Résumé :
We analyze the degenerate transient multi-dimensional quasi-hydrodynamic model for semiconductors with general recombination rate. We present existence results for general nonlinear diffusivities for the nondegenerate and the degenerate Dirichlet-Neumann mixed boundary value problem. Uniqueness of solutions of the nondegenerate system can be proved in the Dirichlet boundary case. Concerning the degenerate problem uniqueness can only be shown under some conditions on the initial and boundary data or on the electric field.

Abstract We verify the maximum conjecture on the rigidity of totally nondegenerate model CR manifolds in the following two cases: (i) for all models of CR dimension one, (ii) for the so-called full-models, namely those in which their associated symbol algebras are free CR. In particular, we discover that in each arbitrary CR dimension and length {\geq 3} , there exists at least one totally nondegenerate model, enjoying this conjecture. Our proofs rely upon some recent results in the Tanaka theory of transitive prolongation of fundamental algebras.

Résumé :
Scalar fields are favorite among the possible candidates for the dark energy. Most frequently discussed are those with degenerate minima at [Formula: see text]. In this paper, a slightly modified two-Higgs doublet model is taken to contain the Higgs field(s) as the dark energy candidate(s). The model considered has two nondegenerate minima at [Formula: see text], instead of one degenerate minimum at [Formula: see text]. The component fields of one SU(2) doublet ([Formula: see text]) act as the standard model (SM) Higgs, while the component fields of the second doublet ([Formula: see text]) are taken to be the dark energy candidates (lying in the true vacuum). It is found that one can arrange for late time acceleration (dark energy) by using an SU(2) Higgs doublet, whose vacuum expectation value is zero, in the quintessential regime.

Résumé :
An exhaustive analysis of local and global bifurcations in an enzyme-catalyzed reaction model is carried out. The model, given by a planar five-parameter system of autonomous ordinary differential equations, presents a great richness of bifurcations. This enzyme-catalyzed model has been considered previously by several authors, but they only detected a minimal part of the dynamical and bifurcation behavior exhibited by the system. First, we study local bifurcations of equilibria up to codimension-three (saddle-node, cusps, nondegenerate and degenerate Hopf bifurcations, and nondegenerate and degenerate Bogdanov–Takens bifurcations) by using analytical and numerical techniques. The numerical continuation of curves of global bifurcations allows to improve the results provided by the study of local bifurcations of equilibria and to detect new homoclinic connections of codimension-three. Our analysis shows that such a system exhibits up to sixteen different kinds of homoclinic orbits and thirty different configurations of equilibria and periodic orbits. The coexistence of up to five periodic orbits is also pointed out. Several bifurcation sets are sketched in order to show the dynamical behavior the system exhibits. The different codimension-one and -two bifurcations are organized around five codimension-three degeneracies.

A connected real analytic hypersurface M⊂Cn+1 whose Levi form is nondegenerate in at least one point—hence at every point of some Zariski-dense open subset—is locally biholomorphic to the model Heisenberg quadric pseudosphere of signature (k,n-k) in one point if and only if, at every other Levi nondegenerate point, it is also locally biholomorphic to some Heisenberg pseudosphere, possibly having a different signature (l,n-l). Up to signature, pseudosphericity then jumps across the Levi degenerate locus and in particular across the nonminimal locus, if there exists any.

A generalized Jaynes–Cummings model including the Stark shifts is investigated where the transition is mediated by two different modes of photons. For two different types of correlated field states, the pair coherent states and two-mode SU(1, 1) coherent states, the effect of including the Stark shift on the dynamical behavior of atomic inversion, atomic squeezing parameters, second order coherence function, and photon number distribution is investigated. Our results indicate significant changes in the behavior of these quantities for large and small average photon number <n> in the presence and absence of Stark shift and depending on the type of correlated field involved.

Résumé :
This work presents a comprehensive investigation of the quantum capacitance and the associated effects on the carrier transit delay in armchair-edge graphene nanoribbons (A-GNRs) based on semi-analytical method. We emphasize on the realistic analysis of bandgap with taking edge effects into account by means of modified tight binding (TB) model. The results show that the edge effects have significant influence in defining the bandgap which is a necessary input in the accurate analyses of capacitance. The quantum capacitance is discussed in both nondegenerate (low gate voltage) and degenerate (high gate voltage) regimes. We observe that the classical capacitance limits the total gate (external) capacitance in the degenerate regime, whereas, quantum capacitance limits the external gate capacitance in the nondegenerate regime. The influence of gate capacitances on the gate delay is studied extensively to demonstrate the optimization of switching time. Moreover, the high-field behavior of a GNR is studied in the degenerate and nondegenerate regimes. We find that a smaller intrinsic capacitance appears in the channel due to high velocity carrier, which limits the quantum capacitance and thus limit the gate delay. Such detail analysis of GNRs considering a realistic model would be useful for the optimized design of GNR-based nanoelectronic devices.

