Résumé :
The purpose of this paper is both to provide mathematical reinforcements to the paper [Mecozzi and Bellini, Superluminal group velocity of neutrinos, arXiv: 1110.1253 [hep-ph]] by taking decoherence into consideration and to present some important related problems. We claim that neutrinos have superluminality as a latent possibility.

British Journal of Nutrition 95, no 3 (mars 2006) : 555–67. http://dx.doi.org/10.1079/bjn20051661.

Résumé :
The study objective was to estimate food and nutrient availability in Bolivian households using data from the nationally representative under the Programme for the household surveys undertaken yearly from 1999 to 2002 Improvement of Surveys and the Measurement of Living Conditions in Latin America and the Caribbean (MECOVI). In the present study, we analysed data from four repeated, cross-sectional surveys and applied European Data Food Networking (DAFNE) methodology for post-harmonising the data. Raw data of 19 483 households in Bolivia (3035 in 1999, 4857 in 2000, 5845 in 2001 and 5746 in 2002) were retrieved from the databases of the national household surveys. Results showed that the Bolivian diet is characterised by higher availability of foods of plant origin (cereals, fruits, potatoes and vegetables). Meat, milk and their products follow in the dietary preferences of Bolivians. Disparities in food availability within the country were also observed. Rural households systematically recorded lower amounts of food available, in comparison with the urban ones. Households of higher social status recorded higher availability values for all food groups, except for potatoes and cereals. Findings suggest that Bolivian households of lower socio-economic status prefer energy-dense and cheaper food sources. We concluded the dietary and socio-demographic data collected in the MECOVI household surveys could serve nutrition surveillance purposes. In addition, the application of DAFNE methodology for post-harmonising the data allows both national and international comparisons.

The Portrait of Noken as a manifestation of the Existence of Papuans is seen from the perspective of the socio-cultural aspect, Noken, as a manifestation of the indigenous Papuan representation in its mandate, is only vague but its meaning is very deep. Its meanings can be both denotative and connotative. For example, the Noken called mesin, as a medium of transporting various types of goods, has a denotative meaning. In addition, it also has a connotative meaning, namely a person who is open and likes giving whatever he/she has in his/her Noken. The next connotative meaning is as a mother who carries the burden of life or as it is usually called ifaj uk aromat mowran (a women carrying a lot of burden), starting from the period of menstruation, conceiving, giving birth and breastfeeding, which is identical to a Noken called mesin. Unlike the case of Noken, which is called mecoi, this kind of Noken has two kinds of meanings, namely denotatively as a means of transporting goods and connotatively as a person who is closed or stingy. Both mesin and mecoi are used for reducing the amount of garbage that has been wrapped around the life of the nation and the state.

Résumé :
Abstract. The historic MERIS (Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) sensor on board Envisat (Environmental Satellite, operation 2002–2012) provides valuable remote sensing data for the retrievals of summer sea ice in the Arctic. MERIS data together with the data of recently launched successor OLCI (Ocean and Land Colour Instrument) on board Sentinel 3A and 3B (2016 onwards) can be used to assess the long-term change of the Arctic summer sea ice. An important prerequisite to a high-quality remote sensing dataset is an accurate separation of cloudy and clear pixels to ensure lowest cloud contamination of the resulting product. The presence of 15 visible and near-infrared spectral channels of MERIS allows high-quality retrievals of sea ice albedo and melt pond fraction, but it makes cloud screening a challenge as snow, sea ice and clouds have similar optical features in the available spectral range of 412.5–900 nm. In this paper, we present a new cloud screening method MECOSI (MERIS Cloud Screening Over Sea Ice) for the retrievals of spectral albedo and melt pond fraction (MPF) from MERIS. The method utilizes all 15 MERIS channels, including the oxygen A absorption band. For the latter, a smile effect correction has been developed to ensure high-quality screening throughout the whole swath. A total of 3 years of reference cloud mask from AATSR (Advanced Along-Track Scanning Radiometer) (Istomina et al., 2010) have been used to train the Bayesian cloud screening for the available limited MERIS spectral range. Whiteness and brightness criteria as well as normalized difference thresholds have been used as well. The comparison of the developed cloud mask to the operational AATSR and MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) cloud masks shows a considerable improvement in the detection of clouds over snow and sea ice, with about 10 % false clear detections during May–July and less than 5 % false clear detections in the rest of the melting season. This seasonal behavior is expected as the sea ice surface is generally brighter and more challenging for cloud detection in the beginning of the melting season. The effect of the improved cloud screening on the MPF–albedo datasets is demonstrated on both temporal and spatial scales. In the absence of cloud contamination, the time sequence of MPFs displays a greater range of values throughout the whole summer. The daily maps of the MPF now show spatially uniform values without cloud artifacts, which were clearly visible in the previous version of the dataset. The developed cloud screening routine can be applied to address cloud contamination in remote sensing data over sea ice. The resulting cloud mask for the MERIS operating time, as well as the improved MPF–albedo datasets for the Arctic region, is available at https://www.seaice.uni-bremen.de/start/ (Istomina et al., 2017).

