Résumé :
ABSTRACTBacterial binuclear iron monooxygenases play numerous physiological roles in oxidative metabolism. Monooxygenases of this type found in actinomycetes also catalyze various useful reactions and have attracted much attention as oxidation biocatalysts. However, difficulties in expressing these multicomponent monooxygenases in heterologous hosts, particularly inEscherichia coli, have hampered the development of engineered oxidation biocatalysts. Here, we describe a strategy to functionally express the mycobacterial binuclear iron monooxygenase MimABCD inEscherichia coli. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic analysis of themimABCDgene expression inE. colirevealed that the oxygenase components MimA and MimC were insoluble. Furthermore, although the reductase MimB was expressed at a low level in the soluble fraction ofE. colicells, a band corresponding to the coupling protein MimD was not evident. This situation rendered the transformedE. colicells inactive. We found that the following factors are important for functional expression of MimABCD inE. coli: coexpression of the specific chaperonin MimG, which caused MimA and MimC to be soluble inE. colicells, and the optimization of themimDnucleotide sequence, which led to efficient expression of this gene product. These two remedies enabled this multicomponent monooxygenase to be actively expressed inE. coli. The strategy described here should be generally applicable to theE. coliexpression of other actinomycetous binuclear iron monooxygenases and related enzymes and will accelerate the development of engineered oxidation biocatalysts for industrial processes.

Résumé :
This study aimed to prepare a molecularly imprinted monolithic extraction column (MIMC) inside a micropipette tip by situ polymerization with roxithromycin as the dummy template. The polymers possessed excellent adsorption capacity and class-specificity to multiple macrolide drugs. MIMC was directly connected to a syringe for template removal and for the optimization of extraction conditions without any other post-treatment of polymers. A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric method was developed for the selective microextraction and determination of macrolide antibiotics in animal muscles based on MIMC. High recoveries of 76.1–92.8% for six macrolides were obtained with relative standard deviations less than 10.4%. MIMC exhibited better retention ability and durability when compared with the traditional C18 and HLB cartridges. The proposed method shows a great potential for the analysis of macrolide drugs at the trace level in animal foodstuffs.

For Arithmetization-Oriented ciphers and hash functions Gröbner basis attacks are generally considered as the most competitive attack vector. Unfortunately, the complexity of Gröbner basis algorithms is only understood for special cases, and it is needless to say that these cases do not apply to most cryptographic polynomial systems. Therefore, cryptographers have to resort to experiments, extrapolations and hypotheses to assess the security of their designs. One established measure to quantify the complexity of linear algebra-based Gröbner basis algorithms is the so-called solving degree. Caminata & Gorla revealed that under a certain genericity condition on a polynomial system the solving degree is always upper bounded by the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity and henceforth by the Macaulay bound, which only takes the degrees and number of variables of the input polynomials into account. In this paper we extend their framework to iterated polynomial systems, the standard polynomial model for symmetric ciphers and hash functions. In particular, we prove solving degree bounds for various attacks on MiMC, Feistel-MiMC, Feistel-MiMC-Hash, Hades and GMiMC. Our bounds fall in line with the hypothesized complexity of Gröbner basis attacks on these designs, and to the best of our knowledge this is the first time that a mathematical proof for these complexities is provided. Moreover, by studying polynomials with degree falls we can prove lower bounds on the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity for attacks on MiMC, Feistel-MiMC and Feistel-MiMCHash provided that only a few solutions of the corresponding iterated polynomial system originate from the base field. Hence, regularity-based solving degree estimations can never surpass a certain threshold, a desirable property for cryptographic polynomial systems.

