Résumé :
AbstractLoss of phosphorus from agricultural land through water runoff causes serious detrimental effects on the environment and on water quality. Phosphorous runoff from excessive use of fertilizers can cause algal blooms to grow in nearby water systems, producing toxins that contaminate drinking water sources and recreational water. In this study, a risk analysis of the algal toxin micro-cystin-LR and the mitigation of phosphorus from agriculture runoff is discussed. A risk analysis was performed on the algal bloom toxin microcystin-LR considering the Lake Erie algal bloom event of 2011 as a case study. Toxicity risk analysis results show that relatively low concentrations of microcystin-LR compared to recent case studies pose an acute health risk to both children and adults, and a significant increase in the risk of developing cancer is suggested but subject to further study given the assumptions made. This study investigated the potential of using wollastonite to mitigate phosphorus pollution, considering thermodynamic conditions of a constructed wetland receiving influent water from agriculture runoff, by using geochemical modelling. Geochemical modelling results show that wollastonite can react with phosphorus and capture it in the stable mineral form of hydroxyapatite, offering a possible strategy for risk mitigation of phosphorous runoff. A removal efficiency of 77% of phosphorus using wollastonite is calculated with the help of geochemical modelling.

Résumé :
Today library users often have to cope with different search masks when looking for specific information in catalogues, databases and repositories. One way of making research simpler is to implement a tool based on search engine technology, which covers all integrated sources with only one query. The aim of this thesis is to describe the experiences of libraries in the German-speaking area, currently using Primo by Ex Libris. In detail, the hypotheses are that Primo not only provides better visibility of and access to library holdings, but also makes enquiries easier to handle for librarians. Subsequently, there ought to be changes in the administrative process of libraries, whereby synergy effects could be achieved when using Primo in a consortium. Best practice approaches for other institutions, planning to set up this search and discovery tool, are obtained by comparing information gathered from expert interviews. Therefore, librarians involved in the implementation projects in academic institutions are asked for their opinions. The central questions are whether the expectations of the software are fulfilled and which problems occur during the implementation phase. Compared to the hypotheses the findings are partly surprising, since librarians do not consider Primo as a better search interface for themselves, but see a service improvement for library users, who therefore have a single point of access. Moreover, the analysis highlights that the focus of library work has to change from doing research to manipulating data in order to make search and discovery more convenient for users.

Résumé :
This dissertation investigates card-image public access catalogues (CIPACs) – online library catalogues based on databases of digitized catalogue cards and more or less sophisticated mechanisms for browsing or searching. Solutions of this kind have been implemented by a number of libraries in various countries since the mid-1990s, mainly as inexpensive alternatives to a full retrospective conversion of their old catalogues. The general aim of the study is to build up an informed view of this area, by looking at the present spreading of CIPACs, their characteristics and navigational features, the problems and issues interconnected with their creation and implementation, and the awareness, behaviour and opinions of CIPAC users. In order to achieve these goals, several approaches were used. First, a comprehensive survey of existing CIPACs and their characteristics was undertaken; this also included the implementation and updating of an international CIPAC web-page. Second, the main issues in CIPAC creation and implementation were identified and discussed, based both on the relevant project literature and the answers of 23 libraries to a short unstructured questionnaire. Third, a webbased qualitative survey of 320 users of eleven CIPACs in four countries was conducted. The study shows that the CIPAC approach has to offer much to libraries that cannot afford to convert their large old catalogues as fast as they might wish. However, the absence of sophisticated search options, the problems that users often have with the interfaces offered for navigation, and the features of a past and mostly outdated generation of reference tools that these computerized card catalogues inherently carry suggest that they are at best acceptable as short or medium-term, but not as permanent alternatives to "real" OPACs.

Résumé :
This project focuses on the study of cataloging as a tool to promote research collections represented in the catalog. Moreover, it is argued that the catalog provides support to the activities of preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage. It started with a qualitative analysis of the bibliographic sources part of the heritage assets of the Cervantes Collection. Rules to be applied were evaluated and the technical process to follow when entering the sources into the database was defined, as well as the creation of an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). As a result, 172 bibliographic records were generated containing information on the different manifestations that comprise the work Don Quijote de La Mancha (Don Quixote of La Mancha) and thus showing the importance of this procedure to facilitate research and dissemination of the Cervantes Collection. An integrated library management system named PMB was used to create the OPAC. It concluded by highlighting the importance of the creation of a catalog that complies with quality standards to promote research on heritage collections, as well as the support the catalog offers to their preservation and dissemination activities.

