Résumé :
We review a number of results for the spectrum and inclusive decays of heavy quarkonium systems which can be derived from QCD under well controlled approximations. They essentially follow from the hierarchy of scales in these systems, which can be efficiently exploited using non-relativistic effective field theories. In particular, we discuss under which conditions non-relativistic potential models emerge as effective theories of QCD.

Résumé :
Experimental observations and theoretical arguments at Galaxy and larger scales have suggested that a large fraction of the Universe is composed by Dark Matter (DM) particles. This has motivated the DAMA experimental efforts to investigate the presence of such particles in the galactic halo by exploiting a model independent signature with highly radiopure setups deep underground. In this paper, a review of the results obtained with the total exposure of 1.04 ton × yr collected by DAMA/LIBRA–phase1 deep underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS) of the INFN during seven annual cycles is given. The DAMA/LIBRA–phase1 data give evidence for the presence of DM particles in the galactic halo, on the basis of the exploited model independent DM annual modulation signature by using highly radiopure NaI(Tl) target, at 7.5[Formula: see text] C.L. Including also the data of the first generation DAMA/NaI experiment (cumulative exposure 1.33 ton × yr, corresponding to 14 annual cycles), the C.L. is 9.3[Formula: see text] and the modulation amplitude of the single-hit scintillation events in the (2–6) keV energy interval is: (0.0112 ± 0.0012) cpd/kg/keV; the measured phase is (144 ± 7) days and the measured period is (0.998 ± 0.002) yr, values well in agreement with those expected for DM particles. No systematic or side reaction able to mimic the exploited DM signature has been found or suggested by anyone over more than a decade.

Résumé :
The first results obtained by the DAMA/LIBRA–phase2 experiment are presented. The data have been collected over six independent annual cycles corresponding to a total exposure of 1.13 ton × year, deep underground at the Gran Sasso National Laboratory. The DAMA/LIBRA–phase2 apparatus, about 250 kg highly radio-pure NaI(Tl), profits from a second generation high quantum efficiency photomultipliers and of new electronics with respect to DAMA/LIBRA–phase1. The improved experimental configuration has also allowed to lower the software energy threshold. The DAMA/LIBRA–phase2 data confirm the evidence of a signal that meets all the requirements of the model independent Dark Matter annual modulation signature, at 9.5 σ C.L. in the energy region (1–6) keV. In the energy region between 2 and 6 keV, where data are also available from DAMA/NaI and DAMA/LIBRA–phase1, the achieved C.L. for the full exposure (2.46 ton × year) is 12.9 σ .

Résumé :
We propose a model-independent approach to study entanglement creation due to the dynamics between two asymptotic quantum regimes in the framework of homogeneous and isotropic universe. We realize it by Padé expansion to reconstruct the functional form of scale factor, rather than postulating it a priori. This amounts to fix the Padé approximants constraining the free parameters in terms of current cosmic observations. Assuming fermions, we solve the Dirac equation for massive particles and we investigate entanglement entropy in terms of modes [Formula: see text] and mass [Formula: see text]. We consider two rational approximations of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] orders, which turn out to be the most suitable choices for guaranteeing cosmic bounds. Our results show qualitative agreement with those known in literature and arising from toy models, but with sensible quantitative discrepancies. Moreover, our outcomes are model-independent reconstructions which show that any higher orders departing from [Formula: see text] do not significantly modify particle–antiparticle production (hence entanglement), if cosmic bounds are taken into account.

Résumé :
Grid computing facilitates the resource sharing through the administrative domains which are geographically distributed. Scheduling in a distributed heterogeneous environment is intrinsically very hard because of the heterogeneous nature of resource collection. Makespan and tardiness are two different measures of scheduling, and many of the previous researches concentrated much on reduction of makespan, which measures the machine utilization. In this paper, we propose a hybrid scheduling algorithm for scheduling independent grid tasks with the objective of reducing total weighted tardiness of grid tasks. Tardiness is to measure the due date performance, which has a direct impact on cost for executing the jobs. In this paper we propose BG_ATC algorithm which is a combination of best gap (BG) search and Apparent Tardiness Cost (ATC) indexing algorithm. Furthermore, we implemented these two algorithms in two different phases of the scheduling process. In addition to that, the comparison was made on results with various benchmark algorithms and the experimental results show that our algorithm outperforms the benchmark algorithms.

