Résumé :
In recent years, the sol-gel technique has attracted increasing interest as a unique approach to immobilize biomolecules for bioanalitical applications as well as biochemical and biophysical studies. In this research, encapsulation of Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) enzyme in mesoporous methyl-silica hybrid by sol-gel process has been carried out. Mesoporous methyl-silica hybrid has been synthesis by using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) as precursor and poly(ethylene) glycol (PEG) as a polymer dopant. The preparation of methyl-silica hybrid was carried out at various mol ratios of precursors and PEG concentration. Encapsulation was emphasized by mixing sol solution and tris-HCl buffer containing ALP. The Surface Area Analyzer analysis data showed that the pore diameter and surface area of methyl-silica hybrid tended to increase as the PEG dopant concentration increases. Result showed that ALP encapsulated in the methyl-silica hybrids with PEG dopant gave enzymatic activity as 0.112 U/mg enzyme, higher than ALP encapsulated in copolymerization of TEOS with MTES or in silica from TEOS precursor only (0.098 U/mg enzyme and 0.069 U/mg enzyme, respectively). It was shown that copolymerization of TEOS with organosilane precursor and the entrapment of polymer additives into sol-gel processed materials are useful methods for modifying the internal environment and hence the activity of biomolecules entrapped in sol-gel derived biomaterials.

Résumé :
The goal of tissue-engineered heart valves (TEHV) is to replace normal heart valves and overcome the shortcomings of heart valve replacement commonly used in clinical practice. However, calcification of TEHV is the major bottleneck to break for both clinical workers and researchers. Endothelialization of TEHV plays a crucial role in delaying valve calcification by reducing platelet adhesion and covering the calcified spots. In the present study, we loaded RunX2-siRNA and VEGF into mesoporous silica nanoparticles and investigated the properties of anti-calcification and endothelialization in vitro. Then, the mesoporous silica nanoparticle was immobilized on the decellularized porcine aortic valve (DPAV) by layer self-assembly and investigated the anti-calcification and endothelialization. Our results demonstrated that the mesoporous silica nanoparticles delivery vehicle demonstrated good biocompatibility, and a stable release of RunX2-siRNA and VEGF. The hybrid decellularized valve exhibited a low hemolysis rate and promoted endothelial cell proliferation and adhesion while silencing RunX2 gene expression in valve interstitial cells, and the hybrid decellularized valve showed good mechanical properties. Finally, the in vivo experiment showed that the mesoporous silica nanoparticles delivery vehicle could enhance the endothelialization of the hybrid valve. In summary, we constructed a delivery system based on mesoporous silica to biofunctionalized TEHV scaffold for endothelialization and anti-calcification.

Résumé :
Binary organic-inorganic mesoporous hybrid materials were prepared by covalntly grafting Lanthanide (III) (Eu) trifluoroacetylaceton (TAA) complexes to the ordered meosoporous silica SBA-15 via hydrothermal method and hydrolysis and co-polycondensation method with the surfactant P123 and TEOS. Besides, Novel ternary lanthanide (III) (Eu) organic-inorganic-polymeric mesoporous hybrid materials have been synthesized as well through the introduction of the organic polymer PMAA to the binary system with covalent bond. We investigated the thermal stability and luminescence properties of hybrids and found that the ternary hybrid materials exhibit better thermal stability and stronger emission intensity. Furthermore, compared with the binary mesoporous material Eu (TAA-SBA-15)3, the ternary mesoporous material Eu (TAA-SBA-15)3PMMA exhibits the characteristic emission of the Eu3+ ion with a higher luminescence Intensity, suggesting that the introduction of polymer PMMA into the mesoporous matrix is of benefit for the sensitization of Eu3+ luminescence, by replacing H2O groups that can quench the luminescence of Eu3+ ion.

