Résumé :
Metal halide perovskites have shown the most promising results as the light-harvesting section of photovoltaics and opto-electronic devices. Among the non-toxic halide perovskites, CsGeBr3 was found to be the best candidate for opto-electronic applications; however, it is understood that the efficiency of CsGeBr3 can be further increased with the insertion of transition metals as dopants. In this article, the first-principles density functional theory calculations are used to predict the mechanical, structural, electronic, and optical properties of pristine, Ni-doped, Mn-doped, and Fe-doped CsGeBr3 with 12.5% of doping concentration. All the doped materials are found to be ferromagnetic and mechanically stable. They have finite magnetization values. The optical absorption edge in all the doped materials shows that they have additional peaks within the large emission range of solar radiation, which makes them more suitable than the pristine material for photovoltaics and opto-electronic applications. Among the doped materials, Mn-doped and Fe-doped CsGeBr3 have comparably higher absorption peaks and are almost identical in shape. The electronic bandgap is smaller than the pristine structure in the case of Fe-doped CsGeBr3 and larger for Ni and Mn-doped CsGeBr3. These combinational analyses lead to the decision that, among the non-toxic, inorganic perovskite materials, Fe-doped CsGeBr3 is better suited for the use in opto-electronic applications.

Résumé :
The metal doping at the Pb2+ position provides improved luminescence performance for the cesium lead halide perovskites, and their fabrication methods assisted by microwave have attracted considerable attention due to the advantages of fast heating and low energy consumption. However, the postsynthetic doping strategy of the metal-doped perovskites driven by microwave heating still lacks systematic research. In this study, the assembly of CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 with a strong fluorescence peak at 523 nm is used as the CsPbBr3 precursor, and through the optimization of the postsynthetic conditions such as reaction temperatures, Mn2+/Pb2+ feeding ratios, and Mn2+ sources, the optimum Mn2+-doped product (CsPb(Cl/Br)3:Mn) is achieved. The exciton fluorescence peak of CsPb(Cl/Br)3:Mn is blueshifted to 437 nm, and an obvious fluorescence peak attributing to the doped Mn2+ ions at 597 nm is obtained. Both the CsPbBr3 precursor and CsPb(Cl/Br)3:Mn have high PLQY and stability because there are CsPb2Br5 microcubic crystals to well disperse and embed the CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) in the precursor, and after Mn2+-doping, this structure is maintained to form CsPb(Cl/Br)3:Mn NCs on the surface of their microcrystals. The exploration of preparation parameters in the microwave-assisted method provides insights into the enhanced color-tunable luminescence of the metal-doped perovskite materials.

Résumé :
This work is dedicated to the development of new types of composite thermoluminescent detectors based on the single crystalline films of Ce-doped GdAlO3 perovskite and Mn-doped YAlO3 and (Lu0.8Y0.2)AlO3:Mn perovskites as well as Ce and Pr-doped YAlO3 single crystal substrates. These detectors were obtained using the Liquid Phase Epitaxy growth method from the melt solution based on the PbO-B2O3 fluxes. Such composite detectors can by applied for the simultaneous registration of different components of mixed ionization fluxes using the differences between the thermoluminescent glow curves, recorded from the film and crystal parts of epitaxial structures. For creation of the new composite detectors, we considered using, for the film and crystal components of epitaxial structures (i) the different perovskite matrixes doped with the same type of activator or (ii) the same perovskite host with various types of activators. The thermoluminescent properties of the different types of epitaxial structures based on the abovementioned films and crystal substrates were examined in the conditions of β-particles and X-ray excitation with aim of determination of the optimal combination of perovskites for composite detectors. It was shown that, among the structures with all the studied compositions, the best properties for the simultaneous thermoluminescent detection of α- and X-rays were the GdAlO3:Ce film/YAlO3:Ce crystal epitaxial structure.

Résumé :
In spite of the flexoelectric effect being a universal phenomenon in the ferroelectric perovskites, the current understanding of flexoelectric aging in ferroelectrics is, actually, rather incomplete. In this paper, we have fabricated a series of Mn-doped BaTiO3 perovskite ceramics (BaTi1–xMnxO3, x = 0.1% and 1%, BTMO) to systematically investigate the corresponding flexoelectric aging behavior by controlling the concentration of Mn. We found that the variation of Mn dopant significantly effects the Curie temperature, dielectric constant, flexoelectric aging, and flexoelectric coefficient of the BTMO ceramics. Especially for the BTMO (0.1%) ceramics, obvious ferroelectric aging and flexoelectric aging phenomenon are observed at room temperature. The main reason for aging of BTMO ceramics is that the doping of Mn introduces oxygen vacancies, which tend to be stable under the action of strain gradient and electric field. Therefore, the results presented in this paper verify that the flexoelectric aging in Mn-doped BTO ceramics is closely related to ferroelectric fatigue.

