Résumé :
Media, the fourth pillar of democracy, is one of the institutions, systems and resources created by the society to fulfill its various needs. Today, as a security guard of democracy, media has reached its reach not only in the country but across the world. In this era of information technology, mass communication has an important contribution in the society. Whatever the limitations of the early forms of communication, the rapid development of communication media has been closely related to the development of modern human society. In the last few years, the revolutionary changes in the procedures of mass communication due to scientific progress have completely changed the human life-style. From Parliament to the streets, all ideological wars are being fought today through the mass media. Before independence, the media awakened the light of patriotism and resistance to British rule among the common people. After independence, this medium of consciousness emerged from new knowledge and science and called upon the common people to protect their rights and duties.

Résumé :
For a number of reasons over the last five to ten years we have seen a shift in politics, moving away from the centre towards the extreme edges. Many people have been dragged along with this, as many of the mass media outlets are highlighting and fuelling this polarisation. At the same time the power of the cities is increasing, and here it seems still to be possible to gather much broader support for ‘national’ interest projects in relation to digital infrastructure, sustainability and smart city platforms for interconnected LED street lighting, waste and water management, smart parking and other applications. What however, is often still missing is a holistic approach towards the development of smart cities; this needs to be led from the top and to be supported by a ‘smart council’. A major stumbling block towards the development of a smart city is the many silos within a city, resisting the sharing of infrastructure and other relevant assets, resisting open data and open government. There are however, good examples both nationally and internationally of councils that are moving in the right direction.

Résumé :
The mass media in the form of advertising is extensively employed in the process of nation-building in Malaysia. Advertising has been used as an important tool for educating the public about State issues, ensuring diverse cultures are equally represented and the multicultural values are emphasized to the fullest. The objective of the present study is to investigate how outdoor advertising, particularly billboards, promotes the language, social identity, and multicultural values of Malaysian society for nation-building. In Malaysia, the extensive use of advertisements has been argued as one of the most powerful mechanisms to enhance Malaysian identity, foster interactions and thus contribute to the process of nation-building even though it is portrayed in a banal and routine way. To achieve its objective, this paper utilizes semiotic methodology to examine 11 billboards to understand the relationships between texts and visuals that communicate messages to the public. The findings revealed that the billboards do not only communicate pro-social messages, but also reflect the language, social identity and multicultural values of Malaysian society towards nation-building. This study expands the work of outdoor advertising within the Malaysian society and contributes to Semiotic Analysis by examining textual-visual elements of billboards.

Résumé :
IntroductionAn ingenious combination of the latest video, computer, and satellitetechnologies has brought about an unprecedented telecommunicationrevolution. This phenomenal progress, and the resultant power it gives oneperson over millions of others (and one nation over many others), hasapparently generated myriad opportunities for humanity. Williams (1982, 195-9)states: “Just as the international political order up to the 19th century washighly influenced by control of sea lanes, and in the 20th century by airplaneand missile capabilities, so too may we expect international politics to betied to control of the powerful new worldwide communication networks(already in place). Those who control the networks could control the world.”Whether or not humanity utilizes these tools for its betterment dependsupon the beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviors of those who control themedia. Humanity’s record so far in this respect is decidedly mixed. The content of communication is the communicator’s ideas, whichinfluence the cognitive (conceptual/perceptual) , affective (attitudinal), andconative (behavioral) aspects of an audience’s life. It is therefore necessaryto formulate valid methods and techniques of looking into various uses andthe impact of mass communication media on society.Ideological Background of the Modern Use of Mass MediaMedia analysis has existed since the first nonverbal communicationbetween humans, as has mass communication (i.e., public spealung and publicannouncements). Abstract The use of history textbooks in order to instill particular images of the nation and national identity has been widely recognized, with a proliferation of studies focused on the problematic content in textbooks. Yet, history textbooks rely on a range of other media like maps, graphs, illustrated timelines, and photographs, which also play an important role in visually signposting the nation. While some of these images serve primarily as a form of representation aligned with the text itself, other aspects of visual content distinctly and autonomously construct national identity. In this piece, relying on qualitative visual analysis, we point to the function played by images in symbolically constructing the nation in contemporary primary school textbooks in five post-Yugoslav republics, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.