Résumé :
An analysis of dynamics of demand-inventory model with stock-level-dependent demand formulated as a three-dimensional system of difference equations with four parameters is considered. By reducing the model to the planar system with five parameters, an analysis of one-parameter bifurcation of equilibrium points is presented. By the analytical method, we prove that nondegeneracy conditions for the existence of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation for the planar system are fulfilled. To check the sign of the first Lyapunov coefficient of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation, we use numerical simulations. We give phase portraits of the planar system to confirm the previous analytical results and show new interesting complex dynamical behaviours emerging in it. Finally, the economical interpretation of the system is given.

Résumé :
Abstract The progenitor system of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is expected to be a close binary system consisting of a carbon/oxygen white dwarf (WD) and a nondegenerate star or another WD. Here, we present results from high-cadence monitoring observations of SN 2021hpr in a spiral galaxy, NGC 3147, and constraints on the progenitor system based on its early multicolor light-curve data. First, we classify SN 2021hpr as a normal SN Ia from its long-term photometric and spectroscopic data. More interestingly, we found a significant “early excess” in the light curve over a simple power-law ∼t 2 evolution. The early light curve evolves from blue to red to blue during the first week. To explain this, we fitted the early part of the BVRI-band light curves with a two-component model consisting of ejecta–companion interaction and a simple power-law model. The early excess and its color can be explained by shock-cooling emission due to a companion star having a radius of 8.84 ± 0.58 R ⊙. We also examined Hubble Space Telescope preexplosion images, finding no detection of a progenitor candidate, consistent with the above result. However, we could not detect signs of a significant amount of stripped mass from a nondegenerate companion star (≲0.003 M ⊙ for Hα emission). The early excess light in the multiband light curve supports a nondegenerate companion in the progenitor system of SN 2021hpr. At the same time, the nondetection of emission lines opens the door for other methods to explain this event.

Résumé :
The nondegenerate two-photon excited fluorescence (ND-TPEF) and nondegenerate two-photon absorption (ND-TPA) cross-sections of two common fluorescent dyes were investigated using the femtosecond pump-probe technique at several wavelength combinations. Time-resolved and laser intensity dependent fluorescence revealed that the fluorescence was originated from the ND-TPA effect. Experimental ND-TPA cross-section exhibited larger values than corresponding degenerate two-photon absorption case. Additionally, an improved essential-state model involving multiple TPA excited states was proposed to evaluate the TPA cross-section of organic molecules, which showed good agreement with experimental results. This study indicates that the investigated fluorescent dyes would play important roles in multicolor two-photon imaging.

Résumé :
We investigate Newton-type optimization methods for solving piecewise linear systems (PLSs) with nondegenerate coefficient matrix. Such systems arise, for example, from the numerical solution of linear complementarity problem, which is useful to model several learning and optimization problems. In this letter, we propose an effective damped Newton method, PLS-DN, to find the exact (up to machine precision) solution of nondegenerate PLSs. PLS-DN exhibits provable semiiterative property, that is, the algorithm converges globally to the exact solution in a finite number of iterations. The rate of convergence is shown to be at least linear before termination. We emphasize the applications of our method in modeling, from a novel perspective of PLSs, some statistical learning problems such as box-constrained least squares, elitist Lasso (Kowalski & Torreesani, 2008 ), and support vector machines (Cortes & Vapnik, 1995 ). Numerical results on synthetic and benchmark data sets are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of PLS-DN on these problems.