Résumé :
The excess in cosmic-ray positrons and electrons observed by PAMELA, ATIC, PPB-BET and Fermi can be explained by dark matter decay or annihilation. On the other hand, the negative results from CDMS II and XENON direct detections of dark matter put an upper limit on the elastic-scattering cross section between dark matter and nucleon. We adopted model-independent approaches to study dark matter in cosmic-ray electrons, gamma-ray, relic density, direct detection experiments and LHC. We studied the distribution of the cosmic-ray electron flux observed at the Earth and found that it can reflect the initial energy spectrum of electrons generated from dark matter decay or annihilation even after propagation. We also derive constraints on the decay rate of dark matter into various two-body final states using Fermi and HESS gamma-ray data. We found that the μ+μ- or τ+τ- final state is favored in order to simultaneously explain electron excess and meet all gamma-ray constraints. Finally, we examined various tree-level induced operators of dimension six and constrain them using the current experimental data, including the WMAP data of the relic abundance and CDMS II direct detection of the spin-independent scattering. The implication of LHC search is also explored.

Résumé :
A 5-degrees-of-freedom shimmy model is established to analyse the dynamic responses of an electric vehicle with independent suspensions. Tyre elasticity is considered by means of Pacejka’s magic formula. Under the nonslip assumption for the leading contact point, tyre–road constraint equations are derived. Numerical simulation is conducted with different structural parameters and initial conditions to observe the shimmy phenomenon. Simulation results indicate that Hopf bifurcation occurs at a certain vehicle forward speed. Moreover, suspension structural parameters, such as caster angle, affect wheel shimmy. The linearized model of the system presents the stability boundaries, which agree with the simulation results. The results of this study not only provide a theoretical reference for shimmy attenuation, but also validate the effectiveness of the provided model, which can be used in further dynamic analysis of vehicle shimmy.

They are the radial fundamental mode, an l = 1, g1 triplet, an l = 1, p1 doublet and an l = 1, p2 singlet. Seismic model calculations by two independent teams suggest that it is not possible to explain the pulsational behaviour of ν Eri with standard stellar models. Some modifications of the input physics are required.

Résumé :
Most people nowadays depend on the Web as a primary source of information. Statistical studies show that young people obtain information mainly from Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. By relying on these data, people may risk drawing the incorrect conclusions when reading the news or planning to buy a product. Therefore, systems that can detect and classify sentiments and assist users in finding the correct information on the Web is highly needed in order to prevent Web surfers from being easily deceived. This paper proposes an intensive study regarding domain-independent classification models for sentiment analysis that should be trained only once. The study consists of two phases: the first phase is based on a deep learning model which is training a neural network model once after extracting robust features and saving the model and its parameters. The second phase is based on applying the trained model on a totally new dataset, aiming at correctly classifying reviews as positive or negative. The proposed model is trained on the IMDb dataset and then tested on three different datasets: IMDb dataset, Movie Reviews dataset, and our own dataset collected from Amazon reviews that rate users’ opinions regarding Apple products. The work shows high performance using different evaluation metrics compared to the stat-of-the-art results.

Résumé :
An active noise control (ANC) system is model dependent/independent if its controller transfer function is dependent/independent on initial estimates of path models in a sound field. Since parameters of path models in a sound field will change when boundary conditions of the sound field change, model-independent ANC systems (MIANC) are able to tolerate variations of boundary conditions in sound fields and more reliable than model-dependent counterparts. A possible way to implement MIANC systems is online path modeling. Many such systems require invasive probing signals (persistent excitations) to obtain accurate estimates of path models. In this study, a noninvasive MIANC system is proposed. It uses online path estimates to cancel feedback, recover reference signal, and optimize a stable controller in the minimum H2 norm sense, without any forms of persistent excitations. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are presented to demonstrate the stable control performance of the proposed system.