Résumé :
Hybridisation of mesoporous organosilicas (MO) to reinforce the surface capability in adsorption and stabilisation of noble metal nanoparticles is of great attention in generating/supporting noble metal within their matrices and transforming them into efficient heterogeneous catalysts. Here, we used a unique hybrid of organic-inorganic mesoporous silica in which pore profile pattern was similar to the well-known mesoporous silica, SBA-15 for catalysis. This hybrid mesoporous organosilica was further engaged as a support in the synthesis and stabilisation of Pd nanoparticles on its surface, and then, the obtained Pd-supported MO was employed as a heterogeneous green catalyst in the conversion of aqueous p-nitrophenol (PNP) to p-aminophenol (PAP) at room temperature with efficient recyclability.

Résumé :
In this work we have synthesized and characterized new hybrid nanoplatforms for luminescent biolabeling based on the concept of Eu3+complexes encapsulation in mesoporous silica nanoparticles (≈100 nm). Eu complexes have been selected on the basis of their capability to be excited at 365 nm which is a currently available wavelength, on routine epifluorescence microscope. For Eu complexes encapsulation, two different routes have been used: the first route consists in grafting the transition metal complex into the silica wall surface. The second way deals with impregnation of the mesoporous silica NPs with the Eu complex. Using the second route, a silica shell coating is realized, to prevent any dye release, and the best result has been obtained using Eu-BHHCT complex. However, the best solution appears to be the grafting of Eu(TTA)3-Phen-Si to mesoporous silica NPs. For this hybrid, mSiO2-Eu(TTA)3(Phen-Si) full characterization of the nanoplatforms is also presented.

Résumé :
A new universal approach to the biomimetic synthesis of hybrid organosilicate nanocomposites with texture and functionality good control has been developed, which consists in the use of biomacromolecules as mesogenic templates. The main strategy is to combine the self-association of polysaccharide nanorods with the flexibility of the sol-gel process in the chemistry of siloxane oligomers formed at various pH values of 3, 5, 8. The measured isotherms of low-temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption by samples obtained at pH 5 and 8 refer to isotherms of type IV (a) characteristic of mesoporous adsorbents. The isotherms are dominated by the triangular hysteresis H2(a), which is due to network effects in ordered mesoporous materials of the SBA-16 and KIT-5 types. The isotherms of the samples obtained at pH 3 are of the hybrid type (I+IV) with the H4 hysteresis inherent in microporous adsorbents with slit-like mesopores between agglomerates of silica particles. It is shown that the control of the textural properties of hybrid nanocomposites and porous silica is possible by changing the temperature of thermal activation of organosilicate samples and the pH value of the silica gel precipitation medium. The advantage of the developed synthesis is the formation of new functionalities on the surface of silica through its heat treatment while maintaining the polysaccharide template either as its own functional basis or as a carbon resource.

Résumé :
Mesoporous methyl-silica hybrid has been synthesized through sol-gel process, by using tetraethylorthosilicate and methyltriethoxysilane as precursors and tartaric acid as a template. The adsorbent was applied to study the adsorption of alizarin red-S. The preparation of methyl-silica hybrid was carried out at various mol ratios of precursors and tartaric acid concentration. The methyl-silica hybrid result was characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and surface area analyzer. Adsorption experiment was conducted to study the effect of pH and Alizarin Red-S concentration on the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent. The adsorbed Alizarin Red-S was calculated from different of Alizarin Red-S concentration before and after adsorption based on the analysis with UV-Vis method. Characterization with Infrared Spectroscopy showed that methyl-silica hybrid has been successfully synthesized as indicated by appearance of characteristic functional group vibrations i.e Si-C, silanol (Si-OH) and siloksan (Si-O-Si). The X-ray diffraction data showed amorphous structure of methyl-silica Hybrid. The Surface Area Analyzer analysis data showed that the pore diameter and surface area of methyl-silica hybrid tended to increase as the template concentration increases. Adsorption study of methyl-silica hybrid showed that the adsorption decreased as the pH was increased. The optimum adsorption was obtained at pH=2.0 with the concentration of Alizarin Red-S of 70 mg/L. Keywords: sol-gel, tartaric acid template, mesoporous, adsorption

In a sol–gel co-condensation, a mesoporous silica hybrid integrated with (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (TMPSH) was prepared and then reacted with allylamine via a post-surface functionalization approach. Approximately 15 mol% of TMSPSH was introduced into the mesoporous silica pore walls along with tetraethyl orthosilicate. The mercapto ligands in the prepared mesoporous silica pore walls were then reacted with allylamine (AM) to form the mercapto–amine-modified mesoporous silica adsorbent (MSH@MA). The MSH@MA NPs demonstrate highly selective adsorption of copper (Cu2+) ions (~190 mg/g) with a fast equilibrium adsorption time (30 min). The prepared adsorbent shows at least a five times more efficient recyclable stability. The MSH@MA NPs adsorbent is useful for selective adsorption of Cu2+ ions.