Résumé :
In this paper, we study the influence of the intrinsic decoherence on quantum statistical properties of a generalized nonlinear interacting atom–field system, i.e., the nondegenerate two-photon f-deformed Jaynes–Cummings model governed by the Milburn equation. The model contains the nonlinearities of both the cavity–field and the atom–field coupling. Until now, very few exact solutions of nonlinear systems that include a form of decoherence have been presented. The main achievement of the present work is to find exact analytical solutions for the quantum dynamics of the nonlinear model under consideration in the presence of intrinsic decoherence. With the help of a supersymmetric transformation, we first put the model Hamiltonian into an appropriate form for treating the intrinsic decoherence. Then, by applying the superoperator technique, we find an exact solution of the Milburn equation for a nondegenerate two-photon f-deformed Jaynes–Cummings model. We use this solution to investigate the effects of the intrinsic decoherence on temporal evolution of various nonclassical properties of the system, i.e., atomic population inversion, atomic dipole squeezing, atom–field entanglement, sub-Poissonian photon statistics, cross correlation between the two modes and quadrature squeezing of the cavity field. Particularly, we compare the numerical results for three different cases of two-mode deformed, one-mode deformed, and nondeformed Jaynes–Cummings models. PACS Nos.: 42.50.Ct, 42.50.Dv, 03.65.Yz

Many experimental measurements have been done on GNR conductance. In this paper, analytical model of GNR conductance is presented. Moreover, comparison with published data which illustrates good agreement between them is studied. Conductance of GNR as a one-dimensional device channel with parabolic band structures near the charge neutrality point is improved. Based on quantum confinement effect, the conductance of GNR in parabolic part of the band structure, also the temperature-dependent conductance which displays minimum conductance near the charge neutrality point are calculated. Graphene nanoribbon (GNR) with parabolic band structure near the minimum band energy terminates Fermi-Dirac integral base method on band structure study. While band structure is parabola, semiconducting GNRs conductance is a function of Fermi-Dirac integral which is based on Maxwell approximation in nondegenerate limit especially for a long channel.

In contrast to the analysis presented by Schotman and van Dijk [9], we utilize a nondegenerate structural representation of the components model that allows us to determine well-behaved Jeffreys priors, posterior densities under flat priors and Jeffreys priors, and posterior odds ratios for the unit root hypothesis without a proper prior for the level parameter. The analysis highlights the importance of the treatment of initial values for inference concerning stationarity and unit roots.

Résumé :
Abstract We present high-cadence optical and ultraviolet light curves of the normal Type Ia supernova (SN) 2021aefx, which shows an early bump during the first two days of observation. This bump may be a signature of interaction between the exploding white dwarf and a nondegenerate binary companion, or it may be intrinsic to the white dwarf explosion mechanism. In the case of the former, the short duration of the bump implies a relatively compact main-sequence companion star, although this conclusion is viewing-angle dependent. Our best-fit companion-shocking and double-detonation models both overpredict the UV luminosity during the bump, and existing nickel-shell models do not match the strength and timescale of the bump. We also present nebular spectra of SN 2021aefx, which do not show the hydrogen or helium emission expected from a nondegenerate companion, as well as a radio nondetection that rules out all symbiotic progenitor systems and most accretion disk winds. Our analysis places strong but conflicting constraints on the progenitor of SN 2021aefx; no current model can explain all of our observations.

Résumé :
The present paper is a review of the phenomena related to nonequilibrium electron relaxation in bulk and nano-scale metallic samples. The workable Two-Temperature Model (TTM) based on Boltzmann–Bloch–Peierls kinetic equation has been applied to study the ultra-fast (femto-second) electronic relaxation in various metallic systems. The advent of new ultra-fast (femto-second) laser technology and pump-probe spectroscopy has produced wealth of new results for micro- and nano-scale electronic technology. The aim of this paper is to clarify the TTM, conditions of its validity and nonvalidity, its modifications for nano-systems, to sum-up the progress, and to point out open problems in this field. We also give a phenomenological integro-differential equation for the kinetics of nondegenerate electrons that goes beyond the TTM.

Résumé :
A theoretical model of the electromagnetic H-wave interaction with a semiconductor nanolayer, the thickness of which can be comparable to or less than charge carrier de Broglie wavelength is constructed. We assume the frequency range of the electromagnetic wave to be much less than the plasma frequency. Analytical expressions are derived for optical coefficients as the functions of the dimensionless thickness, electromagnetic wave frequency and incidence angle, chemical potential, and surface roughness parameters. The results derived for the limiting cases of degenerate and nondegenerate electron gas are analyzed. Keywords: nanolayer, Liouville equation, de Broglie wavelength, Soffer model, optical coefficients.