Résumé :
Mass media exercise extra-ordinary influence on the state and citizenry of every country and the ability of media to facilitate man’s behavioural change through its agenda- setting role makes them central in the re-branding process. The implication became that those politicians who champion the re-branding process tried to win the citizenry’s legitimacy through the media. This paper shows that the major challenges of the re-branding project include the inability of the Nigerian political leadership to re-brand themselves, corruption in every sphere of our national life, national insecurity, advance fee fraud, collapse of the education sector, poverty. It revealed that peace is a multi-dimensional term, which creates new environment for progressive nation building process. The rebranding project finally failed when the protagonist minister went to contest for senatorial election and his successor refused to step into her re-branding project shoes. This work called for the rise of a new government and media that would engage in ethical politics through sound leaders, priming, peace building, ethical education, etc as the roadmap to sustainable peace, security and national re-branding. The paper concluded by showing that it is only a national re-branding that is championed by the masses which can lead the citizenry to the desired goals of being a real Giant of Africa.

The interrelationschip of culture, nation and communication is one of the key themes in the study of collective identities and nationalism. In this opening article to this special issue this interrelationship is being assessed. The article aims to contribute to a discussion ofthe assumptions on which the above interrelationship is built. It is argued that nationhood is at the point of intersection with a plurality of discourses related to geography, history, culture, polities, ideology, ethnicity, religion, matriality, economics, and the social. The discourse of nationhood can best be understood in relation to boundedness, continuities and discontinuities, unnity and plurality, the authority of the past, and the imperative of the present.Contributions of a number of contemporary thinkers (Benedict Anderson, Wimal Dissanayake, Ernest Gellner, Sutart Hall, Eric Hosbawm, anthony Giddens, among others) are incorporated in this article in order to underline the complex and contested discursive terrain that nationhood undoubtedly is. It is concluded that various cultures also manifest different and fragmented identities.

Résumé :
Awareness of the importance of harmony between religions, ethnicities, races, and cultures must always be realized through an understanding of national integration. One of the barriers to this is ethnocentrism, cultural acculturation, and the media, both mass media and new media. Indonesia is one of the countries that are prone to experiencing resistance as a result of excessive fanaticism so if this is allowed to pass, it will have an impact on the integrity of the nation so that national disintegration can emerge. This is what we try to analyze in this paper, the problem of national disintegration is studied through three reviews, namely ethnocentrism, cultural acculturation, and the role of the mass media. The method used in writing this article is a qualitative approach, related to subjective social reality and uses non-participant observation or refers to literature studies. When we talk about ethnocentrism, of course, it is indirectly related to the interactions that are carried out by one person to another individual, individual to the group, or group to group. This interaction can occur with the help of communication. Whatever the form and context of communication, it always displays climate differences between communicators and communicants. Ethnocentrism is widely positioned as oil or fire that can devour people and objects around it. Likewise, ethnocentrism can be a trigger for disharmony and continuous conflict because when interacting both personally with personal, personal with groups and groups against other groups, they always understand and appreciate the superiority of their culture over other cultures. Ethnocentrism is the habit of each group to regard the culture of their group as the best culture.

Based on the content analysis of “non-ethnic” mass media in the federal subjects of Russia in the North Caucasus, the attempt to determine the place of ethnicity in the information field of the region and the influence of these sources on the processes of politicization/depoliticization of ethnicity is made in the paper. It was revealed that the topic “historical memory” is the leading one in ethnically marked publications. The next places in the thematic classi-fier are occupied by “ethnic identity” and “ethnic traditions and values”. Along with this, the dis-course of modernization turned out to be in de-mand, which indicates that the North Caucasus is in a situation of search for an optimal balance between old and new, traditions and innovations. Only one case of the use of the concept of “nation” as a syn-onym for the Russian (“Rossiyan”) nation has been identified, however, references to the nation in the ethnic sense are extremely rare. It is concluded that the “non-ethnic” media of the North Caucasus keep ethnic and confessional issues within public dis-course, but it is not “superfluous”, i. e. the tendency to politicize ethnicity is not typical or explicit.