Résumé :
During fieldwork in Ladakh in July–August 2018, three authors from Asian studies, anthropology, and religious studies backgrounds researched “multiple Buddhisms” in Ladakh, India. Two case studies are presented: a Buddhist monastery festival by the Drikung Kagyü Tibetan Buddhist sect, and a Theravada monastic complex, called Mahabodhi International Meditation Center (MIMC). Through the transnational contexts of both of these case studies, we argue that Buddhist leaders adapt their teachings to appeal to specific audiences with the underlying goal of preserving the tradition. The Buddhist monastery festival engages with both the scientific and the magical or mystical elements of Buddhism for two very different European audiences. At MIMC, a secular spirituality mixes with Buddhism for international tourists on a meditation retreat. Finally, at MIMC, Thai Buddhist monks learn how to fight the decline of Buddhism through missionizing Theravada Buddhism in this land dominated by Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Paying attention to this multiplicity—to “multiple Buddhisms”—we argue, makes space for the complicated, ambiguous, and at times contradictory manner in which Buddhism is positioned in regards to secularism and secularity.

Résumé :
HighlightsMine water irrigation can promote the plant height growth of winter wheat, but inhibit the growth of leaf area.High salinity mine water irrigation will inhibit the growth and development of winter wheat and reduce the yield.Mixed irrigation of mine water and clean water (the ratio is 1:1) is beneficial to the growth of winter wheat.Short-term mine water irrigation will not cause soil salinization.Abstract. There is a serious shortage of irrigation water in the overlapped areas of crop and mineral production in North China. The key to solve the problem is to utilize mine water safely and efficiently. The effects of mine water irrigation (MI), mixed mine water and clean water irrigation (MIMC), rotational mine water and clean water irrigation, irrigated with mine water first, then clean water (RIMC) and clean water irrigation (CK) on winter wheat growth and soil salinity were studied through two years of field trials (2012 to 2014). The results showed that different models of mine water irrigation had no difference in plant height, but had obvious inhibitory effect on leaf area of wheat. Compared with CK, MI increased plant height by 1.0% to 3.4%, and leaf area was 69.5% to 81.9% of that of CK. Compared with CK, the yield of MIMC was increased by 2.6% to 6.67%, and the yield of RIMC and MI was decreased by 3.4% to 21.1% and 10.4% to 11.2%, respectively. The MI with high salinity could inhibit the growth and development of winter wheat, and reduce the yield and quality, while the yield of MIMC was higher than that of CK, and could improve the quality of winter wheat. Long-term irrigation of using mine water with high salinity will increase the risk of soil salinization, but MIMC can improve soil fertility. Résumé :
The utilization of wireless mesh networks (WMNs) has greatly increased, and the multi-interface multichannel (MIMC) technic has been widely used for the backbone network. Unfortunately, the ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol defined in the IEEE 802.11s standard was designed for WMNs using the single-interface single-channel technic. So, we define a problem that happens when the legacy AODV is used in MIMC WMNs and propose an interface assignment-based AODV (IA-AODV) in order to resolve that problem. IA-AODV, which is based on multitarget path request, consists of the PREQ prediction scheme, the PREQ loss recovery scheme, and the PREQ sender assignment scheme. A detailed operation according to various network conditions and services is introduced, and the routing efficiency and network reliability of a network using IA-AODV are analyzed over the presented system model. Finally, after a real-world test-bed for MIMC WMNs using the IA-AODV routing protocol is implemented, the various indicators of the network are evaluated through experiments. When the proposed routing protocol is compared with the existing AODV routing protocol, it performs the path update using only 14.33% of the management frames, completely removes the routing malfunction, and reduces the UDP packet loss ratio by 0.0012%.