Résumé :
We investigate a zero-dimensional Hermitian one-matrix model in a triple-well potential. Its tree-level phase structure is analyzed semiclassically as well as in the framework of orthogonal polynomials. Some multiple-arc eigenvalue distributions in the first method correspond to quasiperiodic large-N behavior of recursion coefficients for the second. We further establish this connection between the two approaches by finding three-arc saddle points from orthogonal polynomials. The latter require a modification for nondegenerate potential minima; we propose weighing the average over potential wells.

Résumé :
In this paper, we are concerned with the study of the mathematical analysis for an optimal control of a nonlocal degenerate aggregation model. This model describes the aggregation of organisms such as pedestrian movements, chemotaxis, animal swarming. We establish the wellposedness (existence and uniqueness) for the weak solution of the direct problem by means of an auxiliary nondegenerate aggregation equation, the Faedo–Galerkin method (for the existence result) and duality method (for the uniqueness). Moreover, for the adjoint problem, we prove the existence result of minimizers and first-order necessary conditions. The main novelty of this work concerns the presence of a control to our nonlocal degenerate aggregation model. Our results are complemented with some numerical simulations.

Résumé :
This paper proposes a new model selection test for the statistical comparison of semi/non‐parametric models based on a general quasi‐likelihood ratio criterion. An important feature of the new test is its uniformly exact asymptotic size in the overlapping nonnested case, as well as in the easier nested and strictly nonnested cases. The uniform size control is achieved without using pretesting, sample‐splitting, or simulated critical values. We also show that the test has nontrivial power against all n ‐local alternatives and against some local alternatives that converge to the null faster than n . Finally, we provide a framework for conducting uniformly valid post model selection inference for model parameters. The finite sample performance of the nondegenerate test and that of the post model selection inference procedure are illustrated in a mean‐regression example by Monte Carlo.

Résumé :
Kinetic Alfvén wave instability is examined rigorously in a uniform nondegenerate quantum dusty plasma. A linear dispersion relation of kinetic Alfvén wave in inertial regime is derived by incorporating Bohm potential in the linearized Vlasov model. It is found that the quantum correctionCQappears due to the insertion of Bohm potential in Vlasov model and causes the suppression in the Alfvén wave frequency and the growth rates of instability. A number of analytical expressions for various modes of propagation are derived. It is also found that the system parameters, that is, streaming velocity, dust charge, number density, and quantum correction, significantly influence the dispersion relation and the growth rate of instability.

Résumé :
In the present work, we investigated the thermodynamic properties of the lattice formed by noninteracting nanotubes using a single-walled nanotube model in a longitudinal magnetic field. We show that the specific heat of nondegenerate electron gas in semiconductor nanotubes changes from kB/2 to kB as temperature increases. Magnetization has a “saw-tooth” form as a function of the magnetic field. For the lattice of nanotubes with two different radii, we found ordinary compensation points, points at which the magnetization vanishes at fixed values of the magnetic field strength.

Résumé :
Rig groupoids provide a semantic model of Π, a universal classical reversible programming language over finite types. We prove that extending rig groupoids with just two maps and three equations about them results in a model of quantum computing that is computationally universal and equationally sound and complete for a variety of gate sets. The first map corresponds to an 8th root of the identity morphism on the unit 1. The second map corresponds to a square root of the symmetry on 1+1. As square roots are generally not unique and can sometimes even be trivial, the maps are constrained to satisfy a nondegeneracy axiom, which we relate to the Euler decomposition of the Hadamard gate. The semantic construction is turned into an extension of Π, called √Π, that is a computationally universal quantum programming language equipped with an equational theory that is sound and complete with respect to the Clifford gate set, the standard gate set of Clifford+T restricted to ≤2 qubits, and the computationally universal Gaussian Clifford+T gate set.

Résumé :
We prove the existence of generalized weak solutions of a new model for the process of in situ vitrification. The model describes the steady process of vitrification of soil, i.e. the melting of soil by means of electrical current and subsequent solidification as a rock. This is the core of a new technology developed to treat buried low-level radioactive or toxic waste. It is a free boundary problem consisting of a degenerate elliptic equation for the electric potential coupled with a stationary Stefan problem for melting the soil, which results from the Joule heating. The degeneracy reflects the smallness of the ratio of the electrical conductivity of the soil to that of the molten rock. The existence result is proved by considering a sequence of approximate nondegenerate problems, obtaining the necessary a priori estimates and passing to the limit. We also establish a sufficient condition for the solution to exhibit a molten region.
