The article presents the complicated story of a script, originally titled “ID Card”, was written in mid-1948 by Adam Ważyk. Had the script been approved for production, it would have been one of the first Polish post-war feature films. However, this did not happen. Apart from Adam Ważyk, Aleksander Ford, Jan Fethke and Ludwik Starski also worked on subsequent versions of the script. Due to complex political circumstances, none of the versions presented was approved by decision-makers. The author presents subsequent versions of the script which change along with social and political changes in Poland. The last version entitled “False Papers”, written by Ludwik Starski in 1968, contains clear elements of an action film. However, this was not a good time for this type of production. Over a period of 20 years, the script of “False Papers” underwent a peculiar metamorphosis: from a political pamphlet, to a didactic story, and finally, an action film with an unexplained mystery and war in the background. None of these versions became a film.

Jezuita ks. Ludwik Grzebień był studentem, a następnie asystentem naukowym ks. prof. Stanisława Librowskiego. Ich współpraca rozpoczęła się w 1968 r., kiedy opublikowane zostały prace naukowe ks. L. Grzebienia. W tym samym roku podjął studia w Instytucie Historii Kościoła, uczęszczając na seminariom ks. S. Librowskiego. W 1970 r. ks. L. Grzebień przedstawił pracę magisterską pt. Biblioteka biskupa Hieronima Rozrażewskiego (1542-1600). Już po roku od uzyskania magisterium (1971) złożył dysertację pt. Organizacja bibliotek jezuickich w Polsce od XVI do XVIII wieku. Obydwie parce naukowe uzyskały bardzo dobre oceny recenzentów. Po obronie doktoratu w 1972 r. ks. S. Librowski zaproponował ks. L. Grzebieniowi pracę asystenta naukowego w Katedrze Nauk Pomocniczych Historii i Metodologii Historii. W czasie pracy naukowo-badawczej w KUL odznaczył się dużą pracowitością naukową. W roku akademickim 1972/1973 opublikował pięć artykułów naukowych. W sierpniu 1973 r. ks. L. Grzebień wyjechał do Anglii na kurs językowy, kwerendy archiwalne oraz w celu odbycia kolejnego etapu formacji zakonnej. Z pobytu tego nie wrócił do pracy w KUL, poświęcając się realizacji swoich planów naukowych związanych jednak z zakonem jezuitów.

Objawione imię Boga Ehjeh-Jhwh „Jestem-On jest” oznacza Jego zbawczą, wyzwalającą obecność w całej historii Jego ludu, zarówno w sytuacji, gdy potrzebujący zbawienia są ofiarami zła (Wj 2,23nn.), jak i wówczas, gdy są oni jego sprawcami(Wj 31,18nn.). Wobec ofiar zła imię Boga nabiera na początku charakteru obietnicy wyzwolenia, aby następnie, docelowo, stać się imieniem spełnienia obietnicy wyzwolenia, imieniem przymierza gwarantującego zachowanie podarowanej wolności(Wj 19,1 – 31,17). W sytuacji grzechu natomiast, w sytuacji zerwania przymierza i zagrożenia utraty uzyskanej wolności, Bóg nie wycofuje swojego imienia z historii swego ludu, lecz wobec sprawców zła staje się ono obietnicą nowej obecności Boga,obecności miłosiernej. Opracowanie jest próbą odczytania teologicznego znaczenia objawienia imienia Boga, stanowiącego istotny element obietnicy wyzwolenia danej przez Jhwh.

Nazywanie Kościoła „nowym Izraelem” jest fundamentalne dla całej współczesnej eklezjologii. Określenie to wyraża z jednej strony ciągłość dwóch wspólnot duchowych, a z drugiej, istotną nowość, wynikającą z pojawienia się Mesjasza. Ciągłość i nieciągłość tak ukształtowanej historii zbawienia spontanicznie prowadzi do pytania o sposób realizacji zbawczego zamysłu Boga. Jeżeli Bóg pragnie zbawienia wszystkich ludzi, to czy z konieczności realizuje się ono w dwóch różnych grupach stanowiących jeden lud Boży? Odpowiedź kryje się w wykazaniu, że elementy konstytuujące lud Izraela uwidaczniają się następnie w Kościele.

