Résumé :
Group 3 metal clusters are synthesized by laser vaporization in a pulsed cluster beam source and identified with laser ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The adiabatic ionization energies and vibrational frequencies of these clusters are measured using mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy. Their structures and electronic states are determined by combining the MATI spectra with quantum chemical calculations and spectral simulations. This dissertation focuses on the study of several small molecules, which include LaO2, La2, M2O2, M3O4, M3C2, and La3C2O, where M = Sc, Y, and La. Except for La2, these molecules exhibit strong ionic characters between the metal and oxygen or carbon atoms and can be described as [O-][La2+][O-], [M2+]2[O2-]2, [M8/3+]3[O2-]4, [M2+]3[C3-]2, and [La8/3+]3[C3-]2[O2-]. The interactions between the metal atoms form covalent bonds, which can be described by a triple bond in La2, a two-center two electron bond in M2O2, a three-center one electron bond in M3O4, and a three-center three electron bond in M3C2. In addition, the electron in the non-bonding highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is localized in the La 6s orbital in LaO2 and La3C2O. The ground states of these molecules are all in low electron-spin states with the spin multiplicities of 1 or 2. Although the ground electronic state of LaO2 is a linear structure, the excited quartet state of the molecule is determined to be a bent structure. M2O2 and M3O4 have the planar rhombic and cage-like structures, respectively; whereas M3C2 has a trigonal bipyramid structure. La3C2O is formed by oxygen binding with two La atoms of La3C2. Ionization removes a metal-based (n+1)s electron in all neutral molecules, and the resultant ions have similar geometries to those of the corresponding neutral states. In the case of La2, additional ionization of a La 5d electron is also observed.

Résumé :
Metal-hydrocarbon complexes were prepared in a laser-vaporization molecular beam source and studied by single-photon zero electron kinetic energy (ZEKE) and mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy. The ionization energies and vibrational frequencies of the metal complexes were measured from the ZEKE and MATI spectra. Metal-ligand bonding and low-lying electronic states of the neutral and ionized complexes were analyzed by combining the spectroscopic measurements with quantum chemical calculations and spectral simulations. In this dissertation, the metal complexes of mesitylene, aniline, cyclooctatetraene, benzene, ethene, and propene were studied. For each complex, different effects from metal coordination have been identified. Although metal-bis(mesitylene) sandwich complexes may adopt eclipsed and staggered conformations, the group VI metal-bis(mesitylene) complexes are determined to be in the eclipsed form. In this form, rotational conformers with the methyl group dihedral angles of 0 and 60° are identified for the Cr complex, whereas the 0° rotamer is observed for the Mo and W species. The unsuccessful observation of the 60° rotamer for the Mo and W complexes is the result of its complete conversion to the 0° rotamer in both He and He/Ar carriers. For group III metal aniline complexes, the ZEKE spectrum of each complex exhibits a strong origin band, a short M+-aniline stretching progression, and several low-frequency ligand based vibrational modes. The intensities of most of the transitions can be explained by the Franck-Condon (FC) principle within the harmonic approximation. However, the intensity of the low frequency out-of-plane ring deformation mode is greatly overestimated by the FC calculations and may be caused by the anharmonic nature of the mode. Although aniline offers two possible binding modes for the metal atoms, a п binding mode is identified with the metal atom over the phenyl ring. For Ce, Pr, and Nd(cyclooctatetraene) complexes multiple band systems are observed. This is assigned to the ionization of several low-lying electronic states of the neutral complex. This observation is different from the Gd(cyclooctatetraene) complex, for which a single band system is observed. The presence of the multiple low-energy electronic states is caused by the splitting of the partially filled lanthanide 4f orbitals in the ligand field. The ZEKE spectrum of the Gd(benzene) complex exhibits a strong origin band, whereas the spectrum of Lu(benzene) displays a weak one. The benzene ring is planar in the Gd complex, but bent in the Lu complex. Dehydrogenation and C-C coupling products are observed in the reaction of La atom and ethene/propene. For the La and ethene reaction, La(C2H2) and La(C4H6) complexes are identified. With propene, C-H bond activation leads to the formation of the La(C3H4) and H-La(C3H5) complexes, whereas the C-C coupling yields the La(trimethylenemethane) complex. In addition, the La(CHCCH3) and La(CHCHCH2) isomers of La(C3H4) are observed, which are produced by the 1,2- and 1,3-hydrogen elimination of propene.