Résumé :
Web 2.0, the social, interactive and user-oriented web, is an integral component of current web applications. In the context of Library 2.0-motivated service developments, some libraries already have implemented such features in their local online library catalogues. However, many library associations and library service centres that provide union catalogues seem to be reluctant to keep pace with these developments. This thesis gives an overview of existing union catalogues in the German-speaking language area that already use Web 2.0 features. Furthermore, it identifies opportunities and risks when implementing Web 2.0 concepts in a union catalogue based on a market-analysis and in-depth interviews with experts for library systems and union catalogues. The empirical study of this thesis also contains an evaluation of the existing union catalogue of the umbrella organisation of public libraries in Austria, called "Büchereiverband Österreichs" (BVÖ). The result of this thesis includes that providers of union catalogues are aware of the relevance of the new technologies as additional features to improve the usability of union catalogues and to enrich bibliographic data with supplementary content. Still, the implementation of web 2.0 services seems to be hesitant within the German-speaking countries. The main task of union catalogues is still to provide easy and fast access to bibliographic data but web 2.0 concepts will be an important add-on in the future.

Résumé :
The advent of "Web 2.0" signaled a shift in Internet usability which focuses primarily on the users and their needs. This also means a challenge for libraries. One area where change is essential is the area of the library catalogue or OPAC, the heart and soul of a library. Designers of OPACs have to face the fact that far more people are searching the internet than are using library catalogs and that the library's approach to user service and user interface is not competing successfully against services like Amazon or Google. If libraries want to avoid further marginalization, they need to analyse their concepts. The aim of this thesis is to describe the problems of traditional library online catalogues at universities and how the OPAC can become a more relevant and user centered system. First, a review of current literature is undertaken in order to investigate the issue of the "next generation catalog" and to discuss several solutions like catalog enrichment, Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records and the integration of Web 2.0 applications. Then some exemplary OPACs which implemented Web 2.0 applications are presented. Furthermore qualitative interviews are conducted with librarians who are in charge of an OPAC 2.0. The interviews aim at analysing the state-of-the-art of these OPAC 2.0 projects. The main outcome of this thesis is that "the" OPAC 2.0 does not exist and that each library has specific requirements concerning an online-catalog. The findings suggest that libraries need to evaluate the environment they are dealing with accurately, especially target groups. Due to the fact that there are many attributes for catalog 2.0, decision-makers in libraries should carefully consider which tools and applications are necessary and reasonable.

Résumé :
The Regensburger Verbundklassifikation (RVK) is an established classification scheme for academic libraries and includes index terms for finding classification marks of the RVK. The RVK index terms have been linked to the Integrated Authority File (GND) since 2016. As a result, new opportunities to use the index terms for library catalogue searches have opened up – especially within the context of “explorative searches” as an application possibility for further searches. As these opportunities are barely used yet, the present thesis examines if and to what extent index terms of the RVK are qualified for an integration into library catalogue search. In doing so the following aspects are addressed: To what extent can the index terms of the RVK be utilized for further catalogue searches? Are there parts of the RVK, certain types or the like, which are not or especially qualified for an integration? How to deal with classification marks with more than one index term? The results of the present thesis are based on a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of classification mark samples from selected sections of the RVK. Therefore, title data records, that hold index terms of classification marks as subject headings, are retrieved by use of search requests in the WinIBW. Besides an analysis of the hit rate, the quality of the achieved results is evaluated based on a specially developed scale. The scale shows the extent to which a retrieved title data record corresponds or fits to a classification mark of the RVK (“level of correspondency”). The examined classification marks and their index terms are pooled in three general categories: definitely qualified, definitely not qualified and a major part of cases, that can reasonably only be integrated in catalogue searches under wide preliminary work.

Résumé :
The present investigation is aimed at determining the causes of searches with zero results in the OPAC of the Sistema de Bibliotecas Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru during 2012 year. For this purpose, a log transaction analysis of the OPAC´s searches was done as a methodology. Three causes of searches with zero result were found: 1) Terms mismatched: words or phrases written correctly in search statements which do not match those used in the bibliographic description and subject terminology assigned to each bibliographic record. 2) Wrong writing in search statements due to typographical and spelling mistakes. 3) Wrong index selection: when a user selects a wrong index for his/her search statement. A more detailed analysis was done for each OPAC's index. Suggestions are offered regarding to reinforcement in OPAC searches training, improve search engine interface, and use of log transactions analisys of OPAC´s searches as a methodology to detect library materials demand not in its physical and virtual collections.

Résumé :
From the term Web 2.0 has generated a lot of documentation on the impact of web 2.0 tools in libraries, however this information is widely dispersed, coupled with this free software has begun to be better valued by the middle librarian, in part because of the high cost of commercial software, the current state of the global economy, budget cuts, etc.. by the above there is a need to have a guide who aids in the implementation of a library 2.0 using, in all possible cases, free software and / or free.

Résumé :
This thesis reports on the development of a system that enables users of an online public access library catalogue to save resources in a personal account and to attach their own keywords (called tags) to this ressources. This can facilitate organization and later retrieval as well as communication with other users. The principle is called social tagging and has so far been applied to various types of ressources such as internet-bookmarks, pictures, books as well as scientific publications. The theoretical basics of user-generated keywords will be presented with specific focus on their application in libraries. Based on the analysis of the specific situation of the library of the University of Hildesheim the requirements of the planed system will be specified and the system-design and the prototypical implementation will be presented. The system deployed and the resulting system of tags (folksonomy) will be evaluated to study the usefulness of such a system in the context of a local library and to explore potential future applications.