The current issue of information access for different nations within one state is examined. The media of Quebec, the only francophone province of Canada, give us a clear example. However, Russian scholars almost disregard this domain. Therefore, the research is based on the Canadian works (M. Brunet, A. Beaulieu and J. Hamelin, W.H. Kesterton) in French and in English. The Royal Commission on Newspapers Report (1981), which described two separate media systems (French media and English media), was used as well. The focus is on the Franco-Canadian national problem and its influence on Quebec media historic evolution. This process moves from bilingual editions (two first newspapers were published in French and in English simultaneously) to modern monolingual media system. Through comparative analysis, the relationship between media bilingualism and media monolingualism in Quebec of 18-21st centuries is examined. Quebecs modern information politics can be defined as media regionalism (French language and specific Quebec content). Media regionalisms object is to resist federal doctrine one country - one nation with two languages, the base of Official Language Act (1969). As a result, the absence of traditional federal official media bilingualism in Quebec, which tries to save its national heritage by media regionalism, was discovered.

Claims regarding the power of the mass media in contemporary politics are much more frequent than research actually analysing the influence of mass media on politics. Building upon the notion of issue ownership, this article argues that the capacity of the mass media to influence the respective agendas of political parties is conditioned upon the interests of the political parties. Media attention to an issue generates attention from political parties when the issue is one that political parties have an interest in politicizing in the first place. The argument of the article is supported in a time-series study of mass media influence on the opposition parties’ agenda in Denmark over a twenty-year period.

So far, Indonesia has never been able to escape from the entanglement of corruption. This fact requires all elements of the nation to participate actively in combating this social scourge. Given that Indonesia is a democratic state, where the people are the holder of supreme power, the people have an important role in uncovering and combating the problem of corruption. One of the role and participation of the public is through the media. The reason is because the mass media can reach all levels of society. The mass media is a strategic tool that is able to sniff out and dismantle the rotten practices that start emerging or still veiled. The fact proves that in various places in Indonesia and abroad, corruption is always associated with the mass media.

Résumé :
Security issues in Nigeria have of recent attracted global attention. The country now faces security threats from insurgent groups and bandits including the unknown gunmen that operate in broad day light almost unhindered. These have resulted to massive loss of lives and properties with devastating effects on the economy of the country and freedom of movement. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the challenges posed by the unfolding threats from these enemies of the nation building and how the mass media in Nigeria could help in saving the country from this mess. The study employed literature review method and anchored on the Democratic Peace Theory. The review reveals that Nigerians depend so much on mass media for accurate and timely information about the happenings in the society; the traditional roles of the mass media in any society which are to inform, educate and entertain are so crucial that Nigeria can hardly progress meaningfully without these channels of mass communication; that although the mass media are faced with a lot of challenges in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria, they have significant influence in fighting the menace; the media have not been fully utilised in addressing the security challenges in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study recommends among others that the government should adopt dialogue and communication based approach in addressing security problems facing the country instead of relying solely on the use of force and stiff measures; Journalists in the media industry should utilise the mass media as agents of social change, and in spite of all odds redouble their efforts in setting agenda for public discussion on the best ways to salvage the country from the quagmire of insecurity; government officials and other relevant authorities should periodically organise media security summit for members of the public to contribute their quota on how to achieve attitudinal change and secure the country from collapse, security agents should work with intelligent information to avoid being victims of insecurity.

Background:Mass media campaigns are a necessary tool for public health practitioners to reach large populations and promote healthy behaviors. Most health scholars have concluded that mass media can significantly influence the health behaviors of populations; however the effects of such campaigns are typically modest and may require significant resources. A recent Community Preventive Services Task Force review on stand-alone mass media campaigns concluded there was insufficient evidence to determine their effectiveness in increasing physical activity, partly due to mixed methods and modest and inconsistent effects on levels of physical activity. Methods:A secondary analysis was performed on the campaigns evaluated in the Task Force review to determine use of campaign-building principles, channels, and levels of awareness and their impact on campaign outcomes. Each study was analyzed by 2 reviewers for inclusion of campaign building principles. Results:Campaigns that included 5 or more campaign principles were more likely to be successful in achieving physical activity outcomes. Conclusion:Campaign success is more likely if the campaign building principles (formative research, audience segmentation, message design, channel placement, process evaluation, and theory-based) are used as part of campaign design and planning.