For at least 35 years, Argumento has become one of the best-known works of the Amazonian songbook by the name of Nao Mate a mata, since it received its first record in the Simple Compact LP Adelson (1980) and was played in the main Amazonian radios. Authored by the singer-songwriter, Adelson Santos, the work is recognized by artists and lovers of local music as a true ode to environmental conservation in the Amazon. The song reached social recognition only in 1980, positioning Adelson Santos as the most representative Amazon composer. The sociocultural context in which this artist began to reflect on the environmental problem through his music was marked by a series of important events for the consolidation of the Ecological Movement around the world. In its more than 40 years of creation, this musical piece has demonstrated its pioneering and timeless character, metamorphosing in arrangements from Boi-bumbá to instrumental jazz, re-readings performed by artists from different generations and different musical segments in the State of the Amazon. With the accomplishment of this study, we aim much more than to make just an inventory of the ecological songs of Adelson Santos, to analyze from the perspective of ethnomusicology and anthropology of the musical performance his most important work Argument, or simply to reconstruct configurative traits of his biography for prove its condition as an ecological subject. The radical critique of the environmental crisis contained in the work of Adelson Santos is seen by us as another possibility to reaffirm the position of centrality of Culture in the discussion on Sustainable Development worldwide in the post 2015. In seeking to establish an interface between the production of musical sounds, nature and sustainability, we are also creating a space for the valorization of multiple discourses and knowledge, as well as the many ecological subjects existing outside a naturalistic tradition, since Ecology, in present day, is assumed as a migrant idea, finding itself very close to social movements. In revealing these ecological subjects outside the areas of knowledge of naturalistic tradition, we want to provoke a discussion about the interdisciplinary and aggregating vocation of Environmental Sciences, as well as Music itself, based on the new theoretical orientation proposed by Ecomusicology and also of the already consolidated field of ethnomusicology. We promote a discussion of the ecology of knowledge and new perspectives for the reform of scientific thought and the deconstruction of the old models of technoscience that still prevent the existence of a reciprocity between the various forms of reproduce and know the world we live in.

Lanthanum (La)-promoted hydrocarbon activation reactions were carried out in a laser vaporization metal cluster beam source. Reaction products were identified by time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and the approximate ionization thresholds of La-hydrocarbon complexes were located with photoionization efficiency spectroscopy. The accurate ionization energies and vibrational frequencies of the La complexes were measured using mass analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy. Their molecular structures and electronic states were investigated by combing the MATI spectroscopic measurements with quantum chemical and Franck-Condon factor calculations. In this dissertation, La-mediated C-H and C-C bond activation reactions were investigated for several small alkynes (acetylene, propyne) and alkenes (propene, 1,3-butadiene, 1-butene). The C-H bond activation was observed for both alkynes and alkenes and the C-C bond activation for alkenes. The metal-hydrocarbon intermediates formed by the C-H or C-C bond cleavage reacted further with one or more parent hydrocarbon molecules to produce larger species by C-C bond coupling reactions. Structural isomers of the intermediates and products were identified within an energy range of several kilocalories per mole. Reaction pathways for the intermediate and product formations were studied by theoretical calculations. The ground electron configuration of La atom is 4d16s2.Upon the hydrocarbon coordination, La atom is excited to a 4d26s1 configuration to facilitate the formation of two La-C bonds. After the metal-hydrocarbon complex formation, only one electron is left in the 6s orbital of the metal center. Therefore, the most stable electronic state of the La complexes studied in this work is in a doublet spin state. Ionization of the doublet state yields a preferred singlet ion state. Although La is in the formal oxidation state of +2, the ionization energies of the metal-complexes are significantly lower than that of the free atom. This observation suggests that the concept of the formal oxidation state widely used in chemistry textbooks is not useful in predicting the change of the ionization energy of a metal atom upon ligation. Moreover, ionization has a very small effect on the geometry of the hydrocarbon fragment in each complex but significantly reduces the La-C distances as a result of an additional charge interaction.