The present paper aims at describing systematically the theory of thought-styles and thought-collectives of Polish microbiologist, Ludwik Fleck. The paper describes its starting point: case study of so-called Wasserman test. In what follows, Fleck’s theory is presented at first in the light of Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn. Some similarities between the two thinkers are pointed out (e. g. use of incommensurability concept, reference to gestalt psychology, theory-ladenness of observation, view on scientific literature). Yet Fleck’s views differs from Kuhn’s in some important respects (e. g. views on stabilisation, absence of counterpart of scientific revolutions in Fleck’s theory). Contrary to the prevailing view, these differences preclude consideration of Fleck as a forerunner of Kuhn. For this reason, the present paper mentions also possibility of presentation of Fleck’s views in another context which is deemed more helpful: French epistemology (e. g. Canguilhem, Hacking).

AbstractAfter observations on Studies of Culture (Kulturwissenschaften) in relation to their theoretical foundation and their subjects in the last decades, the functioning (style in the sense of Ludwik Fleck) of ‚Kulturwissenschaft‘ will be examined not systematically but exemplarily in four fields: (i) the functions of the so-called liberal and applied arts in the last 250 years, (ii) constellations of subjectivity in industrial society in the nineteenth century, (iii) the relation between security and risk in the present time and (iv) the relation of culture and religion in the polycentric, post-religious, but also post-Enlightenment world. Considerations on the prospects of a historic ‚Kulturwissenschaft‘ in relation to Anglo-American trends follow this course.

En prise constante sur l’actualité de la vie villageoise, des instances administratives régionales, des discours politiques et militants qui s’affrontent sur les médias nationaux, le ludruk, théâtre populaire de Java Est, démontre une capacité générique à corriger, réviser, rénover sans cesse ses contenus ludiques comme si sa survie en dépendait. De telles initiatives, potentiellement transgressives des discours dominants, ont depuis l’indépendance du pays, et auparavant durant l’occupation néerlandaise puis japonaise, convaincu les autorités des champs politiques et religieux d’imposer une surveillance étroite des artistes et organisateurs de spectacles. L’armée indonésienne, notamment pendant la période de l’Orde Baru de Suharto, a pris le contrôle de la plupart des troupes circulant à Java Est. À l’heure de la Reformasi, ce fut au ministère de l’Éducation et de la Culture d’engager un vaste programme de standardisation d’un théâtre trop protéiforme dans ses inspirations, ses trouvailles scéniques et ses scénarios sommaires livrés à l’improvisation des acteurs. Mais le ludruk dispose de manière latente d’une possibilité dissidente, celle des incartades de l’humour et de la dérision qui le définisse intrinsèquement. Le ludruk, dont l’inventivité faite de bric et de broc conserve le cadre épuré du théâtre de cour, aligne toujours les figures fondamentales de la « chanteuse-danseuse transgenre » (tandhak) et du « clown à la langue déliée » (badut), tous deux porteurs des dissonances entre les idéaux sociaux et politiques et les réalités de la vie ordinaire
Constantly in touch with the current events of village life, regional administrative bodies, political and militant discourses that clash on the national media, ludruk, a popular theater of East Java, demonstrates a generic capacity in correcting, revising, and renewing its playful content as if its survival depended on it. Such initiatives, potentially transgressive of the dominant discourses, have since the country’s independence, and before that during the Dutch and then Japanese occupation, convinced the authorities in the political and religious fields to impose close surveillance of artists and show organizers. The Indonesian army, especially during the period of Suharto’s Orde Baru, took control of most of the troupes circulating in East Java. At the time of the Reformasi, it was the Ministry of Education and Culture, to engage a vast program of standardization of a theater too protean in its inspirations, its scenic finds and its sketchy scenarios left to the improvisation of actors. But the ludruk has in a latent way a dissident possibility, that of the breakthrough of humor and derision which defines it intrinsically. The ludruk, whose inventiveness made of bits and pieces preserves the purified framework of the court theater, always aligns the fundamental figures of the “transgender singer-dancer” (tandhak) and of the “clown with a sharp tongue” (badut), both carriers of the dissonance between social and political ideals and the realities of ordinary life