Résumé :
We report the effect of solvent on the rhodamine 6G encapsuled into channels of mesoporous silica, synthesized by two-step process that gives intermediary stable hybrid micelles. Mesoporous materials have been obtained by the method that involves surfactant micelles (mainly cationic) and inorganic precursor of the structure to be obtained. MSU-X type mesoporous silica has been synthesized with polyethylene oxide surfactant as the directing-structure agent and tetraethyl orthosilicate Si(OEt)4 as the silica source. The influence of the solvent on the encapsulation of rhodamine dye was systematically explored, specially its influence on the luminescence properties. Rhodamine 6G encapsuled into mesoporous silica channel was characterized by UV-Vis and luminescence spectroscopies, scanning electron microscopy, small angle x ray scattering and N2 sorption-desorption. The pore size and the solvent effects into luminescence dye encapsuled into mesoporous silica channels are observed in the visible absorption and emission spectra of rhodamine 6G. The intense photoluminescence band of rhodamine 6G dye is in 500 to 600 nm region. The observed shift of the absorption and emission bands can be assigned to the effect of the solvents dielectric constant and pore size of mesoporous silica.

Résumé :
The mesoporous silica particles were prepared by the sol?gel method in one-step synthesis, in acidic conditions, from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES), varying the mole ratio of the silica precursors. Nitric acid was used as catalyst at room temperature and hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as structure directing agent. Optical properties, porosity and microstructure of the materials in function of the MTES/TEOS ratio were evaluated using infrared spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption and small angle X-ray scattering. All materials showed the ordered pore structure and the high specific surfaces, making them suitable as the drug delivery systems. Drug loading and release tests using ketoprofen were performed to assess their performance for drug delivery applications. The amount of the methylated precursor used in the synthesis had little effect on the drug loading capacity, but had a strong influence on the initial rate of the drug release.

Résumé :
Mesoporous silicas have enjoyed great interest among scientists practically from the moment of their discovery thanks to their unique attractive properties. Many types of mesoporous silicas have been described in literature, the most thoroughly MCM-41 and SBA-15 ones. The focus of this review are the methods of syntheses, characterization and use of mesoporous silicas from SBA (Santa Barbara Amorphous) and HMM (Hybrid Mesoporous Materials) groups. The first group is represented by (i) SBA-1 of three-dimensional cubic structure and Pm3¯n symmetry and (ii) SBA-2 of three-dimensional combined hexagonal and cubic structures and P63/mmc symmetry. The HMM group is represented by (i) HMM-1 of two-dimensional hexagonal structure and p6mm symmetry and (ii) HMM-2 of three-dimensional structure and P63/mmc symmetry. The paper provides comprehensive information on the above-mentioned silica materials available so far, also including the data for the silicas modified with metal ions or/and organic functional groups and examples of the materials applications.

Résumé :
We report on the synthesis of 3D mesoporous fullerene/carbon hybrid materials with ordered porous structure and high surface area by mixing the solution of fullerene and sucrose molecules in the nanochannels of 3D mesoporous silica, KIT-6 via nanotemplating approach. The addition of sucrose molecules in the synthesis offers a thin layer of carbon between the fullerene molecules which enhances not only the specific surface area and the specific pore volume but also the conductivity of the hybrid materials. The prepared hybrids exhibit 3D mesoporous structure and show a much higher specific surface area than that of the pure mesoporous fullerene. The hybrids materials are used as the electrodes for supercapacitor and Li-ion battery applications. The optimised hybrid sample shows an excellent rate capability and a high specific capacitance of 254 F/g at the current density of 0.5 A/g, which is much higher than that of the pure mesoporous fullerene, mesoporous carbon, activated carbon and multiwalled carbon nanotubes. When used as the electrode for Li-ion battery, the sample delivers the largest specific capacity of 1067 mAh/g upon 50 cycles at the current density of 0.1 A/g with stability. These results reveal that the addition of carbon in the mesoporous fullerene with 3D structure makes a significant impact on the electrochemical properties of the hybrid samples, demonstrating their potential for applications in Li-ion battery and supercapacitor devices.