Credible and fair election can only be realized if managed by an independent institution. The Constitution states that elections are carried out by independent electoral management bodies without further explanation of the meaning of independence. Through normative legal research methods and by using statutory and case approaches, this research aims to find out the model of post-reform election management bodies and the meaning of independence of Article 22E paragraph (5) of the 1945 Constitution based on Constitutional Court interpretation. The results of this research found that the post-reform election organizing model is an independent model that does not involve representatives of political parties and bureaucracy. As can be seen from the judicial review rulings, the Constitutional Court interprets that the independence of election management bodies desired by the 1945 Constitution includes institutional independence, functional independence and personal independence.

Abstract: This study was motivated by the phenomenon of independent learning elementary school children who tend to be low. This can be observed from the tendency of primary school age children dependent on parents, friends and tutors in the homework, cheating when it replicates and mimics the work of friends. The purpose of this study was to develop a model of information services with symbolic techniques to develop independent learning model of primary school age children. The results showed that the value of t obtained figures on chances of error 0.000 9.682 less than the chance of error (p) = 0.05 or in other forms 0.000 <0.05, which means significant. Furthermore, a different test showed that the average post-test bigger with 59.26 value compared with the value of the pre-test of 49.96. Thus, the alternative hypothesis that reads information service model by using symbolic models can significantly improve student learning independence supported or accepted. Keywords: Independence learning, information services, symbolic models

Résumé :
Sign Language Recognition (SLR) has become an appealing topic in modern societies because such technology can ideally be used to bridge the gap between deaf and hearing people. Although important steps have been made towards the development of real-world SLR systems, signer-independent SLR is still one of the bottleneck problems of this research field. In this regard, we propose a deep neural network along with an adversarial training objective, specifically designed to address the signer-independent problem. Specifically, the proposed model consists of an encoder, mapping from input images to latent representations, and two classifiers operating on these underlying representations: (i) the sign-classifier, for predicting the class/sign labels, and (ii) the signer-classifier, for predicting their signer identities. During the learning stage, the encoder is simultaneously trained to help the sign-classifier as much as possible while trying to fool the signer-classifier. This adversarial training procedure allows learning signer-invariant latent representations that are in fact highly discriminative for sign recognition. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and its capability of dealing with the large inter-signer variations.

Résumé :
We determine the transformation matrix that maps multiple images with identifiable resolved features onto one another and that is based on a Taylor-expanded lensing potential in the vicinity of a point on the critical curve within our model-independent lens characterisation approach. From the transformation matrix, the same information about the properties of the critical curve at fold and cusp points can be derived as we previously found when using the quadrupole moment of the individual images as observables. In addition, we read off the relative parities between the images, so that the parity of all images is determined when one is known. We compare all retrievable ratios of potential derivatives to the actual values and to those obtained by using the quadrupole moment as observable for two- and three-image configurations generated by a galaxy-cluster scale singular isothermal ellipse. We conclude that using the quadrupole moments as observables, the properties of the critical curve are retrieved to a higher accuracy at the cusp points and to a lower accuracy at the fold points; the ratios of second-order potential derivatives are retrieved to comparable accuracy. We also show that the approach using ratios of convergences and reduced shear components is equivalent to ours in the vicinity of the critical curve, but yields more accurate results and is more robust because it does not require a special coordinate system as the approach using potential derivatives does. The transformation matrix is determined by mapping manually assigned reference points in the multiple images onto one another. If the assignment of the reference points is subject to measurement uncertainties under the influence of noise, we find that the confidence intervals of the lens parameters can be as large as the values themselves when the uncertainties are larger than one pixel. In addition, observed multiple images with resolved features are more extended than unresolved ones, so that higher-order moments should be taken into account to improve the reconstruction precision and accuracy.

Résumé :
In a deregulating environment, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is used to estimate the harmonic currents of non linear loads as it does not require information about the topology of the network. However, analysis is done by ignoring the effect of various noises that creep into the measurement system. In the present work, the effect of environmental noise on a simple interconnected power system with five buses is taken up. The two algorithms namely Fast ICA (FICA) and Efficient Variant Fast ICA(EFICA) are used for the analysis. A fixed noise is added and it is eliminated using whitening technique The simulation results of both algorithms show that noise elimination by whitening technique is highly successful. However, EFICA gives better results than FICA when random fluctuations of load exist rather than when fixed variations exist.