Abstract: In recent years, two-dimensional (2D) perovskite materials have attracted considerable attention duo to their unique and excellent electronic and optical properties, which make them an extremely promising semiconductor for light-emitting and display applications. Furthermore, the nonmagnetic perovskite can be semi magnetic semiconductor by incorporating magnetic impurities into lattices of the host perovskite to introduce magnetic properties. The coexistence of both excellent optoelectronic and magnetic properties, makes semi magnetic 2D perovskite to be a considerably promising material for opto-spintronic semiconductor devices for information processing and communications. In this thesis, we explore the electronic and optical properties of 2D perovskites via magneto-optical spectroscopy. We start from performing magneto-photoluminescence (PL) and magneto-transmission measurements on CsPbBr3-based nanoplatelets with a different thickness of the lead-halide slab, ranging from 2 to 4 layers of lead-halide octahedral plane. By applying in-plane magnetic fields up to 65 T, the optically inactive dark excitonic state is brightened. This approach allows us to directly observe an improvement of the PL emission on the low-energy side of the PL spectrum, which indicates that the optically inactive dark excitonic state is the lowest-lying state in these nanoplatelets. Additionally, combining our magneto-PL and magneto-transmission results with theoretical predictions of the exciton fine structure splitting, we accurately determine the energy splitting between the dark and bright excitons. We demonstrate that indeed the dark-bright exciton splitting increases with decreasing layers of lead-halide octahedral plane. We also demonstrate that the efficient emission from these nanoplateltes is due to a phonon bottleneck effect, which significantly reduces the relaxation of the photo excited excitons to the optically inactive dark state. Finally, we investigate the electronic properties of Mn-doped 2D (PEA)2PbI4 perovskite via magneto-transmission spectroscopy for various Mn molar fractions. We find that the exciton Lande g-factor can be controlled by the incorporated Mn concentration. With increasing Mn concentration x from 0 to 2%, the g-factor increases, which we attribute to the sp-d exchange interaction between band-edge excitons and spins hosted in Mn ions. If the Mn concentration is increased further, up to 5%, the exciton g-factor decreases. This anomalous counter-trend is attributed to the Mn-Mn interactions, which result in an effective anti-ferromagnetic coupling

Résumé :
Although extensive substitution studies exist on LaMnO3 perovskites, simultaneous substitution at the La and Mn sites in the low-doping regime is not as common and provides important insights into the subtle balance of various competing effects acting on the crystal structure and the magnetic properties. This chapter presents a study of the evolution of the crystal structure and magnetic properties by simultaneous substitution of magnetic and non-magnetic ions at the perovskite A and B sites, respectively. It will examine some of the ways in which experiments on the evolution of magnetic properties provide a suitable balance scenario between the competitive effects arising from doping at each site. The work discusses the evolution of the Curie-Weiss behavior and the formation of ferromagnetic (FM) clusters above the Curie temperature, whose structure is also dependent on doping.

Résumé :
The multifunctional materials have demonstrated various properties such as shape memory effect (SME), magneto caloric effect (MCE), magneto resistance (MR), piezoresistance (PR), exchange bias (EB), half metallic ferromagnetism (HMF), and spin polarization. Among many Heusler compounds, Ni-Mn-Ga alloys provide SME, MCE, PR, and MR behaviors. These properties can be tuned by some external/internal perturbations such as pressure, magnetic field, and chemical composition. These alloys are prepared using an arc melting furnace under by melting the high-purity starting elements (99.99%). The aim of the book chapter is to enhance the multicaloric properties (MCE and PR) nearer to ambient temperature by the application of some external parameters. Hence, we have chosen few Heusler alloys. These materials are investigated under extreme conditions (hydrostatic pressure, high magnetic field, and low temperature). All the doped and undoped Ni-Mn-Ga alloy series alloys exhibit conventional MCE. The application of external magnetic field increases the magnetization for both alloys. The hydrostatic pressure influences Ms and broadens the hysteresis width in both the samples. The observed metamagnetic transition at ambient pressure gets suppressed at higher pressure. Also, high pressure induces larger magneto crystalline anisotropy. The effect of pressure on MCE is decreased for both Ni2–xMn1+xGa (x = 0 and 0.15) alloys. These alloys exhibit –ve PR (x=0 @ 30 kbar) and +ve PR (x = 0.15@ 28 kbar) when subjected to hydrostatic pressure. The rate of change of T and resistivity with respect to pressure are calculated and show positive values for both the samples. The residual resistivity and electron-electron scattering factor are found to be decreased with pressure for x = 0, and it exhibits metallic behavior. However, both parameters increase for x = 0.15 alloy, and it may be related to static disorder effects and spin fluctuations.

Résumé :
Colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), as the name implies, is the phenomenon of dramatic changes in resistance attendant upon application of a magnetic field. The typical CMR material is derived from perovskite manganites with the chemical formula Ln1−xAxMnO3, where Ln is the rare earth (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm) and A is the divalent metal (A = Ca, Ba, Sr). The objective of this paper is to study the effects of the doping Nd and Pr at La site on La-Ba-Mn-O ceramics using solid state reaction. The characteristics and magnetotransport properties of CMR materials are investigated. Polycrystalline (La1−xPrx)0.67Ba0.33MnO3 (x = 0, 1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1) and (La1−xPrx)0.67Ba0.33MnO3 (x = 0, 1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1), are doped with Pr and Nd site based manganites, calcined at 900°C for 12 hours, pelletized and sintered at 1300°C for 24 hours have been synthesized and investigated. The magnetoresistance (MR) effects are measured using the four point probe technique. The magnetoresistance defined as MR% = (Ro−RH)/RH × 100 was measured at a magnetic field of H ≤ 1T at room temperature. The MR values were increased from 7.9–12.7% and from 7.9–12.3% for doping with Nd (x = 0.17) and Pr (x = 0.33) respectively. The electrical property, Tp was determined by using standard four-point probe resistivity measurement in a temperature range of 20 K to 300 K. The result shows that Pr and Nd dopants shift the value of TP to a lower temperature. In this paper the structural pattern and microstructure property of bulk samples have been investigated via XRD, AFM and SEM. XRD patterns show that these systems are in single-phase with orthorhombic distorted perovskite structures. The rms roughness for the AFM images has obtained for undoped and doped samples. SEM micrographs have shown that undoped samples are observed to be more compact than the doped samples doped due to the existence of pores. The potential of this research is to produce magnetoresistive read head such as read/write heads in computer disc-drives, position sensor, magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM), biomagnetic sensor and magnetic accelerometers.