Résumé :
BackgroundSystemic sclerosis (SSc) is associated with increased risk of malignancy. Risk factors predisposing a SSc patient for development of malignancy are not well defined, and the pathogenic basis of the association is yet to be explained. Some autoantibodies have been associated with a close temporal relationship with cancer. The absence of malignancy screening guidelines tailored for SSc patients raise the importance of the need for more studies on the association of SSc and cancer.ObjectivesTo study the prevalence of cancer in SSc and the association between SSc-specific and SSc-associated autoantibodies and cancer in a third-level center.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cohort study by including patients diagnosed with SSc followed from 1980 to 2020 fulfilling the 2013 ACR/EULAR SSc criteria. Demographic features, clinical and immunological characteristics were retrieved. The primary outcome was cancer-associated SSc, defined as cancer occurring within 2, 3 and 5 years of first non-Raynaud SSc manifestation. The exposure was defined by the presence of SSc-specific/associated autoantibodies, including anti-centromere (ACA), topoisomerase I (Scl70), RNA polymerase III, fibrillarin, Th/To, PM-Scl, Ku, TIF1g, Ro52. Descriptive analysis was used to compare clinical characteristics of subjects with cancer to those without cancer. Univariate logistic regression was used to compare the odds of cancer-associated SSc between the autoantibody subgroups.ResultsOut of 103 SSc subjects, 27 (26%) had a history of cancer following SSc diagnosis. Mean age was 61.9 (57-69) years, 70% were female and 88% had a smoking history. Median time between cancer and disease onset was 6.33 (3-9) years. Among patients with cancer, 12 (44%), 8 (29%) and 7 (26%) were diagnosed within 2, 5 and 10 years of SSc onset. The most frequent types were breast cancer (n=9), gastrointestinal cancer (n=5), prostatic cancer (n=4), hematological (n=3) cancers, cervical/uterine cancers (n=2), non-melanoma skin (n=2), lung cancer (n=2). Patients with cancer were more likely to be Sc70+(OR 2.55, 95% CI1.03-6.3, p 0.04), anti-TIF1g (OR 19.5, 95% CI 5.6 – 68.3, p 0.001) and RNA pol III (OR 10.9 CI 95% 1.08-109.3, p 0.04), have a history of smoking (OR 7.24, 95% CI 2.6-197, p 0.001), myositis (OR 5.2 IC 95% 2.06-13.2, p 0.005) and older age at SSc onset (61.9 vs 57, p 0.04). Breast cancer was more frequent in anti-TIF1g (OR 3.75 IC 95% 1.8-17.5) and RNA pol-III (OR 7.14 IC 95% 1.56-90.8) subgroups. The risk of cancer-associated SSc was significantly increased among anti-TIF1g-positive subjects at 5 years after SSc onset (OR 2.1 CI 95% (1.45-9.94), p 0.04) and among RNA-pol III-positive subjects at 2 years after SSc onset (OR 3.5 95% CI (1.2-51.4), p 0.02) (Table 1).Table 1.Logistic regression analysis for the risk of cancer within 2,5 and 10 years of SSc onset according to antibody positivityOR 95% CI for cancer diagnosis within 2 years of SSc onsetOR 95% CI for cancer diagnosis within 5 years of SSc onsetOR 95% CI for cancer diagnosis within 10 years of SSc onsetAnti-Scl701.56 (0.51-44.5)1.41 (0.27-12.7)2.1 (0.55-13.4)Anti-centromere1.72 (0.62-52.1)1.52 (0.32-32.1)1.69 (0.14-21.3)Anti-TIF1g3.9 (0.35-43.4)2.1 (1.45-9.94)0.42 (0.04-5.32)ARN Pol III3.5 (1.2-51.4)1.9 (0.72-62.1)-Anti-PM Scl75/100--0.87 (0.04-1.98)Anti-Ro522.5 (0.66-66.8)2.0 (0.45-50.2)0.63 (0.05-7.74)ConclusionAnti-Scl70, anti-TIF1g and RNA pol III were predictive of cancer-associated SSc for cancers. Breast cancer was the most frequent. Subjects with cancer were more likely to have a history of smoking, myositis and an older age at SSc onset.

Background:Nucleic acid binding proteins are frequently targeted as autoantigens in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and other interferon (IFN)-linked rheumatic diseases. The AIM-like receptors (ALRs) are IFN-inducible innate sensors that form supramolecular assemblies along double-stranded (ds)DNA of various origins. Here, we investigate the ALR absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) as a novel autoantigen in SLE, with similar properties to the established ALR autoantigen interferon-inducible protein 16 (IFI16). We examined neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) as DNA scaffolds on which these antigens might interact in a pro-immune context.Methods:AIM2 autoantibodies were measured by immunoprecipitation in SLE and control subjects. Neutrophil extracellular traps were induced in control neutrophils and combined with purified ALR proteins in immunofluorescence and DNase protection assays. SLE renal tissues were examined for ALR-containing NETs by confocal microscopy.Results:AIM2 autoantibodies were detected in 41/131 (31.3%) SLE patients and 2/49 (4.1%) controls. Our SLE cohort revealed a frequent co-occurrence of anti-AIM2, anti-IFI16, and anti-DNA antibodies, and higher clinical measures of disease activity in patients positive for antibodies against these ALRs. We found that both ALRs bind NETs in vitro and in SLE renal tissues. We demonstrate that ALR binding causes NETs to resist degradation by DNase I, suggesting a mechanism whereby extracellular ALR-NET interactions may promote sustained IFN signaling. Conclusions:Our work suggests that extracellular ALRs bind NETs, leading to DNase resistant nucleoprotein fibers that are targeted as autoantigens in SLE.Funding:These studies were funded by NIH R01 DE12354 (AR), P30 AR070254, R01 GM 129342 (JS), K23AR075898 (CM), K08AR077100 (BA), the Jerome L.
