Texte intégralThe shipbuilding industry represents a critical sector for many countries’ national economy and impacts direct and induced employment. It involves a vast and intricate network of links and exchanges among the sector itself and other industries. This network is embedded in a complex logistical operations system that represents one of the main pillars supporting the phenomenon of non-core functions outsourcing that has been characterising the shipbuilding sector since the last decades and has promoted the growth of a Global Value Chains (GVC). One of the main challenges of this GVC is the management of an increasingly extensive network of suppliers. In particular, in this work, we consider the fabrication of the hulls, which are built in sections called blocks, whose production usually is entrusted to specialised suppliers that cut, bend, shape and weld steel slabs and profiles together to obtain the subassemblies that will be one by one put together in the shipyard to obtain the whole hull. In these phases, the coordination between steel mill, subassembly centres and shipyards is fundamental. Each involved site should have a very high degree of efficiency to achieve this coordination, which cannot but pass through continuous processes optimisation. One of this process is represented by managing the steel slabs: steel plates that can weigh up to more than 13 tons and whose extension can reach 46 m^2. Due to their physical characteristics, steel slabs are stored in stacks. The storage and retrieval of the steel slabs from the stack concern all the involved sites (steel mill, subassembly centres and shipyards) and represent one of the main issues to overcome to avoid bottlenecks in the production process. Indeed, being the slabs stacked one on the other, when a slab is not on the top of its stack, to retrieve it, a shift of the elements above the target one is necessary. Each shift is called “shuffle”, and the less is the number of shuffles, the faster is the retrieval process. In literature, one of the problems related to the retrieval of steel slabs stored in stacks is known as the Slab Stack Shuffling (SSS) problem. In this work, after a review of the existing body of literature, we propose a new framework to collect all the elements that characterise the SSS problem in the most diverse contexts in which it occurs. Then, the works on this problem are placed in the proposed framework to bring out the gaps to fill. Downstream of the framework, we present some mathematical models and a relative heuristics approach to extend the application context. We introduce new features related explicitly to cutting/assembly centres that the SSS problems analysed at state of the art have never considered. Finally, the heuristic approach’s efficiency is compared with the model results through experimentation conducted on ad-hoc generated instances.

Texte intégralEver more detailed definitions of aerobic gymnastics performance models are fundamental for providing useful information in order to optimise training programmes. As it not yet an Olympic discipline, this technical-combinatory sport undergoes continuous changes to its Scoring System, causing changes to the performance model. Taking previous studies as a starting point, the morphological and mechanical-muscular properties of elite gymnasts were compared. Global and analytical postural evaluations were carried out, and the testing of equilibrium and some technical jumps, measuring force and control, was performed. Ten Italian gymnasts from the senior aerobic gymnastics national team (five males and five females) and nine gymnasts from the junior national team (all female), with six senior gymnasts (three males and three females) and two junior gymnasts (female) used as a control sample, took part in the study. After signing an informed consent form, gymnasts were asked to undergo a global postural appraisal using the Squat Test and an analytical postural test using the Sit & Reach Test and other guided stretching movements for the flexibility of some muscular districts. Static equilibrium and the mechanical properties of two technical jumps were evaluated using the Muscle-Lab Bosco System Force Platform, dynamic equilibrium was tested with the Delos Postural System and explosiveness was tested using the bipodalic and monopodalic Squat Jump, the Counter Movement Jump with free arms and hands on hips using the quattro jump force plate. The analysis of acquired data shows that morphological properties as well as values for explosiveness and the reuse of elastic energy for elite gymnasts have remained unchanged over the years. The global postural appraisal highlighted the problems of varus/valgus, pronation of the feet and hyperlordosis, especially among elite groups. The analytical postural evaluation showed excellent flexibility in all the groups examined. Equilibrium tests showed that elite gymnasts have a greater capacity to regain stability, in particular males regain stability using more the vestibular system, while females favour the proprioceptor system. Elite gymnasts use a force for technical jumps that ranges from 60 to 80% of their max. force, while the percentage for the control sample was 97%, demonstrating that technique and coordination impact on muscular cost. Comparing data on explosiveness from this research with previous studies, it is confirmed that changes to the rules of this sporting discipline have little bearing on muscular aspects, while they chiefly impact metabolic aspects of performance.

Texte intégralThe electromobility plays a key role for locally reducing the harmful emissions, usually due to the internal combustion engine vehicles. Unlike these vehicles, the Electric Vehicles (EVs) guarantee eco-sustainable transport solutions and several economic benefits. Moreover, they can be used for providing services in limited traffic areas and/or services on demand. The aim of this thesis is to efficiently plan the routes of a fleet of EVs in a transport network for serving the demand of a set of customers. The problem, known in Operations Research as Electric Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows, has been addressed, from the modeling point of view, by proposing a mixed integer linear programming formulation, for optimizing the number of EVs used and the time spent by them outside the depot. Time windows within the customers have to be served and the related service times are considered; constraints on the maximum time duration of the trips and on the capacity of the EVs are imposed. Moreover, the use of a fleet of EVs implies constraints on the battery capacity. Therefore, defining the visit sequences, stops at the recharging stations are also included. Each EV starts from the depot and it returns to the depot after serving the demand of a certain set of customers, respecting the conditions listed above with the traditional routing constraints. The contribution of this thesis is to consider the battery quantity recharged at the stations as decision variable, established by the model during the route planning. Since the solution of the problem at hand is hard on instances with a large number of customers, a matheuristic is proposed that, combining a metaheuristic (Variable Neighborhood Search) with the mathematical programming, detects good quality solutions in reasonable amount of time. The numerical results, on benchmark instances taken from the literature, remark that the proposed mathematical model finds solutions also dominant the ones of the model with fixed recharges and the good performances of the matheuristic.
