Résumé :
In this study the international trajectories of mature district evolution are investigated as a special case of institutional change, and a theoretical model for their evolution is proposed. This model is based on the idea that international growth and re-positioning represent the fundamental alternative to district sterilization and decline, in a framework where global markets provide the major pressure for change or decline but could also provide new opportunities for renewal. Alternative paths emerge from the combination of trigger events due to globalization and district leaders' behaviour: disembeddedness, re-embeddedness and multiple embeddedness are proposed here as the three main outcomes of mature district evolution. The latter constitutes a new construct introduced in this study in order to explore the possibility that districts relate themselves to global space creating similar systems abroad and/or establishing ties with existing systems, each one representing both a local network and a node of a global network.

Résumé :
This research aimed to explore the adaptive reuse pattern of the industrial heritage in the 798 Art District. It looks at how the relatively mature Cultural-creative industry links to urban regeneration activities, and what can be learnt from the redevelopment experience. In particular, it explores the role of the Cultural-creative industry and how it used the local industrial heritage to achieve the current layout and operation model of 798 art district. The adaptive reuse model of industrial heritage and the cultural–creative industry is assessed, the current issues and some targeted suggestions of 798 Art District are identified. During the historical evolution, the combination of the deserted urban land and the Cultural-creative industry worked as a successful redevelopment model. Although several studies have summarized of the development history of 798 Art District and its significant role in urban land and art markets, there has been little research on the role of creative class and industrial heritage in art districts and local tourism. This research will first provide literature review looking at the definition and development process of the Cultural-creative industry, the conservation and reuse of industrial heritage and the real-life cases of the reuse of industrial heritage in China. Then, the in-depth quantitative and qualitative methods are used to examine the development trajectory and characteristics of Beijing 798 Art District, the visitors’ tourist experience and the role of industrial heritage at the site. Ultimately, the discussion part will provide the comparison between 798 Art Districts with contemporaneous cases of industrial heritage reusing, and provide some recommendations to future development and operation.

Résumé :
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore how sustainability can become a source of competitive advantage for mature manufacturing sectors where technologies are standardized, and innovation is mainly generated across the value chain and not by individual companies.Design/methodology/approachFrom the methodological point of view, this research estimates the sustainability status of ceramic production in the Sassuolo district (Italy), using the Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) model, and changing the observation point for the analysis, from the enterprise (micro level) to the entire sector (meso level).FindingsThis paper provides an analysis of the environmental, economic and social impacts of the four main types of ceramic tiles manufactured in Italy, both in aggregate terms for the entire sector and per square meter of product.Practical implicationsThe methodological approach used in this research is easy to replicate both for companies when designing their sustainability strategies and for public decision makers when assessing the sustainability performance of a sector or supply chain.Social implicationsFor the first time, a socio-economic impact assessment is proposed for the ceramic sector, conducted in parallel with the environmental impact assessment through stakeholder mapping and prioritization.Originality/valueThis paper conceptualizes the theme of relations and interdependencies between ceramic producers organized in industrial districts and the territories in which they operate in order to determine empirically the sustainability performance of Italian ceramic sector, using the LCSA model with a territorial extension that presupposes an innovative contribution to current literature and practice.

Résumé :
31 are species of the MedicagoL. genus — alfalfa common in the Caucasus, 21 in Azerbaijan. 1 of them is cultivated, 7 are distributed directly in the Shirvan territory. As a result of the studies carried out in 10 cenopopulations in different phytocenological arrays, it was revealed that the M. caerulea species is characteristic of all CPs, and at the same time is effective. In terms of age indices and efficiency indices in 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 populations, individuals belonging to the juvenile and immature periods of ontogenesis mainly dominate (Δ=0.08–0.28; ω=0.21–0,54). In 8 and 9 fully mature populations, the spread rate of the species, as well as their indices, were high (Δ=0.39–0.55; ω=0.82–0.89). Only in 5 and 6 populations were no individuals found belonging to the senile (s) and subsenile (ss) periods, which is one of the signs confirming the constant development of plant populations. The largest reserve for the annual exploitation of the M. caerulea species falls on the Kura-Araz lowland and the Pirgulu massif of the Shamakhi district. Thus, from the results obtained, it can be concluded that the supply and use of the plant in natural resources as food can be carried out continuously.