Résumé :
e17015 Background: PSMA PET has been widely adopted in restaging of prostate cancer at biochemical recurrence. We assess the clinical utility of quantitative parameters on 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT at biochemical recurrence and their association with the subsequent biochemical progression free survival (bPFS). Methods: This is a retrospective image analysis and longitudinal follow up of a prospective study evaluating 18F-DCFPyL PET in prostate cancer patients with biochemical recurrence after primary definitive treatment at Stanford Hospital. The 18F-DCFPyL PET images were quantitatively analyzed automatically by the aPROMISE application, a semi-automated analysis and structured reporting of PSMA PET/CT. aPROMISE uses deep learning to segment detailed anatomical information from the CT images and uses this information in combination with the PET image to detect and quantify candidates for prostate cancer lesions. The reader works in tandem with the software to vet the final list of lesions, from which the quantitative assessments and final report is created automatically. Based on the Prostate Cancer Molecular Imaging Standardized Evaluation (PROMISE) criteria. SUVmean, PSMA positive total tumor volume (PSMAttv) and aPSMA scores, a quantitative score for tumor burden measuring the interaction of tumor volume and uptake stratified by local tumors (aPSMA-miT), regional lymph nodes (aPSMA-miN) and distant metastases (aPSMA-miMa for extrapelvic metastases, miMb for bone metastases and miMc for other organ metastases) were obtained based on the miTNM classification. The association of these quantitative parameters with the subsequent bPFS was evaluated. Results: 134 patients (age 70.1 ± 7.6, range 51 -91 years; PSA 13.9 ± 98.5, range 0.12 – 1126 ng/mL) were included in the quantitative image analysis. aPROMISE detected nodal and/or bone metastases in 94 of 134 patients (70%) and only 12 of 134 patients (9%) had visceral disease. With median follow up of 37 months, 66 of 134 patients (49%) have progressed again biochemically after treatment. The bPSF was 25.8 ± 15.1 months. Quantitative analysis of 18F-DCFPyL PET found that the subsequent bPFS is significantly associated with aPSMA-miMb ( P < 0.001), PSMAttv ( P < 0.001), aPSMA-miN ( P < 0.01), aPSMA-miMa ( P < 0.05) but not with SUVmean or aPSMA-miMc. Conclusions: Total and anatomically contextualized quantitative image analysis of 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT at biochemical recurrence may be useful in predicting the subsequent bPFS. Studies in larger patient cohort is necessary to validate these findings. Given many patients were treated based on lesions found on 18F-DCFPyL PET/CT, clinical implication of this findings remains to be elucidated.

Résumé :
Real-time video transmission demands tremendous bandwidth, throughput and strict delay. For transmitting real-time video in the multi-interface multi-channel Ad hoc, firstly, we applied multi-interface multi-channel extension methods to the AOMDV (Ad-hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector) routing protocol, and improved extant channel switching algorithm, called MIMC-AOMDV (Multi-Interface Multi-Channel AOMDV) routing protocol. Secondly, we proposed video streaming delay QoS(Quality of Service) constraint and link-quality metrics, which used the multi interface queue’s total used length to get QMMIMC-AOMDV (Quality metric MIMC -AOMDV) routing protocol. The simulations show that the proposed QMMIMC-AOMDV can reduce the frame delay effectively and raise frame decodable rate and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), it is more suitable for real-time video streams.

Bearingless induction motor is a multi-variable, nonlinear and strong coupled system. On the basis of working principle of bearingless induction motor, independent control of suspension control windings is combined with rotor flux-oriented control of torque control windings in the paper. Meanwhile, in order to improve robustness and decoupling performance of system, the modified internal model control (MIMC) is applied in the control of two sets of windings to realize the dynamic decoupling of currents and stable control of radial displacement. The results of simulation experiments show that the proposed strategy has good ability of disturbance rejection and robustness, so the stable operation of motor can be achieved effectively.

We present the use of the modified internal model controller (MIMC) and the ?Probability Tube? (PT) action representation for robot-assisted upper extremities training of hemiplegic patients. The robot-assisted training session has two phases. During the first "demonstration" phase the robot learns from the therapist the target path through examples. In the second "exercise" phase the robot assists a patient to follow the target path. During this process, the control limits the interface force between the robot and the hand to be below the preset threshold (F = 50 N). The system allows the assessment of the range of movement, the positional error between the target and the reached position, the amount of added assistance (the interface force between the hand and the robot). We demonstrate the operation in two hemiplegic patients. The patients and therapist suggested after the tests that the new system is straightforward and intuitive for clinical applications.