Résumé :
Lanthanum-mediated bond activation reactions of small hydrocarbon molecules, including alkenes, alkynes, and alkadienes, were carried out in a laser vaporization metal cluster beam source. Time-of-flight mass spectrometry and mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectroscopy, in combination with quantum chemical and multi-dimensional Franck-Condon factor calculations, were utilized to identify the reaction products and investigate their geometries, electronic structures, and formation mechanisms. La-hydrocarbon association was only observed in the reaction of La with isoprene. C-H bond activation was observed in all reactions, hydrogen elimination was observed as the prominent reaction for the alkenes (2-butene, isobutene, 1-pentene, and 2-pentene), alkynes (1-butyne, 2-butyne, and 1-pentyne), and 1,4-pentadiene, and C-C bond activation was observed for the five-membered hydrocarbons (1-pentene, 2-pentene, 1-pentyne, isoprene, and 1,4-pentadiene). The La-hydrocarbon radicals formed in these reactions had lanthanacyclic structures in various sizes, and each of the La-hydrocarbon complexes had a doublet ground state with a 6s1 La-based electron configuration. Ionization removed the 6s electron, and the resultant ion was in a singlet state. Formations of dehydrogenated products were either through a concerted hydrogen elimination process or the dehydrogenation after ligand isomerization. The C-C bond activation proceeded through La-assisted hydrogen migration, followed by C-C bond cleavage, or vice versa.

Abstract: A floristic and phytosociological study was carried out in a galIery forest of the Paraguay river near Corumbá and Ladário - MS, Brazil. Structural aspects of the forest were correlated to the flooding of the river, and the dynamics and some caracteristics of dispersion of the species were evaluated. The floristic survey comprised an area of about 22 km along the river, between 18° 59' 51"S; 57°39' 17" W and 19° 01'12" S; 57° 26'44" W, including trees, shrubs and vines, inside the area of influence of the Lagoa Negra basin. The phytosociological survey was accomplished in an area between coordenates 19° 01 '16" S; 57° 27' 01"W and 19° 01' 12" S; 57° 26' 44"W. 106 contiguous 10x10m quadrats were established. AlI individuaIs with more than 15 cm PBH were surveyed. After two years the sampled individuaIs which had died were verified. The floristic survey totalIed 113 species, 39 families. Legurninosae was the most representative family, with 24 species; Bignoniaceae with 9; Convolvulaceae with 7; Arecaceae with 5; Apocynaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Myrtaceae, Malpighiaceae, Polygonaceae and Rubiaceae with 4 species each. Trees and shrubs occurred in the proportion of 59,73%, while the proportion of the vines was 30,93%. The study area presented a floristic composition characteristic of transition between amazonian forest and the wet environrnents of the "Chaco". In the phytosociological survey 716 individuals of 37 species and 29 families were sampled. The Shannon index (H') found for the species was 2,63 and this value is in accordance with the values found for sites with high flooding levels. The highest values of IV (Importance Value) was found for Inga vera ssp affinis, Triplaris gardneriana, Ocotea suaveolens, Crataeva tapia, Vochysia divergens, Cecropia pachystachya, Eugenia cf polystachya, Tabebuia heptaphylla, Myrcia cf mollis and Albizia polyantha, with a great advantage for Inga vera ssp affinis which showed values much higher than the other species in alI of the evaluated parameters. The study forest presented a canopy between 6 and 10 meters, sometimes reaching 13 m, with discontinuous understorey. Some individuaIs of Tabebuia heptaphylla, were found reaching 14m. It was observed that the species were distributed according to a topographicaI leveI, resulting from the flooding to which they were subjected. The more frequent species were grouped in: high places species (found in places which remained flooded a maximum of 10% of days); intermediate high places species (found flooded between 6 and 30% of days); intermediate low places species (found flooded between 10 and 48% of days) and low places species (found flooded between 30 and 48% of days). The total mortality index between the years 1994 and 1996 was 4,2%. For the individuals with a diameter higher than 15 cm, it was 3,56% and for those with diameters between 5 and 15 em, it was 4,6%. This elevated mortality index was associated to the exeptionally high flooding that happened in 1995. The study forest is a pioneer community that is in sucession apparently controlled by the levels of flooding. Twenty-eight of the 37 species found in the phytosociological study are apparently dispersed by animals, confirming a tendency to this kind of dispersion in regularly flooded evironrnents