Résumé :
About 50,000 plants are used for economic purposes, but only a small part has been introduced into the culture. The main method of obtaining vegetable raw materials is direct collection in places of natural growth of plants. Cultivation and industrial cultivation of wild plants will reduce the anthropogenic pressure on natural habitats. Oxycoccus palustris Pers. is a species that needs to be actively introduced into culture. Cranberries contain many biologically active substances. In natural habitats, a high polymorphism of plants is observed. In this regard, there is a need to select promising forms and evaluate their economically valuable traits of marsh cranberry. The aim of the study is to compare and evaluate the prospects for using samples of marsh cranberries with different berry shapes in the natural conditions of the Moscow region. The study was conducted on the basis of materials collected from the territory of a swamp located in the Domodedovo urban district of the Moscow region in 2020 and 2021. The plants had different berry shapes: round (typical), intermediate, and drop-shaped. Accounting and observations were carried out according to the standard methodology for setting up experiments with fruit crops. The analysis of experimental data was carried out by the method of single-factor analysis of variance. According to the results of the study, it turned out that the shape of the fruit affects the variability of the length, width, weight and number of developed seeds. Significant differences in the length, width, weight and number of mature seeds in samples with different fruit shapes were determined. The obtained results testify to the biological diversity of fruit forms in marsh cranberries (Oxycoccus palustris Pers.). It has been established that samples with a drop-shaped form are most original, which creates the prerequisites for the use of tear-shaped berries more widely due to their decorative effect and fewer seeds in the fruit. This work presents the developments of representing a part of the city districts of Manchester, UK and Turin, IT initiated within the FP7 DIMMER project completed in 2016 and continued in the last years by the Center of Excellence GIS of CSI Piemonte. The DIMMER system integrates BIM (building information modelling) and district level 3D models with real-time data from sensors and user feedback to analyze and correlate buildings utilization and provide real-time feedback about energy-related behaviors. The emerging standard 3D Tiles endorsed by the OGC was applied to represent CityGML data of two districts of Turin, Italy and Manchester, UK. 3D Tiles allows for a high level of detail (LOD) visualization that displays increasing detail of geometric features and their alphanumeric properties. Currently, the OGC 3D Tiles technology is mature, and the OGC CityGML specification will be soon updated to version three, with the adoption of exciting innovations like the support of time-dependent properties defined Dynamizers.

Résumé :
This chapter argues that the type and nature of human agency existing within cities and regions at particular points in their development are significant factors explaining the capacity of these places to achieve economic transformation and renewal. In particular, it seeks to set notions of entrepreneurial human agency within wider and emerging theories of regional economic renewal and transformation. It is suggested that, while the configuration and capability of economic ecosystems—which are conceptualized through notions such as clusters, innovation systems, and industrial districts—determine regional development outcomes, at the micro level it is the role played by certain key human agents within regions that actually shapes the nature and evolution of these ecosystems. In other words, human agency is considered to be a primary driver associated with economic development and transformation, and should be viewed seriously when addressing the routes available to economically mature and underdeveloped cities and regions in their bid to foster renewal and transformation.