Résumé :
The platelet-to-albumin ratio (PAR) was developed to evaluate inflammatory and nutritional status among patients. The primary goal of the current study was to gain insight into the prognostic role of PAR in critically ill patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). The secondary aim was to develop and verify a clinical model including PAR for the prediction of 28-day mortality. This observational, multicenter study used data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) IV, e-ICU databases, and Union cohort. Data from 776 critically ill patients with CRC were from the e-ICU database, 219 from the MIMC-IV database, and 135 from the Wuhan Union Hospital. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis, along with inverse probability treatment weighting, was used to control the influence of confounding factors. Support vector machine (SVM) and LASSO Cox models were then applied to identify significant metrics associated with 28-day mortality in the test cohort. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis, along with sensitivity and specificity, was measured to assess the predictive performances of PAR and the survival nomogram. The threshold value for PAR was 8.6, and patients with high PAR (≥8.6) experienced higher 28-day mortality compared to those with low PAR (<8.6). ROC curve analyses revealed that the discriminative ability of PAR was better than platelet count and albumin alone. LASSO Cox regression along with SVM identified six significant metrics associated with 28-day mortality in critically ill patients with CRC, including PAR. The C-index of the critically ill CRC nomogram was 0.802 (0.744–0.859) in the e-ICU training cohort, 0.839 (0.779–0.899) in the e-ICU validation cohort, 0.787 (0.695–0.879) in the MIMIC-IV cohort, and 0.767 (0.703–0.831) in the Union cohort. PAR is a simple score that combines inflammatory and nutritional status. PAR was a reliable index to predict short-term survival outcome of critically ill patients with CRC. Moreover, a clinical nomogram incorporating PAR exhibited satisfactory performance for predicting 28-day mortality of critically ill patients with CRC.

Abstract Comparison of chemotherapy efficacy in metastatic lobular vs. ductal breast cancer Background: Invasive lobular carcinomas (ILC) are thought to be less chemo-sensitive than invasive ductal carcinomas (IDC), as reflected by lower rates of pathological complete response following neoadjuvant therapy. In the metastatic setting, evidence regarding chemotherapy (Cx) efficacy is limited. Methods: A retrospective review of prospectively collected data for consecutive patients (pts) with metastatic ILC (mILC) treated at a single institution between 2000 and 2023 was included. Pts with mILC were matched on a 1:2 ratio with a cohort of pts with metastatic IDC (mIDC) by age, era of diagnosis and initial metastatic burden. Primary outcome was efficacy of Cx in mILC vs. mIDC pts as measured by time to next treatment - TTNTc (months (m) between start date of first & second Cx). Key secondary endpoints included differences in efficacy of endocrine therapy between the two groups (as measured by TTNT and outcomes in pts with endocrine resistance (EnR) as defined by ESMO consensus guideline) and overall survival (time from diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer (BC) to death or last follow-up [OS]). Results: 376 pts were included, mILC (122) and mIDC (254) with median age 64y and 62y, respectively. A significantly higher proportion of mILC pts had hormone receptor positive/HER2 negative or lower proportion of triple negative disease (p< 0.0001). Compared to mIDC, mILC pts were more likely to have de novo disease (29% vs. 18%; p=0.02), lower grade (p< 0.0001), received endocrine therapy only (p=0.03) and were less likely to have visceral disease at diagnosis or any time after metastatic diagnosis (20% vs. 45% p< 0.0001, 35% vs. 51% < 0.0004, respectively). Median time to commencing chemotherapy from metastatic diagnosis was longer in mILC pts (5.8 v 2.0 m, p=0.03). There was no significant differences in TTNTc for patients with mILC and mIDC except for those with visceral disease at diagnosis (Table 1). There was no significant difference in TTNTc by histological subtype of mILC (p=0.46) or by choice of first line chemotherapy used (p=0.91). In the entire population, no significant OS difference observed in mILC and mIDC (Table 1). BC outcome was assessed in pts receiving endocrine therapy as first-line treatment (mILC 65, mIDC 102). There was no difference in TTNT (mILC 14.6m vs. mIDC 14.8m). There were no differences in incidence of EnR between the groups. OS was shorter in mILC pts with primary EnR. The presence of primary, secondary or no resistance within each histological group was significantly associated with OS (Table 1). Conclusion: Pts with mILC have a longer time to commencing chemotherapy, but efficacy of chemotherapy is similar to pts with mIDC; irrespective of lobular histologic subtype, first line chemotherapy regimen used and sites of disease, except for those mILC with visceral disease. There was no significant difference in OS between mILC and mIDC pts treated in this single centre study. Efficacy of endocrine treatment when given as first line treatment was similar in both groups with no significant difference when pts were evaluated by presence or absence of endocrine resistance, except for primary EnR, but pt numbers were small in this group. Our results demonstrate equivalent chemotherapy efficacy in pts with mILC as compared to mIDC.