There is an ongoing debate in Kazakhstani mass media over what constitutes proper Islamic belief and conduct. This paper examines a running dispute between Zikiriya Zhandarbek, an intellectual based at a university in southern Kazakhstan, and scripturalist Islamic institutions, such as the Kazakhstani Muftiate and the Islamic television channel Asyl Arna. In his tirades against “Salafist” and “untraditional” members of the Muftiate and Asyl Arna, Zhandarbek uses rhetoric inviting identification with domestic traditions and Akhmed Yasawi, a local Sufi saint. Conversely, scripturalists’ rhetoric identifies them as scholars working to revive knowledge of the Qur’an and Islam. However, both parties claim to represent the Kazakh nation, showing the overwhelming importance of nationalist rhetoric in Kazakhstan today.

This article uses Central Asian examples to challenge theories of ethnic nationalism that locate its origins in intellectual activism (Hroch), state modernization processes (Gellner), or the rise of mass media (Anderson). Modern Uyghur cultural politics and traditional Central Asian dynastic genealogies reveal related processes used in constructing modern nationalist symbols and pre-modern ideologies of descent. Modern territorial states with ideals of social unification and bureaucratic organization rely upon nationalist discourses to elaborate and rework cultural forms into evidence for the ethnic nation. The state links citizens to institutions through nationalist content used in political discourse, schooling, and public performances. Because such content is presented as authentic but used instrumentally, its contingency and fabrication have to be concealed from view: the culturally intimate spaces of bureaucratic production of culture and narratives are separated from public performances. The creation of genealogies used to legitimate pre-modern states are similar: compositional processes and goals are kept offstage, and little is disclosed in the public historical narratives and performances.

The history of Islamic dynamics in Indonesia has been widely seen through educational instruments, trade routes, and networks of tarekat scholars. Still few see the mass media as a motion instrument. In fact, growing Islamic thoughts and movements in a place, also possible occurred on the insiprasi elsewhere through the mass media. The character of mass media capable of arousing the public subconscious has been used by Muslim scholars to jointly build a line against colonialism and liberate the nation. The mass media of colonialism became a means of struggle. Wahana conveyed his aspirations to the government and also played a role in educating the community. Unlike now, where the mass media has become a larger industry, in the past, the print media media in particular became the foundation of the actual information rides for the intellectuals who have not put forward the industry side

The study on “Mass Media and Ideology Dissemination against Democracy in Thailand” is qualitative study with the method of documentary research from text books, books, newspapers and online newspapers to find the definition of democracy which was the system of forming the elected government with the principle of sovereignty, majority, equality, freedom and laws. However, some mass media had false consciousness of democracy which included: election brought bad quality politicians; recruitment of persons to form the government was better than election; promotion of superstition; one man one vote was not for Thai society; capitalism deteriorated the nation; The Armed Forces worked for the people. Another concept was the idea that believed Thai society was praising the elite groups. The ideology said the society should obey the senior citizen who had morals, and the Armed Forces forced people to obey.