The enlightenment period is often considered a dark age within the history of medicine. Contrary to this sentiment, I argue that the enlightenment spirit of inquiry regarding venereal disease was vibrant, dynamic, and profoundly influenced how syphilis was understood in the subsequent century. Historiography frequently minimises advances of medical knowledge made in the eighteenth century by focusing on the inefficacy of treatments, rather than on developments in medical theories and concepts. This thesis attends to this gap by examining a case study within venereology to demonstrate that physicians engaging in public debate significantly advanced knowledge of syphilis. In doing so, this counters a historiographical trend that claims that French physician Philippe Ricord (1800-1889) was the first to distinguish syphilis from gonorrhoea in the nineteenth century. It uses historical evidence to show that the nature of syphilis was debated throughout the preceding centuries and that this distinction was clearly established in 1793 by Scottish surgeon, Benjamin Bell (1749-1806). This thesis uses the epistemic concepts devised by Ludwik Fleck in his Genesis and Development of a Scientific Fact (1979 [1935]) to illustrate how enlightenment ways of thinking substantially contributed to the development of modern medicine. This thesis therefore invites a reconsideration of the era, not as a dark age, but as a rich period of scientific endeavour.

Einleitung: Ein Eingriff, der in der heutigen Zeit sehr häufig angewandt wird, gleichzeitig aber Thema einer kontroversen wissenschaftlichen Debatte ist, ist die Episiotomie. Methode: Dieser Untersuchung liegt eine qualitative Analyse von 39 Dissertationen im Fach Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe zu Grunde, die im Zeitraum zwischen 1885 und 1996 an deutschen Hochschulen und Universitäten zum Thema Episiotomie veröffentlicht wurden. Die Doktorarbeiten wurden anhand eines Fragerasters untersucht und die Ergebnisse in Tabellenformaten zusammengefasst. Ergebnisse: Es ist festzustellen, dass eine Entwicklung weg von den Indikationen "Missverhältnis" und "Prophylaxe des Dammrisses" hin zu sehr zahlreichen und verschiedenartigen Indikationen stattgefunden hat. Details der Schnittführung werden ab 1927 so intensiv und breit diskutiert, dass dieser Punkt bis in die heutige Zeit als der Diskussionspunkt um die Episiotomie überhaupt gelten kann. Diskussion: Die Diskussion und Interpretation der Ergebnisse erfolgte nach den von Fleck postulierten Annahmen von Denkstilen, Denkkollektiven und systemimmanenten Fragestellungen der Forschenden. Ausgehend davon wurde der Untersuchungszeitraum in drei Abschnitte unterschiedlicher wissenschaftlicher Prägung unterteilt. Schlussfolgerung: Die Forschungsgegenstände, Forschungsergebnisse und auch die Interpretationen sind zeitabhängig. Eine jede Arbeit muss im Kontext ihrer Entstehungsgeschichte betrachtet werden. Somit ist jeder Forschende in zweierlei Hinsicht ein Abhängiger: Er produziert die Wissenslandschaft seiner Zeit, aber er reproduziert sie auch.
Introduction: The episiotomy is an operation applied frequently, at present, and at the same time it is a topic of a scientific controversy. Methods: This treatise is based on a qualitative analysis of 39 doctoral thesisses of obstetrics and gynocology published in the period between 1885 and 1996 at German universities und medical academies concerning the topic of episiotomy. The thesisses are analyzed by means of a pattern of questions. The results are summarized in tables. Results: The described indications change from "disproportion" and "prophylaxis of the rupture" to various indications. Details of the direction of the cut are discussed intensivly and widly, since 1927. Nowadays this is the most important point of discussion in the community. Discussion: The discussion and interpretation of the results is based on Ludwik Fleck´s postulates of thought styles, thought communities and system inherent questions of the scientists. Proceeding from this theory the mentioned period is divorsed in three phases of different scientific characters. Conclusion: The objects, results and interpretation of research depend on the scientific period. Every treatise has to be considered in the context of its genesis. Every scientist creates and reproduces the knowlegde and the ideas of his time.