Motivated by progress in the field of zero-knowledge proofs, so-called Arithmetization-Oriented (AO) symmetric primitives have started to appear in the literature, such as MiMC, Poseidon or Rescue. Due to the design constraints implied by this setting, these algorithms are defined using simple operations over large (possibly prime) fields. In particular, many rely on simple low-degree monomials for their non-linear layers, essentially using x ↦ x3 as an S-box.In this paper, we show that the structure of the material injected in each round (be it subkeys in a block cipher or round constants in a public permutation) could allow a specific pattern, whereby a well-defined affine space is mapped to another by the round function, and then to another, etc. Such chains of one-dimensional subspaces always exist over 2 rounds, and they can be extended to an arbitrary number of rounds, for any linear layer, provided that the round-constants are well chosen. As a consequence, for several ciphers like Rescue, or a variant of AES with a monomial Sbox, there exist some round-key sequences for which the cipher has an abnormally high differential uniformity, exceeding the size of the Sbox alphabet.Well-known security arguments, in particular based on the wide-trail strategy, have been reused in the AO setting by many designers. Unfortunately, our results show that such a traditional study may not be sufficient to guarantee security. To illustrate this, we present two new primitives (the tweakable block cipher Snare and the permutation-based hash function Stir) that are built using state-of-the-art security arguments, but which are actually deeply flawed. Indeed, the key schedule of Snare ensures the presence of a subspace chain that significantly simplifies an algebraic attack against it, and the round constants of Stir force the presence of a subspace chain aligned with the rate and capacity of the permutation. This in turns implies the existence of many easy-to-find solutions to the so-called CICO problem.

Résumé :
e13056 Background: Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) accounts for only 10-15% of all invasive breast cancers but has distinct clinicopathologic characteristics and genomic profiles. In particular, metastatic lobular cancers (mILC) have unique sites of metastasis and it is unclear if the response to initial endocrine therapy differs from metastatic ductal cancers (mIDC). Therefore we have undertaken a single-institution, retrospective analysis to compare overall outcomes and response to initial endocrine therapy (ET) in patients (pts) with metastatic ILC and IDC. Methods: An IRB approved retrospective review of medical records was conducted evaluating pts treated for metastatic IDC and ILC at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2014. Pts diagnosed with mIDC were matched on age, year of diagnosis, estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor and HER2 status and site of metastasis 2:1 to patients diagnosed with mILC. Overall survival (OS) was defined as the time from metastasis to death or last known follow-up. Progression-free survival (PFS) was defined as time from metastasis to progression on first-line ET. Time to chemotherapy (TTC) was defined as time from starting ET for metastasis to initiation of chemotherapy. Kaplan Meier (KM) methods were used to calculate median OS, PFS and TTC. Results: A total of one hundred sixty one pts with metastatic breast cancer were included in this analysis. The demographic features between the two groups were well balanced and included in the table below. The median OS was 2.6 yrs (95% CI: 1.55, 3.22) for mILC and 2.2 yrs (95% CI: 1.95, 2.62) for mIDC. A subset of 111 patients who started on endocrine therapy were used in the PFS and TTC analyses. The median PFS following first-line ET was 2.2 yrs (95% CI: 0.1.0, 2.7) for mILC and 1.4 yrs (95% CI: 0.91, 1.90) for mIDC. Median TTC was 2.1 yrs (95% CI: 1.71, 4.92) for mILC and 2.4 yrs (95% CI: 1.90, 4.77) for mIDC. There was no statistically significant difference in outcomes between the two groups. Conclusions: Outcomes in patients with ILC and IDC have been varied, with several studies reporting that patients with ILC have worse outcomes and response to chemotherapy. Our retrospective study examining outcomes in mILC in comparison with mIDC showed no difference in OS. Given the concern of resistance to conventional therapies in patients with lobular cancers, it is reassuring to see that the median PFS on first line ET and TTC was similar to metastatic ductal cancers.[Table: see text]