Résumé :
Abstract In a charter school in the Southwest United States, elementary students were struggling to attain proficiency in math and have been failing to meet the standards in math on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards test. As a result, these students may not have been prepared for more advanced math courses as they continued their schooling, and this failure to attain proficiency in math may continue to impact the school's ability to make adequate yearly progress. The purpose of this explanatory case study was to explore the perspectives of elementary math teachers toward teaching math, their preparation to teach math, and the possible influences they may have on their students' math skills development. The theoretical framework was self-efficacy theory. Data were gathered through questionnaires completed by 5 participants teaching kindergarten through 5th grade and through the investigation of archival data of their students' achievement test scores. Emerging themes were coded to record and organize relevant information. The participants indicated that they did not feel prepared to teach elementary math when entering the classroom after their teacher preparation programs and that they want to gain more content knowledge and learn more strategies to teach math. Social change may occur as the elementary math teachers are given a voice concerning the teaching of math, and this voice could be used in producing staff development and improving instruction.

Résumé :
As a result of low student scores on math assessments and teachers' seeming inability to raise those scores, professional development (PD) interventions were developed to address teachers' knowledge and understanding of math instruction. The purpose of this case study was to gain a deeper understanding of teachers' experiences with the math staff development training and how those experiences influence their teaching and students' learning. Guided by constructivist theory, the key research questions addressed the math teachers' experiences with the math PD and what teachers perceive to be their needs for effective math PD. Data for this case study were collected through interviews and observations of 25 secondary math teachers at 3 high schools. The data were coded using an analytic method to discern themes and patterns. The findings indicated that PD should have a focus on strategies that are relevant, include team collaboration and time to observe demonstration lessons. As a result, a 3-day PD was designed to focus on specific course content taught by teachers, opportunities to observe lessons, and team collaboration to design lessons. This project study affects positive social change via a PD training program with consistent, pertinent and content-specific support for math teachers in the classroom. Teachers will be more engaged in the process, students will be more engaged in their learning, and the community will benefit from increased student success. Effective PD has the potential to improve teacher practice, thus student learning, enabling student success in school and beyond. Successful students make successful adults who live independent, constructive and fulfilled lives.

Kindergarten, first and second grade teachers play an important role in the development of a student's understanding of mathematics. Consequently, in order to improve student achievement in mathematics, it is important to investigate the relationships that may exist among primary teachers' math profile, math teaching efficacy, and math pedagogy and content knowledge. Participants completed an online survey that included the Math Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument (MTEBI) and Math Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) items. Participants provided math profile data through academic demographic questions.;Two-hundred seven respondents completed the survey. Analysis of the data included descriptive statistics, chi-square test of independence, and Spearman rho correlations. The descriptive statistics of this sample population indicated varied math professional learning experiences, reserved mathematic teaching efficacy and little expertise in the knowledge of third grade mathematics. Relationships between frequency of math professional learning and math teaching efficacy emerged as statistically significant and merit further investigation. Additional statistically significant relationships occurred between math content knowledge and math teaching efficacy. The strength of these relationships was moderate and warrant further investigation.