The first DAMA/LIBRA–phase2 model-independent results (exposure: [Formula: see text], and software energy threshold at 1 keV). They further confirm — with high confidence level — the evidence already observed by DAMA/NaI and DAMA/LIBRA–phase1 on the basis of the exploited model-independent dark matter (DM) annual modulation signature. The total exposure of the three experiments above the 2 keV software energy threshold is [Formula: see text]. Here, several DM candidate particles and related scenarios are analyzed including the latest results. Thanks to the increased exposure and to the lower software energy threshold, corollary model-dependent analyses permit to significantly restrict the allowed regions for the parameters spaces of various dark matter candidates and astrophysical, particle and nuclear physics scenarios.

Résumé :
This paper proposes a storage-independent model for SPARQL-to-SQL translation algorithm based on relational view. During the development of Web ontology researches, the study for translation from SPARQL to SQL still remain issue. Previous researches focus on efficient and complete translation from SPARQL queries into equivalent SQL queries. However, these translation algorithms depend on specific structure of storages. When we modify the structure of storage, the translation algorithm also should be modified suitable changed structure of storage. This motivates us to study the issue of a model for independent use upon storage structures of an algorithm, which can then be guaranteed independency between translation algorithms and storages by generating relational view, and it improves application and usability of a translation algorithm. In addition, this paper show experiment result about accuracy and no data loss rate of query results on several storages.

Résumé :
Residential burglary is a social problem in every major urban area. As such, progress has been to develop quantitative, informative and applicable models for this type of crime: (1) the Deterministic-time-step (DTS) model [Short, D’Orsogna, Pasour, Tita, Brantingham, Bertozzi & Chayes (2008) Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci.18, 1249–1267], a pioneering agent-based statistical model of residential burglary criminal behaviour, with deterministic time steps assumed for arrivals of events in which the residential burglary aggregate pattern formation is quantitatively studied for the first time; (2) the SSRB model (agent-based stochastic-statistical model of residential burglary crime) [Wang, Zhang, Bertozzi & Short (2019) Active Particles, Vol. 2, Springer Nature Switzerland AG, in press], in which the stochastic component of the model is theoretically analysed by introduction of a Poisson clock with time steps turned into exponentially distributed random variables. To incorporate independence of agents, in this work, five types of Poisson clocks are taken into consideration. Poisson clocks (I), (II) and (III) govern independent agent actions of burglary behaviour, and Poisson clocks (IV) and (V) govern interactions of agents with the environment. All the Poisson clocks are independent. The time increments are independently exponentially distributed, which are more suitable to model individual actions of agents. Applying the method of merging and splitting of Poisson processes, the independent Poisson clocks can be treated as one, making the analysis and simulation similar to the SSRB model. A Martingale formula is derived, which consists of a deterministic and a stochastic component. A scaling property of the Martingale formulation with varying burglar population is found, which provides a theory to the finite size effects. The theory is supported by quantitative numerical simulations using the pattern-formation quantifying statistics. Results presented here will be transformative for both elements of application and analysis of agent-based models for residential burglary or in other domains.

The DAMA/LIBRA experiment (~ 250 kg sensitive mass composed by highly radio-pure NaI(Tl)) is in data taking in the underground Laboratory of Gran Sasso (LNGS). In its first phase (DAMA/LIBRA-phase1) this experiment and the former DAMA/NaI experiment (~ 100 kg of highly radio-pure NaI(Tl)) collected data for 14 independent annual cycles, exploiting the model-independent Dark Matter (DM) annual modulation signature (total exposure 1.33 ton x yr). A DM annual modulation effect has been observed at 9.3 σ C.L., supporting the presence of DM particles in the galactic halo. No systematic or side reaction able to mimic the observed DM annual modulation has been found or suggested by anyone. Recent analyses on possible diurnal effects, on the Earth shadowing effect and on possible interpretation in terms of Mirror DM will be mentioned. Résumé :
About thirty years ago, the concept of the complexity of the problem was proposed. The most important complex class is P and NP class. Fruitful results of this concept are the existence of the so-called complex class complete problem. If the other issues of this class once solved in polynomial time, then the problem must exist polynomial time algorithms. Therefore, the complete problem is most difficult to solve, but because of their presence, we can choose any of them improved algorithm for a problem, so this kind of problem to get a good solution. DNA computing is a novel method that solving a class of intractable computational problems, in which the computing speeds up exponentially with the problem size. Up to now, many accomplishments have been made to improve its performance and increase its reliability. Maximum Independent Set problem (MIS) is a well-known NP-complete problem. Maximum Clique and Minimum Vertex Covering problem is equivalent to Maximum Independent Set problem. In this paper, we explore solving Maximum Independent Set problem by transforming it into equivalent 0-1 programming problem, and utilizing the surface computing model of that. The proposed method demonstrates universal nature of NP-complete problem.