For the creation of chromogenic agents, an exogenous catalyst can be used, which can enhance complexity and interfere with the colorimetric detection of Deltamethrin (Dmp). This study revealed that MnO2/SnO2 nanocomposite to mimicked peroxidase activity, leading to the devel Deltamethrinment of a simple and reliable sensing system containing ATCh-TMB-H2O2 for the selective and sensitive assay of AChE activity and its inhibitor Deltamethrin, which is described in detail in another publication. As acetylcholine hydrolysis was shown to modify the peroxidase-like activity of acetylcholine, this activity was used to measure Deltamethrin with exceedingly sensitively with a low limit of (LOD) of 4.0 ng mL-1. The AChE inhibition allowed for the detection of Deltamethrin with a low-order. The real-world samples can be successfully identified using this method.

Résumé :
According to Tadeusz Kowzan, facial mime may be regarded as the system of kinetic signs that is closest to verbal expression. At the same time, as Kowzan contends, mime constitutes —together with gesture— the most personal and individualized expressive mode in the theatre, submitted as it is to the performer’s physical, psychological and actoral idiosyncrasies. In the dramatic production of the Afro-Caribbean playwright Edgar Nkosi White, mimic expression plays a prominent role: indeed, a broad variety of facial inscriptions informs both the dialogues and stage directions of his plays. Even if the mimic signs devised by the author have differentiated functions and do not exist in isolation, complementing as they do other verbal and non-verbal signs, most of them expose the inner and external tensions underlying situations of racial oppression. Considering the double axis of eye- and mouth-expression that determines facial gesturality, this essay intends to analyze the mimic expressivity of Edgar Nkosi White’s characters and its specific contribution to the author’s theatricalization of the phenomenon of racialism. At a more general level, the mimic designs inscribed in Edgar Nkosi White’s plays will be shown to unveil the discourse of ambivalence that tinges the racialized body when this is portrayed and represented from the victim’s point of view.

Résumé :
The sustainable energy transition to a low-carbon and climate-neutral economy by 2050 requires a consistent increase in the share of renewable energy sources (RESs) at the expense of the share of fossil fuels. The coal power plants in the Republic of Bulgaria have provided about one third of the annually produced electric power for decades, utilizing mainly locally available sources of lignite. The present work aimed to review the progress of the energy transition, its rejection and acceptance at the national and international scene alongside the available research for cleaner coal combustion in Bulgaria, as well as discuss a Bulgarian perspective for coal share reduction options for power generation during the energy transition. A comprehensive review was carried out, based on freely accessible data such as research and open media articles, officially published field reports, legislative and strategic acts as well as validated statistical data. Three groups of critical gaps (socioeconomic, sociotechnical and cultural and political) were indicated, claimed to be capable of guiding the just transition. Key factors influencing the process dynamics were identified and categorized in the context of the critical gaps. The peculiar policy criteria for the carbon-intensive regions are as follows: the dominant energy carriers, existing infrastructure, involved actors and choice of strategy. The observations allowed us to conclude that in addition to the efforts achieved and ambitious political will, the identification of reliable technological and socioeconomic measures is needed more than ever (accompanied by interdisciplinary research involving the technical, social and environmental and policy factors), while renewables still have long way to go towards complete substitution of the fossil fuels for power generation, transport, and manufacturing. Limited literature was found for reducing the share of coal from currently operating Bulgarian coal-fired power plants (CFPPs). Herein, short- and/or medium-term measures for carbon emission reduction were discussed, capable of promoting the limited operation of existing CFPPs, thus paving the road towards a sustainable, long-term transition. These measures concerned the typically used power units in the largest CFPPs located at the Maritsa Iztok Mining Complex (MIMC). Analyses of the biomass production, supply and cost for the same type of power units were proposed, considering the use of 100% biomass. Estimated costs, unit efficiencies and power generation were discussed along with the evaluations about the land use, ensuring a given annual productivity of wood chips from fast growing plants, e.g., Paulownia.