Résumé :
The discussion on the relation of Islamic symbols and the analysis of religious multiculturality in people's lives is a theme that is often highlighted. Even more attention will be paid when a description of this is presented along with the presence of the mass media in carrying out their activities. The media as part of the study is very impressive to study its participation in the analysis of Islamic symbols and forming religious multiculturality in society. The existence of the media to fulfill daily life definitely gives a different direction to the way of thinking that will be carried out by the community itself. The media is still used as an inseparable material with the existence of communication in the world of Islamic symbols. Therefore, communication can be used as the most important basis in fulfilling the discussion of Islamic symbols in people's daily lives. This fact is also balanced with the growth of mass media that is happening at this time in accommodating every dynamic of the growth of the world of da'wah. The media also has many impacts on people's lives, but it must be able to make the existence of communication media as an interest that cannot be separated from the people, because mass media is a very powerful form of communication media used at this time to introduce any information to the public. we have. With a note that the information we convey is useful information for many people. The media that exist today are a very effective choice for disseminating information quickly and precisely considering the rapid era of globalization today. The very influential role of the mass media is one of the causes of the importance of the media as a marker of character and behavior as well as people's experiences. That's why so many people try to use mass media as a means of propaganda for the ideals, ideas, values and norms that the people themselves want to create. It depends on what kind of mass media manager itself can be wise when implementing the role of mass media in real terms. Then viewed from the side of the condition of the Indonesian people, which consists of many tribes and cultures as well as other diversity, the media must be able to manage this diversity into something that is valuable to the nation and is also the strength of the nation itself.

Résumé :
Fragile states are conditioned by the politics of interests, which oscillates between social, ethnic, factional, political and economic agitations. The politics of interest impairs shared identity and creates a tense coexistence between already fragmented communities. Ethiopia presents an example of the erosion of democratic norms despite the constitutionally imposed politics of ethnically and regionally based societies. Fragile states defy theoretical wisdom, as the media and elections might, in certain circumstances, produce negative results by creating a fractured society rather than resolving the legitimacy crisis. This article analysed academic literature and reflected on theories of the media in democracy to deconstruct the role of the legacy and new media in radical polarisation and nation-building in Ethiopia. Furthermore, illustrations were drawn from incidents and developments to clarify conditions that can help the mass media refrain from actions that deliberately or inadvertently impede socio-economic growth and worsen political conditions in fragile democracies. This article asserts that without context adaptation, the liberal norms of media autonomy and political inclusion might be incompatible with other forms of democracy beyond affluent democracies. It concludes by proposing theoretical visions of a ‘democratic mirror’, ‘vigilantism and fraternisation’ and the ‘therapeutic’ function of the media in fragile democracies.

Building relationships with the media is very important for public relations practitioners. Their success in carrying out PR tasks in order to reach the attention of audiences is largely determined by their understanding of strategies for building relations with the media as well as the intelligence and tactics of public relations practitioners in building relationships with media. Good relations with the mass media are built using the right communication strategy, namely the method used for smooth communication between public relations and the mass media. The good relations referred to here are good relations with media institutions and between public relations and journalists. A good relationship with the mass media is very important for public relations. Like an army going out to battle, he needs understanding and mastery of war strategy. Likewise with public relations practitioners, for the success of publicity, also requires understanding and mastery of strategies to build relationships with the media

Résumé :
The United States (US) is usually thought of as a nation representing freedom, democracy and human rights. However, as shown by Noam Chomsky and a few others, the US has turned out to be the most dominant imperialist nation as it is a ‘super power’ with immense political and economic clout. The US has been involved in human rights’ violations, Chomsky claims, with an intention of capturing markets for its goods and services, but has been successful in veiling it by shaping popular consciousness through its hegemony over popular media. Chomsky argues that the US has been preparing the ground for human rights’ violations by the use of ‘Propaganda Model’ which ‘filters’ reality in such a way as to give the ‘news’ that is perverted to serve the needs of the ruling elite. For instance, in many of the ‘news’ reports the weapons of mass destruction used by the US are attributed human traits while the citizens of the enemy nation are presented as nameless “aggressors” or “terrorists”. The relevance of the paper rests on working out the implications of Chomsky’s perspectives on the use of media by the US to serve its propagandist model and the implications of such tendencies to nations like India. The paper also tries to work out the possible way out of this impasse. Keywords: Culture of terrorism, human rights, media, propaganda model, US imperialism