Résumé :
Arts-Across-the-Curriculum is gaining popularity in the field of education as arts programs are being cut from schools and teachers look for ways to incorporate art in their classroom. Most of these teachers have minimal formal arts training, but recognize the importance of introducing their students to various fine arts disciplines. These educators seek opportunities to learn new ways to bring arts to their students and may bring teaching artists into their classrooms to teach students or teachers. The clear connection between drama and the core subjects of history and literature allow teaching artists to easily create units utilizing both curriculum areas. Mathematics does not present clear connections to drama and the prevalence of mathematics anxiety, especially in the arts, prevents connections from being made. As an educator, theatre artist and lover of mathematics, Arts-Across-the-Curriculum provides me a opportunity to meld these together as a way to help young people find excitement in their education. Partnering with a fourth grade teacher, I developed a unit of lesson plans using playwriting as a way to understand word problems that was user-friendly for a teacher with no arts training. The Dramath Unit was integrated into the class as part of regular curriculum taught by the participating classroom teacher. Based on feedback from the participating teacher, I revised the unit for future use.

The scope of this thesis is to describe the military establishments at mari, an ancient kingdom located on the euphrate valley. The corpus of texts discovered in the royal palace covers around thirty years (1810?-1762). It includes royal correspondance and administratives documents. Chapter I is mainly concerned by the differents types of soldiers which composed the permanent army. Chapter II deals with the question of military grouping drawn from the services demanded by the king to his vassals and allies. Chapter III is about the organisation of the military establishment. A study of the military titles is presented. Very often the documents reveals that the army consisted of large forces made at disposal by levy. An analysis of this process is also proposed. Chapter IV offers a study of the weaponry. This study is based on a large scale of texts concerned by the manufacturing and distribution of weapons. Chapter V describes the elements of military tactics encountered in the mari texts (incursions, ambushes, maneuvers in the battle field etc. . . ) Chapter VI describes the siege devices and the defenses preparations

Résumé :
Researchers have shown a correlation between students’ math fact fluency and their achievement in higher-level math. The problem investigated by this study was that 59% of students in intermediate elementary grades at the local school were not proficient in math. Guided by Miller’s information processing theory, the purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to examine the influence of the Reflex Math Fact Fluency Program on 2nd graders’ math achievement scores (as a whole group and by gender) after 1 school year of program use. Archival data was purposefully sampled for 98 2nd grade students (n = 50 boys; n = 48 girls) who were continuously enrolled for the entire 2018-19 school year and completed both the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 Star Math Assessments prior to and following exposure to the Reflex Math Fact Fluency Program. Results of a repeated measures t test showed students’ scores after using the program for 1 school year were significantly higher than the same students’ scores before the program. Additionally, a mixed-design ANOVA revealed a significant interaction effect such that girls’ scores before the program were higher than the boys’ scores but were lower than the boys’ scores after the program. Findings suggest that the Reflex Math Fact Fluency Program can be a valuable tool for elementary level students, especially boys, who are learning basic math skills. Implications for positive social change include providing the school’s stakeholders with a policy recommendation that may influence students’ access to additional instructional opportunities in math which could, in turn, lead to improved student achievement in math over time.

Résumé :

Mathematics is an indispensable skill. Mathematical reasoning occurs when a person is taught the basic foundations during the elementary school years. With the pressures following implementation of Common Core State Standards and Race to the Top, school districts are tried not only to raise their state test scores, but also to prepare, strengthen, and empower educators to feel confident in their ability to instruct mathematics effectively. The Singapore approach to teaching math was the innovative program that created higher math scores in school districts in the United States. The country of Singapore, after developing this approach became the world’s leader in math scores. As more school districts attempt to use a Singapore math-type approach, the secrets of success for its implementation are important. Math in Focus is the authentic Singapore curriculum. This study attempted to document which aspects that encompassed implementing this new program worked most effectively by utilizing a mixed-method approach. This study documented and analyzed professional development training and collaborative teacher planning. The teachers in this study had five professional development workshops and met weekly for collaboration. Additionally, state testing scores were analyzed for the academic school years 2011–2012, 2012–2013, and 2013–2014.