Résumé :
Landscapes vary considerably in scale and kind. At one end are landscaped gardens and parks, carefully designed and maintained, at the other are wilderness areas of ice and snow, impenetrable forests, craggy mountains and valleys, raging rivers, or even landscapes on the moon or on Mars. In between are landscapes more or less the product of human activity, if not specifically designed as such: farmland, forest plantations, cultivated terraces for growing rice or tea, and urban landscapes with city parks, children’s playgrounds, skyscrapers, industrial zones, derelict buildings. If these landscapes belong in the real world of matter and time, never far behind have been human depictions of them, under the broadest category of landscape paintings or poems. Human fascination with landscapes, across time and cultures, has led to a repeated interplay between landscapes themselves, how they are perceived and valued, and representations of them. One example might be the growing popularity in the nineteenth century of tourism to remote countryside such as the Lake Distract in England, influenced by Romantic poets like William Wordsworth. Or the influence of the imaginary landscapes by the artists Claude Lorrain or Nicolas Poussin in the seventeenth century on English landscape garden design in the eighteenth century, including the creation in the latter of mock ruins and visually striking settings. Yet another might be the thought from Oscar Wilde that ‘nature imitates art’, by which he (partially) meant that once we get used to looking at, for example, Impressionist landscape paintings, perhaps by Claude Monet, we come to see the real thing as bearing an Impressionist appearance. Also, the common expression ‘picturesque’ applied to a landscape suggests that enjoying a landscape of a certain kind bears a strong similarity to enjoying a landscape painting representing that kind. Of course, the landscapes that attract painters or poets are not always of the benign picturesque kind. The term ‘sublime’ is used to describe both the rugged, dangerous, awe-inspiring landscapes of towering mountains and thundering waterfalls, but also dramatic, often Romantic, depictions of these, by the likes of the painter Caspar David Friedrich or the poets Percy Bysshe Shelley or Samuel Taylor Coleridge (see Sublime, the).

Résumé :
Abstract In order for students to enhance their understanding of engineering concepts, hands-on experience has proven to be essential. Incorporating the design component in undergraduate engineering education has been an immediate and pressing concern for educators, professional societies, industrial employers and agencies concerned with national productivity and competitiveness. While there are various ways of achieving that, one proven method is to have students working on projects and thinking about the learning objectives and tasks they are doing, a.k.a, experiential learning. There are several strong reasons to advocate the selection of experiential learning-based classroom teaching. An active learning-based approach can encompass both isolated and highly structured activities to motivate students to take charge of their deep learning. Active learning-based learning can also be very effective in creating personal connections between students and the course material, which strongly increases the student’s motivation to learn proactively. In addition to the course content, active learning-based learning develops life skills like improving subject mastery with others feedback, collaboration, and brainstorming to reach the most rational answers. Recently, advanced manufacturing technology has become increasingly appealing for a range of industries. however, it remains a challenge to infuse experiential learning experience in advanced manufacturing in undergraduate curriculum and to enhance undergraduate design and research experiences to meet both societal needs and the growing job-market demands. Here at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), the District of Columbia’s only public institution of higher education, and a historically black college and university (HBCU), it has recently modernized its undergraduate curricula in engineering with an undergraduate concentration in Advanced Manufacturing to meet that need. This paper presents a case study of implementing experiential learning through a series of collaborative Capstone Design projects that are collaboratively advised by project advisor and external subject-matter experts. Specifically, the subjects include Additive Manufacturing and Nanotechnology with applications in Energy, Manufacturing, Aerospace and many other fields. Further, this paper will also discuss and present the assessment data from the author’s experience and provide suggestions and lessons learned from this practice to help the broader community of engineering education.

Résumé :
Air pollution is the most serious environmental problem facing most industrial cities in the world and in China. The World Health Organization measured the concentration of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and total suspended particulate matter in 272 cities in 53 countries around the world, listing the ten most severely polluted cities in the world. The spatial and temporal distribu-tion of air pollutants depends on various factors such as the meteorological field, the source of emissions, the complex bottom surface of the site, the interplay of physical and chemical processes, and has strong non-linear characteristics [5]. Air quality forecasting is commonly used in the field of statistical forecasting methods, according to long-term monitoring data, the creation of a statisti-cal forecasting model, the model is simple, easy to operate business, but no solid physical founda-tion, and another numerical forecasting model based on atmospheric physics and material transfer model although the physical foundation is solid, comprehensive forecast results, but the forecast results are not reliable. Already in the 1950s, the system of meteorology of air pollution was gradu-ally formed, the box model, the Gaussian model, the Lagrange model, the Euler model, the dense gas model and other five types of models appeared. The first Gaussian model allows one to obtain a diffusion model of a local small-scale space and make predictions, then, based on the Gaussian model of the study, a modified model is obtained for other reliefs and weather conditions. There-fore, the modeling accuracy and applicable conditions are difficult to cope with the needs of large-scale complex meteorological conditions of air quality models.