Med hjälp av Ludwik Flecks vetenskapssociologiska tankar, jämte ett antal andra perspektiv på polulärvetenskapens form och funktion, resonerar jag om populariseringarnas folkbildande och stundtals politiska syften och sätt att presentera en omstridd teori som ovedersägligen sann. Uppsatsen innehåller också en översikt över populärvetenskapens historia i Europa och Sverige.

A pesquisa na área de Ensino de Ciências tem indicado que o ensino de Física na Educação Básica deve ser acompanhado de discussões acerca da natureza da ciência (NdC). Pesquisas apontam, no entanto, que essa inserção não tem ocorrido de maneira satisfatória, mesmo quando os docentes detêm visões epistemológicas alinhadas às visões contemporâneas. Neste contexto, a presente investigação objetivou compreender, através de estudos de caso etnográficos, as práticas didáticas de futuros professores de Física na disciplina de Estágio Supervisionado, ao final do curso de Licenciatura. Investigamos como um grupo de licenciandos se apropriou de conhecimentos de História e Epistemologia da Ciência e em que medida integrou e fez efetivo uso (ou não) desses conhecimentos em suas aulas de regência na escola, bem como os desafios e dificuldades enfrentadas. Para tal, realizamos imersão em sala de aula na disciplina de Estágio durante os semestres de 2015/2 e 2016/1, fizemos entrevistas em profundidade e utilizamos a Teoria Fundamentada em Dados (de Strauss e Corbin) para análise qualitativa dos dados coletados. As ideias de Ludwick Fleck serviram-nos de referencial teórico-epistemológico, auxiliando-nos a compreender as interações desse coletivo de pensamento com outros coletivos (dentro e fora da universidade). Observamos ou uso, ou não, da História e Filosofia da Ciência (HFC) pelos licenciandos para trabalhar elementos da NdC em sala de aula. Os resultados mostraram que os estagiários, na sua grande maioria, não conseguiram utilizar de maneira satisfatória os conhecimentos epistemológicos e históricos no decorrer da disciplina de Estágio Supervisionado. Em geral, eles apontaram ter dificuldade de empregar/operacionalizar na prática didática esses conhecimentos, e demonstraram pouco aprofundamento principalmente de aspectos epistemológicos. Contudo, suas falas indicam que eles percebem a possibilidade e importância de inserir elementos históricos e filosóficos da ciência nas aulas. Os estudantes reconhecem o uso de elementos históricos e epistemológicos como alternativa aos “moldes tradicionais” de aulas de Física. Eles também avaliam positivamente o uso dos microepisódios de ensino, inseridos nas disciplinas de Estágio Supervisionado e História da Física e Epistemologia. Concluímos que precisa ser dada uma atenção especial aos conhecimentos epistemológicos durante a formação inicial, maior do que os de História da Ciência, e que algumas estratégias diversificadas podem contribuir para que os futuros professores se sintam mais confortáveis e seguros para promover essas discussões.
Research in Science Education point out the importance to include discussions about nature of science (NOS) in physics classes on elementary and secondary education. However, researches point out this insertion has not occurred satisfactorily, even when teachers hold contemporary epistemological views. In this context, the present research aimed to understand, through ethnographical case studies, the didactic practices of pre-service Physics teachers in a Supervised Internship discipline, in the end of a physics’ teacher training course. We investigate how a group of undergraduate students appropriate knowledge from History and Epistemology of Science, and we also investigate the extent it was integrate and used (or not) in their classes at school, and challenges and difficulties they faced were considered as well. To do this we immerse in supervised internship during 2015/2 and 2016/1 semesters, we conducted in-depth interviews, and use Grounded Theory (of Strauss and Corbin) to qualitative analysis of the data collected. Ludwick Fleck's ideas served as a theoretical-epistemological reference, helping us to understand interactions of this thought collective with other collectives (inside and outside the university). We observed the use, or not, of History and Philosophy of Science (HPS) by pre-service teachers to teach NOS elements in the classroom. The results show that mostly of the trainees were unable to use epistemological and historical knowledge in satisfactory way during the Supervised Internship. In general, they pointed out to have difficulties to implement this knowledge in didactic practices, they also showed little deepening of epistemological aspects. However, their statements indicate that they realize the possibility and importance to include historical and philosophical elements of science in the classes. The students recognize the usage of historical and epistemological elements as alternative to traditional patterns of teaching physics. They evaluate positively the usage of teaching microepisodes, inserted in both disciplines of Supervised Internship and History Of Physics and Epistemology. We conclude that special attention needs to be paid to epistemological knowledge during teachers’ training courses, even bigger than History of Science. To use diversified strategies may contribute to making pre-service teachers feel more comfortable and secure promoting these discussions.