This study deab with the relationship between the hispano-americans and the europeans based on the fascination that the culture, the way of life and the literary or philosophical patterns of west exert on the elite of the new continent. This can be partly explained by the desire to be integrated into the wide movement of progress and modernity which characterizes the last years of the nineteenth century. This behaviour induces the american intellectuals to consider their own culture as inferior and to take as an example the european culture, dominant at that time. This will provoque the critic of the cuban jose marti who aims at an intelligent imitation rather than at a blind dependence. For him, the imitation and the inspiration of the foreign patterns have to be limited and useful in order to result in an intelligent, productive assimilation leading to an absolutely hispano-american literature, an authentic creation which will make the independence of latin america felt

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The job of an entertainment rigger is to safely suspend objects (scenery, lights, sound equipment, platforms, and even performers) at very specific locations above the ground. The type, size and location of the structural members from which these objects must be suspended vary greatly from venue to venue. Additionally, the size, weight, and location of each object varies from object to object. To ensure that each object is safely suspended at the proper location, math is essential. Sometimes this math is very simple, and sometimes it can be complex. One reason catastrophic failures occur is because the load placed on a structural member or a piece of hardware exceeds the breaking strength of the structural member or piece of hardware. While a structural engineer must determine the strength of the structural members, and the manufacturers determine the strength of the hardware, the rigger is responsible for knowing the forces that will be exerted on each rigging point and piece of hardware. Because the forces placed on each rigging point and piece of hardware are determined not only by the weight of the object (its static load) but also HOW the rigging is done, entertainment riggers must be able to calculate these loads/forces. There are plenty of entertainment riggers who do not know how to do much math - but these are the people doing exactly what they are told to do, and not the ones figuring out what to do and doing the telling. If you want to be a top-notch rigger, you have to know math.

CAPES

Many students today lack preparedness for college-level math. Colleges and universities offer developmental math courses; however, students are failing these developmental courses and they often have low math self-efficacy. Educational technology and alternative classroom models are used to try to alleviate low success rates in developmental math courses. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between math self-efficacy and math achievement in students in developmental math courses that used the software platform Connect Math. Research questions focused on self-efficacy and math achievement differences between students in computer mediated and traditional lecture-based developmental math courses, as well as differences in their opinion of Connect Math. Guided by self-efficacy theory, a quasi-experimental study was conducted and data from students in traditional lecture-based (n = 81) and computer-mediated (n = 76) developmental math courses was analyzed. ANCOVA analysis revealed a significant relationship between age and math self-efficacy, p = .042 and a significant relationship between class type and student's perceived helpfulness of Connect Math, p = .005. Analysis also found a difference in GPA with computer-mediated students having a slightly higher GPA than traditional lecture-based students . Furthermore, results indicated instructor significantly predicted student opinion of Connect Math, p = .023. Results suggest that greater access to technology did not significantly predict greater success in the developmental math course. With higher completion rates of developmental math courses, colleges and universities could see greater graduation rates for all students.

Résumé :
There is a wide range of contemporary publications dealing with Maji Mai War in German East Africa (1905-1907) during which mor than 100000 people lost their lives as a consequence of brutal fighting, deliberate destruction and famine. Only three of these publications were written by Africans. The Swahili text reprinted here attests the view of Mzee bin Ramadhani, the headman (liwali) of Songea town, after colonial military had gained the upper hand in June 1906. It contains polemic statements against leaders and supporters of the Maji Maji movement and depicts aspects of mutual support of colonial officers and Swahili residents from a local perspective. His article as a whole presents the colonial regime as a non-interfering and supportive factor in regard to the Swahili Diaspora. Thus it is reasonable to assume that in his eyes succesful Swahili men were at least equal in many respects (e.g. linguistic competence, social experience, religious conviction) rather than inferior according to colonial understanding.