Résumé :
This paper presents an over-the-air testing method in which a full-rank channel matrix is created for a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system utilizing a fading emulator with a small number of scatterers. In the proposed method, in order to mimic a fading emulator with a large number of scatterers, the scatterers are virtually positioned by rotating the massive MIMO antenna. The performance of a 64-element quasi-half-wavelength dipole circular array antenna was evaluated using a two-dimensional fading emulator. The experimental results reveal that a large number of available eigenvalues are obtained from the channel response matrix, confirming that the proposed method, which utilizes a full-rank channel matrix, can be used to assess a massive MIMO antenna system.

Résumé :
Objective: Limited visibility of post-resection muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) on CT hinders radiotherapy dose escalation of the residual tumour. Diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) visualises areas of high tumour burden and is increasingly used within diagnosis and as a biomarker for cancer. DW-MRI could, therefore, facilitate dose escalation, potentially via dose-painting and/or accommodating response. However, the distortion inherent in DW-MRI could limit geometric accuracy. Therefore, this study aims to quantify DW-MRI distortion via imaging of a bladder phantom. Methods: A phantom was designed to mimic MIBC and imaged using CT, DW-MRI and T2W-MRI. Fiducial marker locations were compared across modalities and publicly available software was assessed for correction of magnetic susceptibility-related distortion. Results: Fiducial marker locations on CT and T2W-MRI agreed within 1.2 mm at 3 T and 1.8 mm at 1.5 T. The greatest discrepancy between CT and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps was 6.3 mm at 3 T, reducing to 1.8 mm when corrected for distortion. At 1.5 T, these values were 3.9 mm and 1.7 mm, respectively. Conclusions: Geometric distortion in DW-MRI of a model bladder was initially >6 mm at 3 T and >3 mm at 1.5 T; however, established correction methods reduced this to <2 mm in both cases. Advances in knowledge: A phantom designed to mimic MIBC has been produced and used to show distortion in DW-MRI can be sufficiently mitigated for incorporation into the radiotherapy pathway. Further investigation is therefore warranted to enable individually adaptive image-guided radiotherapy of MIBC based upon DW-MRI.

Résumé :
Recurrent wavelet neural network (RWNN) has the advantages such as fast learning property, good generalization capability and information storing ability. With these advantages, this paper proposes an RWNN-based adaptive control (RBAC) system for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) uncertain nonlinear systems. The RBAC system is composed of a neural controller and a bounding compensator. The neural controller uses an RWNN to online mimic an ideal controller, and the bounding compensator can provide smooth and chattering-free stability compensation. From the Lyapunov stability analysis, it is shown that all signals in the closed-loop RBAC system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the proposed RBAC system is applied to the MIMO uncertain nonlinear systems such as a mass-spring-damper mechanical system and a two-link robotic manipulator system. Simulation results verify that the proposed RBAC system can achieve favorable tracking performance with desired robustness without any chattering phenomenon in the control effort.

AbstractIn Herondas' mimiamb 8, a poem particularly concerned with questions of generic identity and reception, the poet defends his work and puts forward his literary program by means of a dream dominated by images related to Dionysiac myth and cult. The interpretation of the dream at ll. 66-79 is seen in terms of the generic affinities between Herondas' mimiambs, the iambographic tradition of Hipponax and the mime. In this paper the Dionysiac character of those images is not considered as an indication of a hypothetically dramatic nature of Herondas' work. It is argued, by contrast, that the poem's Dionysiac imagery and its subsequent interpretation are linked with the associations of Herondas' work with the mime and, more specifically, with the non-literary mime. Mimiamb 8 is considered as part of a long process through which the latter was eventually regarded as a dramatic genre. Herondas seems to be conscious of the disreputable character of that part of his sources, but attempts by means of a masterful use of images pertaining to Dionysiac myth and ritual to persuade his critics of the dramatic nature of the mimic origins of his work so as to invest his poetry with the authority and prestige of dramatic poetry.

