrical units. The object of research is the construction of a two-mass technological vibration unit with electromagnetic excitation. The subject of research is the method of calculation based on the created simulation model of the vibration unit dynamic cha-racteristics in transient and stationary modes with respect to a form and frequency of the source voltage. The mathematical model is based on non-linear differential equations of the electrical and mechanical balance. The main objective of research is the development of a simulation model of a two-mass technological vibration unit with electromagnetic excitation using modern methods of computer simulation. The example of the numerical implementation of the mathematical model by structural modeling methods in the Matlab Simulink is considered and the computer model of the electromagnetic vibration unit is created. The examples of the calculation of dynamical cha-racteristics of electromagnetic vibration unit for the analysis of electromechanical processes in transient and stationary modes are presented. Some of calculated values of integral indicators describing conversion processes of electric energy consumed from a power supply are given. The proposed simulation model of a technological vibration unit can be used to calculate rapid dyna-mic processes in different modes to provide a rational choice of vibration unit parameters when it is designed. The model is also useful for the analysis and synthesis of automatic systems to control the supplied voltage amplitude, frequency and form. The results of the research can be of particular interest to specialists in the area of machine strength dynamics and vibration protection.

Résumé :
The problem of the geopolitical stability of the country has always been the basis of sustainable economic development. CIS countries and their closest neighbours are the international centres where important transport and communication routes from Asia to Europe intersect. They have a wide range of various raw material reserves, which focuses the world community's attention and builds a separate vector of economic relations. The transformation processes that have taken place in recent years in countries have been due to scientific and technological progress, the intensity of global innovation, and globalization trends, which encourage the country to move to a new level of development. This article summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the place and prospects of CIS countries' international economic position in the formation of the basis for innovative development. The main purpose of the study is to confirm the hypothesis about the functional links between foreign trade and investment activities of countries and the level of innovative development of the country according to the level of economical development. The study's methodological tools were the methods of correlation-regression analysis and simultaneous structural equations, which allow formalizing both explicit and latent relationships between the studied objects. The study period was chosen from 2011 to 2018 because of statistical data availability. In this regard, the array of input data is presented in the form of regressors which identify the level of innovation development countries and three dependent variables (regressands) which indicate the dynamics of foreign trade turnover, doing business and total internal economic conditions. Besides, the variables from each defined block participate as both dependent and independent variables during the construction of the structural model. The results of the study could be useful for The Innovation Agencies, which are established under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of these countries that assist local business entities in acquiring modern technologies and technological solutions

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive literature review that seeks to address modern factors worldwide that are associated with the selection of current procurement methods. The aim is to develop an up-to-date multi-attribute procurement decision-making chart for selecting the appropriate method for the project. Design/methodology/approach – Stage 1 (literature review). The search engines, Emerald; Business Source Premier; Science Direct and Sage were selected to identify journals that have published the most procurement methods-related articles. The search covered the period 1980-2015. Stage 2 (Survey) – after analyzing and appraising the literature, an up-to-date utility decision-making chart for selecting the appropriate procurement method for the project was developed. The chart was based on findings from a survey that included 57 construction professionals and who have demonstrated sound experience about the various procurement options. Findings – There is no one best procurement method for all projects. The selection depends on the nature of the issues or problem at hand. Decision making is not a punctual act. It is often a complex process. Effective decision making also demands quality and timely information, and a careful consideration of alternatives. The multi-attribute decision-making chart presented in this paper has included modern criteria and the client would have end up with different recommendations and consequences should these criteria were not included in priority weightings. Practical implications – The literature review provides states-of-the art research in the field of procurement methods in construction and the multi-attribute chart is intended to offer decision makers an opportunity to broaden their horizon on the different alternatives procurement routs that could lead to different consequences. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, very few publications have discussed modern selection criteria for procurement methods in construction under one study. Therefore, this paper has established a platform for scholars and researchers to obtain more useful insights into procurement methods concerns. It has identified research trends in procurement methods which may allow industrial practitioners to appreciate the key concerns in their development of modern concepts and principles such as supply chain, lean construction, sustainability, innovation, value engineering, e-procurement and Building information modeling. The inclusion of these modern criteria will present and add value to procurement decision makers within the construction industry.

Résumé :
The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a keystone of modern energy transmission systems. Consequently, there is an ongoing pursue for mathematical models to represent it under different configurations and control approaches. In short, this paper introduces an analytical Thévenin-equivalent model for representing the MMC when it is controlled with inner current- and an outer voltage-loop altogether. The model is based on a linearized representation of the converter and conveys the dynamics of passive components, such as submodule capacitors and arm reactors, as well as both control loops. Besides that, the proposed model is divided into a close-loop transfer matrix and the equivalent impedance matrix, both of which represent the relationships between the ac-side dq voltages and currents. We also propose a framework for implementing electromagnetic–transient simulations using the impedance model of this power electronic converter. The framework reduces a multi-bus power grid to a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) feedback system where impedance/admittance matrices of the MMC and other grid elements compose its loops. For validation purposes, it is considered a three-bus power grid comprising one MMC and another two grid-connected VSC. The proposed model was validated by comparing its results with a switching-level PSCAD model of the system.