Résumé :
Terrorism is the enemy of humanity, nation and state in Indonesia. The rapid change and revolution in the world of technology, information, and communication is believed to be the biggest cause of the growth and development of terrorist ideologies. The majority of the mass and digital media on the other hand stand in the lap of capitalists who take advantage of the news of world terrorism, like a symbiosis of mutualism. The research focuses on the phenomenon of the relationship between mass and digital media and terrorism, as well as reading the steps of the Indonesian government in minimizing the spread of information and negative content of terrorism targeting the younger generation in Indonesia through social media. This research is a qualitative model with a content analysis approach and research data is obtained from various mass and digital media platforms, books, and reputable journals. The research concludes that the Indonesian government needs public cooperation, including mass and digital media, in an effort to minimize the spread of ideology and acts of terrorism in the digital realm. The notion of terrorism has infiltrated the younger generation through social media, so digital media literacy is considered a powerful weapon for the government to fight negative narratives targeting the millennial generation for the purpose of the ideological nation, recruitment, and acts of terror by terrorist organizations. In addition, it is necessary to create positive and soothing content as a resistance to transnational movements that differ in vision and mission from the ideology of the Indonesian state and society simultaneously and massively.

Mass media have crucial roles in propogating information in society. News published through mass media, both the positive and the negative ones will be so highly accessible to public that they influence the way society thinks. If the published information is true and honest, it will result in positive impacts. On the other hand, if the published information is untrue, dishonest, and it instigates hatred, it will negative impacts and it can even trigger conflicts amongst society members. For those reasons, according to John Hohenberg, news in mass media must al all times prioritize the factors of actuality, honesty, and education. To carry out those functions, it is not an overstatement to say that mass media are said to uphold noble duties playing big roles in educating the nation.

This study explored whether radio had an impact on the indigenous peoples or Bihug of Camarines Norte, Philippines in developing their concept of nation. Descriptive and exploratory research designs were used. Through a multi-level approach, the intensive qualitative component of the research procedure was addressed, the construction of the indigenous peoples’ concept of nation through radio listening. Thematic analysis was used to process the data gathered. The study employed Anderson’s theory on imagined communities as a social construction and Crisell’s characteristics of radio. Radio in the community of the indigenous peoples did not appear to play a primary role in the construction of their concept of nation; rather their actual encounters with people in various activities, their knowledge of places, the recognition given to their benefactors and stories from ancestors which helped in the realization of the extent of their assimilation with the lowlanders, their being Filipino, and their membership of a minority group were the main contributory factors. Although radio was not the main source, it contributed to the formation of their concept of nation as events, places, sense of belongingness, and benefactors. This study, which dealt with the role of radio in the formation of the indigenous peoples’ concept of nation in Camarines Norte, Philippines also considered other factors which may influence the construction of a concept of nation aside from radio like other mass media, and their social encounters with members of NGOs, other agencies and institutions, barangay officials and the constituents of the community where they stay.

Marshall McLuhan’s work in communication theory has drawn our attention to the fact that mass media, beyond transmitting knowledge, also shape our thinking. The same effect can be assumed for the way we think about our communities. Indeed, mass media have played and still play a crucial role in the birth and maintenance of historical large groups. Not only because our knowledge of the nation is fundamentally derived from the mass media, but also because these media have created a new language in which inter-group relations are inherently encoded. Media logic, not just the author, has a crucial role to play in shaping the representation of collective memory in history textbooks. As the most influential medium of mass communication, the textbook reconstructs and transmits the pattern of representation of national identity for future generations. In this way, identity becomes a message. The paper demonstrates this process through the example of the textbook transmission of a national trauma.