Résumé :
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between time spent on a computer managed integrated learning system entitled Accelerated Math and traditional mathematics instruction on achievement as measured by standardized achievement tests of elementary school students. The variables of ability level, special education, grade, socioeconomic status, gender, classroom teacher, school attended, and degree of implementation were also considered. The population consisted of 542 students who were sixth, seventh, and eighth graders during the 2003-2004 school year and took the TerraNova each year. Data were gathered that covered the three-year period beginning in 2001 and ending in 2004. A t test for independent samples, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used to identify the relationship between variables. The researcher’s investigation of the relationship between Accelerated Math use and mathematics achievement might assist educators in planning for use of technology as a supplement to traditional instruction. The information gathered from this research might be beneficial to other school systems seeking information on the relationship between a computermanaged integrated learning system and math achievement. The findings in this study were mixed. The use of Accelerated Math was associated with no effects and negative effects depending on the degree of implementation. The findings indicated that there were measurable differences in the performance of students who received Accelerated Math compared to students who did not receive Accelerated Math. Students who did not receive Accelerated Math had higher overall scores than students participating in the intervention. The study indicated that gender, special education, and ability groups did not have a significant interaction with the intervention (participation in Accelerated Math). The research revealed that there was a socioeconomic status interaction intervention with proficiency scores. The study revealed that there was a significant intervention interaction with school, teacher, and grade. There was a significant interaction intervention for both proficiency and value-added scores for each of these three independent variables. In addition, the research revealed that the degree of implementation was a significant factor in students' achievement.

Introduction. The excess of body fat is associated with the development of chronic non-communicable diseases. Physical exercise enhance lipolysis. The mobilization of fatty acids (FA) is the first stage for the use of lipids as a source of energy by skeletal muscle. In order to increase the use of FA, substances have been used. Objective. This work compared the effects of caffeine, coffee and maté tea on the performance, metabolic parameters and lipolysis in response to acute physical exercise on a treadmill, in Wistar rats. Methods. The study was developed in stage 1 (exercise until exhaustion, n=15) and stage 2 (exercise lasting for 60 minutes, n=45). The design consisted of groups: control (C), control exercise (CE), caffeine exercise (CFNE), coffee exercise (CAFE) and maté tea exercise (CME). For stage 1, the performance, the differences in the total body mass and glucose (post- versus pre-exercise), and lipolytic activity were compared. For the stage 2, comparisons were made among the differences in the total body mass and glucose (post- versus pre-exercise), lipolytic activity, blood lactate level and muscular glycogen content. The data were presented as average ± standard error. The data were analyzed by means of general linear models and the deltas by the orthogonal contrasts technique. Pearsons linear correlation was used to check the association between the variables of interest. Results. In stage 1, no differences were observed between the groups in terms of performance. The post-exercise total body mass, when compared to the pre-exercise, decreased for the CE (188 per cent ), CFNE (273 per cent ), CAFE (319 per cent ) e CME (204 per cent ) groups, when compared to C. There was no difference for glucose (post- versus pre-exercise) between groups. An increase of 92 per cent in lipolysis was observed in the CAFE group, when compared to C. In stage 2, there was a decrease in the post-exercise total body mass, when compared with pre-exercise, in the CE and CFNE (263 per cent ), CAFE (230 per cent ) and CME (183 per cent ) groups. An increase in post-exercise glucose, in comparison with the pre-exercise, was observed in groups CFNE (343 per cent and 220 per cent , when compared to C and CE, respectively) and CME (179 per cent ), when compared to C. Lipolysis increased for the CFNE and CAFE groups when compared to groups C (150 per cent and 233 per cent , respectively) and CE (51 per cent and 101 per cent , respectively). No significant differences were observed between the groups for the blood lactate and the muscular glycogen levels. It wasn\'t observed correlation between the different variables, for stage 1 and 2. Conclusion. Following exercise until exhaustion, the group which ingested coffee presented an increase in the lipolytic activity. After exercise lasting 60 minutes, the group which ingested caffeine, as well as that which ingested maté tea, presented increased levels of glucose. The animals which ingested caffeine or coffee presented increased levels of lipolysis
