Résumé :
Since mesoporous silica such as MCM-41 and SBA-15 was developed, the study of the properties of high-surface area materials was accelerated. Moreover, the mesoporous silica is used as a template to produce high-surface materials by nanocasting technology. The purpose of this paper is the synthesis of a high surface silicon carbide sphere by the nanocasting technology. In this study, KCC-1 silica sphere was used as a template, and polycarbosilane and poly (phenyl carbosilane) were selected for precursor of silicon carbide. Carbosilane polymer gives advantage of synthesis silicon carbide under low temperature, and hollow spheres were produced. In this study, the polycarbosilane was more effective for the synthesis of SiC hollow spheres by inversion of template structure showing a fibrous morphology on the sphere wall. And it was confirmed that the sphere was composed of nanosized SiC crystals, and has high surface area using TEM, XRD and BET analysis.

Résumé :
Earlier, we have published a paper on the preparation of silica sphere using propanol as cosurfactant. We report here a highly cost-effective method of preparation of mesoporous silica spheres with core shell structure using sodium silicate as silica precursor, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as surfactant, and methanol as cosurfactant. Thus after removal of the template by dissolutions or/and activation at higher temperature, mesoporous silica spheres with core shell structure were obtained. The products prepared with methanol to CTAB molar ratio 8.5 : 1 were confirmed to give best results. All the spherical products have very large surface area (∼589–1044 m2/g), pore volume (∼0.98–1.41 cm3/g), and ordered pore structure.

Résumé :
Mesoporous silica sphere (MSS) with switchable gates was prepared by the graft of pH-sensitive propyldiethylenetriamine groups (multiamine chains) around mesopore outlets. The textural parameters of the resultant material had been analyzed. In the following test of in vitrodrug release, the gated mesoporous material showed high response to solution pH. At high pH (pH 7.5), ibuprofen (IBU) that loaded in this carrier released rapidly and completely (within 2 h); at low pH (pH 4.0 or 5.0), only a small part of the IBU (13 wt%) was slowly released from this carrier and the most of IBU was effectively confined in mesopores.

Résumé :
Mesoporous silica can be synthesized by either the alkaline route or the acidic route, both using surfactants as templates. Morphological transformations of mesoporous silica can produce various hierarchical orders. Different morphologies are produced under different synthetic conditions. In the alkaline route, the surfactant/silicate liquid crystal system undergoes phase transformation to form vesicles and further transforms to the hexagonal phase. The results are tubule-within-tubule and hollow pillar-within-sphere structures depending on cosurfactant/surfactant composition. Using nitric acid in the acidic route, one can obtain hierarchical ropes or gyroids depending on stirring conditions. Ammonia hydrothermal treatment can induce further morphological transformation to nanotubes of mesoporous silica.

Résumé :
AbstractA three-step method was used for the synthesis of mesoporous carbon sphere (MCS) material: firstly, silica (SiO2) nanoparticles were synthesized by the modified Stöber procedure; secondly, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) were grafted onto SiO2 core nanoparticles to prepare SiO2@SiO2-CTAC hard templates; lastly, MCS material was fabricated by carbonizing and selective leaching SiO2/resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) composites. The influence of the mass ratio of R-F/silica on the structure, morphology and crystal form was studied. The results indicate that the MCS materials have a uniform morphology. The increase of the mass ratio of R-F/silica can increase the specific surface area and pore volume. The three-step method provides a cost-effective procedure for the fabrication of MCS materials with uniform morphology.

Résumé :
Three-dimensionally ordered macroporous (3DOM) carbon with mesoporous walls was prepared by the colloidal crystal templating method using polystyrene (PS) and silica particles. Colloidal crystals consisting of monodispersed PS sphere (204 nm diameter) and silica particles (4–6 nm) were carbonized in Ar , and the silica was removed by etching in HF, and then 3DOM carbon with bimodal pore structure was obtained. Conducting polymers of polyaniline (PAn) and polypyrrole (PPy) were electrochemically deposited on the internal surface of macropores in 3DOM carbons. The mesopores were not closed after the deposition of the polymers. The composites were utilized as electrodes for electrochemical capacitors. The specific capacitances of prepared carbon– PAn and carbon– PPy composites were found to be 237 and 152 F g-1, respectively. The incorporation of the conducting polymers dramatically increased the charge storage capacities of the 3DOM carbon electrodes.

Résumé :
A mesoporous material sphere based on silica, SBA-16, was chemically modified with alkoxysilane using two different solvents: methanol and toluene. The influence of the chemical modification of the matrix on the release rate of a model drug was also studied. The structural characteristics of the materials were evaluated by small-angle X-ray diffraction, N2adsorption, and transmission electron microscopy. The functionalization of the matrix was evaluated using thermal analysis, FTIR spectroscopy,13C and29Si solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance, and elemental analysis, CHN. The results show that alkoxysilane groups have been chemically bonded to silicon atoms on the surface of cubic Im3m mesoporous silica. The influence of the release rate of atenolol molecules from chemically modified mesoporous SBA-16 could be identified, since significant differences could be observed among the release patterns of the different materials.