Résumé :
Photoreduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu metal by titanium(IV) oxide (TiO2) was conducted in the presence of a silica–surfactant hybrid under sulfuric acid conditions. After irradiation, a dark-red color, reflections due to Cu metal in the X-ray diffraction pattern, and peaks due to Cu 2p1/2 and 2p3/2 in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum indicated the precipitation of Cu metal in the product. In addition, an increase in the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface area from 36 and 45 m2/g for the silica–surfactant and TiO2, respectively, to 591 m2/g for the product, and a decrease in the intensity of the C-H stretching band in the Fourier–transform infra-red spectra implied the removal of surfactant during the reaction. These characteristics were never observed when TiO2 was used solely. Therefore, this study indicated that the photoreduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu metal by TiO2 was facilitated under the sulfuric acid medium, where the surfactants extracted from silica–surfactant hybrids by protons in the acidic condition were successfully photo-oxidized by TiO2. Thus, this study presents a new application of the conversion of a silica–surfactant hybrid into mesoporous silicas.

Résumé :
AbstractIn this paper we describe the preparation of fluorescent mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for traceable drug delivery systems. The nanoparticles were prepared following a sol–gel procedure, incorporating a modified perylenediimide dye in the silica structure. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy show that the nanoparticles are monodispersed, with a spheroid shape and a raspberry-type surface morphology. The hybrid MSNs are robust, maintaining the mesoporous structure after template removal, with a pore diameter above 2 nm. A polymer shell was synthesized from the external surface of the hybrid nanoparticles by atom transfer radical polymerization, showing temperature-switchable collapsed/expanded conformation control. The fluorescent properties of the perylenediimide dye incorporated in the MSN pore walls are intact, and internalization in HEK293 cells shows that the nanoparticles are efficiently dispersed in the cytosol. These results show that the mesoporous fluorescent hybrid nanoparticles are an excellent platform for development of a traceable drug delivery system.

Résumé :
The development of composite materials with functional additives proved to be an effective way to improve or supplement the required properties of polymers. Herein, mesoporous silica (SBA-15) with different pore sizes were used as functional additives to prepare SBA-15/PF (phenolic resin) nanocomposites, which were prepared by in situ polymerization and then, compression molding. The physical properties and structural parameters of SBA-15 with different pore sizes were characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The thermal properties of the SBA-15/PF hybrid were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The mechanical, friction, and dynamic mechanical properties of SBA-15/PF nanocomposites were also studied. The results revealed that the pore sizes of SBA-15 have a significant effect on the resulting SBA-15/PF hybrid and SBA-15/PF nanocomposites. The thermal stability of the SBA-15/PF hybrid was dramatically improved in comparison with pure PF. The friction and dynamic mechanical properties of the SBA-15/PF nanocomposites were enhanced significantly. Specifically, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the nanocomposite increased by 19.0 °C for the SBA-15/PF nanocomposites modified with SBA-15-3. In addition, the nanocomposite exhibited a more stable friction coefficient and a lower wear rate at a high temperature. The enhancement in thermal and frictional properties for the nanocomposites is ascribed to the confinement of the PF chains or chain segments in the mesopores channels.