Jitka Nešporová doctoral thesis ABSTRACT The doctoral thesis focuses on the translation persona and work of Ludvík Kundera. A poet himself, he translated verse first and foremost and was able to do so from many languages, although he sometimes resorted to the use of interlinear translations. The research, however, concentrates primarily on the description, analysis and reception of his direct translations in the Czech - German language pair, which was predominant in Kundera's translation work. The thesis contributes to the understanding of the history of Czech literary translation after 1945 by describing Kundera's translation method, making accessible part of his literary estate, notably his correspondence, and providing an update to Kundera's translation bibliography. Kundera is best known as the exclusive, authorized translator of Bertolt Brecht's drama and poetry. His translations of Expressionists Georg Trakl and Gottfried Benn, for which he received the State Award for Literary Translation in 1996, are considered canonical today. The same holds true for his translations of Paul Celan's poetry and Alfred Kubin's novel Die andere Seite (The Other Side). Kundera was also the first to introduce Czech readers to the poetry of Alsatian Dadaist Hans Arp and the poetry of East German lyricist Peter Huchel....

The aim of the thesis: to capture the life of the Czech social democratic politician and former mayor of Pilsen, Luděk Pik, with a specific focus on his political activities in the city. This thesis also aims to understand and clarify Pik's relation to Pilsen and the relevance to his life, as well as his essential role in the history of this West Bohemian metropolis. Luděk Pik (18. 5. 1876 Prague - 19. 4. 1948 Pilsen) lived in Pilsen for almost five decades of his life (1901-1948), except the period during the Nazi occupation (1939- 1945). Since 1901 he worked in Pilsen for the Czechoslavonic Social Democratic Workers Party, where he quickly became the local party elite. At the end of the World War I he participated in the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak state. In 1919-1938 he served continuously as mayor of the city of Pilsen and significantly contributed to its modernization and development. He also sat in Cisleithanian and Czechoslovakian legislatures. After the Munich Treaty he was forced to stand down from his political status and was persecuted during the Nazi occupation. The post-war situation prevented his return to a public life. The search for origins of the republican aedileship presents a difficult task. At first sight the story about foundation and evolution of this magistracy lies in ancient sources. On the closer look it may be discerned, that the same sources have their own present intentions. They search for a tradition in oral based history to legitimise the current status of the aedileship and present it in historical context. Yet another question raises ambiguity. The twin character of the magistracy blurs our perceptions and makes it challenging to distinguish whether plebeian and curule aedileships are evolving intertwined or apart of each other. Nevertheless, delving upon the wide variety of ancient sources it is still possible to reconstruct the basic functions and duties of the aediles. Furthermore, the aedileship has to be looked upon in broader picture, in order to figure out, how it is situated in the system of republican magistracies and why the roman aristocrats strived to serve as aediles. The main purpose of this paper is to bring the aedileship out of the shadows and present it as full pledged research topic. Lenka Mundevová Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation Abstract The dissertation compares the stylization of the dialogues in the French original of