Résumé :
A rattle-type diamine-functionalized mesoporous silica sphere (DA-RMSS) was fabricated stepwise using a self-templating method through cationic surfactant assisted selective etching strategy. The rattle-type morphology of the obtained DA-RMSS material was disclosed by transmission electron microscopy, while its chemical composition was characterized by CHN elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and solid-state 29Si cross-polarization/magic-angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic measurement, which corroborates the successful formation of siloxane network and the incorporation of organic component. Moreover, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherm measurement was conducted to reveal that DA-RMSS possesses large Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) specific surface area of 814 m2g–1, pore volume of 0.78 cm3g–1, and narrow pore size distribution centered at 3.0 nm. Furthermore, its uptake property on carbon dioxide was also investigated in this contribution.

Résumé :
Purpose. Study pore size effect and morphology of mesoporous silica on metoprolol tartrate release.Methodology. A sample of hollow mesoporous silicon dioxide with amino-functional groups containing 12.7 wt. % metoprolol tartrate has been investigated as potential carriers for the controlled release of active substance. Studies of the release profiles of metoprolol tartrate were performed under the following conditions: dissolution medium was buffer solution with a pH of 7.4 (phosphate buffer); sampling time: from 0.5 h before 18 h. The metoprolol concentration in the liquid phase was evaluated by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Persee TU-190, Beijing, China) by use of quartz cuvettes with an optical path length of 1 cm at a maximum wavelength of 274 nm.Findings. In this work we have studied mesoporous silica as possible carrier to controlled release of metoprolol tartrate, a drug used in the treatment of some diseases of the cardiovascular system. The material for research was a sample of hollow mesoporous silicon dioxide with amino-functional groups 200–400 nm in size and 20–30 nm in shell thickness. A calibrated curve to determine the amount of metoprolol was constructed by determining the absorption dependence of the concentration of metoprolol in the range from 10 to 300 ppm. The same drug concentration was obtained as calculated from the drug release test formula, which concludes that the release of metoprolol is controlled.Originality. The controlled release of a sample of hollow spheres of mesoporous silicon dioxide filled with metoprolol tartrate was studied, which was synthesized by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Qilu University of Technology, using a new technology, where hollow spheres of mesoporous silicon dioxide with amino groups were synthesized using CO2 gas bubbles as templates.Practical value. The metoprolol release amount could achieve a 50% release amounts within 1 hour and 90% within 5 hours, indicating that the synthesized mesoporous hollow sphere could achieve controlled drug release, and shows the potential of carriers with stimulus response and targeted therapy.

Résumé :
Highly crystalline ZnO/mesoporous hollow silica sphere (MHSS) composites have been successfully synthesized through an impregnation method at 323K without applying calcination. Three composites of different Zn/Si molar ratios of 1:2, 1:1, and 2:1 were prepared. X-Ray diffraction patterns confirmed the presence of highly crystalline ZnO in the materials. A layer of ZnO was formed on the MHSS as evidenced by field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. Transmission electron microscopy analysis verified the mesoporous structure in ZnO/MHSS composites. N2 adsorption–desorption analysis indicated a type IV isotherm for 1ZnO/2MHSS and 1ZnO/1MHSS samples, confirming the presence of mesopores in the ZnO layer. It has been demonstrated that all the ZnO/MHSS composites exhibit a high photocatalytic activity towards sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate degradation compared with bare ZnO under UV irradiation. A kinetic study showed that the photodegradation followed a second order model. Among the prepared composites, 1ZnO/1MHSS recorded the highest reaction rate of 6.03×10−3mM−1min−1 which is attributed to a high crystallinity and the monodispersity of a high amount of ZnO on MHSS.

A novel nanofiller containing layered organo-modifed montmorillonite (oM) and mesoporous silica micro-sphere (MS) was prepared by in situ deposition method, and the microstructures and morphologies of this nanofiller were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM). EP/oM-MS nanocomposite was obtained by adding oM-MS to EP matrix. Morphologies and mechanical of the new ternary nanocomposite were investigated. For purpose of comparison, the corresponding binary nanocomposites, i.e., EP modified with either oM or MS, were tested as well. The test results of mechanical properties show that oM obviously improves the strength of EP and MS enhances the toughness of EP, but oM-MS exhibits synergistic effect on toughening and reinforcing of EP.