Résumé :
Balinese language as the mother tongue of the Balinese people is inherited and used until now. As part of the cultural treasures, the existence of the Balinese language is very important to be preserved. The Provincial Government of Bali, as the highest policy holder in the region, has also issued various legal regulations, both in the form of regional regulations and governor regulations in preserving the Balinese language. Policies from the local government certainly require support from all components of Balinese society as supporters and users of the Balinese language. In addition to the efforts carried out by the local government, the mass media in Bali have also long played a role in preserving the Balinese language, one of which is by including Balinese language rubrics in the mass media published, either in daily, weekly or monthly editions. However, the contribution of the Balinese-language mass media is felt to have received less attention from the public, including the government, so that its existence is fluctuating. Therefore, it is important to conduct a study on how the development, existence and also the supporting or inhibiting factors of maintaining the Balinese language through the Balinese language mass media. When viewed from its development, the mass media in Balinese language has been developing for a long time. The Balinese language mass media is still effective in conveying information to the public, because most Balinese people are still active in using the Balinese language. Factors supporting the existence of Balinese-language mass media in Bali include, among others, the support of the Bali provincial government in preserving the Balinese language and literature in the form of regulations in the form of governorates and local regulations; the idealism of the owners or managers of Balinese-language mass media in Bali; the development of Balinese language communities; there are universities that open Balinese language departments. The inhibiting factors for the existence of Balinese-language mass media in Bali include very little interest in writing by the Balinese; the Balinese language is only a spoken language, not a written language; the world of literature is very minimal; operating costs

Résumé :
Objective. This research aims at defining the principles of constructing effective narratives with the use of the strategic communication capabilities and the media. Materials and Methods. Publications in modern English and Ukrainian mass-media have been analyzed using methods and techniques of discourse analysis, content- and intent-analysis with elements of pragmatic and narrative analysis. The author’s methodology included the following: to identify the author’s intention and motives, the main topoi and points of the narrative focalization, to define hidden beliefs, social and psychological basis for the recipient’s perception of the narrative, to outline effective strategies for the narrative construction and dissemination in the media. Results. In general, modern media have the capacity of constructing the desired frames in the audience’s consciousness by creating a mental model of the situation, on which the consumer of the information starts to rely. Decision-making now is reliant on the media consciousness, a virtual world imposed by the media and constructed with the help of relevant narratives. Modern strategic narratives usually have the external focalization which gets more credibility when supported and presented by the focalization points of celebrities and experts. Competing narratives, as well as the plurality of possible interpretations of events, are destroyed with the help of the media, which begin to broadcast one interpretation of the event that matches the narrative, by this making it the truth. Simultaneous use of several different media intensifies the influence and support the narrative. Repeating information changes its status and makes it not just a fact, but general knowledge. Any narrative is not only a sequential story of the selected events, but also persuasion in its nature. Persuasion is enhanced when narratives resonate with the audience's value system. Conclusions. As a strategic communication tool, an effective narrative is constructed with regard to all the aspects of communication, psycholinguistic and social aspects being especially important. Further insights into the problem of shaping narratives will allow outlining best practices and their elements to develop image-forming narratives.

Résumé :
Exploitation of women now comes in new faces; through the mass media. Media currently has a dual role, like two sides of a coin, on one side the media serves as a mediator for the improvement and progress of the nation, on the other side contributes to the suppression of media for the benefit of market capitalism toward consumer culture women once again being the subject of image construction. Expansion of the market and the mass media can not be separated from the flow of consumerism, because the mass media (particularly advertising on television) is an extension of the market to boost sales of industrial products in the form of imagery that originates from the "mode of production". Through the process of meaning people are affected by the image created by the market and advertisement that increase their consumptive behavior. Here begins the role of advertising in blurring the identity as the supporting tool of consumerism, therefore those who identify themselves as modern men are no longer themselves but apparently no more than "Robot Man" impersonator without original identity, the principle of life pawned in the name of modernity. Women are vying to look beautiful, to buy up all whitening products, hair straightener tools, body slimming drugs, making them "Paranoid" who are restless because being haunted by old age. Actually they are aware of the exploitation, but enjoy it on the pretext of style and fashion.Key words: women, exploitation, mass media

Résumé :
For the past two years, the `MegaLab UK' initiative has carried out huge participatory science demonstrations on national television, radio and in newspapers. This paper outlines the methods and results of two MegaLab experiments. The first of these examined whether the public were better able to detect lies on television, on the radio or in the press. A second experiment examined whether first or last impressions were more important in an interview broadcast on television and printed in a national newspaper. These demonstrations helped to communicate the basic building blocks of experimental design and conveyed the feeling of excitement associated with the scientific enterprise. In addition, scientists can rarely carry out experiments with such large cross-sections of the populations and actual media, so the results have real scientific value.