Résumé :
Mesoporous silica nanoparticles with embedded magnetic particles and sizes around 80 nm were prepared. Curcumin loading in mesoporous silica was realized by a post-synthesis impregnation procedure. The loaded particles were additionally modified by surface coating with a phospholipid bilayer of a thickness of around 5 nm changing the surface charge of the carrier from negative to positive, which enables the efficient attachment to cells, increasing the probability of cellular uptake. The non-loaded, curcumin loaded and their surface-coated counterparts were characterized by XRD, N2 physisorption, thermal analysis, TEM, and ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. Release experiments were performed and demonstrated that the phospholipid coating contributed greatly a sustained drug release to be achieved. A comparative study on the antiproliferative effect of curcumin loaded into the mesoporous carrier and lipid-coated vs. free drug was performed on a panel of three human cell lines. On the basis of the obtained results, it can be concluded that obtained hybrid magnetic silica-lipid particles are promising carriers of curcumin.

Résumé :
Recently, lanthanide hybrid material has aroused great interest because of its wide range application in lighting material, bio-imaging, chemical/biological sensing and so on. Here, a binary lanthanide terbium/mesoporous silica hybrid material (Tb@MCM-41), and a ternary lanthanide terbium/mesoporous silica/polyurethane hybrid material (Tb@MCM-41@PU) are reported. Typically, the lanthanide Tb3+ ions were connected onto the surface of mesoporous MCM-41 via the molecular bridge built by the synergy of silane coupling agent (APTEOS) and chelating reagent (DTPA), and then the resulted Tb@MCM-41 was encapsulated into a commercial polymer matrix (PU) to form Tb@MCM-41@PU composite film. The sensing experiments conducted in solution had proven that Tb@MCM-41 has good selective sensing ability to the dopamine molecular. And further experiments also indicated the Tb@MCM-41@PU composite film can be used as a very convenient sensor tool towards dopamine.

Résumé :
Among a variety of inorganic-based nanomaterials, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have several attractive features for application as a delivery system, due to their high surface areas, large pore volumes, uniform and tunable pore sizes, high mechanical stability, and a great diversity of surface functionalization options. We developed novel hybrid MSNs composed of a mesoporous silica nanostructure core and a pH-responsive polymer shell. The polymer shell was prepared by RAFT polymerization of 2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate (pKa ~6.5), using a hybrid grafting approach. The hybrid nanoparticles have diameters of ca. 100 nm at pH < 6.5 and ca. 60 nm at pH > 6.5. An excellent control of cargo release is achieved by the combined effect of electrostatic interaction of the cargo with the charged silica and the extended cationic polymer chains at low pH, and the reduction of electrostatic attraction with a simultaneous collapse of the polymer chains to a globular conformation at higher pH. The system presents a very low (almost null) release rate at acidic pH values and a large release rate at basic pH, resulting from the squeezing-out effect of the coil-to-globule transition in the polymer shell.

Résumé :
This work reports the covalent attachment of three different calix[4]arenes (calix[4]arene (C4), p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene (C4S), and p-tert-butyl-calix[4]arene (PC4)) to MCM-41, using a three-step modification process. 3-Chloropropyltrimethoxysilane (ClPTS) was first attached to the mesoporous silica surface and subsequently converted to amides via the reaction with toluene diisocyanate (TDI). Finally, calix[4]arene derivatives attached to the isocyanate ending remained available on toluene di-iso-cyanate. Changes in the surface properties of the mesoporous silica caused by the chemical modification were monitored using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (TGA), and elemental analysis. The FTIR spectra and TGA analysis verify that the calix[4]arene derivatives are covalently attached to the mesoporous silica. The preservation of the MCM-41 channel system was checked by the X-ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption analysis. These materials were then used to evaluate the sorption properties of some organotins compounds (Tributyltin (TBT), Triphenyltin (TPT), and Dibutyltin (DBT)).

Résumé :
Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have been employed as a versatile solid support for constructing a variety of hybrid materials for controlled drug delivery. Controlled release systems that integrate external stimuli with nanocarriers have attracted much attention for sensors and drug delivery applications. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles grafted with thermo-sensitive polymers on the surface were fabricated via “grafting to” approach through chemical coupling reaction. The encapsulation and release of drug based on the thermo-sensitive nanogated system were investigated. The thermo-sensitive nanogated system can be expected as one of the promising candidates for drug delivery and controlled release.