Résumé :
Synthesis of hybrids of a porous host-material (with well-dispersed embedded nanoparticles inside the pore), wherein each nanoparticle has precisely controlled properties (size and composition) poses a generic challenge. To this end, a new strategy is proposed to form SnxTi1−xO2 solid-solution-nanoparticles inside the pores of sphere-like mesoporous silica (SBA-15), with different percentages of Sn in the nanoparticle (varying from 5 to 50 at%), for enhanced photocatalysis. X-ray diffraction confirms the formation of solid-solution nanoparticles in the porous silica hybrid, while the location of nanoparticles and elemental composition are identified using electron microscopy. The hybrid with 5 at% of Sn (Sn0.05Ti0.95O2-sphere-like SBA-15) shows the maximum photocatalytic activity for degradation of rhodamine-B dye (first order rate constant for degradation, k = 1.86 h−1), compared to both pure TiO2-sphere-like SBA-15 (k = 1.38 h−1) or pure SnO2-sphere-like SBA-15 (k = 0.14 h−1) or other hybrids in this series. XPS and PL spectra suggest the formation of more oxygen vacancies during the replacement of Ti4+ with Sn4+. Electrochemical studies reveal that there is a reduction of charge transfer resistance from 910 kΩ cm−2 for TiO2-sphere-like SBA-15, to 332 kΩ cm−2 for Sn0.05Ti0.95O2-sphere-like SBA-15. These results imply that the enhancement in photocatalytic performance is as a result of delay in recombination of charge carriers. Therefore, the approach followed in the present work to form solid-solution nanoparticles inside a porous host without causing pore blockage, would be a promising route towards increasing reaction rates in catalytic applications of hybrid materials.

Résumé :
Molecularly imprinted composite materials (PM) selective to S-naproxen were prepared in the surface of mesoporous silica sphere (SBA-15) by surface imprinting technique. FT-IR, SEM and surface area analysis were used to study the structural morphology of PM and MIPs particles and probe the incorporation of polymer into the SBA-15 framework. The results revealed that PM showed better binding affinity and selectivity to the template molecule than MIPs and the maximum saturated binding capacity of PM to S-naproxen and R-naproxen was about 10.3332 and 6.0063µmol·g-1. Meanwhile, we achieve a reference strategy for the development of molecularly imprinting polymer for drugs and to handle forms in certain applications such as chromatographic stationary phases for chiral separations.

Résumé :
Incorporated with pore sizes of 2-50 nm, CHA was found to be a promising drug delivery agent for disease treatment and could be a carrier for different types of proteins. A desired drug delivery system should consist of an ordered pore network, optimum pore size, and volume, as well as a high surface area, to allow a high drug adsorption rate, controllable drug loading, and release. However, until now, most results are still not up to expectation; since the BET surface area and pore volume obtained has been rather low, compared to the existing mesoporous silica. The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of surfactant washing on the pore characteristics and the importance of this step in the synthesis process of mesoporous carbonated hydroxyapatite (CHA). In this study, mesostructured CHA particles were prepared, via a self-assembly mechanism, between CHA and non-ionic surfactant (P123), using the co-precipitation synthesis method. The synthesized mesoporous CHA samples were washed five times using different types of solvents for surfactant removal. A sphere-like particle shape of CHA was observed under SEM for all samples; regardless of the type of solvent used. The formation of CHA was confirmed by FTIR analysis, where the carbonate ion peaks were observed in the spectrums. It was found that the mesoporous CHA with a high surface area was synthesized when high polarity solvents were used during surfactant washing. These results imply that high surface area mesoporous CHA can be obtained through surfactant washing, without applying calcination for surfactant removal, which may change the structure of the CHA during heat treatment.

Résumé :
Hollow-structured mesoporous silica has wide applications in catalysis and drug delivery due to its high surface area, large hollow space, and short diffusion mesochannels. However, the synthesis of hollow structures usually requires sacrificial templates, leading to increased production costs and environmental problems. Here, for the first time, amino-functionalized mesoporous silica hollow spheres were synthesized by using CO2 gaseous bubbles as templates. The assembly of anionic surfactants, co-structure directing agents, and inorganic silica precursors around CO2 bubbles formed the mesoporous silica shells. The hollow silica spheres, 200–400 nm in size with 20–30 nm spherical shell thickness, had abundant amine groups on the surface of the mesopores, indicating excellent applications for CO2 capture, Knoevenagel condensation reaction, and the controlled release of Drugs.

Résumé :
Mesoporous silica materials have attracted great research interest for various applications ranging from (bio)catalysis and sensing to drug delivery. It remains challenging to prepare hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSN) with large center-radial mesopores that could provide a more efficient transport channel through the cell for guest molecules. Here, we propose a novel strategy for the preparation of HMSN with large dendritic mesopores to achieve higher enzyme loading capacity and more efficient bioreactors. The materials were prepared by combining barium sulfate nanoparticles (BaSO4 NP) as a hard template and the in situ-formed 3-aminophenol/formaldehyde resin as a porogen for directing the dendritic mesopores’ formation. HMSNs with different particle sizes, shell thicknesses, and pore structures have been prepared by choosing BaSO4 NP of various sizes and adjusting the amount of tetraethyl orthosilicate added in synthesis. The obtained HMSN-1.1 possesses a high pore volume (1.07 cm3 g−1), a large average pore size (10.9 nm), and dendritic mesopores that penetrated through the shell. The advantages of HMSNs are also demonstrated for enzyme (catalase) immobilization and subsequent use of catalase-loaded HMSNs as bioreactors for catalyzing the H2O2 degradation reaction. The hollow and dendritic mesoporous shell features of HMSNs provide abundant tunnels for molecular transport and more accessible surfaces for molecular adsorption, showing great promise in developing efficient nanoreactors and drug delivery vehicles.