Résumé :
Abstract MHC II molecules present peptides derived from exogenous protein antigens. Antigens are delivered through the endosomal/lysosomal pathway to the MIIC which contains DM. Nascent MHC II molecules are directed to this same compartment through association with the invariant chain (Ii). During this process Ii is progressively cleaved leaving the placeholder peptide CLIP in the peptide binding groove of the newly translated MHC II molecule. In the MIIC, DM facilitates the exchange of CLIP peptide for high affinity peptides derived from internalized antigens before export of MHC II to the cell surface. Peptides bound to MHC II are generally very stable and can have half lives of days to weeks, while MHC II molecules that have lost peptide rapidly denature, preventing opportunistic binding of unsuitable peptides at the cell surface. These mechanisms greatly hinder peptide immunogenicity as unstructured peptide do not survive to intersect with the MIIC and there is a paucity of empty MHC II receptors on the cell surface to accept exogenously supplied peptides. Through high-throughput screening efforts we have found a number of small molecules that enhance peptide binding to MHC II. One of these small molecules is able to mimic the function of DM at the cell surface and greatly enhances peptide display in vivo. Modeling of putative small molecule interaction sites has led to the discovery of residues that are critical for DM function.

Résumé :
Abstract The outcome of patients with Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC) is highly variable with many patients experiencing progressive disease despite multimodal therapy. A key variable that contributes to poor patient outcomes lies in our inability to predict therapeutic response due to the molecular heterogeneity of MIBC tumors. There is, therefore, a significant unmet clinical need to accurately predict effective drug combinations and therapeutic doses in individual patients with MIBC. Patient-derived tumor organoids (PDOs) have the potential to serve as an ex vivo model of urothelial carcinoma (UC) capable of functionally predicting patient-specific treatment responses. However, current culture procedures typically rely on the expansion of UC organoids from resected tumors or biopsy specimens, which is inherently invasive and hence limits clinical application. We hypothesized that culture of MIBC PDOs can be achieved from urine samples, as is the case in dogs with MIBC, since histopathological features, tumor heterogeneity and subtypes, metastatic activity, and gene expression profiles of canine MIBC mimic those of human MIBC. Herein, we successfully cultured MIBC organoids from both human and canine patients using first-catch urine. Briefly, after centrifuging urine samples to pellet cells, the cells were washed with basal culture media containing FBS and Pen/Strep before being cultured in canine or human culture media containing essential growth factors based on their species of origin. Paraffin-embedded samples were used for molecular characterization by RNA in situ hybridization or immunohistochemistry. Organoids from canine MIBC patients were analyzed for expression of the urothelial differentiation marker (FOXA1) associated with high grade bladder cancer, CD44, a non-kinase transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in UC cancer stem cells, and CK7, an epithelial cell marker that is upregulated in neoplastic UC cells. FOXA1 expression was undetectable in canine MIBC, although CD44 expression was enhanced compared to healthy dog bladder organoids. All canine MIBC organoids had significantly enhanced CK7 expression. Similarly, in human-derived UC organoids, GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3), transcription factor paired box 8 (Pax8), and tumor protein p63 were utilized as markers, with a Pax8-/p63+/GATA3+ profile indicating UC origin of the organoids. Functional response to chemotherapy (cisplatin and gemcitabine) was further assessed using cell viability assay in canine and human UC organoids. Our data suggest that organoids cultured from the urine of patients with MIBC can recapitulate organ structures and maintain marker expression profiles of the original tumor tissues. 3D organoids may provide novel insights to predict therapeutic response to chemotherapy and serve as early diagnostic biomarkers of bladder cancer in both canine and human patients.