Résumé :
In the presented article there will be discussed measures which allow to lower expenses for the maintenance of the machinery and which contribute to the increase of energy saving in general. To achieve these goals, it is proposed to apply modern methods of organizing and operation works, to use high-tech construction equipment, and also to form an optimal mechanization complex of building and construction works. The optimization criterion is the cost of work. When determining costs for the operation of construction machinery at the site, we take into account their energy efficiency, compare the options and manage the most efficient fleet of construction equipment. In the course of meeting the task, there were drawn conclusions which demonstrate that an integrated approach to the formation of machinery parks on the construction site allows to use the available resources more rationally, in order to improve the environmental component and improve the quality of construction work.

By every indicator—methodology, citations, paper titles—students of Arabic literature have been courting “theory” for decades. From the 1970s on, scholars have approached classical and modern Arabic literature with theoretical models that draw explicitly on structuralism, deconstruction, psychoanalysis, feminism, Marxism, semiotics, performance studies, and so on. That said, until recently the mainstream of modern Arabic studies continued to use methods inherited from Orientalist scholars working on classical texts.

The energy and resource economy are for many countries the key words in there live, which, in case of science, is the intelligence resource application, define the further way of development of technologies. The present paper reveals one of the energy efficient ways of science investigation in light construction of materials. The small hollow spheres made from different materials could change the weight of a construction part essentially, used as acoustic and thermal insulation and also as protection against vibrations and energy, induced by plastic deformation of material. They can be used as a unit cell for big parts and alone filled with an inert gas, e.g. fusion targets. The methods of their production could be divided in chemical, powder and metallurgical. The metallurgical method requires the intelligence application, because it is based on the own properties of the materials and boundary conditions of the process, not involving any organically core and preparation of the powder.

Résumé :
Currently, we are witnessing the significant impact of industrial activity on the environment. A recent study shows that construction is the third largest industry sector in terms of environmental pollution. One option to reduce these negative effects is environmental assessment of buildings, as well as the used building materials. One of the most comprehensive environmental assessment methods is LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), which includes the assessment of impacts within mode ”Cradle-to-gate” which is focused on assessment of a partial product life cycle from resource extraction (cradle) to the factory gate (i.e., before it is transported to the consumer). The aim of this paper is a comparison of the environmental impact of selected material variants applied within modern methods of construction. The comparison will be processed through the results of the case study containing three material variants of family houses construction in term of three selected parameters - embodied energy, global warming potential and acidification potential.

Résumé :
This work is aimed at studying the physicochemical processes and establishing the functional dependence of the strength parameters on the sulfur concentration in the composite. The introduction of sulfur in the composite contributes to a change in strength properties, an increase in frost resistance. The dependence of strength on sulfur concentration was studied. The experimental function is determined analytically by solving a system of linear algebraic equations consisting of canonical equations of a given approximating function. The behavior of the dependence of strength on the concentration of nanotubes at two intervals is plotted graphically. Further studies are needed to gain a complete picture of the composite and its characteristics. Nowadays, the results of determining the deformative characteristics are being processed, the impact of the water-cement ratio, the equivalent economic assessment are being studied. At present, an analytical description of the physicochemical and physicomechanical dependencies is being carried out, and an aggregate mathematical model is being built. The results will be presented to the public at subsequent scientific and research conferences.

Résumé :
Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is distinguished by its modularity. In order to improve its reliability and avoid unscheduled maintenance, it requires the MMC to continue operating even though some of its submodules (SMs) have failed. In this paper, a grouping management method of SMs in MMC is first presented where every six SMs are conceptually grouped into a virtual subunit (SU), and on this basis, a simplified space vector modulation (SVM) implementation is developed. Then, the fault-tolerant solutions are proposed by investigating the post-fault operation of the MMC based on the virtual SU concept. It is analyzed that the SU failures can be categorized into three basic types, according to the phase where the failed SMs are located, and also multiple SM failures can be decomposed into one or multiple basic fault types. In this way, the fault-tolerant solutions are unified regardless of the number of faulty SMs. Further, the sorting capacitor voltage control is combined into the proposed methods to balance all of the SM capacitor voltages. With the proposed fault-tolerant method, the amplitude and THD of the line voltages are almost unchanged under fault conditions when compared with normal operations. The simulation and experiment verify the propositions.