Résumé :
We investigated the effect of acute hypoxia (AH) on dynamic cerebral autoregulation (CA) using two independent assessment techniques to clarify previous, conflicting reports. Twelve healthy volunteers (6 men, 6 women) performed six classic leg cuff tests, three breathing normoxic (FiO2 = 0.21) and three breathing hypoxic (FiO2 = 0.12) gas, using a single blinded, Latin squares design with 5-min washout between trials. Continuous measurements of middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (CBFv; DWL MultiDop X2) and radial artery blood pressure (ABP; Colin 7000) were recorded in the supine position during a single experimental session. Autoregulation index (ARI) scores were calculated using the model of Tiecks et al. (Tiecks FP, Lam AM, Aaslid R, Newell DW. Stroke 26: 1014–1019, 1995) from ABP and CBFv changes following rapid cuff deflation (cuff ARI) and from ABP to CBFv transfer function, impulse, and step responses (TFA ARI) obtained during a 4-min period prior to cuff inflation. A new measure of %CBFv recovery 4 s after peak impulse was also derived from TFA. AH reduced cuff ARI (5.65 ± 0.70 to 5.01 ± 0.96, P = 0.04), TFA ARI (4.37 ± 0.76 to 3.73 ± 0.71, P = 0.04), and %Recovery (62.2 ± 10.9% to 50.8 ± 9.9%, P = 0.03). Slight differences between TFA and cuff ARI values may be attributed to heightened sympathetic activity during cuff tests as well as differential sensitivity to low- and high-frequency components of CA. Together, results provide consistent evidence that CA is impaired with AH. In addition, these findings demonstrate the potential utility of TFA ARI and %Recovery scores for future CA investigations.

Résumé :
Context. Local gravitational lensing properties, such as convergence and shear, determined at the positions of multiply imaged background objects, yield valuable information on the smaller-scale lensing matter distribution in the central part of galaxy clusters. Highly distorted multiple images with resolved brightness features like the ones observed in CL0024 allow us to study these local lensing properties and to tighten the constraints on the properties of dark matter on sub-cluster scale. Aim. We investigate to what precision local magnification ratios, $\mathcal{J}$, ratios of convergences, f, and reduced shears, g = (g1, g2), can be determined independently of a lens model for the five resolved multiple images of the source at zs = 1.675 in CL0024. We also determine if a comparison to the respective results obtained by the parametric modelling tool Lenstool and by the non-parametric modelling tool Grale can detect biases in the models. For these lens models, we analyse the influence of the number and location of the constraints from multiple images on the lens properties at the positions of the five multiple images of the source at zs = 1.675. Methods. Our model-independent approach uses a linear mapping between the five resolved multiple images to determine the magnification ratios, ratios of convergences, and reduced shears at their positions. With constraints from up to six multiple image systems, we generate Lenstool and Grale models using the same image positions, cosmological parameters, and number of generated convergence and shear maps to determine the local values of $\mathcal{J}$, f, and g at the same positions across all methods. Results. All approaches show strong agreement on the local values of $\mathcal{J}$, f, and g. We find that Lenstool obtains the tightest confidence bounds even for convergences around one using constraints from six multiple-image systems, while the best Grale model is generated only using constraints from all multiple images with resolved brightness features and adding limited small-scale mass corrections. Yet, confidence bounds as large as the values themselves can occur for convergences close to one in all approaches. Conclusions. Our results agree with previous findings, support the light-traces-mass assumption, and the merger hypothesis for CL0024. Comparing the different approaches can detect model biases. The model-independent approach determines the local lens properties to a comparable precision in less than one second.