Maupassant's short story Ivrogne (The Drunkard), written in 1884, with five Czech translations published between 1902 and 1997. The comparative analysis is focused on the devices of colloquial language, including dialect, which appear frequently in the dialogues of the story and prove to be extraordinarily useful when interpreting Maupassant's text. The analysis of the excerpted material is preceded by the description of the basic characteristics of colloquial French and Czech, followed by the description of their stratifications. The mutual relation of the colloquial language varieties is an important prerequisite for the evaluation of the translations of colloquial language devices and their appropriateness in the individual Czech versions of Ivrogne. The paper also deals with the development of Czech aesthetic translation standards and their relation to the standard of local fiction, outlining the important tendencies of Czech fiction translation applied when colloquial devices were conveyed from French to Czech during the specified timeframe. This chapter focuses on the foundations of the study of Polish Jewish history in the second half of the nineteenth-century. It argues that modern interest in Jewish history in Poland emerged at a time of acute political crisis, as members of the Polish elite studied the rise of Poland as a regional power in the early modern period and its subsequent collapse at the end of the eighteenth century. The chapter examines the emergence of scholarly writing on the history of Jews in the Polish lands and the ideas that drove the development of this new field. It tracks the ways in which non-Jewish Polish writers such as Tadeusz Czacki, Wacław Aleksander Maciejowski, and Władysław Smoleński engaged with the subject of the Jewish past in the Polish lands. The chapter demonstrates how their programmes, questions, and biases spurred Polish Jewish authors, such as Aleksander Kraushar and Ludwik Gumplowicz, to bring a historical dimension to their public discussions about the place of the Jews in the Polish lands and to their agenda for recasting Jewish relations with the surrounding society.

The Ludus Danielis, a spiritual game in the Latin language from the late 12th century, is not only a stroke of luck from the point of view of music history, but also from the point of view of media theory. Completely preserved and thoroughly composed through, it represents the possibility of systematically analysing questions such as the specific relationship between the media involved – text and music or melody. Translations inevitably come into view: from text to melody and vice versa. With the help of the monophonic solo song “Surge frater” from the Ludus Danielis, this essay will examine the translation processes in terms of Pierce’s sign types. At issue will be the exercise to carry out a categorical trace-back of text and melody (space, time, movement). A condition for this seems to be a specific semantic momentum of its own in both media, which, in the case of the formation of coherent statements by the interpreter, reveals itself as interference with increasing performative potentials.

W okresie jej działalności (lata 1945–1989) zostało zorganizowanych 9 zjazdów (wśród nich pierwszy w 1951 r., nazwany kongresem, i jeden nadzwyczajny w 1981 r., tuż przed ogłoszeniem stanu wojennego). Zjazdy Ligi oceniały minione kadencje oraz podejmowały uchwały wyznaczające kierunki dalszej działalności. Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, w jakim zakresie zjazdowa tematyka interesowała „Trybunę Ludu” – główny organ prasowy KC PZPR, jaki był medialny przekaz zjazdowych obrad Ligi, które z zagadnień były szczególnie eksponowane, jaki obraz organizacji wyłaniał się z prasowych relacji i trafiał do czytelników.