Résumé :
Background. The prediction of functional outcomes after spinal cord injury (SCI) is essential to plan the rehabilitation phase and the social reintegration. Recently, 2 models to predict independent and reliable bowel management 1 year after traumatic SCI have been derived and validated in 2 cohorts of patients included in the European Multicenter Study about Spinal Cord Injury (EMSCI). Objective. We aimed to validate 2 prediction models for bowel outcome after traumatic SCI in a patient sample external to EMSCI. Methods. The simplified model (based on a single predictor, the International Standards for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury [ISNCSCI] total motor score) and the full model (based on 2 predictors, the ISNCSCI total motor score and item 3a of the Spinal Cord Independence Measure) were applied to the retrospectively collected data of 111 patients with traumatic SCI. Results. The simplified and the full models showed excellent discrimination with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of .939 (95% confidence interval (CI) .87-1.00) and .922 (95% CI 0.85-.99), respectively. Both models displayed similar results for sensitivity and negative predictive values; however, the simplified model showed higher values for specificity, positive predictive values, and accuracy. The calibration analysis showed a partial overlap between predicted probabilities and observed proportion, with better and acceptable calibration for the simplified model. Conclusions. Using an independent sample, our study demonstrates the validity of a simple model to predict independent and reliable bowel management 1 year after traumatic SCI.

Résumé :
Abstract Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are increasingly used to estimate and correct for classification error in categorical, longitudinal data, without the need for a “gold standard,” error-free data source. To accomplish this, HMMs require multiple observations over time on a single indicator and assume that the errors in these indicators are conditionally independent. Unfortunately, this “local independence” assumption is often unrealistic, untestable, and a source of serious bias. Linking independent data sources can solve this problem by making the local independence assumption plausible across sources, while potentially allowing for local dependence within sources. However, record linkage introduces a new problem: the records may be erroneously linked or incorrectly not linked. In this paper, we investigate the effects of linkage error on HMM estimates of transitions between employment contract types. Our data come from linking a labor force survey to administrative employer records; this linkage yields two indicators per time point that are plausibly conditionally independent. Our results indicate that both false-negative and false-positive linkage error turn out to be problematic primarily if the error is large and highly correlated with the dependent variable. Moreover, under certain conditions, false-positive linkage error (mislinkage) in fact acts as another source of misclassification that the HMM can absorb into its error-rate estimates, leaving the latent transition estimates unbiased. In these cases, measurement error modeling already accounts for linkage error. Our results also indicate where these conditions break down and more complex methods would be needed.

Résumé :
Abstract Fish stock assessment models often rely on size- or age-specific observations that are assumed to be statistically independent of each other. In reality, these observations are not raw observations, but rather they are estimates from a catch-standardization model or similar summary statistics based on observations from many fishing hauls and subsamples of the size and age composition of the data. Although aggregation mitigates the strong intra-haul correlation between sizes/ages that is usually found in haul-by-haul data, violations of the independence assumption can have a large impact on the results and specifically on reported confidence bounds. A state-space assessment model that allows for correlations between age groups within years in the observation model for catches and surveys is presented and applied to data on several North Sea fish stocks using various correlation structures. In all cases the independence assumption is rejected. Less fluctuating estimates of the fishing mortality is obtained due to a reduced process error. The improved model does not suffer from correlated residuals unlike the independent model, and the variance of forecasts is decreased.

Résumé :
We show that the results from searching 2D images or a video sequence, with a 3D head model can be improved by using detailed sub-models. These parts are initialised with the full model result and are allowed to search independently of that model, and of each other, using the same algorithm. The final results for the sub-models can be reported exactly, or optionally fed back into the full model to be constrained by its parameter space. In the case of a video sequence this can then be used in the initialisation of the next frame. We tested various data sets, constrained and unconstrained, including a variety of lighting conditions, poses, and expressions. Our investigation showed that using the sub-models improved on the original full model result on all but one of the data sets.
